Abstract

Cardiovascular (CV) involvement after severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV2) infection was found to be frequent among the general population, especially in the pre-vaccination era, and particularly for hospitalized patients or those who experienced a more severe course of the disease. The spectrum of CV disease varies; however, acute myocarditis is particularly fearsome for the athletic population due to the possible associated risk of malignant arrhythmias during training. Alarming percentages of CV injuries, even in young and healthy athletes with a benign course of the disease, arose from a few initial studies limited to case series. Subsequent single-center studies and larger observational registries reported a lower prevalence of SARS-CoV2 CV involvement in athletes. Studies showing the occurrence of CV adverse events during follow-up periods are now available. The objective of our narrative review is to provide an updated summary of the literature on CV involvement after coronavirus disease 2019, both in the early post-infection period and over a longer period of time, with a focus on athletic populations.

Abstract

There are two available sets of data on the e+e−→Λc+Λ¯c− cross section at energies close to the production threshold, collected by the Belle and by the BESIII Collaborations. The measurement of the former, performed by means of the initial state radiation technique, is compatible with the presence of a resonance, called ψ(4660), observed also in other final states. On the contrary, the latter is measured an almost flat and hence non-resonant cross section in the energy region just above the production threshold, but the data stop before the possible rise in the cross section for the resonant production. We propose an effective model to describe the behavior of the data near this threshold, which is based on a Coulomb-like enhancement factor due to the strong interaction among the final state particles. In the framework of this model, it is possible to describe both datasets.

Abstract

Abstract

In March 2019 the HADES experiment recorded 14 billion Ag+Ag collisions at √sNN = 2.55 GeV as a part of the FAIR phase-0 physics program. In this contribution, we present and investigate our capabilities to reconstruct and analyze weakly decaying strange hadrons and hypernuclei emerging from these collisions. The focus is put on measuring the mean lifetimes of these particles.

Abstract

Samples of random poly(butene-ran-ethylene) copolymers produced with metallocene catalysts were studied in order to elucidate the different behaviors of this particular class of materials as a function of increasing ethylene (C2) content. The samples cooled down from the melt are semi-crystalline or amorphous and crystallize in different crystal modifications, depending on the amount of C2. Thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, and microscopic techniques were used to follow the changes of the materials with aging time and to understand the structural and morphological behavior with the aim of highlighting possible peculiar properties, which may be of great interest in the application of such materials in the field of Hot Melt adhesives.

Abstract

Gas detector are very light instrument used in high energy physics to measure the particle properties: position and momentum. Through high electric field is possible to use the Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) technology to detect the charged particles and to exploit their properties to construct a large area detector, such as the new IT for BESIII. The state of the art in the GEM production allows to create very large area GEM foils (up to 50x100 $\mathrm{cm}^2$) and thanks to the small thickness of these foils is it possible to shape it to the desired form: a Cylindrical Gas Electron Multiplier (CGEM) is then proposed. The innovative construction technique based on Rohacell, a PMI foam, will give solidity to cathode and anode with a very low impact on material budget. The entire detector is sustained by Permaglass rings glued at the edges. These rings are used to assembly the CGEM, together with a dedicated Vertical Insertion System and moreover they host the On-Detector electronic. The anode has been improved w.r.t. the state of the art through a jagged readout that minimize the inter-strip capacitance. The mechanical challenge of this detector requires a precision of the entire geometry within few hundreds of microns in the whole area. In this contribution an overview of the construction technique, the validation of this technique through the realization of a CGEM, and its first tests will be presented. Abstract

Using a low-background sample of 2.6 x 10(5) J/psi -> omega eta(omega -> pi(+) pi(-) pi(0), eta -> gamma gamma) events, about 5 times larger statistics than previous experiments, we present a Dalitz plot analysis of the decay omega -> pi(+) pi(-) pi(0). It is found that the Dalitz plot distribution differs from the pure P-wave phase space with a statistical significance of 18.9 sigma. The parameters from the fit to data are in reasonable agreement with those without the cross-channel effect within the dispersive framework, which indicates that the cross-channel effect in omega -> pi(+) pi(-) pi(0) is not significant.

Abstract

By analyzing an e(+)e(-) data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb(-1) taken at a centerof- mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the branching fractions of the Cabibbofavored hadronic decays D-0 -> K- pi' eta', D-0 -> K-s(0)pi(0)eta', which are determined to be (6.43 +/- 0.15(stat)+/- 0.31(syst)) x 10(-3), (2.52 +/- 0.22(stat) +/- 0.15(syst)) x 10(-3,) and (1.90 +/- 0.17(stat) +/- 0.13(syst)) x 10(-3), respectively. The precision of the branching fraction of D-0 -> K- pi(+) eta' is significantly improved, and the processes D-0 -> K-S(0)pi(0)eta' and D+ -> K-S(0) pi(+)eta' are observed for the first time.

Abstract

Based on a data sample of (448.1 +/- 2.9) x 10(6)Psi(3686) decays collected with the BESIII experiment, a search for the flavor changing neutral current transition Psi(3686) -> Lambda(+)(c) pe(+) e(-) + c.c. is performed for the first time. No signal candidates are observed and the upper limit on the branching fraction of Psi(3686) -> Lambda(+)(c) pe(+) e(-) is determined to be 1.7 x 10(-6) at the 90% confidence level. The result is consistent with expectations from the standard model, and no evidence for new physics is found.

Abstract

The process e(+)e(-) -> D*D-+(s)*(s0) (2317)(-) + c.c. is observed for the first time with the data sample of 567 pb(-1) collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider at a center-of-mass energy root s = 4.6 GeV. The statistical significance of the D*(s0) (2317)(+/-) signal is 5.8 sigma and the mass is measured to be (2318.3 +/- 1.2 +/- 1.2) MeV/c(2). The absolute branching fraction B(D*(s0) (2317)(+/-) -> pi D-0(s)+/-) is measured as 1.00(-0.14)(+0.00) (stat)(-0.14)(+0.00) (syst) for the first time. The uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

Abstract

Based on a sample of 1.31 billion J/psi events collected with the BESIII detector, we report the study of the doubly radiative decay eta' -> gamma gamma pi(0) for the first time, where the eta' meson is produced via the J/psi -> gamma eta' decay. The branching fraction of eta' -> gamma gamma pi(0) inclusive decay is measured to be B(eta' -> gamma gamma pi(0))(Incl) = (3.20 +/- 0.07(stat) +/- 0.23(sys)) x 10(-3), while the branching fractions of the dominant process eta' -> gamma omega and the non-resonant component are determined to be B(eta' -> gamma omega) x B(omega -> gamma pi(0)) = (23.7 +/- 1.4(stat) +/- 1.8(sys)) x 10(-4) and B(eta' -> gamma gamma pi(0))(NR) = (6.16 +/- 0.64(stat) +/- 0.67(sys)) x 10(-4), respectively. In addition, the M-gamma gamma(2)-dependent partial widths of the inclusive decay are also presented.

Abstract

Samples of random copolymers consisting of 1-butene modified with a low ethylene content (4, 5, 8% by weight) produced with metallocene catalysts were studied to elucidate the polymorphic behavior of this new class of materials and to characterize them from a structural, morphological, and mechanical point of view. The samples cooled down from the melt are in amorphous phase and crystallize in a mixture of form I and I′ or in pure form I′ with aging time, according to the C2 content. Infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and microscopic techniques were used to follow the changes of the material with aging time and to correlate the structural and morphological behavior with the peculiar mechanical properties that differentiate the samples with increasing C2 content. The presence, in the aged samples with higher C2 content, of the pure form I′ induces the peculiar ability to self-welding and these copolymers combine high flexibility with good elasticity and ductility and can be processed directly or used as modifying agents in polymers. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract

A 2:25 x 10(8) J/psi event sample accumulated with the BESIII detector is used to study the doubly Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka-suppressed decay modes J/psi -> gamma omega phi, omega -> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0), phi -> K+K-. A strong deviation (> 30 sigma) from three-body J/psi -> gamma omega phi phase space is observed near the omega phi mass threshold that is consistent with a previous observation reported by the BESII experiment. A partial wave analysis with a tensor covariant amplitude that assumes that the enhancement is due to the presence of a resonance, the X(1810), is performed and confirms that the spin-parity of the X(1810) is 0(++). The mass and width of the X(1810) are determined to be M = 1795 +/- 7(stat)(-5)(+13) (syst) +/- 19(mod) MeV/c(2) and Gamma = 95 +/- 10(stat)(-34)(+21)(syst) +/- 75(mod) MeV/c(2), respectively, and the product branching fraction is measured to be B(J/psi -> gamma X(1810)) x B(X(1810) -> omega phi) = (2.00 +/- 0.08(stat)(-1.00)(+0.45)(syst) +/- 1.30(mod)) x 10(-4).
