Background Primary pulmonary meningioma (PPM) is a very rare tumor, while multiple PPMs are even more exceptional and herein, we report the sixth case, focusing on the clinicopathological and radiological features of the tumor. Case presentation Herein, we report a case of an asymptomatic 51-year-old female, who presented three solid nodules in both lungs who underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic middle lobectomy and wedge resection of the right upper lobe. The third lesion was followed-up and resected three years later due to its slow but significant growth, alongside two new lesions. All lesions revealed morphological and immunohistochemical profile of meningioma. Metastatic meningioma was ruled out by brain and spine magnetic resonance imaging scans. Conclusions PPM is mostly benign and slow-growing tumor with an excellent prognosis, it does not present specific radiological characteristics and it is difficult to differentiate it from other lung tumors, surgical resection with subsequent histopathological examination being essential. A causal connection between sex hormones and meningiomas has long been debated and we hypothesize a causal connection between the PPM and her hormonal therapy with progesterone analogue.

Clinical presentation can sometimes make the diagnosis of giant-cell arteritis difficult. Histopathological features of temporal artery biopsy are challenging because of the various described appearances. We describe the case of a 51-year-old man with temporal artery biopsy corresponding to the adventitial pattern of giant-cell arteritis according to Hernandez-Rodriguez et al.

Implementation of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) testing in the daily practice of pathology laboratories requires procedure adaptation to formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples. So far, one study reported the feasibility of SARS-CoV-2 genome sequencing on FFPE tissues with only one contributory case of two. This study optimized SARS-CoV-2 genome sequencing using the Ion AmpliSeq SARS-CoV-2 Panel on 22 FFPE lung tissues from 16 deceased coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients. SARS-CoV-2 was detected in all FFPE blocks using a real-time RT-qPCR targeting the E gene with crossing point (Cp) values ranging from 16.02 to 34.16. Sequencing was considered as contributory (i.e. with a uniformity >55%) for 17 FFPE blocks. Adapting the number of target amplification PCR cycles according to the RT-qPCR Cp values allowed optimization of the sequencing quality for the contributory blocks (i.e. 20 PCR cycles for blocks with a Cp value 30 were non-contributory. Comparison of matched frozen and FFPE tissues revealed discordance for only three FFPE blocks, all with a Cp value >28. Variant identification and clade classification was possible for 13 patients. Introduction. Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is susceptible to infestation with an associated complex of different species of parasitic and saprophytic nematodes, bacteria, fungi, and arthropods, which diminish the quality of the product. Material and methods. 10 varieties of potatoes were investigated (Agata, Albastriu-mov, Bella rosa, Concorde, Desiree, Irga, Iagodca, Roko, Romano, Sprinter), cultivated on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. The extraction of nematodes and mites was performed using the Baermann funnels, modified by Nesterov.Results. Multiannual researches on the degree of potato infestation have shown that tubers are preferred by various arthropods (Acaridae), Agriothes spp. (Elateridae), Gryllotalpa gryllotalpa, (Grillotalpidae) and Sciaridae spp . (Sciaridae), which form different interactions with the parasitic nematodes of tubers (Ditylenchus destructor, D. dipsaci).Conclusions. Solanum tuberosum infested by parasitic nematodes D. destructor in association with saprophytic nematodes and dry rot are colonized by nematophag ous (mites – 80%) and phytophagous arthropods (wireworms – 40%; mole cricket – 50%; flies – 40%). Among the researched arthropods, Rhizoglyphus echinopus were more frequently found, which together with other species actively consume the primary and secondary parasitic nematodes, their mortality constituting up to 90%. In the traumatized by some arthropods potatoes, with the soil, secondary parasitic nematodes, also penetrate, carrying bacterial and fungal infections, subsequently stimulating the total rot of potato tubers.

We present a dual-chiplet interposer-based system-in-package (SiP) octo-core processor using Chip-on-Wafer-on-Substrate (CoWoS) technology. Each of the two identical chiplets is implemented in 7-nm CMOS with 15 metal layers and has four Arm Cortex-A72 processor cores operating at 4.0 GHz. A bidirectional mesh bus with 2-mm flop-to-flop distance is distributed throughout the chiplet for high-speed on-die data transport above 4.0 GHz. The chiplets communicate with each other through ultrashort reach (0.5 mm long) interposer channels using a Low-voltage-In-Package-INterCONnect (LIPINCON) clock-forwarded parallel interface. The scalable link module offers 320 GB/s of aggregate bandwidth, operating at 8.0 Gb/s/pin and 0.3-V transmitter swing without receiver termination to achieve 0.56-pJ/bit energy efficiency and 1.6-Tb/s/mm2 bandwidth density. Measurements of the fabricated SiP validate the functionality and performance of the cores, on-die data bus, and inter-chiplet link. The built-in LIPINCON eye-scan feature validates inter-chiplet connectivity at 8.0 Gb/s with an eye opening of 244 mV and 0.69 UI.

Background: Behcet’s disease (BD) is a multisystemic, chronic inflammatory disorder with a broad range of manifestations including within the cardiovascular system. Cardiac involvement like intracardiac thrombus (ICT) and valvular involvement in BD are rarely seen entities and often associated with poor prognosis. Case Presentation: We present the case of a young patient with vascular-Behcet diagnosed by the presence of intracardiac thrombus in the right ventricle, unresponsive to medical treatment. Even though the intracardiac lesion was successfully treated by surgical excision, he presented a severe tricuspid dysfunction some years later due to the extension of fibrosis with no surgical therapeutic option. Conclusion: Intracardiac thrombosis is a rare but early manifestation of Behcet’s disease, which is difficult to diagnose and has a poor prognosis.

Metastatic melanoma is a fatal disease with poor prognosis. Ever since targeted therapy against oncogenic BRAF was approved, molecular profiling has become an integral part of the management of such patients. While molecular testing is not available in all pathology laboratories, immunohistochemistry (IHC) is a reliable screening option. The major objective of the present study was to evaluate whether IHC detection of BRAF and the tumor (suppressor) protein 53 gene (TP53) are reliable surrogates for mutation detection. Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded samples of melanomas for which molecular data were previously obtained by targeted next-generation sequencing (NGS) between January 2014 and February 2019 were immunostained with BRAF V600E and p53 antibodies. A blinded evaluation of the IHC slides was performed by two pathologists in order to evaluate inter-observer concordance (discordant cases were reviewed by a third observer). The associations between the results of IHC and molecular profiling were evaluated. The study included a series of 37 cases of which 15 harbored a BRAF mutation and five a TP53 mutation. IHC had an overall diagnostic accuracy of 93.9% for BRAF V600E and 68.8% for TP53 compared to NGS. A statistically significant association between the two diagnostic methods was obtained for BRAF V600E (P=0.0004) but not for p53 (P=0.3098) IHC. The κ coefficient for IHC assessment of p53 was 0.55 and that for BRAF V600E was 0.72. In conclusion, the present results evidenced that IHC staining is a reliable surrogate for NGS in identifying the BRAF V600E mutation, which may become an efficient screening tool. Aberrant expression of p53 on IHC is at times associated with TP53 mutations but it was not possible to establish a direct link.

This work is based on helminthological data of amphibians, collected since 2013 until 2020, in the Republic of Moldova. The investigations on anura amphibians were conducted in the laboratory of Parazitology and Helminthology of the Institute of Zoology. One of the most common parasitic diseases in ruminants is fasciolosis, caused by the trematode Fasciola hepatica species. The results of parasitological research showed that adult cattle were infected with fascioles in 66.4% of cases, and young cattle - in 46.1% of cases. This is largely due to the grazing of animals of different species and ages in limited areas.The presence of the trematode species Haplometra cylindracea was established in 78% of cases in the amphibians in the Ranidae and Bufonidae families (Rana ridibunda, Rana lessonae, Rana temporaria, Bufo viridis). The results of laboratory helminthological investigations have shown that the relationships between the Fasciola hepatica miracidium and the Haplometra cylindracea miracidium are antagonistic. Amphibians of the Ranidae and Bufonidae families (Rana ridibunda, Rana lessonae, Rana temporaria, Bufo viridis) infested with Haplometra cylindracea tremateda may play an important role in the prophylaxis of fasciolosis.

The results of the complex parasitological studies conducted in the wild birds of hunting interest as well as domestic birds demonstrates that the phenomenon of the poliparasitism is a static one, although the poliparasitic quantitative and qualitative structure is continuously changing. This is due to instantaneous contact of the wild birds with the domestic ones, irregular deparasiting of domestic animals and their crates, reduced areas for animals breading and maintenance that ensures the permanent contact with the wild birds as the infestation source. The findings of the study on the diversity of the ectoparasitic fauna in wild birds from various anthropic biotopes of Moldova revealed that the wild and domestic birds are infested with multiple parasites and that the most identified parasitoses are common for major birds of hunting interest as well as for the domestic birds.

In the paper is described the mono- and poly-invasions impact on some morpho-functional indices in wild boars. So, in result of the investigation of hematological indices in uninfested mono- and poly-parasitized wild boars, it was established that both the indices of hemoglobin content, of hematocrit, erythrocyte’s number, thrombosis time and ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) vary and are more increased in the I group with uninfested wild boars compared to mono - and poly-parasitized ones. It has been established that at infested boars with S. papillosus from the I group, and in those infested with D. lanceolatum from the II group there is a decrease of hemostatic indices, but their maximum decrease is highlighted in the IV group with wild boars infested with Dicrocoelium lanceolatum, Strongyloides papillosus, Metastrongylus elongatus and Eimeria debliecki. This decrease is due to eliminated exotoxins by parasites, which contain anticoagulants and hemolyzers and which neutralize the fibrinogen, thrombin, Ca+ ions and vitamin K properties from the body.

Corn is one of the major technical field crops in the Republic of Moldova, advantageous in bioecological and productive aspects, which is invaded annually by the harmful organisms with considerable parasitic impact. The phytosanitary control results, carried out annually and seasonally, comparatively in the corn plantations, notice a significant diversity of the specific diseases and of the invasive insects that seriously affect the plants from the germination phases until the harvest. In corn, were established the numerical density values (D. n.), comparative in different ecological areas, on average 15-280 (ex. /100 g soil), with an abundance by 5-25% higher in the autumn than in the spring. Phytoparasitic impact indices the frequency (F %) and intensity (I %) of the phytohelminthological disease level was estimated, being more advanced by 3-30% in the spring-summer period, observed differently depending on the area compared to the autumn period. The structure of parasitic phytonematode complexes was determined counting 20 species, included in 8 families and one order (Tylenchida), classified according to trophic specialization, with the predominance of endo-ectoparasites. It was established the diversity of the associated invasive insect species from the soil: 12 species, 8 families, 3 orders, also, with invasive ectoparasitic impact on corn plants, with the disease degree of 5-40%, detected in all phases of vegetation and sectors investigated.

The European legislative on the use of different control strategies against plant-parasitic nematodes, with particular reference to pesticides, is constantly evolving, sometimes causing confusion in the sector operators. This article highlights the nematode control management allowed in the C Zone of the European Union, which includes the use of chemical nematicides (both fumigant and non-fumigant), agronomic control strategies (crop rotations, biofumigation, cover crops, soil amendments), the physical method of soil solarization, the application of biopesticides (fungi, bacteria and their derivatives) and plant-derived formulations. The authors analyze the use of these strategies and substances in organic agriculture as well as in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs.

Autopsy is an important quality assurance indicator and a tool to advance medical knowledge. This study aims to compare the premortem clinical and postmortem pathology findings in patients who died in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), to analyze if there are any discrepancies between them, and to compare the results to two similar studies performed in our institution in 2004 and 2007. Between January 1, 2016, and December 31, 2018, 888 patients died in the ICU and 473 underwent post-mortem examination (PME) of whom 437 were included in the present study. Autopsies revealed discrepancies between clinical diagnosis and pathologic findings according to in 101 cases (23.1%) according to Goldman classification. Forty-eight major discrepancies (class I and class II) were identified in 44 cases and the most frequent identified discrepancies were pulmonary embolism (3/12) as class I and malignancies (13/35) as class II. They were more frequent in patients hospitalized for less than 10 days then in the group with more than 10 days of hospitalization (13.8% vs 4.5%; p = 0.002). No statistical difference has been noticed concerning age, gender, and ICU stay. We observed an increase of performed autopsies and a total discrepancy rate similar to the studies performed in the same institution in 2004 (22.5%) and 2007 (21%). In conclusion, discrepancies between clinical and PME diagnoses persist despite the medical progress. Secondly, the autopsy after a short hospital stay may reveal unexpected findings whose diagnosis is challenging even if it may be suspected by the intensivist.
