Background: In the context of rising noncommunicable diseases, Chinese authorities emphasize the need for local governments to provide public sports services to support physical activity (PA). Methods: Employing a socioecological theoretical framework, and drawing on a hierarchical data set synthesized from the China Health and Nutrition Survey, China Stock Market & Accounting Research Database, and Wind Financial Terminal from 2015, a multilevel analysis of the association between provincial government expenditure on culture, sports, and media from 12 provinces, the recreation facilities provided by 287 communities, and PA of n = 10,305 individuals is performed. The number of, and time allocated to, PAs undertaken as well as their METs equivalent in relation to World Health Organization guidelines are investigated. Results: Controlling for a large set of individual confounders, the results show that community recreation facilities and provincial government expenditure have a significant positive association with PA participation that exceeds health guidelines. Conclusions: The results confirm the importance of government support for sport and the provision of community sport and PA facilities in China. This has implications for public health policy generally including the Western context. It remains, however, that the cultural context of engagement also needs further consideration. Purpose: The current study aimed to determine the effect of a synthetic-grass sport surface on core body temperature, skin temperature, heart rate, thermal sensation, thermal comfort, and rating of perceived exertion (RPE) during intermittent exercise in hot conditions. Methods: Using a randomized crossover design, 13 trained/developmental team-sport athletes completed two 50-minute standardized intermittent running protocols on a synthetic and a natural-grass surface, on separate days (control-condition air temperature 32.6 °C [1.3 °C], relative humidity 43.2% [5.3%]). Results: Final skin temperature was significantly higher on synthetic compared with natural grass at the calf (40.1 °C [2.5 °C] vs 33.4 °C [0.6 °C]; P <.001), shoulder (36.6 °C [1.7 °C] vs 33.7 °C [0.7 °C]; P <.001), and chest (33.2 °C [1.1 °C] vs 31.8 °C [1.2 °C]; P =.02). Thermal sensation (median: 2.3; interquartile range [0.5] vs 2.2 [0.5], P =.03) and sweat rate (1.5 [0.4] L·h−1 vs 1.2 [0.3] L·h−1; P =.02) were also significantly higher on synthetic grass. While final core body temperature was significantly higher on the natural than synthetic grass (38.4 °C [0.3 °C] vs 38.2 °C [0.4 °C]), there were no significant differences in delta core temperature, as well as heart rate, thermal comfort, or RPE. Conclusions: Higher skin temperatures, thermal sensation, and sweat rates suggest that exercising on synthetic grass in hot conditions may increase some markers of heat strain during exercise. Professional sport facility sustainability initiatives offer sport organizations an opportunity to demonstrate congruence with societal concern for the environment, an effort that also affects stadia revenue generation. Guided by diffusion of innovations theory, this study harnessed diffusion modeling and logistic regression to determine how quickly renewable energy source adoption is diffusing across 175 professional sport stadia in the United States and Canada and the factors catalyzing early renewable energy source adoption. Results revealed 86 (49%) facilities adopted at least one type of renewable energy source, with solar emerging as the predominant technology adopted (68 total adoptions). Full diffusion for renewable source adoption was predicted for 2061 (p =.0094, q = 0.1404, root mean square error = 3.25, mean absolute error = 2.51), while not all renewable energy sources were predicted to fully diffuse (wind; p =.0117, q = −0.0710, root mean square error =.853, mean absolute error = 0.675). New stadia construction during the time of adoption, facility type, and geographical social systems emerged as significant factors catalyzing adoption in the early majority. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Anthropogenic environments such as wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) and landfills are sources of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Black-headed gulls (Chroicocephalus ridibundus) frequently use WWTPs and may be vectors for AMR. We used GPS tracking data for 39 gulls for up to 8 months, combined with a shedding curve, to study sources and dispersal distances of AMR in Iberia. The gulls used 21 different WWTPs (684 visits) and three landfills (21 visits). Areas of high risk of AMR dissemination were an average of 25 km from the infection source, with a maximum of 500 km. Solar saltworks and natural waterbodies were particularly exposed to AMR dissemination, followed by agriculture, sports facilities, and tourist beaches. There was important variability between individual gulls in their habitat specialization, and which WWTPs they visited. Studying the spatial movements of gulls after visiting WWTPs and landfills helps pinpoint sensitive locations where pathogen transmission is most likely. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: Evaluate the effects that Prudential Center events had on crime in downtown Newark from 2007 to 2015 in terms of incident counts and spatial characteristics. Methods: We evaluate the effects of events held at the Prudential Center on crime counts via negative binomial regression. Through the Fasano-Franceschini test, we assess whether crimes that occurred during events spatially differ compared to the incidents in no-event hours. Finally, we employ logistic regression to assess the correlation between crime locations and activity at the center. Results: Five event types (out of nine) are statistically associated with increases in crime. Spatially, differences in the distribution of incidents when the facility is active partially emerge. Two out of six location types (streets and parking lots) correlate with activity at the center. Conclusions: The complex array of crime-related effects that the center has on downtown Newark suggests tailored policies discriminating between event and location types for enhancing public safety. This research provides a comprehensive view of the geolocation of physical health assets in the city of Tarragona (Spain) and how these assets are used and recommended by healthcare professionals to promote healthy lifestyles. Focusing on the distribution and accessibility of sports facilities, such as outdoor gyms or football and basketball courts, this study highlights the importance of these assets in leading a healthy life and preventing chronic diseases. This article investigates the availability of these assets and their prescription by healthcare professionals to improve people's quality of life through surveys and fieldwork. It evaluates both the knowledge healthcare professionals have about these available assets in the area and the types of physical activity they prescribe. The results show significant variability in the availability of physical health assets across different neighbourhoods. However, most residents have good walking access to these assets, especially in the central and western parts of the city. This study concludes that while physical health assets are an underutilised resource for healthcare professionals, enhancing the awareness and prescription of these assets could improve public health outcomes, particularly for older adults. The main impact of rapid urbanization is the breakdown of the service distribution system and the failure of the urban service system. With the growing importance of service activities in urban areas, the necessity for advancement in urban planning has arisen. Specifically, service centers and accessibility to these centers are among the crucial factors to be considered. Adopting the creative city approach is also a strategic way to effectively utilize service spaces within the city. The issue of how to distribute service centers and how to access the services they provide has become increasingly important. The application of the creative city approach can also be seen as a strategy for the appropriate utilization of service land in the city. This research aims to investigate the distribution of sports facilities in the city of Sari using the creative city approach, with the goal of enhancing the utilization of sports spaces by the citizens of Sari. Given the purpose and components of the research, the research design is applied, and the research method used is descriptive-analytical, in line with the nature of the work. The research specifically focuses on the distribution of sports facilities in Sari from the perspective of the creative city strategy. The data for the research were collected through library and documentary research, interviews, field observations, and a researcher-developed questionnaire. The questionnaire was distributed to 400 users of sports facilities in the neighborhoods of Sari, and consisted of 31 items across 6 dimensions. The collected data was analyzed using statistical software such as SPSS and PLS. The findings indicate a positive and significant relationship between the distribution of sports facilities in Sari and the dimensions of social, sports, cultural, physical, communication, and entrepreneurial aspects. Additionally, a positive and significant relationship was found between each dimension and its respective criteria, with a GOF index of 0.611. Based on these findings, it is recommended that urban managers incorporate the opinions and suggestions of citizens in the development of sports plans. Many sports organisations operate as non-profits, but the emphasis and role of for-profits in this sector cannot be avoided. Today, sports activities are connected to the business sector and generate profit, hence, sports sector is a decisive part of the economy. Sport profile companies differ in their organisational strategy formulation approach. The main focus was to learn more about their strategy approach and market behaviour. 350 sports business organisations were involved in a survey of 3,248 companies, and the Chi-square test, variance analysis, and principal component analysis were applied to the sample. Results showed that 75.7% of the responding sports companies had no written strategic plan. The availability of written strategies seemed to depend on the organisation's scale. The market-following behaviour was confirmed in the case of smaller sports enterprises. Fitness service providers appeared to follow a market-leading behaviour. Growth, investment, and development naturally emerged as essential factors for companies with higher sales revenue and operating sports facilities, and they were relatively less important in sports goods production and trade. Introduction: This study examines the relationship between physical activity and mental wellbeing among students not playing any sport ("couch potatoes"), recreational athletes and "dual career students", i.e., students who are at the same time elite athletes. It addresses three closely related, yet different questions: (i) Do couch potatoes, recreational and elite athletes differ in their level of affective well-being or happiness? (ii) Are there any differences in cognitive wellbeing or life satisfaction between these groups? and (iii) Are there any differences in risk preferences and attitudes? Methods: In our empirical analysis, we use a large cross-section dataset with detailed information on nearly 4,700 students enrolled at 24 different universities and universities of applied sciences all over Germany to identify the relationship between the individuals' personalities and their life satisfaction and risk preferences using standard regression models. Results: Our findings indicate that, first, elite athletes report higher levels of happiness and life satisfaction than recreational athletes and couch potatoes. Second, both groups of athletes display higher levels of risk tolerance than couch potatoes. Third, and most important, we find significant personality differences between elite athletes and the other two groups of students that drive most, yet not all of our results. Discussion: Since dual career students are often role models for other students, universities should consider investing in their sports facilities and offering sports classes on campus to increase the athletic involvement of the general student body. With the recent introduction of artificial turf outfield playing surfaces in community-level cricket, this paper presents the physical performance and injury-related perceptions of male, senior cricketers. Following validity and reliability testing, 43 cricketers from two clubs completed a questionnaire comprising three sections: demographic information; individual performance; and injury risk and severity. Descriptive variables were computed, and chi-square tests were conducted to identify differences in perceptions based on the field type that players were exposed to and their injury status. Most players preferred artificial turf for training (53.7%) and wet/rainy conditions (64.1%), but natural grass for competitive games (67.4%) and dry conditions (69.0%). There were significant differences in perceptions for game speed (p < 0.001), the need to be fitter (p = 0.015), and the overall physical performance quality based on injury status (p = 0.017) and field (p < 0.021). Skin injuries were the only injuries that were reported as more likely on artificial turf. In general, players did not feel that the technical and physical performance aspects of cricket were affected when playing on artificial turf compared to natural grass. However, the field type that players were exposed to significantly influenced their perceptions and highlights the importance of artificial turf composition for future adoption in cricket. The quality of sports facilities, especially football pitches, has gained significant attention due to the growing importance of sports globally. This study examines the effect of two different cutting systems, a traditional ride-on mower and an autonomous mower, on the quality and functional parameters of a municipal football field. The analysis includes visual assessments, measurements of grass height, and evaluations of surface hardness, comparing the performance of the two cutting systems. Additionally, studies of turfgrass composition and machine learning techniques, particularly with YOLOv8s and YOLOv8n, are conducted to test the capability of assessing weed and turfgrass species distribution. The results indicate significant differences in grass color based on the position (5.36 in the corners and 3.69 in the central area) and surface hardness between areas managed with a traditional ride-on mower (15.25 Gmax) and an autonomous mower (10.15 Gmax) in the central region. Higher height values are recorded in the area managed with the ride-on mower (2.94 cm) than with the autonomous mower (2.61 cm). Weed presence varies significantly between the two cutting systems, with the autonomous mower demonstrating higher weed coverage in the corners (17.5%). Higher overall performance metrics were obtained through YOLOv8s. This study underscores the importance of innovative management practices and monitoring techniques in optimizing the quality and playability of a football field while minimizing environmental impact and management efforts. Trichloramine is a disinfection by-product in chlorinated swimming pools. It can evaporate into the air and irritate eyes and airways among swimmers and pool workers. This study aimed to evaluate airborne concentrations of trichloramine in different types of indoor swimming pools. Altogether, 72 swimming pools across Sweden were included; 36 exercise pools, 16 instruction pools, seven adventure pools, and 13 rehabilitation pools. In total, 167 sampling sessions were performed with the majority (N = 91) conducted in public exercise pools. Repeated sampling sessions on different days were performed within all pool categories. Airborne trichloramine was measured stationary by the poolside using active sampling on quartz filters. In total, 434 air samples were collected. The geometric mean (GM) concentration of trichloramine for the exercise pools was 0.12 mg/m3 (range GMpool: 0.02–0.29 mg/m3) and for about 30% the GMpool exceeded the Swedish public health guideline value (0.2 mg/m3). The geometric mean for instruction pools was 0.18 mg/m3 and for adventure pools 0.20 mg/m3. Trichloramine concentrations were statistically significantly lower in rehabilitation pools (GM: 0.03 mg/m3) compared with the other pool categories. A statistically significant effect of time of the day for sampling was found for the exercise and instruction pools, with higher trichloramine levels during evenings compared with mornings and afternoons. For the rehabilitation pools, trichloramine was significantly higher during the cold season compared with the warm season. Variability in trichloramine concentrations was attributed to between-pool as well as within-pool variances. The within-pool variability encourages a repeated sampling strategy to capture the variation between different days. These findings have implications for exposure assessment in epidemiological studies as well as for indoor air quality monitoring. Trichloramine can cause acute irritative effects at elevated levels, and since trichloramine concentrations may differ depending on the time of the day it is recommended that full-day stationary measurements are supplemented with short-term samplings to capture these variations. Research shows that smoking persists in sports clubs with smoke-free policies (SFPs). It is unknown to what extent smoking occurs at such clubs and how much that may differ from clubs without SFPs. This study aimed to determine whether and to what extent smoking differs at Dutch football clubs with and without SFPs. This cross-sectional study used a purposive sampling method to compare smoking indicators at 117 Dutch football clubs, with 49 clubs (41.8%) having an SFP. Using a standardised checklist, three smoking indicators were observed (number of people smoking, smoking facilities, and cigarette butts) and combined in a total smoking score (scale 0–9). Multi-level linear regression analysis was used to analyse the association between club SFP, local tobacco control policies (TCPs), and smoking indicators. Significantly fewer smoking facilities were present at clubs with an SFP (−2.35, 95% confidence interval [CI]: −3.61; −1.09), but no significant associations were found between SFP and the number of people smoking and cigarette butts. The total smoking score was 1.74 points lower for clubs with an SFP (95% CI: −2.53; −0.96) and 1.85 points lower for clubs in municipalities with strong local TCPs (95% CI: −2.98; −0.72). Strong local TCPs were associated with significantly fewer people smoking at clubs (−1.79, 95% CI: −3.41; −0.17). SFPs at sports clubs succeed in limiting the number of smoking facilities but do not show differences in terms of smoking rates or smoking-related litter when compared to clubs without SFPs. Our results highlight the need for enhancing implementation of comprehensive SFPs, including clear guidelines for compliance and enforcement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Since the turn of the millennium, the practice of sport has changed significantly as more and more people leave club sports in favor of self-organized sports. A common feature of this change is the need of other spatial conditions than traditional sport facilities. Simultaneously, self-organized sports have largely been overlooked within policy and programs seeking to improve today's sport facilities. The aim of this narrative review is therefore to provide a comprehensive understanding of self-organized sports and their social-spatial needs. From the databases SCOPUS, SportDiscus and ProQuest Social Sciences 66 articles are linked together for reinterpretation and development of three theoretical discussions that are accompanied by Deleuze's philosophy of immanence: The flatness, motion, and the responsivity of self-organized sports. Taking these theoretical aspects into account, it is concluded that self-organized sports need not fully defined places open for unpredictable encounters and that enable speculations of what can be created. Little is known about older adults' physical exercise destinations. We studied associations between physical activity (PA) level and physical exercise destinations (total number and surrounding environment) in community-dwelling 75- to 85-year-old adults living in Central Finland. Participants (N = 901) reported the amount of at least moderate-intensity PA and physical exercise destinations. Distance from home, land use, and locations of sport facilities were defined using a geographic information system. A general linear model showed that older adults with higher PA reported higher numbers of physical exercise destinations and destinations further away from home than those reporting lower PA. Binary logistic regression showed that higher PA increased the odds of reporting a distant destination identified as a sports facility and of reporting destinations located in residential, service, forest, and water body areas, respectively. In the era of globalization, athlete achievement is very important for a country or sports institution, whether in the form of medals, records, or positions in championships, which are also measured by increasing achievement. It is important for institutions or organizations to be able to maintain the achievements of athletes that have been achieved. This study has the following objectives: determine the impact of work allowances and sports facilities on motivation and athlete achievement under the auspices of the Jember Regency Youth and Sports Office. The population in this study was 399 athletes from 35 sports branches in the Jember Regency Dispora. The number of samples was determined by as many as 150 respondents. Data analysis used SEM with WarpPLS 7.0. The results of this study indicate that the work allowance variable has a positive and significant effect on motivation. The sports facility variable has a positive effect on motivation but is not significant. The work allowances variable does not have a significant effect on athlete achievement. The sports facilities variable has a positive and significant effect on athlete achievement. The motivation variable has a positive and significant effect on the achievement of athletes from the Jember Regency Diaspora. The work allowances variable has a positive and significant effect on the achievement of athletes from the Jember Regency Dispora through motivation. The sports facilities variable has a positive effect on the athlete achievement of athletes from Jember Regency through motivation. The practical implications that can be contributed from this study are that sports facilities do not affect motivation but do affect achievement. Work allowances contribute to motivation but do not affect athlete achievement. Therefore, sports facilities must improve their benefits for motivation to achieve more. Work allowances also need to be improved so that athlete retention increases.

Abstract The sustainable development of sports facilities and their integration with the ecological environment are crucial in addressing global environmental challenges. This study examines the coupling coordination between sports facilities and the ecological environment in nine prefecture-level cities in Fujian Province, China, from 2013 to 2020, within the framework of China’s “Dual Carbon” strategy. Using a multidisciplinary approach that integrates economics, sociology, and geography, the study employs the entropy method and coupling coordination models to analyze the temporal evolution and spatial distribution of the coupling coordination between sports facilities and the ecological environment. The findings reveal that the overall trend of coupling coordination is positive, with the degree of coordination improving over time from severe imbalance in 2013 to high-quality coordination by 2020. Economic factors, such as per capita GDP, positively influence the coupling coordination, while factors like population density and regional GDP have a negative impact. Coastal cities, such as Xiamen and Zhangzhou, demonstrate stronger regional correlations and play a critical role in improving the overall coupling level of the province. This research provides several recommendations for promoting orderly and optimal development, considering the distinct characteristics of sports facilities and the ecological environment.

This research addresses the challenge of enhancing energy efficiency in public buildings while maintaining or improving occupant comfort. With stricter modern energy regulations, many older facilities, such as sports halls built between 1960 and 1980, face the need for renovation to meet current standards. The central research question investigates what measures can be implemented to improve the energy efficiency of sports halls without compromising comfort for the occupants. This study examines strategies, techniques, and possibilities for optimizing energy performance during the rehabilitation of universal sports halls within sports centers. It includes a theoretical and analytical evaluation of various measures in line with existing regulations and thermal comfort requirements. This research uses simulation software, the Integrated Environmental Solutions Virtual Environment, to model different Passive House measures applied to a case study of a sports center built in 1976 in Belgrade. This study provides practical guidelines for enhancing thermal insulation on the building's envelope to achieve energy savings. The application of these measures demonstrates that significant energy savings can be realized by focusing on specific sections of the building, such as the administrative areas, rather than the entire facility. The findings offer valuable insights into energy-optimization strategies for existing sports facilities, highlighting the practical application of measures to improve energy performance in a real-world context. The results contribute to the development of effective renovation practices for older sports buildings, ensuring they meet modern energy efficiency standards while maintaining optimal comfort for users. This study aimed to (i) compare the extent of home-court advantage (HA) and home win percentage (HW) between Spanish basketball leagues across different playing levels (i.e., leagues) and (ii) analyze the influence of team ability on HA and HW within each playing level. We gathered data for game locations and results from open online sources for all games in the First Division (ACB), Second Division (LEB Gold), and Third Division (LEB Silver) Spanish male basketball leagues between 2010–2023. The dataset included 12 seasons, 635 teams (215 First Division, 203, Second Division, and 217 Third Division), and 19,539 games (7075 First Division, 6344 Second Division, and 5520 Third Division). We calculated HA [(total home wins/total wins) * 100] and HW [(total home wins/total home games) * 100] for each team across each season. We performed Kruskal Wallis tests, calculated partial eta squared (η p2), and performed Mann-Whitney U tests with rank biserial correlation (r b ) effect sizes and Dwass-Steel-Critchlow-Fligner pairwise comparisons to compare HA and HW between leagues and between team abilities (low, medium, and/or high) within each league. There was a significant effect for HA between leagues (p =.01) with post hoc comparisons revealing a higher HA for the First Division than for the Third Division (p =.01), but HW was not significantly different between leagues. In turn, variations in HA and HW between team abilities were consistent across playing levels, with HW significantly increasing in a progressive manner with higher team abilities (p <.001) and with HA significantly lower among high-level teams compared to lower-ability team clusters (p <.01). These findings emphasize the importance of considering playing level and team ability and interpreting HA and HW together to contextualize an apparent home advantage in Spanish basketball. The aim of research is to assess the relationship between physical activity, Physical Literacy (PL) and gender among senior students. The research was conducted in 2022 in Lithuania with five city schools. Research participants were selected using a convenience sampling method: grade 10 to 12 (n=287) students 148 boys and 139 girls. A questionnaire survey was used for data collection: Portuguese Physical Literacy Questionnaire for Adolescents (PPLA-Q) to assess the psychological domain of PL (motivation, self-confidence, emotional and physical regulation); Rapid Assessment of Physical Activity (RAPA) Questionnaire - RAPA1 part, which allows to assess the level of physical activity. After analysing the psychological aspects of PL related to physical activity by gender, the obtained results suggest that boys' motivation for physical activity, selfconfidence, emotional stability, assessment of physical limits score higher compared to the group of girls (p<0.01). PA motivation has a strong positive correlation with self-confidence (p<0.01) and a moderate correlation with physical regulation (p<0.01). Physical regulation has statistically significantly correlated with self-confidence (p<0.01) and better emotional regulation (p<0.01). Statistically significant differences by gender were found with all indicators of the psychological domain: PA motivation, self-confidence, emotional regulation, and physical regulation. Mean ranks of boys were higher in all variables; however, the major differences were found in the areas of self-confidence and physical regulation. PA had a direct correlation with all psychological PL elements (PA motivation, self-confidence, emotional regulation, physical regulation) and an inverse correlation with gender. The effects of high intensity functional training (HIFT) on health related components of fitness and quality of life were studied in the gym environment, but there has not been any study on examining the effects of HIFT by using bodyweight exercises at home environment on health related components of fitness and quality of life in women. The goal of this research is to examine the effects of home-based bodyweight HIFT on health related components of physical fitness and quality of life in women. Twenty-one recreationally active female participants (age 26.3 ± 3.7 years) were included in the study. After completing the pretest, participants applied HIFT at home with bodyweight exercises three times a week for a duration of eight weeks. Cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, body composition and quality of life assessments were carried out in both pretest and posttest applications. Significant differences were observed between the pretest and posttest results of cardiovascular endurance (p=0.042), muscular strength (p<0.001), muscular endurance (p<0.001) and flexibility (p=0.001) parameters. No significant difference was observed between the pretest and posttest results of body composition analysis. Significant improvement (p=0.045) was found on the quality of life scale. Home-based bodyweight HIFT altered quality of life in recreationally active women and enhanced health related components of fitness, which could prevent the increase of health-related risk factors caused by inactivity. Despite challenging economic conditions, municipalities have justified the utilization of public subsidies to build or renovate multipurpose sports facilities due to the lack of modern features and the aging of existing facilities. To secure public support for the utilization of public subsidies, promises are often made about the transformative potential of events and teams for the community. The current study aims to examine the relationship between residents' perceived social impact and their behavioral intentions regarding a newly developed multipurpose sports facility. The survey instrument was administered to assess residents' perceived social impacts related to the multipurpose sports facility as well as their behavioral attributes. The findings revealed that perceived social impacts such as community development and economic benefits significantly influenced the attendance of future sports and entertainment events as well as word-of-mouth on sports and entertainment events. Respondents' level of involvement and attendance in sports and entertainment events were significant predictors of positive behavioral intentions and word-of-mouth. Lastly, certain demographic variables indicated significant relationships with behavioral attributes. This study highlights the importance of understanding residents' perceived social impact concerning their behavioral attributes. The findings can be used by policymakers and administrators to plan and execute the facility development using public subsidies, aiming to reduce social conflicts and enhance social cohesion among residents. The sustainable development of sports facilities and their integration with the ecological environment are crucial in addressing global environmental challenges. This study examines the coupling coordination between sports facilities and the ecological environment in nine prefecture-level cities in Fujian Province, China, from 2013 to 2020, within the framework of China’s “Dual Carbon” strategy. Using a multidisciplinary approach that integrates economics, sociology, and geography, the study employs the entropy method and coupling coordination models to analyze the temporal evolution and spatial distribution of the coupling coordination between sports facilities and the ecological environment. The findings reveal that the overall trend of coupling coordination is positive, with the degree of coordination improving over time from severe imbalance in 2013 to high-quality coordination by 2020. Economic factors, such as per capita GDP, positively influence the coupling coordination, while factors like population density and regional GDP have a negative impact. Coastal cities, such as Xiamen and Zhangzhou, demonstrate stronger regional correlations and play a critical role in improving the overall coupling level of the province. This research provides several recommendations for promoting orderly and optimal development, considering the distinct characteristics of sports facilities and the ecological environment. 7 October 2023, marked a significant shift in Israeli football’s commemoration practices. Previously focused on honouring prominent figures by naming sports facilities, these practices have evolved following the Hamas massacres and the Israeli response in Gaza. Football fans who were killed or kidnapped have become central to memorials, as can be seen in the cases of Maccabi Haifa and Maccabi Netanya, the two clubs discussed in this article. However, these commemorations have also sparked tensions, fuelled by club rivalries and occasional racist outbursts. Sports facilities assume the role of housing city culture and transferring this culture to future generations. Sports activities are an important instrument to disseminate supporter culture and to enhance the feeling of unity within a city. It is quite prevalent for a county or region to be associated with sports clubs located in those areas. Fenerbahçe Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium sustains its eminence for Kadıköy region from the past till today as Kadıköy is a very important center of the Asian side of İstanbul in terms of its demographic, cultural, social structure and location. The aim of this research is to report the transformation process of both Fenerbahçe Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium and its surroundings into the modern day which have always been part of the historical structure of the region. The research also encompasses the evaluation of the construction of the stadium, the procedures it has been through, its status in the city and city culture and the dimensions of its economic and social structure in line with the transformation of the city from a different perspective. The urban development of the stadium and Kadıköy is analyzed by marking building densities on different historical maps and satellite photographs of the region from different years. The importance of the stadium in the city holds specific significance in terms of urbanism and social sciences. Geographical location, transportation to the stadium, social life during scheduled sports events and the trade opportunities in the neighborhood which are all very important criteria for stadiums will be evaluated holistically. Purpose: Paying attention to the architecture of football stadiums is considered a significant issue in sports, which has yet to receive less attention in Iran. Considering the presence of teams from northern Iran in the premier league and the specific climatic conditions they face, this research aims to investigate the Factors affecting the development of football stadium architecture in Iran's temperate and humid climate. Method: This research was conducted using a qualitative approach based on phenomenology. Colaizzi's method (1978) was employed to explore the interview data. The study's target population consisted of university faculty members in art and architecture, engineers in sports facilities construction and equipment, and university faculty members in sports management, totalling 18 individuals. The data collection tool was semi-structured interviews. Validity and reliability criteria were used, including credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability. Results: According to the results obtained from the participants' information, the factors influencing the development of football stadium architecture consist of 104 sub-themes categorized into eight main themes. Based on the designers' priorities and the significance of their subindicators, these themes include site, climate, moisture control, design regulations, safety, structure, design ideas, and sustainability. Conclusion: Therefore, designers and relevant managers must pay special attention to the construction of stadiums, which are considered significant and monumental structures in the urban landscape. Childhood overweight and obesity are increasingly prevalent in Pakistan, posing significant public health challenges. This study explores the associations of school-level factors and school sports facility parameters with overweight and obesity among children and adolescents in Pakistan. A cross-sectional study across seven random districts in Punjab province, Pakistan, was conducted using a representative multistage random cluster sample. Underweight (BMI < 5th percentile), overweight (85th ≤ BMI < 95th percentile), and obese (95th percentile ≤ BMI) were defined using the US Center for Disease Control (CDC) 2000 criteria. Statistical analyses including the Chi-square test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and linear regression were performed to investigate predictive characteristics. Logistic regression analysis assessed the simultaneous impact of several covariates on dichotomous outcomes, with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) computed and a significance level set at p < 0.05. The study included 4108 Pakistani school children aged 9 to 17 years (mean age = 13.92 years, 59.3% boys) from 62 schools. The prevalence of overweight and obesity was 19.4% and 10.7%, respectively. Findings revealed a concerning lack of physical education activities (60% reported 0 sessions per week), morning exercise (60%), and classroom exercises (66%) among school-aged children. Leadership attitudes toward physical education (β = 0.04, p = 0.006) and students' satisfaction with the playground (β = 0.05, p = 0.015) showed significant associations with body weight status. Conversely, provision of physical education facilities, effective fund utilization for physical education, meeting school sports facility requirements, and weekend opening of school sports grounds did not significantly impact weight status. Satisfaction with the playground was significantly associated with a lower risk of overweight (OR 0.81, 95% CI 0.69–0.95, p < 0.05), indicating reduced overweight likelihood among students satisfied with school playgrounds. The study underscores significant gaps in promoting physical activity within school environments and highlights the urgent need for interventions to enhance physical education resources and sports facilities, aiming to create healthier school environments and reduce overweight and obesity prevalence among students. The demand for low-carbon and energy-efficient building designs is urgent, especially considering that building energy consumption constitutes a significant part of global energy usage. Unlike small to medium-sized buildings such as residential and office spaces, large public buildings, like sports facilities, have unique usage patterns and architectural forms, offering more significant potential for energy-saving strategies. This review focuses on sports buildings, selecting 62 high-quality papers published in building science over the past 30 years that investigate low-carbon and energy-efficient research. Summarizing and synthesizing these papers reveals that current studies predominantly concentrate on four main areas: indoor air quality, ventilation, thermal environment, and energy consumption. Notably, many studies emphasize improving indoor thermal comfort and reducing energy consumption in sports buildings through measurements and evaluations of indoor thermal environments, temperature distributions, heat transfer phenomena, and energy consumption analyses. Key outcomes indicate that green technology innovations, such as energy substitution technologies, significantly enhance energy efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions. However, present research emphasizes singular energy-saving approaches, suggesting future directions could integrate comprehensive green technologies, life-cycle assessments, and applications of intelligent technologies and the Internet of Things (IoT). These enhancements aim to provide more effective and sustainable solutions for implementing green, low-carbon energy practices in sports buildings. The review emphasizes that in order to accomplish sustainable urban growth and achieve global carbon neutrality targets, a comprehensive approach involving technical innovation, legislative assistance, and extensive preparation is crucial. In the post-pandemic era, outdoor jogging has become an increasingly popular form of exercise due to the growing emphasis on health. It is essential to comprehensively analyze the factors influencing the spatial distribution of outdoor jogging activities and to propose planning strategies with practical guidance. Using multi-source geospatial big data and multiple models, this study constructs a comprehensive analytical framework to examine the association between environmental variables and the frequency of outdoor jogging activities in Guangzhou. Firstly, outdoor jogging trajectory data were collected from a fitness app, and potential influencing factors were selected based on multi-source big data from the perspectives of the built environment, street perception, and natural environment. For example, using the street-view imagery, objective environmental elements such as greenery and subjective elements such as safety perception were extracted from a human-centric perspective. Secondly, the framework included three models: a backward stepwise regression, an optimal parameters-based geographical detector, and a geographically weighted regression (GWR) model. These models served, to screen significant variables, identify the synergistic effects among the variables, and quantify the spatial heterogeneity of the effects, respectively. Finally, the study area was clustered based on the results of the GWR model to propose urban planning strategies with clear spatial positions and practical significance. The results indicated the following: (1) Factors related to the built environment and street perception significantly influence jogging frequency distribution. (2) Public sports facilities, the level of greenery, and safety perception were identified as key factors influencing jogging activities, representing the three aspects of service facilities, objective perception, and subjective perception, respectively. (3) Specifically, the influence of each factor on jogging activities displayed significant spatial variation. For instance, sports facilities and greenery level were positively correlated with jogging frequency in the city center. (4) Lastly, the study area was divided into four clusters, each representing different local associative characteristics between variables and jogging activities. Background: The physical and the social environment are important predictors of healthy weight, especially in low socioeconomic position (SEP) neighborhoods. Many Dutch municipalities have implemented a healthy weight approach (HWA). Yet, there is room for improvement. This system science study examined what influences the utilization of HWA facilities and activities, and what aspects can help to achieve a desired systems change (also called leverage point themes (LPTs)) in the HWA system as perceived by citizens living in low SEP neighborhoods. Method: All research phases were performed with four citizens co-researchers. Forty-seven citizens living in low SEP neighborhoods were semi-structurally interviewed about the neighborhood HWA facilities and municipal HWA activities. A rapid coding qualitative analysis approach was applied per topic. The topics were citizens' healthy living description, personal circumstances, and satisfaction with foot and cycle paths, sports facilities, playgrounds, green spaces, museums and theaters, community centers, churches, healthcare, school, food supplies, contact with neighborhood, unfamiliar and/or unused activities, familiar and used activities, unavailable but desired (lacking) activities, and reaching citizens. Results: The utilization of HWA facilities and activities was influenced by the overarching themes of social cohesion, familiarity, reaching citizens, maintenance, safety, physical accessibility, financial accessibility, social accessibility, fit with personal context, and fit with the neighborhood's specific needs. Different overarching themes stood out across different facilities and activities. LPTs indicated the overarching themes needed in combination with one another for a specific activity or facility to increase utilization. For example, the LPT regarding foot and cycle paths was "accessible, safe, and maintained foot and cycle paths". The LPTs regarding familiar and used activities were "customized activities; information provision (e.g., about possibilities to join without paying); social contact, meeting others, and everyone feels included". Conclusion: Conducting inclusive qualitative research from a systems perspective among citizens living in low SEP neighborhoods has contributed valuable insights into their needs. This enables practical implementation of HWAs by providing a deeper understanding of the LPTs within the HWA system. LPTs can help HWA stakeholders to further develop current HWAs toward systems approaches. Future research could study the leverage points that may contribute to LPT implementation. To develop health promotion (HP) in sports clubs (SCs), stakeholders need to know the HP expectations of sports participants. However, the literature does not provide information on these aspects, which exacerbates the difficulty for SCs to provide an environment, activities and organization that promote health and to play the role entrusted to them in the integration of vulnerable populations. To fill this gap, this study explores the HP expectations and perceptions of sports participants, with a particular focus on ethnocultural characteristics, and documents participants' understanding of HP. A descriptive qualitative study comprising semi-structured interviews was carried out with 22 French and Quebec sports participants. Because they have little experience with HP in their SC, participants do not seem to have many expectations of their SC in terms of HP. Nevertheless, they felt that SCs can play an important role in health and suggested several themes and types of action, such as seminars on nutrition, activities outside the SC to develop cohesion or health monitoring. Sports participants from ethnocultural minorities seem to appreciate the programs designed to integrate them. There is a predominantly physical conception of health and the contribution of SCs to health, and the relationship between the types of health determinants (economic, environmental, organizational and social) and health is not clear. This study shows that the idea of a health-promoting SC appeals to SC participants, but this approach has not yet taken root in this setting or in society as a whole. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Sporting success among nations provides a sense of value and national pride. This paper evaluated the perceptions and experiences of national coaches on the enablers and hindrances of international sporting success by elite athletes from historically disadvantaged areas (HDA) using the SPLISS framework. A qualitative research study design was employed for this study. Ten internationally recognised coaches (46.7 ± 12.9 years) volunteered for the study. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews. A thematic analysis was used to analyse data. Data was analysed using a computer software programme. Governance, organisation and sports policies, coach provision, local/international competition access, bursaries/scholarships and sport volunteerism were perceived as enablers, while lack of financial support, foundation level participation, school sport, athlete retention, sports facilities, reliable transport system and scientific support were perceived to be hindrances to sporting success. The findings highlight the need for policymakers to oversee and ensure a systemic governance approach with an integrated sports support system and effective policies, institutions and strategic planning, coupled with an adequate budget allocation in support of this system to facilitate elite sports success. Background: Compelling evidence suggests that schools' infrastructure and policy represent potential predictors of health and physical activity (PA) in children and adolescents. However, the translation of these findings into practice has not been examined. This study investigated the activity friendliness of Austrian schools. Methods: Using a census sampling method, principals of Austrian schools (n = 342) were invited to participate in an online survey assessing 1) the availability of PA facilities (e.g. playgrounds, sports courts, swimming halls) and 2) applied PA policies (e.g. cooperation with sports clubs and involvement in PA projects). Results: A total of 130 principals answered the survey which corresponds to a minimal response rate of 38%. While most schools (87.4%, n = 111) had a gymnastic hall, only one third (37%, n = 47) had access to a swimming hall. On average, the schools had 4.2 ± 2 PA facilities with significant variation between school types (i.e., high schools: 5 ± 2 vs. primary schools: 3.5 ± 2, p < 0.05). The most common facilities were meadow areas (89%, n = 113), sports fields (71.7%, n = 91), and playgrounds (64.6%, n = 82). Almost half of the schools were part of a PA project (e.g. "active break", 45%, n = 56) and offered extracurricular PA programs and courses (54%, n = 67), but only one in five (22%, n = 27) regularly conducted fitness tests. PA policies varied between school types (p < 0.05) but almost all principals (94%, n = 117) would welcome a stronger promotion of activity friendliness at their school. Conclusion: Schools are mostly activity-friendly regarding infrastructure although the limited possibilities for swimming lessons seem worrisome.
