Study Design: Retrospective cohort study. Purpose: This study aimed to explore the morphometry of the Thai lumbar vertebrae. Overview of Literature: The cortical bone trajectory (CBT) is a novel approach for vertebral screw fixation aimed at addressing spinal instability associated with spinal disorders. The morphometry of the lumbar vertebrae is crucial in tailoring screw design for each CBT application, given the significant variations in optimal screw sizes, lengths, and angles among populations. Methods: A total of 300 dried lumbar columns were used to measure the pedicle height (PH) and width (PW), length for cortical bone trajectory (LCT), cephalad screw angle (CSA), axial cortical bone trajectory angle (ACA), and possible cortical zones for the CBT. Results: The following average values were calculated: PH in L1, 15.09±1.44 mm; PW in L5, 16.96±2.42 mm; LCT in L3, 35.75±2.61 mm; CSA in L1, 20.85°±2.30°; and ACA in L5, 21.83°±2.49°. Women generally had shorter PH and PW than men, with significant differences across lumbar levels. The LCT was significantly shorter in women and was notably different between the left and right sides. The CSA and ACA varied significantly between sexes and sides, with specific lumbar levels showing wider angles in one sex over the other. The most common cortical zones for screw tips were Z3 and Z10, with high incidences across all lumbar levels. Conclusions: This study presents detailed lumbar vertebral morphometry data specific to the Thai population. The results are essential for CBT application in screw fixation procedures. Forty anatomy articles were sampled from English Wikipedia and assessed quantitatively and qualitatively. Quantitatively, each article's edit history was analyzed by Wikipedia X-tools, references and media were counted manually, and two readability indices were used to evaluate article readability. This analysis revealed that each article was updated 8.3 ± 6.8 times per month, and referenced with 33.5 ± 24.3 sources, such as journal articles and textbooks. Each article contained on average 14.0 ± 7.6 media items. The readability indices including: (1) Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level Readability Test and (2) Flesch Reading Ease Readability Formula demonstrated that the articles had low readability and were more appropriate for college students and above. Qualitatively, the sampled articles were evaluated by experts using a modified DISCERN survey. According to the modified DISCERN, 13 articles (32.5%), 24 articles (60%), 3 articles (7.5%), were rated as "good," "moderate," and "poor," respectively. There were positive correlations between the DISCERN score and the number of edits (r = 0.537), number of editors (r = 0.560), and article length (r = 0.536). Strengths reported by the panel included completeness and coverage in 11 articles (27.5%), anatomical details in 10 articles (25%), and clinical details in 5 articles (12.5%). The panel also noted areas which could be improved, such as providing missing information in 28 articles (70%), inaccuracies in 10 articles (25%), and lack or poor use of images in 17 articles (42.5%). In conclusion, this study revealed that many Wikipedia anatomy articles were difficult to read. Each article's quality was dependent on edit frequency and article length. Learners and students should be cautious when using Wikipedia articles for anatomy education due to these limitations.

Transverse basilar cleft (TBC) is an extremely rare variation of the clivus or the basilar part of the occipital bone. In this report, a unilateral transverse basilar fissure was found at the clivus in a head computed tomography of an 18-yearold female patient diagnosed with hemifacial microsomia (HFM). Image analysis of this patient showed shortening of the ramus of the right mandible along with medial displacement of the right temporomandibular joint and hypoplastic right maxilla. In addition, observation of the clivus showed a cleft between the basioticum and basioccipital bones at the level of the pharyngeal tubercle on the right side. This cleft was identified as TBC. Clival variations, TBC included, attributed to HFM have never been reported. This report draws attention to the complex relationship between abnormal development of clivus and HFM syndrome, and sheds light on a possible genetic and molecular association between these two conditions. This study consists of a retrospective cohort study, a systematic review, and a meta-analysis which were separately conducted. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of atlas arch defects, generate an evidence-based synthesis, and propose a common classi- fication system for the anterior and combined atlas arch defects. Atlas arch defects are well-corticated gaps in the anterior or posterior arch of the atlas. When both arches are involved, it is known as a combined arch defect. Awareness of these defects is essential for avoiding complications during surgical procedures on the upper spine. The prevalence of arch defects was investigated in an open-access OPC-Radiomics (Radiomic Biomarkers in Oropharyngeal Carcinoma) dataset comprising 606 head and neck computed tomography scans from oropharyngeal cancer patients. A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed to generate prevalence estimates of atlas arch defects and propose a classification system for the anterior and combined atlas arch defects. The posterior arch defect was found in 20 patients (3.3%) out of the 606 patients investigated. The anterior arch defect was not observed in any patient, while a combined arch defect was observed in one patient (0.2%). A meta-analysis of 13,539 participants from 14 studies, including the present study, yielded a pooled-posterior arch defect prevalence of 2.07% (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.22%-2.92%). The prevalences of anterior and combined arch defects were 0.00% (95% CI, 0.00%-0.10%) and 0.14% (95% CI, 0.04%-0.25%), respectively. The anterior and combined arch defects were classified into five subtypes based on their morphology and frequency. The present study showed that atlas arch defects were present in approximately 2% of the general population. For future studies, larger sample sizes should be used for studying arch defects to avoid the small-study effect and to predict the prevalence accurately. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We discuss a pilot implementation of Wikipedia writing assignments in three chemistry courses at the Mahidol University International College. Thirty eight out of 70 undergraduate students opted to write articles relating to their classes on the English Wikipedia as an alternative to a paper-based exam. As part of the assignments, 64 articles were created or improved by the students, but other voluntary contributions, during and after the courses, were also significant. Preliminary results collected over one academic year (September 2014 - December 2015) confirm that our current practice not only benefits student learning but also promotes 21st century learning (i.e. student-centered learning) and contributes to the free knowledge movement. Students' motivation to participate in a Wikipedia assignment and the difference in course outcomes from those who took a paper-based exam are also discussed in the paper. The nasal bones are important bony parts of the external nose and maxillofacial scaffold. Generally, the nasal bone is a small quadrangular plate paired and attached to the frontonasal suture superiorly and the nasal septum internally. The nasal septum is symmetrically located and comprises the septal cartilage, the perpendicular plate of the ethmoid bone, and the vomer. Herein, we report the anatomy of single nasal bones (SNB) identified in two human skulls. Two adult human skulls were found to have SNB. In one, the nasal septum was bifid and hooked as it joined with the nasal bone superiorly. Understanding the morphological variations of the nasal bone and septum is important for maxillofacial surgeries and should be further clarified and studied.
