This study aimed to determine the influence of body composition on the muscle fitness of selected judokas. This study was conducted on a sample of 23 judokas (cadets n = 12, juniors n = 11), members of the male national team of Serbia. The assessment of body composition was performed using the InBody 720 (Biospace Co., Ltd., Seoul, Republic of Korea) and calipers. Muscle fitness was assessed using "Optojump" (Microgate, Bolzano, Italy), Fitrodine Premium (Fitronic, Bratislava, Slovakia), and a digital force instrument IMADA Z2H-1100 (Imada Inc., Northbrook, IL, USA). Regression analysis revealed a notable association between muscle mass and measures of explosive strength (countermovement jump (CMJ) p = 0.023; drop jump (DJ) p = 0.026). Moreover, this study's results showed that back extension (p = 0.006; R2 = 0.61) and hand grip (p = 0.009; R2 = 0.52) provide a strong positive association with muscle mass. The findings suggest that tailored training and nutritional strategies that improve muscle mass might significantly enhance muscle fitness in young judokas, optimizing their performance. Dry outer onion leaves resulting from the industrial processing of onions are currently discarded as agricultural waste, although some studies have demonstrated that onion peel has beneficial biological effects. Considering the traditional applications of onion peel, the present study evaluated comparatively the chemical and biological characteristics of four types of onion peel extracts, utilizing methanol, ethanol, acetone, or ethyl acetate as the extracting solvent. The extracts were analyzed for their chemical composition, antioxidant potential, and antimicrobial activity. The chemical analysis by UHPLC-DAD-ESI/MS identified 23 compounds in the extracts, belonging to phenolic acids and flavonoids. Quercetin was the main compound in all extracts, ranging in concentrations from 14.91 mg/g DW in the ethanol extract to 48.53 mg/g DW in the methanol extract. The highest contents of total phenols and flavonoids were found in the acetone extract, and the methanol extract demonstrated the highest antioxidant activity in DPPH and ABTS assays. The antimicrobial potential of the extracts was screened using a microdilution method against a spectrum of gastrointestinal microorganisms. The results revealed that all four extracts have significant antimicrobial potential against the tested microorganisms, of which the ethanol extract demonstrated the highest antimicrobial potency. Background/Aim. Bacillus cereus (B. cereus) usually ingested by food can cause two types of diseases: vomiting due to the presence of emetic toxin and diarrheal syndrome, due to the presence of diarrheal toxins. Systemic manifestations can also occur. The severe forms of disease demand antibiotic treatmant. The aim of this study was to determine the differences in antibiotic susceptibility and β-lactamase activity of B. cereus isolates from stools of humans, food and environment. Methods. Identification of B. cereus was performed with selective medium, classical biochemical test and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with primers specific for bal gene. Thirty isolates from each group were analysed for antibiotic susceptibility using the disk-diffusion assay. Production of β-lactamase was determined by cefinase test, and double-disc method. Results. All strains identified as B. cereus using classical biochemical test, yielded 533 bp fragment with PCR. Isolates from all the three groups were susceptible to imipenem, vancomycin, and erythromycin. All isolates were susceptible to ciprofloxacin but one from the environment. A statistically significant difference between the groups was confirmed to tetracycline and trimethoprim-sulphamethoxazole sensitivity. A total of 28/30 (93.33%) samples from the foods and 25/30 (83.33%) samples from environment were approved sensitive to tetracycline, while 10/30 (33.33%) isolates from stools were sensitive. Opposite to this result, high susceptibility to trimethoprim-sulphamethoxazole was shown in samples from stools (100%), while isolates from foods (63.33%) and from environment (70%) had low susceptibility. All samples produced β-lactamases. Conclusion. The strains of B. cereus from all the three groups showed high rate of sensitivity to most tested antibiotics, except to tetracycline in samples from human stool and to trimethoprim-sulphamethoxazole in samples from food and environment. The production of β-lactamases was confirmed in all the strains.

The antibacterial effects of essential oils from Serbian cultivated plants, Thymus vulgaris L. (Lamiace) and Lavandula angustifolia L. (Lamiace) on different bacteria were investigated, with an emphasis on an antibacterial activity-chemical composition relationship. Essential oil was obtained from airdried aerial parts of the plants by hydrodistillation for 3 h using a Clevenger-type apparatus. The essential oil analyses were performed simultaneously by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) systems. The main constituents of thyme oil were thymol (59.95%) and p-cymene (18.34%). Linalyl acetate (38.23%) and linalool (35.01%) were main compounds in lavender oil. The antibacterial activity of the essential oils samples was tested towards 5 different bacteria: laboratory control strain obtained from the American Type Culture Collection and clinical isolates from different pathogenic media. Gram negative bacteria were represented by Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 43895 and Salmonella enteretidis ATCC 9027 while researched Gram positive strains were Bacillus cereus ATCC 8739 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. A broth microdilution method was used to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC). Essential oils from thyme have been found to have antimicrobial activity against all microorganisms tested, with a range of MIC values from 0.025 to 0.10 l/ml and MBC values from 0.05 to 0.78 l/ml. Lavender oils demonstrated MIC values from 0.025 to 0.20 l/ml and MBC values from 0.05 and 0.78 l/ml. Reference antibiotic tetracycline was active in concentrations between 0.025 and 0.05 l/ml. The Gram-positive bacteria were more sensitive to the essential oil of thyme, while Gram-negative bacteria were more sensitive to the essential oil of lavender. Essential oils from thyme and lavender may be used at low concentrations for prevention and treatment of infective diseases in animals and humans caused by pathogenic bacterial species.

Judo is a dynamic and demanding martial art which can contribute to a physical and psychological development of a person. Research into the performance requirements of judokas has suggested the existence of the correlation between anthropometric and physical attributes and the demands of this sport. The purpose of the present investigation was to assess the somatotype characteristics of top male judokas in Serbia.The study of elite athletes (judokas, in this case) may provide valuable information on the morphological requirements for achieving success in this sport.Present research ofsomatotype characteristics in 20 top Serbian male judokas (12 juniors and 8 seniors) aged 19.32±4.02 years was measured. Anthropometric variables included height, mass, selected diameters, girths and skinfolds, and a Health-Carter anthropometric somatotype. All the anthropometric data were collected following the International Biological Programme and then processed by the Somatotype 1.2 programme. The obtained results show a similar profile and endomesomorphic mean somatotype (3.29-5.23-2.88), as in many previous studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Karate is characterized by a large number of complex techniques, which require the adoption of a large amount of information that allow us to reveal the essential elements of the technique, in order to enable prediction of the opponent's intentions and allow us to react adequately. Motor abilities are divided into basic and situational motor skills. Basic motor skills are inherited, to a greater or lesser degree, while the situational motor skills are acquired and conditioned by the specificity of the training process of the sports field practiced by one. The aim of the study was to determine the correlation of situational-motor and motor areas in young karateka. The study was conducted on 50-selected young female karateka, aged 14-16 years. Assessments of motor abilities was conducted through 15 selected motor tests, an assessment of motor situational abilities (which are represented by direct punches) was conducted through 3 tests. Performed canonical correlation analysis showed a statistically significant correlation between motor skills and situational motor abilities of young karateka. In the motor area, the structure of the function is defined almost with all applied manifest variables, and it is interpreted as a factor of motor skills of selected youth karateka. The situational motor area function is defined as a factor of direct punches in young karateka. Based on actual correlation between situational motor and motor abilities of young karateka we can conclude that these relations are logically realized where the structure of movement at least in some stages are similar. Also it is noticed that the correlation is realized also where the movements are carried out with involvement of the same muscle groups. This was confirmed by positive feedback between the motor and situational-motor space, which shows the benefits of karate training, and the effect of these benefits to the development of karate skills. The oil extracted from hemp seeds has significant nutritional and biological properties due to the unique composition of polyunsaturated fatty acids and various antioxidant compounds. The potential of this oil for the prevention of oxidative stress and for the treatment of oxidative-stress-induced ailments is of increasing interest. Most studies of hemp seed oil were conducted in-vitro, meaning we lack information about effects and activity in vivo. In the present study, we evaluated the hypothesis that hemp seed oil at different concentrations improves the oxidative state of D. melanogaster, under non-stress as well as hydrogen-peroxide-induced stress. We analyzed the effects of hemp seed oil on oxidative stress markers and on the life cycle of D.melanogaster under non-stress and hydrogen-peroxide-induced stress conditions. D.melanogaster larvae were exposed to hemp seed oil concentrations ranging from 12.5 to 125 μL/mL. The results revealed that under non-stress conditions, oil concentrations up to 62.5 µL/mL did not induce negative effects on the life cycle of D. melanogaster and maintained the redox status of the larval cells at similar levels to the control level. Under oxidative stress conditions, biochemical parameters were significantly affected and only two oil concentrations, 18.7 and 31.2 µL/mL, provided protection against hydrogen peroxide stress effects. A higher oil concentration (125 μL/mL) exerted negative effects on the oxidative status and increased larval mortality. The tested oil was characterized chemically by NMR, transesterification, and silylation, followed by GC-MS analyses, and was shown to contain polyunsaturated fatty acid triglycerides and low levels of tocopherols. The high levels of linoleic and linolenic acids in the oil are suggested to be responsible for the observed in vivo antioxidant effects. Taken together, the results show that hemp seed oil is effective for reducing oxidative stress at the cellular level, thus supporting the hypothesis. Introduction. Shared psychotic disorder, or folie à deux, is a rare entity characterized by the transmission of psychotic symptoms from one patient (the inducer) to another (the induced). Delusional disorder is a type of mental illness (International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification, diagnosis code F24; it was moved from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, to Other Specified Schizophrenia Spectrum and Other Psychotic Disorders). Only one person (the inducer) suffers from a real psychotic disorder, and the other/s is/ are induced, and most often recover/s after separation from the inducer. Case Report. Based on the medical records and available literature on this condition, we present a case of a mother and son with this disorder, where the son with a paranoid psychosis transfers it to his mother. They lived alone in the same household for years, socially isolated from the others. Conclusion. In general, the research has shown that there are no uniform opinions among authors regarding the incidence of the disorder in males and females, at younger and older age, as well as in relationships between partners, siblings, and between parents and children. Most agree that longterm social isolation is among the most common risk factors, as well as dominance and strong power of suggestion in one partner, and passivity and tendency to suggestion in the other.
