Abstract

The 11 system in the iron-based superconducting family has become one of the most extensively studied materials in the research of high-temperature superconductivity, due to their simple structure and rich physical properties. Many exotic properties, such as multiband electronic structure, electronic nematicity, topology and antiferromagnetic order, provide strong support for the theory of high-temperature superconductivity, and have been at the forefront of condensed matter physics in the past decade. One noteworthy aspect is that a high upper critical magnetic field, large critical current density and lower toxicity give the 11 system good application prospects. However, the research on 11 iron-based superconductors faces numerous obstacles, mainly stemming from the challenges associated with producing high-quality single crystals. Since the discovery of FeSe superconductivity in 2008, researchers have made significant progress in crystal growth, overcoming the hurdles that initially impeded their studies. Consequently, they have successfully established the complete phase diagrams of 11 iron-based superconductors, including FeSe1−xTex, FeSe1−xSx and FeTe1−xSx. In this paper, we aim to provide a comprehensive summary of the preparation methods employed for 11 iron-based single crystals over the past decade. Specifically, we will focus on hydrothermal, chemical vapor transport (CVT), self-flux and annealing methods. Additionally, we will discuss the quality, size, and superconductivity properties exhibited by single crystals obtained through different preparation methods. By exploring these aspects, we can gain a better understanding of the advantages and limitations associated with each technique. High-quality single crystals serve as invaluable tools for advancing both the theoretical understanding and practical utilization of high-temperature superconductivity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Large earthquakes frequently occurred and caused substantial damage and losses in Chinese densely populated urban areas. It is worth clarifying that the existing earthquake loss assessment tools in China do not consider its special characteristics (e.g., tectonics, geology and building inventory). In this paper, an integrated framework for earthquake loss assessment in China is proposed and a geographic information system (GIS)-based system, referred to as China Earthquake Disaster Loss Assessment System, is developed. The individual building is considered as the basic geographical unit and described in three levels (i.e., basic attributes, structural performance parameters, and functional parameters. A three-step data collection method is proposed, and the mobile GIS-based field collection tool is developed. A broad, reasonable, and upgradeable building typology is then presented for the seismic fragility assessment of building blocks. A new economic loss model and casualty model are also presented by considering the characteristics of economics and population. The proposed methodology is implemented in Baqiao District, and the estimation of economic losses and casualties under a scenario earthquake is discussed, which can provide information for urban disaster risk assessment and mitigation.

43. Mechanical design and analysis of a reconfigurable variable stiffness mechanism based on permanent magnetic springs and swing guide mechanism

Abstract

Stiffness control of an actuator is important to ensure stable contact motion and collision safety for human-robot integration tasks. The variable stiffness mechanism (VSM) is an important part of the variable stiffness actuator. We propose a novel reconfigurable rotational VSM that uses magnet springs and swing guide mechanisms in this paper. Magnet springs are used as elastic elements that are driven by the cable, and the initial stiffness of the mechanism can be regulated by adjusting the air gap distance between the magnets. The mathematical stiffness model of the VSM is developed, and the numerical calculation simulation and experiments are conducted to verify the feasibility of the proposed VSM.

Abstract

Application of industrial robots in the field of manufacturing has increased over the years due to their advantages of large workspace, good flexibility and low cost. Industrial robots are trying to replace machine tools for heavy load manufacturing, for instance, friction stir welding (FSW). However, the stiffness of industrial robots is weak which affects the manufacturing precision seriously as well as driving backlash. This paper presents a novel robotic arm with non-backlash that used for FSW process. First, the structure of the robot and how to eliminate the backlash of the robot are introduced. Secondly, a semi-analytical method based on strain energy and the equivalent stiffness of bars obtained by finite element analysis (FEA) is proposed for calculating the overall stiffness of the robot, and the effectiveness of the method is verified through the integrated FEA results. Finally, a FANUC S900iB/400 robot that used for FSW is selected as a representative of industrial robots to be compared, the stiffness of the robot presented in this paper is better than the FANUC robot, which is beneficial to improve the welding quality.
