A short, efficient and general methodology for benzo[b]carbazolenaphthoquinones was developed via Pd-catalyzed C-H arylation process. This methodology was successfully applied to the synthesis of highly biologically active compound 5H–benzo[b]carbazole-6,11-diones. Additionally, one-pot synthesis of benzo[b]phenazine-6,11(5H,12H)-dione derivatives was also explored in aqueous medium.

Herein, we report an efficient synthesis of N-substituted pyrrole derivatives and their application to construct macrocyclic oxazocinone via a two-component coupling reaction followed by base mediated intramolecular cyclization. This methodology provides an easy two-step approach to constitute a library of fused pyrrolo-oxazocinone derivatives in good yields under mild reaction conditions. The present methodology offers an easy access to the synthesis of a library of fluorescent pyrole derivatives. Among them, tert-butyl 2-(2-(3-hydroxypropyl)-7-methoxy-4,5-dihydro-2H-benzo[e]isoindol-1-yl)acetate has been employed in bio-analytical imaging which shows efficient cellular internalization along with no obvious cellular toxicity.

We have reported a one-pot two-step methodology for the synthesis of highly condensed heterocycles, pyrrolo[1,2-a][1,4]benzodiazepines, by a modified Pictet–Spengler reaction under mild conditions in a short time. Our approach has a few advantages over the conventional two components synthesis as it is step and atom economic, environmentally benign and a convergent synthetic method. We have discussed here the broad substrate scope of this novel methodology.

A simple and facile approach for the synthesis of various structurally different tricyclic bent oxepine frameworks from a readily accessible precursor has been introduced. The synthesis of substituted oxepine derivative involved Pd(0)-catalyzed Heck reaction. This methodology enriches the literature for the large ring formation.

An efficient synthetic protocol of pyrroles and isoquinolines through NaN3/NH4Cl promoted intramolecular aza-annulation of formyl group with suitable alkenes or alkynes is described in high yield and regioselectivities. The metal free exo-trig and endo-dig aza-cyclisation has been extended for the synthesis of bicyclic or tricyclic pyrroles along with environment sensitive fluorescent isoquinoline derivatives. Reactions occur in excellent yields, broad scope and high tolerance of functional groups. The synthetic utility of this methodology was demonstrated in the short synthesis of the core structure of lamellarin Q.

A novel class of bridgehead nitrogen heterocycles, pyrido[1,2-a]pyrimidinium ions, has been readily synthesized by a two-step one-pot reaction in high yields (up to 93%). These ionic compounds are bench stable and moisture tolerant and have highly fluorescent properties (quantum yield up to 0.65). A characteristic bright bluish fluorescence was observed in polar solvents such as acetonitrile and fluorescent intensity gradually diminishes with decreasing the polarity of the medium, which becomes almost negligible in toluene. These compounds also show interesting bioactivity. DNA interaction, imaging, and viability experiments with human leukemic Jurkat and KG-1A cells revealed that they are potential candidates for cancer diagnosis. Tricyclic 3,4-fused dihydrofuran derivatives were also obtained via reductive cyclization of 2. The substrates 2 were obtained from β- bromovinyl aldehydes by a Pd-catalyzed Heck reaction.
