“Nano-scale characterization for cutting-edge materials research and sustainable materials development”, Dresden, Germany, August 30 th, 2019, Doped ZnO nanostructures have been widely investigated for their electrical and optical properties. It is one of the most used transparent conducting oxide (TCO) with low resistivity (¿10¿3¿¿¿¿¿), high transparency (>80%) and high carrier concentration (¿1020¿¿¿¿¿3). Doping with Zr is proposed because of the similar ionic size of Zr4+ and Zn2+. That means the lattice distortions are minimized while the thermal and the chemical stability are improved being a promising alternative for high temperature working devices [1]. Furthermore, ZnO:Zr has shown enhanced photocatalytic properties [2]. In this work, Zr doped ZnO structures have been grown on different oriented Silicon substrates by a vapour-solid method under an Argon flux as is shown in Figure 1a. Mixtures of ZnS and ZrO2 in different percentages were used as precursors. Silicon and substrates have been also irradiated under certain conditions by a femtosecond laser operating at 1030nm with a pulse duration of 340 fs (Figure 1b). The irradiation of the substrates generates laser periodic surface structures (LIPSS) which depending on the irradiation condition could be amorphous or ablative structures [3]. The influence of the processed surface in the growth has been studied according to different parameters as the thermal treatment duration, percentage of doping, type of induced LIPSS and substrate orientation among others. Scanning Electron Microscopy has been used to analyze the morphology of the structures and Photoluminescence measurements provide information about the luminescence properties and the amount of defects in the structure giving a hint about the influence of the different parameters used in the growing process. ICSE 2019, Barcelona World Trade Center, 26-31 de mayo de 2019. -- https://congresses.icmab.es/icse8, In recent years fs-laser induced local modification of the glass composition has been shown to provide an extremely efficient alternative for the production of high performance passive waveguides, waveguide optical amplifiers and lasers [ , , , ]. We have shown that in several glass families including phosphates [3], tellurites [ ], and borates [ ] it is feasible producing high contrast waveguides by inducing the migration of an index carrier element (La, Te,¿) towards the guiding region by fs-laser irradiation at high repetition rate. In the context of the aforementioned applications in amplification and lasing, it is important to know the wavelength dependence of the refractive index contrast (¿n(¿)) of waveguides produced by fs-laser assisted ion migration. There are some works that suggest that it should be is small, however there is a lack of experimental measurements of the actual dispersion of the refractive index of the waveguides. This is because measurement of the refractive index of micron-sized optical inscribed waveguides inside a dielectric is a challenging task. Different methods are used to determine the refractive index contrast, among them those based on the refracted near field determination (RNF) are the ones providing the best resolution. However, most of such methods do not provide spectroscopic analysis, which hinders the knowledge of the index dispersion of the waveguide, an essential parameter. In this work, we demonstrate the successful determination of the refractive index as a function of the wavelength in the spectral region of 250-1700 nm for channel waveguides produced by fs-laser induced ion-migration in P2O5-La2O3-K2O-based glass by using imaging ellipsometry. The results show that the inscribed waveguides have a high refractive index contrast with a diameter in the 25 ¿m range. SEM-EDX compositional analysis shows that in this glass waveguides are formed due to an enrichment in La2O3 in the topmost part of the laser excited region which is accompanied by the cross migration of K2O towards the region underneath. Interestingly, the index contrast of the waveguides shows a largely wavelength independent behavior in the studied VIS-IR spectral region. We will discuss how this behavior can be related to the fact that in the analyzed compositional range, La3+ ions linearly contribute to the glass polarizability due to the relatively large mass of La3+ ions and the relatively small size of the isolated La-polyhedra accommodated in the phosphate glass network.

In eukaryotes, TFs are often represented by functionally redundant members of large gene families. Overexpression might prove a means to unveil the biological functions of redundant TFs; however, constitutive overexpression of TFs frequently causes severe developmental defects, preventing their functional characterization. Conditional overexpression strategies help to overcome this problem. Here, we report on the TRANSPLANTA collection of Arabidopsis lines, each expressing one of 949 TFs under the control of a β–estradiol-inducible promoter. Thus far, 1636 independent homozygous lines, representing an average of 2.6 lines for every TF, have been produced for the inducible expression of 634 TFs. Along with a GUS-GFP reporter, randomly selected TRANSPLANTA lines were tested and confirmed for conditional transgene expression upon β–estradiol treatment. As a proof of concept for the exploitation of this resource, β–estradiol-induced proliferation of root hairs, dark-induced senescence, anthocyanin accumulation and dwarfism were observed in lines conditionally expressing full-length cDNAs encoding RHD6, WRKY22, MYB123/TT2 and MYB26, respectively, in agreement with previously reported phenotypes conferred by these TFs. Further screening performed with other TRANSPLANTA lines allowed the identification of TFs involved in different plant biological processes, illustrating that the collection is a powerful resource for the functional characterization of TFs. For instance, ANAC058 and a TINY/AP2 TF were identified as modulators of ABA-mediated germination potential, and RAP2.10/DEAR4 was identified as a regulator of cell death in the hypocotyl–root transition zone. This document presents several results obtained in the ABYSS project whose main aim is to study the possible relationship between the catch rate of juvenile bigeye and the depth of the purse seine net in order to implement the most suitable management measures using the results obtained. The project was undertaken between June 2008 and April 2010. Temperature and depth loggers were deployed in the nets of 11 tuna purse seiners operating under the Spanish flag in the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans. 1648 sets were analyzed, which provided 61933 tons of tropical tuna: yellowfin (Thunnus albacares, Bonnaterre, 1788), skipjack (Katsuwonus pelamis, Linnaeus, 1758) and bigeye (Thunnus obesus, Lowe, 1839). The depth of the nets used ranged from 220 to 309 metres and the fishing depths reached varied between 65 and 226 metres. This means that the percentage of mean depth vis-à-vis net size was 56.73% (range between 20% and 83%). The speed of the falling net varied between 0.1 and 0.2 metres per second. In addition to the analysis of the catches estimated by the skipper, the study was made using specific composition data of the catch corrected by multi-species sampling. On this assumption, the analysis was reduced to 400 sets with 17230 tons of catch. No differential bathymetric distribution was observed between the three species in any of the oceans and in either of the two analyses undertaken (with and without specific correction).
