Data are analysed using SmartPLS (v 3.3.3) to test the measurement and structural models.Results: The findings reveal that financial literacy significantly impacts the financial behaviour of individual investors. In addition, financial risk tolerance partially mediates the relationship between financial literacy and financial behaviour. Besides, the study found a significant moderating role of emotional intelligence in the direct relationship between financial literacy and financial risk tolerance and an indirect relationship between financial literacy and financial behaviour.Discussion: The study examined a hitherto unexplored relationship between financial literacy and financial behaviour, mediated by financial risk tolerance and moderated by emotional intelligence.Keywords: financial literacy, emotional intelligence, financial risk tolerance, financial behaviour

Purpose: The goal of this study was to develop and validate an online dynamic nomogram system for early differential diagnosis of influenza A and B., Methods: Patients with severe influenza A and B admitted to Henan Children's Hospital from January 2019 to January 2022 were used as the modeling group (n = 161), and patients admitted from January to September 2023 were used as the validation group (n = 52). Univariate logistic regression and multivariate logistic regression were used to identify the risk variables of severe influenza A and B in children in the modeling group. The selected variables were used to build the nomogram, and the C-index, decision curve analysis, calibration curves, and receiver operating characteristic curves were used to assess the differentiation, calibration of the models, and external validation of the above models with validation group data., Findings: Fever for >3 days, vomiting, lymphocyte count (LY), and duration from onset to hospitalization were independent factors for the identification of severe influenza A and B. We created a dynamic nomogram (https://ertong.shinyapps.io/influenza/) that can be accessed online. The C-index was 0.92. In the modeling group, the AUC of the prediction model was 0.92 (95% CI, 0.87-0.98), the calibration curve showed a good fit between the predicted probability and the actual probability, with high comparability, and the decision curve analysis showed that the nomogram model had significant clinical benefits. The application of this model in external verification predicts that the AUC of the verification group is 0.749 (95% CI, 0.61-0.88), and the validation results were in good agreement with reality., Implications: Fever for >3 days, vomiting, lymphocyte count, and duration from onset to hospitalization have an impact on the differentiation of severe influenza A from severe influenza B. Background: Enabling community-led health initiatives will contribute to reducing the burdens on the healthcare system. Implementing such initiatives successfully in high and upper-middle income Asian countries is poorly understood and documented. We undertook a Rapid Review, systematically synthesising the evidence to develop implementation guidelines to address this gap., Methods: Eligible studies focused on community movements or affiliated constructs in upper-middle and high-income Asian countries, conducted between 2014 and 2021. Studies were sought from either electronic databases - Cochrane and Campbell Collaboration, PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, SCOPUS, APA Psycinfo, Web of Science, Google Scholar - or recommendation from experts. Extraction was undertaken according to mid-level programme goals, termed Intermediate Results. These were conceptualized by a cross-disciplinary team and iteratively reworked as analysis progressed. Framework analysis was undertaken and structured according to the IRs. 28 studies (9 mixed methods, 9 quantitative, 7 qualitative and 3 case studies) were included and synthesised., Results: The MovEMENTs checklist and related strategies were elicited through the review. The six Intermediate Results include to: (1) Move the community to be recruited and retained (2) Engage capacity and build capability; (3) Maintain emotional resonance; (4) Embed participatory approaches; (5) Nurture network building and partnerships; (6) Team up to improve commissioning and funding structures. Sixteen strategies and related implementation guidelines underpinning the Intermediate Results are extracted from the evidence-base of included studies., Conclusion: The MovEMENTs for Health checklist is developed to serve as a guide for implementers and proposed to be adaptable to various contexts. Protein function prediction is crucial in several key areas such as bioinformatics and drug design. With the rapid progress of deep learning technology, applying protein language models has become a research focus. These models utilize the increasing amount of large-scale protein sequence data to deeply mine its intrinsic semantic information, which can effectively improve the accuracy of protein function prediction. This review comprehensively combines the current status of applying the latest protein language models in protein function prediction. It provides an exhaustive performance comparison with traditional prediction methods. Background: Sarcomatoid hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a rare histological subtype of HCC characterized by extremely poor prognosis; however, its molecular characterization has not been elucidated., Methods: In this study, we conducted an integrated multiomics study of whole-exome sequencing, RNA-seq, spatial transcriptome, and immunohistochemical analyses of 28 paired sarcomatoid tumor components and conventional HCC components from 10 patients with sarcomatoid HCC, in order to identify frequently altered genes, infer the tumor subclonal architectures, track the genomic evolution, and delineate the transcriptional characteristics of sarcomatoid HCCs., Results: Our results showed that the sarcomatoid HCCs had poor prognosis. The sarcomatoid tumor components and the conventional HCC components were derived from common ancestors, mostly accessing similar mutational processes. Clonal phylogenies demonstrated branched tumor evolution during sarcomatoid HCC development and progression. TP53 mutation commonly occurred at tumor initiation, whereas ARID2 mutation often occurred later. Transcriptome analyses revealed the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and hypoxic phenotype in sarcomatoid tumor components, which were confirmed by immunohistochemical staining. Moreover, we identified ARID2 mutations in 70% (7/10) of patients with sarcomatoid HCC but only 1-5% of patients with non-sarcomatoid HCC. Biofunctional investigations revealed that inactivating mutation of ARID2 contributes to HCC growth and metastasis and induces EMT in a hypoxic microenvironment., Conclusions: We offer a comprehensive description of the molecular basis for sarcomatoid HCC, and identify genomic alteration (ARID2 mutation) together with the tumor microenvironment (hypoxic microenvironment), that may contribute to the formation of the sarcomatoid tumor component through EMT, leading to sarcomatoid HCC development and progression.

As the application of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) continues to expand, its stability and safety issues are receiving more and more attention, especially the interference problem. Interference reduces the signal reception quality of ground terminals and may even lead to the paralysis of GNSS function in severe cases. In recent years, Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites have been highly emphasized for their unique advantages in GNSS interference detection, and related commercial and academic activities have increased rapidly. In this context, based on the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and radio-frequency interference (RFI) measurements data from COSMIC-2 satellites, this paper explores a method of predicting RFI measurements using SNR correlation variations in different GNSS signal channels for application to the detection and localization of civil terrestrial GNSS interference signals. Research shows that the SNR in different GNSS signal channels shows a correlated change under the influence of RFI. To this end, a CNN-BiLSTM-Attention model combining a convolutional neural network (CNN), bi-directional long and short-term memory network (BiLSTM), and attention mechanism is proposed in this paper, and the model takes the multi-channel SNR time series of the GNSS as the input and outputs the maximum measured value of RFI in the multi-channels. The experimental results show that compared with the traditional band-pass filtering inter-correlation method and other deep learning models, the model in this paper has a root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), and correlation coefficient (R 2 ) of 1.0185, 1.8567, and 0.9693, respectively, in RFI prediction, which demonstrates a higher RFI detection accuracy and a wide range of rough localization capabilities, showing significant competitiveness. Since the correlation changes in the SNR can be processed to decouple the signal strength, this model is also suitable for future GNSS-RO missions (such as COSMIC-1, CHAMP, GRACE, and Spire) for which no RFI measurements have yet been made.

Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) is the second most common primary hepatic malignancy after hepatocellular carcinoma, with poor prognosis and limited treatment options. The genomic features of ICC in Chinese patients remain largely unknown. In this study, we perform deep whole-exome sequencing of 204 Chinese primary ICCs and characterize genomic alterations and clonal evolution, and reveal their associations with patient outcomes. We identify six mutational signatures, including Signatures A and F, which are highly similar to previously described signatures linked to aristolochic acid and aflatoxin exposures, respectively. We also identify 13 significantly mutated genes in the ICC samples, including SAV1. We find that SAV1 was mutated in 2.9% (20/672) of 672 ICC samples. SAV1 mutation is associated with lower SAV1 protein levels, higher rates of tumor recurrence, and shorter overall patient survival. Biofunctional investigations reveal a tumor-suppressor role of SAV1: its inactivation suppresses Hippo signaling, leading to YAP activation, thereby promoting tumor growth and metastasis. Cellular skin substitutes such as epidermal constructs have been developed for various applications, including wound healing and skin regeneration. These cellular models are mostly derived from primary cells such as keratinocytes and fibroblasts in a two-dimensional (2D) state, and further development of three-dimensional (3D) cultured organoids is needed to provide insight into the in vivo epidermal phenotype and physiology. Here, we report the development of epidermal organoids (EpiOs) generated from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) as a novel epidermal construct and its application as a source of secreted biomolecules recovered by extracellular vesicles (EVs) that can be utilized for cell-free therapy of regenerative medicine. Differentiated iPSC-derived epidermal organoids (iEpiOs) are easily cultured and expanded through multiple organoid passages, while retaining molecular and functional features similar to in vivo epidermis. These mature iEpiOs contain epidermal stem cell populations and retain the ability to further differentiate into other skin compartment lineages, such as hair follicle stem cells. By closely recapitulating the epidermal structure, iEpiOs are expected to provide a more relevant microenvironment to influence cellular processes and therapeutic response. Indeed, iEpiOs can generate high-performance EVs containing high levels of the angiogenic growth factor VEGF and miRNAs predicted to regulate cellular processes such as proliferation, migration, differentiation, and angiogenesis. These EVs contribute to target cell proliferation, migration, and angiogenesis, providing a promising therapeutic tool for in vivo wound healing. Background: Emotion regulation deficits, particularly in cognitive reappraisal, are crucial in depression and anxiety. However, research on the neural mechanisms of implicit emotion regulation is lacking, and it remains unclear whether these mechanisms are shared or distinct between the two disorders., Methods: We investigated the neural mechanisms of implicit cognitive reappraisal in 28 individuals with major depressive disorder (MDD), 25 with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and 30 healthy controls (HC) using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). Participants completed an implicit cognitive reappraisal task and underwent neuropsychological and clinical assessments., Results: We found that MDD patients reported higher levels of rumination and lower utilization of cognitive reappraisal, while GAD patients reported reduced use of perspective-taking. Notably, both MDD and GAD patients exhibited decreased activation in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) compared to HC participants during implicit cognitive reappraisal. Specifically, inadequate OFC activation was observed in MDD patients, while GAD patients demonstrated OFC deactivation during the task. Furthermore, DLPFC activation showed a negative correlation with depression severity in MDD patients, while OFC activation was positively correlated with perspective-taking in GAD patients., Limitations: fNIRS has limited depth and spatial resolution., Conclusion: Our fNIRS study is the first to reveal shared and distinct neurobiological profiles of depression and anxiety in implicit emotion regulation. These findings underscore the significance of reduced DLPFC/OFC activation in emotion regulation impairment and highlight unique OFC activation patterns in these disorders. Maize ( Zea mays ) is one of the most cultivated plants in the world. Due to the large area, the scale of its production, and the demand to increase the yield, there is a need for new environmentally friendly fertilizers. One group of such candidates is bacteria-produced nodulation (or nod) factors. Limited research has explored the impact of nodulation, factors on maize within field conditions, with most studies restricted to greenhouse settings and early developmental stages. Additionally, there is a scarcity of investigations that elucidate the metabolic alterations in the maize stem due to nod-factor exposure. It was therefore the aim of this study. Maize stem's metabolites and fibers were analyzed with various imaging analytical techniques: matrix assisted laser desorption ionization-mass spectrometry imaging (MALDI-MSI), Raman spectroscopy, attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR FT-IR), and diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy. Moreover, the biochemical analyses were used to evaluate the proteins and soluble carbohydrates concentration and total phenolic content. These techniques were used to evaluate the influence of nod factor-based biofertilizer on the growth of a non-symbiotic plant, maize. The biofertilizer increased the grain yield and the stem mass. Moreover, the spectroscopic and biochemical investigation proved the appreciable biochemical changes in the stems of the maize in biofertilizer-treated plants. Noticeable changes were found in the spatial distribution and the increase in the concentration of flavonoids such as maysin, quercetin, and rutin. Moreover, the concentration of cell wall components (fibers) increased. Magnetic impurities in superconductors are of increasing interest due to emergent Yu-Shiba-Rusinov (YSR) states and Majorana zero modes for fault-tolerant quantum computation. However, a direct relationship between the YSR multiple states and magnetic anisotropy splitting of quantum impurity spins remains poorly characterized. By using scanning tunneling microscopy, we systematically resolve individual transition-metal (Fe, Cr, and Ni) impurities induced YSR multiplets as well as their Zeeman effects in the K 3 C 60 superconductor. The YSR multiplets show identical d orbital-like wave functions that are symmetry-mismatched to the threefold K 3 C 60 (1 1 1) host surface, breaking point-group symmetries of the spatial distribution of YSR bound states in real space. Remarkably, we identify an unprecedented fermion-parity-preserving quantum phase transition between ground states with opposite signs of the uniaxial magnetic anisotropy that can be manipulated by an external magnetic field. These findings can be readily understood in terms of anisotropy splitting of quantum impurity spins, and thus elucidate the intricate interplay between the magnetic anisotropy and YSR multiplets., (Copyright © 2024 Science China Press. The autonomic nervous system plays a crucial role in regulating bone metabolism, with sympathetic activation stimulating bone resorption and inhibiting bone formation. We found that fractures lead to increased sympathetic tone, enhanced osteoclast resorption, decreased osteoblast formation, and thus hastened systemic bone loss in ovariectomized (OVX) mice. However, the combined administration of parathyroid hormone (PTH) and the β-receptor blocker propranolol dramatically promoted systemic bone formation and osteoporotic fracture healing in OVX mice. The effect of this treatment is superior to that of treatment with PTH or propranolol alone. In vitro, the sympathetic neurotransmitter norepinephrine (NE) suppressed PTH-induced osteoblast differentiation and mineralization, which was rescued by propranolol. Moreover, NE decreased the PTH-induced expression of Runx2 but enhanced the expression of Rankl and the effect of PTH-stimulated osteoblasts on osteoclastic differentiation, whereas these effects were reversed by propranolol. Furthermore, PTH increased the expression of the circadian clock gene Bmal1, which was inhibited by NE-βAR signaling. Bmal1 knockdown blocked the rescue effect of propranolol on the NE-induced decrease in PTH-stimulated osteoblast differentiation. Taken together, these results suggest that propranolol enhances the anabolic effect of PTH in preventing systemic bone loss following osteoporotic fracture by blocking the negative effects of sympathetic signaling on PTH anabolism., (© 2024. Thioredoxin interacting protein (Txnip) is a stress-responsive factor regulating Trx1 for redox balance and involved in diverse cellular processes including proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, inflammation, and metabolism. However, the biological role of Txnip function in stem cell pluripotency has yet to be investigated. Here, we reveal the novel functions of mouse Txnip in cellular reprogramming and differentiation onset by involving in glucose-mediated histone acetylation and the regulation of Oct4, which is a fundamental component of the molecular circuitry underlying pluripotency. During reprogramming or PSC differentiation process, cellular metabolic and chromatin remodeling occur in order to change its cellular fate. Txnip knockout promotes induced pluripotency but hinders initial differentiation by activating pluripotency factors and promoting glycolysis. This alteration affects the intracellular levels of acetyl-coA, a final product of enhanced glycolysis, resulting in sustained histone acetylation on active PSC gene regions. Moreover, Txnip directly interacts with Oct4, thereby repressing its activity and consequently deregulating Oct4 target gene transcriptions. This study is the first to measure global burden of hip fracture in patients aged 55 years and older across 204 countries and territories from 1990 to 2019. Our study further proved that the global burden of hip fracture is still large. Hip fractures among males are perhaps underestimated, and older adults should be given more attention., Purpose: Hip fracture is a tremendous universal public health challenge, but no updated comprehensive and comparable assessment of hip fracture incidence and burden exists for most of the world in older adults., Methods: Using data from the Global Burden of Diseases (GBD) 2019, we estimated the number and rates of the incidence, prevalence, and years lived with disability (YLD) of hip fracture across 204 countries and territories in patients aged 55 years and older from 1990 to 2019., Results: In 2019, the incidence, prevalence, and YLDs rates of hip fracture in patients aged 55 years and older were 681.35 (95% UI 508.36-892.27) per 100000 population, 1191.39 (95% UI 1083.80-1301.52) per 100000 population, and 130.78 (95% UI 92.26-175.30) per 100000 population. During the three decades, the incidence among people aged below 60 years showed a downward trend, whereas it showed a rapid upward trend among older adults. All the numbers and rates of hip fractures among females were higher than those among males and increased with age, with the highest number and rate in the highest age group. Notably, the male to female ratio of the incidence for people aged over 55 years increased from 0.577 in 1990 to 0.612 in 2019. Falls were the leading cause among both sexes and in all age groups., Conclusions: The incidence and the number of hip fractures among patients aged 55 years and older increased over the past three decades, indicating that the global burden of hip fracture is still large. Objective: Primary blepharospasm (BSP) is a clinically heterogeneous disease that manifests not only as spasmodic closure of the eyelids but also sometimes with apraxia of eyelid opening (AEO). This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate differences in the neural mechanisms of isolated BSP and BSP-associated AEO subtypes, which may reveal the pathophysiology underlying different phenotypes., Methods: A total of 29 patients manifested as isolated BSP, 17 patients manifested as BSP associated with AEO, and 28 healthy controls underwent resting-state functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). We assessed functional connectivity (FC) between regions of interest (ROIs) in the fronto-parietal control network (PFCN) and sensorimotor network (SMN). We also examined the relationship between altered FC and behavioral data., Results: In the FPCN, ROI- analyses showed decreased FC between the left premotor cortex and supramarginal gyrus in the BSP with AEO group compared to the isolated BSP group. In the SMN, both subgroups showed hypoconnectivity of the left premotor cortex with the right primary motor cortex, primary sensory cortex, and somatosensory association cortex. This hypoconnectivity was positively correlated with the total number of botulinum toxin A treatments, which suggests that long-term botulinum toxin A treatment may modulate motor sequence planning and coordination., Conclusion: These findings showed different connectivity alterations in neural networks associated with motor and cognitive control among different behavioral phenotypes of BSP. Nontrivial electronic states are attracting intense attention in low-dimensional physics. Though chirality has been identified in charge states with a scalar order parameter, its intertwining with charge density waves (CDW), film thickness, and the impact on the electronic behaviors remain less well understood. Here, using scanning tunneling microscopy, we report a 2 × 2 chiral CDW as well as a strong suppression of the Te-5 p hole-band backscattering in monolayer 1 T -TiTe 2 . These exotic characters vanish in bilayer TiTe 2 in a non-CDW state. Theoretical calculations prove that chirality comes from a helical stacking of the triple- q CDW components and, therefore, can persist at the two-dimensional limit. Furthermore, the chirality renders the Te-5 p bands with an unconventional orbital texture that prohibits electron backscattering. Our study establishes TiTe 2 as a promising playground for manipulating the chiral ground states at the monolayer limit and provides a novel path to engineer electronic properties from an orbital degree.

Aging is an inevitable biological process, and longevity may be related to bone health. Maintaining strong bone health can extend one's lifespan, but the exact mechanism is unclear. Bone and extraosseous organs, including the heart and brain, have complex and precise communication mechanisms. In addition to its load bearing capacity, the skeletal system secretes cytokines, which play a role in bone regulation of extraosseous organs. FGF23, OCN, and LCN2 are three representative bone-derived cytokines involved in energy metabolism, endocrine homeostasis and systemic chronic inflammation levels. Today, advanced research methods provide new understandings of bone as a crucial endocrine organ. For example, gene editing technology enables bone-specific conditional gene knockout models, which allows the study of bone-derived cytokines to be more precise. We systematically evaluated the various effects of bone-derived cytokines on extraosseous organs and their possible antiaging mechanism. Targeting aging with the current knowledge of the healthy skeletal system is a potential therapeutic strategy. Lactoferrin is an interesting bioactive protein in milk and can interact with various metal ions of trace elements such as copper, iron, manganese, and others. In this study, a lactoferrin hydrolysate (LFH) was generated from commercial bovine lactoferrin by protease pepsin, fortified with Cu 2+ (or Mn 2+ ) at two levels of 0.64 and 1.28 (or 0.28 and 0.56) mg/g protein, respectively, and then measured for the resultant bioactivity changes in the well-differentiated human gastric cancer AGS cells. The assaying results indicated that the LFH and Cu/Mn-fortified products had long-term anti-proliferation on the cells, while the treated cells showed DNA fragmentation and increased apoptotic cell proportions. Regarding the control cells, the cells treated with the LFH and especially Cu/Mn-fortified LFH had remarkably up-regulated mRNA expression of caspase-3 and Bax by respective 1.21-3.23 and 2.23-2.83 folds, together with down-regulated mRNA expression Bcl-2 by 0.88-0.96 folds. Moreover, Western-blot assaying results also indicated that the cells exposed to the LFH and Cu/Mn-fortified LFH (especially Mn at higher level) for 24 h had an enhanced caspase-3 expression and increased ratio of Bax/Bcl-2. It can thus be concluded that the used Cu/Mn-addition to the LFH may lead to increased bioactivity in the AGS cells; to be more specific, the two metal ions at the used addition levels could endow LFH with a higher ability to cause cell apoptosis by activating caspase-3 and increasing the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio.

Background: Osteoporotic vertebral fractures cause pain and disability, which result in a heavy socioeconomic burden. However, the incidence and cost of vertebral fractures in China are unknown. We aimed to assess the incidence and cost of clinically recognized vertebral fractures among people aged 50 years and older in China from 2013 to 2017., Materials and Methods: This population-based cohort study was conducted by using Urban Employee Basic Medical Insurance (UEBMI) and Urban Resident Basic Medical Insurance (URBMI) data in China from 2013 to 2017, which covered more than 95% of the Chinese population in urban areas. Vertebral fractures were identified by the primary diagnosis (i.e. International Classification of Diseases code or text of diagnosis) in UEBMI and URBMI. The incidence and medical cost of these clinically recognized vertebral fractures in urban China were calculated., Results: A total of 271 981 vertebral fractures (186 428, 68.5% females and 85 553, 31.5% males) were identified, with a mean age of 70.26 years. The incidence of vertebral fractures among patients aged 50 years and over in China increased ~1.79-fold during the 5 years, from 85.21 per 100 000 person-years in 2013 to 152.13 per 100 000 person-years in 2017. Medical costs for vertebral fractures increased from US$92.74 million in 2013 to US$505.3 million in 2017. Background: Liver cancer seriously threatens human health. Natural killer (NK) cells are an important part of the innate immune system and have strong anti-tumor ability. Immunotherapy based on NK cells has become a hot topic in the treatment of liver cancer., Methods: In this study, we checked the serum DKK3 (sDKK3) and circulating CD56 bright NK cells using ELISA and flow cytometry, respectively, in the blood of liver cancer patients. The effect on recombinant human DKK3 (rhDKK3) on CD56 bright NK cells was analyzed in vitro., Results: We found low levels of sDKK3 in liver cancer patients and a negative correlation between sDKK3 and circulating CD56 bright NK cells. In addition, we found that DKK3 induced the differentiation and improved the cytotoxicity of CD56 bright NK cells for the first time. It could be used as an agonist for NK cell-based immunotherapy., Conclusions: Improving the clinical efficacy of NK cells through DKK3 will become a new strategy for cancer immunotherapy.

There has been a long-standing debate about the mechanism of the unusual superconductivity in alkali-intercalated fullerides. In this Letter, using high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, we systematically investigate the electronic structures of superconducting K_{3}C_{60} thin films. We observe a dispersive energy band crossing the Fermi level with the occupied bandwidth of about 130 meV. The measured band structure shows prominent quasiparticle kinks and a replica band involving the Jahn-Teller active phonon modes, which reflects strong electron-phonon coupling in the system. The electron-phonon coupling constant is estimated to be about 1.2, which dominates the quasiparticle mass renormalization. Moreover, we observe an isotropic nodeless superconducting gap beyond the mean-field estimation (2Δ/k_{B}T_{c}≈5). Both the large electron-phonon coupling constant and large reduced superconducting gap suggest a strong-coupling superconductivity in K_{3}C_{60}, while the electronic correlation effect is suggested by the observation of a waterfall-like band dispersion and the small bandwidth compared with the effective Coulomb interaction. Our results not only directly visualize the crucial band structure but also provide important insights into the mechanism of the unusual superconductivity of fulleride compounds.

Bovine lactoferrin (LF) per 1 g was reacted with 0.16, 0.32, and 0.64 mg CuCl 2 to reach 10%, 20%, and 40% copper-saturation, respectively, aiming to assess their anti-inflammatory activities to lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophages. The macrophages treated with CuCl 2 at 0.051 μg/mL dose did not have obvious change in cell viability, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release, and intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. However, LF and Cu-fortified LF products (10-80 μg/mL doses) mostly showed inhibitory effects on the stimulated macrophages dose-dependently. Moreover, Cu-fortified LF products of lower Cu-fortifying levels at lower doses exerted weaker inhibition on the stimulated macrophages than LF, leading to higher cell viability but decreased LDH release. Meanwhile, LF and Cu-fortified LF products at 10 and 20 μg/mL doses showed different activities to the stimulated cells, via partly decreasing or increasing the production of inflammatory mediators namely prostaglandin E 2 (PGE 2 ), nitric oxide, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), IL-1β, and ROS production, depending on the used Cu-fortifying and dose levels. Compared with LF, Cu-fortified LF product (Cu-fortifying level of 0.16 mg/g LF) at 10 μg/mL dose showed enhanced inhibition on the production of PGE 2 , ROS, IL-1β, and TNF-α, evidencing increased anti-inflammatory activity. However, the inhibition of Cu-fortified LF product (Cu-fortifying level of 0.32 mg/g LF) at 20 μg/mL dose on the production of these inflammatory mediators was mostly reduced. Charge modulations have been widely observed in cuprates, suggesting their centrality for understanding the high-T c superconductivity in these materials. However, the dimensionality of these modulations remains controversial, including whether their wavevector is unidirectional or bidirectional, and also whether they extend seamlessly from the surface of the material into the bulk. Material disorder presents severe challenges to understanding the charge modulations through bulk scattering techniques. We use a local technique, scanning tunneling microscopy, to image the static charge modulations on Bi 2-z Pb z Sr 2-y La y CuO 6+x . The ratio of the phase correlation length ξ CDW to the orientation correlation length ξ orient points to unidirectional charge modulations. By computing new critical exponents at free surfaces including that of the pair connectivity correlation function, we show that these locally 1D charge modulations are actually a bulk effect resulting from classical 3D criticality of the random field Ising model throughout the entire superconducting doping range., (© 2023. Background: Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a genetically heterogeneous cardiac disorder characterized by left ventricular dilation and contractile dysfunction. The substantial genetic heterogeneity evident in patients with DCM contributes to variable disease severity and complicates overall prognosis, which can be very poor., Aim: To identify pathogenic genes in DCM through pedigree analysis., Methods: Our research team identified a patient with DCM in the clinic. Through investigation, we found that the family of this patient has a typical DCM pedigree. High-throughput sequencing technology, next-generation sequencing, was used to sequence the whole exomes of seven samples in the pedigree., Results: A novel and potentially pathogenic gene mutation-ANK2p.F3067L-was discovered. The mutation was completely consistent with the clinical information for this DCM pedigree. Sanger sequencing was used to further verify the locus of the mutation in pedigree samples. Different ethnic groups have different incidence rate of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In addition to lifestyle and environmental factors, genetic susceptibility is also an important reason. In this study, we screened the immune related genes and stromal related genes in White and Asian liver cancer patients cohort of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) the using ESTIMATE algorithm. Hub genes that significantly associated with overall survival (OS) were selected from White and Asian liver cancer patients, respectively. In addition, we validated the functions of two hub genes, IL-18RAP and GPM6A, in vivo and in vitro . We confirmed different races have different tumor immune microenvironments. Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are a subset of cancer cells with stem cell characteristics. The discovery of CSCs has opened a new era for cancer research. CSCs not only play a critical role in tumorigenesis, but also are responsible for the failure of cancer treatments. Here, we performed weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) to identify key stemness genes and prognostic signatures using the data of an Asian liver cancer patient cohort and a White liver cancer patient cohort in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. To compare the difference in tumorigenesis between the Asian patients and the White patients, the prognostic value of the key genes from the Asian patients was evaluated in the White patient cohort and vice versa. We found that some key genes could predict the survival of the patients regardless of race. In addition, the key genes, NUCB2 and KLF4A, were selected from Asian patients and White patients, respectively, for further experimental validation. Knocking down NUCB2 could inhibit the activity of the AKT/mTOR signaling pathway and reverse the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in liver cancer cells. We also confirmed that the knockdown of KLF4A suppressed ABCG2 activity and reduced the side population (SP) in liver cancer cells for the first time. Our results suggest that the stemness index is a useful method to identify key genes in tumorigenesis. Extreme fast charging (XFC) of high-energy Li-ion batteries is a key enabler of electrified transportation. While previous studies mainly focused on improving Li ion mass transport in electrodes and electrolytes, the limitations of charge transfer across electrode-electrolyte interfaces remain underexplored. Herein we unravel how charge transfer kinetics dictates the fast rechargeability of Li-ion cells. Li ion transfer across the cathode-electrolyte interface is found to be rate-limiting during XFC, but the charge transfer energy barrier at both the cathode and anode have to be reduced simultaneously to prevent Li plating, which is achieved through electrolyte engineering. By unlocking charge transfer limitations, 184 Wh kg -1 pouch cells demonstrate stable XFC (10-min charge to 80 %) which is otherwise unachievable, and the lifetime of 245 Wh kg -1 21700 cells is quintupled during fast charging (25-min charge to 80 %)., (© 2022 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)

The penis is a vital organ of perception that transmits perceived signals to ejaculation-related centers. The penis consists of the glans penis and penile shaft, which differ considerably in both histology and innervation. This paper aims to investigate whether the glans penis or the penile shaft is the main source of sensory signals from the penis and whether penile hypersensitivity affects the whole organ or only part of it. The thresholds, latencies, and amplitudes of somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEPs) were recorded in 290 individuals with primary premature ejaculation using the glans penis and penile shaft as the sensory areas. The thresholds, latencies, and amplitudes of SSEPs from the glans penis and penile shaft in patients were significantly different (all P < 0.0001). The latency of the glans penis or penile shaft was shorter than average (indicating hypersensitivity) in 141 (48.6%) cases, of which 50 (35.5%) cases were sensitive in both the glans penis and penile shaft, 14 (9.9%) cases were sensitive in the glans penis only, and 77 (54.6%) cases were sensitive in the penile shaft only (P < 0.0001). There are statistical differences in the signals perceived through the glans penis and the penile shaft. Penile hypersensitivity does not necessarily mean that the whole penis is hypersensitive. We classify penile hypersensitivity into three categories, namely, glans penis, penile shaft, and whole-penis hypersensitivity, and we propose the new concept of penile hypersensitive zone., Competing Interests: None

Most patients with liver cancer were found late and lost the chance of surgery. Liquid biopsy can monitor the risk of tumor recurrence and metastasis, quickly evaluate the curative effect of tumor treatment, and is conducive to early screening and auxiliary diagnosis of high-risk groups. Amino acid (AA) profiling has been used to the diagnosis and the prognosis for cancers. However, little was known about the profiles of AA of liver cancer. In this study, we used tRNA in Cancer database to analyze the AA levels in liver cancer tissues. Blood samples of patients with liver cancer were collected and analyzed using the automatic AA analyzer. We found that valine, isoleucine, and leucine were decreased significantly both in the plasma and the tumor tissues of patients with liver cancer. However, upregulation of methionine was observed in tissues and plasma of patients with liver cancer. Interestingly, tyrosine, and phenylalanine were decreased in tumor tissue but increased in the plasma of patients with liver cancer. This is the first report provided an overview of AA profile in both plasma and tissue for patients with liver cancer. Background: The prevalence of essential hypertension increases consistently among middle-aged and older adults in China. Aims of this study are to explore the impact of Tai Chi and square dance, which are popular in China, on antihypertensive effects and cardiovascular disease risk factors in patients with essential hypertension., Methods: Patients with essential hypertension were randomly assigned to either a Tai Chi group, a square dance group or a control group. Blood pressure, cardiorespiratory fitness, and cardiovascular disease risk factors were measured at baseline and at the end of the 12-week intervention. The duration and frequency of both intervention exercises were 60 minutes per session, and 5 sessions per week., Results: A total of 144 participants (59.89±6.85 years, 34.72% male) completed the study. The repeated-measures analysis of variance demonstrated a significant effect of time on BMI, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and cardiorespiratory fitness in patients with essential hypertension (P<0.05), whereas no significant effect was observed on waist-to-hip ratio and body fat percentage (P>0.05). Post hoc analyses showed that only intervention groups had significant differences in blood pressure and cardiorespiratory fitness compared to the control group, while Tai Chi had greater effect sizes than square dance., Conclusions: Both Tai Chi and square dance can promote cardiorespiratory fitness and reduce BMI and blood pressure among patients with essential hypertension, whereas there was no significant difference between the two exercises. However, both Tai Chi and square dance were ineffective in reducing some of the cardiovascular disease risk factors.

Background and Aims: Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) is aggressive and has high rates of relapse, conferring poor long-term survival after curative resection. Little is known about the genomic evolution that occurs during ICC relapse., Approach and Results: We conducted whole-exome sequencing of 30 paired primary and relapsed tumors from 10 patients with ICC who received curative resection. We sought to identify frequently altered genes, infer tumor subclonal architectures, and track genomic evolution from primary to relapsed tumors. We examined functional effects and the mechanism of action of SLIT2, a gene specifically mutated in relapsed tumors, on tumor growth and metastasis and the tumor microenvironment. Our results indicated that relapsed ICCs were genetically derived from intrahepatic dissemination of primary tumors. However, they acquired additional mutations while maintaining most drivers, such as TP53 and IDH1. Multiregion sequencing suggested polyclonal seeding of ICC dissemination. Four of 10 relapsed ICCs acquired SLIT2 mutations that were not present in the corresponding primary tumors. Validation in an expanded sample revealed SLIT2 mutations in 2.3% (1/44) of primary ICCs and 29.5% (13/44) of relapsed ICCs. Biofunctional investigations revealed that inactivating mutation of SLIT2 resulted in activation of PI3K-Akt signaling in ICC cells, directly enhanced neutrophil chemotaxis, mediated tumor-associated neutrophil infiltration, and contributed to ICC growth and metastasis., Conclusions: We characterized genomic evolution during ICC relapse and identified SLIT2 as a driver of tumor dissemination and tumor-associated neutrophil infiltration., (© 2021 American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.)

Interface phonon modes that are generated by several atomic layers at the heterointerface play a major role in the interface thermal conductance for nanoscale high-power devices such as nitride-based high-electron-mobility transistors and light-emitting diodes. Here we measure the local phonon spectra across AlN/Si and AlN/Al interfaces using atomically resolved vibrational electron energy-loss spectroscopy in a scanning transmission electron microscope. At the AlN/Si interface, we observe various interface phonon modes, of which the extended and localized modes act as bridges to connect the bulk AlN modes and bulk Si modes and are expected to boost the phonon transport, thus substantially contributing to interface thermal conductance. In comparison, no such phonon bridge is observed at the AlN/Al interface, for which partially extended modes dominate the interface thermal conductivity. We report a unique phenomenon in which liquid metal droplets (LMDs) under a pure ac electric field pump fluid. Unlike the directional pumping that occurs upon reversing the electric field polarity under a dc signal, this phenomenon allows the direction of fluid motion to be switched by simply shifting the position of the LMD within the cylindrical chamber. The physical mechanism behind this phenomenon has been termed Marangoni flow, caused by nonlinear electrocapillary stress. Under the influence of a localized, asymmetric ac electric field, the polarizable surface of the position-offset LMD produces a net time-averaged interfacial tension gradient that scales with twice the field strength, and thus pumps fluid unidirectionally. However, the traditional linear RC circuit polarization model of the LMD/electrolyte interface fails to capture the correct pump-flow direction when the thickness of the LMD oxide skin is non-negligible compared to the Debye length. Therefore, we developed a physical description by treating the oxide layer as a distributed capacitance with variable thickness and connected with the electric double layer. The flow profile is visualized via microparticle imaging velocimetry, and excellent consistency is found with simulation results obtained from the proposed nonlinear model. Furthermore, we investigate the effects of relevant parameters on fluid pumping and discuss a special phenomenon that does not exist in dc control systems. To our knowledge, no previous work addresses LMDs in this manner and uses a zero-mean ac electric field to achieve stable, adjustable directional pumping of a low-conductivity solution.

Patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) have poor long-term survival following curative resection because of the high rate of tumor early recurrence. Little is known about the trajectory of genomic evolution from primary to early-recurrent HCC. In this study, we performed whole-genome sequencing (WGS) on 40 pairs of primary and early-recurrent hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related HCC tumors from patients who received curative resection, and from four patients whose primary and recurrent tumor were extensively sampled. We identified two recurrence patterns: de novo recurrence (18/40), which developed genetically independently of the primary tumor and carried different HCC drivers, and ancestral recurrence (22/40), which was clonally related to the primary tumor and progressed more rapidly than de novo recurrence. We found that the recurrence location was predictive of the recurrence pattern: distant recurrence tended to display the de novo pattern, whereas local recurrence tended to display the ancestral pattern. We then uncovered the evolutionary trajectories based on the subclonal architecture, driver-gene mutations, and mutational processes observed in the primary and recurrent tumors. Multi-region WGS demonstrated spatiotemporal heterogeneity and polyclonal, monophyletic dissemination in HCC ancestral recurrence. In addition, we identified recurrence-specific mutations and copy-number gains in BCL9, leading to WNT/β-catenin signaling activation and an immune-excluded tumor microenvironment, which suggests that BCL9 might serve as a new therapeutic target for recurrent HCC. Collectively, our results allow us to view with unprecedented clarity the genomic evolution during HBV-related HCC early recurrence, providing an important molecular foundation for enhanced understanding of HCC with implications for personalized therapy to improve patient survival., (© 2021. A charge density wave (CDW) is a collective quantum phenomenon in metals and features a wavelike modulation of the conduction electron density. A microscopic understanding and experimental control of this many-body electronic state in atomically thin materials remain hot topics in materials physics. By means of material engineering, we realized a dimensionality and Zr intercalation induced semiconductor-metal phase transition in 1 T -ZrX 2 (X = Se, Te) ultrathin films, accompanied by a commensurate 2 × 2 CDW order. Furthermore, we observed a CDW energy gap of up to 22 meV around the Fermi level. Fourier-transformed scanning tunneling microscopy and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy reveal that 1 T -ZrX 2 films exhibit the simplest Fermi surface among the known CDW materials in TMDCs, consisting only of a Zr 4d derived elliptical electron conduction band at the corners of the Brillouin zone.

Background: Non-specific low back pain (NS-LBP) is a serious public health problem. Tai Chi is promising in reducing the risk of falls and alleviating symptoms in this population., Objective: To investigate the effect of Tai Chi on gait and dynamic balance in elderly women with NS-LBP., Methods: 20 women (age > 65 yr.) with NS-LBP were randomly assigned to a Tai Chi group (n= 10) or a control group (n= 10). The Tai Chi group practiced Tai Chi exercise 3 times a week for 6 weeks. Each session lasted 60 minutes. Pain, spatiotemporal gait features and dynamic balancing capacity were assessed at 0 and 6 weeks., Results: Compared to the control group at 6 weeks, the Tai Chi group had a significant decrease in VAS (p= 0.027) and stride width (p= 0.019), significant improvement in gait velocity, stride length (p< 0.001). Regarding dynamic balance capacity, the Tai Chi group had significant improvements in anterior (Left: p= 0.001; Right: p= 0.038), postero-lateral (Left: p< 0.001; Right: p= 0.038), and postero-medial (Left: p= 0.015; Right: p= 0.018)., Conclusion: 6-week Tai Chi can relieve pain and improve gait and dynamic balance in elderly women with NS-LBP, which suggests Tai Chi could be a promising rehabilitation intervention to reduce the risk of falls in this population.

Background: Reaching optimal vaccination rates is an essential public health strategy to control the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. This study aimed to simulate the optimal vaccination strategy to control the disease by developing an age-specific model based on the current transmission patterns of COVID-19 in Wuhan City, China., Methods: We collected two indicators of COVID-19, including illness onset data and age of confirmed case in Wuhan City, from December 2, 2019, to March 16, 2020. The reported cases were divided into four age groups: group 1, ≤ 14 years old; group 2, 15 to 44 years old; group 3, 44 to 64 years old; and group 4, ≥ 65 years old. An age-specific susceptible-exposed-symptomatic-asymptomatic-recovered/removed model was developed to estimate the transmissibility and simulate the optimal vaccination strategy. The effective reproduction number (R eff ) was used to estimate the transmission interaction in different age groups., Results: A total of 47 722 new cases were reported in Wuhan City from December 2, 2019, to March 16, 2020. Before the travel ban of Wuhan City, the highest transmissibility was observed among age group 2 (R eff  = 4.28), followed by group 2 to 3 (R eff  = 2.61), and group 2 to 4 (R eff  = 1.69). China should vaccinate at least 85% of the total population to interrupt transmission. The priority for controlling transmission should be to vaccinate 5% to 8% of individuals in age group 2 per day (ultimately vaccinated 90% of age group 2), followed by 10% of age group 3 per day (ultimately vaccinated 90% age group 3). However, the optimal vaccination strategy for reducing the disease severity identified individuals ≥ 65 years old as a priority group, followed by those 45-64 years old., Conclusions: Approximately 85% of the total population (nearly 1.2 billion people) should be vaccinated to build an immune barrier in China to safely consider removing border restrictions. The microscopic understanding of high-temperature superconductivity in cuprates has been hindered by the apparent complexity of crystal structures in these materials. We used scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy to study the electron-doped copper oxide compound Sr 1- x Nd x CuO 2 , which has only bare cations separating the CuO 2  planes and thus the simplest infinite-layer structure of all cuprate superconductors. Tunneling conductance spectra of the major CuO 2 planes in the superconducting state revealed direct evidence for a nodeless pairing gap, regardless of variation of its magnitude with the local doping of trivalent neodymium. Furthermore, three distinct bosonic modes are observed as multiple peak-dip-hump features outside the superconducting gaps and their respective energies depend little on the spatially varying gaps. As well as the bosonic modes, with energies identical to those of the external, bending and stretching phonons of copper oxides, our findings reveal the origin of the bosonic modes in lattice vibrations rather than spin excitations., (© The Author(s) 2021. The aim is to study the immune function effect of two polysaccharides extracted from traditional Chinese herbs on rats. Ultrasonic-assisted extraction was used to extract the polysaccharide from traditional Chinese medicines. MTT assay was used to determine the effects of two polysaccharides on the conversion of pig peripheral T lymphocytes. For this, 24 Sprague-Dawley rats were selected for the clinical trial and divided into groups B (blank), CK (cyclophosphamide inhibitory control), AP (angelica polysaccharide), and RIP (radix isatidis polysaccharide). Except for group B, other groups can induce the immunodeficiency by using cyclophosphamide. Rats of the AP and RIP groups were given gavage of 1 mL of AP and RIP. The blood was sampled from the eyeball on days 0, 7, 14, 21, 28, and 35, respectively, to determine immune cells, IgG and IgM of immunoglobulin, body weight, and spleen index. Results: The average content of AP and RIP was 51.27 and 14.8%, and the extraction rate was 75.23 and 60.94%. The maximum stimulation index was 1.407 when the concentration of AP was 8,000 μg mL -1 and 1.5 when the concentration of RIP was 125 μg mL -1 . Both kinds of polysaccharides can alleviate the decline of white blood cells, lymphocytes, monocytes, neutrophils, and serum IgG and IgM caused by cyclophosphamide. The two polysaccharides can regulate the rapid recovery of weight in immunosuppressed rats and increase the spleen index of immunosuppressed SD rats. In this study, the novel application of ATR-FTIR spectroscopy and macro ATR-FTIR spectroscopic imaging overcame an analytical challenge in conservation science: the time-resolved, chemical, and spatial investigation of the reaction of inorganic treatments for stone conservation (ammonium oxalate, AmOx; ammonium phosphate, DAP) occurring in water-based solutions. The aim was to (1) assess the composition and localization of reaction products and their phase variation during the reaction in real time and directly in an aqueous environment and (2) investigate the reaction of AmOx and DAP with calcite and the transformations induced to the substrate with a time-resolved approach. The new analytical results showed that for both treatments, the formation of new crystalline phases initiated at the early stages of the reaction. Their composition changed during the treatment and led to more stable phases. The reactivity of the stone substrate to the treatments varied as a function of the stone material features, such as the specific surface area. A clear influence of post-treatment rinsing on the final composition of reaction phases was observed. Above all, our research demonstrates the actual feasibility, practicality, and high potential of an advanced ATR-FTIR spectroscopic approach to investigate the behavior of conservation treatments and provided new analytical tools to address the choices of conservation in pilot worksites. Lastly, this study opens novel analytical perspectives based on the new possible applications of ATR-FTIR spectroscopic imaging in the field of conservation science, materials science, and analytical chemistry.

Efficacious and accessible sources of natural killer (NK) cells would widen their use as immunotherapeutics, particularly for solid cancers. Here, we show that human somatic cells can be directly reprogrammed into NK cells with a CD56 bright CD16 bright phenotype using pluripotency transcription factors and an optimized reprogramming medium. The directly reprogrammed NK cells have strong innate-adaptive immunomodulatory activity and are highly potent against a wide range of cancer cells, including difficult-to-treat solid cancers and cancer stem cells. Both directly reprogrammed NK cells bearing a cancer-specific chimeric antigen receptor and reprogrammed NK cells in combination with antibodies competent for antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity led to selective anticancer effects with augmented potency. The direct reprogramming of human somatic cells into NK cells is amenable to the production of autologous and allogeneic NK cells, and will facilitate the design and testing of cancer immunotherapies and combination therapies., (© 2021. The two key problems for the industrialization of Li-S batteries are the dendrite growth of lithium anode and the shuttle effect of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs). Herein, we report the Janus separator prepared by coating anionic Bio-MOF-100 and its derived single-atom zinc catalyst on each side of the Celgard separator. The anionic metal-organic framework (MOF) coating induces the uniform and rapid deposition of lithium ions, while its derived single-atom zinc catalyzes the rapid transformation of LiPSs, thus inhibiting the lithium dendrite and shuttle effect simultaneously. Consequently, compared with other reported Li-S batteries assembled with single-atomic catalysts as separator coatings, our SAZ-AF Janus separator showed stable cyclic performance (0.05% capacity decay rate at 2 C with 1000 cycles), outstanding performance in protecting lithium anode (steady cycle 2800 h at 10 mAh cm -2 ), and equally excellent cycling performance in Li-SeS 2 or Li-Se batteries. Our work provides an effective separator coating design to inhibit shuttle effect and lithium dendrite.

Alternating hemiplegia of childhood is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder. Most cases are reported as sporadic disorder due to de novo variants, and few with family members involved. Two boys were hospitalized due to epileptic seizures occurred initially at age of six to seven months. During the course of the disease, there were repeated episodes of paroxysmal weakness or paralysis affecting one side of the body. Genetic testing showed that both patients carried heterozygous missense mutations in the ATP1A3 gene (OMIM: 614820): c.3025 (exon 22) A>G (p.K1009E) and c.2443 (exon 18) G>A (p.E815K). Flunarizine can significantly improve the paroxysmal motor symptoms of pediatric patients with alternating hemiplegia.
