We present the first global geospace simulation to reproduce auroral giant undulations (GUs). To identify their magnetospheric drivers, we employ the MAGE (Multiscale Atmosphere‐Geospace Environment) model in a case study of a geomagnetic storm for which there were spacecraft‐ and ground‐based observations of GUs. The model reproduces the spatial and temporal scales of the GUs as well as the presence of duskside subauroral polarization streams (SAPS) and plasmapause undulations. Based on our modeling, we are able to identify the magnetospheric drivers of GUs as mesoscale ring current injections which, after drifting westward, create inverted regions of flux‐tube entropy (FTE) and subsequent interchange instability. Outward‐protruding interchange fingers disrupt shielding of the inner magnetosphere, creating longitudinally localized ripples in magnetospheric convection equatorward of the magnetospheric instability, which structure the plasmapause and duskside diffuse precipitation. While not causal, SAPS and plasmapause undulations are a consequence of the unstable magnetospheric configuration. Plain Language Summary: The visually dazzling display of the aurora during active periods is caused primarily by the precipitation of energetic electrons from the magnetosphere into the ionosphere. The auroral oval plays host to a variety of morphological features, or auroral forms, that are a reflection of magnetospheric processes and therefore a powerful tool for understanding the cross‐scale processes that bind together different geospace domains. Unlocking that power, however, requires an understanding of how magnetospheric processes are reflected in the aurora. Despite decades of study, that understanding has remained elusive, primarily due to limited in situ measurements and uncertainty in the magnetic mapping connecting them to the ionosphere. Only recently have new global geospace models emerged that can provide this understanding. In this letter we identify the magnetospheric driver of auroral giant undulations (GUs), wave‐like trains of undulations that form on the equatorward edge of the diffuse aurora with typical spatial scales of 100 km. We show that GUs are the consequence of a "buoyancy imbalance" formed during the buildup of the ring current and the subsequent disruption of the ionospheric current systems that typically shield the inner magnetosphere. Introduction: The Kelvin-Helmholtz Instability (KHI) is an interface instability that develops between two fluids or plasmas flowing with a common shear layer. KHI occurs in astrophysical jets, solar atmosphere, solar flows, cometary tails, planetary magnetospheres. Two applications of interest, encompassing both space and fusion applications, drive this study: KHI formation at the outer flanks of the Earth's magnetosphere and KHI growth from non-uniform laser heating in magnetized direct-drive implosion experiments. Here, we study 2D KHI with or without a magnetic field parallel to the flow. We use both the GAMERA code, which solves the compressible Euler equations, and the STRATOSPEC code, which solves the Navier-Stokes equations under the Boussinesq approximation, coupled with the magnetic field dynamics. GAMERA is a global three-dimensional MHD code with high-order reconstruction in arbitrary nonorthogonal curvilinear coordinates, which is developed for a large range of astrophysical applications. STRATOSPEC is a three-dimensional pseudo- spectral code with an accuracy of infinite order (no numerical diffusion). Magnetized KHI is a canonical case for benchmarking hydrocode simulations with extended MHD options. Methods: An objective is to assess whether or not, and under which conditions, the incompressibility hypothesis allows to describe a dynamic compressible system. For comparing both codes, we reach the inviscid incompressible regime, by decreasing the Mach number in GAMERA, and viscosity and diffusion in STRATOSPEC. Here, we specifically investigate both single-mode and multi-mode initial perturbations, either with or without magnetic field parallel to the flow. The method relies on comparisons of the density fields, 1D profiles of physical quantities averaged along the flow direction, and scale-by-scale spectral densities. We also address the triggering, formation and damping of filamentary structures under varying Mach number or Atwood number, with or without a parallel magnetic field. Results: Comparisons show very satisfactory results between the two codes. The vortices dynamics is well reproduced, along with the breaking or damping of small-scale structures. We end with the extraction of growth rates of magnetized KHI from the compressible regime to the incompressible limit in the linear regime assessing the effects of compressibility under increasing magnetic field. Salinity is a major problem in the agricultural sector, as it turns productive agronomical land to become unproductive. Therefore, Plant-growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), that live in the plant root zone named the rhizosphere, is one of the prominent solutions to overcome this problem in an eco-friendly manner as Rhizobacteria responds to osmotic stress and support plant development. Thus, the present study was aimed to characterize various traits of the PGPR strains isolated from saline soils of Kachchh. The characterization of the traits in the presence and absence of sodium chloride was assessed including IAA production (76.97±1.68 mg/l), Ammonia production (38.59±0.19 mg/l), Siderophore production (49.21±1.83%), Phosphate solubilization (4897.73±25.53 mg/l). When assessed for the salt tolerance of the strains in the presence of NaCl between 20-50 gm/L, the strain D6 exhibited a better growth even at 5% NaCl concentration (2.047OD). Further, the effect of PGPR on the growth of V. radiata was 100% in all the experimental setup, whereas in case of B. juncea, the highest germination of 96.67% was observed only in T2 and T1+T2+T3. Further, the molecular sequencing of the strains revealed the identification of the strains as Klebsiella quasipneumoniae, Bacillus paralicheniformis and Klebsiella pneumoniae. During geomagnetic storms relativistic outer radiation belt electron flux exhibits large variations on rapid time scales of minutes to days. Many competing acceleration and loss processes contribute to the dynamic variability of the radiation belts; however, distinguishing the relative contribution of each mechanism remains a major challenge as they often occur simultaneously and over a wide range of spatiotemporal scales. In this study, we develop a new comprehensive model for storm-time radiation belt dynamics by incorporating electron wave-particle interactions with parallel propagating whistler mode waves into our global test-particle model of the outer belt. Electron trajectories are evolved through the electromagnetic fields generated from the Multiscale Atmosphere-Geospace Environment (MAGE) global geospace model. Pitch angle scattering and energization of the test particles are derived from analytical expressions for quasi-linear diffusion coefficients that depend directly on the magnetic field and density from the magnetosphere simulation. Using a study of the 17 March 2013 geomagnetic storm, we demonstrate that resonance with lower band chorus waves can produce rapid relativistic flux enhancements during the main phase of the storm. While electron loss from the outer radiation belt is dominated by loss through the magnetopause, wave-particle interactions drive significant atmospheric precipitation. We also show that the storm-time magnetic field and cold plasma density evolution produces strong, local variations of the magnitude and energy of the wave-particle interactions and is critical to fully capturing the dynamic variability of the radiation belts caused by wave-particle interactions. A characteristic feature of the main phase of geomagnetic storms is the dawn‐dusk asymmetric depression of low‐ and mid‐latitude ground magnetic fields, with largest depression in the dusk sector. Recent work has shown, using data taken from hundreds of storms, that this dawn‐dusk asymmetry is strongly correlated with enhancements of the dawnside westward electrojet and this has been interpreted as a "dawnside current wedge" (DCW). Its ubiquity suggests it is an important aspect of stormtime magnetosphere‐ionosphere (MI) coupling. In this work we simulate a moderate geomagnetic storm to investigate the mechanisms that give rise to the formation of the DCW. Using synthetic SuperMAG indices we show that the model reproduces the observed phenomenology of the DCW, namely the correlation between asymmetry in the low‐latitude ground perturbation and the dawnside high‐latitude ground perturbation. We further show that these periods are characterized by the penetration of mesoscale bursty bulk flows (BBFs) into the dawnside inner magnetosphere. In the context of this event we find that the development of the asymmetric ring current, which inflates the dusk‐side magnetotail, leads to asymmetric reconnection and dawnward‐biased flow bursts. This results in an eastward expansion and multiscale enhancement of the dawnside electrojet. The electrojet enhancement extends across the dawn quadrant with localized enhancements associated with the wedgelet current systems of the penetrating BBFs. Finally, we connect this work with recent studies that have shown rapid, localized ground variability on the dawnside which can lead to hazardous geomagnetically induced currents. Plain Language Summary: During geomagnetic storms, electric currents in space can have a dramatic effect on the magnetic field on the ground, causing so‐called geomagnetic disturbances (GMDs). Storm‐time GMDs exhibit a lopsided asymmetry: dusk‐biased near the equator and dawn‐biased at high latitudes where aurora usually occur. This asymmetry has been interpreted as a giant wedge‐like current system, a dawnside current wedge (DCW). Using a high‐resolution supercomputer model, we successfully reproduced the DCW and showed that it occurred during a period of intense, localized flow bursts, akin to bubbles, on the nightside of near‐Earth space. The bubbles' buoyancy propels them from the nightside inwards toward dawn, driving intense currents into the Earth's atmosphere. Our simulations suggest that the causal agent of these dawnside bubbles is magnetic reconnection, typically symmetric but skewed dawnward due to asymmetry in the ring current, a crescent‐shaped population of energetic ions in space which intensifies during geomagnetic storms. Understanding the cause of stormtime GMD asymmetry is not only important to characterize how electric currents bind the magnetosphere and upper atmosphere, but also to mitigate space weather hazards, as intense GMDs can disrupt and damage power systems on Earth.
