11. Formation mechanism and mechanical behavior of gradient nanograin structure in directional solidified Ti3Al alloy: Atomic-scale study

Abstract

The formation mechanism of Ti3Al alloy during a directional solidification process was systemically investigated by means of molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, and its mechanical behavior was explored by comparing with its nanograined (NG), coarse-grained (CG) and gradient nanograined (GNG) counterparts. It is found that the solidified front forms equiaxed crystals first, then they transform into columnar crystals, and the GNG structure is formed finally. Noticeably, the grains will grow preferentially in the direction parallel to the solidification direction. Besides, it is also found that the directional solidified alloy with the GNG structure has higher tensile strength and better ductility than its NG and CG counterparts. The GNG structure not only suppresses strain localization and grain growth in its small grain regions, but also promotes more cross dislocations in the large grain regions, resulting in a better mechanical performance.

Abstract

Objective: We aimed to explore the geographic differences in psychological symptoms, sleep quality, and quality of life (QoL) among adult patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Methods: A unified questionnaire was developed to collect data on psychological status and QoL of IBD patients from 42 hospitals across 22 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions in China's mainland from September 2021 to May 2022. Results: A total of 2478 patients with IBD were surveyed. The proportions of patients with anxiety (28.5% vs 23.1%), depression (32.3% vs 27.8%), and poor QoL (44.8% vs 32.2%) were significantly higher in patients from the northern region compared to the southern region (all P < 0.05). In the western region, the proportions of patients with anxiety (31.9% vs 23.0%), depression (37.7% vs 26.7%), sleep disturbances (64.5% vs 58.5%), and poor QoL (44.9% vs 34.8%) were significantly higher than in the eastern and central regions (all P < 0.01). Patients from inland regions had significantly higher rates of anxiety (27.1% vs 23.3%), depression (32.5% vs 26.0%), sleep disturbance (62.0% vs 57.7%), and poor QoL (43.5% vs 29.9%) compared to those from coastal regions (all P < 0.05). In economically underdeveloped areas, the proportions of patients with depression (33.1% vs 28.5%) and poor QoL (52.0% vs 32.4%) were significantly higher than in economically (relatively) developed areas (both P < 0.05). Conclusion: There are significant geographic differences in psychological symptoms, sleep quality, and QoL among Chinese patients with IBD, which might provide valuable insights for global IBD research and clinical practice. Abstract

The experiment was conducted to study the effect of fish source fermented feed protein on the growth performance and meat quality of pigs. A total of 120 healthy and active piglets of similar age, with the same body weight of (17.8±0.2) kg, were randomly divided into four groups, with three replicates in each group and 10 pigs in each replicate. Pigs in the control group were fed a conventional full-value diet. Pigs in the experimental group 1, group 2 and group 3 during the conservation period were fed diets supplemented with 10%, 15% and 20% fish source fermented feed protein from 1 to 30 d, and fed the diets supplemented with 15%, 20% and 25% fish source fermented feed protein from 31 to 180 d, respectively. The results showed that compared with the control group, the body weight gain of the experimental groups was higher than that of the control group, and the disease occurrence of the experimental groups' pigs was significantly lower than that of the control group. The types of flavorful amino acids in the pork muscle of the group 1 were higher than those in the control group. The experiment indicates that the use of fish source fermented feed protein can effectively improve the growth performance and pork quality of pigs, and the effect of adding 15%~20% fish source fermented feed protein is better. Abstract

The sequential deposition method has achieved great success in the preparation of high-performance perovskite solar cells. Nevertheless, the crystalline phase of intermediate films which determines the quality of perovskite films and the corresponding device performance is yet to be fully understood. In this work, we show that FA1−xMAxPbI3 perovskite intermediate films prepared in ambient air are δ phase, which after annealing, present preferable orientation, higher crystallinity, longer photoluminescence carrier lifetime, and lower trap density than those obtained from α phase intermediate films. By integrating fully ambient-prepared perovskite films into planar heterojunction solar cells, a champion power conversion efficiency of 22.09% (steady-state efficiency of 21.03%) is achieved. Moreover, the unencapsulated device maintains 92.4% of its original efficiency after aging for 1200 h in ambient air (30 ± 5% relative humidity, 25 ± 5 °C, dark). Abstract

Recently developed CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, and I) perovskite quantum dots (QDs) hold great potential for various applications owing to their superior optical properties, such as tunable emissions, high quantum efficiency, and narrow linewidths. However, poor stability under ambient conditions and spontaneous ion exchange among QDs hinder their application, for example, as phosphors in white-light-emitting diodes (WLEDs). Here, a facile two-step synthesis procedure is reported for luminescent and color-tunable CsPbX3-zeolite-Y composite phosphors, where perovskite QDs are encapsulated in the porous zeolite matrix. First zeolite-Y is infused with Cs+ ions by ion exchange from an aqueous solution and then forms CsPbX3 QDs by diffusion and reaction with an organic solution of PbX2. The zeolite encapsulation reduces degradation and improves the stability of the QDs under strong illumination. A WLED is fabricated using the resulting microscale composites, with Commission Internationale de I'Eclairage (CIE) color coordinates (0.38, 0.37) and achieving 114% of National Television Standards Committee (NTSC) and 85% of the ITU-R Recommendation BT.2020 (Rec.2020) coverage.
