This study examines the publishing for 1,437 Korean journals classified by publisher types and disciplines. The aim of the analysis is to understand the status of the journal publishing and the level of open access in Korea. The results show that society publishers are the majority in Korea, commercial publishers predominating in most advanced countries. More than half of the Korean journals for science, technology and medicine (STM) are open access. The study explains why open access is widespread particularly in Korea and suggests the STM journals be published in English for international recognition and impact. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

It suggests that new online repositories should be set up to make currently scattered information integrated, and provide open access to it. The proposed digital platforms will improve the visibility and impact of the university journals within both the domestic Chinese and the international scholarly communities. The article presents several special issues and recently accepted papers that are scheduled to appear in the 2006 and 2007 issues of "IEEE Robotics & Automation Magazine." The March 2006 Special Issue on Climbing Robots consists of articles including "Service Climbing Robot for Personal Assistance," and "Roboclimber Versus Landslides." Other Special Issues on "Mars Exploration Rovers," "Unmanned Aerial Vehicles," "Robots at the Tipping Point: The Road to the iRobot Roomba" and "Active Versus Passive Transformations in Robotics."

The use of large-scale corpora in speech translation technology has not only brought us closer to a plateau of high-level speech translation capability within limited domains but also has broadened the scope of corpus gathering and helped to validate wider domain applications as well. At the same time, the efficient evaluation of speech translation systems has become an important issue. In this article, the authors propose a method of selecting a valid evaluation set based on error reduction of the translation paired comparison and discuss their experimental findings. This article presents instructions for authors associated with the "International Journal of Technology and Design Education." The editor-in-chief of this journal claims that this journal seeks to encourage research and scholarly writing about any aspects of technology and design education. Therefore, critical, review, and comparative studies will be particularly welcomed, as will contributions which draw upon other literatures, in order to address issues of concern to technology and design education. It is reported that Kluwer Academic Publishers prefer the submission of manuscripts and figures in electronic form in addition to a hard-copy printout. It is instructed to use a 3.5 inch diskette and the diskette should properly be labeled, giving exact details on the name of the file, the operating system and software used. For submission in LaTeX, Kluwer Academic Publishers have developed a Kluwer LaTeX class file, which can be downloaded from the Web site of the company. For reviewers, it is advised that they should place their name and affiliation on a separate page. Self-identifying citations and references in the article text should either be avoided or left blank when manuscripts are first submitted.
