Abstract

The problems of determining effective and available sources of investment for the purposes of technical and organizational development of enterprises and business activities are studied. An urgent requirement is to reverse the unstable dynamics of the industrial investments volumes implemented by Russian enterprises, the low degree of renewal of fixed assets of enterprises that go to a critically high level of wear and tear, which does not allow for high resource productivity and competitiveness of Russian enterprises of processing activities in the world market. The purpose of the study is to consider the indicators of the current state and the possibility of using certain available sources of investment in production, to analyze the characteristics of state regulation of investment activity in the economy. The article uses methods of statistical grouping, analysis of cause-and-effect relations, and meaningful economic interpretation of the phenomena of the investment process in the Russian and world economy conditions. A comparative analysis of the most popular sources of investment support for production and economic activities of enterprises is carried out, their advantages and disadvantages, and features of use are shown. As a result, recommendations were formed on the choice of investment sources in relation to various economically stable groups of manufacturing enterprises operating in markets of different regulatory severity.

Abstract

Active ionospheric experiments using high-power, high-frequency transmitters, “heaters”, to study plasma processes in the ionosphere and magnetosphere continue to provide new insights into understanding plasma and geophysical proceses. This review describes the heating facilities, past and present, and discusses scientific results from these facilities and associated space missions. Phenomena that have been observed with these facilities are reviewed along with theoretical explanations that have been proposed or are commonly accepted. Gaps or uncertainties in understanding of heating-initiated phenomena are discussed together with proposed science questions to be addressed in the future. Suggestions for improvements and additions to existing facilities are presented including important satellite missions which are necessary to answer the outstanding questions in this field.

Abstract

AJBR is grateful to the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 for present support and acknowledges an STFC studentship that funded part of this work. Rockets and satellites have previously observed small-scale Alfven waves inside large-scale downward field-aligned currents, and numerical simulations have associated their formation with self-consistent magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling. The origin of these waves was previously attributed to ionospheric feedback instability; however, we show that they arise in numerical experiments in which the instability is excluded. A new interpretation is proposed in which strong ionospheric depletion and associated current broadening (a nonlinear steepening/wave-breaking process) form magnetosphereionosphere waves inside a downward current region and these oscillations drive upgoing inertial Alfven waves in the overlying plasma. The resulting waves are governed by characteristic periods, which are a good match to previously observed periods for reasonable assumed conditions. Meanwhile, wavelengths perpendicular to the magnetic field initially map to an ionospheric scale comparable to the electron inertial length for the low-altitude magnetosphere, but become shorter with time due to frequency-based phase mixing of boundary waves (a new manifestation of phase mixing). Under suitable conditions, these could act as seeds for the ionospheric feedback instability. Publisher PDF
