The aim of the study is to analyze the prevalence of functional and structural disorders of the musculoskeletal apparatus (MSA) and postural balance in adolescents in the Saratov region. Material and methods. The condition of the musculoskeletal system in adolescents of the Saratov region (n = 555) was studied as part of a one-stage study. The prevalence of pain complaints in various structures of the musculoskeletal system, body type, posture, shape of the pelvis and feet, the presence of trigger points, the function of the hip and shoulder joints, the volume of movement in various parts of the spine were analyzed. To assess the postural balance, the indicators of the statokinesiogram were studied. Results. A high prevalence of complaints of pain in the structures of the musculoskeletal system has been established. The most common structural changes are: scoliotic posture disorder, the shape of the shoulders, chest, shoulder blades, pelvis, feet. Among the functional disorders – limited mobility in the hip and shoulder joints, in the thoracic and lumbar spine. Trigger points were found mainly in the trapezius, pectoralis minor, scalenus, quadratus lumborum, sternocleidomastoid muscles. Statistically significant correlations were found between the parameters of the statokinesiogram and complaints of pain in the spine, structural and functional disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Conclusions. The results of the study indicate the need for an interdepartmental integrated approach to the prevention of diseases of the musculoskeletal system in adolescents. An important condition is the quality of preventive medical examinations, a personalized approach to physical education, optimization of the ergonomics of classrooms in schools, training the population in movement hygiene, and increasing commitment to a healthy lifestyle.

Balance disorders are complications of stroke survivors. Aim of this study was the establish effectiveness of the biofeedback approach. In this intervention study 245 patients with early diagnosis of acute disturbance of cerebral circulation (ADCC) were examined. Patients able to move independently were treated by standard conservative ADCC therapy on an outpatient approach, but they continued to have problems with coordination of movement in upright position. Then they were submitted to an increasing physical activity based on five sessions of biofeedback, i.e., a complex rehabilitation of patients with motor pathology "Trust-M" according to TU 9442-001-63704475-2010. Mobility rates were assessed using a web camera. Patients' quality of life was evaluated by SF-36 questionnaire and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). All parameters were recorded before and after 5 sessions of biofeedback. After treatment, the stability indicators improved and all patients showed a significant increase in motion rate and quality of life. At the same time, the severity of pain and of depression and anxiety decreased. Negative correlations of average strength between the quadrant and patient HADS scaling rates were obtained. In conclusion, our work shows effectiveness of the biofeedback technique for correcting coordination in stroke survivors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Background The limb center of pressure (COP) path measures and quantifies the load distribution within a limb in a still or moving subject. Under this premise, the aim of this study was to test whether data derived from this parameter could detect the differences between sound and lame limbs in unilaterally lame dogs with elbow dysplasia. To accomplish this purpose, ten unilaterally lame dogs of similar conformation were walked over a pressure platform. Next, the COP path, in relation to the position of sound and lame limbs, was measured in a coordinate system over a standard paw template obtained by pedobarography during the whole support phase. To compare variables, force platform data (peak vertical force and vertical impulse) from the same animals were obtained. Sound and lame limb statokinesiograms were also obtained while the animals stood still. Results The statistical analysis clearly showed that COP in lame limbs start cranially and were shorter than sound limbs. In addition, the value of the COP excursion index was lower in lame limbs. Finally, the area of statokinesiograms was greater in lame limbs. Conclusion This methodology based in limb COP characteristics serves to discriminate between sound and lame limbs in dogs with elbow dysplasia.

Background: Disorientation, nausea, confusion, dizziness, and displacement are frequently complained by headache-suffering children. Anyhow, the cause of these symptoms is still unclear, and a dysfunction of vestibular pathways or their alteration due to central pain pathways hyper-activation, has been proposed. The aim of this study is to use posturography to explore the balance function of headache-suffering children during pain-free periods.Methods: Posturography was performed on 19 migraineurs, 11 tension-type headache sufferers, and 20 healthy controls. Posturographic measures were performed during headache-free periods under different conditions: with eyes opened, eyes closed, and during right and left optokinetic stimulation. The last 2 conditions were used to mimic unreliable visual signals that can confound vestibular system.Results: During eyes-closed conditions, headache-suffering children displayed higher displacements than healthy controls, since statokinesiogram surface was higher in tension-type headache sufferers and migraineurs compared with controls (P value = 0.0095). Romberg's index, indicating the overall stability of the subject, was lower in healthy controls than in headache sufferers (P = 0.0139), thus suggesting a vestibular impairment in the seconds. Moreover, both during right and left optokinetic stimulation, the statokinesiogram length was higher in headache-suffering children (P < 0.0001). Thereafter, statokinesiogram surface was higher in migraineurs during right optokinetic stimulation (P = 0.0388) than in tension-type headache sufferers when stimulation was directed on the opposite side (P = 0.0249).Conclusions: These results suggest a central alteration of vestibular pathways in headache-suffering children, that makes balance function more dependent from visual inputs than healthy subjects, even in inter-ictal phases.
