The Grand bend of the Yarlung Zangbo River, located at the boundary between the middle and lower reaches of the basin, is one of the most developed areas for debris flow activities in China. This study focuses on the Paiba gully and Qulu Valley on the south bank of the entrance section of the Yarlung Zangbo River’s grand bend. We collected and sorted out the historical optical satellite image data of the region in the past 50 years. By combining multi-period remote sensing image comparative interpretation and field investigation, we carried out the research on the characteristics of the development and distribution of debris flow sources, the characteristics of sediment transport, and the historical evolution of debris flow activities. The results show that from 1980 to 2023, the annual average sediment volume of the Paiba gully entering the main river was about 1900 m3. Before the construction of a retaining dam in 2016, the annual average sediment volume of the Qulu Valley entering the main river channel was about 700 m3. Both Paiba gully and Qulu Valley experienced large-scale debris flow around 1980. Over the next 40 years, Paiba gully was mainly characterized by floods and small-scale debris flow, while Qulu Valley experienced multiple debris flow events of varying scales. In recent years, the number and area of material sources in Paiba gully have increased relatively slowly, and the susceptibility of debris flows is moderate. In contract, Qulu Valley has seen significant increases in the quantity and area of channel and slope material sources, leading to high debris flow susceptibility. Sources developed in the Qulu Valley, and the quantity and area of these material sources have increased significantly in recent years. The susceptibility of debris flows is high, and the previously built control projects are functioning well and can effectively reduce the risk of debris flows.

Under the guidance of energy-saving and emission reduction goals, a low-carbon economic operation method for integrated energy systems (IES) has been proposed. This strategy aims to enhance energy utilization efficiency, bolster equipment operational flexibility, and significantly cut down on carbon emissions from the IES. Firstly, a thorough exploration of the two-stage operational framework of Power-to-Gas (P2G) technology is conducted. Electrolyzers, methane reactors, and hydrogen fuel cells (HFCs) are introduced as replacements for traditional P2G equipment, with the objective of harnessing the multiple benefits of hydrogen energy. Secondly, a cogeneration and HFC operational strategy with adjustable heat-to-electricity ratio is introduced to further enhance the IES’s low-carbon and economic performance. Finally, a step-by-step carbon trading mechanism is introduced to effectively steer the IES towards carbon emission control.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have tremendous potential in cell therapy and regenerative medicine. The placenta-derived MSCs (PMSCs) are becoming favorable sources as they are ethically preferable and rich in MSCs. Although several subgroups of PMSCs have been identified from human term placenta, optimal sources for specific clinical applications remain to be elucidated. This study aimed to isolate MSCs from various components of the placenta, and compare their biological characteristics, including morphology, proliferation, immunophenotype, differentiation potential, growth factor and cytokine secretion, and immunomodulatory properties. Finally, four distinct groups of PMSCs were isolated from the placenta: amniotic membrane-derived MSCs (AM-MSCs), chorionic membrane-derived MSCs (CM-MSCs), chorionic plate-derived MSCs (CP-MSCs), and chorionic villi-derived MSCs (CV-MSCs). The results showed that CV-MSCs had good proliferation ability, and were easier to induce osteogenic and chondrogenic differentiation; CP-MSCs exhibited the strongest inhibitory effect on the proliferation of activated T cells, secreted high levels of EGF and IL-6, and could well differentiate into osteoblasts, adipocytes, and chondroblasts; AM-MSCs showed good growth dynamics in the early generations, were able to grow at high density, and tended to induce differentiation into osteogenic and neural lineages. These findings may provide novel evidence for the selection of seed cells in clinical application.

The wettability behavior and characteristics of the high chromium cast iron (HCCI)/zirconium dioxide system were studied using the sessile drop method. A complete and uniform layer of titanium was prepared on the surface of ZrO2 ceramics using the salt bath coating method. The introduction of titanium reduced the contact angle of the HCCI/ZrO2 system abruptly from 110° to approximately 13°, at the solid/liquid interface, no complete layer of reaction products was detected, XRD results indicated that TiO, ZrO, and non-stoichiometric ZrO2-x were primarily formed at the interface; thereby the spreading of HCCI on the Ti-coated ZrO2 ceramic plate was primarily dominated by the adsorption of titanium elements at the interface with generation of non-stoichiometric ZrO2-x, and the diffusion of Fe and Cr elements into the interior of the ceramics. Meanwhile, the introduction of titanium elements at the interface between HCCI and ZrO2 benefits the preparation of metallurgical well-bonded composite interfaces.

ABSTRACT: Avian reovirus (ARV) is the causative agent of avian viral arthritis and causes significant economic losses to the global poultry industry. For clinical diagnosis, detecting ARV-specific antibodies is crucial. We successfully expressed the ARV-σC protein in insect cells using the baculovirus expression vector system, achieving an expression level of approximately 200 mg/L. We developed an indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (iELISA) using the ARV-σC protein as a coating antigen to detect antibodies against it. The inter-batch and intrabatch coefficients of iELISA variation were less than 10%. Its sensitivity (1:12,800 diluted in serum) was 4 times higher than that of the indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA; 1:3200 diluted in serum), and it showed no cross-reactivity with antibodies against other common avian viruses (such as Infectious bursal disease virus, Newcastle disease virus). The practicality of the iELISA was further evaluated using clinical samples. 300 clinical sera from chickens vaccinated with the ARV attenuated vaccine and 20 SPF sera were tested using both the iELISA and the IFA, demonstrating a 100% conformity rate. In conclusion, these results suggest that the iELISA developed in this study is a rapid, sensitive, and specific method that could serve as an effective diagnostic tool for monitoring and controlling avian viral arthritis.

More attention has been paid to environmental regulation of greenhouse gas emissions in the energy industry under the transformation of industrial structure. This paper takes microdata of Chinese energy enterprises from 1998 to 2012 as a sample to build a duty-sharing model, analyzes the effect of environmental regulations on the industrial chain, and explains the “double growth” phenomenon that occurred in China, which is nothing short of miraculous in terms of the environment and economy. In the industrial chain, the environmental obligations and responsibilities will be shared between upstream and downstream enterprises due to trade linkages. This paper finds that environmental responsibilities will move forward through the industrial chain when environmental regulations are strengthened. Downstream companies will loosen “relative” control constraints, thereby expanding output but increasing demand for upstream products. Different from the existing research, we claim that, since environmental regulation has a differential effect on the industrial chain, it will promote the growth of output in the entire chain, in contrast to the theory of “cost compliance”, which claims that environmental regulation will inevitably lead to the output. Based on this research, this paper puts forward some suggestions and insights on how the government implements environmental regulations.

Propofol, a commonly used intravenous anesthetic, has demonstrated potential in protecting against myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury (MIRI) based on preclinical animal studies. However, the clinical benefits of propofol in this context are subject to debate. We conducted a systematic search across eight databases to identify all relevant animal studies investigating the preventive effects of propofol on MIRI until October 30, 2023. We assessed the methodological quality of the included studies using SYRCLE's bias risk tool. Statistical analysis was performed using STATA 15.1. The primary outcome measures analyzed in this study were myocardial infarct size (IS) and myocardial injury biomarkers. This study presents a comprehensive analysis of 48 relevant animal studies investigating propofol's preventive effects on MIRI. Propofol administration demonstrated a reduction in myocardial IS and decreased levels of myocardial injury biomarkers (CK-MB, LDH, cTnI). Moreover, propofol improved myocardial function parameters (+dp/dtmax, -dP/dtmax, LVEF, LVFS), exhibited favorable effects on inflammatory markers (IL-6, TNF-α) and oxidative stress markers (SOD, MDA), and reduced myocardial cell apoptotic index (AI). These findings suggest propofol exerts cardioprotective effects by reducing myocardial injury, decreasing infarct size, and improving heart function. However, the absence of animal models that accurately represent comorbidities such as aging and hypertension, as well as inconsistent administration methods that align with clinical practice, may hinder its clinical translation. Further robust investigations are required to validate these findings, elucidate the underlying mechanisms of propofol, and facilitate its potential translation into clinical practice.

Objective: To explore the efficacy and safety of dapagliflozin and linagliptin in the treatment of type 2 diabetes patients (T2DM) with normal body mass index (BMI) who have poor single drug efficacy of metformin. Method: 102 T2DM patients with normal BMI who visited our hospital from December 2021 to March 2023 were randomly divided into an observation group (51 cases) and a control group (51 cases) using a random number table method. The control group patients were treated with linagliptin in addition to metformin treatment, while the observation group was treated with dapagliflozin in addition to metformin treatment. The general indicators, blood glucose metabolism, biochemical indicators, and adverse reactions of the two groups of patients were compared. Result: After treatment, the body weight and BMI of both the observation group and the control group slightly decreased, while the systolic blood pressure of the observation group decreased. The changes in systolic blood pressure of the control group were not significant, and the differences were not statistically significant ([Formula: see text]); after treatment, the fasting blood glucose (FBG) and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) of both groups of patients decreased, and the FPG and HbA1c of the control group were not significantly lower than those of the observation group ([Formula: see text]). After treatment, the values of blood creatinine, blood uric acid, urinary microalbumin (UAlb), and urinary microalbumin/creatinine (UACR) in both groups of patients decreased, and the decrease in various biochemical indicators in the control group was not as significant as that in the observation group. The comparison of blood uric acid, UAlb, and UACR between the two groups showed statistical significance ([Formula: see text]). The incidence of adverse reactions in the observation group and control group patients was 8.70% and 13.04%, respectively, and there was no statistically significant difference ([Formula: see text]) after comparison. Conclusion: Both dapagliflozin and linagliptin have shown good efficacy in the treatment of T2DM patients with normal BMI and poor efficacy in monotherapy with metformin. Compared to linagliptin, dapagliflozin can cause slight weight loss in patients, but its control effect on blood glucose and blood pressure is better than that of linagliptin. The risk of hypoglycemia is lower, and it has a protective effect on the kidneys. The disadvantage is that it slightly increases the risk of urogenital tract infections, Overall, it has high security and can be promoted for use.

Abstract Background Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are at high risk of drug-related problems (DRPs) because of extensive comorbidities and pharmacokinetic changes. This study aimed to identify DRPs and possible contributing factors in hospitalized patients with CKD, and evaluate the efficacy of the clinical pharmacist services in detection and intervention of DRPs in a large general hospital in Zhejiang Province, eastern China. Methods With the approval of the Ethics Committee, patients with CKD admitted to the nephrology ward from January to December 2020 were enrolled in this prospective study. The clinical pharmacist identified and intervened the DRPs during hospitalization. The DRPs were classified using the Pharmaceutical Care Network Europe (PCNE) DRP classification system, and all data were statistically analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 26.0. Results A total of 914 patients with CKD were included, with 463 DRPs observed among 420 (45.95%) participants; the average DRP per patient was 0.51 (standard deviation [SD], 0.60) before pharmacist intervention. Treatment safety accounted for the highest proportion of problems (43.84%), followed by treatment efficacy, accounting for 43.20%. Drug selection was the most common cause of DRPs (60.26%), and antibiotics and cardiovascular agents were the most common drugs associated with DRPs (32.84% and 28.66%, respectively). A total of 85.53% of pharmaceutical intervention recommendations were followed, and 84.23% of DRPs were completely resolved after intervention by the clinical pharmacist. The proportion of patients who experienced DRPs decreased to 7.77%, with an average of 0.08 (SD 0.28) DRPs during hospitalization after pharmacist’s intervention. Significant contributing factors for DRPs were CKD stage 4, number of comorbid diseases, number of prescribed medications, and hospitalization days in both the univariate and multivariate logistic regression models. Conclusion DRPs are common among hospitalized patients with CKD in China. CKD stage 4, the number of comorbidities, use of multiple prescription drugs, and extended length of hospital stay are contributing factors for DRPs. Even only one clinical nephrology pharmacist in the nephrology ward, clinical pharmacist can play an important role in facilitating the identification of DRPs in patients with CKD and assisting physicians resolve DRPs in this single center study in China.

Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) are a pervasive feature found in cancer and contain oncogenes and their corresponding regulatory elements. Their unique structural properties allow a rapid amplification of oncogenes and alter chromatin accessibility, leading to tumorigenesis and malignant development. The uneven segregation of ecDNA during cell division enhances intercellular genetic heterogeneity, which contributes to tumor evolution that might trigger drug resistance and chemotherapy tolerance. In addition, ecDNA has the ability to integrate into or detach from chromosomal DNA, such progress results into structural alterations and genomic rearrangements within cancer cells. Recent advances in multi-omics analysis revealing the genomic and epigenetic characteristics of ecDNA are anticipated to make valuable contributions to the development of precision cancer therapy. Herein, we conclud the mechanisms of ecDNA generation and the homeostasis of its dynamic structure. In addition to the latest techniques in ecDNA research including multi-omics analysis and biochemical validation methods, we also discuss the role of ecDNA in tumor development and treatment, especially in drug resistance, and future challenges of ecDNA in cancer therapy.

Abstract Microneme protein 2 (MIC2) and MIC2-associated protein (M2AP) play crucial roles in the gliding motility and host cell invasion of Toxoplasma gondii. Complex formation between MIC2 and M2AP is required for maturation and transport from the microneme to the parasite surface. Previous studies showed that M2AP associates with the 6th TSR domain of MIC2 (TSR6), but the detailed interaction remains unclear. In this study, we report crystal structures of M2AP alone and in complex with TSR6. TSR domains have an unusually thin, long structure with a layer of intercalated residues on one side. The non-layered side of TSR6 with hotspot residue His-620 at the center binds to M2AP. Remarkably, we show that TSR6 residue Y602 is dynamic; it equilibrates between being part of the layer (the layered state) and in a flipped-out state in the absence of M2AP. However, when bound to M2AP, Y602 shifts to the flipped-out state. Our findings provide insights into the association and stabilization of MIC2-M2AP complex, and may be used to develop new therapies to prevent infections caused by this parasite.

Phase change materials (PCMs) are materials that exhibit thermal response characteristics, allowing them to be utilized in the biological field for precise and controllable temperature regulation. Due to considerations of biosafety and the spatial limitations within human tissue, the amount of PCMs used in medical applications is relatively small. Therefore, researchers often augment PCMs with various materials to enhance their performance and increase their practical value. The dispersion of nanoparticles to modify the thermophysical properties of PCMs has emerged as a mature concept. This paper aims to elucidate the role of nanomaterials in addressing deficiencies and enhancing the performance of PCMs. Specifically, it discusses the dispersion methods and stabilization mechanisms of nanoparticles within PCMs, as well as their effects on thermophysical properties such as thermal conductivity, latent heat, and specific heat capacity. Furthermore, it explores how various nano-additives contribute to improved thermal conductivity and the mechanisms underlying enhanced latent heat and specific heat. Additionally, the potential applications of PCMs in biomedical fields are proposed. Finally, this paper provides a comprehensive analysis and offers suggestions for future research to maximize the utilization of nanomaterials in enhancing the thermophysical properties of PCMs for biomedical applications.

AIM: To analyze the clinical effect of 577nm subthreshold micropulse laser(SML)photocoagulation combined with intravitreal injection of Conbercept in the treatment of diabetic macular edema(DME)after vitrectomy in patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy(PDR).METHODS:A retrospective analysis was performed on 29 cases(30 eyes)of PDR patients who had DME after vitrectomy in our hospital from January 2019 to June 2021. They were divided into two groups according to different treatment methods: 14 cases(14 eyes)in the single injection group received intravitreal injection of Conbercept, and 15 cases(16 eyes)in the combined treatment group received 577nm SML photocoagulation in the macular area combined with intravitreal injection of Conbercept. The changes in best corrected visual acuity(BCVA)and central macular thickness(CMT)before and at 6 and 12mo after treatment, as well as the changes of multifocal electroretinogram(mfERG)before and at 12mo after treatment were compared between the two groups.RESULTS: The BCVA(LogMAR)of patients in both groups improved and CMT decreased after treatment for 6 and 12mo(all P0.05). Compared with the combined treatment group, the amplitude was slightly lower(23.02±3.13 vs. 26.50±3.33 μV/deg2)and the latency time was prolonged(38.75±1.62 vs. 34.21±3.06ms)in single injection group at 12mo(all P≤0.001). Abstract Background Members of the nuclear receptor‐binding SET domain (NSD) family of histone H3 lysine 36 methyltransferases comprise NSD1, NSD2 (MMSET/WHSC1), and NSD3 (Wolf–Hirschhorn syndrome candidate 1‐like 1, WHSC1L1). While the expression of NSD genes is essential to normal biological processes and cancer, knowledge of their expression levels to prognosticate in cancer remains unclear. Methods We analyzed the expression patterns for NSD family genes across multiple cancer types and examined their association with clinical features and patient survival profiles. Next, we explored the association between NSD3 expression and described features of the tumor microenvironment (TME) in PAAD, a severe type of pancreatic cancer. In particular, we correlated promoter methylation levels for NSD3 with patient outcomes in PAAD. Finally, we explored the putative oncogenic roles for NSD3 using a series of experiments with pancreatic cancer cells. Results We report that the expression of NSD family members is correlated with clinical prognosis across multiple types of cancers. Also, we demonstrate that NSD3 variants are most prevalent among NSD genes across cancers we analyzed. Notably, when compared with NSD1 and NSD2, we find that NSD3 is prominently expressed, and its expression is significantly linked with clinical outcome in pancreatic cancer. Furthermore, NSD3 is frequently amplified, exhibits low promoter methylation, and is correlated with immune cell infiltration and enhanced proliferation of pancreatic cancer. Finally, we demonstrate that knockdown of NSD3 alters H3K36me2 methylation, downstream gene expression and EGFR/ERK signaling in pancreatic cancer cells. Conclusions We find that expression levels, the presence of genetic variants of NSD family genes, as well as their promoter methylation are correlated with clinical outcomes in cancer, including pancreatic cancer. Our in vitro experiments suggest that NSD3 may be relevant to gene expression regulation and growth factor signaling in pancreatic cancer.

As a new detection technology, polarization imaging is of great significance in the field of target detection. At present, polarization imaging technology usually adopts visible light polarization imaging. The technique is difficult to image the target in complex background due to its narrow working spectrum and short detection distance. Therefore, based on the principle of full Stokes micro-polarizer array, this paper proposes a multi-spectral polarization imaging scheme and designs a multi-spectral polarization imaging detection system penetrating haze. Conducting indoor and outdoor polarized imaging experiments. Finally, image quality was assessed using metrics such as information entropy (EN), average gradient (AG), and standard deviation (STD). The results show that compared with traditional strength detection, the imaging system has significantly improved detection distance and imaging quality in smoky environments. The imaging system can effectively enhance the contours and details of the target object and improve detection and recognition capabilities.

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to identify predictive activation biomarkers in retinal microvascular characteristics of non-exudative macular neovascularization (MNV) and avoid delayed treatment or overtreatment of subclinical MNV. The main objective is to contribute to the international debate on a new understanding of the role of retinal vessel features in the pathogenesis and progression of non-exudative MNV and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). A discussion on revising-related clinical protocols is presented.MethodsIn this retrospective study, the authors included eyes with non-exudative MNV, eyes with exudative AMD, and normal eyes of age-matched healthy subjects. The parameters were obtained by optical coherence tomography (OCT) and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).ResultsIn total, 21 eyes with exudative AMD, 21 eyes with non-exudative MNV, and 20 eyes of 20 age-matched healthy subjects without retinal pathology were included. Vessel density (VD) of the deep vascular complex (DVC) in eyes with non-exudative MNV was significantly greater than that in eyes with exudative AMD (p = 0.002), while for superficial vascular plexus (SVP) metrics, no VD differences among sectors were observed between eyes with non-exudative MNV and eyes with exudative AMD.ConclusionThe reduction in retinal vessel density, especially in the DVC, seems to be involved in or be accompanied by non-exudative MNV activation and should be closely monitored during follow-up visits in order to ensure prompt anti-angiogenic therapy. A discussion on applicable clinical protocols is presented aiming to contribute to new insights into ophthalmology service development which is directed to this specific type of patient and diagnosis.

ABSTRACTBridge decks need to be routinely inspected to ensure their serviceability, capacity, and safety under current traffic conditions. Traditionally, bridge deck inspection is performed on the ground by having inspectors either visually inspect surface conditions or interpret the acoustic feedback from hammer sounding or chain dragging to determine subsurface conditions. These traditional methods have many limitations, including but not limited to, expensive, labour-intensive, time-consuming, subjective, can exhibit a high degree of variability, requiring specialized staff on a regular basis, and unsafe. Recent advancements in remote sensing, especially small-uncrewed aircraft systems (S-UAS) based airborne imaging techniques and advanced image analysis techniques, have shown promise in improving current bridge deck inspection practices by providing an above-ground inspection method. This research explored the utility of S-UAS-based airborne imaging techniques and image processing techniques to develop a complete aerial data acquisition and analysis system to accurately detect and assess bridge deck wearing surface distresses in a timely and cost-effective manner. As part of the research project, a robust tool was also developed with the aim of being able to detect, extract, and map bridge deck wearing surface distresses with an adequate degree of accuracy while maximizing the ability to assist bridge inspectors with varying expertise. Research results revealed that the developed tool is able to effectively detect and map bridge deck wearing surface distresses at a high accuracy.

AIM: To investigate the efficacy and safety of intravitreal injection of Conbercept combined with 25G minimally invasive pars plana vitrectomy(PPV)at the end of surgery for early proliferative diabetic retinopathy(PDR)with vitreous hemorrhage.METHODS: A total of 60 patients(60 eyes)with PDR complicated with vitreous hemorrhage requiring PPV at the Affiliated Eye Hospital of Nanjing Medical University were retrospectively analyzed. Based on the injection timing of Conbercept, the patients were divided into 3 groups: 20 patients(20 eyes)injected at the end of the surgery(group A), 20 patients(20 eyes)injected preoperatively(group B), and 20 patients(20 eyes)without injection(group C). The differences in pre- and post-operative visual acuity, intraocular pressure, intraoperative conditions, prognosis, and complications were analyzed among the 3 groups.RESULTS: There were no significant differences in the preoperative conditions and operation time among the patients. There was no iatrogenic retinal hole or silicone oil tamponade during the operation in the 3 groups, and no recurrent retinal detachment occurred after the operations. Best corrected visual acuity(BCVA)at 1, 3 and 6mo of all groups were improved compared with those before the surgery(P

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is currently the most harmful greenhouse gas in the atmosphere. Obtaining long-term, high-resolution atmospheric column CO2 concentration (XCO2) datasets is of great practical significance for mitigating the greenhouse effect, identifying and controlling carbon emission sources, and achieving carbon cycle management. However, mainstream satellite observations provide XCO2 datasets with coarse spatial resolution, which is insufficient to support the needs of higher-precision research. To address this gap, in this study, we integrate spatial information with the extreme random trees model and develop a new machine learning model called spatial extreme random trees (SExtraTrees) to reconstruct a 1 km spatial resolution XCO2 dataset for China from 2016 to 2020. The results indicate that the predictive ability of spatial extreme random trees is more stable and has higher fitting accuracy compared to other methods. Overall, XCO2 in China shows an increasing trend year by year, with the spatial distribution revealing significantly higher XCO2 levels in eastern coastal regions compared to western inland areas. The contributions of this study are primarily in the following areas: (1) Considering the spatial heterogeneity of XCO2 and combining spatial features with the advantages of machine learning, we construct the spatial extreme random trees model, which is verified to have high predictive accuracy. (2) Using the spatial extreme random trees model, we reconstruct high-resolution XCO2 datasets for China from 2016 to 2020, providing data support for carbon emission reduction and related decision making. For the variation of the polarized Mueller matrix of oil smoke particles under different relative humidity levels, the polarized single scattering characteristics of oil smoke particles are studied by using the Mie scattering theory, and the multiple scattering simulation is implemented with the Monte Carlo method. Variation in relative humidity is achieved by changing in mixing of the oil smoke and the water fog particles during the same dry particle filling time. Using the 36 sets of polarized Mueller matrices method, the Mueller matrix patterns of oil smoke were calculated for four conditions of 0%, 10%, 40%, and 95% relative humidity, respectively. We can verify the simulation’s correctness from the simulation and the experimental results. Specifically, as the relative humidity increases, the size of the Mueller matrix pattern increases, and the patterns of m22, m33, and m44 related to the depolarization characteristic change significantly. Furthermore, the scattering depolarization coefficients of the Mueller matrix polar decomposition increase with the increasing relative humidity, with the ability of depolarization being continuously enhanced. This method determines differences in relative humidity using intuitive measurements of stabilized scattering patterns, which can present a theoretical basis for the impact of environmental variation on polarization detection.

Nonpharmacological therapies for Alzheimer's disease (AD) have become a popular research topic, and acoustic stimulation during sleep is one such promising strategy for the clinical treatment of AD. Some animal experiments have illustrated that acoustic stimulation at a specific frequency can ameliorate AD-related pathology or improve cognition in mice, but these studies did not explore the effective time window of auditory stimulation. Here, we explored the effects of acoustic stimulation during wakefulness and acoustic stimulation during sleep on cognition and AD-related pathology in APP/PS1 mice and the underlying mechanisms. In this study, forty APP/PS1 mice were equally divided into the following 4 groups and treated for 28 days: the chronic sleep deprivation (CSD) group (exposed to sleep deprivation from zeitgeber time [ZT] 0 to ZT 12 each day), the normal sleep and stress exposure (NSS) group (exposed to a stressor from ZT 0 to ZT 12 each day), the acoustic stimulation during wakefulness (ASW) group (exposed to sleep deprivation and 40 Hz acoustic stimulation from ZT 0 to ZT 12 each day) and the acoustic stimulation during sleep (ASS) group (exposed to sleep deprivation from ZT 0 to ZT 12 and 40 Hz acoustic stimulation from ZT 12 to ZT 24 each day). After the intervention, cognition was assessed by behavioural experiments. The amyloid-β burden was analysed by Western blotting, immunofluorescence and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Tau pathology was assessed by Western blotting. Mitochondrial function was evaluated by transmission electron microscopy, Western blotting and fluorescence intensity measurement. We found that the NSS and ASS groups had better cognitive functions than the CSD and ASW groups. The Aβ burden and tau phosphorylation were lower in the NSS and ASS groups than in the CSD and ASW groups. Mitochondrial function was better in the NSS and ASS groups than in the CSD and ASW groups. However, the differences in these parameters between the NSS and ASS groups and between the CSD and ASW groups were not significant. Our findings suggest that acoustic stimulation at a specific frequency during sleep, but not during wakefulness, reduces the amyloid-β burden by inhibiting amyloid beta precursor protein-binding protein 2, hinders tau phosphorylation by blocking glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta, and restores mitochondrial function by elevating mitophagy and promoting mitochondrial biogenesis.

Sea spray particles are a type of non-uniform, non-spherical, non-isotropic, and complex medium, and the study of the transmission characteristics of polarized light in a real sea spray environment can provide reference values in many fields, such as polarization imaging, marine target detection, and LiDAR, which can make up for the vacancy of polarized light transmission in a complex sea spray environment. In this paper, a real sea fog test is carried out in the Qingdao Sea area of China in the horizontal/oblique direction, and a platform for generating and detecting polarized light with multiple tilt angles is constructed by using the active test method, which realizes the test scheme for the characteristics of energy change and polarization state change in the linearly polarized light and circularly polarized light at different visibility levels in sea fog environments. The results show that it is more difficult to deflect the circularly polarized light than linearly polarized light at the same sea spray visibility level. With the increase in the tilt angle, a decrease in the polarization is observed. The polarization of the near-infrared light is always larger than that of the visible light, which indicates that the circularly polarized light has better polarization preservation than the linearly polarized light and the polarization preservation of the near-infrared light is better than that of the visible light.

ABSTRACT Drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) poses a major threat to global TB control; consequently, there is an urgent need to develop novel anti-TB drugs or strategies. Host-directed therapy (HDT) is emerging as an effective treatment strategy, especially for drug-resistant TB. This study evaluated the effects of berbamine (BBM), a bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloid, on mycobacterial growth in macrophages. BBM inhibited intracellular Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) growth by promoting autophagy and silencing ATG5, partially abolishing the inhibitory effect. In addition, BBM increased intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS), while the antioxidant N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) abolished BBM-induced autophagy and the ability to inhibit Mtb survival. Furthermore, the increased intracellular Ca2+ concentration induced by BBM was regulated by ROS, and BAPTA-AM, an intracellular Ca2+-chelating agent, could block ROS-mediated autophagy and Mtb clearance. Finally, BBM could inhibit the survival of drug-resistant Mtb. Collectively, these findings provide evidence that BBM, a Food and Drug Administration (FDA)–approved drug, could effectively clear drug-sensitive and -resistant Mtb through regulating ROS/Ca2+ axis-mediated autophagy and has potential as an HDT candidate for TB therapy. IMPORTANCE It is urgent to develop novel treatment strategies against drug-resistant TB, and HDT provides a promising approach to fight drug-resistant TB by repurposing old drugs. Our studies demonstrate, for the first time, that BBM, an FDA-approved drug, not only potently inhibits intracellular drug-sensitive Mtb growth but also restricts drug-resistant Mtb by promoting macrophage autophagy. Mechanistically, BBM activates macrophage autophagy by regulating the ROS/Ca2+ axis. In conclusion, BBM could be considered as an HDT candidate and may contribute to improving the outcomes or shortening the treatment course of drug-resistant TB.

Ganoderenic acid D (GAD), extracted from the Chinese herb Ganoderma lucidum, was loaded onto a graphene oxide-polyethylene glycol-anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (GO-PEG-EGFR) carrier to develop a targeting antitumor nanocomposite (GO-PEG@GAD). The carrier was fabricated from PEG and anti-EGFR aptamer modified GO. Targeting was mediated by the grafted anti-EGFR aptamer, which targets the membrane of HeLa cells. Physicochemical properties were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, X-ray powder diffraction, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. High loading content (77.3 % ± 1.08 %) and encapsulation efficiency (89.1 % ± 2.11 %) were achieved. Drug release continued for approximately 100 h. The targeting effect both in vitro and in vivo was confirmed by confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) and imaging analysis system. The mass of the subcutaneous implanted tumor was significantly decreased by 27.27 ± 1.23 % after treatment with GO-PEG@GAD compared with the negative control group. Moreover, the in vivo anti-cervical carcinoma activity of this medicine was due to activation of the intrinsic mitochondrial pathway.

In this paper, the scattering characteristics of polarized light are studied based on the microsurface element theory, and the Polarization Bi-directional Reflection Distribution Function (pBRDF) model applicable to rough surfaces is established according to the three-component model, and the expression of polarization of reflected light from the target surface is derived based on the model, and the accuracy of the model is verified by comparing the model with the conventional model. The modeling is also carried out from the scattering perspective, and the relationship between different artificial target particle diameters and polarization characteristics is analyzed. The results show that the Degree Of Polarization (DOP) is strongly related to the detection zenith angle. The DOP of the target is largest in the direction of the mirror reflection of the source. The polarization characteristics of different materials are different, and the relative error of the established model is significantly smaller than that of the conventional model. And the scattering model can make preliminary classification of different man-made targets according to different particle diameters, which can provide theoretical support for the analysis of the polarization characteristics of the target surface.

Abstract Background Tuberculosis (TB) caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tb) remains a global health issue. The characterized virulent M. tb H37Rv, avirulent M. tb H37Ra and BCG strains are widely used as reference strains to investigate the mechanism of TB pathogenicity. Here, we attempted to determine metabolomic signatures associated with the Mycobacterial virulence in human macrophages through comparison of metabolite profile in THP-1-derived macrophages following exposure to the M. tb H37Rv, M. tb H37Ra and BCG strains. Results Our findings revealed remarkably changed metabolites in infected macrophages compared to uninfected macrophages. H37Rv infection specifically induced 247 differentially changed metabolites compared to H37Ra or BCG infection. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis revealed H37Rv specifically induces tryptophan metabolism. Moreover, quantitative PCR (qPCR) results showed that indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) and tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase 2 (TDO2) which converts the tryptophan to a series of biologically second metabolites were up-regulated in H37Rv-infected macrophages compared to H37Ra- or BCG-infected macrophages, confirming the result of enhanced tryptophan metabolism induced by H37Rv infection. These findings indicated that targeting tryptophan (Trp) metabolism may be a potential therapeutic strategy for pulmonary TB. Conclusions We identified a number of differentially changed metabolites that specifically induced in H37Rv infected macrophages. These signatures may be associated with the Mycobacterial virulence in human macrophages. The present findings provide a better understanding of the host response associated with the virulence of the Mtb strain.

AIM: To comparatively analyze the efficacy of subthreshold laser photocoagulation with the NAVILAS® Laser system and subthreshold micropulse laser for patients with chronic central serous chorioretinopathy(cCSC).METHODS: A retrospective clinical study. A total of 36 patients(40 eyes)with cCSC were recruited from January 2020 to January 2021 diagnosed at the Affiliated Eye Hospital of Nanjing Medical University. There were 19 patients(23 eyes)treated with subthreshold navigated laser photocoagulation(the Navilas group), and 17 patients(17 eyes)treated with subthreshold micropulse laser(SML)(the SML group). There was no significant difference in baseline data between the two groups(P>0.05). The best corrected visual acuity(BCVA, LogMAR), central macular thickness(CMT), subretinal fluid(SRF)height, vessel densities of the superficial capillary plexus(SCP), the deep capillary plexus(DCP)and area of the foveal avascular zone(FAZ)were collected at 2wk, 1, 3 and 6mo before and after treatment.RESULTS: The BCVA of the two groups were significantly higher than that before treatment at 3 and 6mo after surgery(P0.05). The difference in SRF absorption between the two groups was statistically significant(P0.05).CONCLUSION: Subthreshold laser photocoagulation with the NAVILAS® Laser system can rapidly improve the retinal morphology and shorten the course of cCSC to improve the recovery of visual function with its rapid effect, high cost-effectiveness, non-invasiveness and high repeatability, which can be a new clinical method for patients with cCSC.

The Yangtze River Delta region is one of the most active regions in China’s economic development and financial innovation, and its green finance is at the leading level in the country. To promote the integrated development of green finance in China’s Yangtze River Delta and boost high-quality economic development, this paper uses the data of three provinces and one city in the Yangtze River Delta from 2010 to 2021, constructs the green finance development index and the high-quality economic development index by entropy weight method, and constructs the VAR model to analyze the interaction between the two. The coupling coordination model is used to analyze the coupling coordination degree between green finance and high-quality economic development, and the correlation between green finance and high-quality economic development is deeply analyzed by using the gray correlation method. Finally, the gray prediction model is used to predict the coupling coordination between green finance and high-quality economic development. The research shows that green finance and high-quality economic development have short-term mutual promotion effects, and the coupling and coordination are good, but there are regional differences. The overall degree of correlation between the two is medium to upper, and the interaction force is strong. From the forecast results, the coupling coordination and coupling priority of the Yangtze River Delta region show positive development, and Anhui Province has more room for improvement. Based on the above research, this paper proposes to establish a green finance integrated development mechanism to promote regional green finance synergistic development, promote green finance infrastructure interconnection to better realize resource allocation and information sharing, attract more professionals to participate in green finance innovation, and build a favorable external development environment for green finance.

Cubic rock salt can lower down or break the rare earth transition barrier through interstitial or vacancy defects owing to its great deformation and rotation flexibility. Here, we demonstrate that oxygen vacancies in SrO are induced by proper oxidization and atmosphere adjustment, resulting in defects with various depths and crystal field distortion. The thermally assisted tunneling from defects to 5D4 state and electronic population decrease on 5D3 state of Tb3+ are observed by the deformation of adjacent oxygen octahedral structure. Finally, the as-prepared SrO: 0.01 ​Tb3+ phosphors, commercial BaMgAl10O17: Eu2+ blue phosphor, and CaAlSiN3: Eu2+ red phosphor are mixed and coated onto 280 ​nm deep-ultraviolet LED chip to assemble white light-emitting LED device. The LEDs show CCT of 3850 ​K, 4136 ​K, and 4741 ​K, with color rendering index of 90.3, 90.8, and 92.1, respectively. These insights will advance the fundamental knowledge of crystal engineering in cubic rock salt, and enable new ways to manipulate energy transfer and electronic transition via defects.

Considering the advancement in marine research in recent years, studies on the identification of offshore scenery are becoming popular globally. In this study, multiband polarimetric imaging is presented to address the deficiencies of the previous single-band study. Polarization imaging experiments of sea fog and non-sea fog in an indoor simulated environment are carried out and compared and analyzed by establishing an artificial simulation system to characterize the sea fog concentration by optical thickness with different concentrations of sea fog environment as the medium. The polarization information of each waveband converted by Stokes parametric is then brought into the two-dimensional discrete wavelet algorithm for image fusion processing. The findings indicate that when the optical thickness of sea fog increases, the polarized light in the chaotic medium recedes and the effect of the image blurs. Finally, after the image fusion process, the contrast of the image is improved and the detail of the target contour is obvious, which proves that the method has good robustness under the low signal-to-noise ratio of the sea fog environment. This provides a solid platform for targeted surveys and civic operations under dense marine fog conditions.

Endometrial cancer (EC) is a prevalent epithelial malignancy in the uterine corpus’s endometrium and myometrium. Regulating apoptosis of endometrial cancer cells has been a promising approach for treating EC. Recent in-vitro and in-vivo studies show that numerous extracts and monomers from natural products have pro-apoptotic properties in EC. Therefore, we have reviewed the current studies regarding natural products in modulating the apoptosis of EC cells and summarized their potential mechanisms. The potential signaling pathways include the mitochondria-dependent apoptotic pathway, endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) mediated apoptotic pathway, the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) mediated apoptotic pathway, NF-κB-mediated apoptotic pathway, PI3K/AKT/mTOR mediated apoptotic pathway, the p21-mediated apoptotic pathway, and other reported pathways. This review focuses on the importance of natural products in treating EC and provides a foundation for developing natural products-based anti-EC agents.

Abstract Endothelial dysfunction is considered a predominant driver for pulmonary vascular remodeling in pulmonary hypertension (PH). SOX17, a key regulator of vascular homoeostasis, has been found to harbor mutations in PH patients, which are associated with PH susceptibility. Here, this study explores whether SOX17 mediates the autocrine activity of pulmonary artery ECs to maintain endothelial function and vascular homeostasis in PH and its underlying mechanism. It is found that SOX17 expression is downregulated in the endothelium of remodeled pulmonary arteries in IPH patients and SU5416/hypoxia (Su/hypo)‐induced PH mice as well as dysfunctional HPAECs. Endothelial knockdown of SOX17 accelerates the progression of Su/hypo‐induced PH in mice. SOX17 overexpression in the pulmonary endothelium of mice attenuates Su/hypo‐induced PH. SOX17‐associated exosomes block the proliferation, apoptosis, and inflammation of HPAECs, preventing pulmonary arterial remodeling and Su/hypo‐induced PH. Mechanistic analyses demonstrates that overexpressing SOX17 promotes the exosome‐mediated release of miR‐224‐5p and miR‐361‐3p, which are internalized by injured HPAECs in an autocrine manner, ultimately repressing the upregulation of NR4A3 and PCSK9 genes and improving endothelial function. These results suggest that SOX17 is a key gene in maintaining endothelial function and vascular homeostasis in PH through regulating exosomal miRNAs in an autocrine manner.

Using Gaia DR3 data, we revisit 56 high Galactic latitude (∣ b ∣ ≥ 30°) open cluster (OC) candidates with poor shapes of color–magnitude diagrams (CMDs), including unclear and paired main sequences (MSs). We aim to confirm their physical reality and explore whether the special MS morphology is intrinsic to genuine OCs. Initially, we redetermine cluster memberships by integrating five outlier detection algorithms into pyUPMASK. However, this work fails to reproduce the 56 clusters. Instead, we find an alternative set of 56 clusters, six of which are non-duplicates. To ascertain whether the six clusters are real OCs, we build synthetic CMDs to derive reliable cluster properties, including fundamental parameters, binary fraction, and mass of the cluster. Subsequently, we investigate the structural parameters and the age–mass and mass–radius relations of the six candidate OCs. Finally, we utilize a multidimensional approach, incorporating cluster properties, spatial structure, kinematic attributes, and CMD verification, to assess their physical reality as genuine OCs further. Our results suggest that the six candidates should be physical OCs, exhibiting well-defined CMD characteristics. Moreover, we discover two of the six OCs as potential binary clusters.

Gaia DR3 data provide the latest and full astrometric data for more than 1.5 billion sources, and these allow us to revisit the 77 special open cluster candidates collected from LISC star cluster catalog. According to their unclear color–magnitude-diagram (CMD) morphology, they are difficult to be ensured as real open clusters (OCs), and their cluster properties are still poorly known. We perform a cluster census by reidentification for these clusters using pyUPMASK based on the photometric and astrometric stellar information. We have redetected these 77 objects and they should be real OCs, of which five clusters are potential binary clusters. Their basic parameters are obtained by fitting isochrones to observed CMDs. Our results show that their CMDs display more clean main sequences (MSs) and less member stars lying on the right of lower MSs relative to most of clusters in our initial sample, but broad MSs have not changed significantly. We suggest that efficient clustering algorithm combined with precision data can only partly reduce some stars lying on the right of lower MSs, and a simple stellar population of binary and rotating stars can partly reproduce multiple MS phenomena, including split and broad MSs.

Star sensors undergo laboratory calibration before they leave the factory. In addition, recalibration is necessary after they experience vibration, deformation, etc. Using the analysis of attitude-dependent and attitude-independent interstar angular invariance calibration methods (IAICMs) as a reference, an attitude-correlated frame-based calibration method (ACFCM) is proposed in this work, which combines the advantages of both methods. Using outdoor star observations, the ACFCM correlates star image frames obtained at different times via a strapdown gyro unit. As a result, the number of efficient star images for calibration increases rapidly and the distribution of star images becomes much more uniform, thus improving the calibration accuracy of the star sensor. A simulation and experimental tests were designed and carried out. Both the simulation and experimental results verify the feasibility of the proposed ACFCM method. Furthermore, by comparing our method with the IAICMs, the repeatability and reliability of the principal point obtained from the calibration with the ACFCM method proposed in this work were significantly improved.

Introduction Amphetamine-type stimulants (ATSs) are presenting a great challenge to global public health along with its worldwide abuse in recent years. Protracted amphetamine abstinence syndrome (PAAS) is one of the primary causes of relapse for ATS abusers during withdrawal. However, different conclusions are reached by previous trials. This study is designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture in treating PAAS.Methods and analysis Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), PsycINFO, ProQuest Dissertation and Theses, Allied and Complementary Medicine Database (AMED), ClinicalTrials.gov and who.int/trialsearch will be searched from the inception to February 2023 and language will be restricted to English and Chinese. Eligible randomised controlled trials will be included. The primary outcome is the intensity of withdrawal syndrome. The secondary outcomes include: (1) intensity of pain, anxiety, depression and other associated symptoms; (2) number of participants with relapse; (3) retention of treatment and (4) nature and rate of adverse effects. Data synthesis will be performed by using RevMan (V.5.4). The quality of evidence will be evaluated by the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation approach. This study will strictly adhere to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis guidelines.Ethics and dissemination Ethical approval is not required as this is a systematic review and meta-analysis based on previously published studies that do not involve patients’ privacy. Abstract Background Protracted amphetamine abstinence syndrome is one of the primary causes of relapse for amphetamine-type drug abusers during withdrawal. However, the importance of the management of protracted amphetamine abstinence syndrome is underestimated. Electro-acupuncture may be a safe and effective alternative therapy for protracted amphetamine abstinence syndrome, but the evidence is limited. Methods The study is a prospective, two-center, randomized, waitlist controlled, open-label pragmatic trial. A total of 300 patients with protracted amphetamine abstinence syndrome will be recruited. All participants will be randomly assigned to an electro-acupuncture group or a waitlist group in a 1:1 ratio. Participants in the electro-acupuncture group will receive the electrical-acupuncture treatment. Waitlist group participants will not receive electro-acupuncture treatment but will be assessed at each visit. Treatments will be administered twice a week for a total of 4 consecutive weeks. The primary outcome in this study is the change in the ACSA between baseline (week 0) and the completion of treatment (week 4), and the secondary outcomes are changes in the Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD), the visual analog scale (VAS), the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA), the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), and the Medical Outcomes Study 36-item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36). Discussion This study will assess the effectiveness of acupuncture in PAAS in real-world settings to provide support for clinical decisions and a basis for subsequent trials comparing acupuncture with other positive regimens. Infrared polarization imaging has demonstrated significant advantages in target detection and recognition in natural environments. While there have been numerous research achievements on medium-wave/long-wave infrared polarization in a single band, there is a lack of related conclusions on the characteristics of wide spectral two-color infrared polarization imaging. To address this gap, this article employs a theoretical model in infrared polarization imaging to investigate the influence of temperature, incident angle, and refractive index on polarization degree and polarization angle. These findings have been substantiated through discussions on experimental results. We conducted a comparative analysis between intensity imaging and polarization imaging within the framework of traditional single-band infrared imaging. We then delineated the benefits of dual-color infrared polarization imaging. Finally, we harnessed image registration fusion algorithms to amalgamate multiple-band images. Our findings demonstrate that this fusion technique not only enables penetration through water mist but also enhances target visibility, providing theoretical support for all-weather target detection and identification.

A diode-end-pumped self-mode-locked Tm,Ho:LuLiF4 (LLF) laser is demonstrated for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. At the incident pump power of 3.4 W, the stable self-mode-locked operation of the Tm,Ho:LLF laser was realized without any additional devices in the resonator. Further increasing the incident pump power to 6.8 W, the maximum average output power of 1.07 W was achieved at 2068 nm with a pulse width of 746 ps and a repetition frequency of 468 MHz. The experimental results indicate that the Tm,Ho:LLF crystal is promising to generate the high-power self-mode-locked solid-state laser at 2 μm waveband. The self-mode-locked Tm,Ho:LLF laser has potential applications in optical communication, remote sensing, material process, and nonlinear frequency conversion.

Non-contact and non-destructive polarization 3D imaging uses a passive, single-frame array image to calculate 3D information, making it possible to obtain high-precision 3D information about tunnel cracks, and offering outstanding technical advantages. Based on the introduction of the principle of crack detection with polarization 3D imaging, a tunnel lining crack detection plan was developed and a detection equipment was designed. The method and process of polarization 3D imaging for lining crack detection are described in detail. A model of the impact of the tunnel environment on 3D detection and a method for obtaining absolute information have been established to obtain high-precision 3D information about cracks. In a real tunnel environment, tests were conducted to detect wide cracks, narrow cracks, and artificial cracks. The crack detection accuracy with respect to the crack width was 0.2–0.3 mm, and with respect to crack length was 0.2–0.3 mm. At the same time, crack depth information could be obtained. The present research results can provide technical support for the application of polarization 3D imaging in tunnel crack detection.

Simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) algorithms are widely applied in fields such as autonomous driving and target tracking. However, the effect of moving objects on localization and mapping remains a challenge in natural dynamic scenarios. To overcome this challenge, this paper proposes an algorithm for dynamic point cloud detection that fuses laser and visual identification data, the multi-stage moving object identification algorithm (MoTI). The MoTI algorithm consists of two stages: rough processing and precise processing. In the rough processing stage, a statistical method is employed to preliminarily detect dynamic points based on the range image error of the point cloud. In the precise processing stage, the radius search strategy is used to statistically test the nearest neighbor points. Next, visual identification information and point cloud registration results are fused using a method of statistics and information weighting to construct a probability model for identifying whether a point cloud cluster originates from a moving object. The algorithm is integrated into the front-end of the LOAM system, which significantly improves the localization accuracy. The MoTI algorithm is evaluated on an actual indoor dynamic environment and several KITTI datasets, and the results demonstrate its ability to accurately detect dynamic targets in the background and improve the localization accuracy of the robot.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to explore possible associations between molecular subtypes and site of distant metastasis in advanced breast cancer (ABC).Methods3577 ABC patients were selected from 21 hospitals of seven geographic regions in China from 2012-2014. A questionnaire was designed to collect medical information regarding demographic characteristics, risk factors, molecular subtype, recurrence/metastasis information, and disease-free survival (DFS). The cancers were classified into Luminal A, Luminal B, HER2-enriched and Triple Negative subtypes. Chi-square test and multivariate Cox proportional hazard models were performed to explore the associations between molecular subtypes and distant metastasis sites.ResultsA total of 2393 cases with molecular subtypes information were finally examined. Patients with Luminal A (51.1%) and Luminal B (44.7%) were most prone to bone metastasis, whereas liver metastasis was more frequently observed in HER2-enriched ABC patients (29.1%).The cumulative recurrence and metastasis rates of ABC patients at 36 months of DFS were the most significant within molecular types, of which Triple Negative was the highest (82.7%), while that of Luminal A was the lowest (58.4%). In the adjusted Cox regression analysis, Luminal B, HER2-enriched and Triple Negative subtypes increased the risk of visceral metastasis by 23%, 46% and 87% respectively. In addition, Triple Negative patients had a higher probability of brain metastasis (HR 3.07, 95% CI: 1.04-9.07).ConclusionMolecular subtypes can predict the preferential sites of distant metastasis, emphasizing that these associations were of great help in choices for surveillance, developing appropriate screening and cancer management strategies for follow-up and personalized therapy in ABC patients.

Marine exploration has become a popular field of concern and research all over the world. The impact of sea fog on ocean exploration is very great, and how to carry out accurate identification of targets in the sea fog environment is a problem we urgently need to solve. In this paper, we simulated and analyzed the particle distribution characteristics of the sea fog layer by using the principle of Mie scattering, designed a spectral polarization imaging system by using Liquid Crystal Variable Retarder (LCVR) and Liquid Crystal Tunable Filter (LCTF) according to the principle of spectral spectroscopy and polarization imaging, conducted calibration experiments on liquid crystal tunable filter, and carried out experiments on visibility, wavelength and imaging distance that affect the experimental results of polarization imaging of sea fog environment. The experimental results show that the polarization decreases with the increase of imaging distance; in the typical visibility (5 km for light fog, 0.5 km for medium fog and 0.05 km for dense fog), the higher the visibility, the higher the polarization; for the typical wavelengths of visible light (450 nm, 530 nm and 670 nm), the polarization increase with the increase of wavelength.

Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), as an important tumor therapy, can induce severe proteinuria that significantly affects anti-tumor therapy. Existing therapies against proteinuria induced by other etiologies are currently ineffective for TKI-induced proteinuria. It has been shown that various types of proteinuria are related to podocyte damage caused by changes in the RelA signaling pathway. Our experiments confirmed that TKIs activate the renal RelA signaling pathway, and induce death of podocytes and destruction of the glomerular filtration barrier. Here we found that Liuwei Dihuang Pill (LDP) attenuated the inflammatory injury of podocytes through inhibiting activation of RelA, and subsequently relieved TKI-related proteinuria and prevented the progression of TMA and FSGS. Our finding indicated that LDP may be effective for the treatment of TKI-induced proteinuria, which is clinically significant.

The lamin B receptor (LBR) gene is located in chromosome 1q42.12 and encodes the lamin B receptor, an intracellular protein that binds to lamin B. LBR mutations are associated with a broad phenotypic spectrum ranging from non-lethal to lethal skeletal dysplasias. The typical phenotypes include the Pelger−Huet anomaly (PHA) and embryonic lethal Greenberg dysplasia (GRBGD). With the further study of this gene, other phenotypes have been found in different individuals. This retrospective study analyzed recurrent prenatal moderate skeletal dysplasias in Chinese fetuses. Nothing malformed was detected in the fetal karyotype and microarray, while the whole-exome sequencing identified a homozygous variant (NM_002296.4:c.1757G>A, NP_002287.2:p.Arg586His) in exon 14 of the LBR gene in both fetuses. Mutation analysis in the parents confirmed that the c.1757G>A variation is heterozygous by Sanger sequencing. Intensive analysis on bioinformatics and familial co-segregation suggest that the homozygous variation in the LBR gene is responsible for this recurrent prenatal moderate skeletal dysplasia. Moreover, moderate skeletal dysplasias differ from typical GRBGD phenotypes. Our findings are based on the DNA base test and the prenatal diagnosis of skeletal dysplasia, which can be helpful in proper phenotyping and contribute to a better understanding of the correlation between the phenotype and genotype.

Abstract Background Acute pulmonary embolism (PE) is one of the leading causes of maternal mortality, and cesarean section is an established independent risk factor for PE. The diagnostic utility of D-dimer for PE in non-pregnant women has been well-established, but its role in women with suspected PE after cesarean section is unclear. Furthermore, the optimal threshold level in this patient population is unknown. Traditional D-dimer levels have low diagnostic specificity, resulting in many pregnant women being exposed to potentially harmful radiation despite negative diagnostic imaging results. This research aimed to optimize the clinical threshold for D-dimer to improve specificity while ensuring high sensitivity and to identify risk factors for PE after cesarean section. Methods This retrospective study of 289 women who underwent diagnostic imaging (ventilation/perfusion [V/Q] or computed tomographic pulmonary angiography [CTPA]) for suspected acute PE after cesarean delivery from 2010 to 2021 was conducted. Clinical data and laboratory indicators within 24 h postpartum including D-dimer levels were collected for analyses. Results The final analysis included 125 patients, among whom 33 were diagnosed with acute PE (incidence of 11.42%, 95% confidence interval 7.7–15.1). The receiver operating characteristic curve analysis suggested that a D-dimer cut-off value of 800 ng/mL had specificity of 25.26% and sensitivity of 100% for detecting PE. The cut-off value was adjusted to 1000 ng/mL with a specificity of 34.74% and a sensitivity of 96.67%. Using a D-dimer cut-off value of 800 ng/mL (instead of the conventional value of 500 ng/mL) increased the number of patients excluded from suspected PE from 9.6 to 18.4% without additional false-negative results. Abstract Emerging evidence indicates that resolution of inflammation is a critical and dynamic endogenous process for host tissues defending against external invasive pathogens or internal tissue injury. It has long been known that autoimmune diseases and chronic inflammatory disorders are characterized by dysregulated immune responses, leading to excessive and uncontrol tissue inflammation. The dysregulation of epigenetic alterations including DNA methylation, posttranslational modifications to histone proteins, and noncoding RNA expression has been implicated in a host of inflammatory disorders and the immune system. The inflammatory response is considered as a critical trigger of epigenetic alterations that in turn intercede inflammatory actions. Thus, understanding the molecular mechanism that dictates the outcome of targeting epigenetic regulators for inflammatory disease is required for inflammation resolution. In this article, we elucidate the critical role of the nuclear factor‐κB signaling pathway, JAK/STAT signaling pathway, and the NLRP3 inflammasome in chronic inflammatory diseases. And we formulate the relationship between inflammation, coronavirus disease 2019, and human cancers. Additionally, we review the mechanism of epigenetic modifications involved in inflammation and innate immune cells. All that matters is that we propose and discuss the rejuvenation potential of interventions that target epigenetic regulators and regulatory mechanisms for chronic inflammation‐associated diseases to improve therapeutic outcomes.

In the present scenario of development in technology, the applications of stretchable conductive elastomers in modern electronic equipments have aroused great interest. Non-covalent bonding modification of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) using dopamine has improved the dispersion of CNT@PDA and interfacial interaction with the rubber matrix. The SiO2@Ag core-shell particles were prepared by coated with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on the surface of SiO2 using dopamine oxidation self-polymerization and electroless plating process. ESBR composites were prepared by latex co-coagulation method, where CNT@PDA and SiO2@Ag were used to develop an 1D-3D synergistic conductive network in ESBR composites. One-dimensional (1D) CNT@PDA were incorporated in three-dimensional (3D) spherical SiO2@Ag core-shell particles, which effectively prevented the agglomeration of SiO2@Ag and CNT@PDA. Again, 1D CNT@PDA could also be used as bridges to interact with 3D SiO2@Ag to develop the charge transfer more effectively in ESBR composites. The optimum electrical conductivity of the ESBR/CNT@PDA/SiO2@Ag composites was 0.2 S/cm, which was found to be higher than that of single filler. Moreover, the high electrical conductivity can be controlled at low tensile strain. The mechanical property of ESBR/CNT@PDA/SiO2@Ag composite was also improved by 105.4% as compared by ESBR/CNTs. This work provides a new idea for the fabrication of stretchable conductive elastomer composites with high performance.
