Abstract Recently, new advancements in technologies have promoted the classification of brain tumors at the early stages to reduce mortality and disease severity. Hence, there is a need for an automatic classification model to automatically segment and classify the tumor regions, which supports researchers and medical practitioners without the need for any expert knowledge. Thus, this research proposes a novel framework called the scatter sharp optimization-based correlation-driven deep CNN model (SSO-CCNN) for classifying brain tumors. The implication of this research is based on the growth of the optimized correlation-enabled deep model, which classifies the tumors using the optimized segments acquired through the developed sampled progressively growing generative adversarial networks (sampled PGGANs). The hyperparameter training is initiated through the designed SSO optimization that is developed by combining the features of the global and local searching phase of flower pollination optimization as well as the adaptive automatic solution convergence of sunflower optimization for precise consequences. The recorded accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of the SSO-CCNN classification scheme are 97.41%, 97.89%, and 96.93%, respectively, using the brain tumor dataset. In addition, the execution latency was found to be 1.6 s. Thus, the proposed framework can be beneficial to medical experts in tracking and assessing symptoms of brain tumors reliably.

Objective The modern era of cognitive intelligence in clinical space has led to the rise of ‘Medical Cognitive Virtual Agents’ (MCVAs) which are labeled as intelligent virtual assistants interacting with users in a context-sensitive and ambient manner. They aim to augment users' cognitive capabilities thereby helping both patients and medical experts in providing personalized healthcare like remote health tracking, emergency healthcare and robotic diagnosis of critical illness, among others. The objective of this study is to explore the technical aspects of MCVA and their relevance in modern healthcare. Methods In this study, a comprehensive and interpretable analysis of MCVAs are presented and their impacts are discussed. A novel system framework prototype based on artificial intelligence for MCVA is presented. Architectural workflow of potential applications of functionalities of MCVAs are detailed. A novel MCVA relevance survey analysis was undertaken during March-April 2023 at Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India to understand the current position of MCVA in society. Results Outcome of the survey delivered constructive results. Majority of people associated with healthcare showed their inclination towards MCVA. The curiosity for MCVA in Urban zone was more than in rural areas. Also, elderly citizens preferred using MCVA more as compared to youths. Medical decision support emerged as the most preferred application of MCVA. Conclusion The article established and validated the relevance of MCVA in modern healthcare. The study showed that MCVA is likely to grow in future and can prove to be an effective assistance to medical experts in coming days.

This paper introduces a mobile cloud-based predictive model for assisting Parkinson's disease (PD) patients. PD, a chronic neurodegenerative disorder, impairs motor functions and daily tasks due to the degeneration of dopamine-producing neurons in the brain. The model utilizes smartphones to aid patients in collecting voice samples, which are then sent to a cloud service for storage and processing. A hybrid deep learning model, trained using the UCI Parkinson's Telemonitoring Voice dataset, analyzes this data to estimate the severity of PD symptoms. The model's performance is noteworthy, with accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity metrics of 96.2 %, 94.15 %, and 96.15 %, respectively. Additionally, it boasts a rapid response time of just 13 s. Results are delivered to users via smartphone alert notifications, coupled with a knowledge base feature that educates them about PD. This system provides reliable home-based assessment and monitoring of PD and enables prompt medical intervention, significantly enhancing the quality of life for patients with Parkinson's disease.

Today, there is a visible reduction in productivity of common crops like rice and wheat in agricultural sector. At the same time, millet crops have emerged as an alternative to counter global food security issues because of their adaptability and nutritional value that can combat malnutrition. Also, because of its low moisture requirement and tolerance to extreme climatic conditions, it is perceived as a stable cereal. But its cultivation is affected by diseases like rust and blast, thereby causing harm to the farming economy. Conventional operational methods of disease detection require regular manual intervention which are also costly. The correctness of expert suggestions is also under scrutiny. Thus, a sustainable, robust and low cost modern approach for millet crop monitoring and disease detection is required. This research aims to develop a smart and sustainable framework by integrating Internet of things (IoT) and deep learning (DL). In the presented framework, a sensory module based automated crop health data gathering system with an improved deep learning-assisted intelligent disease recognition model is developed for the millet crop. Sensors collect data from millet farmland transfer the crop data readings to the cloud server for storage and Raspberry Pi for further detection. Any abnormality in reading leads to an alert notification communicated to the farmer. A hybrid predictive model, Customized Convolutional neural network (Customized-CNN) model works with the Raspberry Pi to predict the presence of blast and rust disease symptoms in millet. The proposed sustainable model is implemented, and it generates productive outcomes. The recorded accuracy, precision, recall, and f-score values with the customized CNN model were 98.8%, 98.2%, 97.4%, and 97.7%, respectively. The training and testing delays were only 67 s and 88 s, respectively. A sample of yearly sensor readings was generated to show the accuracy and reliability of the model’s data collection. Also, the model proved to be scalable, as it gave noteworthy performance with diverse crops. The evaluation shows the reliability of the model, and it can be used by farming societies to enhance millet cereal yield in a cost-effective way.

Brain tumor detection in the initial stage is becoming an intricate task for clinicians worldwide. The diagnosis of brain tumor patients is rigorous in the later stages, which is a serious concern. Although there are related pragmatic clinical tools and multiple models based on machine learning (ML) for the effective diagnosis of patients, these models still provide less accuracy and take immense time for patient screening during the diagnosis process. Hence, there is still a need to develop a more precise model for more accurate screening of patients to detect brain tumors in the beginning stages and aid clinicians in diagnosis, making the brain tumor assessment more reliable. In this research, a performance analysis of the impact of different generative adversarial networks (GAN) on the early detection of brain tumors is presented. Based on it, a novel hybrid enhanced predictive convolution neural network (CNN) model using a hybrid GAN ensemble is proposed. Brain tumor image data is augmented using a GAN ensemble, which is fed for classification using a hybrid modulated CNN technique. The outcome is generated through a soft voting approach where the final prediction is based on the GAN, which computes the highest value for different performance metrics. This analysis demonstrated that evaluation with a progressive-growing generative adversarial network (PGGAN) architecture produced the best result. In the analysis, PGGAN outperformed others, computing the accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and negative predictive value (NPV) to be 98.85, 98.45%, 97.2%, 98.11%, and 98.09%, respectively. Additionally, a very low latency of 3.4 s is determined with PGGAN. The PGGAN model enhanced the overall performance of the identification of brain cell tissues in real time. Therefore, it may be inferred to suggest that brain tumor detection in patients using PGGAN augmentation with the proposed modulated CNN technique generates the optimum performance using the soft voting approach.

Collaborative modelling of the Internet of Things (IoT) with Artificial Intelligence (AI) has merged into the Intelligence of Things concept. This recent trend enables sensors to track required parameters and store accumulated data in cloud storage, which can be further utilized by AI based predictive models for automatic decision making. In a smart and sustainable environment, effective waste management is a concern. Poor regulation of waste in surrounding areas leads to rapid spread of contagious disease risks. Traditional waste object management requires more working staff, increases effort, consumes time and is relatively ineffective. In this research, an Intelligence of Things Enabled Smart Waste Management (IoT-SWM) model with predictive capabilities is developed. Here, local sinks (LS) are deployed in specified locations. At every instant, the current status of smart bins in each LS is notified to users to determine the priority level of LS to be emptied. Based on aggregated sensor values for the three smart bins, LS weight and poison gas value, the priority order of emptying LS is computed, and decision is made whether to notify the users with an alert message or not. It also helps in predicting the LS, which is likely to be filled up at a faster rate based on assigned timestamp. This model is implemented in real time with many LS and it was observed that bins, which were close to more crowded sites filled up faster compared to sparse populated areas. Random forest algorithm was used to predict whether an alert notification is to be sent or not. An average mean of 95.8% accuracy was noted while using 60 decision trees in random forest algorithm. The average mean execution latency recorded for training and testing sets is 13.06 sec and 14.39 sec respectively. Observed accuracy rate, precision, recall and f1-score parameters were 95.8%, 96.5%, 98.5% and 97.2% respectively. Model buildup and the validation time computed were 3.26 sec and 4.25 sec respectively. It is also noted that at a threshold value of 0.93 in LS level, the maximum accuracy rate reached was 95.8%. Thus, based on the prediction of random forest approach, a decision to notify the users is taken. Obtained outcome indicates that the waste level can be efficiently determined, and the overflow of dustbins can be easily checked in time.

Human emotions affect psychological health to a great level. Positive emotions relate to health improvement; whereas negative emotions may aggravate psychological disorders such as anxiety, stress, and depression. Although there exist several computational methods to predict psychological disorders, most of them provide a black-box view of uncertainty. This research involves developing a novel predictive model for multi class psychological risk recognition with an accurate explainable interface. Standard questionnaires are utilized as data set and a new approach called a Q-Prioritization is employed to drop insignificant questions from the data set. Moreover, a novel balanced decision tree method based on repetitive oversampling is applied for the training and testing of the model. Predictive nature along with its contributing factors are interpreted with three techniques such as permuted feature importance, contrastive explanation, and counterfactual method, which together form a reasoning engine. The prediction outcome generated an impressive performance with an aggregated accuracy of 98.25%. The mean precision, recall, and F-score metric recorded were 0.98, 0.977, and 0.979, respectively. Also, it was noted that without applying Q-Prioritization, the accuracy significantly drops to 90.25%. The error rate observed with our model was only 0.026. The proposed multi-level psychological disorder predictive model can successfully serve as an assistive deployment for medical experts in the effective treatment of mental health.

Recently, laryngeal cancer cases have increased drastically across the globe. Accurate treatment for laryngeal cancer is intricate, especially in the later stages. This type of cancer is an intricate malignancy inside the head and neck area of patients. In recent years, diverse diagnosis approaches and tools have been developed by researchers for helping clinical experts to identify laryngeal cancer effectively. However, these existing tools and approaches have diverse issues related to performance constraints such as lower accuracy in the identification of laryngeal cancer in the initial stage, more computational complexity, and large time consumption in patient screening. In this paper, the authors present a novel and enhanced deep-learning-based Mask R-CNN model for the identification of laryngeal cancer and its related symptoms by utilizing diverse image datasets and CT images in real time. Furthermore, our suggested model is capable of capturing and detecting minor malignancies of the larynx portion in a significant and faster manner in the real-time screening of patients, and it saves time for the clinicians, allowing for more patient screening every day. The outcome of the suggested model is enhanced and pragmatic and obtained an accuracy of 98.99%, precision of 98.99%, F1 score of 97.99%, and recall of 96.79% on the ImageNet dataset. Several studies have been performed in recent years on laryngeal cancer detection by using diverse approaches from researchers. For the future, there are vigorous opportunities for further research to investigate new approaches for laryngeal cancer detection by utilizing diverse and large dataset images.

In the past few years, classification has undergone some major evolution. With a constant surge of the amount of data gathered from different sources, efficient processing and analysis of data is becoming difficult. Due to the uneven distribution of data among classes, data classification with machine-learning techniques has become more tedious. While most algorithms focus on major data samples, they ignore the minor class data. Thus, the data-skewing issue is one of the critical problems that need attention of researchers. The paper stresses upon data preprocessing using sampling techniques to overcome the data-skewing problem. Here, three different sampling techniques such as Resampling, SpreadSubSampling, and SMOTE are implemented to reduce this uneven data distribution issue and classified with the K-nearest neighbor algorithm. The performance of classification is evaluated with various performance metrics to determine the efficiency of classification.

Energy consumption is a crucial domain in energy system management. Recently, it was observed that there has been a rapid rise in the consumption of energy throughout the world. Thus, almost every nation devises its strategies and models to limit energy usage in various areas, ranging from large buildings to industrial firms and vehicles. With technological advancements, computational intelligence models have been successfully contributing to the prediction of the consumption of energy. Machine learning and deep learning-based models enhance the precision and robustness compared to traditional approaches, making it more reliable. This article performs a review analysis of the various computational intelligence approaches currently being utilized to predict energy consumption. An extensive survey procedure is conducted and presented in this study, and relevant works are discussed. Different criteria are considered during the aggregation of the relevant studies relating to the work. The author’s perspective, future trends and various novel approaches are also presented as a part of the discussion. This article thereby lays a foundation stone for further research works to be undertaken for energy prediction.

There is a consistent rise in chronic diseases worldwide. These diseases decrease immunity and the quality of daily life. The treatment of these disorders is a challenging task for medical professionals. Dimensionality reduction techniques make it possible to handle big data samples, providing decision support in relation to chronic diseases. These datasets contain a series of symptoms that are used in disease prediction. The presence of redundant and irrelevant symptoms in the datasets should be identified and removed using feature selection techniques to improve classification accuracy. Therefore, the main contribution of this paper is a comparative analysis of the impact of wrapper and filter selection methods on classification performance. The filter methods that have been considered include the Correlation Feature Selection (CFS) method, the Information Gain (IG) method and the Chi-Square (CS) method. The wrapper methods that have been considered include the Best First Search (BFS) method, the Linear Forward Selection (LFS) method and the Greedy Step Wise Search (GSS) method. A Decision Tree algorithm has been used as a classifier for this analysis and is implemented through the WEKA tool. An attribute significance analysis has been performed on the diabetes, breast cancer and heart disease datasets used in the study. It was observed that the CFS method outperformed other filter methods concerning the accuracy rate and execution time. The accuracy rate using the CFS method on the datasets for heart disease, diabetes, breast cancer was 93.8%, 89.5% and 96.8% respectively. Moreover, latency delays of 1.08 s, 1.02 s and 1.01 s were noted using the same method for the respective datasets. Among wrapper methods, BFS’ performance was impressive in comparison to other methods. Maximum accuracy of 94.7%, 95.8% and 96.8% were achieved on the datasets for heart disease, diabetes and breast cancer respectively. Latency delays of 1.42 s, 1.44 s and 132 s were recorded using the same method for the respective datasets. On the basis of the obtained result, a new hybrid Attribute Evaluator method has been proposed which effectively integrates enhanced K-Means clustering with the CFS filter method and the BFS wrapper method. Furthermore, the hybrid method was evaluated with an improved decision tree classifier. The improved decision tree classifier combined clustering with classification. It was validated on 14 different chronic disease datasets and its performance was recorded. A very optimal and consistent classification performance was observed. The mean values for accuracy, specificity, sensitivity and f-score metrics were 96.7%, 96.5%, 95.6% and 96.2% respectively.

Disease diagnosis is a critical task which needs to be done with extreme precision. In recent times, medical data mining is gaining popularity in complex healthcare problems based disease datasets. Unstructured healthcare data constitutes irrelevant information which can affect the prediction ability of classifiers. Therefore, an effective attribute optimization technique must be used to eliminate the less relevant data and optimize the dataset for enhanced accuracy. Type 2 Diabetes, also called Pima Indian Diabetes, affects millions of people around the world. Optimization techniques can be applied to generate a reliable dataset constituting of symptoms that can be useful for more accurate diagnosis of diabetes. This study presents the implementation of a new hybrid attribute optimization algorithm called Enhanced and Adaptive Genetic Algorithm (EAGA) to get an optimized symptoms dataset. Based on readings of symptoms in the optimized dataset obtained, a possible occurrence of diabetes is forecasted. EAGA model is further used with Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) to determine the presence or absence of type 2 diabetes in patients based on the symptoms detected. The proposed classification approach was named as Enhanced and Adaptive-Genetic Algorithm-Multilayer Perceptron (EAGA-MLP). It is also implemented on seven different disease datasets to assess its impact and effectiveness. Performance of the proposed model was validated against some vital performance metrics. The results show a maximum accuracy rate of 97.76% and 1.12 s of execution time. Furthermore, the proposed model presents an F-Score value of 86.8% and a precision of 80.2%. The method is compared with many existing studies and it was observed that the classification accuracy of the proposed Enhanced and Adaptive-Genetic Algorithm-Multilayer Perceptron (EAGA-MLP) model clearly outperformed all other previous classification models. Its performance was also tested with seven other disease datasets. The mean accuracy, precision, recall and f-score obtained was 94.7%, 91%, 89.8% and 90.4%, respectively. Thus, the proposed model can assist medical experts in accurately determining risk factors of type 2 diabetes and thereby help in accurately classifying the presence of type 2 diabetes in patients. Consequently, it can be used to support healthcare experts in the diagnosis of patients affected by diabetes.
