Solid adsorbents with precise surface structural chemistry and porosity are of immense interest to decode the structure-property relationships and maintain an energy-intensive path while achieving high activity and durability. In this work, we reported a series of amine-modified zeolites and their CO2 capture efficiencies. The amine impregnated molecular zeolite compounds were characterized and systematically investigated for CO2 adsorption capacity through thermogravimetric analysis for the occurrence of atmospheric pure CO2 gas at 75 °C with diethylenetriamine (DETA), ethylenediamine (EDA), monoethanolamine (MEA), and triethanolamine (TEA)-loaded zeolite 13X, 4A, and 5A adsorbents. The kinetics of the adsorption study indicated that the adsorption capacity for CO2 adsorption was improved with amine loading up to a certain concentration over 13X-DETA-40, showing an adsorption capacity of 1.054 mmol of CO2 per gram of zeolite in a very short amount of time. The result was especially promising in terms of the initial adsorption capacity of zeolite, which adsorbed approximately 0.8 mmol/g zeolite within the first two minutes of experimentation. A detailed flow chart that includes a brief look into the process adopted for adsorption was included. Lagergren pseudo-first- and pseudo-second-order models of 40 wt % DETA zeolite 13X gave CO2 adsorption capacities of 1.055 and 1.058 mmol/g and also activation energies of 86 and 76 kJ/mol, respectively. The CO2 adsorption capacity of 13X-DETA-40 in a lab-scale reactor was found to be 1.69 mmol/g. A technoeconomic study was conducted for the solid amine zeolites to understand the investment per ton of CO2 adsorbed. This study was used as a basis to improve cost estimates from a microscale to a lab-scale reactor. The cost of investment for 13X-DETA-40 was reduced by 84% from $49,830/ton CO2 adsorbed in a microscale reactor to $7,690/ton of CO2 adsorbed in a lab-scale reactor.

Here, we report a fine-tuned donor-π-acceptor concept based zinc-porphyrin-sensitized TiO2 photocatalyst for the application in photochemical hydrogen evolution. The newly designed system showed unprecedented photocatalytic activity. The molecular structure comprises of 3-ethynyl phenothiazine as a donor moiety, porphyrin as a π-spacer, and either 3-(4-(benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazol-4-yl)phenyl)-2-cyanoacrylic acid (LG-22) or 3-(4-(benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazol-4-yl)thiophene-2-yl)-2- cyanoacrylic acid (LG-23) as an acceptor attached at meso-position of the zinc-porphyrin. Superior hydrogen generation efficiency has been keenly observed over PCT-LG-23 in correspondence with PCT-LG-22 and that of Pt–TiO2 through visible light-induced photocatalytic water splitting. The effect of pH over photocatalytic hydrogen generation efficiency has been studied in the presence of triethanolamine (TEOA) which acts as a sacrificial electron donor (SED). LG-22 and LG-23 show H2 production yields of 8850.9 μmol h−1 and 9793.5 μmol h−1 at pH = 12 and pH = 3, respectively with a high turnover number (TON was 11801.2, 13058 for LG-22 and LG-23, respectively) under light irradiation with apparent quantum yields (AQY) of 7.20% and 7.96% for LG-22 and LG-23, respectively. The presence of thiophene and Benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b′]dithiophene (BDT) facilitated the extended π-conjugation, which gave rise to the excited state electronic properties and basicity of thiophene that enhanced the light absorption capacity of LG-23 in acidic conditions. Thus, this work provides a prime example of more efficient photonic conversion of an already existing, moderately active Zn porphyrin synthetic complex core encompassed precisely positioned functionalities of thiazine.

A series of lanthanum oxide (La2O3—2–14 wt%)-encapsulated Co3O4/MgO catalysts and bare Co/MgO solid oxides were prepared by wetness impregnation method. Among all catalysts, La2O3-promoted Co3O4/MgO (CM) was found to be remarkable in terms of superior promotional effect of La oxide species. Therefore, La2O3-incorporated Co3O4/MgO (LCM) catalysts afforded unusual catalytic activity efficiency with respect to high EB conversion and styrene selectivity due to the synergistic effect of Co–La species. By contrast, bare Co3O4/MgO solid oxide (CM) catalyst afforded low EB conversion with mild catalytic activity due to the absence of promotional role of La oxide.

It is imperative to design integrated functional composites that simultaneously facilitate efficient optical absorption, charge separation, and surface redox reactions for efficient photocatalytic hydrogen generation. Herein, we present a strategy for efficient hydrogen evolution by developing tunable ZnO nanorods and the hybrid ZnO nanorods decorated with CuS composite. The hierarchical nanostructured ZnO@CuS heterojunction is prepared via a simple hydrothermal reaction. While characterizations of its optical and photophysical properties, less is known about its charge carrier dynamics and photocatalytic activity in aqueous systems generating hydrogen. Time-correlated single photon counting (TCSPC) decay spectra of ZnO and ZCS2 clearly showed that the rate constant of electron transfer for ZCS2 is 8.35 × 109 s−1 and the average lifetime of ZnO decreases than ZCS2 which indicate fast electron transfer happens within the heterostructure through the CB of CuS to ZnO. Enhanced absorption of solar energy upon precise CuS concentration led to remarkably high photocatalytic H2 production (10113.59 µmol·g−1h−1) and an apparent quantum efficiency of 22.3% nm which is nearly ~35 times as high as that of pristine 287.96 µmol·g−1h−1. To our best knowledge, the obtained hydrogen evolution rate is among the maximum reported value in the literature under similar reaction systems. The excellent photocatalytic activity of the hybrid composite (ZnO@CuS) is attributed to the increase in light harvesting capability and efficient charge separation during the photocatalytic process as well as the synergistic role of CuS and ZnO in the nanostructured assembly. The work opens up new fundamental insights in designing hierarchical non-noble photocatalysts for solar applications.
