High-grade epithermal Au–Ag veins of the Vodorazdelnaya district in far eastern Russia are hosted by Early Cretaceous volcanic rocks of the Tytylveem belt. The largest deposit is Zone 37, a 1-km long, northeast-striking vein that is up to 35-m wide, containing at least 32 t Au. The main shoot consists of crustiform—colloform banded quartz-chalcedony-adularia-sulfide veins, of low-sulfidation style. The vein is cut by late-mineral rhyolite sills and dikes. Zone 37 vein is dated at 117 ± 2 Ma, overlapping within error with the cross-cutting rhyolites (121–119 Ma) and with intrusions of the nearby Ilirney granitic pluton (119–117 Ma). The volcanic host rocks are dated at 121–115 Ma. At September Northeast, 15 km west-northwest of Zone 37, mineralisation consists of veins up to 4 m wide, with crustiform banded quartz ± chalcedony ± adularia ± chlorite, and Zn-Pb-Cu sulfides, of intermediate sulfidation style, in a 1-km-long, north-northeast striking trend. High grades are associated with gold dendrites in fine-grained quartz bands and with minor late-stage tellurides. The veins were disrupted by intrusion of rhyolite dikes and associated phreatic breccias. Some breccias host mineralisation as vein clasts and minor matrix sulfides. The Tytylveem belt is preserved below a regional unconformity that forms the base to the overlying Late Cretaceous (106–77 Ma) Okhotsk-Chukotka Volcanic Belt (OCVB). Intrusive rocks attributed to OCVB magmatism were emplaced at about 96 Ma and are associated with overprinting hydrothermal alteration, sub-economic veins and thermal resetting of some vein adularia ages at Zone 37, to 91–97 Ma.

The gas separation properties of 6FDA-DAM mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) with three types of zirconium-based metal organic framework nanoparticles (MOF NPs, ca. 40 nm) have been investigated up to 20 bar. Both NPs preparation and MMMs development were presented in an earlier publication that reported outstanding CO2/CH4 separation performances (50:50 vol% CO2/CH4 feed at 2 bar pressure difference, 35 °C) and this subsequent study is to demonstrate its usefulness to the natural gas separation application. In the current work, CO2/CH4 separation has been investigated at high pressure (2–20 bar feed pressure) with different CO2 content in the feed (10–50 vol%) in the temperature range 35–55 °C. Moreover, the plasticization, competitive sorption effects, and separation of the acid gas hydrogen sulfide (H2S) have been investigated in a ternary feed mixture of CO2:H2S:CH4 (vol% ratio of 30:5:65) at 20 bar and 35 °C. The incorporation of the Zr-MOFs in 6FDA-DAM enhances both CO2 permeability and CO2/CH4 selectivity of this polymer. These MMMs exhibit high stability under separation conditions relevant to an actual natural gas sweetening process. The presence of H2S does not induce plasticization but increases the total acid gas permeability, acid gas/CH4 selectivity and only causes reversible competitive sorption. The overall study suggests a large potential for 6FDA-DAM Zr-MOF MMMs to be applied in natural gas sweetening, with good performance and stability under the relevant process conditions.

The identity of a tree cultivated in the city of Camagüey for ornamental purposes was revealed. The tree had become popular due to the inexistence of similar specimens in other gardens of the country. The utilization of botanical methods, like collection management, the use of catalogs and keys, and scientific description and illustrations, facilitated its identification as Dioon spinulosum Dyer & Eichler. (Zamiaceae), a taxon only recorded in Cuba for scientific collections. The species was described and a key was set up to differentiate the plant to another specimen that belongs to the genus observed on the island, and to determine the possible age of the plant was assessed.

The present work shows the synthesis of nano-sized hybrid zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) with the rho topology based on a mixture of the linkers benzimidazole (bIm) and 4-methyl-5-imidazolecarboxaldehyde (4-m-5-ica). The hybrid ZIF was obtained by post-synthetic modification of ZIF-93 in a bIm solution. The use of different solvents, MeOH and N, N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc), and reaction times led to differences in the quantity of bIm incorporated to the framework, from 7.4 to 23 % according to solution-state NMR spectroscopy. XPS analysis showed that the mixture of linkers was also present at the surface of the particles. The inclusion of bIm to the ZIF-93 nanoparticles improved the thermal stability of the framework and also increased the hydrophobicity according to water adsorption results. N2 and CO2 adsorption experiments revealed that the hybrid material has an intermediate adsorption capacity, between those of ZIF-93 and ZIF-11. Finally, ZIF-93/11 hybrid materials were applied as fillers in polybenzimidazole (PBI) mixed matrix membranes (MMMs). These MMMs were used for H2/CO2 separation (at 180 °C) reaching values of 207 Barrer of H2 and a H2/CO2 selectivity of 7.7 that clearly surpassed the Robeson upper bound (corrected for this temperature).

MIL-68(Al) and MIL-53(Al) are carboxylate-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with the same chemical composition but different structures (polymorphs). In this study, MIL-53(Al) nanosheets of ca. 150 nm in size with an average thickness of 3.5 ± 0.9 nm were obtained after immersion of a sample composed of MIL-68(Al) and MIL-53(Al) in water under different conditions (ultrasound, stirring, reflux, 60 °C and room temperature). The disaggregated MIL-53(Al) nanosheets produced under more severe conditions were suspended in a PDMS solution and then deposited on asymmetric polyimide P84® supports under vacuum filtration to form supported mixed matrix membranes (MMMs). When applied to the separation of CO 2 /CH 4 and CO 2 /N 2 mixtures, the MMM with MIL-53(Al) nanosheets improved the CO 2 /CH 4 (28.4-28.7 vs. 22.4) and CO 2 /N 2 (19.9-23.2 vs. 17.5) selectivities of the conventional MIL-53(Al) MMM with higher CO 2 permeances (20.8-29.6 GPU vs. 9.5 GPU for CO 2 /CH 4 and 17.7-26.8 GPU vs. 11.2 GPU for CO 2 /N 2 ).
