Emergency response systems can be improved by investigating the motives and manner in which people share information during an active shooter crisis. This article analyzed survey data collected from undergraduate participants at The University of Texas at Austin who were enrolled during the fall of 2010 when an active shooter event occurred on campus. Our findings indicated that distance from a threat predicts an individual's perception of message credibility. Additional findings suggested innovativeness is a strong driving factor in individuals' reliance on social and personal media to contact others who need safety updates. Finally, perceptions of mortality and experience to negative media portrayals were positively related to active information sharing during this event. Limitations and suggestions for future research are offered.

Capitalizing on team members' knowledge resources is one of the key determinants of the success of a work team, and team leaders play an important role in cultivating team members' motivation to share their knowledge with each other. This study examined the effects of a leader's communicative framing of team goals on individuals' knowledge-sharing intention in a team setting. An experimental study with a 2 (leader's regulatory focus: promotion vs. prevention) X 2 (leader's reward focus: process vs. outcome) factorial design revealed that the leader's process-based reward framing leads to a significantly higher level of knowledge sharing intention than the leader's outcome-based reward framing. This result suggests that a leader's communicative framing that emphasizes and incentivizes collaborative processes as opposed to the team's end outcomes is more likely to encourage team knowledge sharing. The present research tested the effects of being ostracized on risk-taking behavior and how emotional responses to ostracism mediate these effects. In two experiments, undergraduates were either ostracized or included during an Internet ball-toss game (Cyberball). In Experiment 1 (N = 52), ostracism increased self-reported risk-taking inclinations, and the relation between ostracism and risk-taking was mediated by feelings of anger, but not control. In Experiment 2 (N = 72), ostracism increased risky driving during a driving video game. The effect of ostracism on risk-taking was again mediated by post-ostracism anger (but not control or ostracism-induced sadness).
