The Rare-RI Ring (R3) is a recently commissioned cyclotron-like storage ring mass spectrometer dedicated to mass measurements of exotic nuclei far from stability at Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory (RIBF) in RIKEN. The first application of mass measurement using the R3 mass spectrometer at RIBF is reported. Rare isotopes produced at RIBF, $^{127}$Sn, $^{126}$In, $^{125}$Cd, $^{124}$Ag, $^{123}$Pd, were injected in R3. Masses of $^{126}$In, $^{125}$Cd, and $^{123}$Pd were measured whereby the mass uncertainty of $^{123}$Pd was improved. This is the first reported measurement with a new storage ring mass spectrometery technique realized at a heavy-ion cyclotron and employing individual injection of the pre-identified rare nuclei. The latter is essential for the future mass measurements of the rarest isotopes produced at RIBF. The impact of the new $^{123}$Pd result on the solar $r$-process abundances in a neutron star merger event is investigated by performing reaction network calculations of 20 trajectories with varying electron fraction $Y_e$. It is found that the neutron capture cross section on $^{123}$Pd increases by a factor of 2.2 and $\beta$-delayed neutron emission probability, $P_\mathrm{1n}$, of $^{123}$Rh increases by 14\%. The neutron capture cross section on $^{122}$Pd decreases by a factor of 2.6 leading to pileup of material at $A=122$, thus reproducing the trend of the solar $r$-process abundances. The trend of the two-neutron separation energies (S$_\mathrm{2n}$) was investigated for the Pd isotopic chain. The new mass measurement with improved uncertainty excludes large changes of the S$_\mathrm{2n}$ value at $N=77$. Such large increase of the S$_\mathrm{2n}$ values before $N=82$ was proposed as an alternative to the quenching of the $N=82$ shell gap to reproduce $r$-process abundances in the mass region of $A=112-124$.

Dasatinib treatment markedly increases the number of large granular lymphocytes (LGLs) in a proportion of Ph+ leukemia patients, which associates with a better prognosis. The lymphocytosis is predominantly observed in cytomegalovirus (CMV)-seropositive patients, yet detectable CMV reactivation exists only in a small fraction of patients. Thus, etiology of the lymphocytosis still remains unclear. Here, we identified NK cells as the dominant LGLs expanding in dasatinib-treated patients, and applied principal component analysis (PCA) to an extensive panel of NK cell markers to explore underlying factors in NK cell activation. PCA displayed phenotypic divergence of NK cells that reflects CMV-associated differentiation and genetic differences, and the divergence was markedly augmented in CMV-seropositive dasatinib-treated patients. Notably, the CMV-associated highly differentiated status of NK cells was already observed at leukemia diagnosis, and was further enhanced after starting dasatinib in virtually all CMV-seropositive patients. Thus, the extensive characterization of NK cells by PCA strongly suggests that CMV is an essential factor in the NK cell activation, which progresses stepwise during leukemia and subsequent dasatinib treatment most likely by subclinical CMV reactivation. This study provides a rationale for the exploitation of CMV-associated NK cell activation for treatment of leukemias.

We measured the energy dependence of the total reaction cross sections (σR) for the proton-drip-line nucleus,17Ne, using a solid hydrogen target. We compared the experimental data with theoretical calculations using the Glauber model. We found that the theoretical cross sections overestimate the experimental ones in the low-energy region (∼100A MeV), whereas they significantly underestimate the experimental data in the intermediate-energy region (∼300-500A MeV). These trends are the same as those for σR for carbon-proton collisions, which were measured previously. We discuss several possibilities for resolving this discrepancy. This work demonstrates the necessity of additional careful investigations of the energy dependence of σR for various nuclei on proton targets in order to determine nuclear size properties precisely.

Changes in mRNA levels for the seven gene homologues to endoxyloglucan transferase-related protein, expansin, extensin, β-1,3 glucanase, glycine-rich protein, pectinacetylesterase and pectinesterase, which were obtained by random sequencing studies, were investigated in relation to rind development in citrus (Citrus unshiu Marc.) fruit. Expression patterns in the albedo and flavedo were classified into four types: Type-I, transcript levels low in early fruit development but increased at the ripening stage; Type-II, transcript levels high until mid-development and then decreased towards ripening; Type-III, detectable transcript limited to fruitlets at 26 days after flowering (DAF); Type-IV, ubiquitous during the development. Based on the expression patterns, we discuss the possible roles of these genes in rind development.

Dasatinib treatment markedly increases the number of large granular lymphocytes (LGLs) in a proportion of Ph

Summary Objective The aim of the current study was to examine the cartilage-specific binding property of polyarginine peptides (R4, 8, 12, and 16) and specifically to test octaarginine peptides for the optical imaging of articular cartilage in experimentally induced arthritis in mice. Methods Four rhodamine-labeled polyarginine peptides each with a different-length arginine chain (R4, 8, 12, or 16) were injected into the knee joints of C57BL/6J mice ( n =20). The joints were excised 1h later and the fluorescent signal intensity in cartilage cryosections was compared for the four peptides. To examine the substrate of R8 in cartilage, femoral condyles obtained from another set of mice were treated with chondroitinase ABC (Ch'ase ABC), keratanase or heparitinase then immersed in R8-rhodamine. Fluorescent signals were examined by fluorescent microscopy. Next, R8-rhodamine was injected into the right knee joints of three control and three collagen antibody-induced arthritis (CAIA) mice, and fluorescent intensity in normal and degenerative cartilage was semi-quantitatively analysed on the histological sections using image software. Finally, femoral condyles from normal mice ( n =2) and CAIA mice ( n =2) were immersed in R8-rhodamine and calcein, then imaged using optical projection tomography (OPT). Results Fluorescent signals were specifically detected in the cartilage pericellular matrix from the surface to the tide mark but were completely absent in the calcified layer or bone marrow. The number of arginine residues significantly influenced peptide accumulation in articular cartilage, with R8 accumulating the most. The fluorescent signal in the femoral condylar cartilage diminished when it was treated with Ch'ase ABC. R8 accumulation was significantly decreased in the degenerative cartilage of CAIA mice, and this was demonstrated both histologically and in three-dimensional (3D)-reconstruction image by OPT. Conclusion R8 may be a useful new experimental probe for optical imaging of normal and arthritic articular cartilage.

In the present paper, correlation between free polyamines and growth of peach (Prunus persica cv. Yuzora) in vitro callus was investigated. Growth of the callus was divided into three phases based on measurement of fresh weight. Free polyamines, putrescine (Put), spermidine (Spd), and spermine (Spm), could be detected during peach callus growth. Changes in free Put titers followed the callus growth rate, as shown by low and stable levels in the first stage, quick increase at the beginning of the second phase, and slow increase in the last phase, whereas fluctuations of Spd and Spm titers were aberrant from that of Put at early stage. Expressions of five key genes involved in polyamine biosynthesis were characterized, in which only the genes leading to Put synthesis, ADC (arginine decarboxylase) and ODC (ornithine decarboxylase), agreed with callus growth and fluctuation of Put titers. Treatment of the callus with D-arginine, an inhibitor of ADC, led to significant growth inhibition and enormous reduction of endogenous Put, coupled with obvious decrease of mRNA levels of ADC and ODC. Exogenous application of Put partially restored the callus growth, along with resumption of endogenous Put and expression levels of ADC and ODC. Spd and Spm titers experienced minor change in comparison to Put. The data presented here suggested that free Put played an important part in peach callus growth. Putative mechanisms or mode of action underlying the role of Put in peach callus growth and different expression patterns of the genes responsible for polyamine biosynthesis are also discussed.

Three partial S-RNase genes, MSRN-1, MSRN-2, and MSRN-3, in the Japanese apricot (Prunus mume Sieb. et Zucc.) were isolated from the three cultivars Nankou, Gyokuei, and Kairyouuchidaume, respectively. The structural characteristics revealed that S-RNase genes from the Japanese apricot were in the T2/SRNase-type S-RNase family with five conserved regions (C1, C2, C3, RC4, and C5) and one variable region (RHV) as reported in the other rosaceous plants. In the phylogenetic tree of T2/S SRNase-type RNases, three S-RNase genes of the Japanese apricot did not form a species-specific subgroup but the Prunus subfamily did. At least seven S-allelic genes were present in the Japanese apricot, and S-genotypes of six representative cultivars, including Nankou, Gyokuei, Kairyouuchidaume, Baigou, Kagajizou, and Oushuku were first established in this study as S 1 S 7, S 2 S 6, S 3 S 4, S 3 S 6, S 3 S 6 and S 1 S 5, respectively. An extended elucidation of the S-genotype would contribute to a more efficient breeding program of the Japanese apricot.

Dynamic reconstruction of the abdominal wall using a free reinnervated rectus femoris muscle and an island tensor fascia lata transfer was performed for a large herniation with loss of the bilateral rectus abdominis muscles of the abdominal wall. The tensor fascia lata transfer was used to close an inner side of the abdominal defect, and the rectus femoris muscle replaced the rectus abdominis muscle deficit. The motor nerve of the rectus femoris muscle was sutured to the motor branch of the intercostal nerve. Postoperatively, the transferred rectus femoris muscle was reinnervated via electromyography, and there was no abdominal protrusion and no hernia recurrence.

Flow-through thin latissimus dorsi perforator flaps were used in six cases with complicated defects of the legs. This flap has a small amount of latissimus dorsi muscle with a considerable amount of fatty tissue removed to make a thin flap. In addition, the flap has several branches of the subscapular vessel, which are interposed to the recipient vessels of the legs. The advantages of this thin flap are: (1) flow-through vascular reconstruction can preserve the main vessels of the damaged legs; (2) the double arterial inflows and venous drainage systems of the flap ensure safe vascularization of the flap; (3) a flow-through venous drainage system from the distal extremities can also be established to prevent congestion of the affected legs; (4) this flap is versatile (it can be either thin or large); and (5) even in emergent ischemic legs, simultaneous elevation of the flap is possible with preparation of the legs. This flow-through flap is indicated for: (1) cases with a large skin defect and obstruction of the main vessels in the leg; (2) cases with a possibility of tumor recurrence in the legs; and (3) young women or girls with a large defect in the legs, rather than the rectus abdominis musculocutaneous flap.

Free polyamine contents and expressions of five genes encoding for polyamine biosynthetic enzymes were investigated at four different stages during peach (Prunus persica L. Batsch cv. Akatsuki) flower development. Fresh mass of peach flowers increased, accompanied by reduction in contents of total polyamines and putrescine/spermidine ratio due to decrease in putrescine content. Spermidine, the largest fraction, and spermine, the least part, underwent minor change. Expressions of the five key genes involved in polyamine biosynthesis during flower development did not parallel the changes in free polyamines.

Mitotic cells from Rough lemon (Citrus jambhiri Lush.), Ohta ponkan (C. reticulata Blanco) and two somatic hybrid plants obtained from protoplast fusion were analysed by double staining with chromomycin A3 (CMA) and 4′-6-diamidino-2-phenylindole. Only CMA-positive bands were observed in metaphasic chromosomes. The two parental karyotypes (2n=2x=18) were heteromorphic, yielding some marker chromosomes that could be identified in the somatic hybrids. One of the somatic hybrids had 2n=37 chromosomes, and the possible extra chromosome was distinguishable. The second somatic hybrid was tetraploid (2n=4x=36), with one of the chromosomes bearing a putative structural alteration. Furthermore, aneusomaty and some mitotic abnormalities were also observed in this latter plant. Such irregularities are reported for the first time for citrus somatic hybrids, and their possible causes and implications are discussed.

Somatic hybrids were obtained by the symmetric fusion of embryogenic callus cells from tetraploid 'Mame' kumquat [Fortunella hindsii (Champ.) Swing.] and mesophyll cells from diploid trifoliate orange [Poncirus trifoliata (L.) Raf.]. Southern blot analysis of three regenerants revealed that they carried specific rDNA fragments from both fusion partners, thereby confirming their hybridity. In contrast, mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and chloroblast DNA (cpDNA) were unidirectionally transmitted from the callus parent without any evidence of recombination. No differences in the restriction fragment patterns of rDNA, mtDNA or cpDNA could be detected among the regenerants. Flow cytometry showed that two regenerants were hexaploids, as expected, but that one was pentaploid, probably due to elimination of chromosomes prior to the regeneration of this plant.

Double fluorochrome staining with chromomycin A3 (CMA) and 4′-6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) was used to characterize and compare the distribution of constitutive heterochromatin along chromosomes of Citrus, Poncirus and Fortunella species. Only CMA-positive bands were distinguishable in metaphase chromosomes. Preferential distribution of heterochromatin in terminal regions, mainly of the long arm, and centromeric regions of a few long chromosomes was a common feature of these genera. Heteromorphism between possible homologous chromosomes was present in the majority of species. Citrus and Poncirus revealed some remarkably uniform chromosomes without any intensively fluorescing region, whereas Fortunella cultivars were differentiated by the presence of CMA bands in all chromosomes. Through measurements assisted by a computer, amounts of CMA-positive regions were shown to be highest in Fortunella. Similarities between Citrus and Poncirus suggest little heterochromatin diversification among karyotypes of these genera, whereas Fortunella, with higher amounts and more homogenous distribution of heterochromatin, is more divergent.

The major histopathological feature of hypertrophic scar lesions is fibrosis, characterized by excessive accumulation of collagen. The purpose of this study was to determine if there is not only increased expression of collagen but also decreased expression of collagenase in hypertrophic scar fibroblasts. We compared the expression of mRNA for alpha 1 (I) and alpha 1 (III) collagen, and collagenase in cultured fibroblasts from different portions of hypertrophic scars and normal dermis. In hypertrophic scar fibroblasts, increased levels of alpha 1 (I) and alpha 1 (III) collagen mRNAs were observed in fibroblasts from the edge and outside of scar tissue, while normal levels were noted in fibroblasts from the centre of this tissue. In contrast, decreased levels of collagenase mRNA were found in the hypertrophic scar fibroblasts. The reductions were: centre (25% of the control) greater than the edge (43% of the control) greater than the outside (84% of the control). The changes in the collagenase mRNA levels of the hypertrophic scar fibroblasts correlated well with decreased collagenolytic activity as determined by the degradation rate of fluorescein isothiocyanate-labelled type I collagen in fibroblast culture supernatant. These results suggest that decreased expression of collagenase in hypertrophic scar fibroblasts may be one possible cause for the excessive accumulation of collagen in the skin lesions of hypertrophic scars.

Stimulation of the respiratory burst in mouse macrophages or human neutrophils results in the formation of disulfide bonds between low m.w. thiols and sulfhydryl groups on specific cytosolic proteins (S-thiolation). S-thiolation is reversible in certain chemical systems. The aim of the present study was to analyze the dynamic nature of this process in human monocytes under physiologic conditions. We report here that the extent of S-thiolation and the rate of respiratory burst stimulated by opsonized zymosan or phorbol diester increased for 10 to 20 min and then declined (dethiolation) in close association. Individual proteins underwent S-thiolation and dethiolation at different rates. H2O--appeared particularly effective in mediating S-thiolation, based on inhibition of S-thiolation by added catalase and accentuation by azide, which inhibits cellular catalase. S-thiolation did not occur in stimulated monocytes from patients with chronic granulomatous disease. The addition of H2O2 to monocytes or lymphocytes induced rapid S-thiolation (1 to 3 min); a subsequent dethiolation returned most of the proteins to baseline by 15 to 30 min. At 0 degrees C and after addition of 1,3-bis-(2-chloroethyl)-1-nitrosourea, there was effective S-thiolation on exposure to H2O2, but dethiolation was inhibited, suggesting a possible role for glutathione (GSH)/thioredoxin reductase systems in this process. GSH was determined to be the most abundant low m.w. thiol bound to S-thiolated proteins, but gamma-glutamylcysteine and cysteine were also bound. The time of maximal reduction in cytosolic GSH during the respiratory burst (10 min) coincided with the time at which protein-bound GSH was highest. S-thiolation-dethiolation represents a reversible post-translational modification that could protect cellular proteins from irreversible oxidative damage.

The title compounds, [n.2]metacyclophanediquinones 6a-f, were prepared by oxidation of the corresponding di-tert-butyldihydroxy[n.2]metacyclophanes 5a-f with Tl(OCOCF3)3 in CF3COOH. When [n.2]quinonophanes 6a-e were reduced with Zn powder in acetic acid, the corresponding tetrahydroxy derivatives 8a-e were obtained, which were converted to the tetraacetates 9a-e. The solution conformations of diquinones 6a-f and tetrahydroxy[n.2]MCPs 8a-e are sensitive to the chain length of the bridges. The ring inversion barriers determined by variable-temperature 1H-NMR spectroscopy decrease with increasing length of the bridges. In addition, a solvent effect on the ratio of anti to syn conformers was found to occur in tetrahydroxy[6.2]metacyclophane 8d and dihydroxy[6.2]metacyclophanes 5d, 10d, and 12d. The conformationally rigid tetraacetoxy[n.2]metacyclophanes 9 exhibit fixed „anti” and „syn” conformations. The anti and syn ratio is strongly governed by the number of methylene bridges. Thus, a anti-to-syn ratio of the tetraacetoxy[5.2]- (9c) and -[6.2]metacyclophane (9d) differing from that of the tetraols 8c and 8d was obtained. This difference is due to the ring inversion of 8c and 8d. The assignment of anti and syn conformations was confirmed by 1H-NMR analyses. The dynamics of the ring inversion is also discussed.

L10 ordered FePt alloy films with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy have been prepared by alternating Fe (001) and Pt (001) monatomic layers on MgO (001) substrates at low temperatures below 300 °C. In addition to molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) technique reported so far, ultra high vacuum compatible dc magnetron sputtering was used for the sample preparation, and the properties for sputtered films are compared with those for MBE films. When the Ar gas pressure during sputtering is equal to or higher than 5 mTorr, sharp (001) and (003) superlattice peaks have been observed in the x-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns, and the magnetization measurements show that the films are perpendicularly magnetized. However, the uniaxial anisotropy energy Ku for sputtered films is smaller than that for MBE films even when the long range order parameter estimated from the intensity ratio of the superlattice to fundamental XRD peaks is almost the same in both cases.

A search for isomeric \ensuremath{\gamma} decays among fission fragments from 345 MeV/nucleon ${}^{238}$U has been performed at the RIKEN Nishina Center RI Beam Factory. Fission fragments were selected and identified using the superconducting in-flight separator BigRIPS and were implanted in an aluminum stopper. Delayed \ensuremath{\gamma} rays were detected using three clover-type high-purity germanium detectors located at the focal plane within a time window of 20 \ensuremath{\mu}s following the implantation. We identified a total of 54 microsecond isomers with half-lives of \ensuremath{\sim}0.1--10 \ensuremath{\mu}s, including the discovery of 18 new isomers in very neutron-rich nuclei: ${}^{59}$Ti${}^{m}$, ${}^{90}{\mathrm{As}}^{m}$, ${}^{92}$Se${}^{m}$, ${}^{93}$Se${}^{m}$, ${}^{94}$Br${}^{m}$, ${}^{95}$Br${}^{m}$, ${}^{96}$Br${}^{m}$, ${}^{97}$Rb${}^{m}$, ${}^{108}$Nb${}^{m}$, ${}^{109}$Mo${}^{m}$, ${}^{117}$Ru${}^{m}$, ${}^{119}$Ru${}^{m}$, ${}^{120}$Rh${}^{m}$, ${}^{122}$Rh${}^{m}$, ${}^{121}$Pd${}^{m}$, ${}^{124}$Pd${}^{m}$, ${}^{124}$Ag${}^{m}$, and ${}^{126}$Ag${}^{m}$, and obtained a wealth of spectroscopic information such as half-lives, \ensuremath{\gamma}-ray energies, \ensuremath{\gamma}-ray relative intensities, and \ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\gamma} coincidences over a wide range of neutron-rich exotic nuclei. Proposed level schemes are presented for ${}^{59}$Ti${}^{m}$, ${}^{82}$Ga${}^{m}$, ${}^{92}$Br${}^{m}$, ${}^{94}$Br${}^{m}$, ${}^{95}$Br${}^{m}$, ${}^{97}$Rb${}^{m}$, ${}^{98}$Rb${}^{m}$, ${}^{108}$Nb${}^{m}$, ${}^{108}$Zr${}^{m}$, ${}^{109}$Mo${}^{m}$, ${}^{117}$Ru${}^{m}$, ${}^{119}$Ru${}^{m}$, ${}^{120}$Rh${}^{m}$, ${}^{122}$Rh${}^{m}$, ${}^{121}$Pd${}^{m}$, ${}^{124}$Ag${}^{m}$, and ${}^{125}$Ag${}^{m}$, based on the obtained spectroscopic information and the systematics in neighboring nuclei. The nature of the nuclear isomerism is discussed in relation to the evolution of nuclear structure.

The antioxidant properties of three garlic preparations and organosulfur compounds in garlic have been determined. Aged garlic extract inhibited the emission of low level chemiluminescence and the early formation of thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBA-RS) in liver microsomal fraction initiated by t-butyl hydroperoxide. However, the water extracts of raw and heat-treated garlic enhanced the emission of low level chemiluminescence. Among the variety of organosulfur compounds, S-allylcysteine (SAC) and S-allylmercaptocysteine (SAMC), the major organosulfur compounds found in aged garlic extract, showed radical scavenging activity in both chemiluminescence and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assays, indicating that these compounds may play an important role in the antioxidative activity of aged garlic extract.

Chemical oxidants can induce the covalent binding of low molecular weight thiols to reactive sulfhydryls on proteins (S-thiolation). We found that stimulation of the respiratory burst of human blood monocytes resulted in S-thiolation of several proteins, most prominently one of 38 kDa. This purified protein was identified as glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) by enzyme activity, immunoblotting, and amino acid analysis. After stimulation of the respiratory burst, S-thiolation of GAPDH gradually increased, and cytosol GAPDH activity decreased; so that at 60 min, GAPDH activity was reduced by approximately 40%. Activity was restored by the addition of the sulfhydryl-reducing agent dithioerythritol. H2O2 appeared to be particularly important in mediating S-thiolation during the respiratory burst. Exposure of monocytes to H2O2 induced concentration-dependent S-thiolation of GAPDH and a concomitant decrease in enzyme activity. The addition of respiratory burst stimuli to lymphocytes, which lack a full respiratory burst, had no effect on GAPDH S-thiolation or activity; but H2O2 induced S-thiolation of lymphocyte GAPDH and inhibition of enzyme activity. Stimulation of monocytes from three patients with chronic granulomatous disease resulted in no respiratory burst, S-thiolation of GAPDH, or inactivation of GAPDH activity. The thiols covalently bound to purified S-thiolated GAPDH were removed by dithioerythritol and were identified as glutathione and cysteine; glutathione was predominant. These results indicate that during the respiratory burst in monocytes, low molecular weight thiols can bind to specific cytosolic proteins, including GAPDH. It is possible that S-thiolation of cytosolic proteins serves to modulate cellular metabolic events during phagocytosis.

Magnetic domain structures and perpendicular magnetic anisotropies for L1/sub 0/-ordered FePt alloy films have been investigated. The films were prepared by alternating Fe [001] and Pt [001] monatomic layers on MgO [001] substrates at low temperatures below 230/spl deg/C. In addition to the fundamental [002] peak, [001] and [003] superlattice peaks have clearly been observed in the X-ray diffraction patterns, indicating the formation of an L1/sub 0/-ordered structure. The magnetization measurements show that all the samples are perpendicularly magnetized. Good magnetic squareness (Mr/Ms/spl sim/0.9) from the magnetization curves are obtained and highly interconnected stripe domain patterns are observed for the samples grown at Ts /spl ges/ 160/spl deg/C.

L10 ordered FePt alloy films with large magnetic anisotropy have been successfully prepared by alternating Fe(001) and Pt(001) monatomic layers on MgO (001) substrates at low temperatures below 230 °C. In addition to the fundamental (002) peak, (001) and (003) superlattice peaks have clearly been observed in the x-ray diffraction patterns for all the samples, indicating the formation of L10 ordered structure. The magnetization measurements show that all the samples are perpendicularly magnetized. Large uniaxial magnetic anisotropy (Ku=3.0×107 erg/cc) and high chemical ordering (long-range order parameter S=0.7±0.1) have been obtained even at the substrate temperature Ts=200 °C. The magnetization curves show good magnetic squareness (Mr/Ms∼0.9) for the samples grown at Ts⩾160 °C.

Reaction cross sections for stable nuclei at intermediate energies have been measured precisely and systematically. The data have been found to be reproduced nicely by the optical‐limit approximation of Glauber theory modified to include the nucleon multiple scattering effect and the Fermi‐motion effect. Applying this prescription, the nucleon density distribution of 17Ne has been studied. The surface structure of 8B and 11Be has been also studied using this prescription and hydrogen targets. Using the RIBF that has just started application to studies of exotic nuclei, neutron‐rich Ne isotopes around the Island of Inversion have been investigated through measurements of their interaction cross sections.

We have measured two‐proton momentum and angular correlations for the 23Al excited states from the 23Al radioactive beam on a 12C target at an energy of 60∼70 A MeV at the projectile fragment separator beamline (RIPS) in the RIKEN Ring Cyclotron Facility. The decay products, namely 21Na+p+p from 23Al are clean identified. The relative momentum and opening angle between two protons in the rest frame of three body decay channels demonstrate that there are some diproton emission components from 2He cluster for the excited 23Al.
