Heat and drought stresses have negative impacts on wheat yield and growth worldwide, causing up to 60% and 40% yield losses, respectively, but their combined effect can cause severe losses. The present study aimed to identify the high-yielding genetic resources tolerant to drought and/or heat stresses under climate change scenarios. The field trials on 42 genotypes were conducted at three locations in four environments (normal TSIR-NS, drought TSRF-DR, heat LSIR-HT, and heat and drought combined LSRF-DHT) each for two consecutive years. Yield contributing traits were recorded in all the experiments and all the locations: SI (susceptibility index) and STI (stress tolerance index) were also estimated. GY (Grain yield) was severely affected by LSRF-DHT (48.6%), followed by TSRF-DR (23.6%) and LSIR-HT (16.8%). GY had a positive correlation with BM (biomass), HI (harvest index), and TGW (1000-grain weight) under all environments and negative with DH (days to heading) (LSIR-HT and LSRF-DHT). Stepwise regression analysis revealed a higher contribution of BM and HI towards GY under all environments. GW (grain weight/spike) contributed under LSIR-HT and LSRF-DHT, and GN (grain number/spike) under TSIR-NS and TSRF-DR. GFD (grain-filling duration), TGW, and PTL (productive tillers) contributed under all conditions except LSRF-DHT. WS 2016-4 was the only genotype that yielded high under all the conditions. WS 2016-12 and CNM 16-1 were tolerant to heat and drought stresses and high yielding. HINDI 62, HTW 11, and QBP 1606 were less sensitive to all the stresses but low yielding. Overall, out of 30 tolerant genotypes (10 of each category), 19 adapted to escape mechanism which is irrespective of their yielding level. The study demonstrated the potential of identified genotypes in wheat breeding for climate resilience and the traits imparting tolerance to these genotypes.

Background: Changes in the temperature induction response are potential tools for the empirical assessment of plant cell tolerance. This technique is used to identify thermotolerant lines in field crops. In the present investigation, ten-day-old seedlings of six wheat genotypes released by Dr. PDKV, Akola, Maharashtra, India were exposed to gradual increases in high temperature and duration (control 25 °C to 30 °C for 1 h, 34 °C for 1 h, 38 °C for 2 h and 42 °C for 3 h) to investigate their effects on some physiological and biochemical parameters to provide basic information for improving heat-tolerant cultivars. Results: Proline levels increased with increasing temperature up to 34 °C for 1 h but then decreased at higher temperatures (depending on genotype). Notably, proline levels decreased at 38 °C for 2 h in PDKV-Washim, AKAW-3722, and PDKV Sardar and at 42 °C for 3 h in all the genotypes. The relative leaf water content (RLWC) and chlorophyll 'b' content significantly decreased with increasing temperature. Hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) levels increased with temperature. The enzyme activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), and peroxidase also increased with temperature. However, these parameters, along with other biochemical indicators, generally decreased at 42 °C for 3 h. Conclusion: This study revealed positive relationships between increasing temperatures. Hydrogen peroxide levels and the activities of SOD, APX, and peroxidase enzymes across all the genotypes. The AKAW-4627 genotype presented better maintenance of physiological and biochemical parameters and lower H₂O₂ levels, indicating greater heat tolerance. Compared with PDKV-Washim and AKAW-3722, which are more susceptible to high temperatures, the WSM-109–04, AKAW-4627 and PDKV Sardar genotypes presented better adaptability to heat stress. These findings suggest that selecting wheat genotypes with higher proline accumulation and better maintenance of physiological and biochemical parameters under heat stress, such as AKAW-4627, can help in the development of heat-tolerant wheat cultivars. One Health is a well-recognized concept; however, it has been at the fringe of most operational health policies rather than being the central theme. Although, global experts and policy makers have agreed on this theory, the transition from a vision to practical application is inconspicuous. COVID-19 pandemic has caused massive damage to the world economy and continues to peril human lives everywhere. Ignorance of the principles of One Health approach in the current health care system has proved to be the Achilles heel of our health policy. Social distancing, lockdown, and hand hygiene are short-term preventive measures imposed by nations worldwide but are difficult to sustain in the long run. Thus, it is long overdue that we change our unidimensional approach regarding the control and prevention of diseases. A rational practice of the One Health strategy should be our utmost priority to control the ongoing grave situation. The purpose of this article is to bring the attention of healthcare professionals and researchers toward the One Health paradigm for the betterment of public health while combating COVID-19 and to prepare for future emergence of infectious diseases. Our assessment for this review is based on the philosophy and views shared by recent publications on the One Health approach which emphasizes an integrated, multisectoral, and holistic concept (animal health-human health-environmental factors) and promotes a transdisciplinary-integrated tactic for disease prevention and control.

This study aimed to compare the C-reactive protein level and visual analog scale scores of piezo- and rotatory-based surgical extraction of the third molar. As a split-mouth study, the comparative groups consisted of 25 patients, each of whom underwent surgical removal of the third molar by piezo on one side and rotatory bur on the other side. C-reactive protein levels were quantitatively assessed (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) before and immediately post-extraction. The immediate postoperative blood sample (baseline) C-reactive protein levels were compared with 24 h and 72 h post-op samples, both within and between the groups. Pain was assessed using the visual analog scale at 24 h and 72 h post-operatively. The C-reactive protein levels were lower in the piezo group than in the rotatory group, although the difference was not significant (p > 0.05). The visual analog scale score was significantly (p < 0.01) lower in the piezo group than in the rotatory group. The C-reactive protein levels increased in both the rotary and piezo groups from the pre-op to the immediate post-op value, but in the piezo group, the levels dropped back after 24 h. On the contrary, in the rotatory group, the C-reactive level kept increasing until 24 h; the visual analog scale score dropped significantly from 24 to 72 h for both the rotatory and piezo groups. Surgical techniques that could spare the surrounding soft tissues, such as the piezo, could aid in reducing overall postoperative morbidity.

The present study examines the secular trends in prevalence of overweight and obesity among urban Asian Indian adolescents in New Delhi (North India). The data were derived from cross-sectional sampling of children, 3493 in year 2006 and 4908 in year 2009, aged 14-17 years studying in privately-funded and government-funded schools.
