Using angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) we studied the low energy electronic structure of transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC), NiTe2, single crystal. Our ARPES data clearly show a surface Dirac point observed at a binding energy of 1.45 eV which is consistent with an earlier prediction. Thus, our results for the first time experimentally prove that NiTe2is a topological TMDC. Our ARPES data further suggest a metallic nature of NiTe2. We found that overall the electronic structure of NiTe2has similarities with the other topological TMDCs like PdTe2, PtTe2 and PtSe2.

A water quality index (WQI) is a tool which numerically summarizes the information from multiple water quality parameters into a single value and this information can be used to assess spatial and temporal variations in overall water quality. However, these indices are time and region specific and may be influenced by local factors. In the present study, water quality index has been worked out to assess the spatial and temporal variation of groundwater quality status for future planning and management of North Goa. Data of 19 groundwater samples were collected in the year 2005 during January, March and April, are used for the analysis. The Water Quality Index has been computed using four parameters viz. pH, Total Dissolved Solids, Total Hardness and Chloride. The WQI results show that the overall water quality class is ‘good’ and water is acceptable for domestic use.

The study of oxidation of organic compounds is of immense importance both from mechanistic and synthetic points of view. It has a bearing on the chemical processes of life also. Investigation of the kinetics and mechanism of redox reactions has attracted the attention of chemists world over and mechanisms of several reactions have been clearly delineated. The mechanism of a chemical reaction cannot be fully described without the determination of its rate. The kinetic study of a wide range of chemical processes is seen to be of essential importance, not only in pure research but increasingly in industrial research, development and, in some instances, in quality control and analysis as well. Kinetic methods have become an essential technique in photochemistry, enzyme chemistry, study of chemical catalysis etc.
