Background: Learning analytics (LA) is a tool for gathering, analysing, and interpreting data related to student's learning behaviour, engagement, and performance. As the student data collected by the institutions are used to construct LA, it is essential to understand the acceptance and readiness of the students regarding the implementation of LA., Methods: A sequential mixed method research design was used in this study. A validated questionnaire was distributed to undergraduate students of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy programmes to collect their general views on LA. Focus group interviews with a total of 18 students were conducted to explore their perceptions in depth, followed by thematic analysis of the transcribed data., Results: Generally, the students were aware of their demographic data, utilisation of learning management system and academic performance data being collected by the university. They were agreeable for collection of those data which had direct association with their learning to be used for LA. However, they expressed concerns about the privacy, confidentiality, and security of the collected data. Three themes emerged from the interviews, i.e., self-regulated learning, evidence-based decision making and data management. The students perceived that LA could help them to monitor achievement of learning outcomes and provide support for individualised learning paths through recommendations of learning resources and learning motivation. They also opined that LA could help educators and institutions by providing feedback on teaching and learning methods, resource allocation and interventions to create conducive learning environment., Conclusions: LA is a useful tool to support self-regulated learning, however, precautions should be exercised during implementation to ensure data privacy and security., Competing Interests: Declarations. Background: Access to eye care in rural Nigeria remains limited, as most optometrists work in urban areas. This study explores the factors influencing Nigerian optometry students' decision to work in rural settings after graduation., Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 400 optometry students from ten accredited Nigerian universities. The students were surveyed on their preferences regarding rural practice and the factors affecting their decisions., Results: The majority of respondents (81.3%) were not inclined to establish their first optometric practice in rural areas, with poor living conditions (26.34%) being the most common deterrent. However, a significant proportion (52.8%) expressed willingness to consider establishing subsequent practices in rural areas. Motivation to help the community (56.6%) and the potential to enhance their optometric practice (74.6%) were key drivers for rural practice. Chi-square test revealed that participants' year of study had a significant influence on their preference to practice in rural areas (p < 0.05). However, there was no significant connection between participants' gender and place of origin, and their preference for rural practice (p > 0.05)., Conclusion: While many students, particularly from urban backgrounds, are reluctant to initiate practice in rural areas after graduation, primarily due to concerns over living conditions. In contrast, students from rural backgrounds show a higher likelihood of considering rural practice, especially within NGOs or the public sector. Background: Oral health care programs offer a platform for experiential learning that include prospects for skills development; opportunities for knowledge application and for the creation of an awareness of community responsibilities. Gaining experience in the care for special needs patients is ideally achieved through exposure in special needs settings such as the school community., Aim: This study investigated the perceptions and reflections of experiential learning by final year oral hygiene students in a special need's oral health care program at the University of Western Cape., Methods: This study incorporated a concurrent triangulation study design that included final year Oral Hygiene students who participated in a special need's oral health care program. Students completed an on-line self-administered questionnaire, a reflective journal and participated in a focus group discussion., Results: All respondents understood the concept of experiential learning. The predominant dispositions that emerged included student adaptation, awareness, empathy, and experience which were regarded as particularly important for personal growth. With regards to academic growth, facets of confidence, theory translation, clinical skill development and improved communication were identified as critical elements in development. Challenges included lack of cooperation from the learners and lack of kills in non-verbal communication. An increased awareness and a strong willingness to participate in community projects was also reported amongst the student respondents., Conclusion: The experiential learning opportunity in the school-based special needs oral health care program was invaluable to the children as well as the students. This community -based program supported personal and academic growth and it provided authentic learning opportunities; facilitated professional development, improved clinical skills and competence, enhanced problem solving and communication skills and raised awareness on social responsibility. Challenges experienced pertained to cooperation and communication with the children. Suggestions included maintaining access to care for the children through oral care program initiatives, as well as ongoing rotation of Oral Hygiene students who are ideally positioned to provide promotive and preventive oral care to special needs individuals. Background: The World Health Organization defines interprofessional education (IPE) as a process in which students from different health care programs work together to provide effective care while deepening their knowledge of each other's roles. Previous literature shows a strong argument for early exposure to IPE as a facilitator for high quality patient care. The goal of IPE is to improve interprofessional collaboration (IPC), the "gold standard" of care to enhance patients' quality of life, functional ability, and health status, especially for patients who require expertise from a variety of health care professionals. IPC has shown improvements in quality of life, functional ability, and health status. IPE can occur in the form of structured interventions or spontaneously in student placements. Literature has demonstrated that IPE facilitates skill, knowledge development, teamwork, communication skills, and mutual respect among health care professional students., Objective: This systematic review aims to examine IPE outcomes, including readiness for IPC, IPE perceptions, attitudes toward collaborative learning, student confidence, practice efficiency, and team dynamics after IPE interventions in rehabilitation science students., Methods: The study will be conducted as outlined by the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews and will be reported per the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting of Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) 2015 guidelines. Students have performed literature searches across the databases MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, ERIC, Web of Science, and AMED. Studies will be included if their IPE intervention included multiple prelicensure health care professional students in a health care or health care education setting. Based on timelines presented in the Institute of Medicine's report on the impacts of IPE, relevant studies from 2016 to the present will be included. The Risk of Bias 2 tool will be used to study sources of bias. The GRADE (Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation) working group's methods will be used to evaluate the quality of the evidence presented. The final 3 authors are assisting as supervisors, providing oversight and feedback as needed. Any deviations from this protocol will be reported in the final paper., Results: The search strategy was finalized and searched across the databases by March 8, 2024. The systematic review was registered with PROSPERO on March 31, 2024. A total of 10,692 citations were retrieved for abstract and title screening, beginning in March 2024, and 756 were eligible for full-text screening in April 2024. Six articles were considered for inclusion and data extraction, which began in July 2024. Finalization of the extracted data and paper will occur in September 2024., Conclusions: This systematic review will provide a summary of the effects of IPE interventions in prelicensure rehabilitation science students. It will provide educators, health care providers, and students with valuable information for understanding the relevance of IPE. Background: The study aims to assess the situational judgment capability of students in various professions, including medicine, surgical nursing, anesthesia nursing, and emergency medical technology, using a validated and adapted Situational Judgment Test (SJT)., Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted at Qom University of Medical Sciences in 2023-2024. The study consisted of two steps: (1) adaptation and validity assessment of the SJT in various health professions, and (2) evaluation of students' situational judgment capability using the adapted SJT. Participants included 207 students from surgical nursing, anesthesia nursing, medicine, and emergency medical technology departments, selected through stratified random sampling. The SJT included 10 constructed-response scenarios developed by Alkhuzaee and colleagues in 2022. The validation and adaptation process utilized consensus methods, and the SJT was modified to a selected response format based on a knowledge-based approach. Scores ranged from 0 to 30. Cohen's method and norm-referencing standard deviation were used to calculate a cut-off score. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency, mean, standard deviation) and inferential statistics (independent t-test, ANOVA, and ANCOVA)., Results: The face and content validity of the adapted SJT with a selected-response format was confirmed by expert agreement. The reliability of the SJT was approved, with a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.81. The mean score of students' situational judgment in professionalism was 11.90 (SD 4.54). Students' professions significantly impacted their situational judgment scores (F (3.201) = 3.67, p = 0.01, Partial Eta Squared = 0.052)., Conclusion: The adaption and validation of SJT with a selected response format were confirmed by experts who evaluated the situational judgment capabilities of students in different clinical professions. The reliability of the SJT was acceptable-Cohen's method as a standard-setting approach assisted in identifying students needing support and training. Background: Academic performance is the extent to which a student, teacher, or institution has attained their short- or long-term educational goals and is measured either by continuous assessment or cumulative grade point average (CGPA). Good academic performance is defined as the students who scored a cumulative GPA of 3 and above. Even though few studies were done in Ethiopia, there was no clear evidence regarding the role of cognitive and learning issues such as academic competence, test competence, time management, strategic studying, and test anxiety on the academic performance of students., Objective: To assess the magnitude academic performance and its associated factors among health science students at Eastern Ethiopian universities., Method: An institution based cross sectional study design was implemented on a total of 924 regular undergraduate students of eastern Ethiopian universities. Good academic performance was measured as the students who scored a cumulative GPA of three and above. The study participants were selected using simple random sampling techniques, and a self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data. The collected data was entered and analyzed using SPSS version 25 software. A P-value < 0.2 at bivariate to select variables for multivariable and < 0.05 at multivariable with 95% CI was considered statistical significance., Result: A total of 924 participants were included, with a response rate of 98.7%. The overall magnitude of good academic performance among health science students at Eastern Ethiopia University's was 70.5%, with a 95% CI = 67%- 73%. Residence [AOR = 2.8, 95% CI = 1.9-3.93], not having a sexual partner [AOR = 2.47, 95% CI = 1.64-3.72], good test competence [AOR = 1.94, 95% CI = 1.4-2.6], good time management [AOR = 2.29, 95% CI = 1.86-3.15], and good strategic study [AOR = 1.81, 95% CI = 1.33-2.45] were significantly associated with good academic performance., Conclusion: Increased odds of good academic performance were observed among students with rural residence, sexual partner, good test competence, good time management, and strategic study. Background: This research explores the relationships between the educational environment, student engagement, and academic achievement in Health Professions Education (HPE) , specifically examining the mediating role of engagement., Methods: The study used cross-sectional design, and data were collected from 554 HPE students via self-report questionnaires. The Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure (DREEM) assessed the educational environment while the University Student Engagement Inventory measured learning engagement across the behavioral, emotional, and cognitive dimensions. Academic achievement was measured using cumulative GPA. Relationships between study variables were analyzed using path analysis., Results: Path analysis demonstrated that four educational environment subscales directly affected emotional engagement (48% variance explained). Students' perception of learning and academic self-perceptions influenced behavioral engagement (28% variance explained), while cognitive engagement was influenced by academic self-perceptions (39% variance explained). GPA was positively influenced by behavioral and cognitive engagement but negatively by emotional engagement. Cognitive and behavioral engagement mediated the relationship between students' academic self-perceptions and academic achievement., Conclusions: Students' perceptions of the educational environment significantly influenced emotional engagement, followed by cognitive and behavioral engagement. Background and Objective: Health literacy is the cognitive and social abilities that influence a person's motivation and capacity to learn, comprehend, and use information to improve and maintain good health. We aimed to investigate Healthcare Students' knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding Health Literacy in the Riyadh Province of Saudi Arabia., Methods: This study used prevalidated electronic questionnaires among healthcare undergraduates from colleges affiliated with Saudi University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from December to April 2024. Healthcare students were asked to answer a self-designed online questionnaire sent to them through social media platforms., Results: The response rate was 560 out of 600 (93.3%); 293 of the 560 students (52.3%) were aged between 23 and 24 years (mean age was 21.29 SD = 1.852). The mean GPA among the students was 4.31(± 0.682). The average overall score for health literacy among healthcare students was 100.92 ± 11.80. The mean scores for knowledge were 24.17 ± 4.67, attitudes were 38.65 ± 4.20, and practice in health literacy was 38.09 ± 5.09. Among all healthcare students, 50.2% reported good knowledge, 54.1% had good attitudes, and 50.1% exhibited good practices in health literacy. However, students' knowledge (p = 0.019) and training (p = 0.024) in health literacy were significantly associated with smoking cigarettes. Additionally, smoking shisha was significantly associated with students' knowledge (p = 0.022), attitudes (p = 0.001), and practices (p = 0.001) in health literacy., Conclusion: Our study highlights that half of the healthcare students reported limited knowledge, attitude, and practice in health literacy. Age, gender, and course of study did not show significant differences. Rather, students who did not smoke cigarettes or shisha were found to have higher knowledge, attitudes, and practice in health literacy compared to smokers. Purpose: The current study revisits our previous research, delving deeper into microaggressions (MAs) and interpersonal conflict (IC) in speech, language, and hearing sciences (SLHS) training programs. Participants came from both marginalized and nonmarginalized backgrounds., Method: A 39-item electronic survey based on our previous research was distributed online to 236 participants of current and former SLHS students through social media and e-mail listservs., Results: Students that identified as belonging to marginalized and nonmarginalized groups reported high levels of MAs and IC, respectively. Linear regression revealed that the more marginalized identities a participant reported, the more aggression they experienced. Analyses also suggest that specific cultural and linguistic identities more likely predicted experiencing specific types of MAs than others. MAs and IC were largely underreported., Conclusions: This study highlights the quantifiable prevalence of MAs and IC in SLHS training programs. It underscores the urgent need for targeted interventions to address systemic inequities. Promoting peace with patients requires clinicians to be skilled in helping patients feel safe, respected, and heard. Close listening is a teachable skill set that enables clinicians to focus sensory attention on a patient and to cultivate space for reflection before speaking. While communication skills are taught in health professions education, close listening is rarely formally emphasized as an equally important skill. Background: Together with addressing social determinants of health, culturally safe healthcare provision is essential for closing the health outcomes gap experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (Indigenous) Australians. Rural placements potentially provide students of the health professions with opportunities to enhance their knowledge and skills regarding cultural safety. We used rural placements data systematically collected from allied health students, including commencement- and end-of-placement questionnaire responses, to investigate the determinants of confidence in working with Indigenous people., Methods: The study comprised data from all students who provided survey data at both commencement and end of their first placement directly supervised by the administering University Department of Rural Health during the period 2019-2022. Five-point ordered responses to the question 'How confident do you feel about working with Aboriginal people?' were used to assess student and placement-related determinants of confidence (Confident/Very confident versus other) at baseline and increased confidence (≥ 1 point) during the placement using crude and adjusted multivariable robust Poisson regression., Results: Participating students (N = 489) were from diverse allied health disciplines (including pharmacy n = 94, 19.2%; chiropractic n= 66, 13.5%; physiotherapy n= 65, 13.3%; social work n = 59, 12.1%; and occupational therapy 58, 11.9%). Confidence in dealing with Aboriginal people was lower at commencement among females compared with males (adjusted relative risk [aRR] 0.65; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.53-0.80), and higher among students of Australian rural origin compared with others (aRR 1.49; CI 1.22-1.83) and those who reported previous experience working with Indigenous people compared with those reporting none (aRR 1.40; CI 1.14-1.72). Placement attributes associated with increased confidence working with Indigenous people between placement commencement and end were interaction with Indigenous people within the placement (aRR 2.32; CI 1.24-4.34), placement model reflecting more structured academic supervision (aRR 1.18; CI 1.02-1.37), and placement length (aRR per additional day 1.002; CI 1.001-1.004). These associations were robust to modelling that accounted for a ceiling effect on increased confidence., Conclusions: While influenced by students' demographic attributes and prior experiences, confidence of allied health students in working with Indigenous people is enhanced during rural placements, particularly through direct contact with Indigenous people., (© 2024. Research into metacognitive processes within interprofessional clinical simulation has been largely overlooked in the literature. This study explores how interprofessional simulation may influence cognitive and metacognitive processes across several professional programmes; medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and occupational therapy. This study focused on changes in performance pre- and post-simulation, with undergraduate students from each profession answering a set of questions related to the simulation case, requiring specialized knowledge from each profession. Question scores, item confidence judgment ratings, and calibration values were collected and analyzed. The data revealed a pattern of convergence in post-simulation assessments, where professions initially with lower performance in the pre-simulation phase improved, and those initially performing well demonstrating a decline in performance. Calibration values indicated that medical students developed metacognitive errors from their interactions in the simulation, which were not present pre-simulation, and that occupational therapy students suffered a loss of confidence and calibration in questions within their own field resulting from their experience (being more accurate pre-simulation). The authors anticipate that the phenomenon of convergence may have longer-term consequences, potentially fostering distrust among professions for those with declining performance. The authors propose that expanding awareness of convergence phenomena and conducting repeated simulations (thus facilitating further team development) could mitigate this issue.

Interprofessional education (IPE) is vital for preparing a competent health workforce. Despite the proven benefits of interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP), barriers to its implementation persist. Given the importance of health professionals' perspectives for IPCP success, we investigated the perceptions of IPCP among final-year health science students at Khon Kaen University, Thailand, while they transition into practice. A cross-sectional online survey conducted from February to April 2023 included 989 students across six health science disciplines, with a response rate of 57.8%. Using the SPICE-R2 questionnaire on a five-point Likert-type scale, we assessed perceptions related to interprofessional teamwork, roles and responsibilities, and patient outcomes. Results showed significant diversity in IPCP perceptions and experiences with IPE. Nursing students consistently demonstrated the highest IPCP perceptions, while medical and public health students scored the lowest. Positive perceptions about IPCP were notably associated with nursing students and those satisfied with the learning process. Dentistry students and those with IPE experience also exhibited more favorable views on teamwork. This study suggests the need to address disparities in IPCP perceptions among student groups, which is essential for enhancing interprofessional collaboration in future health professionals.

This report describes an innovative interprofessional education collaborative practice (IPCP) experience for rehabilitation professions students using a unique on-campus camp model through a community-academic partnership. Throughout the three-day camp, known as the Bright Ideas TBI Camp, interprofessional student groups deliver tailored health and wellness services to individuals with disabilities due to traumatic brain injury and their caregivers. Initial program evaluation suggests that this camp model offers an effective IPCP experience for students while addressing community health needs. Further outcome evaluation is needed to determine the impact of the camp on students' development of IPCP competencies and health outcomes of clients and caregivers.

Objective: To understand the biopsychosocial dimensions of university health sciences students' experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants: Health sciences students ( n  = 297) from two universities in July and August 2020. Methods: Participants completed a Web-based survey asking about depression, anxiety, physical activity, coronavirus threat, and career commitment. Results: Moderate or severe depression and anxiety were reported by 28.6% and 31.3% of respondents, respectively. Depression and anxiety were positively correlated with perceived coronavirus threat and negatively correlated with career commitment and strenuous physical activity. A change in career commitment interests during the COVID-19 pandemic was reported by 11% of respondents. Conclusions: Identified factors that could be targeted by universities to support their students and secure career commitment include online learning challenges, ability to secure clinical placements, mental health (anxiety and depression), financial challenges, family pressure, and promotion of physical activity.

Background and Introduction: Pain is a subjective phenomenon, that is often misunderstood and invalidated. Despite recent advances in health professional training, it remains unclear how students should be taught about the subjectivity of pain. This study explored how a novel teaching activity that integrated physiotherapy students' first-hand experiences with laboratory-induced pain could address this gap., Objective: The study aimed to explore the experiences and perceptions of physiotherapy students in relation to a workshop where physiotherapy students experienced laboratory induced pain., Methods: We used a descriptive qualitative research design. Eighteen students participated in interviews. Transcripts were analyzed using an inductive conventional content analysis., Results: We identified four overarching themes: 1) First-hand pain experiences facilitated engagement in learning; 2) Reflecting on these personal and peer pain experiences helped students make sense of pain; 3) The learning activity helped students understand the inherent subjectivity and complexity of pain; and 4) Students saw benefits for clinical practice., Conclusion: Integrating first-hand pain experiences within entry-level physiotherapy training appears to have novel value in helping students understand pain subjectivity. Future research should use robust and controlled designs to explore how this novel approach can be used to facilitate further understanding and empathy within clinical interactions with people living with pain.

Teaching students to 'notice' what is happening around them, to be more attuned to what is going on within themselves, and nurturing self-inquiry into one's practice is desirable yet difficult to achieve. We sought to teach the metacognitive skill of 'noticing' to pre-registration health professions students in the context of interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP). A three-part curriculum was designed: an e-module focused on 'noticing' in IPCP; a team-based workplace learning observation and interprofessional debrief; and a written reflective assignment. We found that students concentrated on the disciplinary content of IPCP in the assignments, which 'overshadowed' the metacognitive content. We learned that: we had underestimated the challenges of retrofitting new content into existing curricula; that we had not paid enough attention to students' perceptions about what they want to learn; and working with a large and diverse group of educators requires adequate preparation. The next iteration of this program will improve the constructive alignment between learning outcomes and assessments and provide better support for educators. In the future we will temper decisions to act quickly to implement curricular innovations. More broadly, we suggest that educational design that seeks to take account of qualitatively different but intersecting knowledge domains, such as IPCP and 'noticing', is worthy of further study.

Objective: This study aimed to explore the preprofessional identity of undergraduate nutrition and dietetic students to guide curriculum development to better support the expectations of students and promote career readiness in a changing profession., Design: Qualitative focus group discussions in March, 2021., Setting: An Australian university., Participants: First-year students enrolled in the Bachelor of Nutrition (n = 50) or Bachelor of Dietetics (n = 58) at the University of the Sunshine Coast., Main Outcome Measures: Student sociodemographics, motivations for and influences on career choice and preprofessional identity, expectations of professional competency and practice, degree, and career expectations., Analysis: Descriptive statistics were conducted, and focus group discussions were analyzed using the Framework Approach., Results: Motivations and skills were consistent across both cohorts, centering on an interest in nutrition and respectful, professional conduct and communication. Expectations were similar across both degrees, with a focus on placement, real-world learning experiences, and staff support. Career expectations for both cohorts included business ownership., Conclusions and Implications: This research provided an understanding of students' preprofessional identity, which was similar for both nutrition and dietetics students. Background: Peer assisted learning (PAL) has become increasingly popular in higher education, and a range of benefits have been reported for students. However, there is scant knowledge on PAL study groups in physiotherapy undergraduate training., Objectives: This study aimed to generate in-depth knowledge about the experiences of PAL study groups from the perspective of physiotherapy students., Methods: We conducted focus group interviews with 15 first-semester students who had attended PAL study groups, and 8 third-semester students who had been PAL leaders. The interviews were analyzed using an inductive, thematic analysis., Results: Four main themes were generated: 1) An overwhelming transition - Eased by PAL study groups; 2) The significant role model - Creating safe learning environments; 3) Building a bridge between theory and practice through scaffolding; and 4) Time to mature and filtered knowledge., Conclusion: Overall, we found that PAL study groups formed an important community of practice, and that the PAL leaders became important role models, providing academic, social, and emotional support. Students learning from students in PAL study groups seemed beneficial to bridge theory and practice. Our findings support the implementation of PAL study groups as a supplement to formal teaching and suggest that PAL aids students' transition to the university environment.

Objectives: This study addresses the growing importance of health economics and pharmacoeconomics in preparing healthcare professionals for economic decision-making, particularly in China's evolving healthcare system. Despite their significance, these subjects are inconsistently included in health education in Southwest China, making it crucial to assess students' proficiency and educational needs., Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from July to October 2023, involving medical and pharmaceutical programs across universities in Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou, and Yunnan. Data on students' knowledge, attitudes, and proficiency were captured using a structured questionnaire. Advanced statistical methods, including descriptive analysis, ANOVA, regression analysis, PCA, and Spearman correlation heatmaps, were employed for data analysis using IBM SPSS and Python. The sample consisted of 781 students, with the survey facilitated via the Questionnaire Star platform., Results: The survey revealed moderate comprehension of health economics and pharmacoeconomics among 781 health-related students, with an average knowledge score of 2.9. The majority were pharmacy students (45.58%) and aged 21-24 years (65.81%) with a significant female majority (64.92%). Academic year significantly influenced understanding, while gender differences were minimal. Spearman correlation indicated a strong linkage (0.78) between Supply and Demand and Cost Effectiveness, with minimal correlations between knowledge and attitudes towards the educational importance of health economics. Multiple regression analysis highlighted the impact of gender and academic progression on students' comprehension of Supply and Demand concepts, as well as the influence of knowledge levels on their attitudes towards the importance of health economics education. PCA indicated the complex structure of knowledge and attitudes., Conclusions: The study found moderate knowledge levels in health economics among health professions students in Southwest China, with academic year affecting comprehension and minimal gender differences. Objective: to map the literature on the incorporation of the metaverse in the education of undergraduate healthcare students., Method: scoping review following the recommendations of the JBI and Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR), performed on Web of Science, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) via PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health (CINAHL), Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS) and ProQuest., Results: a total of 23 records were included, published between 2020 and 2023, and developed in 10 countries. The metaverse allows the simulation of hypothetical cases, making education interactive and attractive. However, it faces limitations, including the possibility of depersonalizing students, concerns about data security and privacy, and the high cost of implementing and maintaining its infrastructure., Conclusion: the metaverse enables the development of clinical competencies that support the construction of students' professional identity. Background: Sleep and mental health are intimately related and shown to impact graduate students enrolled in health sciences programs, including physical therapy education. Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) students' attitudes and behaviors surrounding sleep and whether these factors are associated with mental health are unknown. This study aimed to describe sleep behaviors and attitudes of entry-level DPT students and to explore the relationship between subjectively reported sleep quality and self-reported symptoms of anxiety in these students., Methods: A cross-sectional online survey consisting of the Sleep Practices and Attitudes Questionnaire (SPAQ), the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) questionnaire, and demographic questions were used. Analyses investigated sleep behaviors and attitudes, along with the relationship (unadjusted odds ratio) between restless sleep and anxiety in DPT students in hybrid and traditional DPT programs across the United States (US)., Results: A total of 271 DPT students completed the survey. A majority of students reported feeling tired during most days (80.8%, n = 219), a quarter of participants (24.7%) reported having a history of trouble sleeping and four (1.5%) reported being diagnosed with a sleep disorder. Of those who reported their sleep duration, participants slept an average of 6.86 h. The mean GAD-7 score was 7.68 (SD = 4.90), suggestive of mild anxiety. Sixty-seven (24.7%) reported having a diagnosed anxiety disorder, with generalized anxiety being the most common diagnosis. Those who reported having restless sleep were 4.09 times more likely to have moderate to severe anxiety [unadjusted odds ratio = 4.09 (95% CI 2.27,7.35; p < 0.001)] compared to those who reported restful sleep., Conclusions: DPT students who rated sleep as restless exhibit signs of poor subjective sleep quality associated with an increased risk of experiencing moderate to severe anxiety compared to students who had restful sleep. Students reported behaviors surrounding sleep that may contribute to anxiety. Background: Resilience contributes to mental well-being, hence expediting recovery from stressful events. Health professions students, in particular, often experience heightened levels of stress and anxiety due to academic demands and other stressors. This study aimed to explore the factors contributing to resilience and identify support systems that universities can implement to help undergraduate health professions students build resilience and manage their mental well-being., Methods: A total of 28 students from the fields of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Dietetics and Nutrition participated in semi-structured interviews. All interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. The interviews were stopped when data saturation was achieved. The data were analysed using thematic analysis., Results: Thematic analysis of the interviews identified five key themes contributing to resilience: life experience, socioeconomic factors, personal attributes, support resources, and role modelling. Universities play a crucial role in fostering resilience among health professions students through soft skills training, workplace-oriented training, mentoring, and extracurricular activities. These opportunities enable students to develop and strengthen resilience in both formal and informal settings. Such initiatives not only equip students to manage future career challenges but also support their overall personal and professional development., Conclusions: This study provided a comprehensive understanding of the contributing factors to health professions students' resilience. The availability of support resources together with a nurturing environment provided by university are crucial. Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming health profession education (HPE) through personalized learning technologies. HPE students must also learn about AI to understand its impact on healthcare delivery. We examined HPE students' AI-related knowledge and attitudes, and perceived challenges in integrating AI in HPE., Methods: This cross-sectional included medical, nursing, physiotherapy, and clinical nutrition students from four public universities in Jordan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Egypt. Data were collected between February and October 2023 via an online survey that covered five main domains: benefits of AI in healthcare, negative impact on patient trust, negative impact on the future of healthcare professionals, inclusion of AI in HPE curricula, and challenges hindering integration of AI in HPE., Results: Of 642 participants, 66.4% reported low AI knowledge levels. The UAE had the largest proportion of students with low knowledge (72.7%). The majority (54.4%) of participants had learned about AI outside their curriculum, mainly through social media (66%). Overall, 51.2% expressed positive attitudes toward AI, with Egypt showing the largest proportion of positive attitudes (59.1%). Although most participants viewed AI in healthcare positively (91%), significant variations were observed in other domains. The majority (77.6%) supported integrating AI in HPE, especially in Egypt (82.3%). A perceived negative impact of AI on patient trust was expressed by 43.5% of participants, particularly in Egypt (54.7%). Only 18.1% of participants were concerned about the impact of AI on future healthcare professionals, with the largest proportion from Egypt (33.0%). Some participants (34.4%) perceived AI integration as challenging, notably in the UAE (47.6%). Common barriers included lack of expert training (53%), awareness (50%), and interest in AI (41%)., Conclusion: This study clarified key considerations when integrating AI in HPE. Background: Obesity among healthcare students (HCs)is a growing concern that needs to be addressed. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the knowledge, awareness, perceptions, practice, and preparedness of obesity, and associated factors among undergraduate HCs., Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from December 2023 to March 2024 using an online prevalidated questionnaire, to assess clinical aspects of obesity.Simple random sampling was applied for data collection from nursing, emergency medical services (EMS), and pharmacy students at Saudi University, Riyadh Saudi Arabia. All data were analyzed using statistical package for social science (SPSS)., Results: A total of 456 HCs participated in this study. Among those 68% believed eating high carbohydrates, fats, and sugars leads to obesity. At the same time, 52.2% and 57.2% were aware that smoking and stress can contribute to obesity. On the other hand, 41.9% live a healthy lifestyle and 38.65% engage in physical activity to control their obesity. The demographic variables such as age (p = 0.0001), gender (p = 0.0001), professional classification (p = 0.0001), presence of chronic diseases (p = 0.0001), history of weight loss treatment (p = 0.0001) and body mass index (BMI) (p = 0.0001) were significantly associated with knowledge of obesity(p = 0.001). Similarly, students' age (p = 0.001), presence of chronic diseases (p = 0.004) history of weight loss treatment (p = 0.0001), BMI (p = 0.001), and active status (p = 0.0001) were significantly associated with the perception of the obesity., Conclusion: Undergraduate HCs possess a good understanding of the clinical prospects of obesity. They know its causes, risks, and treatment options. Background: Interprofessional education is crucial for healthcare students to develop collaborative skills and provide effective patient care. However, opportunities for interprofessional learning are often limited in healthcare curricula. The present study aimed to engage students from different health professions in co-designing an educational resource on delirium recognition and management through an interprofessional lens and explore their experiences of this process., Methods: Two co-design workshops were conducted with students from medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and occupational therapy programmes at two universities across the island of Ireland. Focus groups were held following these workshops to explore students' experiences of the co-design process. The workshops involved a range of activities, including theme generation, scenario development, resource creation (podcasts, simulations), and focus group discussions. Data from focus groups were analysed thematically., Results: A total of 19 students participated across the two workshops. Three themes were identified: (1) Relationship development, where students identified the benefits of co-creating the resource and valued the flexibility, collaboration, and social aspects of the co-design approach; (2) Interprofessional collaboration, which challenged students' assumptions about other disciplines, fostered teamwork and communication, and highlighted the need for early and continuous interprofessional learning; (3) Professional growth, with students reporting increased confidence in managing delirium, working with other professions, and engaging in novel experiences like podcasting and simulation., Conclusions: The co-design process facilitated interprofessional collaboration, peer learning, and personal growth among healthcare students. Students appreciated the opportunity to co-create an educational resource while developing interprofessional skills. Background: As the global elderly population rises, providing quality care for older adults is increasingly challenging. Rehabilitation technicians are crucial in this effort. Their knowledge and attitudes significantly impact care quality and their willingness to work with the elderly. While many studies have examined healthcare professionals' attitudes toward older adults, few focus on rehabilitation students. This study assesses Chinese rehabilitation students' knowledge of aging, attitudes toward older individuals, willingness to care for them, and the factors influencing these aspects., Methods: A sample of 890 rehabilitation students from three colleges and universities in southwestern China was investigated with a self-administered questionnaire, which included socio-demographic information, the Palmore Facts on Aging Quiz, the Kogan's Attitude towards Older People Scale and the Chinese Version of the Interpersonal Reactivity Index. Data analyses were conducted using SPSS version 25.0. Descriptive statistics were used to illustrate the demographic characteristics of the respondents. The frequency and percentage of responses was calculated. Means and standard deviations were computed for general knowledge of aging, attitudes toward older people, and empathy. Independent t-tests and one-way ANOVA assessed differences in FAQ, KAOP, and IRI-C scores between groups. Pearson's correlation examined correlations among general knowledge of aging, attitudes toward older people and empathy ability. Chi-square or Fisher's exact tests compared willingness to engage in geriatric rehabilitation across different respondent characteristics. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis explored the independent effect of different variables on attitudes toward older people., Results: The Chinese rehabilitation students from three colleges and universities in southwestern China displayed a relatively low level of knowledge about aging, but a generally positive attitude towards older people. Females had significantly more positive attitudes toward older people than males(p<0.01). The students who had previous experience of being cared for by (maternal) grandparents, living with the elderly, and taking care of the elderly showed significantly more positive attitudes toward older people (p = 0.001, 0.007 and 0.007, respectively) and a significantly stronger willingness to engage in geriatric rehabilitation(p = 0.013, <0.01 and <0.01, respectively) than those who had not had these experiences. Students with good relationships with older people had more positive attitudes toward the elderly (p < 0.01) and greater willingness to engage in geriatric rehabilitation (p < 0.01). Those with frequent contact with the elderly also showed more positive attitudes (p < 0.01) and a stronger willingness to engage in geriatric rehabilitation (p = 0.002) compared to those with less contact. Knowledge of aging and empathy ability were both significantly positively related to attitudes toward older people and both independent predictors of attitudes toward older people(r = 0.143, p<0.01 and r = 0.337, p<0.01)., Conclusions: It is crucial to prepare rehabilitation students with adequate knowledge and positive attitudes to ensure the quality of rehabilitation and care provided to older people. Background: Understanding the student's perspective of their clinical learning environment (CLE) might assist to discover solutions to improve the learning process and increase engagement. However, there is a lack of information on this issue, particularly in Ethiopia. The purpose of this study was to assess the satisfaction of undergraduate medical and health science students with their clinical learning environment, as well as to identify the factors that affect it., Methods: Institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire among 412 medical and health science students from Debre Markos University in 2023 through a simple random sampling technique. Mean, median, frequencies, and percentages were used to describe the data. A multivariate logistic regression model was fitted to test the association of dependent and independent variables. The Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test was used to check the fitness of the model. Variables with a p-value < 0.05 with a 95% confidence interval were considered statistically significant., Results: The questionnaire was completed by 394 individuals in total, generating a response rate of 95.63%. Approximately half (49.7%) of the participants were satisfied with their CLE. Age (AOR = 1.12; 95%CI = 1.02, 1.22), university positive perceptions (AOR = 1.60; 95%CI = 1.04, 2.43) and curriculum positive perception (AOR = 2.70; 95%CI = 1.73, 4.10) were all positively associated with CLE satisfaction., Conclusion: In this study, approximately half of the respondents were satisfied with their CLE. Age, positive perceptions of the university and positive perceptions of the curriculum were all positively associated with CLE satisfaction. The university and clinical facilitators should work together to improve infrastructure, and the facilities at the university, build dormitories at the clinical placement sites, as well as the curriculum review should involve students to increase their academic performance, self-esteem, and satisfaction with CLE., (© 2024. Background: There is a gradual increase in the number of optometry education programs in Africa yet there is limited knowledge on optometry students' experiences of their clinical training. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to explore the optometry students' experiences of their clinical learning environment at a national referral and teaching hospital in Uganda., Methods: Between April 2023 and May 2023, face to face in-depth interviews were conducted to explore the experiences of the participants. All 16 optometry students in fourth-year at university were purposefully recruited into the study. Data was collected at the end of the students' clinical training at the eye clinic of a national referral and teaching hospital. Interviews were audio recorded and transcribed for analysis using an inductive thematic approach., Results: Two themes, learning at the eye clinic and organization of the eye clinic, were identified to represent participants' experiences. Each theme had three sub themes., Conclusion: Training optometry students at an eye clinic enhances their clinical skills and knowledge of diagnosing and managing various eye conditions. Aims: Increasing attention has been given to the concept resilience in the context of healthcare especially during and post the COVID pandemic. Much of the inquiry and evidence reported has focused on promoting or enhancing resilience in healthcare for improving the quality of care and reducing medical negligence. This discursive paper aims to highlight how resilience is conceptualised and identify any potential limitations or gaps in the context of healthcare students, acknowledging considerations for further development and research into this topic., Design and Methods: This discursive discussion draws on relevant theoretical underpinnings from the fields of adjustment and coping psychology, and research and evidence from health sciences, for facilitating an understanding of resilience in supporting healthcare students to adapt into professional practice., Results: Investigation of resilience in healthcare students is mainly identified at an individual level as personal traits or skills for working within complex healthcare systems and clinical environments. Less attention has been given to examining resilience at the organisation or systemic level. Aim: The aim is to delineate the concept of sleep disturbances in health professional students during the COVID-19 pandemic., Design: A concept analysis was conducted., Methods: A systematic search was conducted for relevant articles published and performed from inception to July 5, 2024. Electronic databases searched included PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Embase and Web of Science. Rodgers' method of evolutionary concept analysis was used., Results: A total of 50 pertinent articles were included in our analysis. Utilising inductive thematic analysis, this study identified attributes, antecedents and consequences of sleep disturbances. Important attributes included insomnia, disrupted sleep patterns, altered sleep duration/nocturnal sleep duration and poor sleep quality. Antecedents encompassed factors such as gender, age/grade levels, physical activity, screen time of digital production, mental health issues, COVID-19-related stressors, financial strain and academic stress. Consequences included both mental and physical health implications. By addressing sleep disturbances and promoting better sleep health among students, we can enhance their learning and performance, which could translate to improved patient care outcomes. With growing technology, it's easier for students to accomplish their assignments with little or no effort. This study assesses attitudes, opinions, perceptions, and perceived obstacles regarding ChatGPT among healthcare students at King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. A cross-sectional study among healthcare students was conducted from the beginning of January to April 2024 using social media, platforms through a prevalidated series of questionnaires. This study included students from the College of Pharmacy, Nursing, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS). A total of 354 students included in the study. The data was analyzed using a statistical package for social science (SPSS). Among the healthcare students 39.8% (n = 141) of them were between 23 and 24 years old and most of them were male 68.4% (n = 242). The majority of the healthcare students 91.2% (n = 323) were familiar with the term "ChatGPT, while 75.1% (n = 266) of them were comfortable to some extent in using ChatGPT in their academic activity. Although 22% (n = 78) of healthcare students stated they had used ChatGPT in their academics 29.5% of them perceived that ChatGPT is used in information gathering. In addition, 66.7% of them showed positive attitudes towards ChatGPT. While 61.3% of the healthcare students perceived that ChatGPT may increase productivity and 84.7% of them revealed that it has a positive impact on education. The mean perceptions score of ChatGPT was significantly higher among females (22.64 ± 6.36) comparing male students (21.71 ± 4.66) (t = 1.551; p = 0.001). Similarly, the mean perception score of ChatGPT was higher among pharmacy (22.99 ± 5.48) compared to other healthcare students (F = 4.941; p = 0.008). The current findings concluded that most of the healthcare students are familiar with ChatGPT and show positive perceptions, and perceived that ChatGPT may increase productivity and have a positive impact on education. Therefore, we recommend future studies concentrate on enhancing the ethical and successful application of AI tools and ChatGPT in the academic setting is pivotal., (© 2024. The Author(s).)

Questions: What are physiotherapy students' attitudes and beliefs towards providing care for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and other related identities (LGBTQIA+) individuals? What education have students received on LGBTQIA+ healthcare needs? What are students' preferences for receiving this content?, Design: Mixed-methods design using a purpose-built online survey., Participants: Australian undergraduate and postgraduate physiotherapy students., Methods: Participants were invited to complete an online survey. Data were collected on: personal, clinical, professional and educational exposure to LGBTQIA+ identities and topics; heteronormative attitudes and beliefs via the modified Heteronormative Attitudes and Beliefs Scale (mHABS); and perspectives about LGBTQIA+ care. Welch's t-test and analysis of variance were used to analyse differences in mHABS and subscale scores between groups based on personal, clinical, professional and educational exposure. Open text responses were analysed thematically. Quantitative and qualitative data were first analysed separately and then cross-validated for integration in the results., Results: The survey was completed by 324 eligible students. Cross-comparison of data generated four key themes pertaining to students' perspectives about working with the LGBTQIA+ community and education about LGBTQIA+ health: students with closer personal relationships to the LGBTQIA+ community demonstrated more inclusive attitudes and beliefs about LGBTQIA+ care and education; there are cis/heteronormativity and negative views towards LGBTQIA+ health; students who are ambivalent about LGBTQIA+ care hold egalitarian beliefs; and integrated education on LGTBQIA+ health delivered by members of the community is important., Conclusion: Physiotherapy students' attitudes and beliefs about the LGBTQIA+ community were diverse, with cis/heteronormativity prevalent in respondents. Background: Schizophrenia is heavily stigmatized among health professionals. Given that health professional students are future members of the workforce and will provide care for people with schizophrenia, it is essential to implement interventions aimed at reducing stigma among this group., Objective: This scoping review aimed to identify and synthesize existing literature on interventions to decrease schizophrenia stigma among health professional students, and to determine the possible gaps in the literature., Design: Nine electronic databases and gray literature were searched, including PubMed, Embase, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, PsycINFO, MEDLINE, Web of Science, Scopus, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, WanFang, and Google on 5 May 2023. Two researchers independently conducted data screening, data extraction, and assessed study risks. A most updated search was also done on 22 May 2024. The Cochrane risk of bias tool version 2 for randomized trials and Risk of Bias in Non-randomized Studies were used to assess the studies' risk of bias. Data synthesis and analysis were conducted by two reviewers using a narrative approach. Reporting adhered to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews., Results: This review included twenty-one studies with 2520 health professional students. The majority of included studies were non-randomized controlled trials (38 %) and pre-post studies (52 %). Most of the included studies were conducted in the United States (24 %). The participants in ten (48 %) studies were medical students. The number of intervention sessions ranged from one to 13, with an average of three. Seven (33 %) studies had an intervention duration of less than four weeks and 16 (76 %) studies had no follow-up. Various scales were used to assess the outcomes of schizophrenia stigma. Only two studies (10 %) indicated the intervention's ineffectiveness, with the majority of interventions led by psychiatry department faculty and individuals with schizophrenia., Conclusions: Most studies (90 %) utilized various approaches, including face-to-face or online education, direct contact with individuals with schizophrenia, or a combination thereof, to diminish stigma among health professional students. However, none addressed cultural and empathy factors in their intervention designs, and the included studies lacked theoretical guidance. The review only comprised English quantitative studies with significant heterogeneity, with 17 studies (81 %) displaying serious or high risk of bias, limiting comprehensive discussions. Aim: To examine the effectiveness of educational interventions in reducing stigma among healthcare professionals and students towards people with mental illness., Design: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and cluster RCTs., Data Sources: Articles published from database inception to October 2023 were systematically searched from seven databases (CINAHL, Embase, ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Global, PsycINFO, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science), following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines., Methods: Random-effect meta-analyses were conducted. Heterogeneity was evaluated using the I 2 statistics and Cochran's Q chi-squared test. A quality appraisal conducted at the study level used the Cochrane risk of bias tool and an outcome-level quality assessment utilized the Grades of Recommendation, Assessment, Development and Evaluation Approach. Publication bias was assessed using the funnel plot., Results: Twenty-five articles were included in this review. Meta-analysis reported statistically significant medium and small effect sizes for attitudes towards mental illness and attitudes towards people with mental illness respectively, showing the association between educational interventions and improved attitudes among healthcare professionals and students. However, a statistically non-significant effect was reported for knowledge of mental illness. Subgroup analyses indicated that face-to-face and contact-based interventions were particularly effective at reducing stigma. Notably, single-session interventions were just as effective as multiple sessions, suggesting a potential for resource-efficient approaches., Conclusion: Educational interventions demonstrate promise in fostering more positive attitudes towards mental health issues. Introduction: There has been a call for healthcare to consider more explicitly the needs of the individual patient by adopting a person-centered approach to practice. Consideration needs to be given to how this is taught to pre-registration physiotherapy students., Purpose: To understand how first-year pre-registration physiotherapy students envision their philosophy of practice and how person-centered aspects of that philosophy might be implemented in a clinical setting., Methods: Semi-structured interviews were carried out with 10 first-year physiotherapy students. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis., Results: Five themes were identified: 1) understanding the person and their direction of travel; 2) contextual factors that impact on the delivery of person-centered practice; 3) awareness of personality traits; 4) doing the small things; and 5) the person-centered learning curve., Conclusion: Understanding the person and knowing what is important to them is central to the participant's philosophy of practice. They drew on specific personality traits such as listening, being patient, or using small talk to develop rapport to better understand the person they were working with. Despite the challenge of high-pressured, under resourced healthcare contexts, student physiotherapists would strive to do the small things for each person they were working with. Practice-based learning settings presented a steep learning curve and appeared to be important in developing person-centered skills which were introduced in the university setting.

Background: Interprofessional education (IPE) incorporates healthcare students from various disciplines to learn with, about, and from one another, aiming to foster effective collaboration. However, the factors that promote these collaboration outcomes remain elusive. Recognizing this knowledge gap, this study utilizes self-determination theory applied in a ten-day IPE programme. The study aims are twofold: to clarify the potential influence of personal factors (autonomy, competence, and relatedness) and environmental factors (clear goals and technology support) on collaboration outcomes (team goal achievement and team effectiveness) and to examine the effect of the IPE on these outcomes., Methodology: The study utilized an IPE programme that integrated asynchronous and synchronous learning methods across two institutions in Hong Kong and the United Kingdom. This involved 147 students from diverse healthcare disciplines who were enrolled in the IPE programme. A pre- and post-test design was employed to examine programme effects. Multiple regression analysis was conducted to explore the factors influencing these outcomes, while paired samples t-tests were used to evaluate the effect of the IPE programme on collaboration outcomes., Results: Among the personal factors, a sense of relatedness emerged as an important predictor of team effectiveness and goal achievement. Clear goals and technology support positively influenced collaboration outcomes. A paired samples t-test indicated significant improvements in collaboration outcomes after the IPE simulation., Conclusion: These findings highlight the importance of designing a large IPE programme that meets basic psychological needs (especially the sense of relatedness) and provides clear goals and adequate technology support in the IPE context. Anatomy with human dissection may help to develop respect for the human body and professionalism; however, dissection may worsen students' attitudes about body weight and adiposity. The purpose of this study was to measure weight bias among Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students enrolled in gross anatomy and determine if, and how the experience of dissection impacts weight bias. Ninety-seven DPT students (70 University of Colorado [CU], 27 Moravian University [MU]) were invited to complete a survey during the first and final weeks of their anatomy course. The survey included demographic items, two measures of weight bias-the Modified Weight Bias Internalized Scale (M-WBIS) and the Attitudes Towards Obese Persons (ATOP) Scale-and open-ended questions for the students who participated in dissection (CU students) that explored attitudes about body weight and adiposity. At baseline, there were no significant differences (p > 0.202) in ATOP, M-WBIS, or BMI between the two universities. The mean scores on both the ATOP and M-WBIS indicated a moderate degree of both internalized and externalized weight bias. There were no significant changes in ATOP (p = 0.566) or M-WBIS scores (p = 0.428). BMI had a low correlation with initial M-WBIS scores (⍴ = 0.294, p = 0.038) and a high correlation with change scores in CU students (⍴ = 0.530, p = 0.011). Background: Clinician bias contributes to health disparities; therefore, educational standards and professional expectations incorporate cultural humility. Vague standards and numerous pedagogical methods make implementing an effective and uniform curriculum challenging. Classroom and clinical faculty's attitudes and behaviors are pivotal; however, evidence on roles beyond instruction is lacking., Purpose: This study explored physical therapy (PT) students' perceptions of faculty's role in improving their cultural humility., Methods: This study was rooted in a phenomenological approach that incorporated elements of both descriptive and interpretive phenomenology. Thirteen first-year PT students participated in one-on-one interviews which underwent reflexive thematic analysis., Results: Reflexive thematic analysis generated two hundred-ninety codes, six categories, and one overarching theme. Dissonance emerged between students' perceptions of faculty's role and the explicit and implicit curriculum., Conclusion: Explicit messaging from classroom instruction and implicit messaging from clinical encounters and unspoken attitudes, values, and behaviors were disparate. Faculty role modeling, diversity, cultural awareness, and perceived comfort interacting with a diverse patient population improved students' self-confidence and cultural humility. Professional development including field experience with a cognitive apprenticeship approach, and standardized, discipline-specific cultural humility competencies may provide uniform and clear guidelines.

Background: While conspiracy theories cover many different themes, medical conspiracy theories (MCTs) have become particularly prevalent in modern societies. As beliefs in MCTs can become a source of "infodemics", influence individual health behaviors and cause distrust in medical institutions and personnel, healthcare workers must find ways to overturn patients' conspiracy thinking. However, as the medical world is not free of these beliefs, in this study, we investigated beliefs in MCTs among medical and health science students and their association with reported health behaviors., Methods: Our sample was derived from a self-administered, anonymized, computer-assisted web survey conducted among 1,175 medical and health science students enrolled at the Poznan University of Medical Sciences, Poland., Results: From a set of twenty different MCTs, one-third of students rejected all of them, 18% believed in one, 15% in two, 10% in three, and 24% supported four or more conspiracy theories. In addition, many students were hesitant or unsure about MCTs. We also found that nursing and midwifery students were the most likely to believe in MCTs, while medical and dental students were the least supportive. Support for MCTs was higher among students in the early years of their studies and who declared themselves religious and conservative. This study also highlights the association between students' support for MCTs and their reported health behaviors, including avoiding vaccinations, using alternative medicine, taking vitamin C, or using social media as an essential source of health information., Conclusions: As medical and health science students are prone to conspiratorial thinking, they should be trained to act as a trusted and reliable source of medical information, to mitigate conspiratorial beliefs, and to act as role models for their patients and society, effectively shaping health behaviors in the population., (© 2024. Background: Evidence shows that motivational practices focused on utility, importance, and autonomy shape university students' motivational orientation toward learning. On the other hand, the relationship between these variables and motivational orientation toward learning is not linear and requires models that describe their behavior over time., Method: In this study, mathematical modeling based on system dynamics methodology is used to simulate in health students the temporal dynamics of the motivational orientation toward learning based on the behavior of these variables in different scenarios., Results: The results indicate that a) Mastery is sensitive to changes in frequency when importance and autonomy practices are performed; b) the development of Mastery is critical in the first three semesters of academic life, but its loss is hardly recoverable even when practices are incorporated in subsequent semesters; c) Utility-focused motivational practices have no significant effect on the development of learning-oriented motivation., Conclusion: These findings have significant practical implications for higher education. Understanding the critical role of Mastery in the early stages of academic life and the limited potential for recovery if lost can help raise awareness of the importance of early implementation of motivational practices focused on relevance and autonomy., (© 2024. Background: To explore perspectives of work readiness, including readiness to work rurally, among health students trained in Australia during the COVID-19 pandemic., Methods: Participants were allied health, medicine, and nursing students in the later years of their degree (third, fourth or final year of an undergraduate entry to practice degree, or second year of postgraduate entry to practice degree), where training is clinically immersive. These students had completed a University Department of Rural Health facilitated rural and remote placement between January 2021 and October 2022. They participated in a cross-sectional online survey (n = 426), comprising Likert-scale questions. Interested survey respondents participated in a semi-structured interview (n = 34). Multiple logistic regression was conducted to examine the predictors of work readiness within the survey, and interview data was analysed via reflexive thematic analysis., Results: Among survey respondents, 69.7% felt they would be ready to be a health practitioner when the time came to graduate and 71.8% felt clinically prepared to work in a rural location. Concerns about having developed enough clinical skills on placements to competently practice on graduation and being able to continue studying their course during the pandemic were both predictive of work readiness and feeling clinically prepared to work rurally. Four themes reflecting factors impacting work readiness were developed from interview data: (1) 'I'd estimate probably a 20-30% reduction in face-to-face handling practice over the course of all of my placements' encompassed student concerns regarding the collective impact of cancelled placements and lower patient attendance at healthcare facilities on clinical skill development; (2) 'Two and a half years of sitting behind a computer' related to student experiences of superficial learning and cohort disconnectedness due to online course delivery and loss of on campus simulations; (3) 'I'll still need like a lot of support in my grad year' related to students recognising the need for support and supervision post-qualifying to bridge the gaps in their learning; and (4) 'We are the COVID nurses' encompassed student recognition of skills gained including communication skills, competence with technology and telehealth, knowledge of infection control, and work readiness skills (e.g. adaptability and resilience) as a result of training during the global pandemic., Conclusions: Universities can support work readiness during pandemic circumstances by fostering clinical skills development through continuation of quality placement experiences and face-to-face curriculum delivery. Although health graduates trained during the pandemic are likely to have a range of additional work ready skills, health services will need to proactively support their transition into the workforce in the coming years., (© 2024. The present study focused on the relationships between various aspects of self-regulated learning (SRL) and stress among undergraduate health science students in workplace settings. Although both constructs are associated with academic achievement (Ahmady Set al., in J Educ Health Promotion 10:32, 2021, Cho KK et al., in BMC Med Educ 17:112, 2017), it is still unclear how they influence each other. Employing a longitudinal diary design, the aim of the present study was to examine whether perceived stress in the previous week impacts SRL-aspects in the current week and, conversely, whether SRL-aspects in the previous week impacts stress in the current week. Subjects were 192 undergraduate health sciences students in their workplace placements. SRL-aspects and stress were assessed using scales and previously tested single-item measures. The 21 SRL-aspects used in this study included cognition (learning strategies), motivation, emotion, perception of the learning environment, and regulation of these areas on a metalevel (monitoring and control). Data collected over 15 weeks were analyzed using multilevel vector autoregressive models, with the data nested within weeks and one model dedicated to each SRL-aspect and its relationship with stress. Among the 21 path estimates assessing the impact of prior stress on individual SRL-aspects, 10 were statistically significant. For individual SRL-aspects impacting stress, 7 out of 21 paths were statistically significant (p < .05). Notably, no model showed statistical significance of effects in both directions. Except for two results, cross-lagged relationships were negative, indicating that better SRL-aspects from the previous week resulted in reduced stress in the current week and vice versa. The effects for the cross-lagged paths from SRL-aspects to stress were predominantly of medium size, whereas the influence of stress on individual SRL-aspects was predominantly small. The present study highlights a potentially causal and mostly negative relationship between stress and various aspects of SRL, but also that the individual relationships require differentiated consideration. The results can be used to develop targeted interventions in the practical part of the training of health science students to reduce stress and improve specific aspects of SRL. Objectives: We aimed to explore healthcare students' intercultural sensitivity profiles and their relationship with empathy to develop effective education methods that promote non-discriminatory patient care., Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional questionnaire study, involving a total of 508 international (n= 100) and local (n= 408) healthcare students in Hungary by convenience sampling. The survey included demographics, the Intercultural Sensitivity Scale, and the Interpersonal Reactivity Index. We applied latent profile analysis to identify distinct sensitivity profiles and used multinomial logistic regression to estimate the predictive power of several background variables on profile group membership., Results: A four-profile solution emerged: "Interculturally average" (n= 241), "Interculturally uncertain" (n= 76), "Interculturally sensitive" (n= 132), and "Interculturally refusing" (n= 54). The model (R 2 = 0.123; p= 0.001) revealed that psychology major tended to predict "uncertain" group membership (OR= 0.56, p= 0.08) and higher personal distress was a significant predictor of this group (OR=1.11, p= 0.002). Male gender (OR= 3.03, p= 0.001), medicine major (OR= 5.49, p= 0.01), lower perspective-taking (OR= 0.91, p= 0.007) and higher personal distress (OR= 1.09, p= 0.028) were identified as predictors of "refusing" group membership, compared to the "average" group., Conclusions: By exploring the ways students experience intercultural situations, a more personalized medical education can be developed with a special focus on vulnerable subgroups. For the "uncertain" group, the focus should be more on developing confidence, and intercultural experiences, whereas in the "refusing" group on strengthening empathy. In general, it can be useful to create mixed-gender, multidisciplinary, and intercultural learning environments.

Background: Health care students are instrumental in shaping the future of dementia care. Cultivating a positive attitude and understanding toward people living with dementia is crucial for diminishing the stigma associated with the condition, providing effective and person-centered care, and enhancing the quality of life for people living with dementia. Educational programs about dementia are increasingly recognizing the potential of gaming tools., Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of gaming-based dementia educational programs in improving attitudes toward people living with dementia among health care students., Methods: This single-arm pre-post study will be conducted among health care students in Indonesian universities. This educational program based on gaming tools will consist of a lecture on dementia, the use of N-impro (gaming tool), and the enactment of short dramas depicting desirable and undesirable communication with people living with dementia behaviors. We will assess attitudes toward people living with dementia, intention to help people living with dementia, knowledge of dementia, and the stigma associated with people living with dementia. The gaming-based dementia education program will be integrated into the curriculum of the health care students. The program will be implemented once with a duration of 90 minutes., Results: Data collection will occur from August 2023 to March 2024. Analysis of the data will be finalized by May 2024, and the outcome will be determined by July 2024. The impact of the gaming-based dementia educational program on improving attitudes toward people living with dementia will be reported. Background: This study aimed to examine the prevalence of burnout, determine burnout-related factors, investigate resilience levels, and assess the relationship between burnout and resilience among physical therapy (PT) students at King Saud University (KSU) in Saudi Arabia., Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 153 PT students studying at KSU between January and March 2023. The participants completed an online questionnaire, a Maslach Burnout Inventory , and a Brief Resilience Scale ., Results: Low-to-moderate levels of Emotional Exhaustion (EE) were observed in 85% of the participants and high Depersonalization (DP) levels were reported by 34.2%. Female participants reported higher levels of EE and DP, whereas males had a greater prevalence of low Personal Achievement (PA) levels. Approximately 6.5% of the study participants reported high burnout levels (a combination of high DP, high EE, and low PA). Academic stress, followed by sleeping difficulties and changes in the academic year structure, were the most important factors contributing to higher levels of burnout (75.2%, 56.9%, and 43.8%, respectively). Most study participants around (66.0%) reported normal resilience levels. A significant correlation was detected between resilience and 2 domains of burnout (DP and PA), with the correlation being negative and weak for DP and positive and moderate for PA., Conclusions: Overall, low-to-moderate levels of burnout were observed among the PT students who took part. Related factors that contributed to burnout were academic stress, sleeping difficulties, and academic year structure. A normal level of resilience was found to be significantly related to DP and PA but not to EE on the burnout subscales. Higher levels of resilience can be considered to play a protective role against burnout among PT students. Background: This research explores the perspectives and attitudes of university students in health sciences towards aging and older adults. Given the intricate interplay of factors influencing attitudes toward aging, coupled with the demographic shift in Turkey from a youthful to an aging population, the study aims to discern how a cohort of university students perceives the aging process., Methods: Employing a mixed-methods research strategy, which enhances the depth of data interpretation, the study utilized a questionnaire for quantitative data collection. Additionally, qualitative insights were gathered through a metaphor stem-completion item appended to the questionnaire and semi-structured interviews with students. The participants were selected from the Health Sciences Faculty and School of Medicine at a Turkish university., Results: The study revealed that participating students generally hold positive attitudes and demonstrate respect towards older adults. However, they also associate old age with negative aspects such as loss of autonomy and a constant need for assistance. Furthermore, older individuals are perceived as emotionally challenging and challenging to work with, irrespective of the nature and duration of interactions during their academic programs. These findings suggest a potential pathologizing perspective towards aging adults among health science students, who are prospective health professionals., Conclusions: This paper discusses the implications of the study and offers insights for program coordinators, curriculum designers, and faculty members in health sciences. The results underscore the necessity for a heightened emphasis on gerontology-related subjects within health science curricula. Objectives: This study examined the level of technology proficiency amongst healthcare professions students. Additionally, the study provides an evaluation of the pilot implementation, as well as the effect of a 7-module telehealth course on the level of adoption and future use of telehealth amongst future Australian healthcare workforce., Methods: Students from four health-sciences departments at the University of Melbourne, Australia, participated in this pilot study by completing the course and an online questionnaire, which included both structured and open-ended questions. The questionnaire included: 12-items on socio-demographic and Internet utilization; 34-items about acceptance and use of telehealth adapted from the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2) questionnaire; and 22-items about confidence in using the Internet and ICT, adapted from Technology Proficiency Self-Assessment Questionnaire for 21st Century Learning (TPSA-C-21)., Results: The evaluation included 26 students who expressed confidence in their Internet/ICT skills They showed enthusiasm for telehealth and recognized its potential benefits, but also emphasized the value of face-to-face interactions. They requested information on legal and aspects and additional learning. Post-test assessments indicated improvements in overall acceptance and use attitudes towards telehealth and on six dimensions of the UTAUT2 instrument. Participation in the course indicated improvements in students' overall acceptance and use attitudes and on six of the ten dimensions of the UTAUT2 instrument (p < 0.05)., Conclusion: This preliminary evaluation indicated that the telehealth course was a positive and enjoyable learning experience for students with appropriate structure and information. The course was successful in improving students' acceptance and use of health technology. The study identified areas in which further development might be required. Objectives: Mental health disorders are increasing among health profession students. Compounding this, students from underrepresented backgrounds may face additional stressors and challenges. The aims of this study were to: (1) assess the extent to which burnout, exhaustion, experiences of discrimination, and stress exist among students in dentistry, nursing, occupational therapy, pharmacy, and physical therapist professional education programs; (2) determine if there are significant differences by key demographic characteristics (those who are first-generation college students [FGCSs], a member of an underrepresented minority [URM] group, or both); and (3) highlight strategies and solutions to alleviate these challenges identified by students., Methods: Cross-sectional survey using a mix of question types of a sample of graduate students from dentistry, nursing, occupational therapy, pharmacy, and physical therapy programs from February to June 2020. Utilizing the Maslach Burnout Inventory Student Survey and campus climate and stress survey, mean subscale scores were calculated for the following outcomes of interest: MBI-SS burnout, dimensions of stress, and observed racism. Logistic regressions examined student factors that may help explain these outcomes. Content analysis examined participants' responses to open-ended questions., Results: There were 611 individuals who completed all survey questions. FGCSs were significantly more likely than non-FGCSs to report exhaustion (adjusted odds ratio [aOR]: 1.50; 95% CI = 1.04-2.16), family stress (aOR: 3.11; 95% CI = 2.13-4.55), and financial stress (aOR: 1.74; 95% CI = 1.21-2.50). URM students reported not feeling supported in their program and mentioned needing additional support, particularly for well-being, from staff and faculty., Conclusion: Findings from this study are consistent with literature that FGCSs experience additional stressors that may lead to burnout and exhaustion. URM students reported not feeling supported in their programs. This study's findings point to the need for leadership and faculty of health professional schools to implement or strengthen current policies, practices, and strategies that support URM students and FGCSs., Impact: Research demonstrates that a diverse student body and faculty enhances the educational experience for health professional students, and that diversity strengthens the learning environment and improves learning outcomes, preparing students to care for an increasingly diverse population. However, this study finds that students from underrepresented backgrounds may still experience more burnout, exhaustion, discrimination, and stress than their peers. Programs and policies to support URM students and FGCSs throughout their academic careers can help improve graduation and retention rates, leading to improved workforce diversity., (© The Author(s) 2024. Aim: The research aimed to determine the attitudes of students studying in health-related departments toward sexual myths and the factors affecting them., Methods: The study is descriptive research involving 287 students enrolled in health-related departments. The data were collected using a "Descriptive Information Form" and the "Sexual Myths Scale (SMS)" and analyzed using the SPSS 22.0 software package. The SPSS 22.0 package program was used to evaluate the data. In statistical analysis, Spearman correlation analysis was employed to determine the relationship between continuous variables and the SMS score, and the statistical significance level was accepted as p<0.05., Results: The total score was found to be 53.57±17.54 (min: 28.00 to max: 140.00), reflecting a moderate level. There was a statistically significant difference between the total score of SMS according to gender, family type, maternal employment status, and paternal education level (p<0.05). It was also determined that male students, students whose mothers were unemployed, who lived in extended families, and whose fathers had low education had lower SMS scores., Conclusion: Despite students studying in health-related departments and receiving relevant courses, their level of sexual myths remains at a moderate level, indicating the presence of knowledge gaps and misconceptions in the subject matter. Therefore, it is crucial to implement comprehensive education and counseling services on reproductive and sexual health for all university students.
