The Bransfield Basin is a narrow and elongated active rift basin located between the Antarctic Peninsula and the South Shetland Islands. The Bransfield Basin is composed of three small basins, and two of them, the Central and Eastern Bransfield Basins, were surveyed during a recent cruise (GEBRA 93). The full swath bathymetry coverage as well as the single-channel seismic reflection and magnetic profiles that have been acquired, help us to better understand the morphostructure and recent evolution of the Bransfield Basin. Six large volcanic edifices aligned with the basin axis stick out of the sedimented seafloor of the Central Bransfield Basin. In contrast, the Eastern Bransfield Basin is characterised by four deep troughs displaying a rhombic-shape, and small, scattered volcanic cones located in the southwestern half basin. Seamount volcanism plays an important role in the formation of new crust in the Bransfield Basin. The larger seamounts of the Central Bransfield Basin are located at the intersection of the two main orthogonal sets of faults (longitudinal ENE-WSW and transversal NNW-SSE). Morphological analysis of the seamounts indicates a multi-staged volcano-tectonic construction. The distribution and shape of these edifices suggests that both volcanism and extension are concentrated at the same preferential areas through time. This might be related to the fracturation style of the continental crust. The Central and Eastern Bransfield Basins are very different in morphostructure, volcanism, and sedimentary cover. The Central Bransfield Basin shows evidence of NW-SE extensional faulting and focused active MORB-volcanism interpreted as result of incipient seafloor spreading. The Eastern Bransfield Basin is still in a rifting stage, mainly dominated by a NW-SE extension and some left-lateral strike-slip component probably related to the South Scotia Ridge., Sí

The wide variety of sensors involved makes it desirable to have a standardized description of the sensor itself and the data acquired by the sensor. A comprehensive data set of the seafloor relief and superficial sedimentary cover on the Ebro progradational continental slope, NW Mediterranean Sea, reveals that its Late Quaternary building results from complex interrelationships between processes ranging from channel abandonment to incision of inner minor courses, from retrogressive erosion and channel capture to levee cutting and new channel opening, from channel wall sliding to shelf-edge and channel spillover. These processes succeed ones to the others both in time and space conforming a canibalistic frame where the balance between destructive and constructive processes is finally favourable to the last. They result in the formation of the channel-levee complexes characteristic of the Ebro continental slope and base-of-slope

The GEBRA '93 (Geological Evolution of the Bransfield Basin) survey was carried out in December 1993 in the Bransfield Strait (NW Antarctic Peninsula) and adjacent areas, onboard BIO Hespérides. The geophysical data acquired allow to characterize the morphostructure, sediment cover and magnetic anomalies of the SW-NE trending Central Bransfield Basin. Some transverse shifts and tresholds, together with alongbasin volcanic alignments, complicate the morphology and seismic structure of what otherwise would have been a long, continuous axial trough opened on a crust under extension. A major submarine valley, named Gebra Valley has also been identified

Generation of a numerical model including all of these factors, allow us the transport types characterization, and their location in the Maresme Coast (NE Barcelona), for all the different climate regimes

Two different types of sand bodies characterize the Maresme Coast (NE Spain). A longshore submarine sand,bar built by theTordera river output is 6 km long and progressively deepens to 8 m depth. Four littoral bar systems have been generated at decresing depths following the sea level rise from the shelf. These sand bodies are generated by quite different processes: littoral drift; reflective storm waves and rip currents. C14 dating has enabled us to make a chronological frame work for both systems

The EMSODEV[1] (European Multidisciplinary Seafloor and water column Observatory DEVelopment) is an EU project whose general objective is to set up the full implementation and operation of the EMSO distributed Research Infrastructure (RI), through the development, testing and deployment of an EMSO Generic Instrument Module (EGIM). This research infrastructure will provide accurate records on marine environmental changes from distributed local nodes around Europe. These observations are critical to respond accurately to the social and scientific challenges such as climate change, changes in marine ecosystems, and marine hazards. In this paper we present the design and development of the EGIM data acquisition system. EGIM is able to operate on any EMSO node, mooring line, sea bed station, cabled or non-cabled and surface buoy. In fact a central function of EGIM within the EMSO infrastructure is to have a number of ocean locations where the same set of core variables are measured homogeneously: using the same hardware, same sensor references, same qualification methods, same calibration methods, same data format and access, and same maintenance procedures.
