With the availability of sensor data and increased processing power, data-driven approaches have been widely investigated to improve various production processes. It is easier to keep track of faults that are hard to perceive during an operation through data-driven conditionmonitoring systems. In addition, the operator or the supervisor of the processes can recognize the need for service in time and provide maintenance. A defect in agricultural machinery can reduce the quality of fieldwork noticeably and cause damages to the crops as well as to the machine itself. Moreover, such damages and low-quality work in agriculture are expensive to fix and sometimes even irreversible. Thus, it is crucial to develop intelligent condition monitoring systems for agricultural machinery. Specifically, machines with rotating components, such as disc mowers, are prone to damage if they are frequently deployed in places where they might hit solid objects. These anomalies cannot always be easily recognized by the operator and may cause suboptimal results. This paper proposes concepts of condition monitoring for a disc mower to optimize the mowing operation. In this study, the first concepts of deep learning-based systems were developed to provide notifications to the operator when a failure occurs

The development of short-wave infrared (SWIR) photonics based on GeSn alloys is of high technological interest for many application fields, such as the Internet of things or pollution monitoring. The manufacture of crystalline GeSn is a major challenge, mainly because of the low miscibility of Ge and Sn. The use of embedded GeSn nanocrystals (NCs) by magnetron sputtering is a cost-effective and efficient method to relax the growth conditions. We report on the use of GeSn/SiO2multilayer deposition as a way to control the NC size and their insulation. The in situprenucleation of NCs during deposition was followed by ex siturapid thermal annealing. The nanocrystallization of 20×(11nm_Ge0.865Sn0.135/1.5nm_SiO2) multilayers leads to formation of GeSn NCs with ∼16% Sn concentration and ∼9 nm size. Formation of GeSn domes that are vertically correlated contributes to the nanocrystallization process. The absorption limit of ∼0.4 eV in SWIR found by ellipsometry is in agreement with the spectral photosensitivity. The ITO/20×(GeSn NC/SiO2)/p-Si/Al diodes show a maximum value of the SWIR photosensitivity at a reverse voltage of 0.5 V, with extended sensitivity to wavelengths longer than 2200 nm. The multilayer diodes have higher photocurrent efficiency compared to diodes based on a thick monolayer of GeSn NCs.

As presepsin levels increase with kidney dysfunction (KD), our aim was to establish cutoff points for presepsin adapted to the level of KD in order to avoid bacterial infection overdiagnosis, antibiotic overprescription, and risk of bacterial resistance. This is a unicenter retrospective study, which included all patients admitted on an emergency basis to 2 departments of a teaching hospital during a 2-year interval to whom presepsin level was determined at the emergency department prior to admission. Serum creatinine (sCrt) was employed to estimate the severity of KD using 3 thresholds (1.5, 2, and 4 mg/dL) resulting in 4 degrees of severity: KD_1, KD_2, KD_3, KD_4. There is an ascending exponential relationship between presepsin and sCrt: presepsin = 600.03e0.212sCrt. Presepsin levels are significantly different between the patients with KD_1, KD_2, KD_3, and KD_4. In the receiver operating characteristic curves exploring the usefulness of presepsin in sepsis diagnosis, the area under the curve was satisfactory for KD_1 (0.78), KD_2 (0.78), and KD_3 (0.82), but unacceptably low for KD_4 (0.59), while the optimal cutoff points were (depending on the computational method) 700/ 982, 588/ 1125, 1065, and 2260 pg/mL for KD_1, KD_2, KD_3, and KD_4 respectively. The threshold for abnormal presepsin should be about 600, 1000, and 1300 pg/mL in patients with KD_1, KD_2, and KD_3, respectively. In patients with KD_4, presepsin has a poor discriminating power for sepsis diagnosis. If, notwithstanding, it is used for this purpose, the cutoff point should be at least at 2200.

Abstract. Bacterial cellulose-silver (BC-silver) composites are known as biomaterials with good antimicrobial properties. The aim of this paper is to present a green route to produce antibacterial BC-silver composites using Curcuma longa tuber powder (turmeric) extract as reducing agent. The effect of medium pH and immersion time in the turmeric extract upon the silver nanoparticles was studied. The synthesis of silver nanoparticles deposited on bacterial cellulose was confirmed by ultraviolet-visible (UV-VIS) spectral studies, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX). The antibacterial activity of the nanocomposites was studied by inhibition zone method against Escherichia coli K12-MG1655, all the composites having a good antimicrobial activity.

Contextualization or frame of reference (FOR, Schimt, Ryan, Stierwalt, & Powell, 1995) is usually considered through the lens of predictive validity. By using the BCG (1965) equation, the present study investigates also the financial estimates that often are overviewed by decision makers. Two selection procedures were obtained by contextualization of the personality inventory and used to hire 36 individuals in an entry-level position. Results indicated that contextualization added a greater incremental validity in selection model that associated to financial incomes up to 56700 euro/per year.

Improving predictive validity of personality inventory in the context of personnel selection is an actual concern among researchers. We tested the effect of frame of reference (FOR) on the predictive validity of a Big Five measure in the context of personnel selection, where other two predictors were contained. The sample size was realistic for a small business enterprise (N=36). Agreeability was the only dimension showing predictive validity (FOR effect). Results suggested also that narrow dimensions were more useful predictors in the contextualized measure of personality adding incremental validity over cognitive ability and job knowledge.

AbstractCreatively harnessing the zeitgeist, or spirit of the times, and translating its influence into unique, timely, and marketable merchandise has been the key to survival of fashion-focused companies since the dawn of the twentieth century. We combined a cognitive perspective on creativity with cultural materialism to develop probing questions for a grounded theory study of the question: How does the creative process for design and development function in the global fashion industry of the twenty-first century?A typology for creativity in fashion design and development emerged from data gathered in a series of in-depth interviews in an international context. We defined Leadership Creativityand Adaptive Creativityat extreme ends of a continuum. Leadership Creativityoverrules current archetypes and shifts the sector in a new direction while Adaptive Creativityintegrates existing paradigms into a direction the sector is already trending. This typology outlines eight descriptive attributes relating to the environment in which fashion design and development functions, and designates distinct components of those attributes that categorize the creative type. The majority of work in fashion design and development today reflects Adaptive Creativity. Specifically naming and describing these attributes and the interplay between Leadership Creativityand Adaptive Creativity, the typology lends structure to otherwise ambiguous parameters related to creativity in fashion design and development.

They can provide information on the dynamics of the evolution of performance capacity, the structures or systems of action exercises, methods used in the process of training volume and intensity, duration of pauses, their nature, estimated amount of claims, evaluation forms and their dates, duration of each component.

‘Eat your food, child, or else the Turk will come and take you away’. This is a common Greek stereotype about the Turks, illustrating them as bogeyman. But why Greeks have a bad image of their eastern neighbors? The present study has its source of inspiration in a wider research we are currently undergoing, related to the Greek-Turkish relations in the second half of the 20thcentury and the stereotypes about the Turkish people, promoted by the Greek media. In this paper we aim at remonstrating that the Greek press reinforces ethnic categorization and stereotypes during the bilateral crises, thus cultivating a negative image of the neighbor.

The present study focuses on the main characteristics of the language used to depict the Turks in the Greek press during the bilateral crises in the Aegean Sea. Our purpose is to remonstrate that after 1974, the Greek daily newspapers displayed and promoted nationalist attitudes and stereotypes on Turks through textual and visual messages by reinforcing national myths and stereotypes popularized in the Greek history textbooks of primary and secondary education.

The research we refer to is intended as an analysis of the main characteristics of the educational language used to depict the Turks in the Greek history textbooks. Nationalist attitudes are a common feature in many school texts. Our purpose is to remonstrate that the Greek textbooks contain and promote stereotypes on Turks through textual and visual messages, in a period of bilateral tension caused by the Aegean dispute over the continental shelf and other issues of high politics.

In contrast with transitional metals whose spectra and color depends a lot of the ligands strength field, the sensitivity of the rare earth spectra is significantly weaker. This is the reason why the color of these ions is the same whatever the basic vitreous matrix. These properties permit to establish a relation for the determination of the concentration of these ions in vitreous matrix directly from the optical transmission spectra. The paper presents some samples of silica and phosphate glasses with lanthanides content for nonlinear optical applications synthesized at a laboratory scale. VIS-NIR transmission curves are presented, for several compositions. For the correlation of the lanthanides content with the specific optical absorption peak one used a method starting from the Lambert – Beer law. For the Nd2O3 concentration determination, it was used a method proposed by D.M. Dood and D.B. Fraser for the OH groups content, with an error of +4%. For specific peaks, expressions for lanthanides concentration in ppm, related to the optical transmission were found. A possibility appears to directly find the lanthanides concentration from the absorption coefficient at specific wavelengths for each vitreous matrix. The influence of matrix is discussed.

Alkaline earth metal silicates as well as many polyvalent metals silicates can be obtained through aqueous solutions reactions between an alkaline silicate solution and the solutions of metal salts. The vitrifiation of the oxide compositions, established by the necessary molar ratios for the projected glass, is realised by calculating the concentration of chemical precursors, through their reaction directly on the substrate. The sodium silicate viscosity in aqueous solution and the viscosity of nitrogenated compounds or oxalates necessary in the silicates synthesis is compatible with the necessary viscosity for ink-jet cartridges. The necessary silicates forming reactions were studied directly on the deposition support, so that the functional characteristics of the multicompartment ink-jet cartridges were used. Compositions were realised, in which the colouring effect was obtained with ionic colorants. The vitrifiation and the quality of the obtained thin films were studied through Optical Microscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy.

In current practice, spent fuel is most commonly stored in a special basin of distilled or demineralised water for a required time period to reduce the amount of heat generated by radioactive decay to a level that can permit reprocessing. The processes taking place inside the spent fuel induce complex processes in the storage basin. The loss of water from the storage basin by means of simultaneous heat and mass transfer between water and the surrounding air is the case analysed in this paper by modelling. The developed model can be easily coupled with others, particularly models providing a consistent explanation of known situations (oxygen delivery from the basin, discharging of gases generated by processes from the fuel, increasing of the water activity, etc.). In this paper, some concrete references are related to the spent fuel storage facility at Magurele, Romania.
