Abstract

Abstract Estimating the state of health (SOH) of batteries powering electronic devices in real-time while in use is a necessity. The applicability of most of the existing methods is limited to the datasets that are used to train the models. In this work, we propose a generic method for SOH estimation with much wider applicability. The key problem is the identification of the right feature set which is derived from measurable voltage signals. In this work, relative rise in voltage drop across cell resistance with aging has been used as the feature. A base artificial neural network (ANN) model has been used to map the generic relation between voltage and SOH. The base ANN model has been trained using limited battery data. Blind testing has been done on long cycle in-house data and publicly available datasets. In-house data included both laboratory and on-device data generated using various charge profiles. Transfer learning has been used for public datasets as those batteries have different physical dimensions and cell chemistry. The mean absolute error in SOH estimation is well within 2% for all test cases. The model is robust across scenarios such as cell variability, charge profile difference, and limited variation in temperature.

Abstract

In this study, ultra-fine graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) were employed as nanofillers to reinforce a polypropylene (PP) matrix. This was done in conjunction with a polypropylene grafted maleic anhydride (PP-MAH) compatibilizer and calcium carbonate (CaCO3), with the aim of improving the mechanical and thermal properties of the resulting hybrid composites. Formulations for the hybrid composites were fabricated by compounding the PP matrix with varying weight percentages of GNPs (x = 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0), 2 wt.% CaCO3, and 5 wt.% PP-MAH using a twin-screw extruder followed by injection molding. This research thoroughly investigates the mechanical and thermal characteristics. X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) results confirm the successful development of hybrid composites. The thermal stability, crystallization temperature, melting temperature, tensile strength, flexural strength, and impact resistance were evaluated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), universal testing machine, and low-velocity impact tester, respectively. The results indicated a significant improvement in the tensile strength of the PP matrix with the addition of GNPs, with the highest enhancement observed at 1.5 wt.% GNP loading, where the tensile strength reached a maximum of 40.54 MPa. This improvement was attributed to the proper interconnection, bonding, and compounding of PP with GNPs, thus leading to an increase in the load transfer efficiency. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

A contact map is a simple representation of the structure of proteins and other chain-like macromolecules. This representation is quite amenable to numerical studies of folding. We show that the number of contact maps corresponding to the possible configurations of a polypeptide chain of N amino acids, represented by (N-1)-step self avoiding walks on a lattice, grows exponentially with N for all dimensions D>1. We carry out exact enumerations in D=2 on the square and triangular lattices for walks of up to 20 steps and investigate various statistical properties of contact maps corresponding to such walks. Abstract

We have carried out extensive computer simulations of one-dimensional models related to the low noise (solid-on-solid) non-equilibrium interface of a two dimensional anchored Toom model with unbiased and biased noise. For the unbiased case the computed fluctuations of the interface in this limit provide new numerical evidence for the logarithmic correction to the subnormal L^(1/2) variance which was predicted by the dynamic renormalization group calculations on the modified Edwards-Wilkinson equation. In the biased case the simulations are in close quantitative agreement with the predictions of the Collective Variable Approximation (CVA), which gives the same L^(2/3) behavior of the variance as the KPZ equation., Comment: 15 pages revtex, 4 Postscript Figures

48. A quasi-random spanning tree model for the early river network

Abstract

We consider a model for the formation of a river network in which erosion process plays a role only at the initial stage. Once a global connectivity is achieved, no further evolution takes place. In spite of this, the network reproduces approximately most of the empirical statistical results of natural river network. It is observed that the resulting network is a spanning tree graph and therefore this process could be looked upon as a new algorithm for the generation of spanning tree graphs in which different configurations occur quasi-randomly.
