Abstract

International audience; This paper presents an automation of the iterative calculation process between the Monte-Carlo transport code TRIPOLI4 and the evolution package DARWIN with new capabilities such as perturbation propagation routines. In parallel several dose rate measurements have been conducted in PHEBUS, a CEA research reactor by using TLD's and OSL dosimeters. This allows to directly confront computations with experimental results.

Abstract

We report a joint experimental and molecular simulation study of water condensation in silicalite-1 zeolite. A sample was synthesized using the fluoride route and was found to contain essentially no defects. A second sample synthesized using the hydroxide route was found to contain a small amount of silanol groups. The thermodynamics of water condensation was studied in these two samples, as well as in a commercial sample, in order to understand the effect of local defects on water adsorption. The molecular simulation study enabled us to qualitatively reproduce the experimentally observed condensation thermodynamics features. A shift and a rounding of the condensation transition was observed with an increasing hydrophilicity of the local defect, but the condensation transition was still observed above the water saturation vapor pressure P0. Both experiments and simulations agree on the fact that a small water uptake can be observed at very low pressure, but that the bulk liquid does not form from the gas phase below P0. The picture that emerges from the observed water condensation mechanism is the existence of a heterogeneous internal surface that is overall hydrophobic, despite the existence of hydrophilic "patches". This heterogeneous surface configuration is thermodynamically stable in a wide range of reduced pressures (from P/P0 = 0.2 to a few thousands), until the condensation transition takes place.

Abstract

Microwave transistor stability is a real preoccupation of MMICs designers. In this paper, it is shown that the classical electrical lumped model is inappropriate to the FET stability study. A non linear finger-distributed modeling technique, based on an electromagnetic deem bedding, is presented. The derived model exhibits a very interesting capability to predict the electrical behavior of arbitrary shaped transistor. It also brings a real improvement in the FET analysis study.

32. High efficiency LOW AM/PM 6W C-band MMIC power amplifier for a space radar program

Abstract

This paper describes the design of a compact C-band MMIC power amplifier. Intensive non-linear and electro-magnetic simulations with accurate table-based models allowed the chips to achieve very good performance. A linear gain of 28 dB, an output power greater than 6 W with 50 % of power added efficiency and 3°/dB of AM/PM conversion at 2.5 dB gain compression have been measured over production at ambient temperature in the useful bandwidth.

Abstract

Inorganic reinforcements are used in rubber, and in particular in tyre treads for light vehicles, in order to improve the compromise between three key features of tyres: road holding performance or road adherence, especially when the road is wet or snow-covered (road safety), roll resistance (petrol consumption), and resistance to wear (lifetime of the tyre). Over the last ten years, highly dispersible silicas (HDS) developed by Rhodia have been more and more widely used as a substitute for the traditionally used carbon black. The advantage with HDS materials is that they improve road holding and reduce roll resistance, while maintaining the same level of resistance to wear. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The catalytic function of heteropoly compounds has attracted much attention because of their variety and high potential as catalysts. Supported heteropoly acids are generally prepared by impregnation of the active phase by a solution. In this work, we present a new concept for the preparation of a new solid catalyst by direct incorporation of tungstophosphoric species (HPW) into organized mesoporous silica. Synthesis of organized mesoporous silica containing PW was carried out with a mixture of two surfactants, a non ionic one and a cationic one. Taking into account the instability of the tungstophosphate species, the pH domain was restricted to 4-6. The presence of PW species incorporated in the solids was evidenced by solid state 31P NMR. The relaxation times of these solids indicate a weaker mobility of PW in comparison with the impregnated ones.

Abstract

Heteropoly acids of the Keggin type H8-xXM12O40, where X is the central atom (Si, P,...), x its oxidation state and M, a transition metal (Mo, W,...) are well known as oxidation and acid catalysts. The chief disadvantage of heteropoly acids is their weak thermal stability, resulting in a degradation of the active phase. Therefore, several attempts were taken on to stabilize them by supporting on various carriers. Silica is an excellent support for the heteropoly acids. Generally, the solid is prepared by impregnation of the active phase by a solution. In this paper, we proposed to determine and quantify the different tungstophosphate species by choosing the optimal conditions to incorporate one of such species. Results obtained by 31P NMR in aqueous medium of tungstophosphate species were discussed by varying the pH, the dilution and the evolution duration.
