Prostorno planiranje je vitalni proces za brzo i uspješno razvijanje projekata vezanih za upravljanje vlažnim staništima, time i projektima vezanim za turizam. Turističke aktivnosti mogu dati obol razvijanju općeg razumijevanja, te podizanju pozornosti javnosti za vlažna staništa i njihove funkcije i ekološke sustave. Pored toga, turizam može biti i izvor prihoda te može pružiti mogućnosti zapošljavanja u ruralnim sredinama. Turisti također imaju utjecaj na vlažna staništa. Mjesta koja su dostupna turistima traže intenzivnije upravljanje negoli ona koja im nisu pristupačna. U cilju osiguranja skladnog odnosa između turističkih aktivnosti i zaštite okoliša prijeko je potrebno pristupiti procesu izrade urbanističkog projekta u sklopu zaštićenog područja na iznimno senzibilan način. U radu je sugeriran pristup izradi Urbanističkog projekta „Karaotok“, u sklopu Parka prirode Hutovo blato., Spatial planning is a vital process for a rapid and successful development of projects related to wetland management, and thereby projects related to tourism. Tourist activities could provide a boost to the development of general understanding of wetlands and raise public awareness of the functions and the ecosystem services wetlands provide. The tourism economy could be a source of income and could provide employment opportunities in rural areas. However, tourists also have an impact on wetlands. Protected areas accessible to tourists require a comprehensive management. In order to ensure a harmonious relationship between tourism activities and environmental protection, when developing an urban design within a protected area, it is crucial to have a sensitive approach. The paper suggests an approach to the development of the Urban Design "Karaotok", within the Hutovo Blato Nature Park.

Rhyacophila fasciata viteceki Valladolid & Kučinić (ssp. nov.) This subspecies has been found in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Etymology. The specific name is the genitive of Vitecek, given in honour of Dr. Simon Vitecek, biologist and trichopterologist of Wasser Cluster Lunz, Lunz am See, Austria. Type material. Holotype ♂: BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA, river Neretva, Bačevići (43.254154º N 17.824627º E, 35 m a.s.l.), 30/vi/17 (Stanić-Koštroman & M. Kučinić) [N1, MNCN _ Ent 269367 (MNCN)]. Paratypes: 2 ♂, same locality as holotype, 30/vi/17 (Stanić-Koštroman & M. Kučinić) [N2, no. 4455, (MCK) and N3, no. 1111 (UMBH)]. 2 ♂ and 1 ♀, river Sturba, 30/viii/18 (M. Description of the imago. Holotype (N1): Length from front of head to distal edge of segment IX 8.91 mm, each forewing 12.55 mm, each hind wing 10.54 mm. Males: Length 8.29–9.21 mm (x = 8.72, n = 6), each forewing 9.83–12.55 (x = 11.34, n = 6), each hind wing 8.85–10.54 mm (x = 9.79, n = 6). Female: Length from front of head to distal edge of segment VIII 11.26 mm (n =1), forewing 14.52 mm (n = 1), hind wing 12.15 mm (n = 1). In ethanol-preserved specimens colour generally pale brown, yellowish, with golden brown setae. Head, thorax, and abdomen dorsally pale brown, with small dark brown spots in dorsal area, some specimens in lateral view with long black spots marking borders between dorsal and ventral areas, abdomen ventrally yellowish; female darker than male, anterior 2/3 of abdominal segments pale brown or brown in darker specimens. Legs light, with spurs reddish brown. Forewings brown, spotted; hind wings pale. Male genitalia (Figs 3, 6 a–6e): Apical segment of each inferior appendage (Figs 3A, 6a) with basal and distal edges diverging, posterior edge oblique and slightly convex, ventral edge straight to slightly concave, at least two times longer that dorsal edge. Apicodorsal vertex angular, apicoventral angle projecting as thick lobe narrowing progressively to round apex (Fig 6a). Parameres (Figs 3 BV–3BL, 6c–6d) in ventral view curved posteromesad in apical 2/3 (Figs. 3 BV p, 6c). In lateral view (Figs. 3 BL, 6d) each slender at base, slightly dilated in middle, with rounded dorsal margin before midlength and almost straight ventral margin at midlength, pointed at apex; row of few thick spines on midventral margin (Figs 6 c–6d); midlateral surface covered by very fine spicules or setae, reaching from anteroventral to posterodorsal edges of paramere, absent from dorsal edge. Aedeagus (phallicata) in lateral view (Figs 3 CL, 6e) with dorsal margin deeply concave and posterior corner of concavity hooked anterad; upper posterior edge concave to obliquely truncate apex, ventral edge sinous. Lateroventral lobes of phallus (Fig. 3 CD lvl) convex, narrowing progressively towards apex, apicolateral margins round, posteromesal edge of each lobe concave. Ventral lobe of aedeagus nearly round, tapering and acute caudally (Fig 3 BV vl). We present the description of two new subspecies of the Rhyacophila fasciata Group: Rhyacophila fasciata delici Kučinić&Valladolid (ssp. nov.) bradly distributed in Croatia and present also in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and R. fasciata viteceki Valladolid&Kučinić (ssp. nov.), found in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Our study of the morphology of adults, as well as our analysis of the barcode region of the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase (mtCOI) gene and geographical distribution confirm the differences of the two new subspecies with the nominal species R. f. fasciata, also found in both countries.

Balance, accord and harmony are terms or conditions we all strive for both as individuals and members of a specific community – family, nation and society in general. Balance at all levels of organization, starting from each individual cell, organism, population, community, ecosystem, means an integrated actiontowardsthe maintenance or establishment of order, that is making efforts to reduce entropy as a measure ofinstability of a system, disturbance of homeostatic mechanisms and disease outbreaks, distorted states and even disappearance of structural units of both the animate and the inanimate. As regards the relationship between man and his environment, it cannot be said that it has been well-balanced throughout the human civilisation. While in the past we had limited possibilities for the use of natural resources, today we are changing the world around us to such an extent that we put into question not only the survival of numerous other living creatures we share the world with but also the further progress of human civilisation. Human activities have already left indelible imprint on our planet – irreversible changes written in all its spheres. To point to these changes, at the beginning of the 21st century, Paul Crutzen and EugenStoermer introduced to the scientific public the term anthropocene as an indication of a time interval characterised by rapid, but far-reaching changes in Earth’s geology whose modulator is man. The term was readily accepted and used in the world literature, and in 2009 Anthropocene Working Group (AWG) was established, gathering more than thirty experts from all over the world, with a task to critically analyse the concept of anthropocene from a stratigraphic perspective. The above mentioned working group has identified numerous changes in the Earth’s system such as: marked acceleration of rates of erosion and sedimentation, large-scale chemical perturbations to biogeochemical cycles, that is in the cycling of elements such as carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus and others, the inception of significantchanges in the global climate and the sea-level, and biotic alterations in marine and terrestrial ecosystems. A significant amount of geological evidence was found such as the emergence of plastics and other so called “technofossils”, artificial radionuclides associated with nuclear tests and carbonaceous particles originating from industry, which isa primary evidence indicating to the end of Holocene and the beginning of a new epoch – Anthropocene. The Anthropocene Working Group therefore suggested an official formalisation of this epoch whose starting point is considered to be the mid-20th century, or the year 1950, since when all above mentioned changes have been noticed on the entire planet. At a time when “the warning bells had been ringing” for a long time, the idea presented itself to write the work The Man and the Environment, a textbook primarily intended for students, and for a broader readership as well, which attempts to explain a comprehensive and above all complex nature of this indissoluble relationship in a simple and comprehensible manner. Considering the exceptional multidisciplinary character of the problems, we tried to apply an integral approach in our writing, encompassing relevant international literature, examples of good practice and our own thoughts, and to round upvery different contents into one whole which answers the questions whatis to be done next, how and why. In a comprehensive way, the textbook The Man and the Environment addresses environmental issues of the modern mankind and the possibilities of further progress of human society on the principles of sustainable development. It is primarily intended for students of undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate studies whose programs cover the issues of ecology, natural protection, environmental protection and sustainable development, but also for students of other studies who need general ecological knowledge and understanding of environmental issues. The book also aims at raising the level of knowledge and awareness of general public of the necessity of environmental protection and promotion of environmentally-conscious life style and way of thinking because the only way to make a step forward to a more prosperous future is to be united in our care for our own and common well-being. In terms of the contents, the book is arranged in a manner that in the first chapter the reader is familiarizedwith basic ecological terminology, laws and principles. The chapter consists of two subchapters – Environment, Science, and Public and The Principles of Ecological Stability – in which we tried to stress theinterdependence and interactions of the components of nature and the importance of all organisms in preservation of the fragile balance, and also to underline the importance of educational system, scientific and professional public in spreading the knowledge aboutthe repercussions of the so called “domino effect”, which is inevitable if the balance is disturbed. The next chapter is Millions of Planets – One Earth, which describes the creation of biotic and abiotic component of the Earth as a unique ecosystem – the ecosphere. By addressing the cause-and-effect impacts of man on his environment and environment on human health, we close the third chapter entitled The Man and Environmental Challenges. The said chapter deals with the causes and effects of the demographic growth of human population, the results of man’s (in)action, the causes and effects of pollution and contamination as well as with good examples and activities on the protection of all components of environment. The last chapter is Sustainable Development and it deals with further possibilities of the development of human society on the principles of sustainable development, instructing the readers how they can become actively involved in environmental protection in their everyday life. Finally, we wish to express our gratitude to all those who assisted in the writing and publishing of this textbook with their knowledge, useful advice or in other ways. Adriatic trout, Salmo obtusirostris have disappeared from most of their historical distribution range in the River Neretva (Bosnia and Herzegovina), while remnant populations are highly fragmented and distribution of the species is restricted to only 15% of historical areal. The research on population status was executed during 2015 and 2016 with use of different nets and electro- fishing.

In this study we present morphological, molecular and ecological features of the last instar larvae of Drusus bosnicus with data about distribution of this species in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We also included the most important diagnostic features enabling separation of larvae of D. bosnicus from larvae of the other European Drusinae and Trichoptera species.

The caddisfly community composition and structure were studied in the Mediterranean (i.e., central part of Herzegovina) and the temperate (i.e., Central Bosnia) regions of the country which differ considerably regarding the climate, hydrology, geomorphology, and vegetation. In both studied areas, four riverswith seven sampling sites eachwere selected for light-trapping of adult caddisflies during a one-year period. A total of 97 species were collected (i.e., 52 in Herzegovina during 2003 and 67 in Central Bosnia during 2004) and seven of them are first records for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Marked differences in caddisfly community composition and structure between the two regions were found and confirmed by a cluster analysis of comparable river sites. These differences could be primarily linked to observed variability in environmental factors. Also, distinct phenological patterns of caddisflies were found in the Mediterranean and temperate parts, respectively, and these were further analyzed in detail for the five most abundant common species. For the populations in Central Bosnia, generally later andshorter periods of flightwere recorded.Therefore, wetested the influence ofmeteorological parameters (night air temperature during the light-trapping, and monthly values of air temperature, precipitation, humidity, cloudiness, and wind speed) on flight activity and periodicity of caddisflies in both regions. A staudy caddisflies biodiversity and its application for use as indicator species to asses the ekcological integrity of aquatic enviroments was conducted in the area of the Lištica River, Bosnia and Herzegovina. A portable UV lighttrap was used to collect caddisflies at two sites: the spring of Lištica-Bilo Vrilo and the middle reach of this river in a karstic depression-Mostarsko blato. From March 2003 to March 2004 a total of 4334 individuals, representing 34 species were caught. There were significant differences in species composition and abundance between sampling sites. The flight periods are shown for all recorded species and studied in detail for twelve abundant species. The species inventories were used for analysing the longitudinal classification of the sampling sites, composition of functional feeding guilds and the saprobic indices.

Drusus klapaleki is distributed in central Bosnia & Herzegovina and it belongs to the bosnicus group. In the Balkan Peninsula the bosnicus group consists of 8 taxa with allopatric distribution. This study has two objectives. One is to describe the morphological characters of Drusus klapaleki larva. Another objective is to find certain morphological and ecological features common to the species belonging to the bosnicus group from the Balkan Peninsula.

Mediterranean maquis ecosystem is the most important habitat for herbivores and livestock. But, forage value of the Medirerranean shrubs varies considerably. Plants possess a variety of flavour and nutritional qualities as well as toxins. Juniperus species, as J. oxycedrus L. and J. phoenice L., are one of the dominant shrubs of Mediterranean maquis and posses a large amount of essential oils. Terpenes and terpenoids are the primary constituents of the essential oils of many species of plant. Herbivores limit intake of plant to minimize the potentiall toxic effect of terpenes. In our experiments, total content of essential oils in shrubs of J. phoenicea was approximately two times higher than in shrubs of J. oxycedrus. The high biodiversity on the Balkan Peninsula is a result of the specific geographical, climatical, geomorphological and hydrological features. The region is an important centre of biodiversity and endemism for different groups of animals also including Trichoptera. Within Trichoptera one of the most interesting genuses is Drusus with 28 species recorded so far for the Balkans, 90 % of which are endemic to this region. The Drusus species usually inhabit springs and crenal sections of mountain streams and rivers, with low and slightly variable annual water temperature. This important life history trait determinates their patchy distribution, especially the isolation of mountain populations, and therefore high species diversity. Within the Balkan Peninsula seven taxa from the bosnicus group were established: Drusus bosnicus, D. klapaleki, D. medianus, D. ramae, D. vespertinus, D. radovanovici radovanovici and D. radovanovici septentrionis. In this study we present morphological features and some ecological data of the last instar larvae of Drusus klapaleki. In addition, we outline the most important diagnostic features of these larvae in order to distinguish them from larvae of the other species from the bosnicus group. Moreover, notes on faunistics of springs where larvae were collected, and some aspects of ecological features and distribution are discussed for all species from the bosnicus group.

Veslonošci (Copepoda) i rašljoticalci (Cladocera) su istraživani u jezerima i izvorima (krenal)donjeg toka rijeke Neretve u trajanju od lipnja 2012., do svibnja 2013. godine. Istraživanjem su obuhvaćena tri jezera i tri izvora. Postaje se nalaze u Bosni i Hercegovini i Republici Hrvatskoj. Pri uzorkovanju se koristila mrežica promjera oka 40 µm te crpac zapremine pet litara. Ukupno je zabilježeno 27 vrsta mikroskopskih rakova. Vrstama bogatija skupina bili su rašljoticalci. Jezera su bogatija vrstama u odnosu na izvore. Dobiveni rezultati ukazuju na različitu dinamiku razvoja zajednica zooplanktona u prirodnim jezerima Krenica i Kuti i akumulaciji Svitavsko jezero. U Svitavskom jezeru je zabilježen značajan negativan antropogeni utjecaj na dinamiku razvoja zajednice zooplanktona ispiranjem planktonskih rakova iz jezera u zimskim mjesecima pod utjecajem režima rada ustave. Od tri istraživana izvora, samo je u jednom zabilježen razvoj zajednice zooplanktona. Protok vode i izgled krenala su se pokazali kao glavni čimbenici za razvoj zajednice zooplanktona u istraživanim izvorima. Copepoda and Cladocera were studied in lacustrine and crenal habitats in the lower course of the Neretva River from June 2012 to May 2013. Sampling sites are located in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. Crustacean zooplankton was colected using a plankton net (mesh size 40 µm) and five liter water sampler. Sampling methods differed in lakes and wells. A total of 23 species were collected. Compared to Copepoda, Cladocera were richer in number of species. Compared to crenal habitats, lakes had higher number of species. With the exception of the lake Kuti, these are preliminary results of zooplankton community in the lakes and wells included in this study. Results indicate different dynamics of zooplankton community in natural and artificial lakes. Negative antropogenic influence on development of the zooplankton community has been reported in Svitava lake. Only in one explored spring, Arapi Vrilo, development of zooplankton community has ben reported. Water flow and habitat structure are the most important factors that influence zooplankton community development in the wells included in this study.
