Abstract Hard ticks are known vectors of various pathogens, including the severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus, Rickettsia spp., Coxiella burnetii, Borrelia spp., Anaplasma phagocytophilum, and Ehrlichia spp. This study aims to investigate the distribution and prevalence of tick-borne pathogens in southwestern Korea from 2019 to 2022. A total of 13,280 ticks were collected during the study period, with H. longicornis accounting for 86.1% of the collected ticks. H. flava, I. nipponensis and A. testudinarium comprised 9.4%, 3.6%, and 0.8% of the ticks, respectively. Among 983 pools tested, Rickettsia spp. (216 pools, 1.6% MIR) were the most prevalent pathogens across all tick species, with R. japonica and R. monacensis frequently detected in I. nipponensis and Haemaphysalis spp., respectively. Abstract Background This study aimed to develop and evaluate the validity and reliability of a self-management self-efficacy for premature birth prevention (SMSE-PBP) in women of childbearing age (WCA). Methods Instrument development and validation were undertaken in three phases: conceptualization, item generation and evaluation of content validity, and evaluation of construct and concurrent validity and reliability. Data were analyzed using exploratory and second-order confirmatory factor analyses, and concurrent validity was examined using Pearson’s correlation coefficients. The reliability was analyzed using omega hierarchical and Cronbach’s ⍺. Results Content validity was assessed by experts and cognitive interviews of WCA. The SMSE-PBP consists of a second-order 3-dimension and 10-factor scale with 60 items; therefore, the construct and concurrent validity of the SMSE-PBP were supported. The omega values were 0.93 for pre-pregnancy SMSE-PBP, 0.92 for pregnancy SMSE-PBP, and 0.94 for hospital SMSE-PBP. Cronbach’s ⍺ was 0.88 for pre-pregnancy SMSE-PBP, 0.96 for pregnancy SMSE-PBP, and 0.96 for hospital SMSE-PBP. Conclusions The SMSE-PBP scale is valid and reliable for WCA; it is helpful for WCA and health professionals to assess women’s SMSE-PBP and pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, or hospital SMSE-PBP. The next steps should include assessing the relationship with pregnancy health behaviors.

BackgroundPremature birth poses significant health challenges globally, impacting infants, families, and society. Despite recognition of its contributing factors, efforts to reduce its incidence have seen limited success. A notable gap exists in the awareness among women of childbearing age (WCA) regarding both the risks of premature birth and the preventative measures they can take. Research suggests that enhancing health beliefs and self-management efficacy in WCA could foster preventive health behaviors. Interactive webtoons offer an innovative, cost-effective avenue for delivering engaging, accessible health education aimed at preventing premature birth. ObjectiveThis protocol describes a randomized controlled trial to assess the effectiveness and feasibility of a novel, self-guided, web-based intervention—Pregnancy Story I Didn’t Know in Interactive Webtoon Series (PSIDK-iWebtoons)—designed to enhance self-management efficacy and promote behaviors preventing premature birth in WCA. MethodsUsing an explanatory sequential mixed methods design, this study first conducts a quantitative analysis followed by a qualitative inquiry to evaluate outcomes and feasibility. Participants are randomly assigned to 2 groups: one accessing the PSIDK-iWebtoons and the other receiving Pregnancy Story I Didn’t Know in Text-Based Information (PSIDK-Texts) over 3 weeks. We measure primary efficacy through the self-management self-efficacy scale for premature birth prevention (PBP), alongside secondary outcomes including perceptions of susceptibility, severity, benefits, and barriers based on the health belief model for PBP and PBP intention. Additional participant-reported outcomes are assessed at baseline, the postintervention time point, and the 4-week follow-up. The feasibility of the intervention is assessed after the end of the 3-week intervention period. Outcome analysis uses repeated measures ANOVA for quantitative data, while qualitative data are explored through content analysis of interviews with 30 participants. ResultsThe study received funding in June 2021 and institutional review board approval in October 2023. Both the PSIDK-iWebtoons and PSIDK-Texts interventions have been developed and pilot-tested from July to November 2023, with the main phase of quantitative data collection running from November 2023 to March 2024. Qualitative data collection commenced in February 2024 and will conclude in May 2024. Ongoing analyses include process evaluation and data interpretation. ConclusionsThis trial will lay foundational insights into the nexus of interactive web-based interventions and the improvement of knowledge and practices related to PBP among WCA. By demonstrating the efficacy and feasibility of a web-based, interactive educational tool, this study will contribute essential evidence to the discourse on accessible and scientifically robust digital platforms. Positive findings will underscore the importance of such interventions in fostering preventive health behaviors, thereby supporting community-wide efforts to mitigate the risk of premature births through informed self-management practices. BackgroundPremature birth rates have slightly increased globally, making its prevention critical for both short-term and long-term health outcomes. Various interventions have been developed in response to the multifaceted risk factors for premature birth, including internet-based programs. These programs offer accessibility and enhanced engagement; however, their overall efficacy in preventing premature births requires thorough evaluation. ObjectiveThis systematic review aims to identify the study designs and assess the effectiveness of internet-based interventions in preventing premature birth among pregnant women. MethodsA comprehensive search of the MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, and Cochrane Library databases was conducted to identify randomized trials and quasi-experimental studies evaluating internet-based interventions for premature birth prevention in pregnant women. The search was inclusive, with no restrictions based on language or geographical location, allowing for a comprehensive global perspective. The time frame for the inclusion of studies extended until February 2023. The risk of bias (RoB) in each study was independently assessed by 3 authors forming pairs, using the revised Cochrane RoB tool (RoB 2) for randomized trials, as per the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. Owing to heterogeneity in populations, measurements, and interventions, a meta-analysis was not conducted. ResultsThis review included 26 articles, comprising 12 intention-to-treat and 14 per-protocol studies. The overall RoB was high in most intention-to-treat studies and of some concern in most per-protocol studies. The target populations varied, including nonspecific pregnant women, those with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) or those at risk of GDM, individuals with anxiety or depression, and those experiencing preterm labor. Psychosocial, physiological, and wellness health outcomes were evaluated. Internet-based interventions effectively reduced stress/distress in nonspecific pregnant women but not in those experiencing preterm labor. Their effectiveness in reducing anxiety and depression varied, with inconsistent results among different groups. In women with GDM or those at risk of GDM, interventions successfully controlled fasting plasma glucose and 2-hour postprandial plasma glucose levels but did not consistently manage glycated hemoglobin levels. These interventions did not reduce the incidence of premature births across the various populations studied. The effectiveness of these internet-based interventions in addressing substance or alcohol abuse and insomnia also varied. ConclusionsInternet-based interventions show promise in improving psychosocial health and managing blood sugar to prevent premature birth, highlighting variability in effectiveness across different risk factors. Further research, including clinical trials, is vital for developing, evaluating, and disseminating effective, safe internet-based interventions. Establishing standardized measurement tools and rigorous evaluation processes is crucial for enhancing these interventions’ effectiveness and reliability in clinical practice, significantly contributing to preventing premature births and improving maternal health outcomes. Abstract Aim This study was aimed at investigating the level of patient activation, and its association with self‐care behaviours in older people with heart failure. Design Cross‐sectional secondary data analysis was conducted. Methods We included a total of 182 Korean patients with heart failure who were aged ≥65 years for a cardiovascular outpatient clinic visit. Baseline characteristics, the Patient Activation Measure (PAM), health literacy, disease knowledge and self‐care behaviours were collected via a self‐administered questionnaire. Results The proportion of patient activation at Levels 1 and 2 was 22.5% and 14.3%, respectively. Highly activated patients had a high level of health literacy, disease knowledge and self‐care behaviours. After adjusting for confounding factors, we observed that patient activation was the only statiscally significant predictor of self‐care behaviours among older people with heart failure. Healthcare professionals should help patients take active roles in their self‐care through a comprehensive needs assessment including health literacy and disease knowledge.

The bearing capacity of fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) helical screw piles is determined by the lesser of the breaking load at the bolted joint and the resistance provided by the screw tip area. In this study, compression and tensile tests were performed with the number of bolts and edge distance as variables. It showed similar strength when compared to the failure stress derived from material testing. In addition, considering load resistance performance, the optimal screw cross section was obtained through parametric analysis. Considering the structural behavior of the screw, a prediction equation was presented to design the screw cross-section as a tapered cross-section using a theoretical method. As a result of comparing the screw cross-section with the finite element analysis results, it was confirmed that the design stress and analysis stress showed an error of 1.1 MPa and were within the allowable stress of 80 MPa.

The social restriction measures implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic have impacted the pattern of occurrences of respiratory viruses. According to surveillance results in the Gwangju region of South Korea, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) did not occur during the 2020/2021 season. However, there was a delayed resurgence in the 2021/2022 season, peaking until January 2022. To analyze this, a total of 474 RSV positive samples were investigated before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Among them, 73 samples were selected for whole-genome sequencing. The incidence rate of RSV in the 2021/2022 season after COVID-19 was found to be approximately three-fold higher compared to before the pandemic, with a significant increase observed in the age group from under 2 years old to under 5 years old. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that, for RSV-A, whereas four lineages were observed before COVID-19, only the A.D.3.1 lineage was observed during the 2021/2022 season post-pandemic. Additionally, during the 2022/2023 season, the A.D.1, A.D.3, and A.D.3.1 lineages co-circulated. For RSV-B, while the B.D.4.1.1 lineage existed before COVID-19, both the B.D.4.1.1 and B.D.E.1 lineages circulated after the pandemic. Although atypical RSV occurrences were not due to new lineages, there was an increase in the frequency of mutations in the F protein of RSV after COVID-19. These findings highlight the need to continue monitoring changes in RSV occurrence patterns in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic to develop and manage strategies in response.

Abstract Genomically-informed therapy requires consideration of the functional impact of genomic alterations on protein expression and/or function. However, a substantial number of variants are of unknown significance (VUS). The MD Anderson Precision Oncology Decision Support (PODS) team developed an actionability classification scheme that categorizes VUS as either “Unknown” or “Potentially” actionable based on their location within functional domains and/or proximity to known oncogenic variants. We then compared PODS VUS actionability classification with results from a functional genomics platform consisting of mutant generation and cell viability assays. 106 (24%) of 438 VUS in 20 actionable genes were classified as oncogenic in functional assays. Variants categorized by PODS as Potentially actionable (N = 204) were more likely to be oncogenic than those categorized as Unknown (N = 230) (37% vs 13%, p = 4.08e-09). Our results demonstrate that rule-based actionability classification of VUS can identify patients more likely to have actionable variants for consideration with genomically-matched therapy.

Concrete sleepers in operation are commonly damaged by various internal and external factors, such as poor materials, manufacturing defects, poor construction, environmental factors, and repeated loads and driving characteristics of trains; these factors affect the vibration response, mode shape, and natural frequency of damaged concrete sleepers. However, current standards in South Korea require only a subjective visual inspection of concrete sleepers to determine the damage degree and necessity of repair or replacement. In this study, an impact hammer test was performed on concrete sleepers installed on the operating lines of urban railroads to assess the field applicability of the modal test method, with the results indicating that the natural frequency due to concrete sleeper damage was lower than that of the undamaged state. Furthermore, the discrepancy between the simulated and measured natural frequencies of the undamaged concrete sleeper was approximately 1.87%, validating the numerical analysis result. The natural frequency of the damaged concrete sleepers was lower than that of the undamaged concrete sleeper, and cracks in both the concrete sleeper core and the rail seat had the lowest natural frequency among all the damage categories. Therefore, the damage degrees of concrete sleepers can be quantitatively estimated using measured natural-frequency values.

This study, conducted on a group older than 60-years-of-age, sought to verify if healing garden activities control stress in older people. The experimental group performed garden activities once a week for 12 weeks, for 2 h each day, and the control group continued their daily lives. Each group’s cumulative stress at the beginning and end, along with total power (TP), the standard deviation of the normal-to-normal interval (SDNN), and the root mean square differences of successive R–R intervals (RMSSD), were measured using u-Bio MACPA, a stress index meter. The analysis showed that the experimental group had a statistically significant decrease in cumulative stress, compared to the control group; and also that TP significantly increased, compared to the control group. The SDNN and RMSSD of the experimental group increased, and decreased in the control group, but the changes were not statistically significant. The fact that cumulative stress decreased and stress evaluation indicators increased shows that daily stress can be controlled through healing garden activities. However, due to the small number of participants in the experiment, its ability to be generalized to all elderly people is subject to a number of limitations. Nevertheless, I think it is meaningful that the finding that garden activities are significant in mediating stress in the elderly was verified using a scientific measurement instrument. Future studies should explore the healing effectiveness of gardens in other age groups.

The reinforcing fibers in filament winding fiber-reinforced polymer (FFRP) are not arranged in the axial direction; thus, the members are vulnerable to bending and shear stresses. To address the limitations, this study evaluated FRP-concrete composite piles with reinforcing fiber arranged in circumferential directions. In particular, modular pultruded FRP (PFRP) members were fabricated with reinforcing fibers arranged in the axial and circumferential directions. The exterior of the fabricated PFRP members was reinforced with FFRP, and the flexural performance of these members was investigated through flexural strength tests. The results obtained from the flexural tests and flexural-stiffness prediction formula differed by approximately 0.72–1.36 times. A comparison between the results of the flexural test and flexural-strength prediction equation showed an error of approximately 1 to 10%.

Research has examined the detrimental effects of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic on health and physical fitness in adolescents; however, studies comparing these parameters before and after the COVID-19 outbreak have been scarce. Therefore, this study investigated differences in perceived health status, perceived physical fitness, and participation in physical activity among adolescents in the Republic of Korea before and after the COVID-19 outbreak. We chose a sample of data from 2102 adolescents aged 14–19, collected as part of a national survey by the Republic of Korea Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism from 2019 to 2021. We focused on five items from the survey related to health awareness and physical activity. Although perceived health status was lower in 2021 than in 2019 or 2020, there were no differences in perceived physical fitness during the three years of the study. Regular participation in physical activity was less common in 2020 than in 2019 or 2021. The proportion of adolescents reporting sufficient rest and sleep was lower in 2021 than in 2020. In addition, fewer adolescents reported eating regular meals and engaging in nutritional supplementation in 2021 than in 2019 and 2020. Rates of abstinence from alcohol and smoking cessation were higher in 2021 than in 2019 or 2020. For all three years, adolescents reported the following as the primary reasons for engaging in regular physical activity (in order): “maintenance of mental health”, “maintenance of physical health”, “help in daily life”, and “reduction of medical expenses”. In preparation for the post-COVID-19 era, these results highlight the need to prepare measures and countermeasures to promote health and physical activity among adolescents in the Republic of Korea.

Abstract Human enteroviruses (EVs) are associated with a broad spectrum of diseases. To understand EV epidemiology, we present longitudinal data reflecting changing EV prevalence patterns in South Korea. We collected 7160 specimens from patients with suspected EV infections in ten hospitals in Gwangju, Korea during 2011–2020. RNA extraction and real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction using EV-specific probes and primers were performed. EV genotyping and phylogenetic analysis were performed; EVs were detected in 3076 samples (43.0%), and the annual EV detection rate varied. EV infection rates did not differ with sex, and children aged ≤ 4 years were the most prone to EV infection; this trend did not change over time. Overall, 35 different EV types belonging to four distinctive species and rhinoviruses were identified. Although serotype distribution changed annually, the most frequently observed EVs were EV-A71 (13.1% of the cases), CVA6 (8.3%), CVB5 (7.6%), CVA16 (7.6%), CVA10 (7.5%), E18 (7.5%), E30 (7.0%), and E11 (5.0%) during 2011–2020. The predominant EV genotypes by clinical manifestation were CVB5 for aseptic meningitis; EV-A71 for hand, foot, and mouth disease cases; and CVA10 for herpangina. These results will aid the development of vaccines against EV infection and allow comprehensive disease control.

Purpose This study aimed to develop an emotive role-play program for nursing students focusing on high-risk pregnancy and analyze its effects on communication skills, clinical performance, and emotional intelligence. Methods A quasi-experimental nonequivalent comparison group design was adopted with 83 nursing students (experimental group, 45; comparison group, 38) who participated voluntarily in an extracurricular program. The preliminary survey was conducted on November 3 and November 4, 2020, and the follow-up survey was conducted on November 12, 2020, for the comparison group and on November 27, 2020, for the experimental group. A program that included five role-play scenarios related to induced labor, preeclampsia, premature rupture of membranes, preterm labor, and infertility was developed by a group of experts and presented to the experimental group over 11 total hours across 3 days. Each student participated in a role-play scenario as a patient, family member, or nurse and observed three other scenarios. The comparison group received a workbook after the follow-up evaluation. The independent t-test was performed to analyze changes in communication skills, clinical performance, and emotional intelligence. Results Communication skills (t=1.84, p=.035) and clinical performance (t=2.75, p=.004) significantly increased in the experimental group compared to the comparison group. A significant difference was not observed between the experimental and comparison groups for emotional intelligence (t=1.36, p=.088). Conclusion The emotive role-play program concerning high-risk pregnancy was effective in improving nursing students’ communication skills and clinical performance and can be used in nursing education related to high-risk pregnancy and childbirth.

Myelodysplastic neoplasm (MDS) is a heterogeneous group of myeloid neoplasms affected by germline and somatic genetic alterations. The incidence of MDS increases with age but rarely occurs at a young age. We investigated the germline and somatic genetic alterations of Korean patients with young-onset MDS (GATA2 variants and one each with PGM3 and ETV variants). We found that PGM3 deficiency, a subtype of severe immunodeficiency, predisposes patients to MDS. Somatic mutations were identified in 14 patients (45.2%), with lower rates in patients aged < 20 years (11.1%). Nine (29%) patients had U2AF1 S34F/Y mutations, and patients with U2AF1 mutations showed significantly worse progression-free survival (p < 0.001) and overall survival (p = 0.006) than those without U2AF1 mutations. A UBA1 M41T mutation that causes VEXAS syndrome was identified in a male patient. In conclusion, a germline predisposition to myeloid neoplasms occurred in ~16% of young-onset MDS patients and was largely associated with primary immunodeficiencies, including GATA2 deficiency. Furthermore, the high frequency of somatic U2AF1 mutations in patients with young-onset MDS suggests the presence of a distinct MDS subtype.

This paper investigates wind load distribution in float PV plants. Wave and wind load are dominant environmental load factors in determining design load in float PV plants. In particular, wind load is determined based on the numerical analysis results. The literature indicates that several input parameters exist, such as inlet angle and space between PV modules. An exemplary structure with ten arrays of PV modules was generated in this study. To investigate the wind load distribution in a float PV plant, the computational fluid dynamic (CFD) analysis was conducted with variables including wind direction (inlet angles) and three wind speeds (36.2, 51.7, and 70 m/s) in PV modules in the floating structure. Based on the numerical analysis, the wind load distribution of PV modules can be characterized with respect to the inlet angle and wind speed. The numerical results show that the wind loads in the central arrays are dominant.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to develop a webtoon education program on preventive self-management related to premature labor (PSM-PL) for women of childbearing age, to evaluate its effects, and to assess the usability of webtoon education for women of childbearing age. Methods The study design was a stratified randomized trial with repeated measures. The participants were Korean women of childbearing age (between the ages of 19 and 49 years), with 49 participants each. The preventive health management self-efficacy related to premature labor (PHMSE-PL) scale, the preventive self-management knowledge related to premature labor (PSMK-PL) scale, and usability of webtoon education were assessed. The intervention group read six episodes of the PSM-PL webtoon within 2 days after clicking an online link. The control group did not receive anything but was given the webtoon after the last measurement. To test the effect of the repeatedly measured variables, a generalized estimating equation model was used. Results The experimental group had statistically significantly greater increases in PHMSE-PL and PSMK-PL scores from baseline to immediately after and 2 weeks later than the control group. The average score for usability of webtoon education was high (4.52; standard deviation, 0.62) on a scale of 1–5. Conclusion This webtoon education program on PSM-PL was a feasible and acceptable program that increased self-efficacy and knowledge of preventive health management of premature labor in women of childbearing age. Future studies that adopt a webtoon format can be beneficial for childbearing women with other risk factors.

Purpose This study aimed to develop and examine the validity and reliability of a self-efficacy scale for preventive health management related to premature labor (PHMSE-PL) for women of childbearing age. Methods Instrument development and validation were undertaken in three steps: conceptualization through a literature review and in-depth interviews, item generation and evaluation of content validity, and evaluation of construct validity and reliability. The content validity, factorial structure validity, and internal consistency reliability of the PHMSE-PL were evaluated, and cognitive interviewing was undertaken. Data were analyzed using confirmatory factor analyses, Cronbach's α, and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results The content validity was assessed by experts and was strengthened through cognitive interviews with women of childbearing age. The PHMSE-PL comprised 34 items across five factors. The construct validity of the PHMSE-PL was supported. Cronbach's α for the total scale was .97 (95% CI=.96-.97). Conclusion An evaluation of the psychometric properties of the PHMSE-PL scale found it to be a valid and reliable tool for women of childbearing age. The scale appears to be useful for women of childbearing age to self-assess their preventive health management self-efficacy related to premature labor and for health professionals to evaluate and promote women's preventive health management.

BackgroundEpstein–Barr virus (EBV) quantitation and current imaging modalities are used for diagnosis and disease monitoring in Extranodal NK/T cell lymphoma (ENKTL) but have limitations. Thus, we explored the utility of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) as a diagnostic biomarker.MethodsThrough in-depth sequencing of 118 blood samples collected longitudinally at different time points from 45 patients, we examined the mutational profile of each sample, estimated its impact on the clinical outcome, and assessed its role as a biomarker in comparison with EBV DNA quantitation.ResultsThe ctDNA concentration was correlated with treatment response, stage, and EBV DNA quantitation. The detection rate of ctDNA mutation was 54.5%, with BCOR (21%) being the most commonly mutated gene in newly diagnosed patients; TP53 mutation (33%) was the most prevalent in patients that experienced a relapse. Additionally, patients in complete remission exhibited a rapid clearance of ENKTL-related somatic mutations, while relapsed patients frequently presented with persisting or emerging mutations. We detected ctDNA mutations in EBV-negative patients (50%) and mutation clearance in EBV-positive patients in remission, suggesting ctDNA genotyping as an efficient complementary monitoring method for ENKTL. Additionally, mutated DDX3X (PFS HR, 8.26) in initial samples predicted poor outcome.ConclusionOur results suggest that ctDNA analysis can be used to genotype at diagnosis and estimate the tumor burden in patients with ENKTL. Furthermore, ctDNA dynamics indicate the potential use of testing it to monitor therapeutic responses and develop new biomarkers for precision ENKTL therapy.

The non-pharmaceutical interventions implemented to prevent the spread of COVID-19 have affected the epidemiology of other respiratory viruses. In South Korea, Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) typically occurs from winter to the following spring; however, it was not detected for two years during the COVID-19 pandemic and re-emerged in the fall of 2022, which is a non-epidemic season. To examine the molecular genetic characteristics of HMPV before and after the COVID-19 pandemic, we analyzed 427 HMPV-positive samples collected in the Gwangju area from 2018 to 2022. Among these, 24 samples were subjected to whole-genome sequencing. Compared to the period before the COVID-19 pandemic, the incidence rate of HMPV in 2022 increased by 2.5-fold. Especially in the age group of 6–10 years, the incidence rate increased by more than 4.5-fold. In the phylogenetic analysis results, before the COVID-19 pandemic, the A2.2.2 lineage was predominant, while in 2022, the A2.2.1 and B2 lineage were observed. The non-pharmaceutical interventions implemented after COVID-19, such as social distancing, have reduced opportunities for exposure to HMPV, subsequently leading to decreased acquisition of immunity. As a result, HMPV occurred during non-epidemic seasons, influencing the age distribution of its occurrences.

In this study, a flexural test and residual stress evaluation using the aspect ratio (65 and 80) and steel fiber content (20, 30, and 40 kg/m3) as variables were conducted according to the EN 14651 standard to investigate the flexural toughness of concrete reinforced with high-performance arched steel fibers. The result of the flexural test show that the residual stress was 114.5% higher in the test specimen with high curvature and high content of arched steel fibers than that in the other conditions. In addition, the energy absorption capacity of arched steel fiber-reinforced concrete increased by 138.88% compared to concrete.

Concrete sleepers used in railway engineering are subject to damage, such as cracks and breakage. Damaged concrete sleepers undergo changes to their material and structural properties, including response, mode shape, and natural frequency. Therefore, we have proposed modal testing in this study to quantitatively evaluate the structural integrity of concrete sleepers. The results of modal testing were compared with those of numerical analysis and visual inspection. In addition, an impact hammer test was conducted to evaluate the structural performance of damaged concrete sleepers. The results show that natural-frequency analysis using the modal-testing technique can usefully complement visual inspection for structural performance evaluation in the field.

Due to the global public health crisis caused by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the importance of vaccine development has increased. In particular, a rapid supply of vaccines and prompt deployment of vaccination programs are essential to prevent and overcome the spread of COVID-19. As a part of the vaccine regulations, national lot release is regulated by the responsible authorities, and this process involves the assessment of the lot before a vaccine is marketed. A lot can be released for use when both summary protocol (SP) review and quality control testing are complete. Accelerated lot release is required to distribute COVID-19 vaccines in a timely manner. In order to expedite the process by simultaneously undertaking the verification of quality assessment and application for approval, it is necessary to prepare the test methods before marketing authorization. With the prolonged pandemic and controversies regarding the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine against new variants, public interest for the development of a new vaccine are increasing. Domestic developers have raised the need to establish standard guidance on the requirements for developing COVID-19 vaccine. This paper presents considerations for quality control in the manufacturing process, test items, and SP content of viral vector vaccines.

Immunocytokines, antibody-cytokine fusion proteins, have the potential to improve the therapeutic index of cytokines by delivering the cytokine to the site of localized tumor cells using antibodies. In this study, we produced a recombinant anti-programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) scFv, an antibody fragment against PD-L1 combined with a Neo2/15, which is an engineered interleukin with superior function using an E. coli expression system. We expressed the fusion protein in a soluble form and purified it, resulting in high yield and purity. The high PD-L1-binding efficiency of the fusion protein was confirmed via enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, suggesting the application of this immunocytokine as a cancer-related therapeutic agent.

Purpose This study compared infant mortality and its associated factors between Korean and immigrant women using vital statistics gathered by Statistics Korea. Methods Birth and death statistics from the period between 2009 and 2019 were extracted from the census of population dynamics data of the Microdata Integrated Service, Korea. Statistical data were derived from a complete survey and infant mortality was analyzed from mortality statistics data. Descriptive statistics were used for comparison. Results The average infant mortality rate (IMR) of Korean women was 2.7 in Koreawhich, did not change significantly between 2009 and 2019; however, the IMR of immigrant women increased significantly in 2018 to 4.2 and subsequently decreased to 2.6 in 2019. Moreover, the age of Korean and immigrant women at the time of infant death gradually increased from 31.1 years and 25.9 years in 2009 to 32.8 years and 30.9 years in 2019, respectively. The gestational age was lower for deceased infants born to immigrant women (mean, 31.04 weeks; standard deviation [SD], 6.42; median, 30.00 ) compared to those born to Korean women (mean, 31.71 weeks; SD, 6.48; median, 32.00). Immigrant women (91.7%) received slightly fewer antenatal care visits compared to Korean women (93.1%). Conclusion It is vital to devise a plan to lower the IMR of immigrant women in Korea. Moreover, it is necessary to explore the factors related to infant mortality among immigrant women within the context of Korean societal situation, culture, and home environment.

Acetic acid bacteria (AAB) form a bacterial film on the surface of alcoholic solutions and ferment ethanol to acetic acid while also producing bioactive compounds. To discover functional AAB for industrial use, we isolated and selected strains from farm-produced vinegars using a CaCO3-containing medium. The seven isolated strains belonged to Acetobacter cerevisiae and Acetobacter pasteurianus. These strains were tolerant to ethanol concentrations up to 12% (v/v). Acidification was seen for GHA 7, GYA 23, JGB 21-17, and GHA 20 strains at a growth temperature of 40 °C. The seven AAB isolates had strong antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. Antioxidant activity, as assessed using the DPPH and ABTS assays, was two- and four-fold higher than that for the negative control (1% acetic acid), respectively. We also observed 91.3% inhibition of angiotensin-converting enzyme activity for the KSO 5 strain, which was higher than that for the positive control, 0.1% captopril (76.9%). All strains showed complete inhibition of α-glucosidase, except JGB 21-17 and GHA 7, which showed 98.3% inhibition. Our work suggests the usefulness of the selected strains as seed strains for the highly efficient production of functional vinegar and illustrates the identification of useful functional characteristics on a scientific basis.

This experimental study investigates the fundamental mechanical characteristics of the carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) bars, including the tensile strength, compressive strength, shear strength, and modulus of elasticity of the CFRP bar. The properties need to be accurately determined to understand the behavior of the concrete structures reinforced with CFRP rebars. The CFRP rebar was coated with sand to enhance the adhesive strength of the concrete. Three diameters of CFRP rebar (D10, D12, and D16) were considered in accordance with ASTM provisions. A coefficient, i.e., the ratio of shear strength to tensile strength, was employed to predict the tensile strength of the CFRP rebar specimens. The test results confirm that the tensile strength of CFRP rebar is dependent on its diameter due to the shear lag effect. A coefficient in the range of 0.17 to 0.2 can be used to predict the tensile strength of CFRP rebar using shear strength.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to develop a maternal nursing competency reinforcement program for nursing students and assess the program’s effectiveness in Korea. Methods The maternal nursing competency reinforcement program was developed following the ADDIE model. This study employed an explanatory sequential mixed methods design that applied a non-blinded, randomized controlled trial with nursing students (28 experimental, 33 control) followed by open-ended interviews with a subset (n=7). Background/Aims Waldenström macroglobulinemia (WM) is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder that usually follows an indolent clinical course. However, some patients show an aggressive clinical course leading to death. We explored the risk factors predicting poor prognosis in WM patients. Methods We retrospectively analyzed 47 patients diagnosed with WM between 2000 and 2018 to explore risk factors predicting poor prognosis using various clinical and laboratory parameters and risk models including the International Prognostic Staging System for WM (IPSS-WM). Results Over a median follow-up duration of 80.4 months, 29 patients died. The main causes of death were disease progression, organ failure related to amyloidosis, and infection. The median overall survival (OS) was 55.1 months, and 14 patients, including three with amyloidosis, died within 2 years. Serum β2-microglobulin level higher than 4 mg/dL was significantly associated with poor OS. Accordingly, the IPSS-WM showed a significant association with poor prognosis compared with other risk models, and the low-risk group had better OS than intermediate- and high-risk groups. In the retrospective analysis using the results of targeted sequencing in two cases representing good and bad prognosis, different patterns of mutation profiles were observed, including mutations of MYD88, TP53, ARID1A, and JAK2 in a refractory case. Conclusions Serum β2-microglobulin could be a single biomarker strongly predictive of poor survival of WM patients, and the low-risk group of the IPSS-WM risk model including serum β2-microglobulin has better prognostic value than other risk models. Mutation analysis also might provide additional information to predict high-risk patients.

Over the past 25 years, maintenance processes for the wooden sleeper turnouts of sleeper floating tracks (known as STEDEF) have been insufficient, lacking accurate maintenance history and failure cause analyses. Currently, damaged parts are repeatedly replaced without an analysis of the cause of their failure. Therefore, it has been difficult to predict potential damages due to the lack of maintenance history data on the replaced items and the timing of the turnout component. This study proposes a turnout maintenance plan using the failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) technique to analyze the turnout maintenance history data for a period spanning 10 years. The maintenance damage type of the turnout was classified to confirm the cause of damage and the damage frequency. Additionally, components that could lower the occurrence score were selected based on a risk analysis of the turnover. Therefore, it was possible to reduce the risk occurrence score by improving the size of the turnout top plate and the number of bolts.

Urban railway sleeper floating track (STEDEF) reduces the block vibration transmitted to the subgrade structure by structurally separating the sleeper and the concrete bed, using a rubber boot and a resilient pad. Recently, the replacement of rubber boot material (SBR) after long-term wear and tear has become of utmost importance because of durability problems such as deformation, tearing, and abrasion. This study investigates rubber boots—a component of the urban railway sleeper floating track—to resolve these concerns and proposes the material and shape of a novel rubber boot. The proposed rubber boot reduces the maximum displacement and strain by more than 83% and 90%, respectively, compared with the existing rubber boots. In addition, the results of numerical analysis and indoor tests show that type 3 rubber boots can prevent displacement and stress generation in rubber boots.

This study entailed performance tests to confirm the bond performance of the proposed new repair material and the pressurization effect of the developed mechanical pressurizing equipment. The physical property changes of the new repair material were reviewed by varying the mixing ratio of high aluminate cement (HAC)-mixed mortar. Strength tests were performed according to the mixing ratios of polymer and silica fume to improve the bond performance. To improve water retention, the mixing ratios of the cellulose and nylon fibers were adjusted, and the change in water retention was measured. The proposed repair material mixing ratio yielded the best performance when pressure was applied to the repair surface. Comparing the existing repair materials and the new repair material prepared by adjusting the ratios of HAC-mixed mortar, cellulose fiber, redispersible powder resin, and other factors confirmed that the new repair material has a high bond strength.

Abstract In addition to somatic mutations, germline genetic predisposition to hematologic malignancies is currently emerging as an area attracting high research interest. In this study, we investigated genetic alterations in Korean acute lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma (ALL) patients using targeted gene panel sequencing. To this end, a gene panel consisting of 81 genes that are known to be associated with 23 predisposition syndromes was investigated. In addition to sequence variants, gene-level copy number variations (CNVs) were investigated as well. We identified 197 somatic sequence variants and 223 somatic CNVs. The IKZF1 alteration was found to have an adverse effect on overall survival (OS) and relapse-free survival (RFS) in childhood ALL. We found recurrent somatic alterations in Korean ALL patients similar to previous studies on both prevalence and prognostic impact. Six patients were found to be carriers of variants in six genes associated with primary immunodeficiency disorder (PID). Of the 81 genes associated with 23 predisposition syndromes, this study found only one predisposition germline mutation (TP53) (1.1%). Altogether, our study demonstrated a low probability of germline mutation predisposition to ALL in Korean ALL patients.

Purpose This study compared maternal age at childbirth, the number of live births, and the weight of live births between Korean women and immigrant women using statistical data from the Republic of Korea for the period of 2008-2018. Methods The analysis was conducted using data from the Microdata Integrated Service of Statistics Korea (https://mdis.kostat.go.kr/index.do). Results Korean women and immigrant women showed a higher age at childbirth in 2018 than in 2008. The percentage of newborns of Korean women with a birth weight of less than 2.5 kg increased slightly for 3 consecutive years from 2016 to 2018, whereas for immigrant women, this percentage increased in 2017 compared to 2016 and then decreased again in 2018. Very low birth weight (less than 1.5 kg) became more common among immigrant women from 2016 to 2018. Birth at a gestational age of fewer than 37 weeks increased both among Korean and immigrant women from 2016 to 2018. In both groups, the percentage of women who had their first child within their first 2 years of marriage decreased from 2008 to 2018. Conclusion Immigrant women had higher birth rates than Korean women, while both groups showed an increasing trend in preterm birth. Greater attention should be paid to the pregnancy and birth needs of immigrant women, and steps are needed to ensure health equity and access in order to prevent preterm births. It is also necessary to identify factors that affect preterm birth and birth of very low birth weight infants among immigrant women in the future.

Background Transforaminal epidural steroid injection (TFESI) is a conservative treatment for patients with lumbar disc herniation (LDH). However, there are reports of various complications that can occur after TFESI; among these, paraplegia is a serious complication. Case A 70-year-old woman who was unable to lie supine due to low back pain exacerbation during back extension underwent TFESI. After injection, there was pain relief and the patient was able to lie supine; however, paraplegia developed immediately. Magnetic resonance imaging confirmed cauda equina syndrome (CES) due to nerve compression from L1–2 LDH. We determined that the patient's LDH was already severe enough to be considered CES and that the TFESI procedure performed without an accurate understanding of the patient's condition aggravated the disease. Conclusions It is important to accurately determine the cause of pain and disease state of a patient to establish a correct treatment plan before TFESI is performed.

The two primary mechanisms by which iodinated contrast media (CM) causes contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CIAKI) are the hemodynamic effect causing intrarenal vasoconstriction and the tubular toxic effect causing acute tubular necrosis. Inhibition of 15-hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase (15-PGDH), which degrades prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), promotes tissue repair and regeneration in many organs. PGE2 causes intrarenal arterial vasodilation. In this study, we investigated whether a 15-PGDH inhibitor can act as a candidate for blocking these two major mechanisms of CIAKI. We established a CIAKI mouse model by injecting a 10 gram of iodine per body weight (gI/kg) dose of iodixanol into each mouse tail vein. A 15-PGDH inhibitor (SW033291), PGE1, or PGE2 were administered to compare the renal functional parameters, histologic injury, vasoconstriction, and renal blood flow changes. In addition, human renal proximal tubular epithelial cells were cultured in a CM-treated medium. SW033291, PGE1, or PGE2 were added to compare any changes in cell viability and apoptosis rate. Purpose This study was conducted to evaluate the construct validity, reliability, measurement invariance, and latent mean differences in the Breastfeeding Adaptation Scale-Short Form (BFAS-SF) for use with mothers at 2 weeks postpartum. Methods This methodological study was designed to evaluate the validity, reliability, and measurement invariance of from 431 breastfeeding mothers. Confirmatory factor analysis and multi-group confirmatory factor analysis were conducted to assess the factor structure and the measurement invariance across employment status, delivery mode, parity, and previous breastfeeding experience, and the latent mean differences were then examined. Results The goodness of fit of the six-factor model at 2 weeks postpartum was acceptable. Multi-group confirmatory factor analysis supported strict invariance of the BFAS-SF across employment status and delivery mode. Full configural invariance, full metric invariance, and partial scalar invariance across parity and full configural invariance and full metric invariance across previous breastfeeding experience were supported, respectively. The results for latent mean differences suggested that mothers who were employed showed significantly higher scores for breastfeeding confidence. Mothers who had a vaginal delivery showed significantly higher scores for sufficient breast milk and baby’s feeding capability. Multiparous mothers showed significantly higher scores for baby’s feeding capability and baby’s satisfaction with breastfeeding. Conclusion The validity and reliability of the BFAS-SF at 2 weeks postpartum are acceptable. It can be used to compare mean scores of breastfeeding adaptation according to employment status, delivery mode, and parity.

The increasing development of underground infrastructure has led to the deformation of subway box structures and surrounding roadbeds, eventually resulting in cracks. Therefore, it is necessary to predict damage through effective analysis and evaluation techniques. This study examined the correlation between displacement behavior and damage in a subway box structure and proposed an analysis technique to predict the damage location and scale of a structure by comparing the results from visual inspection, on-site measurement, and numerical analysis. The proposed technique can be used to compute the external boundary conditions that may induce major deformations in a subway box structure, and to predict and evaluate the members and locations where the damage may occur. In addition, we confirm that the damaged location and scale in a subway box structure can be determined, and that the maintenance of a subway box structure can be achieved by repairing and reinforcing the damaged part. Therefore, the results of this study are expected to help accurately predict damage in subway box structures, thereby contributing to better maintenance and failure prevention of underground infrastructure.

The fermentation of traditional vinegar is a spontaneous and complex process that involves interactions among various microorganisms. Here, we used a microbiome approach to determine the effects of networks, such as fermentation temperature, location, physicochemical and sensory characteristics, and bacterial profile, within traditional grain vinegar samples collected from various regions of Korea. Acetic acid and lactic acid were identified as the major metabolites of grain vinegar, and sourness and umami were determined as taste fingerprints that could distinguish between vinegar samples. Acetobacter ghanensis and Lactobacillus acetotolerans were the predominant bacterial species, and the functional composition of the microbiota revealed that the nucleotide biosynthesis pathway was the most enriched. These results reveal that vinegar samples fermented outdoors are more similar to each other than vinegar samples fermented at 30 °C, when comparing the distance matrix for comprehending bacterial networks among samples. This study may help obtain high-quality vinegar through optimized fermentation conditions by suggesting differences in sensory characteristics according to the fermentation environment.

Somatic CALR mutations occur in approximately 70% of patients with JAK2 V617F-negative essential thrombocythemia (ET) and primary myelofibrosis (PMF). We evaluated the effects of the CALR mutant type and burden on the phenotype of CALR-mutated myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN). Of the 510 patients with suspected or diagnosed MPN, all 49 patients detected with CALR mutations were diagnosed with ET (n = 32) or PMF (n = 17). The CALR mutant burden was significantly higher in PMF than in ET (45% vs. 34%), and type 1-like and type 2-like mutations were detected in 49% and 51% patients, respectively. Patients with MPN and type 2-like mutation showed a significantly higher median platelet count than those with type 1-like mutation. Particularly, patients with ET and type 2-like mutation had no thrombotic events, despite higher platelet counts. The effect of CALR mutant burden differed depending on the mutant type. A higher mutant burden tended to be associated with a cytopenic phenotype (i.e., lower hemoglobin levels and platelet counts) in patients with the type 1-like mutation and a proliferative hematological phenotype (i.e., higher platelet and neutrophil counts) in patients with the type 2-like mutation. This study suggests that the disease phenotype of MPN may be altered through CALR mutant burden and mutant type.

In this study, the material properties of the damage-vulnerable parts and the residual strain of tension clamps comprising many curved parts, such as those used in urban railroads, were tested and analyzed. The effects of decreasing the strengths of the tension clamps on performance were then assessed. The permanent deformation characteristics of the tension clamps of aged specimens (6, 11, and 16 years of service) exhibited tendencies similar to the strain-hardening characteristics of the stress–strain responses reported in previous studies. As the service period increased, plastic deformation occurred in the middle bands of the tension clamps. When used for 16 years in urban railroads, the tension clamps underwent ~10% deformation compared with their initial shapes. Furthermore, based on laboratory tests, the deterioration levels of the tension clamps according to the service period were examined as functions of Young’s modulus. Stress levels close to the yield strength occurred in the middle band of the tension clamp when the clamping force was introduced. As a results, it is possible to determine whether the clamping force confirms that decrease by using the Young’s moduli of tension clamps, and the deterioration of the function and the replacement time of tension clamps that may occur during service can be predicted.

Community mitigation measures taken owing to the COVID-19 pandemic have caused a decrease in the number of respiratory viruses, including the human parainfluenza virus type 3 (HPIV3), and a delay in their occurrence. HPIV3 was rarely detected as a consequence of monitoring respiratory viral pathogens in Gwangju, Korea, in 2020; however, it resurfaced as a delayed outbreak and peaked in September–October 2021. To understand the genetic characteristics of the reemerging virus, antigenic gene sequences and evolutionary analyses of the hemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN) and fusion (F) genes were performed for 129 HPIV3 pathogens prevalent in Gwangju from 2018 to 2021. Unlike the prevalence of various HPIV3 strains in 2018-2019, the prevalence of HPIV3 by strains with reduced diversity was confirmed in 2021. It could be inferred that this decrease in genetic diversity was due to the restriction of inflow from other regions at home and abroad following the community mitigation measures and the spread within the region. The HPIV3 that emerged in 2021 consisted of HN coding regions that were 100% consistent with the sequence identified in Saitama, Japan, in 2018, and F coding regions exhibiting 99.6% homology to a sequence identified in India in 2017, among the ranks reported to the National Center for Biotechnology Information. The emergence of a new lineage in a community can lead to a mass outbreak by collapsing the collective immunity of the existing acquired area; therefore, continuous monitoring is necessary.

We previously showed that inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) protein expression in melanoma tumor cells is associated with poor patient prognosis. Here, we analyzed the association between iNOS and the oncogenic PI3K-AKT pathway. TCGA data show that iNOS and phospho-Akt Ser473 expression were associated significantly only in the subset of tumors with genetically intact PTEN. Employing a stage III melanoma TMA, we showed that iNOS protein presence is significantly associated with shorter survival only in tumors with PTEN protein expression. These findings led to our hypothesis that the iNOS product, nitric oxide (NO), suppresses the function of PTEN and stimulates PI3K-Akt activation. Melanoma cells in response to NO exposure in vitro exhibited enhanced AKT kinase activity and substrate phosphorylation, as well as attenuated PTEN phosphatase activity. Biochemical analysis showed that NO exposure resulted in a post-translationally modified S-Nitrosylation (SNO) PTEN, which was also found in cells expressing iNOS. Our findings provide evidence that NO-rich cancers may exhibit AKT activation due to post-translational inactivation of PTEN. This unique activation of oncogenic pathway under nitrosative stress may contribute to the pathogenesis of iNOS in melanoma. Significance: Our study shows that iNOS expression is associated with increased PI3K-AKT signaling and worse clinical outcomes in melanoma patients with wt (intact) PTEN. Mutated PTEN is already inactivated. We also demonstrate that NO activates the PI3K-AKT pathway by suppressing PTEN suppressor function concurrent with the formation of PTEN-SNO. This discovery provides insight into the consequences of inflammatory NO produced in human melanoma and microenvironmental cells. It suggests that NO–driven modification provides a marker of PTEN inactivation, and represents a plausible mechanism of tumor suppressor inactivation in iNOS expressing subset of cancers.

Purpose This study sought to develop the Breastfeeding Adaptation Scale-Short Form(BFAS-SF) for use at 4 weeks postpartum, to test its validity and reliability, and to examine its measurement invariance. The latent mean score of the BFAS-SF across multiple groups was also compared. Methods This methodological research study was conducted to develop a short form of the BFAS and to test its psychometric properties and measurement invariance. Data were collected twice for measurement invariance testing. The sample included 431 and 272 breastfeeding mothers at 2 weeks and 4 weeks postpartum, respectively. Results Confirmatory factor analysis supported six dimensions of the BFAS-SF at 4 weeks postpartum. Multi-group confirmatory factor analysis revealed evidence for invariance of the BFAS-SF according to employment status, parity, delivery mode, and the postpartum period. There were statistically significant latent mean differences. Mothers who were unemployed and who had a vaginal delivery showed significantly higher scores for breastfeeding confidence, sufficient breast milk, and baby’s satisfaction with breastfeeding. Conclusion The BFAS-SF is valid, reliable, and an appropriate instrument for assessing mothers’ breastfeeding adaptation. It can be used to compare mean scores according to employment status and delivery mode.

Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a myeloproliferative neoplasm with the molecular hallmark of BCR-ABL1 chimeric transcripts from t(9;22)(q24;q22). In more than 95% of CML, the fusion occurs in the major breakpoint cluster region (M-bcr) of BCR, most commonly producing the e14a2 or e13a2 type. CML with e1a2 BCR-ABL1 by fusion in minor bcr is rare, accounting for approximately 1% of CML. CML with e1a2 BCR-ABL1 is reportedly associated with monocytosis and poor prognosis. Here we describe a woman who underwent bone marrow (BM) study with an impression of chronic myelomonocytic leukemia based on thrombocytosis and prominent monocytosis. Genetic workup revealed, however, t(9;22) and e1a2 BCR-ABL1, which indicated CML and explained her unusual monocytosis. A review of serial complete blood counts (CBC) before the BM study demonstrated that isolated monocytosis preceded the abnormalities in other parameters of CBC. The patient is on follow-up with tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI, dasatinib) medication. Close monitoring is required due to the association of e1a2 BCR-ABL1 with poor response to TKI and frequent disease progression. Unlike 2-dimensional (2D) images, direct 3-dimensional (3D) point cloud processing using deep neural network architectures is challenging, mainly due to the lack of explicit neighbor relationships. Many researchers attempt to remedy this by performing an additional voxelization preprocessing step. However, this adds additional computational overhead and introduces quantization error issues, limiting an accurate estimate of the underlying structure of objects that appear in the scene. To this end, in this article, we propose a deep network that can directly consume raw unstructured point clouds to perform object classification and part segmentation. In particular, a Deep Feature Transformation Network (DFT-Net) has been proposed, consisting of a cascading combination of edge convolutions and a feature transformation layer that captures the local geometric features by preserving neighborhood relationships among the points. The proposed network builds a graph in which the edges are dynamically and independently calculated on each layer. To achieve object classification and part segmentation, we ensure point order invariance while conducting network training simultaneously—the evaluation of the proposed network has been carried out on two standard benchmark datasets for object classification and part segmentation. The results were comparable to or better than existing state-of-the-art methodologies. The overall score obtained using the proposed DFT-Net is significantly improved compared to the state-of-the-art methods with the ModelNet40 dataset for object categorization.

This study evaluated the structural stability of subway structures based on adjacent excavations by comparing automatically measured and numerically analyzed data. The reliability of the automated measurement methodology was evaluated by first applying probability statistical analysis to the measured results and then comparing these results with the numerically analyzed results. An improvement in the calculation method evaluation system, including the method of processing and analysis of the automatically measured data of subway structures through the average value of probability density, was proposed. As a result of the field measurement and numerical analysis, the measured results of tunnel displacement and track deformation exhibited some differences. However, it was determined that the construction stage and location where the maximum values of the tunnel displacement and track deformation occurred had similarities.
