Individuals with minor ischaemic stroke and intracranial occlusion are at increased risk of poor outcomes. Intravenous thrombolysis with tenecteplase might improve outcomes in this population. We aimed to test the superiority of intravenous tenecteplase over non-thrombolytic standard of care in patients with minor ischaemic stroke and intracranial occlusion or focal perfusion abnormality.

Abstract

The demand for the high-performance automatic chicken egg incubator models is high in the small-scale poultry farm sector. There are reasons to avoid conventional incubator models and in turn gives rise to innovative machines. It was identified that the percentage of hatching is average in the existing small-scale conventional incubators. This article is about performance analysis of an innovative duct-based automatic forced air chicken egg incubator using predictive analytics. It employs multiple regression, Chi-square test, and paired t test models and analyzes the performance of an innovative incubator in which we use an artificial hatching process of 40 to 50 fertile chicken eggs and its performance is compared with conventional model of hatching. The conventional artificial model and the innovative duct model were used for the complete analysis during the incubation period of 21 days. The hatching parameters, such as incubation temperature and relative humidity, were maintained throughout the hatching process. The major issue of any existing incubator models is the hatching rate. It is resolved using the innovative duct-based model whereas the optimum incubation temperature is received by all the eggs present inside the incubator for 21 days. Automation is performed using embedded system for monitoring and control. The mathematical analysis on the hatching percentage of the two models based on the distance of the eggs placed from the heat source inside the incubator offers better results that the duct-based model is efficient in hatching healthy day-old chicks.

10. Compliance enhancing patient information leaflets-a strategy to decrease patient misadventure with oral chemotherapies.

Abstract

PURPOSE: The use of oral chemotherapies is steadily increasing. Patient preference and lower administration costs are offset by non-compliance and medication misadventure. Potential consequences include treatment inadequacy, adverse effects, re-hospitalisation and even death. The Australian Health Department mandated to improve the way that oral chemotherapies are dealt with within the health sector. One avenue explored in our pharmacy department, was to construct supplementary consumer information leaflets that contained specific techniques to improve patient compliance. METHOD(S): Following a literature review, information leaflets were constructed by clinical pharmacists for all oral chemotherapies available. These leaflets contained techniques, such as administration charts, to improve patient understanding. Once completed, the leaflets underwent review by health professionals and consumer groups. The leaflets were then distributed to patients as a supplement to current consumer information. Patients completed questionnaires to indicate whether the new leaflets had enhanced understanding and compliance. A review of the data kept by the oncology nurse practitioner was conducted to compare the number of incidents reported pre and post implementation. RESULT(S): All of the 50 patients surveyed indicated that the new leaflets had enhanced their understanding. Over 98% of the patients found that the administration chart aided compliance. Information on the treatment of common side effects was particularly helpful. There was a 90% reduction in the number of medication incidents due to non-compliance since the implementation of the leaflets. CONCLUSION(S): The creation of patient friendly medication leaflets by clinical pharmacists, has led to better patient understanding and a lower rate of medication incidents within our public hospital network. Abstract

Over the years, the changes in the agriculture industry have been inevitable, considering the need to feed the growing population. As the world population continues to grow, food security has become challenged. Resources such as arable land and freshwater have become scarce due to quick urbanization in developing countries and anthropologic activities; expanding agricultural production areas is not an option. Environmental and climatic factors such as drought, heat, and salt stresses pose serious threats to food production worldwide. Therefore, the need to utilize the remaining arable land and water effectively and efficiently and to maximize the yield to support the increasing food demand has become crucial. It is essential to develop climate-resilient crops that will outperform traditional crops under any abiotic stress conditions such as heat, drought, and salt, as well as these stresses in any combinations. This review provides a glimpse of how plant breeding in agriculture has evolved to overcome the harsh environmental conditions and what the future would be like.

Abstract

Tragulids hold a significant place in the evolutionary history of mammals since they represent the basal branch of ruminants. Only three genera of tragulids are being extant to date such as Tragulus , Hyemoschus and Moschiola . In the genus Moschiola , Sri Lankan chevrotains ( Moschiola meminna and Moschiola kathygre ) are endemic to Sri Lanka while Moschiola indica is present in India. Sri Lankan chevrotains lack information on their population structure, distribution and molecular evidence on species identification. This leads to possible threats including habitat destruction, poaching and illegal hunting and trading under different names. In this study, genomic DNA from hair follicles was isolated from M. meminna and M. kathygre and 12S rRNA mitochondrial gene was amplified using universal primers. The PCR products were sequenced and phylogenetic analysis was done on Sri Lankan chevrotains for the first time. The sequences of Sri Lankan chevrotains share 99.7% similarity as they differ only in a single InDel present in M. meminna . In silico analysis of 12S rRNA region revealed that PCR-RFLP approach can be used to differentiate the Sri Lankan chevrotains from Indian chevrotain using the restriction enzymes; Rsa I , Sca I , Hinf I and Hind III . M. kathygre and M. meminna can be differentiated from each other by using Dra I .

Abstract

Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) is a cytokine that is essential for growth and development of progenitors of granulocytes and monocytes/macrophages. In this study, we report molecular cloning, sequencing and characterization of GM-CSF from Indian water buffalo, Bubalus bubalis. In addition, we performed sequence and structural analysis for buffalo GM-CSF. Buffalo GM-CSF has been compared with 17 mammalian GM-CSFs using multiple sequence alignment and phylogenetic tree. Three-dimensional model for buffalo GM-CSF and human receptor complex was built using homology modelling to study cross-reactivity between two species.
