Rationale and Objectives Limited exposure to radiology by medical students can perpetuate negative stereotypes and hamper recruitment efforts. The purpose of this study is to understand medical students’ perceptions of radiology and how they change based on medical education and exposure. Materials and Methods A single-institution mixed-methods study included four groups of medical students with different levels of radiology exposure. All participants completed a 16-item survey regarding demographics, opinions of radiology, and perception of radiology stereotypes. Ten focus groups were administered to probe perceptions of radiology. Focus groups were coded to identify specific themes in conjunction with the survey results. Results Forty-nine participants were included. Forty-two percent of participants had positive opinions of radiology. Multiple radiology stereotypes were identified, and false stereotypes were diminished with increased radiology exposure. Opinions of the impact of artificial intelligence on radiology closely aligned with positive or negative views of the field overall. Multiple barriers to applying for a radiology residency position were identified including board scores and lack of mentorship. COVID-19 did not affect perceptions of radiology. There was broad agreement that students do not enter medical school with many preconceived notions of radiology, but that subsequent exposure was generally positive. Exposure both solidified and eliminated various stereotypes. Finally, there was general agreement that radiology is integral to the health system with broad exposure on all services. Conclusion Medical student perceptions of radiology are notably influenced by exposure and radiology programs should take active steps to engage in medical student education.

By introducing geographic social capital, this paper highlights the role of social and spatial proximity in facilitating the spatial agglomeration of the informal female labour market for glove manufacturing in Gaozhou. It examines the town-village nodes within the network, interacting with pre-existing rural conditions to display discursive uncertainty. Further, it focuses on the agency manifested by different actors within the multi-layered nodes, capturing the resources embedded in the network in the specific geographic context or milieu. The results suggest that spatial proximity promotes social proximity, but also generates spatial lock-in, which can be avoided by becoming a ‘focal actor’ or a ‘boundary spanner’. The boundary between the ‘core’ and the ‘periphery’ has become blurred. The social value of skilled workers located near the top of the network has changed. The node of village farmers at the end of the network has become increasingly important; they are perceived to be a ‘reservoir’ of labour resources. The survey results show a compound social network of establishments and workshops that mainly feature an informal network within the specific context of geographical localities. ‘Hybrid spaces’ discovered through ethnographical immersion investigation embody the spatial embeddedness of social relationships and cultural constructions in the glove manufacturing workplace, reemphasizing the importance of people as a resource in the sustainability of rural development.

Purpose: New radiotherapies in nuclear medicine have been introduced in Europe during recent years. Moreover, radiation safety of therapeutic nuclear medicine should be in line with the latest European Council Directive on Basic Safety Standards (BSSD) (2013/59/Euratom). The purpose of this study was to acquire up-to-date information on nuclear medicine treatments in Europe and on the implementation of the requirements of the BSSD in HERCA (Heads of the European Radiological protection Competent Authorities) member states. Methods: An electronic questionnaire was distributed to competent authorities of 32 HERCA member states. The questionnaire addressed 33 explicitly considered treatments including 13 different radionuclides, and for each treatment, a similar set of questions was included. Questions covered the use of treatments, hospitalization of patients and waste management related to therapeutic nuclear medicine involving other radionuclides than 131 I, justification of treatments, individual treatment planning, involvement of a medical physics expert (MPE) and radiation protection instructions related to release of the patient.Results: Responses were obtained from 20 HERCA countries. All countries used 131 I-NaI for benign thyroid diseases and thyroid ablation of adults. 223 RaCl2 (Xofigo®) for bone metastases, 177 Lusomatostatin analogues for neuroendocrine tumors and 177 Lu-PSMA for castration resistant prostate cancer (PC) and PC-metastases were used in 90%, 65% and 55% of countries respectively. Only a few countries had treatment specific criteria for hospitalization and waste management for new treatments. Requirements for justification of new therapies were in place in almost all countries. Individual treatment planning was required for all therapies in 55% and for some therapies in 28% of the responding countries. Implementation of the requirement for MPEs to be closely involved in nuclear medicine practices varied to a great extend among countries. Almost all countries answered that some radiation protection instructions existed for patients released after other than 131 I treatment, however in a very few countries had specific guidelines been developed.Conclusions: There is a wide variation in therapeutic use of nuclear medicine across Europe, but there is an increasing tendency towards these types of treatments. Furthermore, the implementation of the BSSD on the involvement of MPEs and individual treatment planning including dosimetry differs from country to country. Requirements on justification are in place.

Proof Blocks is a novel software tool which enables students to write mathematical proofs by dragging and dropping prewritten lines into the correct order, rather than writing a proof completely from scratch. We used Proof Blocks problems as exam questions for a discrete mathematics course with hundreds of students, allowing us to collect thousands of student responses to Proof Blocks problems. Using this data, we provide statistical evidence that Proof Blocks are easier than written proofs, which are typically very difficult. We also show that Proof Blocks problems provide about as much information about student knowledge as written proofs. Survey results show that students believe that the Proof Blocks user interface is easy to use, and that the questions accurately represent their ability to write proofs.

Underage marriage is something that still happens a lot in society, there are many negative impacts that arise due to underage marriage, ranging from the possibility of violence in the household to the potential for maternal and child deaths that occur too early. Marriage is ideally carried out by a partner who is physical and can be said to be an adult, thus being able to be responsible for himself and for others. Prevention of underage marriages is also closely related to the fulfillment of children's rights which should be fulfilled but their access is closed because they are considered adults and have to take care of their own household. To this problem finally issued a revision of Law No. 1 of 1974 related to the minimum marriage limit for children especially women, who were originally 16 years old to 19 years old as a form of responsibility to protect their citizens. Based on the survey results from the Janabadra University Community Service Team, village officials view this issue as one of the important issues that must be submitted by the community, the request was followed up with legal counseling related to Law no. 16 of 2019 in conjunction with Law No. 1 of 1974. The preparation stage was coordinated with the Janabadra University Community Service Team to determine the time and place, then continued with preparations to look for materials and materials to be delivered to the fish. OBJECTIVE This study examines the role of electronic learning platforms for medical knowledge acquisition in orthopedic surgery residency training. This study hypothesizes that all methods of medical knowledge acquisition will achieve similar levels of improvement in medical knowledge as measured by change in orthopedic in-training examination (OITE) percentile scores. Our secondary hypothesis is that residents will equally value all study resources for usefulness in acquisition of medical knowledge, preparation for the OITE, and preparation for surgical practice. DESIGN 9 ACGME accredited orthopedic surgery programs participated with 95% survey completion rate. Survey ranked sources of medical knowledge acquisition and study habits for OITE preparation. Survey results were compared to OITE percentile rank scores. PARTICIPANTS 386 orthopedic surgery residents SETTING 9 ACGME accredited orthopaedic surgery residency programs RESULTS 82% of participants were utilizing online learning resources (Orthobullets, ResStudy, or JBJS Clinical Classroom) as primary sources of learning. All primary resources showed a primary positive change in OITE score from 2018 to 2019. No specific primary source improved performance more than any other sources. JBJS clinical classroom rated highest for improved medical knowledge and becoming a better surgeon while journal reading was rated highest for OITE preparation. Orthopedic surgery residents’ expectation for OITE performance on the 2019 examination was a statistically significant predictor of their change (decrease, stay the same, improve) in OITE percentile scores (p CONCLUSIONS Our results showed that no specific preferred study source outperformed other sources. Significantly 82% of residents listed an online learning platform as their primary source which is a significant shift over the last decade. Further investigation into effectiveness of methodologies for electronic learning platforms in medical knowledge acquisition and in improving surgical competency is warranted.

Background The increasing prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) has some major implications on many countries to achieve universal health coverage. This study aimed to investigate the implementation of Global School-based Student Health Survey (GSHS), which is used to assess the risk factors of NCDs among children and adolescents in the eastern Mediterranean region (EMR). Methods This study was a meta-analysis and systematic literature review of 2001–2018 published studies, which were found by searching PubMed, Google Scholar, WHO, and CDC databases. In this study, the target group was students aged between 13 and 17 years old. GSHS implementation as well as risk factors of NCDs were compared across different countries. The random-effect model for meta-analysis was considered at 95% confidence interval. Result In the EMR, 19 countries have implemented GSHS at least once following the survey manual (37 surveys). Overall, 201,795 students were included in our analysis. The overall estimation prevalence rateof the overweight was 24.5% (20.6–28.8), obesity was 7.3% (5.4–9.5), insufficient physical activity was 82.4% (80.7–84.1), tobacco usage was 14.3% (10.53–18.67), and smoking was 9.6% (8.1–11.3), respectively. Among those aged 13 to 17 years old, these rates were estimated as 19.8 (13.2–27.3), 9.7 (6.2–14.0), 86.1 (84.1–87.9), 17.8 (11.8–24.7), and 11.5 (9.4–13.8), respectively. Conclusion GSHS has been widely implemented across EMR countries. Using nationally representative data, the results show that more efforts are needed to target the NCDs risk factors among adolescents in the region.

Do different degrees of cleanliness preference affect consumers' choice of daily drinking water at home? The purpose of the present paper is to test the validity of various hypotheses related to this question by analyzing the results of an online survey conducted in the Tokyo area. Cleanliness has an aspect of personal norm for normalcy of things. Preference of cleanliness can be divided into the following two types. One is orderly cleanliness and the other is aversive cleanliness. Orderly cleanliness is oriented toward the control of impure things, while aversive cleanliness is oriented toward retention of immaculacy. We demonstrate that each of these cleanliness preference is involved in the choice of drinking water in its own way. Our survey results suggest that orderly cleanliness encourages the choice of tap water filtered through water purifier, while aversive cleanliness urges the choice of bottled water. BACKGROUND: Neuromonitoring is the use of continuous measures of brain physiology to detect clinically important events in real-time. Neuromonitoring devices can be invasive or non-invasive and are typically used on patients with acute brain injury or at high risk for brain injury. The goal of this study was to characterize neuromonitoring infrastructure and practices in North American pediatric intensive care units (PICUs). METHODS: An electronic, web-based survey was distributed to 70 North American institutions participating in the Pediatric Neurocritical Care Research Group. Questions related to the clinical use of neuromonitoring devices, integrative multimodality neuromonitoring capabilities, and neuromonitoring infrastructure were included. Survey results were presented using descriptive statistics. RESULTS: The survey was completed by faculty at 74% (52 of 70) of institutions. All 52 institutions measure intracranial pressure and have electroencephalography capability, whereas 87% (45 of 52) use near-infrared spectroscopy and 40% (21/52) use transcranial Doppler. Individual patient monitoring decisions were driven by institutional protocols and collaboration between critical care, neurology, and neurosurgery attendings. Reported device utilization varied by brain injury etiology. Only 15% (eight of 52) of institutions utilized a multimodality neuromonitoring platform to integrate and synchronize data from multiple devices. A database of neuromonitoring patients was maintained at 35% (18 of 52) of institutions. Funding for neuromonitoring programs was variable with contributions from hospitals (19%, 10 of 52), private donations (12%, six of 52), and research funds (12%, six of 52), although 73% (40 of 52) have no dedicated funds. CONCLUSIONS: Neuromonitoring indications, devices, and infrastructure vary by institution in North American pediatric critical care units. Noninvasive modalities were utilized more liberally, although not uniformly, than invasive monitoring. Further studies are needed to standardize the acquisition, interpretation, and reporting of clinical neuromonitoring data, and to determine whether neuromonitoring systems impact neurological outcomes.

The International Consortium for Innovation and Quality (IQ) Physiologically Based Pharmacokinetic (PBPK) Modeling Induction Working Group (IWG) conducted a survey across participating companies around general strategies for PBPK modeling of induction, including experience with its utility to address various questions, regulatory interactions, and regulatory acceptance. The results highlight areas where PBPK modeling is used with high confidence and identifies opportunities where confidence is lower and further evaluation is needed. To enhance the survey results, the PBPK-IWG also collected case studies and analyzed recent literature examples where PBPK models were applied to predict CYP3A induction-mediated drug-drug interactions. PBPK modeling of induction has evolved and progressed significantly, proving to have great potential to accelerate drug discovery and development. With the aim of enabling optimal use for new molecular entities that are either substrates and/or inducers of CYP3A, the PBPK-IWG proposes initial workflows for PBPK application, discusses future trends, and identifies gaps that need to be addressed.

PURPOSE To generate and present survey results on important issues relevant to treatment and follow-up of localized and locally advanced, high-risk prostate cancer (PCa) focusing on developing countries. METHODS A panel of 99 PCa experts developed more than 300 survey questions of which 67 questions concern the main areas of interest of this article: treatment and follow-up of localized and locally advanced, high-risk PCa in developing countries. A larger panel of 99 international multidisciplinary cancer experts voted on these questions to create the recommendations for treatment and follow-up of localized and locally advanced, high-risk PCa in areas of limited resources discussed in this article. RESULTS The panel voted publicly but anonymously on the predefined questions. Each question was deemed consensus if 75% or more of the full panel had selected a particular answer. These answers are based on panelist opinion and not on a literature review or meta-analysis. For questions that refer to an area of limited resources, the recommendations considered cost-effectiveness as well as the possible therapies with easier and greater access. Each question had five to seven relevant answers including two nonanswers. Results were tabulated in real time. CONCLUSION The voting results and recommendations presented in this article can guide physicians managing localized and locally advanced, high-risk PCa in areas of limited resources. Individual clinical decision making should be supported by available data; however, as guidelines for treatment of localized and locally advanced, high-risk PCa in developing countries have not been defined, this article will serve as a point of reference when confronted with this disease.

During radiation therapy treatments patients may require medications to manage radiation toxicities. Since patients are assessed daily by Radiation Therapists (RTs) it would be optimal and timely for patients to receive medication prescriptions for relief of common radiation side effects from the RTs.The purpose of this study was to determine the perceptions that RTs and Radiation Oncologists (ROs) have of frontline treatment RTs prescribing medications to patients for treatment-related side effects.A qualitative and quantitative survey consisting of twenty-five questions on a five-point Likert scale, one open-ended question, and three demographic questions was designed. While the survey sought to examine the perceptions that RTs and ROs have of RTs prescribing medications, the survey also proposed eight different medications that RTs could potentially prescribe. The medications that were proposed are commonly prescribed to radiation therapy patients and included anti-emetic, topical anti-bacterial, hydrocortisone cream, topical anaesthetic, anti-diarrheal, anti-spasmodic, urinary analgesic and anti-fungal medications. After the survey was approved by the Research Ethics Board, RTs and ROs at a large, academic cancer centre were invited to complete the survey. To analyze the survey results, several statistical tests were performed separately for the RTs' surveys and the ROs' surveys. The chi-squared test was used to determine if the sample RT and RO populations were representative of the actual RT and RO populations (p0.05). Additionally, the Sign test for medians was used to analyze statistically the responses to the Likert scale questions (p0.05), while the Kruskal-Wallis test was used to compare the responses to the Likert scale questions across the demographic groups identified in the demographic questions (p0.05).The response rate was 34% (31/90) for the RT population and 42% (10/24) for the RO population. The statistical analysis of the RT population's surveys showed that the majority of the RTs shared positive perceptions towards having RTs prescribe medications, while some respondents highlighted negative perceptions in the open-ended qualitative question. The majority of the RTs agreed that RTs should prescribe five of the eight proposed medications, excluding anti-spasmodic, urinary analgesic, and anti-fungal medications. In contrast to the RTs, there was no statistically significant consensus from the ROs on RTs prescribing medications. Furthermore, the ROs had varying opinions on RTs prescribing the eight proposed medications.Although the sample size in this study was small, the results from the RT population's surveys supported RTs prescribing medications. The positive results from the RTs and the equivocal response from the ROs suggest that future research should be conducted. Additionally, a future pilot study could be implemented where RTs prescribe one or more of the five medications that were supported to prescribe by the RTs. By having RTs prescribe medications to patients in a pilot study, the effectiveness on patient care could be measured.

Objective: To assess compliance of physicians with diagnostic and management guidelines for H. pylori-associated diseases with a question-naire-based survey.Materials and methods: We conducted an anonymous voluntary online survey of 775 physicians of the following specialties: internal medicine 459 (59.2%), gastroenterology 279 (36%), and endoscopy 34 (4.4%). The respondents expressed their level of agreement with the questionnaire items as follows: 0 – I do not know, 1 – disagree, 2 – partially agree, and 3 – fully agree.Results: 613 (79.4%) of the physicians fully agreed to diagnose and treat H. pylori in patients with chronic atrophic gastritis, 602 (78.0%) in the 1 st degree relatives of gastric cancer patients, 525 (68.0%) in patients with chronic superficial gastritis, 423 (54.8%) in peptic ulcer at remission, and 336 (43.4%) in those with dyspepsia syndrome. The physicians were equally compliant with eradication therapy in the patients, for whom long term use of proton pump inhibitors (PPI) or non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) is being planned (386 (50.0%) and 397 (51.4%), respectively). Internists were less compliant with diagnosis and management of H. pylori in patients taking both PPI (χ2 = 66.525, p = 0.004) and NSAID (χ2 = 103.354, p = 0.003). Among the primary diagnostic tools for H. pylori the physicians preferred 13/14С-urease breath test (545 physicians, or 70.6%) and gastric bioptate morphology (574, or 74.4%), and among the control diagnostic methods they chose fаeces analyses (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and polymerase chain reaction). The respondents considered bismuth-enhanced standard triple therapy with clarithromycin to be the most effective regimen for the 1 st line eradication therapy (606, 78.5%). To increase the efficacy of eradication therapy, the physicians were more prone to administer esomeprazole or rabeprazole (70.6%), bismuth-based agents (79.4%), than to use rebamipid (35%), probiotics (44.9%) and/or to double PPI doses (44.2%). The respondents expressed their concerns with low patient compliance to treatment (59.4%) and limited diagnostic capabilities (49.4%).Conclusion: Physician's compliance with the guidelines on diagnosis and management of H. pylori-associated diseases is adequate and might depend on both their awareness and availability of the proposed diagnostic and therapeutic methods.

This article describes results from a survey of firefighters designed to identify conditions that contribute to heat strain in structural firefighting. Based on responses from about 3000 firefighters across the USA and Canada, the article provides invaluable information about how firefighters associate environmental conditions, work tasks and other factors with heat strain. One-half of firefighters surveyed have experienced heat stress during their service. They can wear fully deployed turnout gear for 2 h or more at the fire scene, reinforcing the importance of turnout suit breathability as a factor in heat strain. Survey results are useful in weighing the comparative value of total heat loss (THL) and evaporative heat resistance (Ref) for predicting turnout-related heat strain. Survey findings support the inclusion of a performance criterion in the National Fire Protection Association 1971 standard for firefighter personal protective equipment based on limiting Ref of turnout materials along with current THL requirement.

PurposeThe present study aims to examine how consumers evaluate the extended human brands of athlete celebrities beyond their unique brand personality associated with sports. Athlete celebrities' unique image in sports is used as a human brand, and attitude toward the athlete brand extensions is investigated when the athlete's name is included in a new non-sport brand. The concepts of brand extensions were employed to develop the ideas of human brand extensions.Design/methodology/approachIn total, 198 participants answered online survey questions before and after being informed of athlete brand extensions. Partial least squares structural equation modeling is utilized to test the hypotheses.FindingsThe survey results indicated that athlete–product fit and image transfer positively influenced attitude toward the extension. In addition, attitude toward the athlete brand extensions was significantly influenced by consumers' pre-existing attitude toward the celebrity; however, not by celebrity's expertise.Originality/valueThe research findings imply that some brand extension concepts are applicable to human brands to understand the effectiveness of athlete brand extensions for non-sport products.

Background. According to the Center for Medical Statistics of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the number of children with ophthalmic diseases has increased significantly over the last decade. The purpose of the study was to determine the awareness of teachers of secondary schools (schools, lyceums) on the problem of visual impairment among schoolchildren with the identification of their willingness to participate in preventive measures. Materials and methods. The materials of the study were the results of a sociological survey of teachers of schools and lyceums in Ukraine (a total of 6215 questionnaires were subject to analysis). We used the method of sociological research and methods of medical statistics, in particular to calculate the representativeness and reliability of the survey results. The study complied with modern European requirements for anonymity; each of the respondents was involved in the survey only after prior oral voluntary consent. The results revealed a lack of awareness of teachers in the prevention of visual impairment among schoolchildren, their willingness to participate in prevention activities and the high need for information support for modern prevention technologies. The majority of respondents supported the need to introduce regular vision testing in childhood, including in the framework of the relevant state prevention program. Conclusions. The majority of teachers (99.40 ± 0.10 %) supporting the expediency of introducing regular vision testing in children, (97.38 ± 0.20 %) support the introduction of a state prevention program to preserve vision from childhood. Based on the results of the study, promising for further research is the study of the possibility of involving teachers in preventive measures and participation in comprehensive programs for the prevention of ophthalmic pathology among students. It is also important to find effective ways of information support for educators on modern prevention technologies, risk factors for the formation of visual impairments in schoolchildren in order to prevent the formation of stigma against children with visual impairments and disorders in their environment.

The increase in population is always accompanied by an increase in the process of moving from one place to another. One of the engineering measures that can be done as an effort to regulate the displacement process is the existence of a roundabout. Pancasila Monument roundabout Jl. Diponegoro, Jepara Regency is one of the objects for conducting a performance review using vehicle survey methods, road inventory, and analysis. The survey results obtained that VLHR at the Tugu Pancasila Roundabout is quite dense with a capacity of up to 1,503.09 smp / hour from West-North, 1,890.40 from North-South, and 1,557.12 South-West. The level of service value of 0.88 is included in the service level category E, namely the traffic flow indicator is higher than the service level D with traffic volume approaching road capacity and very low speed. The driver began to feel the congestion with a short duration. The ratio of non-motorized vehicles to motorized vehicles was 0.015%, the ratio of left-turning vehicles was 19.790%, the ratio of right-turning vehicles was 29.867%, the ratio of PMI minor road vehicles was 50.342%.

El grupo de trabajo de control de calidad de sistemas de planificación de tratamientos se formó a finales de 2020 con el objetivo de actualizar las recomendaciones existentes dentro del ámbito del cálculo de haces de fotones y electrones. Una vez perfilados los objetivos del grupo, conocer la manera en la que trabajan los servicios de radiofísica al respecto en 2021 se determinó como uno de los primordiales y se decidió la elaboración de una encuesta que recogiera la práctica habitual en este ámbito y permitiera elaborar un mapa de situación a nivel nacional. Se presentan los resultados de la encuesta, contestada por el 55% de los centros españoles según la estimación realizada.

In massive open online learning courses (MOOCs) with a low instructor-student ratio, students are expected to have self-directed learning abilities. This study investigated the relationship among motivation, self-monitoring, self-management, and MOOC learners’ use of learning strategies. An online survey was embedded at the end of three MOOCs with large enrollments asking for learners’ voluntary participation in the study. The survey results from 470 participants indicated that motivation positively influenced self-monitoring, self-management, and learning strategies. In addition, self-monitoring and self-management did not affect the utilization of learning strategies. This underscores learners’ motivation and the need to encourage them to adopt appropriate learning strategies for successful learning. The results also revealed that self-monitoring positively affected self-management. The findings highlight the critical need to enhance self-monitoring skills to further promote self-management skills in MOOCs. In addition, self-monitoring and self-management did not encourage learners to use related learning strategies in this study. This study should be extended to investigate practical ways to encourage MOOC learners to adopt learning strategies.

This report details ongoing efforts to improve integration in the 2 years following implementation of the Primary Care Behavioral Health model at a general internal medicine clinic of an urban academic medical center. Efforts were informed by a modified version of the validated Level of Integration Measure, sent to all faculty and staff annually. At baseline, results indicated that the domains of systems integration, training, and integrated clinical practices had the greatest need for improvement. Over the 2 years, the authors increased availability of behavioral medicine appointments, improved depression screening processes, offered behavioral health training for providers, disseminated clinical decision support tools, and provided updates about integration progress during clinic meetings. Follow-up survey results demonstrated that physicians and staff perceived improvements in integration overall and in targeted domains. However, the main ongoing barrier to integration was insufficient behavioral health staff to meet patient demand for behavioral health services.

We discuss a two-week module on astrodynamics that uses the Hohmann transfer—a space maneuver used to travel between two planetary orbits—as a capstone assignment, unifying a variety of introductory physics topics. The module was part of a summer bridge program for incoming STEM majors at our institution with the aim of facilitating the transition to college by helping students develop computational skills, competency in physics and engineering concepts, and effective habits needed for success and persistence in STEM. The Hohmann transfer was selected because it is challenging and unfamiliar to most students, yet utilizes a variety of basic physics topics. The course culminated in designing a trip from Earth to Venus, which students simulated themselves in VPython. No prior knowledge of physics or programming was required. Thirty students who declared majors in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics completed the course in the summers of 2018 and 2019. All students were low-income, Pell-eligible, and most were first-generation college students. Over 90% of students were Black or Hispanic. This group is most at risk of leaving STEM, yet 80% of students who took this course were retained in STEM. In this paper, we present the course goals and learning objectives, details on the computational modeling of the Hohmann transfer, and student outcomes including grades, retention rates, survey results, and interview data.

Background and Purpose Currently there are no widely accepted guidelines for chimerism analysis testing in hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) patients. The objective of this review is to provide a practical guide to address key aspects of performing and utilizing chimerism testing results. In developing this guide, we conducted a survey of testing practices among laboratories that are accredited for performing engraftment monitoring/chimerism analysis by either the American Society for Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics (ASHI) and/or the European Federation of Immunogenetics (EFI). We interpreted the survey results in the light of pertinent literature as well as the experience in the laboratories of the authors. Recent developments In recent years there has been significant advances in high throughput molecular methods such as next generation sequencing (NGS) as well as growing access to these technologies in histocompatibility and immunogenetics laboratories. These methods have the potential to improve the performance of chimerism testing in terms of sensitivity, availability of informative genetic markers that distinguish donors from recipients as well as cost. Summary The results of the survey revealed a great deal of heterogeneity in chimerism testing practices among participating laboratories. The most consistent response indicated monitoring of engraftment within the first 30 days. These responses are reflective of published literature. Additional clinical indications included early detection of impending relapse as well as identification of cases of HLA-loss relapse.

This study aims to determine which rapid static observation durations would have acceptable accuracy for engineering surveys in urban environments (i.e. Metro Manila) in the time of COVID-19. Due to health concerns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Metro Manila has experienced various restrictions in mobility and time spent in public spaces in recent months. This has affected not only the lives and ways of work of the so-called front liners like nurses, doctors, and primary health care workers, but also the public at large which includes Land Surveyors. It is for this reason that this study was conducted, since a balance must be struck between the aim to get accurate engineering survey results and the health and safety of those who are conducting the measurements. Hence, the shortest possible time to conduct rapid static GNSS observation durations with acceptable results must be determined while ensuring that the conduct of the field survey would still be in compliance to the minimum health protocols (i.e. no mass gathering, maintenance of physical distancing, short time of interaction, etc.) set by the national government.For this study, rapid static observations were made at varying time intervals (i.e. 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minuntes, 1 hour, and 2 hours) at locations (i.e. open, with minimal obstructions, with significant obstructions) that would simulate archetypal situations when conducting engineering surveys in urban environments. Results were computed using fully constrained least square adjustment and results show that if all GNSS satellites are used in the computations, all time intervals would yield acceptable RMSE values, both for the horizontal (5 mm to 2 cm) and vertical (1 cm to 4 cm), for engineering surveys. However, if not all GNSS signals are available, it is best to use at least two GNSS satellite constellations (i.e. GPS-BeiDou, GPS-Glonass, Glonass-BeiDou) so that rapid static observations with acceptable accuracy can be made for as short as 5 minutes. For the “classical” accuracy standards, all rapid static observation durations yielded Order B relative precisions for the horizontal while most, except for the 30-minute duration, which yielded Third Order level results for the vertical.

Since wearing face-masks has become a modern requirement during the Corona pandemic; the responsibility of the fashion designer has become to design what fulfils the consumers' needs, modern requirements and to attract consumers to buy. Therefore, the research aims to design innovative men's pants with fixable and removable pockets to achieve functional and aesthetical performance during the Corona pandemic.The wearer of the pants can keep the face-mask safe in the pocket which can be fixed and removed easily, in addition to the possibility of sterilizing the pocket with alcohol before using it each time. The researcher has done laboratory tests for the chosen fabrics such as speed of wetness, drying speed, and fabric's resistance to bacteria; in order to reach suitable specifications that can be implemented as a lining for the fixable and removable pocket. The importance of the research is enriching the men’s apparel field with designs that has functional performance during the Corona pandemic, contributing to keep the face-mask safe while taking it off to ensure individual's sense of satisfaction and safety. The researcher created 10 innovative designs for men's pants with fixable and removable pockets. The pants were designed in response to the contemporary requirements of men based on a survey result for 160 participants of men with different age groups. The designs were evaluated using two questionnaires, one directed to specialists in the apparel field and the other to non-specialists’ men. A statistical analysis has been done using (SPSS) program to measure the acceptance level of the suggested designs. Based on the Statical analysis, the best (5) rated designs between the two questionnaires have been implemented.Through the laboratory tests, the polyamide fabric showed the best performance to be implemented as the lining of the fixable and removable pocket in the men’s trousers; As it is not wettable, it has a high drying speed and it is highly resistant to the spread of bacteria on its surface. Thus, the lining of the pocket can be sterilized with alcohol before keeping the face-mask in it. This provides protection for the face-mask when kept in this pocket and the wearer of the pants feels satisfied and safe and the functionality of the design is achieved in during the Corona pandemic. The researcher presented the implemented pants and boards for the suggested designs in an exhibition under the umbrella of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture in Zakaria Al-Kinani and the Aida Abdel Karim Art Museum.

This article describes the development and psychometric testing of a 43-item nurse residency program stakeholder evaluation. The valid and reliable survey provides nursing professional development practitioners with insight into opportunities to improve nurse residency program design and educational content. Survey results may also substantiate human and capital resources required for effective programs.

The concept of developing Smart Cities in Yogyakarta is different from the development of Smart Cities in other cities. The Smart City of Yogyakarta is under the big idea of Smart Culture, divided into two fields, namely Smart Education and Smart Tourism. This big concept was taken because Yogyakarta is very thick with its Culture and is known as an education city and tourism city. The idea of Smart Culture is expected to touch all aspects of the lives of the citizens of Yogyakarta that are inseparable from the six basic principles of developing Smart Cities. This study uses a quantitative approach. Data survey was conducted using a questionnaire to the civil servant in Yogyakarta City. The survey results will be analyzed using SmartPLS 3.0 software. The results of this study are divided into two components, namely Tangible and Intangible Culture. This Smart Culture's primary purpose is to make Tangible and Intangible Culture in Yogyakarta City survive and excel. Smart Culture in the city of Yogyakarta acts as an umbrella that underlies the development and other intelligent programs such as smart education and smart Culture. These two components are revealed to be critical projects that can be included in short and medium-term programs on smart education or smart tourism related to Culture. Other findings show that tangible Culture and intangible Culture have a significant influence on smart Culture development.

The study was conducted to assess traditional camel milk and camel milk products handling, preservation and processing, as well as utilization in Borana area. A total of 132 and 24 respondents were selected from milk producers and supplies, respectively through purposive sampling technique and interviewed on various aspects of camel milk and camel milk products using a single-visit multiple-subject diagnostic survey. Survey results revealed that the majority of camel dairying was done by women. Result showed hygienic handling of camel milk and milk products of pastoralists and agro-pastoralists was poor. Respondents reported that they preserved camel milk by washing and smoking milk vessels, keeping milk in a cold place and processing into other milk products. All most all respondents use camel milk mainly in its raw state for home consumption. Most of the respondents in the study area traditionally process camel milk into other camel milk products mainly during surplus milk production. The major product produced by respondents was fermented sour camel milk, locally named chuuchee. According to respondents lack of cooling facilities, improper collection center, lack of milk collection equipment, market milk selling shed, quick spoilage of milk due to the hot environment, seasonality of milk supply and marketing are the main constraints. Establishment of milk collection centers and introduction of small-scale milk processing plants with market linkage might help to solve camel milk hygienic handling and marketing problems in the study area.

The low level of completion of SP2DK, which has an important function in fostering and monitoring taxpayers as a mechanism to increase voluntary taxpayer compliance become the reason for this paper. The low completion of SP2DK during the pandemic is thought to have arisen not only because the economic downturn but also due to ineffective communication problems in counseling activities. Using a qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach, the study utilizes several secondary data such as education level, psychology test results, and also primary data from survey results and in-depth interviews with Account Representatives. Research seeks to identify communication problems that arise from counseling activities. The results of research that found problems related to Account Representative communication competence suggest the urgency of uniforming communication patterns in counseling activities as an effective communication guide as well as mechanism to leverage Account Representative communication competence.

A survey, developed with the Theory of Planned Behavior, was used to assess school administrators’ intention to promote adapted physical education (APE). Survey results indicated that when school administrators’ attitudes and subjective norms were favorable, the intention to promote APE was subsequently higher. The results indicate that if we expect public school administrators to promote APE in schools, they must know the importance of high-quality physical education to students with disabilities.

Background Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) has created challenges for intensivists, as high ventilatory demands and prolonged hypermetabolism make it difficult to sustain nutrition status. The purpose of this survey was to determine current practices in nutrition therapy and identify barriers to its delivery. Methods A survey about delivering nutrition therapy to critically ill patients with COVID‐19 was sent to clinicians at academic and community hospitals from September to December 2020. Results Of 440 who viewed the survey, 199 (45%) completed the questionnaire. Respondents were composed of 30%, physicians and 70% registered dietitians, with 51% representing community programs, 43% academic institutions, and 6% Veterans Affairs centers. Half (49%) had protocols for managing critically ill patients with COVID‐19, and 21% had a protocol for nutrition therapy. Although most respondents (83%) attempted to feed by the intragastric route, only 9% indicated that energy/protein needs were met. The biggest barriers to delivery of enteral nutrition (EN) involved the patients unpredictable clinical course and fear of aspiration given the lack of respiratory reserve. Intensivists were reluctant to add supplemental parenteral nutrition (PN) because of perceived lack of benefit. Conclusion The survey results would suggest that strategies for nutrition therapy based on the intragastric infusion of EN are unsuccessful in meeting the energy/protein needs of critically ill patients with COVID‐19. It is likely these barriers exist in providing nutrition to non‐Covid‐19 critically ill patients. Intensivists need protocols that optimally deliver intragastric EN, consider early postpyloric infusion, and address adding supplemental PN in a deteriorating nutrition status.

Criados para serem substitutivos aos hospitais, os Centros de Atenção Psicossocial (CAPS) destacam-se por serem dispositivos estratégicos na estruturação da Rede de Atenção Psicossocial (RAPS). O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a cobertura dos CAPS, em suas diversas modalidades, comparando 2018 com 2011, ano que marca o início da implantação da RAPS, utilizando o estado de Minas Gerais como cenário. Como fonte de dados foi utilizado o DATASUS (Departamento de Informática do SUS), do Ministério da Saúde. Além da taxa de cobertura CAPS por 100 mil habitantes, analisou-se as informações obtidas por modalidade de CAPS (I, II, III, ad, ad III e i), o que permitiu avaliar possíveis especificidades e vazios assistenciais. Os resultados da pesquisa apontam que, em 2018, a taxa de cobertura geral de CAPS no em Minas Gerais foi classificada como muito boa e apenas uma microrregião apresentou vazio assistencial. Quando avaliada por modalidade de CAPS a situação foi diferente, com outras microrregiões apresentando vazios. Espera-se que os elementos identificados neste estudo sejam úteis para os gestores do estado, subsidiando as próximas discussões sobre a RAPS e o aumento dos CAPS.

Distance education, in which one-way communication tools are used, has been used more frequently in education processes with the widespread use of the internet. However, the use of the distance education system has entered a different phase after the Covid19 outbreak. While distance education offers various opportunities and possibilities for learning and teaching processes, it also contains various risks. This study aims to determine the approaches of instructor' teaching accounting courses at associate degree, undergraduate and graduate level in general terms related to distance education and distance accounting education and the problems they face in the distance education process. In this context, the historical description method was used in the study, and a field study was conducted on the determined sample. The survey results used in the field research were analyzed using the SPSS package program. As a result of the analysis, it was tried to be interpreted different aspects of the relationship between the demographic characteristics of the participants, their tenure, their previous distance education lessons and the distance education and accounting education variables.

This study examines the effectiveness of a public service announcement (PSA) video designed based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB) in motivating people to engage in proper recycling. Based on a representative sample of New York State residents (N = 707), survey results show that all three TPB variables are significant predictors of recycling intention. The PSA video increases recycling intention through attitude, but this mediated relationship is only significant among individuals with low perceived behavioral control. In terms of practical implication, these results suggest that environmental campaigns using a video format may be particularly effective among audiences who perceive low self-efficacy in recycling. Theoretically, this moderated mediation effect suggests that future research based on the theory of planned behavior should not only examine the main effect of each predicting variable, but also assess the role of perceived behavior control as a moderating factor.

Using the results of two surveys conducted by the present authors, this paper examines translators’ and interpreters’ behaviour in the translation market and factors that influence it in (Slovak) society. In keeping with the familiar fact that not all translators are alike, we believe that empirically measurable factors enable us to observe behavioural patterns among translators and interpreters that are distinguishable along an axis of specialisation and an axis of professionalisation. The authors conducted two separate surveys involving 550 translators and interpreters – including literary translators, court translators and interpreters, translators of technical texts, audiovisual translators, institutional interpreters, and freelance translators – who worked across Slovakia’s market spectrum. In the analysis of the survey results, we found that, among other things, the level of professionalisation played a crucial role in translators’ decision-making processes within the broader social and professional context. In line with Toury’s (1995, 55) definitions of the norm, we hoped to “distinguish regularity of behaviour in recurrent situations of the same type” according to certain factors, including the degree of professionalisation and age, education, and type of translatorial activity.

Objective of the study: to study the current situation regarding the introduction of modern methods of respiratory therapy in neonatal practice in the Russian Federation, on the basis of the results of the questionnaire, and to assess the dynamics of changes from 2013 to 2021. Materials and methods of research: the article analyzes the results of the survey of neonatologists and anesthesiologistsresuscitators from 163 settlements in 81 regions of the Russian Federation on various issues of providing respiratory care to newborns for the period from January 18, 2021 to May 7, 2021. The questionnaire included 82 question. Results: 489 Russian specialists took part in the survey. More than 90% of respondents were trained in respiratory therapy, most of whom worked in level 2 medical organizations (191 doctors) and level 3a perinatal centers (192 doctors). The Covid-19 pandemic requires people to implement social distancing (activity restrictions) to anticipate the spread of Covid-19. This study aims to determine the moral development of children during the Covid-19 pandemic and to determine the role of adults in the formation of children's moral development during the pandemic. The subjects of this study amounted to 104 people who are parents or siblings who are in the same house with children in Pandemic. This study uses a quantitative approach with survey methods and data collection techniques used are questionnaires through Google Form. The survey results show that only 75% of parents or siblings of children make regulations related to social distancing, while 25% do not make regulations related to social distancing. Basically, the attitude shown by adults will have a big influence on the children moral’s reasoning about social distancing. In addition, children aged 0-5 years have not obeyed the rules made, but children aged above 5-10 years will begin to obey the rules. Meanwhile, at the age of 9 to more than 10 years, children begin to consider the purpose and consequences of social distancing rules that have been made by adults.

In 2010 a magnetometer survey was conducted off the north-eastern coast of Malta, concentrating on Mellieħa and Salina bays. The aim was to identify potential target anomalies along the shoreline, with areas of interest marked in both bays. Ground-truthing surveys conducted by divers in Mellieħa Bay in 2011 and 2012 confirmed the presence of scattered cultural remains, and allowed for the re-identification of the so-called ‘Mortar Wreck’ site, first excavated by Honor Frost in 1967. A follow-up magnetometer survey was conducted in 2014 within the context of the University of Malta underwater field school, and consequently resulted in the exclusion of Salina Bay for further survey. The 2014 survey concentrated on Mellieħa bay and sought to further positively identify or reject potential anomalies first documented in the 2010 survey. The 2014 survey results revealed the possibility of substantial target anomalies within the bay.

Model pharmacy has been adopted recently to upgrade the healthcare delivery system in Bangladesh. This study was aimed to analyze and compare the effectiveness of drug dispensing patterns, practices, and knowledge of both clients and dispensers of model pharmacies over traditional retail medicine shops. Two established methods, namely, client simulated method (CSM) and provider interview method (PIM), were employed to determine the practice differences in 90 retail medicine shops and 90 model pharmacies in and around Dhaka city. The results are represented primarily in comparison with corresponding percentages. The survey results did not fully support the findings obtained from the observations of the CSM as PIM contrasted these to some extent, and the differences are statistically significant ( p < 0.0001 ). According to CSM, the presence of A-grade pharmacists during working hours in retail medicine shops was 0%, and 63% in model pharmacies. As reported by PIM, in the retail medicine shops, 36% of clients were ignorant of visiting doctors before purchasing medicine. On the other hand, only 18% of clients could visit doctors. As per CSM, 40% of clients did not follow doctors' recommendations for completion of the full dose of antibiotics bought from retail medicine shops and 51% did not finish full antibiotic courses collected from model pharmacies. Additionally, CSM revealed that 28% of the clients administered leftover drugs following old and obsolete prescriptions of retail medicine shops and 21% of clients followed the same practices in terms of model pharmacies. The report of CSM revealed that 95% of dispensers of retail medicine shops sold medicine without prescription except over-the-counter (OTC), and in the model pharmacies, the percentage was 77%. The qualitative findings revealed substandard practices and dispensing pattern too. Model pharmacies were established to prevent aberrant medicine dispensing patterns and ensure proper medication dispensing practices and medicine intake. This research could not verify the situation that pharmacists or owners of model pharmacies were fully abiding by the guidelines set for them by the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA).

Background In the development of artificial intelligence in ophthalmology, the ophthalmic AI-related recognition issues are prominent, but there is a lack of research into people’s familiarity with and their attitudes toward ophthalmic AI. This survey aims to assess medical workers’ and other professional technicians’ familiarity with, attitudes toward, and concerns about AI in ophthalmology. Methods This is a cross-sectional study design study. An electronic questionnaire was designed through the app Questionnaire Star, and was sent to respondents through WeChat, China’s version of Facebook or WhatsApp. The participation was voluntary and anonymous. The questionnaire consisted of four parts, namely the respondents’ background, their basic understanding of AI, their attitudes toward AI, and their concerns about AI. A total of 562 respondents were counted, with 562 valid questionnaires returned. The results of the questionnaires are displayed in an Excel 2003 form. Results There were 291 medical workers and 271 other professional technicians completed the questionnaire. About 1/3 of the respondents understood AI and ophthalmic AI. The percentages of people who understood ophthalmic AI among medical workers and other professional technicians were about 42.6 % and 15.6 %, respectively. About 66.0 % of the respondents thought that AI in ophthalmology would partly replace doctors, about 59.07 % having a relatively high acceptance level of ophthalmic AI. Meanwhile, among those with AI in ophthalmology application experiences (30.6 %), above 70 % of respondents held a full acceptance attitude toward AI in ophthalmology. The respondents expressed medical ethics concerns about AI in ophthalmology. And among the respondents who understood AI in ophthalmology, almost all the people said that there was a need to increase the study of medical ethics issues in the ophthalmic AI field. Conclusions The survey results revealed that the medical workers had a higher understanding level of AI in ophthalmology than other professional technicians, making it necessary to popularize ophthalmic AI education among other professional technicians. Most of the respondents did not have any experience in ophthalmic AI but generally had a relatively high acceptance level of AI in ophthalmology, and there was a need to strengthen research into medical ethics issues.

Purpose To develop a consensus nomenclature for OCT angiography (OCTA) findings in retinal vascular diseases. Design Online survey using the Delphi Method. Participants Members of The Retina Society, the European Society of Retina Specialists, and the Japanese Retina and Vitreous Society. Methods An online questionnaire on OCTA terminology in retinal vascular diseases was sent to members of The Retina Society, the European Society of Retina Specialists, and the Japanese Retina and Vitreous Society. The respondents were divided into 2 groups (“experts” vs. “users”) according to the number of their publications in this field. The respondents who had more than 5 publications in the field of OCTA and retinal vascular diseases were considered the OCTA “experts” group. Main Outcome Measures Consensus and near consensus on OCTA nomenclature. Results The complete responses of 85 retina specialists were included in the analysis. Thirty-one were categorized as “experts.” There was a consensus in both groups that OCTA parameters such as foveal avascular zone (FAZ) parameters, areas of nonperfusion, and presence of neovascularization (NV) should be implemented in the identification and staging of diabetic retinopathy (DR) and that OCTA can be applied to differentiate between ischemic and nonischemic retinal vein occlusion (RVO). Diabetic macular ischemia (DMI) also can be assessed via OCTA. Further, there was consensus that the terminology should differ on the basis of the underlying causes of decreased vascular flow signal. There was disagreement in other areas, such as which terms should be applied to describe decreased OCTA signal from different causes, the definition of wide-field OCTA, and how to quantify DMI and area of decreased flow signal. These discrepancies form the basis for the upcoming expert Delphi rounds that aim to develop a standardized OCTA nomenclature. Conclusions Although there was agreement in some areas, significant differences were found in many areas of OCTA terminology among all respondents, but also between the expert and user groups. This indicates the need for standardization of the nomenclature among all specialists in the field of retinal vascular diseases.

When the COVID-19 pandemic struck in 2020, many schools made the decision to cancel face-to-face classes and move instruction online. To better understand how the pandemic affected science educators’ plans to conduct classroom animal dissection exercises, we conducted a nationwide survey of biology teachers (n = 2131) and asked about their experience as classes transitioned to online. Our survey revealed that 72% of biology educators had planned on having their students participate in classroom animal dissection exercises in the spring of 2020. Of those educators, 29% shifted to the use of dissection alternatives, such as web-based programs, as a result of remote learning. Our survey investigated which alternatives were most used, whether teachers were already familiar with the alternatives, how teachers identified those alternatives, and whether the educators planned to use dissection alternatives again for in-person or online learning. These survey results provide insight into biology educators’ use of dissection alternatives during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as their post-pandemic plans and may increase awareness and usage of dissection alternatives within the educational community.

BACKGROUND Acne vulgaris (acne) is a common inflammatory skin disorder prevalent among all ethnic groups. This review aimed to investigate the current literature regarding the potential benefit of over-the-counter (OTC) adjuncts (eg, moisturizers, cleansers) for acne patients focusing on Asian phenotypes. METHODS An online procedure was employed to review the role of adjunctive OTC acne treatment. A panel consisting of dermatologists with expertise in treating Asian acne patients participated in a pre-meeting survey that collected information regarding their recommendation habits for OTC products in acne patients. Recommendations on using OTC products as an adjunct for treating acne in Asians are based on the pre-meeting survey results, evidence from literature presented during a series of plenary lectures, and discussions conducted during a stepwise program of sessions. RESULTS Many topical treatments have been associated with adverse events (AEs) (eg, skin dryness, erythema, scaling, stinging, burning, pruritus). Multiple studies on topical acne treatments have found that Asians display greater sensitivity and less tolerability than Caucasians to acne treatment. Skincare as an adjunct to acne treatment may reduce dryness or irritation, particularly important in Asians with acne. CONCLUSIONS Advisors agreed that cleansers and moisturizers should be considered for their beneficial adjunctive role in the armamentarium of acne treatment and maintenance strategies. Existing literature examining youth-police relations has consistently found that willingness to engage with the police is directly influenced by youth attitudes toward the police. Research findings suggest that increasing positive attitudes toward the police among adolescent populations will result in a subsequent increase in behaviours supportive of the police and law enforcement. The current study was a mixed-method evaluation (including survey data and qualitative interviews) of a community policing pilot program designed to increase positive contact between at-risk youth and police officers. The program was effective in positively changing youth attitudes toward the police. Interview results provide evidence of a direct mechanism for increasing trust and cooperation with the police. Survey results indicate that positive contact with the police can shift general attitudes toward the police and reduce perceptions of police discrimination. Further, survey findings support the program as a remedial intervention for youth with previous negative police contact.

Higher education is today characterised by increasing student groups and high pressure on teaching staff. In these circumstances, it may be difficult to provide appropriate scaffolding of activities that many students find challenging, for example, academic and discipline-specific writing. It may also be difficult to align such support with principles associated with effective learning. In this paper, we present the design of the bachelor thesis writing support for students at a university of technology. The support is delivered by a communication division and reaches approximately 900 students each year. The paper describes the principles guiding the design and use results from a student survey to illuminate the challenges and affordances of the approach. The survey results show that students appreciate the module and its focus on dialogic feedback, student engagement and student activity. Our results also show that one of the challenges for some students is to negotiate advice from multiple sources, primarily content supervisors and writing staff. Despite such challenges, the design is an example of a sustainable, large-scale writing module based on research on feedback and learning.
