Suicide was the 12th leading cause of death in the United States in 2020, with an overall suicide rate of B.5 per 100,000 deaths (National Institute of Mental Health [NIMH], [...], The purpose of this phenomenological study was to understand the essence of counselors' perceived preparedness working with suicidal clients and to provide suicide prevention and assessment recommendations for the counseling profession. We identified a structural-textural description that highlights the perceived amount, quality, and components of training preparedness, as well as suicide assessment and intervention knowledge. This phenomenological investigation included 10 professional counselors who described the degree to which they felt prepared to work with suicidal clients and their perceptions of the suicide prevention and assessment training they have completed during their training program and in their agency work setting. Counselors did not generally feel that their training had been adequate and subsequently sought more through personal learning or on-the-job training. Counselors should seek out evidence-based trainings that best meet the needs of their clients.

This study analyzes the online content of suicide prevention and helps websites in the context of preventive psychiatry. The universe and sample of the research consisted of 147 web pages whose links can be found on the most widely used international social media platforms and websites dedicated to suicide prevention. To conduct the content analysis, the crisis hotline guide prepared by the World Health Organization for suicide prevention and the guide prepared for media professionals were used in the data collection form created by the researchers. The majority of the websites were of European origin and were prepared by mental health and suicide prevention associations for suicide prevention and crisis intervention. Telephone helplines were the most common means of communicating with consultants via the web page. On the basis of the research findings, suggestions were generated regarding the scope, content, and sustainability of web pages for crisis intervention and suicide prevention prepared at the national and international levels.

The purpose of this study was to understand how women with a history of intimate partner violence seek help for suicidality through an exploration of women's perspectives on the opportunities and barriers to getting help. Methods A qualitative grounded theory and photovoice study using a critical theory philosophical underpinning was used to understand women's experience seeking help for suicidality within health services. One-to-one interviews occurred with 32 women from [Area of Country], 7 of whom participated in 5 group meetings where they shared self-generated photos that reflected their experiences. Interview and photovoice meeting transcripts were analyzed with a grounded theory approach. Results Women sought to Feel Human by Enduring and Distancing, a way of managing System Entrapment or a sense of dehumanization from health care providers' invalidation. Women Endured unfair treatment to avoid bothering health care providers and Distanced from the system to protect against invalidation even if it means not having access to professional help. Patterns of Enduring System Entrapment and Distancing from the System was found to parallel ways of managing coercive control from an abusive partner, named Abuser Entrapment, and managing hopelessness related to suicidality, named Trauma Entrapment. Conclusion Trauma and violence informed interventions are discussed, including using a relational approach to understanding how the use of self, the environment, and systemic structures influences women's capacity to continue living.

Introduction Across the globe, approximately 700,000 people die by suicide each year. (1) In the USA, in 2020, there were 45,979 suicide deaths, 1.2 million attempts, and 10% of adults [...], Each year, approximately 700,000 people, including 46,000 Americans, die by suicide; however, many more people experience suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Historically, the prevention of suicide has largely been the domain of mental health professionals working within specialist mental health care settings. An issue with this approach is that many individuals who experience suicidal ideation never disclose these thoughts to a mental health professional. The nonprofessional and paraprofessional mental health movement aims to bring suicide prevention to the people who need it, rather than wait for them to seek help. The nonprofessional and paraprofessional mental health movement does so by upskilling people who are not recognized as mental health professionals but may have contact with people experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviors. In this Perspective, we argue that physical therapists are well-positioned to engage in suicide prevention. For example, physical therapists working in pain management are likely to frequently encounter clients experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Physical therapy is also viewed as a physical health profession, meaning that they may have contact with a broad range of populations at high risk of suicide who may be difficult to reach through traditional channels (eg, men from rural communities). Physical therapists will require training on howto provide crisis support, including howto link clients with appropriate mental health services. However, given the size of the physical therapist workforce globally, the impact of mobilizing the physical therapist workforce could be significant.
