Nanofluids are expected to be utilized in more efficient based processes. Such nanofluids are employed in cancer therapy, computer electronics, food packaging, and physical sciences, etc. The study focuses on the influence of bioconvection Carreau nanoliquid transport passing via a moving surface. Furthermore, the major properties of the Lorentz force and the magnetic field in Carreau nanoliquid transport are explored. The system of governing PDEs is turned into ODEs by using the appropriate transformation method and then solved by employing the bvp4c technique in computational MATLAB software (Lobatto IIIa formula). The contribution of several key numbers against the velocity profile, concentration profile, temperature profile, and microorganisms’ profile are monitored, and the findings are represented by graphs and numerical data.

Peaches/nectarines (Prunus persica L.) are widely cultivated worldwide. As with other species, the sugar content is the most important trait for fruit quality, especially for precocious cultivars. Most fruits need to improve their sugar content in order to be more profitable under fierce market competition. 5-Aminolevulinic acid (ALA), a naturally occurring δ-amino acid, has been shown to improve leaf photosynthesis and fruit quality, especially sugar content. However, the mechanisms are not clear. The objective of this study is to determine the effects of exogenous ALA on leaf photosynthesis, assimilate transport, and sugar accumulation during fruit development. We used the field-cultivated precocious nectarine ‘Zhongyoutao 4’ and potted cultivated peach ‘Zhongai 33’ as materials, whereas in the second experiment, we used 14C radiolabeling to trace 14C fixation in leaves, transport in branches, and distribution in different organs. The results showed that ALA significantly enhanced the photosynthetic gas exchange capacity, and the effects were maintained for at least one month. The results of the 14C radiolabel experiment showed that ALA enhanced 14C fixation in leaves, promoted the transport to fruits, and reduced the allocation rate of young leaves. This suggests that ALA enlarges “source” volume and strengthens “sink” competition; therefore, assimilate translocation to fruits is promoted. It was observed that sucrose contributed the main saccharide for peach fruit quality at maturity, which might not be converted from glucose or fructose but from starch degradation. ALA improved starch accumulation in the young fruits as well as degradation during maturity. The RT-qPCR showed that the expression of most genes involved in sugar metabolism did not correlate or even negatively correlate with fruit sucrose content. However, the expressions of SWEET1/6/7/8/15/16/17 were highly correlated with the sucrose content, and exogenous ALA treatment up-regulated the gene expression at fruit maturity, suggesting they might play an important role in fruit sugar accumulation. These results provide important theoretical support for ALA application in fruit quality improvement, as well as a regulatory mechanism study on sugar accumulation in fruits.

The significant interpretation of this model is to explore the influence of temperature-dependent heat source/sink on laminar free-convective flow in an annular porous region such as petroleum engineering, thermal technique and groundwater hydrology. For a unified solution of the Brinkman-Darcy model, the regulatory equations solved analytically by applying the variation of parameter technique in terms of Bessel's functions for the heat source and sink. Moreover, we have investigated the Variations of Darcy number, Heat source/sink and viscosity ratio in the presence of isothermal and constant heat flux sequentially. As a result, we received the critical value of the velocity for the radii ratio (R = 2.05 and 2.92) in both the cases of source and sink (S = 1.0 and Si = 0.1) respectively which is exhibited through the graphs. Further, the numerical outcomes present of the skin friction including volume flow with annular gap by the graphs as well as tables.

Source sink relationship, dry matter and starch partitioning, rhizome bulking process in relation to dry matter and starch partitioning in developing rhizomes and growth and gas exchange parameters were studied in three popular varieties of ginger viz., IISR Varada, IISR Mahima and IISR Rejatha. Results revealed that maximum tiller production and leaf area accumulation occurred between 60 and 120 days after planting (DAP) in all three varieties. Photosynthetic rate and hormone contents (auxin and cytokinin) increased from 90-120 DAP, peaked at 120 DAP and then started declining. Biomass partitioning data revealed that the active biomass accumulation stage was between 60 and 150 DAP in ginger. The dry matter accumulation pattern in rhizomes also revealed that maximum dry matter accumulation in rhizomes also occurred between 60 and 150 DAP in all the three varieties. Maximum starch accumulation in the rhizomes also occurred during the same period. These results suggest that most of the rhizome bulking process occurred between 60 and150 DAP in ginger. Total biomass accumulation, dry matter accumulation and starch accumulation in rhizomes followed similar trends.

The inspiration driving this article is to explore the impacts of electromagnetic field and heat source/sink on two dimensional nanofluid flow over a stretching cylinder. The effectively controlled nanofluid model utilized in the current assessment incorporates the nanoparticle fraction model. The nanoparticles specified here are Cobalt $Co$ and Gadolinium $Gd$. Cobalt, $Co$ is a shunt material in the thermomagnetic generator. Gadolinium, $Gd$ is the material first used practically in the thermomagnetic generator. Motor Oil has taken as a base fluid. The governing system of equations solved numerically utilizing MATLAB. The effect of electric field parameter on velocity profile, Heat source/sink on temperature and heat transfer profile, has examined. Further, we noticed that Gadolinium is the most suitable material for the thermomagnetic generator. Its temperature is close to room temperature.

Background Mechanical damage is an unavoidable threat to the growth and survival of plants. Although a wound to senescing (lower) leaves improves plant vitality, a wound to younger (upper) leaves often causes damage to or death of the whole plant. Source-sink models are often used to explain how plants respond to biotic or abiotic stresses. In this study, a source-sink model was used to explain the difference in the metabolic mechanism of mechanical damage to young and senescing leaves of Catharanthus roseus. Results In our study, GC-MS and LC-QTOF-MS metabolomics techniques were used to explore the differences in source-sink allocation and metabolic regulation in different organs of Catharanthus roseus after mechanical damage to the upper/lower leaves (WUL/WLL). Compared with that of the control group, the energy supplies of the WUL and WLL groups were increased and delivered to the secondary metabolic pathway through the TCA cycle. The two treatment groups adopted different secondary metabolic response strategies. The WLL group increased the input to the defense response after damage by increasing the accumulation of phenolics. A source-sink model was applied to the defensive responses to local (damaged leaves) and systemic (whole plant) damage. In the WUL group, the number of sinks increased due to damage to young leaves, and the tolerance response was emphasized. Conclusion The accumulation of primary and secondary metabolites was significantly different between the two mechanical damage treatments. Catharanthus roseus uses different trade-offs between tolerance (repair) and defense to respond to mechanical damage. Repairing damage and chemical defenses are thought to be more energetically expensive than growth development, confirming the trade-offs and allocation of resources seen in this source-sink model.

Fifty YAU promising rice genotypes were used to evaluate source-sink relationship and yield performance in 2017 dry season. The experiment was conducted in the experimental field of Yezin Agricultural University, Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar. The spacing was 20 cm between row and 20 cm between plants in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The data on physiological traits, yield and yield component traits were collected and analyzed by using STAR and R program. Growth duration1 is positively and significantly correlated with the number of grains panicle-1, filled grains percentage, grain yield, panicle weight, dry weight at heading and harvesting, straw weight and LAI at harvesting, and increase of dry weight from heading to harvesting. Significant positive correlation was found between growth duration2 and decrease of LAI from heading to harvesting indicating that these traits are strongly influenced by source before heading. Significant correlations between yield and physiological and yield component traits were observed except LAI at harvesting and 1000-grain weight. Therefore, yield variation among YAU promising rice lines is more related with source size than with sink size. Decrease of LAI from heading to harvesting and dry weight at maturity exhibited positive direct effect on 1000-grain weight, filled grains percentage and grain number m-2 meaning the relative contribution of source components to the sink. The contribution of the decrease of LAI from heading to harvesting to the grain yield was much higher than that of number of grains, panicle weight and 1000-grain weight. This research finding will be useful for the plant breeder to consider the improvement of yield supporting traits in the breeding program.

A new methodology for estimation of changing intensity characteristics of non-stationary heat transfer in underground heat extraction by a single-pipe upright heat exchanger is presented in this paper. Major trends in changing of a heat removal volume, linear heat transfer coefficient, linear heat transfer resistance, and heat sink radius have been estimated for specific ground types. Also a generalized one-factor linear semilogarythmic equation has been developed for specific ground types, along with an appropriate approximating function intended to simplify the underground heat extraction intensity estimation methodology.

Newtonian steady state flow of fluids with electrical conduction properties was examined adjacent to a moving heated vertical plate subjected to a magnetic field and a heat source/sink. The impact of magnetic parameter, Prandtl number, permeability coefficient, heat source/sink volumetric rate and temperature difference between heated plate and ambient temperature. A reduced system of ODEs was created via group similarity method. The solution led to some important results. Increasing permeability coefficient of the plate material resulted in a significant increase in flow velocity and a slight increase in heat flux but the magnitude of shear stress and temperature distribution decreased. Moreover, increasing the magnetic parameter, M, led to a significant decrease in velocity and a decrease in heat flux, whereas shear stress and temperature distribution increased. Furthermore, increasing Prandtl number, Pr, reduced the velocity significantly and the heat flux slightly. On the other hand, the magnitude of shear stress and temperature distribution increased. In case of using heat source, the increase in its energy rate decreased the heat flux with no significant effect on shear stress. Finally, the increment of temperature difference led to noticeable increase in velocity and a slight increase in heat flux, whereas the shear stress decreased.

The major focus of the current study was the modeling of 3D Darcy–Forchheimer flow of water–CNTs nanofluid. Impacts of non-uniform heat source/sink and Ohmic heating on 3D magneto hydrodynamic flow of water–CNTs (SWCNT and MWCNT) nanofluid were assessed. The numerical analysis method ‘Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg’ was applied for existing PDEs. It was noted that the thermal boundary layer was extended for increasing Eckert numbers along $$ x\;{\text{and}}\;y $$ direction, when the fluid showed movement away from the surface. Moreover, the gap in thermal boundary layer for H2O-SWCNT was more in comparison with H2O–MWCNT nanofluid. The numerical data of this study were validated with earlier reported outcomes and were observed to have good concord.

The primary target of present research is to examine the application of OHAM (optimal homotopy asymptotic method) for a nanofluid transport through Darcy Forchheimer space toward the stagnation region by comparing stretching and straining forces. The porous matrix is suspended with nanofluid, and the flow field is under inconsistent heat source/sink influence. The solutions of guiding boundary layer equations report that pattern of primary velocity profiles are inverted by stagnation region flow strength. Straightforward relation of Forchheimer number with heat transfer has also been observed when stagnation forces dominate stretching forces. The novelty of present article lies in vector form presentation to OHAM and in the comparative analysis of stretching and straining forces.

The aim of this paper is to explore the effect of heat source/sink, and space- and temperature-dependent viscous and Joule dissipation on 3D magnetohydrodynamic radiating Eyring–Powell nanofluid streamline flow with convective conditions past a stretching sheet. The coupled nonlinear flow, thermal, and species phenomena equations are transformed into a system of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations through suitable similarity transformations with corresponding boundary conditions. The transformed dimensionless equations are then solved analytically with the Adomian decomposition method. A comprehensive study is conducted on the influence of sundry physical dimensionless parameters governing the flow velocity, temperature, and concentration distributions. For parameters of engineering interest, the computed numerical results are presented with the aid of tables. Furthermore, the present solutions agree with the earlier reported results in specific cases, and an excellent correlation is witnessed. The present analysis is of great interest germane to cooling of metallic plates, polishing of artificial heart valves, oil pipeline friction reduction in the oil industry, flow tracers, enhanced oil recovery, and separation processes in chemical industries and petroleum extraction.

Time-dependent rotating flow in presence of heat source/sink, applied magnetic field, Joule heating, thermal radiation, and viscous dissipation is considered. Chemical reaction with Arrhenius activation energy is implemented. The governing partial differential equations have been reduced to ordinary differential systems. Shooting scheme is implemented for the computations of governing systems. Graphical results are arranged for velocity, temperature, and concentration, skin friction coefficients, and heat and mass transfer rates. Main results are mentioned in conclusion portion. It is analyzed that velocity decays in the presence of magnetic variable while temperature and concentration fields are enhanced via Eckert number and fitted rate constant. Moreover drag force and mass and heat transfer rates decrease through higher estimations of rotation rate variable, magnetic parameter, and Eckert number.

There is limited knowledge about the effects of the severity and timing of drought stress on oat (Avena sativa) yield and the critical stages at which water management could be effectively implemented. A controlled study was conducted to identify a variety-specific critical stage, and to examine the physiological mechanisms of drought stress on photosynthesis (Pn) and yield formation in two contrasting genotypes. We found that compared with sufficient water supply (AW), grain yield was reduced by 36%, 69% and 44% in ‘Shadow’, and by 31%, 33% and 41% in ‘Bia’ under the severe stress imposed either at jointing, heading or post-anthesis stage. The grain/leaf area (LA) ratio increased by 18–32% and biomass distribution to stems + leaves decreased by 5.2–6.2% of Bia under moderate stress (MS) as compared to AW. This, along with the improved harvest index, led to a comparable yield. Under AW, Shadow displayed 13–16% larger LA duration (LAD) and had significantly higher Pn at the heading and post-anthesis stages, leading to 13% to 20% more spikelets panicle−1 and 13–21% greater groat yields than Bia. It can be concluded that (1) water stress at heading for Shadow and at post-anthesis for Bia was detrimental to grain yield through reduced LA and LAD with a reduced sink size, (2) under the MS, greater grain yield of the hulled Bia was attributable to a stronger sink activity, and (3) higher groat yield of the naked Shadow under AW was associated mainly with a higher source activity and more spikelets panicle−1.
