Objective: To analyse the serum levels of soluble adhesion molecule 1 (sICAM 1), 17 helper T cells (Th17) and system immune inflammation index (SII) and endometriosis cyst degree of adhesion and the relationship between the ovarian reserve function after surgery for. Methods: From January 2020 to October 2023 in our hospital laparoscopic surgical endometriosis cyst removal of 90 cases of ectopic intrauterine membrane cyst patients into the observation group, according to the degree of endometriosis cyst adhesion, divided into severe adhesion group (32 cases) and the severe adhesion (58 cases). Physical examination work in the same period of 90 cases of healthy women in the control group. To detect all patients serum sICAM 1, resistance to seedling le tube hormone (AMH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estradiol (E2) levels and peripheral blood levels of Th17, SII. Multiple Logistic regression was used to analyze the relationship between sICAM-1, Th17, SII and adhesion of severe ectopic endometrial cyst. Postoperative serum AMH, FSH, LH and E2 levels were compared between the severe adhesion group and the non-severe adhesion group, SICAM-1, Th17, SII Pearson correlation analysis and the relationship between indicators of ovarian reserve function. Results: The levels of serum sICAM-1 and Th17 in peripheral blood in observation group were higher than those in control group, and SII was higher than those in control group (P<0.05). Serum sICAM-1 and peripheral blood Th17 levels in severe adhesion group were higher than those in non-severe adhesion group, SII was higher than that in non-severe adhesion group(P<0.05). Multiple Logistic regression analysis showed that sICAM-1, Th17 and SII were all independent influencing factors of severe ectopic endometrial cyst adhesion(P<0.05). Postoperative serum AMH and E2 levels were lower than the non-severe group, and FSH and LH levels were higher than the non-severe group (P<0.05). Pearson correlation analysis showed that sICAM-1, Th17 and SII in patients with endometriosis cyst were negatively correlated with postoperative AMH and E2 (P<0.05), and positively correlated with FSH and LH (P<0.05). Conclusion: Serum sICAM-1, Th17 and SII are positively correlated with the adhesion degree of endometriosis cyst, which is helpful to reflect the postoperative ovarian reserve function and worthy of further study and application. Abstract Systemic Immune Inflammatory Index (SII) is a novel indicator of inflammation. However, no studies have reported the effect of SII on the association between metals and total fat (TOFAT). We aim to investigate the mediated effect of SII on the relationship between urinary metals and TOFAT in a US adult population. This cross-sectional study was conducted among adults with complete information on SII, urine metal concentrations, and TOFAT from the 2011–2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Multifactorial logistic regression and restricted cubic splines were used to explore the association between urine metal levels and TOFAT. Furthermore, serial mediation analyses were used to investigate the mediating effect of SII on metals and TOFAT. A total of 3324 subjects were included in this study. Abstract Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) level is one of the commonly used indicators to assess renal function and systemic immune-inflammatory status. In the adolescent population, changes in BUN levels may be associated with a variety of factors, including physiologic dehydration, lifestyle influences such as nutritional intake, physical activity, and possible endocrine or metabolic disorders. In recent years, more and more studies have shown that BUN levels are not only a reflection of kidney function, but it may also be related to the inflammatory state of the body. The Systemic Immune Inflammatory Index (SII) is a comprehensive index that takes into account platelet counts, neutrophil and lymphocyte counts, and is thought to be effective in reflecting the body's immune status and inflammatory response. However, research on the relationship between the two, SII and BUN, remains understudied in the adolescent population. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between SII and BUN levels in a population of American adolescents and to further analyze the factors that influence it. We conducted a cross-sectional study using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database. Using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and regression analysis, we explored the relationship between SII and BUN levels. We found a significant negative correlation between SII and BUN levels, with BUN levels decreasing when SII levels increased (BUN as the dependent variable and SII as the outcome variable). We performed a multiple regression analysis of this relationship, controlling for possible confounders such as gender, age, race, and BMI, and found that this negative correlation remained significant. Our findings reveal an important relationship between SII and BUN levels and provide new perspectives for understanding adolescent health.

Background Microalbuminuria is a sensitive indicator of early renal microvascular damage and an independent risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Previous studies have shown that long-term chronic inflammation plays an important role in the occurrence and development of microalbuminuria. However, the correlation between blood inflammatory markers and microalbuminuria has been less frequently reported. Objective To investigate the correlation of systemic immune inflammatory index (SII) and systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI) with microalbuminuria in a middle-aged and elderly physical examination population. Methods This was a cross-sectional study in which 2 105 medical examiners over the age of 40 years who underwent health check-ups from April to July 2023 at the Department of Health Medicine, General Hospital of the Eastern Theatre of Operations were selected as study subjects. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of pan-immune inflammation value (PIV), systemic immune-inflammatory index (SII), and systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) in predicting mortality in acute cholecystitis (AC). BACKGROUND: Abdominal pain is one of the most frequent complaints encountered by physicians at emergency department (ED). METHODS: This clinical study is a cross-sectional study among patients admitted to the emergency department of a tertiary hospital and diagnosed with AC. Total survival curves were estimated by the Kaplan-Meier method. Differences according to risk groups were determined by the log-rank test. RESULTS: A total of 789 patients (survival: 737, non-survival: 52) diagnosed with AC were enrolled in the study. NLR and SII had an excellent diagnostic power in predicting 30-day mortality in the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis, while the diagnostic power of SIRI and PIV was acceptable. It was observed that the probability of survival period decreased in the presence of NLR (>11.07), SII (>2315.18), SIRI (>6.55), and PIV (>1581.13) above the cut-off levels. The HRs of NLR, SII, SIRI, and PIV were 10.52, 7.44, 6.34, and 5.6, respectively. Objective: To investigate the predictive value of preoperative prognostic nutritional index (PNI), systemic immune inflammatory index (SII) combined with serum trefoil factor 3 (TFF3) for postoperative recurrence and metastasis of cervical cancer. Methods: 176 cervical cancer patients who underwent surgical treatment of Jiangsu Province Hospital from January 2018 to January 2020 were selected, cervical cancer patients were divided into recurrence and metastasis group (38 cases) and non-recurrence and metastasis group (138 cases) according to whether there was recurrence and metastasis after 3 years of follow-up. Preoperative PNI, SII and preoperative serum TFF3 levels were calculated. Factors affecting postoperative recurrence and metastasis of cervical cancer were analyzed by multivariate Logistic regression model, the value of PNI, SII, TFF3 alone and PNI, SII combined with serum TFF3 in predicting postoperative recurrence and metastasis of cervical cancer were analyzed by drawn receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Results: After 3 years of follow-up, the recurrence and metastasis rate of 176 cervical cancer patients was 21.59% (38/176). Compared with non-recurrence and metastasis group, the PNI was decreased, and the levels of SII and serum TFF3 were increased in recurrence and metastasis group(P<0.05). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that, poor differentiation, International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics(FIGO) stage II, pelvic lymph node metastasis, positive margin, elevated squamous cell carcinoma antigen, elevated SII and elevated TFF3 were independent risk factors for postoperative recurrence and metastasis of cervical cancer, and elevated PNI was an independent protective factor (P<0.05). ROC curve analysis showed that, the area under the curve of PNI, SII combined with serum TFF3 in predicting postoperative recurrence and metastasis of cervical cancer was 0.906, which was greater than 0.795, 0.785, 0.772, 0.860, 0.874 and 0.860 predicted by PNI, SII, TFF3, PNI+SII, PNI+TFF3 and SII+TFF3. Conclusion: The decrease of preoperative PNI and the decrease of SII and serum TFF3 levels are closely relate to postoperative recurrence and metastasis of cervical cancer, preoperative PNI, SII combine with serum TFF3 has a high predictive value for postoperative recurrence and metastasis of cervical cancer. Objective: To investigate the value of systemic immune inflammatory index (SII) combine with serum CXC chemokine ligand 5 (CXCL5) and chemokine ligand 12 (CXCL12) in predicting recurrence in patients with high grade glioma (HGG) after operation. Methods: 169 patients with HGG who were underwent operation treatment in our hospital from January 2019 to January 2022 were selected. Neutrophil, lymphocyte, platelet count and serum CXCL5, CXCL12 levels were detected in patients with HGG, and SII was calculated before operation. Patients were followed up 1 year, patients with HGG were divided into recurrence group (113 cases) and non recurrence group (56 cases) according to the recurrence after operation. The influencing factors of recurrence in patients with HGG after operation were analyzed by multivariate Logistic regression analysis. The value of SII combine with serum CXCL5 and CXCL12 in predicting recurrence in patients with HGG after operation were analyzed by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Results: The levels of SII and serum CXCL5 and CXCL12 in recurrent group were higher than those in non recurrent group (P<0.05). The recurrence of patients with HGG after operation was related to age, KPS score before operation, WHO pathological grade, surgical resection range and after operation treatment (P<0.05), and not to gender (P>0.05). Multivariate logistic analysis showed that, WHO pathological grade IV, surgical resection range were incomplete resection, elevated SII, elevated serum CXCL5, and elevated CXCL12 were risk factors for recurrence in patients with HGG after operation (P<0.05). The area under the curve of SII, serum CXCL5 and CXCL12 alone in predicting recurrence of patients with HGG after operation was 0.820, 0.875 and 0.845, respectively, the area under the curve of combined detection was 0.964, which was higher than that of single index detection. Conclusion: Elevate SII, elevate serumCXCL5, and elevate CXCL12 in recurrence patients with HGG after operation, and WHO pathological grade IV, surgical resection range were incomplete resection are risk factor in recurrence patients with HGG after operation. Objective To observe the gene polymorphism of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase （MTHFR） C677T in patients with H-type hypertension combined with acute ischaemic stroke and to analyze its correlation with renal function in these patients. Methods Totally 153 patients with H-type hypertension combined with acute ischaemic stroke were selected as the observation group, and 158 patients with non-H-type hypertension combined with acute ischaemic stroke in the same period were selected as the control group. Peripheral venous blood was collected from both groups, and MTHFR C677T genotype was detected by PCR amplification and microarray technology to measure systemic immune inflammation index （SII), and serum creatinine levels were measured using a Hitachi 7600 automatic biochemical analyzer in order to calculate the estimated glomerular filtration rate （eGFR） in both group. Multiple linear regression analysis was employed to assess the correlations of MTHFR C677T genotypes with homocysteine （Hcy） level and eGFR in patients with H-type hypertension combined with acute ischaemic stroke, and Spearman correlation analysis was employed to assess the correlations of SII with eGFR and Hcy levels in patients with H-type hypertension combined with acute ischaemic stroke. Results Compared with the control group, patients in the observation group had the highest frequency of TT genotype distribution and the highest frequency of T allele （χ2 =19. 188, 5. 138, respectively； both P<0. 05). In prospective studies, there is limited evidence of the association between inflammation and hypertension. We aimed to explore the relationship between systemic immune inflammatory index (SII)/systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI) and hypertension in a prospective cohort study to identify the best inflammatory cell markers that predict hypertension. This study was conducted in a functional community cohort in Beijing. In 2015, a total of 6003 individuals without hypertension were recruited and followed up until 2021. Using a restriction cubic spline with baseline SII/SIRI as a continuous variable, the dose-response relationship between hypertension and SII/SIRI was explored. Logistic regression was used to analyze the correlation between hypertension and SII/SIRI trajectory groups. At a mean follow-up of 6 years, 970 participants developed hypertension. SII showed a significant nonlinear dose-response relationship with hypertension (P < 0.05). Higher SII/SIRI was associated with an increased risk of hypertension (SII: RR = 1.003, 95%CI: 1.001–1.004; SIRI: RR = 1.228, 95%CI: 1.015–1.486). Both SII and SIRI were more predictive in males than females (SII: 0.698 vs. 0.695; SIRI: 0.686 vs. 0.678). Conclusion: In this study, we observed a significant positive association between the SII and both all-cause and CVD mortality in patients with diabetes. Additionally, it was discovered that this association exhibited a non-linear pattern. Multivariate Cox regression models displayed that each standard deviation (SD) increase in SIRI was associated with a 16% (HR 1.16; 95% CI 1.09–1.24) and 22% (HR 1.22; 95% CI 1.10–1.36) increase in the risk of all-cause and CVD mortality, respectively. Likewise, every SD increase in SII was correlated with a 9% (HR 1.09; 95% CI 1.02–1.16) and 14% (HR 1.14; 95% CI 1.04–1.26) increase in the risk of all-cause and CVD mortality, respectively. The predictive value of SIRI for all-cause and CVD mortality (AUC = 0.601 and 0.624) exceeded that of SII (AUC = 0.528 and 0.539). Moreover, the nomogram displayed a substantial predictive value for 10-year survival (AUC = 0.847) with sensitivity and specificity exceeding 75%. Conclusions: In the obese population, SIRI and SII are independent risk factors for all-cause and CVD mortality. Notably, the predictive ability of SIRI for both all-cause and CVD mortality significantly outperforms that of SII, suggesting that SIRI is a more valuable marker of inflammation. Noreflow is a condition associated with a poor prognosis in ST segment elevation myocardial infarction patients. It has been shown that many inflammatory markers and index such as procalcitonin, C-reactive protein, neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio, systemic immune inflammatory index (SII), are associated with noreflow. We used a brand-new index pan-immune-inflammation value (PIV) to retrospectively evaluate the relationship between PIV and noreflow. A total of 1212 patients were included for analysis. Noreflow was observed in 145 patients. In multivariate analysis, PIV (odds ratio (OR): 1.025; [1.002–1.115], p < 0.001), baseline ejection fraction (OR: 0.963; [0.934–0.993], p = 0.015), stent length (OR: 1.032; [1.010–1.054], p = 0.004), age (OR: 1.034; [1.014-1.053], p = 0.001) and pain to PCI time (OR: 1.003 [1.002–1.005], p < 0.001) were observed to be the independent predictors of noreflow. ROC curve analysis showed that the best cut off value of PIV for predicting noreflow was ≥889 with 77.2% sensitivity and 77.5% specificity (AUC, 0.828; 95% CI [0.806-0.849]). A ROC curve comparison analysis was performed to compare PIV and SII. The predictive power of PIV was higher than SII (differences between areas: 0.154; p < 0.001). Background and Objectives: This study aimed to examine the function of various inflammation parameters and their interactions in the pathology of Bipolar disorder (BD) and to assess whether they could be biomarkers in the relationship between criminal behavior and BD. Materials and Methods: Overall, 1029 participants, including 343 patients with BD who have committed offenses, 343 nonoffending patients with BD, and 343 healthy controls, were included in this retrospective study. Neutrophil, lymphocyte, monocyte, and platelet counts; high-density lipoprotein (HDL-c) levels; systemic immune-inflammatory index (SII), systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI), neutrophil to high-density lipoprotein ratio (NHR), lymphocyte to high-density lipoprotein ratio (LHR), monocyte to high-density lipoprotein ratio (MHR), platelet to high-density lipoprotein ratio (PHR) were measured. Results: Significant differences were observed between the groups in terms of SII, SIRI, NHR, LHR, MHR, PHR, neutrophil, and monocyte values (p < 0.001). The lymphocyte counts were significantly higher in the patients with BD who committed offenses (p = 0.04). The platelet counts were significantly lower in the patients with BD who committed offenses compared to nonoffending patients with BD (p = 0.015). The HDL-c levels were significantly lower in the patients with BD who have committed offenses than those of nonoffending patients with BD (p < 0.001). Bipolar disorder, not receiving active psychiatric treatment, having a diagnosis of bipolar manic episodes, and having low platelet and HDL values constitute a risk of involvement in crime. Conclusions: The present study emphasizes the role of systemic inflammation in the pathophysiology of patients with BD with and without criminal offenses and the relationship between inflammation and criminal behavior. Objective: To explore the relationship between systemic immune inflammation index (SII), platelet count and neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (COP-NLR) scores with clinical pathological characteristics and prognosis in locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients. 94 locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients who were admitted to Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University from January 2015 to December 2017 were selected. SII and COP-NLR scores were calculated, and the optimal threshold value of SII before treatment was determined by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. The differences in clinical and pathological characteristics of locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients with different SII and COP-NLR scores were compared. Draw Kaplan-Meier survival curves to analyzed the differences in overall survival (OS) of locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients with different SII and COP-NLR scores, and the risk factors affecting patient prognosis through univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis were analyzed. Results: Patients with locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma were divided into a low SII group (46 cases) and a high SII group (48 cases), low COP-NLR group (0-1 point, 45 cases), and high COP-NLR group (2 points, 49 cases) based on the optimal SII threshold and COP-NLR scoring criteria. The proportion of TNM stage IVa, lymph node metastasis, and skull base invasion in the high SII group and high COP-NLR group were higher than those in the low SII group and low COP-NLR group (P<0.05). The 5-year OS of the high SII group and high COP-NLR group significantly decreased (P<0.05). TNM stage IVa, elevated SII, and elevated COP-NLR score are risk factors for poor prognosis in locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients (P<0.05). Conclusion: High SII and COP-NLR scores are associated with malignant pathological characteristics and low survival rate in locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients. Abstract Background Acute spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (sICH) is a morbid and deadly form of stroke. The lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) and systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) are two novel markers of systemic inflammation. We aimed at investigating the predictive value of LMR and SII in patients with sICH. Methods We retrospectively evaluated patients who were hospitalized for sICH at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from September 2019 to July 2020. We investigated the predictive value of SII for malignant cerebral edema (MCE) and whether postoperative MCE mediates the relationship between SII and functional prognosis in patients undergoing endovascular thrombectomy (EVT).Patients and Methods: A total of 829 patients with anterior circulation large-vessel occlusive stroke (LVOS) were registered, and 675 (81.4%) met the inclusion criteria. We collected baseline data upon admission, including SII. Postoperative computed tomography was performed to assess the presence and grading of cerebral edema (CED), and MCE was defined as a CED score of 3. A good prognosis was defined as a modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score of 0– 2 at the 90-day follow-up.Results: A total of 132 patients developed MCE after EVT. The patients were divided into MCE and non-MCE groups, and univariate and multifactorial analyses were performed. Among these risk factors, an elevated SII was independently correlated with the occurrence of MCE. In addition, the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to assess the predictive capability of SII levels for prognosis. The area under the ROC was 0.69, and the optimal critical value was 2.14. In addition, postoperative MCE may partially account for the poorer functional prognosis of patients with elevated SII (regression coefficient changed by 40.3%).Conclusion: The SII is an independent predictor of malignant brain edema after EVT. Objective: To investigate the correlation between systemic immune inflammatory (SII) index, serum interleukin-35 (IL-35) and high mobility Group-Box one (HMGB-1) with the severity and prognosis of sepsis. Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical data of 209 patients with sepsis admitted to Ganzhou City People's Hospital from October 2019 to October 2021. One hundred eighteen patients in Group-A had common sepsis, and 91 patients in Group-B had septic shock, which were subdivided into the survival Group-And the mortality Group-According to the 28d prognosis. The levels of SII, IL-35 and HMGB-1 in different groups were compared, and their correlation with the severity and prognosis of sepsis was analyzed. Results: The levels of SII, IL-35 and HMGB-1 in Group-A were significantly lower than those in Group-B (p<0.05). The levels of SII, IL-35 and HMGB-1 in the survival group were significantly lower than those in the death group (p<0.05). Spearman correlation analysis showed that the levels of SII, IL-35, and HMGB-1 were significantly positively correlated with the severity of sepsis (p<0.05), and significantly positively correlated with the prognosis of patients with sepsis (p<0.05). Conclusion: SII, IL-35 and HMGB-1 are remarkably correlated with the severity and prognosis of patients with sepsis. Objective: Rotavirus (RV) is one of the most common and important causes of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) in newborns and children worldwide. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the RV vaccine on the natural history of RV infections using the neutrophil–lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet–lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and systemic immune inflammatory index (SII) as hematological indexes, clinical findings, and hospitalization. Method: Children aged 1 month to 5 years who were diagnosed with RV AGE between January 2015 and January 2022 were screened, and 630 patients were included in the study. The SII was calculated by the following formula: neutrophil × platelet/lymphocyte. Results: Fever and hospitalization were significantly higher and breastfeeding was significantly lower in the RV-unvaccinated group than in the RV-vaccinated group. The NLR, PLR, SII, and CRP were significantly higher in the RV-unvaccinated group (p < 0.05). The NLR, PLR, and SII were significantly higher both in the non-breastfed group than in the breastfed group and in the hospitalized group than in the not hospitalized group (p < 0.05). CRP was not significantly different in either the hospitalization group or the breastfeeding group (p > 0.05). SII and PLR were significantly lower in the RV-vaccinated group than in the RV-unvaccinated group in both the breastfed and non-breastfed subgroups. For NLR and CRP, while there was no significant difference according to RV vaccination status in the breastfed group, there was a significant difference in the non-breastfed group (p value: <0.001; <0.001). Conclusions: Despite the low level of vaccine coverage, the introduction of RV vaccination had a positive impact on the incidence of RV-positive AGE and related hospitalizations in children. These results showed that breastfed and vaccinated children were less prone to inflammation because their NLR, PLR, and SII ratios were lower. The vaccine does not prevent the disease 100%. OBJECTIVE: Some studies have reported that the systemic immune inflammatory index (SII) and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) provide predictive data on prognosis in gastric cancer patients. In the present study, it was aimed to examine the diagnostic and prognostic values of SII and NLR in gastric cancer. METHODS: A total of 152 patients, operated with the diagnosis of gastric cancer and followed up in the General Surgery Department of our hospital between January 2012 and April 2018, and 152 healthy controls were included in the study. RESULTS: The mean SII (989±685) and the mean NLR (3.9±5.2) were significantly higher in gastric cancer patients than the healthy control group (433±203 and 1.9±0.8, respectively) (p<0.001 for both). In the receiver operating characteristic analyzes, a threshold value of 892 for SII had a sensitivity of 66.7% and a specificity of 62.7% in terms of predicting 5-year survival (AUC: 0.637; p=0.076; LB: 0.475; UB: 0.799; CI 95%). The 5-year survival rate was found to be significantly higher in those with a SII of above 892 than those with a SII of 892 and below (p=0.026). The 5-year mortality risk was 0.67-fold lower in those with SII above 892 (p=0.111; 95% CI 0.4-1.1). Objectives: Ascending aortic aneurysm (AAA) is defined as the enlargement of the aorta at the point where it exits the heart, and many pathophysiological processes play a role in its development. Studies have shown that the inflammatory process and blood uric acid levels play a role in many cardiovascular diseases. In our study, we investigated the effects of uric acid and blood inflammation parameters on the development of AAA by comparing them with the control group. Materials and Methods: The study included 97 patients who were found to have AAA in echocardiographic examination and 100 patients without AAA. Patients with AAA were determined as group 1, and those without aneurysm were determined as group 2. The clinical and laboratory data of the patients were evaluated retrospectively through the hospital information system. Results: In the AAA group, compared to the control group, uric acid levels (5.7±1.4 vs 3.9±0.8, p=0.001), systemic immune inflammation index (SII) [538 (330-854) vs 440 (324-578), p=0.007] and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) [4.7 (3.7-5.9) vs 4.1 (3.2-4.9), p=0.001] were found to be significantly higher, while the platelet-lymphocyte ratio [110 (84-170) vs 105 (82-135) p=0.186] was found to be similar. In multivariate logistic regression analysis, uric acid (p=0.001) was found to be an independent predictor of AAA. Conclusion: In our study, we found that inflammatory parameters such as NLR and SII, and serum uric acid level were higher in patients with AAA compared in the control group. Background and Objectives: This study aimed to examine the function of various inflammation parameters and their interactions in the pathology of Bipolar disorder (BD) and to assess whether they could be biomarkers in the relationship between criminal behavior and BD. Materials and Methods: Overall, 1029 participants, including 343 patients with BD who have committed offenses, 343 nonoffending patients with BD, and 343 healthy controls, were included in this retrospective study. Neutrophil, lymphocyte, monocyte, and platelet counts; high-density lipoprotein (HDL-c) levels; systemic immune-inflammatory index (SII), systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI), neutrophil to high-density lipoprotein ratio (NHR), lymphocyte to high-density lipoprotein ratio (LHR), monocyte to high-density lipoprotein ratio (MHR), platelet to high-density lipoprotein ratio (PHR) were measured. Results: Significant differences were observed between the groups in terms of SII, SIRI, NHR, LHR, MHR, PHR, neutrophil, and monocyte values (p < 0.001). The lymphocyte counts were significantly higher in the patients with BD who committed offenses (p = 0.04). The platelet counts were significantly lower in the patients with BD who committed offenses compared to nonoffending patients with BD (p = 0.015). The HDL-c levels were significantly lower in the patients with BD who have committed offenses than those of nonoffending patients with BD (p < 0.001). Bipolar disorder, not receiving active psychiatric treatment, having a diagnosis of bipolar manic episodes, and having low platelet and HDL values constitute a risk of involvement in crime. Conclusions: The present study emphasizes the role of systemic inflammation in the pathophysiology of patients with BD with and without criminal offenses and the relationship between inflammation and criminal behavior.

Background: Prognostic nutritional index (PNI) and systemic immune-inflammatory index (SII) are two novel markers that have emerged as potential candidates as an early indication of the severity of the disease in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients., Objective: The objective of the study is to assess the utility of the prognostic nutritional index (PNI) and systemic immune-inflammatory index (SII) as markers of severity among patients with COVID-19 infection., Methods: This is a retrospective study conducted in a tertiary care centre in South India. A total of 80 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 were included in the study. The patients were divided into mild, moderate, and severe groups based on the clinical parameters as per Indian Council of Medical Research guidelines. Lab values taken at admission were obtained from patient records, using which the PNI and SII were calculated using standard formulae. These markers were correlated with the severity of the COVID-19 illness., Results: PNI and SII were significantly elevated in the patients with severe COVID-19 illness as compared with mild COVID-19 illness. The mean PNI among subjects with mild COVID-19 and severe COVID-19 being 46.62 ± 6.51 and 34.09 ± 5.81, respectively. The mean SII among subjects with mild COVID-19 was 9,52,287.2 ± 1,42,113, and among subjects with severe COVID-19 was 15,39,461 ± 8,04,285. The cut-off value for PNI and SII for predicting severity of COVID-19 illness was 35.93 and 5,82,400, respectively. The sensitivity for PNI was 87.5, and the SII was 95., Conclusion: The present study showed a significant correlation between the SII and PNI as markers used to determine the severity of COVID-19. BackgroundPeripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is a potentially life-threatening complication of pregnancy. The identification of early prognostic markers in patients diagnosed with PPCM is very important. The systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) is a new inflammatory biomarker, and the aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic value of SII in patients with PPCM.MethodsA total of 61 patients with PPCM who were admitted in our hospital from 2015 to 2020 were retrospectively analyzed in this study. The follow-up period of all patients was at least 6 months after diagnosis. Recovery of left ventricular (LV) systolic function was defined as the presence of left ventricular ejection fraction > 45%. The second endpoint was defined as composite adverse cardiac events, including cardiac death or hospitalization due to worsening heart failure. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to determine the independent predictors of non-recovery of LV systolic function. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to establish a cut-off level of SII value to predict persistent LV systolic dysfunction.ResultsThe follow-up duration was 40.5 ± 16.3 months. Among the 61 patients, 43 patients showed left ventricular recovery and 18 patients did not at the last follow-up visit. The baseline SII levels were significantly higher in the non-recovery group (P < 0.05). Multivariate logistic regression showed that the SII and left ventricular end-diastolic dimension (LVEDD) were independent predictors of persistent LV systolic dysfunction (OR: 1.177, 95% CI: 1.038–1.335, P = 0.011 and OR: 1.148, 95% CI: 1.011–1.304, P = 0.033, respectively). A SII value of 876 was the best cut-off value (the area under the curve was 0.791, 95% CI: 0.667–0.915, P < 0.05), and the sensitivity and specificity were 73 and 71%, respectively.ConclusionsThe SII and LVEDD are independent prognostic factors for persistent LV systolic dysfunction in patients with PPCM. The SII may be a useful tool for identifying high-risk PPCM patients.

Background: Interstitial lung disease frequently coincides with pneumonia in clinical settings, and both conditions are closely associated with immunoinflammation. The Systemic Immune Inflammatory Index (SII) is a recently identified marker, and its connection to the prognosis of individuals suffering from interstitial lung disease and concurrent pneumonia remains unclear. The objective of this study was to scrutinize the correlation between varying SII levels and unfavorable outcomes in patients grappling with interstitial lung disease complicated by pneumonia., Methods: This study encompassed a retrospective multicenter cohort of 324 patients diagnosed with interstitial lung disease and pneumonia, all receiving glucocorticoid treatment during their hospitalization. We initially conducted ROC analysis to determine the optimal SII threshold. Subsequently, we examined disparities in clinical symptoms, physical signs, clinical test data, and other clinical attributes among patients with differing SII levels. Later, we employed the Kaplan-Meier survival curve method to assess the association between distinct SII levels and the 30-day and 90-day mortality rates in patients dealing with interstitial lung disease complicated by pneumonia. Finally, a Cox regression model was employed to identify factors influencing adverse prognosis in these patients., Results and Discussion: The findings demonstrated that the optimal SII threshold for predicting 30-day mortality was 1416.97, with an AUC of 0.633 (95% CI: 0.559-0.708) and a P value of <0.001. For 90-day mortality, the optimal SII threshold was 994.59, yielding an AUC of 0.628 (95% CI: 0.56-0.697) and a P value of <0.001. Noteworthy statistical distinctions emerged in dyspnea, cyanosis, and oxygenation index among patients with varying SII levels. Additionally, invasive mechanical ventilation, non-invasive ventilation, and extended infection duration independently constituted 30-day and 90-day mortality risk factors. Elevated heart rate and higher SII levels emerged as independent risk factors for 90-day mortality., Conclusion: To some extent, SII levels exhibit correlations with the clinical manifestations in patients grappling with interstitial lung disease complicated by pneumonia. Notably, a high SII level is an independent predictor for an unfavorable prognosis in these patients. Objective: To explore the predictive effect of systemic immune inflammatory index (SII) combined with neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) on prognosis of acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) patients., Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the data of 160 patients diagnosed with hepatitis B virus (HBV)-ACLF in Hunan Provincial People's Hospital from June 2022 to June 2023. The patients were divided into a survival group and a death group based on their survival status within 90 days after admission. General data, laboratory indicators, and complications were recorded. The risk factors affecting prognosis of HBV-ACLF patients and the correlation between NLR, SII, and model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) score were analyzed, and the predictive effect of NLR and SII on prognosis was evaluated., Results: Compared to the survival group, the age, MELD score, and incidence of infection of the death group were higher, and the expression levels of total bilirubin, aspartate aminotransferase, serum creatinine, white blood count, neutrophil, NLR, SII, and international normalized ratio were increased, while the expression levels of alanine aminotransferase, platelets and lymphocytes were decreased (all P <0.05). NLR, SII and MELD score were all risk factors affecting the prognosis of HBV-ACLF patients (all P <0.001). There was a positive correlation between NLR, SII and MELD score ( P <0.001). Compared with NSCLC patients with low SII level, patients with NSCLC with high SII level had a poor OS (HR = 1.75, 95% CI, 1.50-2.00; P  < 0.001) and had a poor PFS (HR = 1.61, 95% CI, 1.25-1.96; P  < 0.001). Background: Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is a potentially life-threatening complication of pregnancy. The identification of early prognostic markers in patients diagnosed with PPCM is very important. The systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) is a new inflammatory biomarker, and the aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic value of SII in patients with PPCM., Methods: A total of 61 patients with PPCM who were admitted in our hospital from 2015 to 2020 were retrospectively analyzed in this study. The follow-up period of all patients was at least 6 months after diagnosis. Recovery of left ventricular (LV) systolic function was defined as the presence of left ventricular ejection fraction > 45%. The second endpoint was defined as composite adverse cardiac events, including cardiac death or hospitalization due to worsening heart failure. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to determine the independent predictors of non-recovery of LV systolic function. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to establish a cut-off level of SII value to predict persistent LV systolic dysfunction., Results: The follow-up duration was 40.5 ± 16.3 months. Among the 61 patients, 43 patients showed left ventricular recovery and 18 patients did not at the last follow-up visit. The baseline SII levels were significantly higher in the non-recovery group ( P < 0.05). Multivariate logistic regression showed that the SII and left ventricular end-diastolic dimension (LVEDD) were independent predictors of persistent LV systolic dysfunction (OR: 1.177, 95% CI: 1.038-1.335, P = 0.011 and OR: 1.148, 95% CI: 1.011-1.304, P = 0.033, respectively). A SII value of 876 was the best cut-off value (the area under the curve was 0.791, 95% CI: 0.667-0.915, P < 0.05), and the sensitivity and specificity were 73 and 71%, respectively., Conclusions: The SII and LVEDD are independent prognostic factors for persistent LV systolic dysfunction in patients with PPCM. (1) Background: Recent research suggests inflammation as a factor involved in the pathophysiology of mood disorders. Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte (NLR), monocyte-to-lymphocyte (MLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte (PLR), and systemic immune-inflammatory (SII) index ratios have been studied as peripheral markers of inflammation in bipolar and major depressive disorders. The purpose of this study is to comparatively analyze these inflammatory ratios among manic episodes of bipolar disorder, bipolar depression and unipolar depression. (2) Methods: 182 patients were retrospectively included in the study and divided into three groups: 65 manic patients, 34 patients with bipolar depression, and 83 unipolar depressive patients. White blood cells, neutrophils, monocytes, lymphocytes, and platelets were retrieved from the patients' database. NLR, MLR, PLR, and SII index were calculated using these parameters. (3) Results: Patients with manic episodes had elevated NLR (p < 0.001), MLR (p < 0.01), PLR (p < 0.05), and SII index (p < 0.001) compared to unipolar depression and increased NLR (p < 0.05) and SII index (p < 0.05) when compared to bipolar depression. NLR (p < 0.01) and SII index (p < 0.05) were higher in the bipolar depression than unipolar depression. NLR is an independent predictor of the bipolar type of depression in depressive patients. (4) Conclusions: The results confirm the role of inflammation in the pathophysiology of mood disorders and suggest the ability of NLR as a marker for the differentiation of bipolar from unipolar depression.
