Purpose Meniscal injuries are a common occurrence in sports-related activities, often leading to pain, reduced joint function, and impaired athletic performance. This study aimed to evaluate the role of ultrasound-guided intra-articular platelet-rich plasma (PRP)-rich fluid injection which was obtained through serial centrifugation in the treatment of meniscal injuries resulting from sports activities. Materials and Methods A prospective study was conducted involving 54 cases with grade I, II, and III meniscal injuries, aged 18 and 43 years. PRP-rich fluid was prepared by subjecting autologous blood samples to a two-step centrifugation process. Patients were assessed pretreatment and at regular intervals posttreatment. Results Patients reported reduced pain and improved joint functionality following treatment. Average age of the patients was 34.4 years, and average follow-up period was 275.1 days. It is noteworthy that no cases of bilateral meniscal injuries were identified; indicating that the focus was primarily on single knee injuries. Predominance of grade II injuries suggests that the PRP intervention might be particularly effective in addressing more severe meniscal tears. Conclusion The results of our study provide compelling evidence for the positive impact of PRP augmentation in meniscus repair. Our findings indicate that PRP therapy has the potential to bring about substantial benefits for individuals with meniscus tears of the knee, particularly in terms of pain relief and enhanced functional capabilities. Background: Attentional engagement, the ability to maintain focus on relevant tasks, plays a crucial role in optimizing human performance. Studies have shown that athletes exhibit superior attentional engagement compared to non-athletes; however, it remains unclear if these benefits persist in non-sport-related tasks or differ across types of sports expertise, such as open-skill versus closed-skill sports. Methods: Ninety-three young adults, divided into open-skill athletes (n = 31), closed-skill athletes (n = 31), and a control group (n = 31), completed an auditory oddball task while the P3 component of event-related potentials was measured to assess attentional processing. Aerobic fitness was assessed using the YMCA fitness test, and linear regression models, adjusted for confounders, examined the relationship between aerobic fitness and attentional processing. Results: Findings revealed that both open- and closed-skill athletes exhibited significantly larger P3 amplitudes than non-athletes, indicating enhanced attentional engagement. However, no significant differences in response time or response accuracy were observed between the groups. Hierarchical regression analysis further demonstrated a positive correlation between aerobic fitness and P3 amplitude, underscoring the role of aerobic fitness in cognitive processing. Conclusion: These findings suggest that participation in either open- or closed-skill sports can enhance attentional engagement beyond the sports context in healthy young adults, with aerobic fitness playing a key role in supporting cognitive performance. Additionally, this study extends previous findings from Western and Asian literature by providing evidence from an Egyptian sample, thereby supporting the generalizability of the cognitive benefits of aerobic fitness and sports participation across different cultural contexts. ANKLE osteoarthritis , *PATIENT satisfaction , *CYCLING , *RANGE of motion of joints , *SPORTS officiating , *TOTAL ankle replacement - Abstract
Background/Objectives: The interest in performing total ankle arthroplasty (TAA) to address end-stage ankle osteoarthritis (OA) is continuously growing. Sports activity plays an important role in our world. The literature is sparse regarding return-to-sports activity following TAA. The levels and types of sports in TAA are rarely reported. The purpose of this prospective case series study is to investigate sports activity in ankle osteoarthritis (OA) and TAA in terms of rate, frequency, type, and clinical outcomes with a minimum 2 years of follow-up after surgery. Methods: A total of 103 patients (105 implants, 52 female, and 51 male), mean age 60.5 years (range, 23–84 years) with end-stage ankle OA were treated using a three-component, uncemented, mobile-bearing VANTAGE Total Ankle System. The mean follow-up was 2.9 years (range, 2–5 years). Visual Analogic Scale Pain Score (VAS, 0–10 points), Ankle Dorsiflexion/Plantarflexion (DF/PF) range of motion (ROM; degrees), functional American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) Ankle/Hindfoot Score (0–100 points), Subjective Patients' Satisfaction Score (0–10 points), Sports Activity Rate, Sports Frequency Score, and sports type were assessed. Results: The mean preoperative VAS Pain Score was 6.7 points (range, 3–10 points) and 0.2 points for postoperative (range, 0–3 points) (p < 0.001). The mean DF/PF ROM was 24.9° preoperative (range, 0–60°) and 52.9° postoperative (range, 15–85°) (p < 0.001). The mean preoperative functional AOFAS Ankle/Hindfoot Score was 39.5 points (range, 4–57 points) and 97.8 points for postoperative (range, 75–100 points) (p < 0.001). The mean postoperative Subjective Patients' Satisfaction Score was 9.7 points (range, 7–10 points). The preoperative Sports Activity Rate was 31.1%, with 85.4% for postoperative (p < 0.001). All the groups exhibited substantial Sports Frequency Score increases (p < 0.001). The most practised sports were hiking, biking, fitness, and swimming. Conclusions: total ankle arthroplasty (TAA) is an effective treatment for end-stage ankle OA. TAA facilitates a noteworthy increase in sports activity. This research offers important sports insights to patients with ankle OA and TAA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of the article is to show the synergy between theology and sport on the example of the educational system of Saint John Bosco created by him during his formation and pedagogical practice aimed at young people, especially the poor and neglected in intellectual, social, cultural and religious terms. The article presents the role and importance of sport in the educational system of the teacher from Turin, along with its enormous fitness and health, socio-cultural, psychological-interactional and ethical-religious potential. The analysis of the collected material shows that sports activity in the preventive system is not an addition or an insignificant decoration that can make the system image more attractive, but the foundation on which subsequent layers of the pedagogical system are built. Therefore, it may be concluded that sports activity was not included on the basis of generous voluntary action, but as an integral and complementary, necessary and inalienable element, serving the comprehensive, harmonious and holistic development of children and youth.

The article provides an overview of subjective and objective methods for diagnosing the psycho-emotional state and cognitive functions in athletes. The research objective was to substantiate the efficiency of combined psychological and psycho-physiological methods for diagnosing psycho-emotional states and cognitive functions in athletes. The review involved domestic and foreign studies of the functional state of athletes that featured subjective, objective, conventional, and novel methods. An optimal training program requires basic diagnostics of cognitive functions, i.e., attention span and memory capacity, as well as the psycho-emotional state. In this respect, simultaneous profiling of psycho-emotional state and cognitive functions as interrelated phenomena proves the most efficient approach. The list of instrumental methods of cognitive studies includes skin conductance response, electromyography, and heart rate variability. Electroencephalography as a means of assessing the bioelectric potential of the brain is one of the most accessible and informative objective methods of cognitive function assessment. Electroencephalographic indicators make it possible to determine cognitive functions in athletes and identify possible disorders. Electroencephalographic alpha activity under various physical loads can serve as markers of functional state and self-regulation indicators in athletes.

Older adults who use digital technology are desired to adapt to digitalization and literacy. One required aspect is eHealth literacy, measured with the eHealth Literacy Scale (eHEALS). Many studies on eHealth literacy have used the eHEALS to examine the health behaviors of college students, relatively younger adults, and Internet users. However, the relevance of eHealth literacy to social activity has not yet been studied in older adults. The purposes of this study were to examine the relationship between eHealth literacy and health behaviors and social activities (community, cultural, and sports activities) and to investigate the factors associated with eHEALS scores among community-dwelling older adults. The mean eHEALS score was 12.4 points (SD 8.2), with the majority (73.3%) having the lowest score (the lowest score is 8 points). Males (17.6, SD 10.5) scored significantly higher than females (11.8, SD 7.7). The eHEALS score had a significant relationship with both cultural and community activity. Five factors significantly associated with having the lowest eHEALS score were cultural activity at least once a week, no cultural activity, no community activity, total IADL score, and intellectual activity. These results suggest that eHealth literacy is associated with community activity and cultural activity among older adults.

The importance of volleyball in the field of education and health improvement in the context of modern challenges (including military ones) has acquired a new meaning. The purpose of the article is to analyse the methods of supporting motivation to play volleyball among higher education students against the background of the deployment of Russian aggression as a critical factor. To achieve this goal, a number of scientific methods were used: content analysis of scientific literature, comparative analysis, modelling method. A total of 31 items of literature were selected for analysis. The results show that students are motivated to play volleyball by certain motives. It has been proved that in the global dimension and in times of martial law, patriotism and the desire to represent one's country with dignity are relevant, etc. no less relevant are personal motivators related to the realisation of one's own competitive desires. The conclusions emphasise that in the conditions of military tan, motivation can fall, so an important task for the coaching and teaching team is to constantly search for new methods to support students. An important direction for future research is an empirical study of the outlined methods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

There are no investigations about the outcomes of idiopathic PVC catheter ablation (CA) in athletes compared to the sedentary population. We conducted a prospective single-centre observational study. The primary and secondary procedural outcomes were the post-ablation reduction of premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) in an athletes vs. non-athletes group and in agonist vs. leisure-time athletes. The third was the evaluation of the resumption of physical activity and the improvement of symptoms in agonist and leisure-time athletes. From January 2020 to October 2022 we enrolled 79 patients with RVOT/LVOT/fascicular PVC presumed origin. The median percentage of decrease between the pre-procedure and post-procedure Holter monitoring in the non-athletes group was 96 (IQR 68–98) and 98 in the athletes group (IQR 92–99) (p = 0.08). Considering the athletes, the median percentage of decrease in the number of PVCs was 98 (IQR 93–99) and 98 (IQR 87–99), respectively, in leisure-time and agonistic athletes (p = 0.42). Sixteen (70%) leisure time and seventeen (90%) agonist athletes (p = 0.24) have resumed physical activity 3 months after PVC CA; among agonistic athletes, 59% have resumed competitive physical activity. Many leisure-time (88%) and agonist (70%) athletes experienced an improvement in symptoms after ablation. PVC CA was effective and safe in both groups, reducing symptoms and allowing a quick and safe return to sports activities in athletes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Psychomotor development provides numerous essential skills for the success of children and adolescents in later life. Participation in sports is crucial for proper growth and development during adolescence. This research was conducted with the aim of examining the impact of sports on the psychomotor development of adolescents. The study was carried out at the "12. December" Elementary School in Sjenica, with a sample of 80 respondents aged 12 to 14 years, with both genders represented equally in terms of number and age. In line with the research problem and objectives, we applied the Psychomotor Evaluation Test, created as a measurement instrument based on Oliveira's test (Oliveira, 2008). The psychomotor tests evaluated five psychomotor abilities: coordination and balance (CB), body composition (BC), laterality (L), spatial organization (SO), and temporal organization (TO). In the coordination section, we focused on global coordination, dissociative movements, and hand-eye coordination, which involves coordinated control of eye movements by hand movements and the processing of visual input to guide reach and grasp, along with the use of proprioception of the hands to guide the eyes. For balance, we studied both its static and dynamic characteristics. Over a period of 4 weeks, a structured physical education class plan was implemented. The physical education teacher led only the experimental group through these lessons, which were pre-structured, planned, and tailored for the experimental group. Students in the experimental group participated in regular physical education classes four times a week, each lasting 45 minutes. The experimental group completed a total of sixteen physical education classes. At the end of the research, the same group of tests was applied to both groups. Growth in psychomotor characteristics was consistently statistically higher in the experimental group. Based on the results, we conclude that there were no significant deviations based on gender. The research demonstrated the impact of physical activity on the psychomotor and overall development of adolescents.

Timely diagnosis and prevention of cardiovascular diseases is based on markers that detect changes in the athlete’s body at an early stage of disease. To implement this task, it is important to use novel laboratory techniques. We have carried out a comparative determination of immunological markers, specific antibodies to angiotensin, bradykinin, histamine, dopamine, serotonin and functional indicators of the cardiovascular system in athletes of various qualifications. The object of study included athletes of the Russian national teams who underwent an in-depth examination (IME) as part of medical survey. The participants were divided into groups depending on the sport arts and qualifications. Representatives of the group “Cyclic sports” included athletes without a category of 30 people and 29 qualified athletes (1st step, Candidate Master, Master of Sports, etc.). The “Combat sports” group consisted of 32 people without a category and 31 athletes with qualifications similar to those indicated above. Athletes of “Speed-strength” sports are represented by a group of 31 people without a category and 29 athletes with qualifications. The functional parameters of the cardiovascular system included analysis of heart rate, systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure, which were compared with control values established for the athletes. The immunological indexes were determined in blood serum of the athletes and in subjects from control group by means of the solid-phase ELISA method using conjugated antigens of angiotensin, bradykinin, histamine, dopamine, serotonin for absorption on the plates. To compare the indexes, a control group of 30 people without cardiovascular symptoms was examined. Diastolic blood pressure for athletes of cyclic sports and combat sports was below the control values, and, for athletes of speed-strength sports, it was higher than in control group. A decrease in diastolic blood pressure for the above subgroup of athletes may indicate characteristic adaptive physiological changes in myocardium. The levels of immune-related indexes for serotonin, dopamine for the athletes of all groups corresponded to the control values. The only exception concerned qualified athletes of cyclic sports, which significantly differed from the normal values, compared to athletes without a sports category. Significantly high immunological parameters for histamine and angiotensin did not depend on the athlete’s qualification. In athletes involved in speed-strength sports, the levels of indexes for bradykinin did not differ from the normal values, and, for athletes in cyclic sports and combat sports, they significantly exceeded the norm.We have shown that different levels and types of sports activities affect the performance of cardiovascular system in their own way. The changes in immunological parameters reflect regulatory state of cardiovascular system. Accordingly, their simultaneous increase against the control may indicate participation in the development of cardiovascular diseases. The differences in their levels for athletes involved in combat sports, cyclic and speed-strength sporting activities show deeper changes in regulatory systems associated with duration and level of physical activities.

Purpose: The aim of the present study is to evaluate a population of young patients affected by Spina Bifida (SB) to describe their cardiorespiratory function and bone mineral density profile, analyzing any differences between people performing and those who do not perform sports activity. The study also aimed to rule out possible congenital heart disease associated with spina bifida, considering the common origin of certain cardiac structures with those found to be altered in SB patients. Methods: Thirty-four young patients, aged between 12 and 22 years, diagnosed with spinal dysraphism (SD), have been clinically described and, in order to evaluate their physical fitness, functional capacity and bone mass, almost all of them underwent a complete cardiorespiratory assessment, including electrocardiogram (ECG), echocardiogram, Cardiopulmonary Exercise Test (CPET), body composition analysis using bioimpedance analysis (BIA) and Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA), as well as the estimation of bone mineral density (BMD) with Computerized Bone Mineralometry (CBM). Results: Collected data demonstrated that only 35% of the subjects practiced physical activity during the week. BMI and percentage FM values were pathological in at least 50% of the population. On cardiological investigations (ECG and echocardiogram), no significant alterations were found. In all patients who performed CPET (79.4%), pathological values of the main functional capacity parameters were revealed, especially peak oxygen consumption (VO2 peak), even when corrected for BCM or FFM estimated at BIA and DEXA, respectively. In the CBM analysis, out of 27 patients in whom the femoral T-score was evaluated, a condition of osteopenia was revealed in 40.7% of the patients (11/27) and osteoporosis in 18.5% (5/27); out of 27 patients in whom the lumbar T-score was evaluated, 37% of the patients showed osteopenia (10/27) and 29.6% osteoporosis (8/27). When the comparison between exercising and non-exercising patients was performed, the only statistically significant difference that emerged was the median lumbar T-score value, which appeared lower in the group not performing physical activity (p = 0,009). Conclusions: The extensive cardiorespiratory evaluation, including CPET, of our cohort of spina bifida patients showed altered values of the main parameters related to cardiorespiratory fitness and is the only study in the literature that analysed bone mineralization values in physically active and sedentary spina bifida patients and demonstrated a statistically significant difference. Furthermore, it is the only study to date that investigated the possible association of congenital heart diseases with SD, without demonstrating the existence of pathological conditions. Introduction: For children aged 5-17 years, WHO recommends moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity for at least 60 minutes daily which would account for 420 minutes of physical activity per week regardless of working days or holidays. With the increasing prevalence of non-communicable diseases in Kerala, this study aimed to assess the level of physical activity among high school students in Ernakulam District, Kerala. Materials and Methods: A school-based cross-sectional study was conducted among ninth and tenth standard students of two randomly selected schools in Ernakulam District. A total of 303 children were recruited for the study. Consent rate and response rate of the study were 100%. A structured questionnaire adapted from MRC-CPAQ (Children's Physical Activity Questionnaire) was used to collect the data. Results: The study revealed that out of 303 students, 72.9% were < 15 years, 77% were males, and 59% were urban residents. More than 70% of the participants were actively involved in physical activity of moderate-to-vigorous intensity. Males, in the age group of 15 years and above, having a separate play area, and those with no siblings were found to have significantly higher levels of physical activity. Conclusion: The study was able to identify a positive trend for physical activity among adolescents. Town planning and building of play areas are essential to develop and retain the habit of physical activity among adolescents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Background Fitness has important implications for physical activity behavior and is associated with various health-related outcomes. It can be assessed through a test battery or a self-reported questionnaire. One example is the FFB-Mot (Funktionsfragebogen Motorik; engl. functional fitness questionnaire) which consist of 28 items to assess four components of fitness in adults: cardiorespiratory fitness/ endurance, muscular strength, gross motor coordination, and flexibility. The aims of this manuscript were to (1) provide an English-version of the FFB-Mot questionnaire (developed from the German-version using translation and back-translation) to the international community of researchers in the areas of physical activity, fitness and health in adults, and (2) examine the predictive validity of the FFB-Mot questionnaire in a large sample of community-dwelling adults. Methods We used data from a longitudinal study in Germany with four measurement waves over a period of 18 years, with samples ranging between 310 and 437 participants (1572 adults in total, mean ages 46–58 years). To assess predictive validity, we calculated Pearson correlations between FFB-Mot data collected in 1997 and external health-related criteria (i.e., subjective health status, physician-rated health status, back pain, physical complaints and physical activity in minutes per week) collected in 2002, 2010, and 2015, and separately for males and females. Results We observed correlations between higher FFB-Mot scores with better subjective health status (in 2002: males, r = 0.25; females, r = 0.18; in 2010: males, r = 0.29; females, r = 0.28; in 2015: males, r = 0.40), and higher physical activity (in 2002: males, r = 0.24; females, r = 0.25; in 2010: males, r = 0.30; females, r = 0.38; in 2015: females, r = 0.27). Higher FFB-Mot scores were also correlated with lower back pain (in 2002: males, r = -0.23; females, r = -0.25; in 2010: females, r = -0.22), less physical complaints (in 2002: males, r = -0.36; females, r = -0.24), and better physician-rated health status (in 2002: males, r = -0.41; females, r = -0.29, 2010: males, r = -0.38; females, r = -0.44; in 2015: males, r = -0.47). Conclusions Our results suggest that the FFB-Mot to assess fitness in adults has predictive validity for health-related outcomes as indicated by significant correlations, albeit some effect sizes are small. The FFB-Mot may be used as one-time assessment of self-reported fitness, or for repeated testing to assess change of self-reported fitness over time and in different settings (e.g., public health research).

Sports activity is generally considered to be beneficial to health. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle. Sports activities significantly affect the cardiovascular system. A number of studies show that they significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease as well as decrease cardiovascular mortality. This review discusses changes in various cardiovascular parameters in athletes - vagotonia/bradycardia, hypertrophy of heart, ECG changes, blood pressure, and variability of cardiovascular parameters. Because of its relationship to the cardiovascular system, VO2max, which is widely used as an indicator of cardiorespiratory fitness, is also discussed. The review concludes with a discussion of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative stress, particularly in relation to changes in the cardiovascular system in athletes. The review appropriately summarizes the above issues and points out some new implications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A positive perception situation positively increases the person's worthiness, self-confidence and perspective towards time. The current study determined the relationship between the positive perception and social well-being levels of students during the COVID-19 quarantine period. The study group consisted of 236 students, 110 females and 126 males (mean age=21.30±1.99). Positive perception scale and social well-being scale were used. Skewness-kurtosis normality distribution test was used to determine whether the measurements are suitable for normal distribution. Skewness-kurtosis technique showed normal distribution in all dimensions according to the technique. In the analysis of the study data, Pearson product moment correlation analysis with descriptive statistics and multivariate analysis of variance or MANOVA analyzes scores were performed to determine the relationship between positive perception and social well-being. As a result, it is understood that students have over mid-level of positive perception and mid-level social well-being levels. According to the results of the correlation analysis, it was concluded that there was a positive and meaningful relationship between the social well-being and sub-dimensions of the positive perception scale. Abstract The aim of this study was to analyze the relationships among physical cognitive ability, academic performance, and physical fitness regarding age and sex in a group of 187 students (53.48% male, 46.52% female) from one town of Norwest of Jaén, Andalusia (Spain), aged between 9 and 15 years old (M = 11.97, SD = 1.99). The D2 attention test was used in order to analyze selective attention and concentration. Physical fitness, reflected on maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max), was evaluated using the 6 min Walking Test (6MWT). The analysis taken indicated a significant relationship between physical fitness level, attention, and concentration, as in the general sample looking at sex (finding differences between boys and girls in some DA score in almost all age categories [p 0.05). In sum, the present study revealed that students with better aerobic fitness can present better-processed elements and smaller omission errors. Moreover, girls and older students seem to present better cognitive functioning scores than boys and younger. Our findings suggest that more research is necessary to elucidate the cognitive function between ages, sexes, and physical fitness and anthropometry levels of students.

ACROMIOCLAVICULAR joint , *SHOULDER injuries , *X-ray imaging , *SPORTS , *ARTHROSCOPY - Abstract
Introduction: In athletes, acromioclavicular joint disruptions account for up to 50% of all shoulder injuries. In high-grade injuries, surgery is favored to ensure a correct restoration of the joint, especially in young athletes. The aim of this study was to compare the clinical, radiological and sport related outcomes of the arthroscopic stabilization with the fixation of the AC joint in a mini-open approach. Materials and methods: 19 patients treated arthroscopically (ASK) and 26 patients with an acute AC-joint dislocation Rockwood V who had undergone the mini-open (MO) surgery were included. Constant Murley Score (CMS), Taft Score (TS) and the Simple Shoulder Tests (SST) were evaluated. The sports activity level was determined according to Valderrabano and the athlete's recovery of their athletic activity level after surgery according to Rhee. Furthermore, all available X-ray images were analyzed. Results: Patients in the ASK group achieved an average score of 11.7 ± 0.6 points in the SST, 10.3 ± 1.8 points in the TS and 91.2 ± 11.8 points in the CMS. On average, patients in the MO group achieved results of 10.5 ± 1.4 points in the SST, 11.7 ± 0.7 points in the TS and 91.6 ± 9.8 points in the CMS. The ASK group showed significant difference regarding the CC distance in side comparison (Δ = 3.6 mm), whereas no significant difference was found in the MO group (Δ = 0.8 mm). In comparison of both groups, the posterior as well as the combined translation were significantly greater in the ASK group than in the MO group (posterior: ASK: 24.8 mm, MO: 19.3 mm, combined: ASK: 29.1 mm, MO: 20.9 mm). Residual horizontal instability was greater in the ASK group (43%) than in the MO group (32%). Similar results were achieved in sports activity and the recovery of athletic activity (Valderrabano: ASK: 2.8, MO: 2.6; Rhee: ASK: 1.6, MO: 1.5). Conclusions: Both techniques prove to be effective for the stabilization of high-grade AC-joint disruptions in athletes and showed excellent clinical results. From a radiographic standpoint, the mini-open procedure appears superior to the arthroscopic technique. After mini-open surgery postoperative loss of correction is less common and greater horizontal stability is achieved. The results also suggest the mini-open technique is superior to the arthroscopic procedure when aiming to restore the athlete's original level of sports activity. Level of evidence: 1. The aim of this study is to examine the stress levels and happiness levels of the parents of individuals with Down syndrome according to their participation in sports activities. For this purpose, parents' stress and happiness levels were examined in terms of their children's participation in sports activity, sports license status and weekly exercise frequency, parents' physical activity status. A total of 105 parents, 59 mothers and 46 fathers, who had children diagnosed with Down syndrome, participated in the study voluntarily. The data in the study were personal information form, Parental Stress Index Short Form adapted to Turkish by Mert et al. (2008), and Oxford Happiness Questionnaire-Short Form developed by Hills and Argyle (2002) and adapted into Turkish by Doğan and Çötok (2011). was collected using in the analysis of the data, descriptive statistics, independent groups t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and LSD Post Hoc. tests have been used. Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficients were calculated to determine the reliability of the scales. According to the results of the analysis, there is a statistically significant difference between down syndrome individuals' participation in sports activity, sports license status and weekly exercise frequency variables and their parents' parental stress index in all sub-dimensions and their happiness levels (p<0.01). While there is a statistically significant difference between all sub-dimensions and happiness levels of the parental stress index, and physical activity status of the parents (p<0.01). The results showed that the stress levels of the parents of the children who participated in sports activities were lower than those who did not, and their happiness levels were higher; It shows that parents of children who do sports with a license have a lower level of stress and a higher level of happiness than those who do sports without a license. In addition, it can be said that parents who do physical activity have a lower level of stress and a higher level of happiness than parents who do not do physical activity. Finally, it was concluded that the stress levels of the parents of the children with a weekly exercise frequency of less than 3 days were high and the happiness levels were low. The results show that the participation of individuals with Down syndrome in physical activities and exercising regularly three days reduce their parents' stress levels and their happiness levels. Background and Aim: With the spread of the coronavirus and considering the importance of sports activities in the physiological and psychological conditions of people, staying active during this period is of particular importance in preventing the spread of the coronavirus. Therefore, regular exercise has many benefits for health, including improving the performance of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. In this study, the effect of sports activities on the respiratory and cardiovascular systems function during the coronavirus pandemic has been reviewed. Methods: This study was review research. It was done by searching Persian and English articles available in SID, Magiran, CIVILICA, Google Scholar, Science Direct, and PubMed databases by using keywords Sports activities, Respiratory, Cardiovascular, Coronavirus, COVID-19, and their Persian equivalent without a time limit. Out of a total of 83 review articles, 57 articles that met the inclusion criteria were selected and investigated. Results: In December 2019, a virus called the 2019 coronavirus (COVID-19) was first identified in Wuhan, China, and quickly turned into a global pandemic. Respiratory and cardiovascular viral infections account for the highest mortality rate. Many patients with COVID-19 have severe respiratory failure. Also, COVID-19 causes extensive tissue damage in the heart and the infection caused in the heart muscle leads to acute heart attack, cardiovascular failure, and arrhythmia. Therefore, regular sports activity taking into account preventive health measures is considered one of the most important factors in dealing with coronavirus infections. Conclusion: Based on the studies, it seems that doing regular sports activity of moderate intensity can strengthen the body's immune system and reduce the risk of viral infections in the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. However, sports activity of high intensity or for a long time causes harmful effects and weakens the body's immune system, and increases the risk of respiratory and cardiovascular infections during the coronavirus pandemic. Background: Physical activity is a significant health promotion behaviour. COVID-19 pandemic mitigation measures, such as reducing social contact, closing sports facilities and working from home offices, may make it more difficult to engage in regular physical activity. Methods: The data collected between July and October 2021 from the nationally representative study German Health Update (GEDA 2021) were used. The activity behaviour is described by the change in the amount of sports activity as well as the amount of physical active transport (walking/cycling) since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The sample comprises 2,985 participants aged 18 and older. Results: A quarter of the population reduced their sports activity compared to before the COVID-19 pandemic, while 12% increased their sports activity and 38% reported no change. In terms of physical active transport, it shows that 15% reduced the amount, 17% increased it and 55% maintained it. Compared to younger adults, older adults were more likely to maintain their activity behaviour rather than reduce or increase it. Conclusion: Even before the pandemic, physical inactivity was common among the population. The high proportion of adults who reduced their sports activity during the pandemic underlines the need for effective measures to promote physical activity.

Abstract Background No reports have been published about participation in sports activity and subjective health status after total hip arthroplasty via the anterolateral approach in the supine position (ALS-THA) in Japanese patients. This study assessed sports activity participation and subjective health status, as well as factors potential associated with these variables, in patients who underwent ALS-THA. Methods Of 698 patients who underwent total hip arthroplasty at our institution between 2013 and 2018, questionnaires were sent to 355 patients under 80 years old who had undergone ALS-THA and 242 responded. Patients were asked about their subjective health status, participation in sports activity, the EuroQol 5-dimensions 5-level (EQ-5D-5L), the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) activity scale score and the Forgotten Joint Score (FJS). Patient characteristics and hospitalization information were also collected. Patients’ subjective health status was categorized as “healthy” or “unhealthy”. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to determine factors associated with participation in sports activity after ALS-THA and a “healthy” status. Results The pre- and postoperative sports activity participation rates were 54.0% and 57.8%, respectively. Most patients (76.8%, n = 182) were considered “healthy”. Background: There are few sports-specific knee functional scales in the Arabic language. The Knee Outcome Survey–Sports Activities Scale (KOS-SAS) is a validated sports-specific patient-reported outcome measure that assesses knee function in an athletic population. Purpose: To provide a validated Arabic version of the KOS-SAS (KOS-SAS-Ar) while achieving cross-cultural adaptation for use in an Arabic-speaking population with sports-related knee disorders. Study Design: Cohort study (diagnosis); Level of evidence, 2. Methods: There were 2 independent translators who conducted a forward translation of the KOS-SAS, followed by a backward translation by different translators. Subsequently, researchers and expert invitees judged the conceptual content and cultural adaptations of the final translation. A total of 276 patients completed the KOS-SAS-Ar as well as the International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) subjective assessment of knee function and a visual analog scale (VAS) for pain. Statistical analysis was performed for test-retest reliability, convergent validity, construct validity, and factor analysis. Results: The test-retest reliability of the KOS-SAS-Ar was high (r = 0.9). The items of the KOS-SAS-Ar had statistically significant internal consistency, with a Cronbach alpha of.924 (P <.0001). The KOS-SAS-Ar Symptoms subscore correlated with the VAS pain score (P <.0001), and the KOS-SAS-Ar Functional Limitations subscore correlated with the IKDC subjective score (P <.0001). The construct validity of the KOS-SAS-Ar was satisfactory (Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin value = 0.868; Bartlett test: P <.0001). Factor analysis showed a statistical correlation among the 11 items of the KOS-SAS-Ar. Conclusion: The KOS-SAS-Ar demonstrated favorable reliability and validity, and it appears to be a suitable tool for Arabic-speaking patients with sports-related knee conditions. TRICUSPID valve diseases , *MITRAL valve , *CARDIAC arrest , *ATHLETES , *ATHLETE training - Abstract
Observing mitral or tricuspid valve disease in an athlete raises many considerations for the clinician. Initially, the etiology must be clarified, with causes differing depending on whether the athlete is young or a master. Notably, vigorous training in competitive athletes leads to a constellation of structural and functional adaptations involving cardiac chambers and atrioventricular valve systems. In addition, a proper evaluation of the athlete with valve disease is necessary to evaluate the eligibility for competitive sports and identify those requiring more follow-up. Indeed, some valve pathologies are associated with an increased risk of severe arrhythmias and potentially sudden cardiac death. Traditional and advanced imaging modalities help clarify clinical doubts, allowing essential information about the athlete's physiology and differentiating between primary valve diseases from those secondary to training-related cardiac adaptations. Remarkably, another application of multimodality imaging is evaluating athletes with valve diseases during exercise to reproduce the sport setting and better characterize the etiology and valve defect mechanism. This review aims to analyze the possible causes of atrioventricular valve diseases in athletes, focusing primarily on imaging applications in diagnosis and risk stratification. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
"Athlete's heart" is a spectrum of morphological, functional, and regulatory changes that occur in people who practice regular and longterm intense physical activity. The morphological characteristics of the athlete's heart may overlap with some structural and electrical cardiac diseases that may predispose to sudden cardiac death, including inherited and acquired cardiomyopathies, aortopathies and channelopathies. Overdiagnosis should be avoided, while an early identification of underlying cardiac life-threatening disorders is essential to reduce the potential for sudden cardiac death. A step-by-step multimodality approach, including a first-line evaluation with personal and family history, clinical evaluation, 12-lead resting electrocardiography (ECG), followed by second and third-line investigations, as appropriate, including exercise testing, resting and exercise echocardiography, 24-hour ECG Holter monitoring, cardiac magnetic resonance, computed tomography, nuclear scintigraphy, or genetic testing, can be determinant to differentiate between extreme physiology adaptations and cardiac pathology. In this context, cardiovascular imaging plays a key role in detecting structural abnormalities in athletes who fall into the grey zone between physiological adaptations and a covert or early phenotype of cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationships among physical cognitive ability, academic performance, and physical fitness regarding age and sex in a group of 187 students (53.48% male, 46.52% female) from one town of Norwest of Jaén, Andalusia (Spain), aged between 9 and 15 years old (M = 11.97, SD = 1.99). The D2 attention test was used in order to analyze selective attention and concentration. Physical fitness, reflected on maximal oxygen uptake (VO
2max ), was evaluated using the 6 min Walking Test (6MWT). The analysis taken indicated a significant relationship between physical fitness level, attention, and concentration, as in the general sample looking at sex (finding differences between boys and girls in some DA score in almost all age categories [p < 0.05]) and at age category (finding some differences between the younger age category groups and the older age category groups in some DA scores (p < 0.05), not finding any significant interaction between sex and age category (p > 0.05). ACHILLES tendon , *ANKLE joint , *SPORTS participation , *TENDONS , *PHYSICAL activity , *ATHLETES - Abstract
Purpose: Tendons adapt to loads affecting them by changing tendons' mechanical and morphological properties. The aim of the study was to investigate the influence of involvement in sport activities in the form of CrossFit training by individuals of different age upon the mechanical properties of Achilles tendon. Methods: 231 people participated in the study. One group consisted of subjects who trained CrossFit as amateurs, the other group comprised subjects who were not physically active. Achilles tendon was studied for various positions of the ankle joint: 0° DF/PF, 10° DF, 20° DF, 20° PF and 40° PF. The following mechanical and viscoelastic tendon properties were measured using MyotonPRO: frequency [Hz], stiffness [N/m], decrement [log], relaxation time [ms] and creep [De]. The results have been compared in reference to physical activity, BMI, age and length of training history. Results: Both the tension and stiffness increased with degree of Achilles tendon stretching and decreased as it contracted. Higher values have been noted in the group of people in training and with higher BMI values. The elasticity of Achilles tendon decreased with plantar flexion increase. Lower elasticity has been recorded in the group in training and with higher BMI. No significant influence of age and length of training history upon the parameters achieved has been noted. Conclusions: The specificity of CrossFit training and accompanying mechanical load result in development of adaptation changes in Achilles tendon, in the form of its higher tone/tension and stiffness, as well as lower elasticity. The aim of the research is to structure a scale of the reality of sports activity in the directorates of student activities for the universities of the Middle Euphrates, as well as to identify the reality of sports activity in these directorates, and the descriptive approach was followed in the two survey methods and the case study, and the research community was represented by the coaches of the sports teams for male and female students in the directorates of student activities for the universities of the Euphrates. The middle school consisted of (150) male and female coaches for various sports, and the research sample of (40) male and female coaches was randomly selected. The researchers used tools for data collection or measurement (sources, references, questionnaire, personal interview, test and measurement), and a scale was prepared for the reality of sports activity in the student activities directorates of the Middle Euphrates universities. It was distributed to a sample of (100) male and female coaches. Although there are stadiums and sports halls in the student activities directorates of the Middle Euphrates Universities, they are not sufficient for the purpose. And that the most expensive ones are not suitable for practicing sports activity, whether for training or for holding matches, in addition to the weak sports activity programs in the student activities directorates of the Middle Euphrates universities, as they are not satisfactory to the ambition of most coaches, due to weak participation and interaction, and one of the most important recommendations is the need to pay attention to stadiums and sports halls because they are the pillar The basic and first pillar of sports activity programs, and because it represents the element of attraction and enticement for students’ affiliation with university teams, as well as the selection of efficient sports elements that have high academic achievement and previous field experience and full-time training for university teams, which in turn is reflected in the development of sports activity in the directorates of university student activities.

TOTAL knee replacement , *PATIENT reported outcome measures , *SPORTS participation , *FUNCTIONAL status , *ARTIFICIAL knees - Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess (1) sports participation and preference for the type of sports activity after TKA, (2) mid-term functional outcome and activity level, (3) correlation of different age groups with activity level and functional outcomes, and (4) mid-term survivorship of the prosthesis. Methods: A retrospective review of prospectively collected data was performed. 182 patients were included who underwent primary TKA between January 2010 and December 2016. Inclusion criteria were symptomatic knee osteoarthritis, age 50–90 years, and with a minimum of 5-year follow-up after TKA. Patients with rheumatoid arthritis and revision TKA were excluded. Sports participation and sports preference, Oxford Knee Score (OKS), Tegner Activity Level, and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) for pain were recorded pre- and postoperatively at 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, and 5 years. The patient cohort was subdivided according to age groups; activity levels, patient-reported outcomes, and improvement in knee pain were correlated with these age groups. Kaplan–Meier curves were used to investigate survivorship at a minimum of 5 years. Results: The mean age of the cohort was 75.6 ± 7.2 years (range 52–89). Significant improvement was noted in sports participation (p < 0.003). After TKA, there was no change in the preference for sports and none of the patients had to discontinue their sporting activity. OKS improved significantly at all follow-up time points compared to the preoperative score (p <.0001). Patients' sports and physical activity improved significantly at 1 year compared to the preoperative activity level (p < 0.001). Although the Tegner activity level improved over time, this improvement was not significant (NS), while it was significantly higher in males than in females (p < 0.004). Significant improvement was found in the VAS for pain at all follow-up time points compared to the preoperative score (p <.0001). Survivorship was found to be 100% at a 5-year follow-up. Conclusion: After TKA, patients can be able to return to sporting activity or even perform better than before surgery. Maximum improvement was noted in the first post-operative year. The male and younger groups perform better than the female and older groups. Sports and physical activity do not negatively impact survivorship of the knee prosthesis at mid-term follow-up and all patients are encouraged to take up sports participation after their TKA. Level of evidence: Level 3. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

IMPLANTABLE cardioverter-defibrillators ,CARDIAC arrest ,DEFIBRILLATORS ,SUDDEN death prevention ,VENTRICULAR arrhythmia ,CLINICAL trials - Abstract
The subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (S-ICD) is an established therapy for the prevention of sudden cardiac death (SCD) and an alternative to a transvenous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator system in selected patients. Beyond randomized clinical trials, many observational studies have described the clinical performance of S-ICD across different subgroups of patients. Our review aimed to describe the opportunities and drawbacks of the S-ICD, focusing on their use in special populations and across different clinical settings. The choice to implant S-ICD should be based on the patient's tailored approach, which takes into account the adequate S-ICD screening at rest or during stress, the infective risk, the ventricular arrhythmia susceptibility, the progressive nature of the underlying disease, the work or sports activity, and the risk of lead-related complications.
