Using sodium lignosulfonate as feedstock, ZnCl2 and NaHCO3 co-activated the hierarchical porous carbons (HPCs) were prepared by one-pot pyrolysis with different NaHCO3 dosages (0–4 g) and carbonization temperatures (400–600 °C). Subsequently, phosphotungstate (HPW) was supported with the resulting biochar for the α-pinene hydration reaction to produce α-terpineol. The optimum preparation conditions were determined according to the yield of α-terpineol. The formation mechanism and physicochemical properties of HPCs were analyzed through TG, SEM, XPS, XRD, FT-IR, and N2 adsorption–desorption isotherms. The results demonstrated that NaHCO3 underwent a two-step reaction which liberated a substantial quantity of CO2, thereby enhancing activated carbon's macroporous and mesoporous structures. Simultaneously, NaHCO3 mitigated strong acid gas (HCl) emissions during ZnCl2 activation. Compared with AC450-4:8:0 prepared by ZnCl2 activation alone, the total pore volume of AC450-4:8:2 prepared by co-activation is increased from 0.595 mL/g to 0.754 mL/g and the mesopore rate from 47.7% to 77.8%, which is conducive to reducing the steric hindrance of the hydration reaction and improving the selectivity. Hydration experiments show that the selectivity of α-terpineol is 55.7% under HPW/AC450-4:8:2 catalysis, higher than 31.0% for HPW and 47.4% for HPW/AC450-4:8:0. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Context: Handgrip strength (HGS) is an important indicator of sarcopenia and adverse health outcomes. However, evaluating HGS in children presents challenges, and its association with metabolism remains incompletely understood., Objective: To establish grip strength reference values for Chinese children and adolescents, as well as to evaluate the relationship between HGS and cardiometabolic risk., Methods: Data were collected from 4 072 participants aged 6-18 as part of the Evaluation and Monitoring on School-based Nutrition and Growth in Shenzhen (EMSNGS) study. HGS was measured, and relative HGS (RHGS) was normalized by body mass index. Age- or weight-specific HGS and RHGS were derived using the generalized additive model of location, scale, and shape (GAMLSS) model, and participants' values were categorized into quartiles, defining low strength as the lowest quartile. The cardiometabolic risk index (CMRI) z-score was calculated, with high risk defined as a z-score of ≥ 1., Results: Both boys and girls exhibited similar increases in age- and weight-specific grip strength. Low grip strength, classified by weight-specific HGS and RHGS, was linked to higher CMRI z-scores compared to classifications based on age-specific references in both sexes. A dose-dependent relationship was observed between weight-specific grip strength and cardiometabolic risk, particularly in boys. Compared to the middle category (P25th-P75th), the odds ratios for high cardiometabolic risks associated with low grip strength increased in both sexes., Conclusion: This study established grip strength reference values for Chinese youth, introduced the concept of weight-specific HGS and RHGS, and demonstrated a dose-dependent relationship between weight-specific grip strength and cardiometabolic risk. Objective: To summarize the clinical features and biological characteristics of Helsmoortel Van der Aa syndrome (HVDAS) due to hotspot mutations of the ADNP gene in order to facilitate early diagnosis., Methods: Clinical data and result of genetic testing for a girl with HVDAS due to hotspot mutation of the ADNP gene was summarized. Related literature was also reviewed., Results: The patient, a 2-year-old girl, had presented with growth retardation, facial dysmorphism, psychomotor and language delay and recurrent respiratory infections. Whole exome sequencing revealed that she has harbored a heterozygous c.2496_2499delTAAA (p.Asn832Lysfs*81) variant of the ADNP gene, which was not found in either of her parents., Conclusion: Although the typical features of the HVDAS have included intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorders, growth retardation and premature primary tooth eruption may also be present. In addition, the phenotypic difference among individuals carrying hot spot variants of the ADNP gene was not prominent.
