Prekomjerna uporaba različitih spojeva te poticanje industrijske i poljoprivredne proizvodnje predstavljaju svakodnevne izazove za znanstvenike i inženjere. Zbog toga je posebna pažnja usmjerena prema obećavajućim naprednim oksidacijskim procesima (NOP), koji se temelje na stvaranju i korištenju reaktivnih kemijskih spojeva za razgradnju (oksidaciju i/ili redukciju) tvari koje se ne mogu ukloniti konvencionalnim oksidansima. Heterogena fotokataliza jedan je od NOP-a gdje radikali nastaju uslijed ekscitacije fotokatalizatora s fotonima s dovoljno energije za stvaranje para elektron-šupljina. Već nekoliko desetljeća titan dioksid (TiO2) je prepoznat kao učinkovit fotokatalizator, međutim njegove modifikacije dobivaju na značaju poradi povećanja fotokatalitičke aktivnosti u području vidljivog spektra. Jedna od takvih modifikacija je dodatak ugljičnih nanocjevčica (eng. carbon nanotubes, CNT). Fotokatalizatori se koriste u suspenziji ili su imobilizirani na inertnom nosaču. Premda su fotokatalizatori u suspenziji reaktivniji od imobiliziranih, uporaba imobiliziranih fotokatalizatora je isplativija. Naime, zbog veličine čestica, izdvajanje fotokatalizatora iz pročišćene vode je složen i ekonomski neisplativ proces, dok se imobilizirani fotokatalizator može upotrijebiti višekratno. Nadalje, uz odgovarajući dizajn reaktora moguće je prevladati ograničenja prijenosa mase i fotona uslijed imobilizacije. Odgovarajući dizajn fotokatalitičkog reaktora važan je poradi iskoristivosti upadnog zračenja i primjenjivosti reaktora. Među nekoliko utvrđenih optimalnih reaktorskih konfiguracija, razmotrene su dvije izvedbe: kaskadni reaktor pločastog tipa (eng. flat plate cascade reactor, FPCR) i reaktor s paraboličnim zrcalima (eng. compound parabolic collector, CPC). FPCR oponaša primjenu u prirodnom okruženju koja se može implementirati uz niske troškove. S druge strane, CPC reaktor je odabran kao „state-of-the-art” u dizajnu zbog najveće učinkovitosti zahvaćanja i usmjeravanja zračenja u sustavu reaktora. Glavni cilj ove disertacije bio je istražiti utjecaj faktora intenzifikacije na učinkovitost i primjenjivost solarne fotokatalize temeljene na razgradnji 1H-benzotriazola (1H-BT). 1H-BT je odabran kao modelno onečišćivalo u istraživanju zbog svoje široke primjene u industriji i svakodnevnom životu, a upravo zbog toga je detektiran u prirodnim vodama u koncentracijama od nano do mikrograma po litri. Dosadašnja istraživanja ukazala su na izravnu fotolizu 1H-BT-a pri UV spektru s najučinkovitijom degradacijom pri UV-C spektru zračenja. Dominantniju ulogu uklanjanja 1H-BT-a u prirodnom okolišu ima neizravna fotoliza ili reakcija s reaktivnim kratkoživućim česticama. 1H-BT je relativno dugo postojan u okolišu budući da se ne razgrađuje u vidljivom spektru zračenja. U površinskim vodama podložan je reakcijama s drugim tvarima pri čemu mogu nastati toksičniji spojevi ukoliko nema mineralizacije. Nedavna istraživanja ukazala su na važnost sudjelovanja radikala u reakcijama razgradnje 1H-BT-a. Ipak, istraživanja su također ukazala na negativan utjecaj klora u NOP-ima zbog nastajanja štetnijih produkata razgradnje po vodeni okoliš. Poradi navedenog, pozornost je usmjerena prema analizi visoke razlučivosti, osjetljivosti i točnosti detektiranja masa koju omogućuje hibridni Q-TOF LC/MS sustav analize (eng. quadrupole time of flight liquid chromatography/ mass spectrometry, kvadrupolno vrijeme leta spregnuto s tekućinskom krmatografijom i masenom spektrometrijom). Stoga, u ovoj doktorskoj disertaciji, cilj je bio istražiti kako faktori intenzifikacije, prvenstveno modifikacija fotokatalizatora, različit dizajn reaktora te upadno zračenje utječu na učinkovitost i primjenjivost solarne fotokatalize. U te svrhe postavljeni su sljedeći ciljevi: (i) razviti matematički model uzimajući u obzir upadno zračenje i brzinu apsorpcije fotona na površini fotokatalizatora (lokalnu ili globalnu) te dinamiku fluida u odabranim reaktorima kako bi se dobila stvarna brzina reakcije; (ii) odrediti mehanizme fotokatalitičke razgradnje 1H-BT-a u korelaciji s različitim pristupima intenzifikacije procesa u uvjetima neutralnog pH te (iii) predložiti optimalne parametre za primjenu fotokatalize u realnim uvjetima na temelju usporedne procjene životnog ciklusa različitih pristupa intenziviranja fotokatalize, te korištenjem sunčevog zračenja. Temeljem zadanih ciljeva, postavljene su četiri hipoteze: (H1) razgradnja 1H-BT-a s fotokatalizatorom TiO2/CNT sa simuliranom sunčevom svjetlošću učinkovitija je u usporedbi s TiO2; (H2) postojeći kinetički modeli s lokalnom volumetrijskom brzinom apsorpcije fotona mogu se modificirati i primijeniti za modeliranje razgradnje 1H-BT-a u FPCR i CPC reaktorima; (H3) fotokatalitički produkti razgradnje 1H-BT-a značajno su manje prisutni u odnosu na rezultate fotolize 1H-BT-a; i (H4) fotokataliza pri sunčevom zračenju s fotokatalizatorom aktivnim i u vidljivom dijelu spektra optimalna je za uvećanje procesa i primjenu u realnim uvjetima na temelju usporedne procjene životnog ciklusa procesa (eng. life cycle assessment, LCA). Dakle, što se tiče prve hipoteze, temeljem dobivenih eksperimentalnih podataka i smanjenja koncentracije 1H-BT-a može se zaključiti kako fotokataliza s TiO2/CNT nije učinkovitija od fotokatalize s TiO2 u oba slučaja primjene FPCR i CPC reaktora. Međutim, daljnja analiza najnovijom metodom visoke rezolucije, hibridnim Q-TOF LC/MS, omogućila je identifikaciju produkata razgradnje nastalih tijekom fotokatalize. S novim uvidom bilo je moguće primijetiti kako je modifikacija TiO2 s CNT-om pokrenula drugačiji reakcijski mehanizam u CPC reaktoru. Primjerice, uslijed raspada triazolnog prstena 1H-BT-a u sustavu se može pojaviti produkt razgradnje s istim fragmentacijskim uzorkom raspada kao 1H-BT. S druge strane, reakcijski put razgradnje 1H-BT-a u FPCR-u bio je vođen hidroksilacijom i raspadom benzenskog prstena. Veća površina imobiliziranog fotokatalizatora u FPCR-u (15,6x) u usporedbi s CPC reaktorom pokazala je da je fotokataliza površinski fenomen te je dodavanje CNT-a doprinijelo adsorpciji. S aspekta toksičnosti produkta razgradnje, adsorpcija pozitivno doprinosi budući da hidroksilirane tvari imaju nešto veći negativan utjecaj na okoliš. Stoga se može reći kako razgradnja 1H-BT-a nije nužno učinkovitija s TiO2/CNT u usporedbi s TiO2 pod simuliranim sunčevim svjetlom. Međutim, s aspekta reakcijskih mehanizama TiO2/CNT doprinosi poboljšanju fotokatalize i ekološki prihvatljivijoj fotokatalizi. Što se tiče druge hipoteze, razvijen je kinetički model s masenom bilancom te je uspješno primijenjen za razgradnju 1H-BT-a neovisno o postavkama reaktora i različitoj formulaciji fotokatalizatora. Uvođenje intrinzičkih parametara omogućilo je određivanje stvarne konstante brzine reakcije za BT (ki=3.54×10−10 s−1W−0.5m1.5) primjenjive u svim postavkama, dok je doprinos formulacije fotokatalizatora i postavki reaktora opisan odgovarajućim indeksima, Ycat=0.769 and YRD=25. Kao što je navedeno u disertaciji, 1H-BT je podložan fotolizi pod UV zračenjem, odnosno UV-C zračenju, dok to nije slučaj s UV-A i UV-B zračenjem. Međutim, pomoću fotokatalizatora i UV/vis zračenja moguće je razgraditi 1H-BT na manje štetne produkte razgradnje. Naposljetku, korištenje prirodnog zračenja poželjno je za proces razgradnje, zbog manje potrošnje energije kao i zbog većeg udjela zračenja. Stoga je određena prethodno spomenuta stvarna konstanta brzine reakcije za 1H-BT, čime je postignut prvi cilj ovog rada. Štoviše, predloženi su mehanizmi razgradnje u korelaciji s različitim procesima intenzifikacije. Naime, dok je u FPCR-u hidroksilacija dominantan reakcijski put cijepanja benzena s naglašenom adsorpcijom kada je korišten TiO2/CNT, u CPC reaktoru put razgradnje ide prema reakciji nukleofilne adicije i cijepanju triazolskog prstena. Time je postignut drugi cilj ovog rada. U konačnici, temeljem komparativne LCA, predložena je fotokataliza pod prirodnim sunčevim zračenjem kao optimalno rješenje za buduće skaliranje. Ovim radom utvrdio se utjecaj različitih intenzifikacijskih faktora na učinkovitost solarne fotokatalize. Određivanje stvarne konstante brzine reakcije omogućit će daljnja proučavanja novih fotokatalitičkih materijala i njihovu bržu implementaciju u pilot i realnim sustavima obrade otpadnih voda. Predloženi mehanizmi razgradnje 1H-BT-a omogućili su utvrđivanje toksičnog utjecaja i razmatranje uklanjanja kako 1H-BT-a tako i drugih onečišćivala i u vodenim sustavima poput podzemnih voda gdje je utvrđena pojava istih. LCA metodologija primijenjena je za proučavanje različitih fotokatalitičkih intenzifikacijskih pristupa te korištenje sunčevog zračenja u odnosu na umjetne izvore zračenja radi utvrđivanja najprihvatljivijeg s aspekta utjecaja na okoliš, što čini predloženi rad pionirskim u užem području inženjerstva okoliša. The intensive use of various compounds and the promotion of industrial and agriculture production are daily challenges for scientists and engineers. Consequently, removing micropollutants from waters has become one of humankind's priorities. Accordingly, the efforts have been directed towards promising advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) based on the generation and use of radicals, powerful chemical species for the removal (oxidation/reduction) of substances that conventional oxidants cannot remove. One of the AOPs is heterogeneous photocatalysis. Radicals are formed after photocatalyst's excitations by photons with sufficient energy for electron/hole pair generation. For several decades, titanium dioxide (TiO2) has been recognized as an efficient photocatalyst. However, modifications of TiO2 are gaining importance due to the photocatalytic intensification in the visible spectra range. One such improvement is the one with carbon nanotubes (CNT). Photocatalysts are either used in suspensions or immobilised on an inert support. Suspended photocatalysts tend to be more reactive. However, the use of an immobilised photocatalyst is more cost-effective and versatile due to the reusability issues. Namely, separating the photocatalyst from purified water is a complex and economically unprofitable process. Moreover, it is possible to overcome mass and photon transfer limitations due to immobilisation with an appropriate reactor design. Furthermore, appropriate reactor design is essential due to the usability of incident irradiation and reactor applicability. Among the few reported optimal reactor designs, two different setups were considered hereby, a flat-plate cascade reactor (FPCR) and a compound parabolic collector (CPC) reactor. The FPCR was chosen since it mimics an outdoor system application which can be implemented at a low cost. Meanwhile, the CPC reactor was selected as the state-of-the-art in design regarding its favourable properties such as the highest effectiveness of irradiation capture in the reactor system. Therefore, the main goal of this dissertation was to study the impact of the intensification factors on the efficiency and applicability of solar photocatalysis based on 1H-benzotriazole (1H-BT) degradation. The photocatalyst modification and reactor setup were selected as intensification factors. Modelled pollutant 1H-BT was chosen due to its wide application in industrial and everyday life, for which it has been detected in natural waters from nano to microgram per litre concentrations. Previous studies have proved direct photolysis of 1H-BT under UV light with the most efficient degradation in UV-C spectra. A more dominant role of 1H-BT removal in the natural environment is indirect photolysis or reaction with reactive transient species. Nevertheless, due to the insensitivity to visible light, 1H-BT is relatively long persistent in the environment. In surface waters, it is subjected to reactions with other species where more toxic compounds can be formed if there is no mineralization. Recent studies have demonstrated the importance of radicals in 1H-BT removal reactions. Yet, a negative impact was reported when chlorine was used in the AOPs due to the generation of more harmful degradation products for the aquatic environment. To avoid such a scenario, an analysis with a high mass resolution, full-scan sensitivity, and mass accuracy provided by a hybrid Q-TOF LC/MS (quadrupole time of flight, liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry) system is gaining attention in the detection of degradation products. Accordingly, the following objectives were established: (i) a development of a mathematical model including irradiation terms and a rate of photon absorption over photocatalyst surface (local or global) and fluid dynamics in chosen reactors to obtain intrinsic reaction rate; (ii) determination of 1H-BT photocatalytic degradation pathways in correlation with different intensification approaches under neutral pH conditions and (iii) proposition of optimal parameters for accurate scale photocatalytic process based on comparative life cycle assessment (LCA) of various photocatalysis intensification approaches and the use of natural sunlight. Based on the dissertation objectives, four hypotheses were formulated. The first hypothesis (H1) states that 1H-BT degradation is more effective with TiO2/CNT photocatalyst under simulated solar light than TiO2. The second hypothesis (H2) states that existing kinetic models with the local volumetric rate of photon absorption can be modified for 1H-BT degradation in FPCR and CPC reactors. The third hypothesis (H3) states that photocatalytic degradation products of 1H-BT degradation are negligible compared to ones obtained by photolysis alone. And the fourth hypothesis (H4) states that photocatalysis under natural irradiation with UV/vis intensified photocatalyst is optimal for scale-up and real-scale application based on the comparative LCA. Therefore, regarding the first hypothesis and observed experimental data of 1H-BT concentration decreasing, it could be concluded that photocatalysis with TiO2/CNT is not more efficient than photocatalysis with TiO2 in both cases when FPCR and CPC reactors were applied. However, further analysis by the newest high-resolution techniques, a hybrid Q-TOF LC/MS, enabled the identification of degradation products formed during photocatalysis. With unique insight, it was possible to identify that modification of TiO2 with CNT had triggered different 1H-BT degradation mechanisms in the CPC reactor. Also, the degradation product with the same fragmentation pattern as the 1H-BT can occur in the system due to triazole ring breakage. On the other hand, the reaction pathway of 1H-BT degradation in FPCR was governed by hydroxylation and benzene ring breakage. Furthermore, the larger surface of the immobilised photocatalyst in the FPCR (15.6x) compared to the CPC reactor demonstrated that photocatalysis is a surface phenomenon. Therefore, the addition of CNT increased adsorption. Regarding the toxicity of degradation by-products, the adsorption was favourable in the FPCR since hydroxylated species pose a slightly greater negative impact on the environment. Therefore, it can be said that 1H-BT degradation is not necessarily more effective with TiO2/CNT compared to TiO2 under simulated solar light. However, from the aspects of reaction mechanisms, TiO2/CNT contributes to photocatalysis enhancement and environmentally friendlier photocatalysis. Regarding the second hypothesis, a kinetic model with mass balance was developed and successfully applied for 1H-BT degradation independently on reactor setup and different photocatalysts formulation. The introduction of intrinsic parameters enabled the determination of the intrinsic reaction rate constant for 1H-BT (ki=3.54×10−10 s−1W−0.5m1.5) applicable in all setups, while the contribution of a photocatalyst formulation and reactor setups was described with appropriate indexes, Ycat=0.769 and YRD=25, respectively. As was discussed in the dissertation, 1H-BT is subjected to photolysis under UV, namely UV-C light, while that is not the case with UV-A and UV-B light. However, with the assistance of photocatalysts, it is possible to degrade 1H-BT using UV/vis light and obtain less harmful degradation products. And lastly, natural irradiation is favourable for the degradation process due to less energy consumption and the higher proportion of irradiation. Therefore, the constant of the intrinsic reaction rate for 1H-BT was determined by which the first objective of this dissertation was achieved. Moreover, the mechanism’s degradation pathways were proposed in correlation with different intensification processes. In the FPCR setup, hydroxylation is the dominant reaction pathway of benzene cleavage with emphasized adsorption when TiO2/CNT is used. In the CPC reactor, the degradation pathway suggested nucleophilic addition reaction and triazole separation. As mentioned, the second objective of this dissertation was achieved. Finally, based on the comparative LCA, photocatalysis under natural sunlight was proposed as the optimum for scaling. Therefore, the influence of various intensification factors on solar photocatalysis application was determined. The intrinsic reaction rate constant has enabled further studies of new photocatalytic materials and their faster implementation in pilot and real-scale treatment systems. The results contributed to the 1H-BT and other pollutants treatment considerations in other aquatic systems, such as groundwaters, and the proposed degradation pathways were suggested for a better aquatic toxicity understanding. The LCA methodology was applied to study various photocatalysis intensification approaches. The most acceptable process from the environmental point of view for scale-up was proposed to be the usage of the CPC reactor under natural sunlight.

Svako korištenje prirodnih resursa brzinom većom od sposobnosti prirode da se sama obnovi je jedan od rezultata onečišćenja zraka, vode i tla. Onečišćenje okoliša definiramo kao onečišćenje zraka, vode, tla i dr. na način da uzrokuje stvarnu ili potencijalnu štetu prirodi kao i zdravlju ljudi. Odakle nastaju problemi onečišćenja okoliša ili tko je kriv? Onečišćenje zraka nastaje kada se plinovi, čestice prašine, pare (ili dim), ili neugodni mirisi unesu u atmosferu na način koji se čini štetan za okoliš, žive organizme i biljke. Zrak je mješavina raznih plinova; poput dušika, kisika, ugljikovog dioksida, te ostalih plinova u tragovima zajedno s vodenom parom i suspendiranim krutim tvarima u obliku čestica. Praćenje kvalitete zraka važno nam je kako bi mogli kontrolirati kvalitetu zraka, ponajviše u urbanim sredinama. GIS (geografski informacijski sustav) je vrlo napredna tehnologija koja povezuje prostorne podatke s kartama što omogućuje stvaranje, analizu i prikazivanje karti onečišćenja zraka, kao i koncentracije onečišćujućih čestica u zraku. Any use of natural resources at a rate greater than nature's ability to renew itself is one of the results of air, water and soil pollution. We define environmental pollution as pollution of air, water, soil, etc. in such a way that it causes actual or potential damage to nature as well as human health. Where do environmental pollution problems come from or who is to blame? Air pollution occurs when gases, dust particles, vapors (or smoke), or unpleasant odors are introduced into the atmosphere in a way that appears harmful to the environment, living organisms and plants. Air is a mixture of various gases; such as nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other trace gases together with water vapor and suspended solids in the form of particles. Air quality monitoring is important to us in order to be able to control the air, especially in urban areas. GIS (geographic information system) is a very advanced technology that connects spatial data with maps which provides creation, analysis and visualisation of maps of air pollution, as well as concentrations of polluting particles in the air.

Planom gospodarenja otpadom od 2017.-2022. godine, centar za gospodarenje otpadom definiran je kao građevina od državnog značaja kojom se Republika Hrvatska (dalje u tekstu RH) približava odredbama Direktive o otpadu (2008/98/EZ). Do danas, u RH postoje dva Županijska centra za gospodarenje otpadom koji otpad obrađuju mehaničkim i biološkim postupcima, i koji kao jedan od izlaznih tokova otpada imaju takozvanu metanogenu frakciju pogodnu za odlaganje na bioreaktorsko odlagalište. Bioreaktorsko odlagalište podrazumijeva nakon popunjenja kapaciteta odlagališnog prostora, vlaženje ugrađenog otpadnog materijala te recirkulaciju procjednih voda (tzv. filtrata) s ciljem poticanja mikrobiološke razgradnje organske komponente otpada i proizvodnje bioplina. Očito, s geotehničkog aspekta projektiranje bioreaktorskih odlagališta predstavlja kompleksan problem. Za pravilno projektiranje i upravljanje bioreaktorskim odlagalištem neophodni su eksperimentalni podaci o geotehničkim parametrima metanogene frakcije otpada. Iz tog razloga, u okviru ove doktorske disertacije, provedeno je opsežno laboratorijsko ispitivanje geotehničkih parametara metanogene frakcije otpada. Budući da je istraživanje provedeno na materijalu proizvedenom u Županijskom centru za gospodarenje otpadom Marišćina koje se nalazi na području Primorsko-goranske županije, zbog mogućeg utjecaja turističke sezone ispitani materijal uzorkovan je izvan i unutar turističke sezone godine. Ispitivanja na materijalu uzorkovanom izvan turističke sezone (materijal A) i unutar turističke sezone (materijal B) napravljena su odvojeno kako bi se ispitao utjecaj sezonskih varijacija na sastav i mehaničke parametre otpadnog materijala. U prvom redu određene su osnovne karakteristike i osnovni geotehnički parametri otpada: prosječni sastav ispitivanog otpada po pojedinim komponentama, sastav otpada prema obliku podijeljen na 0D, 1D, 2D i 3D veličine čestica, granulometrijska analiza, utvrđen je udio organske tvari, i udio vlage. Dobiveni rezultati ovih ispitivanja, poslužili su za preliminarnu procjenu karakteristika ispitivanog materijala. Utvrđeno je da je maksimalna veličina zrna u više od 90% ispitivanog materijala manja od 25 mm, kao i da se granulometrijske krivulje dobro uklapaju u istovrsne rezultate drugih istraživača. Visok udio organske tvari, više od 50% za materijal A i B, sugerira velik potencijal za proizvodnju bioplina. Utvrđeni zatečeni udio vlažnosti nakon procesa obrade bio je manji od 20% (u odnosu na ukupnu masu), što ga čini pogodnim za odlaganje na bioreaktorsko odlagalište zbog smanjene mikrobiološke aktivnosti. Budući da se u bioreaktorskom odlagalištu očekuje pojava većih slijeganja, mogućnost njegovog predviđanja podrazumijeva točno poznavanje gustoće čvrstih čestica 𝜌𝑠, neophodne veličine za utvrđivanje početnog koeficijenta pora 𝑒0. Iz tog razloga mjerena je gustoća čvrstih čestica metanogene frakcije 𝜌𝑠, uz pomoć plinskog piknometra sastavljenog isključivo od laboratorijskih uređaja koji se tipično nalaze u geotehničkim laboratorijima. Gustoća čvrstih čestica jedno je od osnovnih svojstava materijala te se vrlo često koristi u projektnim izračunima i za predviđanje mehaničkog ponašanja materijala. Rezultati mjerenja gustoće čvrstih čestica uspoređeni su s nekoliko parametara kao što su koeficijent pora, poroznost, suha gustoća te je utvrđena njihova međusobna ovisnost. Osim plinskim piknometrom, gustoća čvrstih čestica utvrđena je i uz pomoć velikog vodenog piknometra te su rezultati mjerenja uspoređeni međusobno te s rezultatima objavljenim u literaturi. Metoda mjerenja gustoće čvrstih čestica plinskim piknometrom pokazala se kao lako dostupno, isplativo i brzo rješenje. Budući da je metoda nedestruktivna, ispitani uzorci mogu se sačuvati za daljnje analize. Ugradnjom metanogene frakcije u tijelo bioreaktorskog odlagališta u suhom stanju i kasnijim vlaženjem, potrebno je poznavati ovisnost suhe gustoće 𝜌𝑑 o vlažnosti materijala. Za tu potrebu, ispitana je mogućnost zbijanja metanogene frakcije vibro pločom te standardnim i modificiranim Proctorovim pokusom u suhom i vlažnom stanju materijala. Ispitivanjima je utvrđeno kako se procesom zbijanja materijala utegom pri određenoj energiji zbijanja, povećanjem sadržaja vlage do određene granice suha gustoća materijala 𝜌𝑑 povećava do svoje maksimalne vrijednosti 𝜌𝑑,𝑚𝑎𝑥, nakon čega se daljnjim povećanjem vlažnosti, vrijednost suhe gustoće smanjuje, neovisno o primijenjenoj metodi ispitivanja. Također su za oba materijala utvrđene i vrijednosti optimalne vlažnosti 𝑤𝑜𝑝𝑡 kod koje se postiže maksimalna suha gustoća 𝜌𝑑,𝑚𝑎𝑥. Osim maksimalne suhe gustoće, na materijalu A utvrđena je i minimalna suha gustoća 𝜌𝑑,𝑚𝑖𝑛 laganim nasipavanjem materijala u kalup standardnog volumena pod atmosferskim tlakom. Nadalje, određeni su i pripadni koeficijenti pora, odnosno kod minimalne suhe gustoće 𝜌𝑑,𝑚𝑖𝑛 izračunat je maksimalan koeficijent pora 𝑒 𝑚𝑎𝑥, dok je kod maksimalne suhe gustoće 𝜌𝑑,𝑚𝑎𝑥 izračunat pripadni minimalni koeficijent pora 𝑒 𝑚𝑖𝑛 čime je utvrđen mogući raspon zbijenosti razmatranog materijala. U funkcionalnom bioreaktorskom odlagalištu, uslijed vlaženja otpada povećava se zapreminska težina otpada, dok se efektivna naprezanja smanjuju. U odnosu na način ugradnje metanogene frakcije u tijelo odlagališta, kao i na očekivana slijeganja nakon vlaženja materijala, za kvalitetno upravljanje bioreaktorskim odlagalištem potrebno je poznavati svojstva stišljivosti metanogene frakcije u suhim i vlažnim uvjetima. U tu svrhu, proveden je edometarski pokus za nekoliko stanja materijala: za suho stanje, za vlažno stanje, za inicijalno suho stanje do određenog naprezanja, nakon čega je materijalu promijenjena vlažnost te je proveden dugotrajni edometarski pokus u kojem su mjerena slijeganja uzrokovana biorazgradnjom, uz kontinuirano praćenje temperature uzorka te postotnih udjela nastalih odlagališnih plinova u uzorku. Rezultatima edometarskog pokusa utvrđeni su parametri stišljivosti, određena je relativna deformacija materijala u svakom od navedenih stanja te je potvrđeno kolapsibilno ponašanje metanogene frakcije bioosušenoga otpada. The waste management center was according to the waste management plan from 2017-2022 year, defined as a building of national importance, which brings the Republic of Croatia (hereinafter referred to as the RC) closer to the regulations of the Waste Directive (2008/98/EZ). To date, there are two County Waste Management Centers in the RC that process waste using mechanical and biological processes, and which, as one of the waste streams, have a so-called methanogenic fraction suitable for disposal at a bioreactor landfill. A bioreactor landfill implies, after filling the capacity of the landfill space, moistening the embedded waste material and recirculating leachate (the so-called filtrate) with the aim of encouraging the microbiological decomposition of the organic component of the waste and the production of biogas. Obviously, from a geotechnical point of view, the design of bioreactor landfills is a complex problem. Experimental data on the geotechnical parameters of the methanogenic waste fraction are necessary for the proper design and management of a bioreactor landfill. For this reason, as part of this doctoral dissertation, an extensive laboratory test of the geotechnical parameters of the methanogenic waste fraction was conducted. Since the research was conducted on material produced in the County Waste Management Center Marišćina, which is located in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, due to the possible impact of the tourist season, the examined material was sampled outside and inside the tourist season. Tests on material sampled outside the tourist season (material A) and inside the tourist season (material B) were done separately to examine the influence of seasonal variations on the composition and mechanical parameters of the waste material. In the first place, the basic characteristics and basic geotechnical parameters of the waste were determined: the average composition of the examined waste by individual components, the composition of the waste according to the particle sizes 0D, 1D, 2D and 3D, granulometric analysis, the organic matter content and the moisture content were determined. The obtained results of these tests served for a preliminary assessment of the characteristics of the tested material. It was found that the maximum grain size in more than 90% of the examined material is less than 25 mm, and that the granulometric curves fit well with similar results of other researchers. The high proportion of organic matter, more than 50% for material A and B, suggests a great potential for biogas production. The moisture content found after the treatment process was less than 20% (relative to the total mass), which makes it suitable for disposal in a bioreactor landfill due to reduced microbiological activity. Since larger settlements are expected in the bioreactor landfill, the possibility of its prediction implies accurate knowledge of the density of solid particles 𝜌𝑠, the necessary parameter for determining the initial void ratio 𝑒0. For this reason, the solid particle density of the methanogenic fraction 𝜌𝑠 was measured, with the help of a gas pycnometer composed exclusively of laboratory devices that are typically found in geotechnical laboratories. The solid particles density is one of the basic properties of materials and is very often used in design calculations and for predicting the mechanical behavior of materials. The solid particle density results were compared with several parameters such as the void ratio, porosity, dry density, and their mutual dependence was established. In addition to the gas pycnometer, the solid particle density was also determined with the help of a large water pycnometer, and the results were mutually compared and with the results published in the literature. The method of measuring the solid particle density with a gas pycnometer proved to be an easily accessible, cost-effective and quick solution. Since the method is non-destructive, the tested samples can be saved for further analyses. By installing the methanogenic fraction into the bioreactor landfill body in a dry state and subsequent wetting, it is necessary to know the dependence of the dry density 𝜌𝑑 on the moisture content of the material. For this purpose, the possibility of compacting the methanogenic fraction with a vibro plate and standard and modified Proctor's test in dry and wet state of the material was tested. Tests have established that by increasing the moisture content to a certain limit, the dry density of the material 𝜌𝑑 increases to its maximum value 𝜌𝑑,𝑚𝑎𝑥, after which, with a further increase in moisture, the value of the dry density decreases, regardless of the applied test method. Also, for both materials, the values of the optimal moisture content 𝑤𝑜𝑝𝑡, at which the maximum dry density 𝜌𝑑,𝑚𝑎𝑥 is achieved, were determined. In addition to the maximum dry density, the minimum dry density 𝜌𝑑,𝑚𝑖𝑛 was determined on material A by pouring the material into a mold of standard volume under atmospheric pressure. Furthermore, the corresponding void ratios were determined, i.e., at the minimum dry density 𝜌𝑑,𝑚𝑖𝑛 the maximum void ratio 𝑒 𝑚𝑎𝑥 was calculated, while at the maximum dry density 𝜌𝑑,𝑚𝑎𝑥the corresponding minimum void ratio 𝑒 𝑚𝑖𝑛 which determined the possible compaction range of the considered material. In a functional bioreactor landfill, as a result of wetting the waste, the unit weight of the waste increases, while the effective stresses decrease. In relation to the method of installing the methanogenic fraction into the landfill body, as well as the expected settlement after wetting the material, for quality management of the bioreactor landfill it is necessary to know the compressibility properties of the methanogenic fraction in dry and wet conditions. For this purpose, an oedometer experiment was carried out for several states of the material: for a dry state, for a wet state, for an initially dry state up to a certain stress, after which the material's moisture was changed and a long-term oedometer experiment was carried out in which the settlements caused by biodegradation were measured, with continuous monitoring of the temperature of the sample and the percentage of landfill gases generated. The oedometer test results determined the compressibility parameters, relative deformation of the material in each of the mentioned states and confirmed the collapsible behavior of the methanogenic fraction of biodried waste.

U ovom diplomskom radu obrađuje se tema temperature podzemne vode priobalnih vodonosnika kao indikatora zaslanjenja. Fokus rada prvenstveno se stavlja na globalno područje, ali se bavi i našim priobaljem. Osim temperature, koja igra jaku veliku ulogu kod zaslanjenja, na njega utječu i razni antropogeni faktori kao i električna vodljivost. Kod zaslanjenja vrlo je važno spomenuti i Ghyben-Herzbergov zakon koji se temelji na odnosu razlike u gustoći slatke i slane morske vode. Isto je tako važno pratiti kako se kreću srednje godišnje temperature mora i podzemne vode koje ovise o klimatskim promjenama. Rad također prikazuje temperaturni efekt u zatvorenom prostoru pomoću laboratorijskog pokusa, odnosno preko numeričke simulacije. The master thesis deals with the topic of groundwater temperature of coastal aquifers as an indicator of salinization. The main focus of the thesis is a global area, but it also deals with our coastal area. Besides temperature, which plays an important role in the process of salinity there are also varius anthropogenic factors as well as electrical conductivity that affect it. When it comes to salinity, it is also very important to mention the Ghyben-Herzberg law, which is based on the ratio of the difference in the density of fresh and seawater. It is also important to monitor the movement of the mean annual sea and groundwater temperature, which depend on the climate change. The thesis als shows the temperature effect in a closed area using a laboratory experiment, i.e., a numerical simulation.

Krš je tip reljefa nastao otapanjem karbonatnih stijena. To su specifična geomorfološka, hidrogeološka te hidrološka područja oštrih oblika u kojem površinske i podzemne vode igraju važnu ulogu u kemijskom i erozijskom trošenju stijena. Osim što prekrivaju oko 20% ukupne svjetske kopnene površine te 50% površine Republike Hrvatske, iznimna važnost krških vodnih resursa očituje se i u tome što čine oko 25% zaliha pitke vode u svijetu. Zbog lake mogućnosti dospijevanja onečišćivala u krške vodonosnike i potencijalnog postojanja geohazarda u kršu, nepredvidivosti terena pri inženjerskim radovima te potencijalnog štetnog ljudskog djelovanja, krš je potrebno strogo zaštititi kad god je to potrebno te prije daljnjih aktivnosti dobro proučiti. Neprihvatljive antropogene aktivnosti u krškim područjima mogu ostaviti dugoročne posljedice na floru i faunu kao i na gospodarstvo što je tema ovog završnog rada. Karst is a type of relief created by the dissolution of carbonate rocks. They are specific geomorphological, hydrogeological and hydrological areas with sharp shapes in which surface and underground water plays the important role in the chemical weathering and erosion rocks. In addition to the fact that karst water resources cover about 20% of the world's total land surface and 50% of the surface of the Republic of Croatia, they are extremely important because they make up about 25% of the world's supply of drinking water. Since it is very easy for pollutants to reach karst aquifers and because of the presence of geohazards in the karst and the unpredictability of a terrain during engineering works as well as potentially harmful human activities, the karst must be strictly protected whenever is necessary and carefully studied before further activities. Unacceptable anthropogenic actions in karst areas can have long-term consequences for flora and fauna, as well as the economy, which is the topic of this master thesis.

Otpadne vode mogu se okarakterizirati kao vode u čijem sastavu se mogu naći razne štetne otopljene tvari ili disperzirane krutine. One najčešće dolaze iz kućanstva i industrije a njihovo zbrinjavanje predstavlja velike izazove u sektorima gospodarenja voda. Problematika otpadnih voda jest upravo u njihovom sastavu i posljedicama koje uzrokuju. Pročišćavanje otpadnih voda je proces koji u svojem složenom djelovanju odvaja otpad od same onečišćene vode, gdje kao produkt nastaje mulj. Radi smanjenja mogućih opasnosti za okoliš, prirodu i čovjeka potrebno je pročistiti otpadne vode do određenog stupnja prije ispuštanja u prijemnike. GIS ima veoma važnu i široku primjenu u različitim područjima. Jedna od osnovnih svrha GIS-a je pružiti dovoljno informacija za podršku raznim odlukama pa tako i u zbrinjavanju otpadnih voda. Primjena GIS-a je vrlo značajna kod modeliranja u slivovima, izrade podloga za vodoopskrbne planove, izrade podloga kod određivanja najpovoljnijih trasa za promet opasnim teretima ovisno o položaju prometnica u slivu i zaštitnim zonama i drugo. U ovom radu prikazane su neke mogućnosti korištenja GIS-a u gospodarenju otpadnim vodama gradova Križevci, Slavonski Brod i Zagreb. Wastewater can be characterized as water in which various harmful dissolved substances or dispersed solids can be found. It mostly comes from households and industry and its disposal presents a significant challenge in water management sectors. The problem of wastewater lies precisely in its composition and the consequences it causes. Wastewater treatment is a complex process that separates waste from polluted water, and which results in the production of sludge. In order to reduce possible threats to the environment, nature and humans, it is necessary to purify wastewater to a certain degree before discharging it into receivers. The GIS has a very important and wide application in different areas of society. One of the basic purposes of GIS is to provide enough information to support various decisions, including waste water management. The application of GIS is very important in modeling of watersheds, creating bases for water supply plans, creating bases for determining the most favorable routes for the transport of dangerous goods depending on the location of roads in a basin and protective zones, etc. This paper presents possibilities of using GIS in wastewater management in cities of Križevci, Slavonski Brod and Zagreb.

Kontinuirano povećavanje upotrebe pesticida u suvremenoj poljoprivredi postaje neizbježno zbog učinkovitije proizvodnje hrane i samog porasta svjetske populacije. No, s druge strane sve je veća zabrinutost javnih institucija zbog štetnosti pesticida na ljude, druge organizme (domaće životinje, korisne insekte, pčele, ptice, ribe i dr.) i njihovu bio akumulaciju u samome tlu i svim vodenim ekosustavima. Stoga je u ovom radom analizirana fotolitička i fotokatalitička razgradnja s fotokatalizatorima titan dioksid (TiO2) i nanokompozitom titan doksida i ugljikovih nanocjevčica (TiO2/CNT) imidakloprida u pilot reaktoru s paraboličnim zrcalima (eng. compound parabolic collector, CPC). Prema kinetici razgradnje prvog reda, određene su približne konstante brzine fotolitičke razgradnje imidakloprida (k=0,0058 min-1) i fotokatalitičke razgradnje imidakloprida s TiO2 (k=0,0058 min-1) i s TiO2/CNT (k=0,00934 min-1). Primjenom TiO2/CNT fotokatalizatora može se postići brža razgradnja imidakloprida za 3,6 sati, u odnosu na fotokatalitičku razgradnju sTiO2. Analizom razgradbenih produkata, utvrđena su tri (m/z=212,0585; m/z=209,0589 te m/z= 211,0745) od četiri najčešća fotolitički razgradbena produkta imidakloprida, dok je svega jedan razgradbeni spoj (m/z= 274,0518) imidakloprida utvrđen pri fotokatalitičkoj razgradnji na TiO2 i TiO2/CNT fotokatalizatorima. To ukazuje na potrebu detaljnije analize, budući da su se eksperimenti provodili pri realnim uvjetima sunčeva zračenja. The continuous increase in the usage of pesticides in modern agriculture is becoming inevitable due to more efficient food production and the increase in world population. On the other hand, harmful effects of pesticides on humans and other organisms (domestic animals, beneficial insects, bees, birds, fish, etc.) cause concerns of public institutions due to their bio accumulation effect on the soil and aquatic ecosystems. Therefore, in this paper, the photolytic and photocatalytic degradation with photocatalysts titanium dioxide (TiO2) and nanocomposite of titanium dioxide and carbon nanotubes (TiO2/CNT) of imidacloprid in a pilot reactor with compound parabolic mirrors (CPC) was analysed. According to the kinetics of the pseudo first-order degradation, the apparent rate constants of the photolytic degradation of imidacloprid (k=0.0058 min-1) and the photocatalytic degradation of imidacloprid with TiO2 (k=0.0058 min-1) and with TiO2/CNT (k=0.00934 min-1) were determined. Faster degradation (3.6 hours) of imidacloprid can be achieved using TiO2/CNT photocatalyst in comparison to the usage of TiO2. The analysis of the degradation products revealed three (m/z=212.0585; m/z=209.0589 and m/z= 211.0745) out of the four most common photolytic degradation by-products of imidacloprid, while only one degradation compound (m/z = 274.0518) of imidacloprid was determined during photocatalytic degradation on TiO2 and TiO2/CNT photocatalysts. It indicates the need for a more detailed analysis since the experiments were carried out under the actual conditions of solar radiation.

Ovaj rad objašnjava akumulaciju teških metala u proizvodima životinjskog porijekla. Opisuje način na koji se teški metali akumuliraju od njihovih izvora kroz hranidbeni lanac do konačnog proizvoda i kako utječu na ljudsko zdravlje. Napredak u industriji uzrokovao je povećanu uporabu teških metala koji lako ulaze u okoliš i onečišćuju njegove komponente. Zrak, voda i tlo poznati su rezervoari teških metala iz kojih mogu ući u hranidbeni lanac i akumulirati se prema višim razredima. Nakon što su ţivotinje kontaminirane, kontaminirani su i njihovi proizvodi, što predstavlja opasnost za ljudsko zdravlje. This paper presents the accumulation of heavy metals in animal products. It describes the way heavy metals accumulate from their source trough a food chain to a final animal product and how they affect human health. Advancements in industry have caused an increase in the usage of heavy metals which can easily enter the environment and pollute its components. Air, water, and soil are all known reservoirs of heavy metals from which they can enter food chain and accumulate toward higher ranks. After animals get contaminated so do the products derived from them which poses a threat to human health.

Test izluživanja prirodni je proces prilikom kojeg dolazi do ispiranja topivih tvari u vodi koje mogu uzrokovati onečišćenja površinskih i podzemnih voda. Kako bi došlo do procjene rizika odlagališta za zdravlje ljudi i okoliš, provodi se širok niz testova. Jedni od tih testova su laboratorijski testovi izluživanja koji se koriste za određivanje izluživanja pojedinih parametara otpada koji mogu biti potencijalno opasni pri padalinama. Zbog toga se testovi izluživanja primjenjuju u širokom spektru u gospodarenju otpada, procjeni utjecaja na okoliš i u znanstvene svrhe. Provođenje testa izluživanja od velike je važnosti ako se otpad zbrinjava na odlagalištima. Kako bi se utvrdila pouzdanost testa izluživanja kao vrsta analize otpada, u ovom radu provelo se testiranje s miješanim komunalnim otpadom uzorkovanim u Županijskom centru gospodarenja otpada Marišćina. Tijekom testiranja utvrđeno da na dobivene rezultate utječe metodologija otpada te sam sastav otpada i da se analiza ne smatra pouzdanom. A leaching test is a natural process during which water-soluble substances are washed out in water in that way they can cause pollution of surface and underground water. A wide range of tests are carried out to assess the risk landfill poses to human health and environment. One of these tests are laboratory leaching tests, which are used to determine the leaching of certain tests waste parameters that can be potentially dangerous during rainfall. For this reason, leaching tests are widely used in waste management, for environmental impact assessments and for scientific purposes. Conducting a leaching test is of great importance if waste is disposed of in landfills. In order to determine the reliability of leaching test as a type of a waste analysis, mixed municipal waste from Marišćina County Waste Management Centre was sampled and tested. During the testing, it was established that the obtained results are influenced by the methodology and the composition of the waste and that the waste analysis is not considered reliable.

Herbicidi na bazi glifosata globalno su najčešće korišteni herbicidi za suzbijanje korova. Korištenje započinje u 1970-ima sa sve većom uporabom tokom godina. Učinkovito je sredstvo protiv korova, ali uslijed činjenice da uništava i ne ciljane biljke, u početku je njegova uporaba bila ograničena i regulirana. Nakon mnogo godina ekstenzivne uporabe započela je rasprava o mogućoj toksičnosti i kancerogenosti. Daljnja istraživanja su dokazala da je česta uporaba herbicida tokom godina dovela do globalne kontaminacije i onečišćenja koja utječu na tlo, vodu i atmosferu, a samim time i na floru i faunu uključujući i ljude na način da se kontaminacija proširila na hranu i često korištene predmete poput pelena, medicinskih gaza,itd.. Europska unija je ograničila upotrebu glifosata od 15. prosinca 2022. godine. Glyphosate-based herbicide products are the most extensively used herbicides for weed control. The use of glyphosate started in the 1970s and it increased over time. It is an effective weed killer but since it also destroys non-target crops, it was initially restricted and regulated. After years of an extensive usage, their possible toxicity and carcinogenicity sparked off a debate. Further research has proved that massive use of the herbicide over time has created a global contamination and pollution that affected the soil, surface and water as well as the atmosphere, where it affects flora and fauna as well as humans because the contamination has spread to food and commonly used objects, such as diapers, medical gauze, etc. The European Union has restricted the use of glyphosate on December 15, 2022.

U ovom radu teorijski je obrađena tematika provedbe postupka procjene utjecaja zahvata na okoliš, prikazan je razvoj i širenje kroz povijest uz prikaz nekoliko znanstvenih radova raznih tematika. Isto tako napravljena je analiza provedenih postupaka procjene utjecaja zahvata na okoliš u posljednjih 5 godina na području Republike Hrvatske. Analizirane su vrste zahvata i dužina provođenja procesa i na temelju dobivenih podataka doneseni zaključci. In this paper, the topic of the implementation of the environmental impact assessment procedure is theoretically treated, presented the development and expansion throughout history along with the presentation of several scientific papers on various topics. Also, I have made an analysis of environmental impact assessment procedures carried out in the last 5 years in the Republic of Croatia. On the types of procedures and the length of the process were made an analyze with the conclusions who is based on the obtained data.

Zbog nepovoljnih uvjeta u tlu na nerazvrstanoj cesti u mjestu Putkovec, u općini Đurmanec, došlo je do pojave klizišta. U radu su opisane geofizičke i geotehničke metode istraživanja koje su korištene za istraživanje klizišta. Provedena su ispitivanja metodom geoelektrične tomografije na dva geofizička profila, te dinamičko sondiranje tla lakom udarnom sondom na osam lokacija koje su propisane programom istraživanja. Navedenim ispitivanjima dobivene su geotehničke značajke tla te parametri pomoću kojih je analizirana stabilnost kosine Bishopovom metodom. Na temelju dobivenih rezultata predloženo je sanacijsko rješenje klizišta. Unfavourable soil conditions on a side road in Putkovec, Đurmanec country, caused a landslide. This paper describes all geophysical and geotechnical methods that were used to conduct research on it.. Geoelectrical tomography on two locations and dynamic sounding of the soil with dynamic probing light on eight prescribed locations were carried out. By using the Bishops method and all of the above testing results, we got the parameters for the analysis of slope stability. Based on all of the gathered results, the remediation of the landslide was proposed.

Europska Unija u kojoj je Republika Hrvatska članica od 2013. godine pokušava spriječiti klimatske promjene na bilo koji način. Jedan od glavnih odluka u pokušaju kontroliranja zagađenja okoliša i sprječavanja klimatskih promjena je povećanje proizvodnje energije iz obnovljivih izvora energije te što više smanjiti potrošnju i gubitak energije, odnosno povećati energetsku učinkovitost objekata. Za dostizanje visoko učinkovitog objekta potrebno je uložiti podosta sredstava i posjedovati puno znanja o novim tehnologijama koje zadovoljavaju visoku učinkovitost. Kako bi se to što bolje postiglo i kako bi bilo pristupačnije, Vlada RH zajedno sa Europskom Unijom dodjeljuje potpore u obliku sufinanciranja za obnovljive izvore energije te visoko kvalitetne termo-izolacije. Kako bi energetska učinkovitost bila na što višoj razini, potrebno je primjenjivati neke od mjera kao što su visokoučinkovita termoizolacija kako bi se spriječio gubitak temperature u okoliš, učinkovito grijanje prostora u obliku dizalica topline (najučinkovitija voda- voda), iskorištavanje što više energiju sunca za proizvodnju električne energije na samom mjestu potrošnje uz pomoć solarnih elektrana na krovovima objekata. Nakon što se iskoriste sve moguće opcije za smanjenje potrošnje, i povećanje samodostatnosti, objekt postaje visokoučinkovit i samim time smanjuje svoju ukupnu potrošnju, što na posljetku ima pozitivan utjecaj na sam okoliš. The European Union, which the Republic of Croatia has been a member of since 2013, tries to prevent climate change in every possible way . One of the main decisions in the attempt to control environmental pollution and prevent climate change is to increase energy production from renewable energy sources and to reduce energy consumption and loss as much as possible as well as to increase the energy efficiency of buildings. To achieve a highly efficient facility, it is necessary to invest quite a bit of money and to have a lot of knowledge about new highly efficient technologies. In order for this to be achieved in the best possible and affordable way the Government of the Republic of Croatia, together with the European Union, awards grants in the form of co-financing mostly for renewable energy sources and high-quality thermal insulation. For energy efficiency to be at the highest possible level, it is necessary to apply some of the measures such as highly efficient thermal insulation to prevent the loss of temperature into the environment, efficient space heating in the form of heat pumps (the most efficient water-water), using solar energy as much as possible for the production of electricity at the point of consumption with the help of solar power plants on the roofs of buildings. After using all possible options for reducing consumption and increasing self-sufficiency, the facility becomes highly efficient and thus reduces its total consumption, which ultimately has a positive impact on the environment itself.

Temelj je dio konstrukcije između same građevine i tla. Plitki temelji koriste se kada je potrebno prenijeti opterećenje od objekta u temeljno tlo na način da ne dođe do sloma tla i prekomjernog slijeganja. Ponajviše se koriste kod relativno krutih tla i manjih vanjskih djelovanja. Prema obliku plitki temelji se dijele na: temelje samce, temeljne trake, temeljne ploče i temeljne roštilje. Govori se o proračunu nosivosti prema obrascima iz starih propisa iz Pravilnika 15/90 gdje su navedene opće odredbe, ispitivanje, klasifikacija i identifikacija tla, vrste opterećenja te pravila kod izvedbe plitkog temeljenja. Pojašnjen je Eurokod 7 sa razrađenim geotehničkim kategorijama, graničnim stanjima, projektnim pristupima (PP1, PP2 i PP3) te plitkim temeljima gdje je posebno objašnjeno granično stanje nosivosti s pripadajućim izrazima. U konačnici su prikazane razlike dvaju tehničkih propisa na analitičkim izrazima. Potom je obrađen numerički primjer proračuna prema Pravilniku 15/90 i prema EC7 za centrično opterećen kvadratni temelj u nedreniranim uvjetima. Foundation is a part of the construction between the building itself and the ground. Shallow foundations are used when it is necessary to transfer the load from a building to an underlying soil in such a way that soil failure and excessive settlement do not occur. They are mostly used for relatively stiff soils and minor external influences. According to the shape of shallow foundations, they are divided into: single foundations, foundation strips, foundation slabs and foundation grills. The paper presents the calculation of the bearing capacity according to the forms from the old regulations from Ordinance 15/90, where the general provisions, testing, classification and identification of the soil, types of loads and rules for the execution of shallow foundations are stated. Eurocode 7 is clarified with elaborated geotechnical categories, limit states, design approaches (PP1, PP2 and PP3) and shallow foundations, where the limit state of bearing capacity is specifically explained with associated expressions. Finally, the differences between the two technical regulations are presented in analytical terms. Then, a numerical example of calculations according to Ordinance 15/90 and according to EC7 for a centrally loaded square foundation in undrained conditions is shown.

Ambalaža je svaki proizvod koji ima ulogu zaštite i očuvanja proizvoda koji se u nju pakira. Može biti izrađena od različitih materijala ovisno o vrsti i količini proizvoda. Nakon upotrebe ambalaža se odbacuje te postaje otpad. Otpadna ambalaža predstavlja velik problem za okoliš te ju je potrebno pravilno zbrinuti i reciklirati kako bi se spriječilo njeno nepotrebno gomilanje na odlagalištima otpada. Proces zbrinjavanja otpadne ambalaže započinje sakupljanjem ambalaže u pripadajuće spremnike ovisno o materijalu od kojeg je izrađena te se reciklira i pretvara u novu ambalažu ili novi proizvod. Sva ambalaža koja se sakuplja mora biti čista budući da prisutnost zaostalih nečistoća od proizvoda koji je bio pohranjen u ambalaži može uzrokovati dodatne probleme kao što su privlačenje raznih insekata i glodavaca te stvaranje plijesni Any product that has a role of protecting and preserving a product that is packaged in it is called packaging. It can be made of many different materials depending on the type and quantity of a product. After it has been used, packaging is thrown away and it becomes waste. Waste packaging is a major problem for the environment and it needs to be properly disposed of and recycled in order to prevent it from accumulating unnecessarily at landfills. The process of disposing of packaging waste begins with the collection of packaging in appropriate containers, depending on the material from which it was made. After that it is recycled and converted into new packaging or a new product. All packaging which is collected must be clean as the presence of residual impurities from a product which was stored in it can cause additional problems since they can attract various insects and rodents and cause the formation of mould.

U ovom radu obrađena je problematika korištenja obnovljivih izvora energije i emisija nastalih njihovom uporabom. U uvodnom poglavlju i poglavlju podjele alternativnih izvora energije definiran je pojam obnovljivih izvora energije, njihova podjela i bitnije značajke te je prikazana raspodjela električne energije na globalnoj razini dobivene pomoću obnovljivih izvora energije. U poglavlju korištenja alternativnih izvora energije obrađeni su načini i tehnologije iskorištavanja obnovljivih energetskih resursa i opisani su trendovi korištenja električne energije iz obnovljivih izvora energije u Europskoj uniji. U poglavlju o emisijama iz alternativnih izvora u fazama proizvodnje korištenja i zbrinjavanja navedene su emisije životnog ciklusa vjetroelektrana i sustava koji koriste solarnu energiju. This paper deals with the issue of using renewable energy sources and the emissions resulting from their use. In the introductory chapter and the chapter which deals with the division of alternative energy sources, the concept of renewable energy sources is defined, different types and some more important features of renewable energy sources are presented as well as the distribution of electricity on a global level obtained by using them. In the chapter which deals with the use of alternative energy sources, methods and technologies of using renewable energy resources are discussed and trends in the use of electricity from renewable energy sources in the European Union are described. In the chapter which deals with the emissions from alternative sources in the phases of production, use and disposal, the life cycle emissions of wind farms and systems that use solar energy are listed.

Metode imobilizacije vrlo su korisne za postavljanje željenih fotokatalizatora na određene površine ili tvari. Tretirane površine ili tvari nakon imobilizacije dobivaju novu primjenu; kao što je na primjer fotokatalitički aktivna površina. Postoje mnoge metode imobilizacije, a jedna od najpristupačnijih i najefikasnijih je sol-gel metoda. Fotokatalizatori se mogu imobilizirati na raznim površinama i materijalima pa tako i na recikliranoj gumi. Rezultati djelovanja fotokatalizatora ozračenih sunčevom svjetlošću mogu se koristiti za pročišćivanje otpadnih voda, otpadnih plinova i stvaranje samočiščujućih površina. Najkorišteniji i najpopularniji fotokatalizator je titanijev dioksid zbog niske cijene, netoksičnosti i mnogih drugih karakteristika. Fotokatalizatori se mogu primjenjivati zasebno te se mogu nadograđivati raznim procesima (doping, co-doping). Fotokataliza je proces koji je našao široki spektar primjene s raznim materijalima i učincima. Proces se temelji na ozračivanju površina određenim spektrom zračenja (najčešće sunčevim spektrom) koje su obložene određenim fotokatalizatorima koji pospješuju tj. ubrzavaju te reakcije te ih čine učinkovitijima. Cilj ovog rada je dokazivanje efikasnosti i pristupačnosti korištenja sol-gel metode za imobilizaciju fotokatalizatora, u ovom slučaju titanijevog dioksida, na određenim površima tj. recikliranoj gumi (polimeru). Immobilization methods are very useful for placing desired photocatalysts on certain surfaces or substances which get a new application after immobilization, for example a photocatalitically active surface. There are a lot of immobilization methods, but the sol-gel method is the most efficient and accessible one. Photocatalysts can be immobilized on various surfaces and materials, even on recycled rubber. The results of an irradiated photocatalyst activity can be used for waste water or waste gas purifying and also for the creation of self-cleaning surfaces. The most used and the most popular photocatalyst is titanium dioxide due to its low cost, non-toxicity and a lot of other characteristics. Photocatalysts can be applied separately and they can be upgraded by various processes (doping, co-doping). Photocatalysis is a process that has a wide range of applications with various materials and effects. The process is based on the irradiation of surfaces with a certain spectrum of radion (mostly the solar spectrum), where the surfaces are coated with certain photocatalyst materials which promote or speed up these reactions, and in the same time make them more efficient. The goal of this paper is to prove the efficiency and accessibility of using the sol-gel method for the immobilization of photocatalysts, in this case titanium dioxide on certain surfaces, i.e., on recycled rubber (polymer material).

Volumetrijske metode pripadaju skupini kvantitativnih analitičkih metoda. Takve metode temeljenje su na mjerenju utrošenog volumena otopine reagensa poznate koncentracije (titrant) koji je potreban da bi se odvila potpuna reakcija s analiziranom tvari (analit). Takav postupak mjerenja naziva se titracija, te se volumetrijske metode često nazivaju i titrimetrijske metode. Reakcije na temelju kojih se provode mjerenja u volumetriji moraju biti brze, ireverzibilne, stehiometrijski definirane, osjetljive i specifične. Vrlo je važno da u točki ekvivalencije nastane uočljiva promjena kemijskih i fizikalnih svojstava otopine, budući da ona služi za zaustavljanje titracije. Tvari koje se koriste za uočavanje završne točke titracije nazivaju se indikatori. To su tvari koje moraju obojiti titriranu otopinu i kod vrlo niskih koncentracija. Analit se određuje pomoću standardnih otopina točno poznate koncentracije. Standardne tvari dijele se na primarne ili sekundarne standarde ovisno o njihovim svojstvima. Ovisno o vrsti kemijske reakcije, volumetrijske metode možemo podijeliti na kiselo-bazne titracije, redoks titracije, taložne titracije te kompleksometrijske titracije. Kiselo-bazne titracije osnivaju se na reakcijama između baza i kiselina, a nazivaju se i neutralizacijske titracije. Redoks titracije temeljene su na kemijskim reakcijama oksidacije i redukcije u kojim se izmjenjuju elektroni. Kod taložnih titracija, prilikom reakcije standardne otopine i reagensa formira se teško topljiv talog, dok su kompleksometrijske titracije temeljene na reakcijama stvaranja kompleksa. Volumetric methods belong to a group of quantitative analytical methods. Such methods are based on the measurement of the used volume of a reagent solution of a known concentration (titrant), which is required for a complete reaction with the analysed substance (analyte). Such a measurement procedure is called titration, and volumetric methods are often called titrimetric methods. The reactions on the basis of which measurements are carried out in volumetrics must be fast, irreversible, stoichiometrically defined, sensitive and specific. It is very important that a noticeable change in the chemical and physical properties of the solution occurs at the equivalence point, since it serves to stop the titration. Substances used to observe the end point of titration are called indicators. These are substances that must colour the titrated solution even at very low concentrations. The analyte is determined using standard solutions of an exactly known concentration. Standard substances are divided into primary or secondary standards depending on their properties. Depending on the type of a chemical reaction, volumetric methods can be divided into acid-base titrations, redox titrations, precipitation titrations and complex metric titrations. Acid-base titrations are based on reactions between bases and acids, and are also called neutralization titrations. Redox titrations are based on chemical reactions of oxidation and reduction in which electrons are exchanged. In precipitation titrations, during the reaction of a standard solution and a reagent, a hardly soluble precipitate is formed, while complex metric titrations are based on complex formation reactions.

Dušikovi oksidi, koji su ponajviše produkt izgaranja fosilnih goriva, imaju štetan učinak na ekosustave, ozonski omotač te uzrokuju respiratorne bolesti kod ljudi. Najviše koncentracije izmjerene su u urbanim područjima, posebice pokraj velikih prometnica. Fotokataliza se pokazala kao jedna od najboljih metoda za uklanjanje onečišćivala iz zraka i vode, a posebno je popularna solarna fotokataliza jer je za pokretanje reakcija potrebno samo sunčevo zračenje. Cilj ovog rada je ispitivanje fotokatalitičke razgradnje dušikovih oksida u CPC (Compound parabolic collector) reaktoru u kojem su postavljene reciklirane gumene podloge na koje je nanesen titan dioksid (TiO2) sol gel metodom. Provedeni su eksperimenti u praznom CPC reaktoru, CPC reaktoru s referentnim gumenim podlogama te s gumenim podlogama na koje je nanesen TiO2 u mraku i pod UV zračenjem. Provedenim eksperimentima dokazana je fotokatalitička aktivnost TiO2 na recikliranim gumenim podlogama za uklanjanja dušikovih oksida iz struje zraka. Nitrogen oxides, which are mostly the product of fossil fuels combustion, have a harmful effect on ecosystems, the ozone layer and cause respiratory diseases in people. The highest concentrations were measured in urban areas, especially near major roads. Photocatalysis has proven to be one of the best methods for removing pollutants from air and water and solar photocatalysis is particularly popular because only sunlight is needed to initiate the reaction. The aim of this work is to examine the photocatalytic decomposition of nitrogen oxides in a CPC (Compound parabolic collector) reactor in which recycled rubber tiles were placed on which titanium dioxide (TiO2) had been put by using a sol – gel method. Experiments were carried out in an empty CPC reactor, a CPC reactor with reference rubber tiles and with rubber tiles on which TiO2 was put without the presence of light and under UV radiation. The conducted experiments proved the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 on recycled rubber tiles for the removal of nitrogen oxides from the air.

Gospodarenje otpadom jedan je od gorućih problema današnjice. Cilj ovog rada je prikazati utjecaj povećanja odvojeno sakupljenog otpada na sakupljačku infrastrukturu, i to u vidu potrebnog broja odvoza i financijskog okvira za ostvarenje istog. U drugom i trećem poglavlju dana je osnovna podjela otpada po mjestu nastanka te po svom sastavu, kao i općeniti prikaz sastava komunalnog otpada. U četvrtom poglavlju opisano je trenutno stanje u Republici Hrvatskoj, s naglaskom na strategiju zbrinjavanja miješanog komunalnog otpada u županijskim centrima uz opis tehnologije koja se u njima koristi. Također, dan je prikaz trenutnog stanja u gradu Zadru, i to broj korisnika, broj i tip spremnika u upotrebi, trenutna dinamika odvoza otpada po vrstama (miješani i reciklabilni), vozni park Čistoće te količine prikupljenog otpada. U analizi su korišteni podaci dostavljeni od Čistoće Zadar, a kao pomoć pri provođenju izračuna korišten je MS Excel. Kreirana su dva modela, čiji su rezultati prikazani grafički. Naposlijetku je iz modela izveden zaključak te predložen najoptimalniji smjer djelovanja. Waste management is one of the biggest problems we face today. The aim of this paper is to show the impact of the increase in separately collected waste on the collection infrastructure in terms of the required number of collections, as well as the financial framework needed for its implementation. In the second and third chapters, the basic categorisation of waste according to place of its origin and its composition is given, as well as a general description of the composition of municipal waste. In the fourth chapter, the current situation in the Republic of Croatia is described, with the emphasis on mixed municipal waste disposal strategy in county centers, along with a description of the technology used in them. The current situation in Zadar is also shown, namely the number of users, the number and type of containers which are used, the current dynamics of waste collection based on the type of waste (mixed and recyclable), the fleet of trucks and the amount of collected waste. The data provided by Čistoća Zadar were used in the analysis, and MS Excel was used for the calculations. Two models were created, the results of which are shown graphically. Finally, a conclusion was drawn from the models and the most optimal course of action was proposed.

Električni i elektronički otpad sastoji se od puno vrsta različitih materijala. Takvi se materijali mogu zasebno odvajati i na posljetku reciklirati. U radu je opisana što je i gdje se u svijetu ova vrsta otpada najviše proizvodi, sastavni dijelovi pojedinih uređaja koji su svrstani u 6 različitih kategorija otpadne električne i elektroničke opreme te procesi za gospodarenje te vrste otpada. Objašnjena je produžena odgovornost proizvođača te njezini zadaci i ciljevi.U radu su razrađeni kriteriji ekomodulacije i recikličnosti EE proizvoda kao alat za postizanje ciljeva kružnog gospodarstva kroz sustav proširene odgovornosti proizvođača. Electrical and electronic waste consists of many types of different materials. Such materials can be separated separately and eventually recycled. The paper describes what and where in the world this type of waste is produced the most, the components of individual devices that are classified into 6 different categories of waste electrical and electronic equipment and processes for managing this type of waste. Extended producer responsibility and its tasks and objectives are explained.The paper elaborates the criteria of ecomodulation and recyclability of EE products as a tool for achieving the goals of the circular economy through the system of extended producer responsibility.

Površinski aktivne tvari ili tenzidi su organski spojevi koji se prema naboju dijele na anionske, kationske, neionske i amorfne. Sastojak su raznih proizvoda za higijenu i dezinfekciju, te se pojavljuju u sastavu deterđenata za pranje i imaju veliku primjenu u kućanstvima i industriji. Ponašaju se kao emulgatori, dezinficijensi, sredstva za pjenjenje, pranje i odmašćivanje te djeluju biocidno. Ubrzana industrijalizacija, porast životnog standarda te rast proizvodnje električnih vozila glavni su uzroci povećane potražnje za tenzidima. Zbog masovne upotrebe, njihov negativan utjecaj primijećen je u svim aspektima okoliša i u živim organizmima. Lako se akumuliraju u sediment, tlo, floru i faunu. Pjene se i smanjuju površinsku napetost na granici faza i time sprječavaju izmjenu kisika. Zbog svega navedenog potrebno ih je pratiti i kontrolirati, ne samo u okolišu već i kroz kontrolu kvalitete u industriji. Analitičke analize za utvrđivanje tenzida u okolišu su titracijske metode (vizualne i potencimetrijske), spektrofotometrijske (MBAS, engl. Methylene blue active substances), turbidimetrijske i kromatografske metode te instrumentalizirane metode poput analize s injektiranjem u protok (FIA, engl. Flow injection analysis). Svaka od navedenih metoda ima određene prednosti i nedostatke koji se navode i komentiraju u ovom radu. Surface-active substances or surfactants are organic compounds that are divided into anionic, cationic, nonionic and amorphous compounds according to their charge. They are used as ingredients in various products for hygiene and disinfection, they appear in the composition of washing detergents and they are widely used in households and industry. Surfactants act as emulsifiers, disinfectants, foaming, washing and degreasing agents and they have a biocidal effect. Accelerated industrialization, better living standardand an increase in the production of electric vehicles are the main causes of the growing demand for surfactants. Due to their massive use, their negative impact has been observed in all the aspects of the environment and in living organisms. They easily accumulate in sediment, soil, flora and fauna. They foam and reduce the surface tension at the phase boundary and thus prevent the exchange of oxygen. Because of all of this, it is necessary to monitor and control them, not only in the environment but also through quality control in industry. Analytical analyses for the determination of surfactants in the environment include titration methods (visual and potentiometric), spectrophotometric (MBAS, English Methylene blue active substances), turbid imetric and chromatographic methods, and instrumented methods such as an analysis with a flow injection (FIA, English Flow injection analysis) ). Each of the mentioned methods has certain advantages and disadvantages, and they are presented and discussed on in this paper.

Crpilište Novljanska Žrnovnica se nalazi u uvali Žrnovnica u blizini grada Novog Vinodolskog te se koristi za vodoopskrbu okolnih gradova i naselja. Slivno područje izvorišnog sustava je izgrađeno od karbonatnih i klastičnih stijena i prisutni su svi elementi koji karakteriziraju geološku građu Dinarida. Za vrijeme ljetnih mjeseci je vrlo dobro razvijen turizam te su potrebe za pitkom vodom veće u odnosu na ostatak godine. Stoga je sustav spojen sa vodoopskrbnim sustavom grada Rijeke zbog stabilnosti sustava te zbog mogućnosti opskrbe vodom u tim razdobljima. Prekomjernim crpljenjem podzemne vode se razina vode spušta u odnosu na prirodno stanje vodonosnika te se time mijenjaju ravnotežni uvjeti. Kao posljedica toga dolazi do pomicanja granice slane vode prema gornjim dijelovima vodonosnika u kojem su prethodno vladali slatkovodni uvjeti. Taj problem uočen je još davnih sedamdesetih godina koji se pokušao riješiti ugradnjom injekcijske zavjese koja bi spriječila kontakt slatke i slane vode. Kasnije, su rađena hidrogeološka istraživanja kojima je cilj bio usmjeriti se na mogućnosti dobivanja većih crpnih količina vode uz manje tehničke zahvate na crpilištu. Dobiveni su pozitivni rezultati u smislu usmjeravanja radova prema izvedbi novih kaptažnih zahvata u blizini već postojećih te je napuštena ideja o proširenju i produbljenju injekcijske zavjese. The Novljanska Žrnovnica pumping station is located in the Žrnovnca bay near the town of Novi Vinodolski, and it supplies water needs of the surrounding towns and villages. The catchment area is made of carbonate and clastic rocks and it has all the geological characteristics of of the Dinarides. During the summer months tourism booms and the need for drinking water is higher in comparison to the rest of the year. For this reason the system is connected to the water supply system of the town of Rijeka due to its stability and the possibility of water supply during this period. Excessive pumping of groundwater lowers the water level in relation to the natural state of an aquifer and thus changes the equilibrium conditions. Consequently, the salt water boundary shifts towards the upper parts of the aquifer where freshwater conditions previously prevailed. This problem was noticed back in the seventies and an attempt was made to solve it by installing an injection curtain that would prevent the contact between fresh and salt water. Later on, hydrogeological research was carried out with the aim of obtaining larger pumping quantities of water with fewertechnical interventions at the pumping station. Positive results were obtained in terms of directing the work towards the implementation of new catchment interventions in the vicinity of the existing ones and the idea of widening and deepening the injection curtain was abandoned.

Trajnu denivelaciju terena potrebno je osigurati stabilnom geometrijom kosine ili izvedbom potpornog zida. U radu je dan prikaz rješenja osiguranja denivelacije uporabom armirano betonskih potpornih zidova s naglaskom na T oblik presjeka. Armirano-betonski potporni zid je tip potporne konstrukcije, gdje se pravilnim odabirom dimenzija i količine armature postiže optimalno rješenje. U radu je prikazana podjela potpornih konstrukcija prema nekoliko kriterija, te je prikazan način njihova dimenzioniranja. Optimalan odabir dimenzija potporne konstrukcije nastaje kao posljedice provedbe odgovarajućih proračuna, odnosno analize graničnih stanja sloma i uporabivosti same konstrukcije i temeljnog tla. Eurokod je jedinstveni sustav normi za projektiranje građevinskih konstrukcija koji je razvijen u Europi. Eurokod 7, koji je sastavni dio cijelog sustava, odnosi se na geotehničko inženjerstvo. Generalni pristup proračunima sastoji se u primjeni parcijalnih koeficijenata sigurnosti na vanjska djelovanja, materijal i otpornost. U radu je dan numerički primjer izgradnje potpornog zida u Kostrena Barbara, Bakar. Statički proračun potpornog zida uključuje analizu relevantnih graničnih stanja gravitacijskog zida - nosivost temeljnog tla, globalnu stabilnost, prevrtanje i klizanje zida, te njegovo dimenzioniranje, odnosno određivanje potrebne armature. Permanent leveling of a terrain must be ensured by a stable slope geometry or the construction of a retaining wall. The master thesis presents a solution for ensuring leveling using reinforced concrete retaining walls with an emphasis on a T - shaped profile. Reinforced concrete retaining wall is a type of a supporting structure where the correct choice of dimensions and amount of reinforcement achieve the optimal solution. The master thesis presents the division of supporting structures according to several criteria and shows the method of their sizing. The optimal selection of the dimensions of a supporting structure is a resultof the implementation of appropriate calculations, i.e. the analysis of the boundary conditions of a failure and the usability of a structure and a foundation soil. Eurocode is a unique system of standards for the design of building structures which has been developed in Europe. Eurocode 7, which is an integral part of the whole system, refers to geotechnical engineering. The general approach to calculations consists of applying partial safety coefficients to external actions, material and resistance. The master thesis presents a numerical example of the construction of a retaining wall in Kostrena Barbara, Bakar. Static calculation of the retaining wall includes the analysis of the relevant boundary conditions of the gravity wall - bearing capacity of the foundation soil, global stability, overturning and sliding of the wall and its sizing, i.e. determining the required reinforcement.

U radu je dan prikaz metoda pouzdanosti koje se u inženjerstvu koriste za procjenu pouzdanosti konstrukcija, te njihova primjena na nekoliko geotehničkih problema. U prvom dijelu rada dan je osvrt na varijabilnost tla, koja je jedan od glavnih uzroka neizvjesnosti u geotehničkim analizama. U analizama pouzdanosti, geotehnički parametri tretiraju se kao slučajne varijable, što zahtijeva poznavanje podataka o njihovim statističkim značajkama. Na taj su način uzete u obzir neizvjesnosti koje proizlaze iz različitih izvora, kao npr. prirodna varijabilnost tla, pogreške transformacijskih modela i slično. Za većinu geotehničkih parametara u literaturi dostupni su podaci o njihovim statističkim razdiobama, tipičnim srednjim vrijednostima i koeficijentima varijacije, što omogućuje provedbu analiza pouzdanosti u slučaju nedovoljnog broja podataka iz rezultata istražnih radova. Pitanje varijabilnosti tla i njenog utjecaja na rezultate geotehničkih analiza prepoznato je i u normi Eurokod, stoga je u radu dan osvrt na navedeno. Opisan je pojam indeksa pouzdanosti, koji se koristi kao mjera pouzdanosti konstrukcija. Uz to, njegova primjena moguća je i za kalibraciju parcijalnih faktora djelovanja, materijala i otpornosti propisanih u normi Eurokod. U radu su opisane i primijenjene dvije metode pouzdanosti, analitička metoda FORM i simulacijska metoda Monte Carlo. Provedeno je niz analiza pouzdanosti s varijacijama geometrijskih karakteristika i koeficijenata varijacije dominantnih geotehničkih parametara. Za odabrane geotehničke probleme analizirana je konvergencija metode Monte Carlo, pogreška metode FORM i utjecaj koeficijenta varijacije na veličinu indeksa pouzdanosti. Sve analize u ovom diplomskom radu provedene su korištenjem programskog jezika Python i knjižnice otvorenog koda Pystra. Pokazano je da u svim razmatranim primjerima metoda FORM ima zadovoljavajuću točnost, te da koeficijent varijacije ima značajan utjecaj na indeks pouzdanosti, radi čega je potrebno obratiti posebnu pozornost prilikom utvrđivanja njegove vrijednosti. The master thesis presents reliability methods which are used in engineering to assess the reliability of structures, and their application to several geotechnical problems. The first part of the paper reviews soil variability, which is one of the main causes of uncertainty in geotechnical analyses. In reliability analyses, geotechnical parameters are treated as random variables, which requires knowledge of data on their statistical characteristics. In this way, uncertainties arising from different sources are taken into account, such as natural soil variability, errors of transformation models and the like. For most geotechnical parameters in the literature, data on their statistical distributions, typical means and coefficients of variation are available, which allows the implementation of reliability analyses in case of insufficient data from the results of research. The issue of soil variability and its impact on the results of geotechnical analyzes is also recognized in the Eurocode standard, so the paper gives an overview of that.. The notion of reliability index, which is used as a measure of structural reliability, is described. In addition, its application is possible for the calibration of partial factors of action, materials and resistance prescribed in the Eurocode standard. Two reliability methods are described and applied in the paper, the FORM analytical method and the Monte Carlo simulation method. A series of reliability analyses with variations of geometric characteristics and coefficients of variation of dominant geotechnical parameters were performed. For selected geotechnical problems, the convergence of the Monte Carlo method, the error of the FORM method, and the influence of the coefficient of variation on the magnitude of the reliability index were analysed. All the analyses which are presented in the thesis were conducted by using the Python programming language and the Pystra open source library. It can be concluded that in all considered examples the FORM method had satisfactory accuracy, and that the coefficient of variation had a significant impact on the reliability index, which is why it is necessary to pay special attention when determining its value.

Posmična čvrstoća je najveće posmično naprezanje koje tlo može podnijeti pri slomu. Jedan od bitnih parametara posmične čvrstoće je kut unutrašnjeg trenja koji se određuje u laboratoriju. Osim laboratorijskih ispitivanja kut unutrašnjeg trenja može se pretpostaviti pomoću postojećih korelacija, kao što je indeks plastičnosti. Tema završnog rada je analiza kuta vršnog unutrašnjeg trenja i odnosa indeksa plastičnosti. Za analizu su korišteni rezultati mjerenja uzoraka na Geotehničkom fakultetu u Varaždinu. Sva mjerenja vršena su na uređaju za izravni posmik s konstantnom deformacijom. Ispitan je velik broj uzoraka glinovita tla različitog indeksa plastičnosti. Indeks plastičnosti izračunat je kao razlika granice tečenja i granice plastičnosti koje se dobivaju laboratorijskim testovima. Uzorkovanje i ispitivanje materijala provedeno je u periodu od zadnjih 20 godina, a materijal je pretežito sa lokacija kontinentalne Republike Hrvatske. Osim analize uzoraka, objašnjeni su osnovni pojmovi bitni za analizu i napravljen je kratki osvrt na postojeća istraživanja. Provedena ispitivanja i rezultati mjerenja potvrđuju pretpostavljenu slabu negativnu korelaciju parametara kuta unutrašnjeg trenja i indeksa plastičnosti koju su dobili i mnogi drugi istraživači, poput Ortolana i Mihalineca. Slaba korelacija ovakvog tipa nedovoljna je za provođenje daljnjih analiza ili izvođenje kvalitetnih zaključaka o tlu, ali može pomoći kao dodatan alat u preliminarnim analizama i pretpostavkama o tlu. The soil shear strength is the maximum shear stress that a soil can withstand during its breakdown. One of the important parameters of shear strength is a peak friction angle which is determined in a laboratory. In addition to laboratory tests, the angle of internal friction can be assumed by using existing correlations, such as a plasticity index correlation. The topic of the bachelor thesis is the analysis of the relationship between a peak friction angle and a plasticity index. The results of measuring samples at the Faculty of Geotechnical Engineering in Varaždin were used for the analysis. All measurements were performed on a direct shear device with constant deformation. A lot of clay soil samples of different plasticity indexes were examined. The plasticity index was calculated as the difference between the liquid limit and the plasticity limit obtained by laboratory tests. Sampling and testing of materials has been carried out during the last 20 years, and the material has been taken mostly from the locations in the continental Republic of Croatia. In addition to the analysis of the samples, the basic concepts important to the analysis were explained and a brief review of the existing research was made. The performed tests and measurement results confirmed the assumed weak negative correlation between the parameters of a peak friction angle and a plasticity index which were obtained by many other researchers, such as Ortolan and Mihalinec. A weak correlation of this type is insufficient to conduct further analyzes or draw certain conclusions about a soil, but it can help as an additional tool in preliminary analyzes and assumptions about it.

Cilj ovog istraživanja je analiza vegetacijskog pokrova Varaždinske županije upotrebom metoda strojnoga učenja. Izdvojene su najčešće korištene metode strojnoga učenja kod analize vegetacijskog pokrova kroz raspoznavanje uzoraka i dubinsku analizu podataka. Rad daje pregled značajnih i najvažnijih satelitskih misija za snimanje Zemljine površine koje omogućuju prikupljanje i upotrebu satelitskih snimaka visoke i vrlo visoke rezolucije. U radu su korištene Sentinel-2 snimke područja Varaždinske županije. Analizirana su u 4 različita vremenska razdoblja između 2015. i 2021. godine, a za obradu satelitskih snimaka, klasifikaciju i naknadne analize korišteni su programi otvorenoga koda SAGA-GIS i QGIS. Na kraju je provedena analiza vegetacijskog pokrova pomoću vegetacijskog indeksa NDVI nakon čega su prikazani rezultati i doneseni zaključci o promjenama vegetacijskog pokrova na promatranom području. Rezultati metode potpornih vektora ukazuje da se vegetacijski pokrov na području Varaždinske županije smanjio za 12,94% u roku od 6 godina. Metoda slučajne šume pokazuje slične rezultate sa smanjenjem od 10,55%, dok klasifikator maksimalne vjerojatnosti pokazuje smanjenje za 8,42%. Rezultati NDVI pokazuju smanjenje vrlo visoke pokrivenosti vegetacijom za 10%. Zaključak ovog rada je da su veći uzorci uzeti za šume, nisku vegetaciju i vode omogućili bolju klasifikaciju dok su manji uzorci oranica i izgrađenog područja dali lošiju klasifikaciju tih klasa na promatranom području. Najboljom metodm pokazao se klasifikator maksimalne vjerojatnosti s najtočnijim i najpreciznijim rezultatima klasifikacije svih klasa, a sve metode pokazale su se vrlo dobre za analizu vegetacijskog pokrova na promatranom području. The aim of this research is to analyse the vegetation cover of Varaždin County using machine learning methods. The most commonly machine learning methods used in the analysis of vegetation cover through pattern recognition and in - depth data analysis were singled out. The paper provides an overview of the significant and most important satellite missions for imaging of the Earth 's surface that have enabled the collection and use of high and very high resolution satellite imagery. Sentinel-2 images of Varaždin County area were used in this paper. They were analysed in 4 different time periods between 2015 and 2021, and for the processing of satellite images, their classification and subsequent analyses open source programs SAGA-GIS and QGIS were used. Finally, the analysis of vegetation cover was performed using the vegetation index NDVI, after which the results were presented and a conclusion was reached on changes in vegetation cover in the observed area. The results of the support vector machines show that the vegetation cover in Varaždin County area has decreased by 12.94% within 6 years. A random forest shows similar results with a reduction of 10.55%, while the maximum likelihood classifier shows a reduction of 8.42%. The NDVI results show a 10% reduction in very high vegetation cover. The conclusion of this paper is that larger samples taken for forests, low vegetation and water allowed better classification, while smaller samples of arable land and built-up areas gave worse classification of these classes in the observed area. The best method was the maximum likelihood classifier with the most accurate and precise classification results for all classes, and all the methods proved to be very good for analysing the vegetation cover in the observed area.

Otkopavanje stijenske mase može se izvoditi miniranjem ili mehaničkim načinom. Mehaničko otkopavanje podrazumijeva metode kao što su rijanje, kopanje, razbijanje, i rezanje. Strojevi koji se koriste za mehaničko otkopavanje su: bageri, dozeri i strojevi s rotirajućom reznim elementima. Odabir metode koja će se koristiti ovisi o značajkama stijenske mase i utjecaju izvedbe samog iskopa na okoliš. Zbog negativnog utjecaja na okoliš, za miniranje se sve češće traže alternative u metodama mehaničkog otkopavanja. Pokazatelj dobro odabrane metode otkopavanja je dobivena željena fragmentacija otkopanog materijala, uz minimalan utjecaj na okoliš. Najvažnije značajke koje utječu na ponašanje stijenskog materijala kod otkopavanja su jednoosna tlačna čvrstoća intaktne stijene i razmak diskontinuiteta unutar stijenske mase. Osim značajki stijenske mase, kod planiranja iskopa stijenske mase potrebno je poznavanje osnova mehanike loma, jer se lom stijene temelji na linearno elastičnoj mehanici loma. Rock mass excavation can be performed by blasting or mechanically. Mechanical excavation involves methods such as ripping, digging, breaking and cutting. Machines used for mechanical excavation are excavators, dozers and machines with rotating cutting elements. The choice of a method which is going to be used depends on the characteristics of the rock mass and the impact of the excavation on the environment. Due to the negative impact on the environment, alternative mechanical excavation methods are increasingly sought for blasting. An indicator of a well-chosen excavation method is obtained by the desired fragmentation of an excavated material, with minimal impact on the environment. The most important features that influence the behaviour of a rock material during excavation are the uniaxial compressive strength of an intact rock and the spacing of discontinuities within the rock mass. In addition to the features of the rock mass, when planning the excavation of the rock mass, knowledge of the basics of fracture mechanics is necessary, because rock fracture is based on linear elastic fracture mechanics.

U čvrstim i vrlo čvrstim stijenama eksploatacija uglavnom počinje bušenjem minskih bušotina i miniranjem. S druge strane, miniranje je poznato po negativnim utjecajima na okoliš. Vibracije tla, razbacivanje komada stijene i zračni udar, najznačajniji su primjeri takvih utjecaja. Kod detonacije eksplozivnog punjenja oslobađa se velika količina energije. Jedan dio raspoložive energije pretvorbom prelazi u kinetičku energiju, odnosno energiju seizmičkih valova, a manji dio u energiju zračnih valova. Takvi oblici energije štetni su i mogu izazivati oštećenja na obližnjim objektima. Kako bi se radovi bušenja i miniranja koji se provode u svrhu eksploatacije tehničko-građevnog kamena odvijali bez štetnih posljedica, potrebno je prilikom svakog miniranja izvoditi kontrolna mjerenja veličina oscilacija tla i zračnog udara. Mjerenje se provodi pomoću malih prijenosnih seizmografa čije su ulazne jedinice trokomponentni geofon i mikrofon. Mikrofon mjeri tlak zračnog udarnog vala, a trokomponentni geofon mjeri veličine oscilacija tla, odnosno pomak, brzinu, ubrzanje i frekvenciju seizmičkih potresnih valova. Kako bi nepoželjni efekti miniranja ostali unutar normom propisanih granica, potrebno je pravilno projektirati parametre miniranja poput dubine i promjera minskih bušotina, duljine čepa, intervala otpucavanja među bušotinama i sl. Kroz ovaj rad bit će prikazan postupak terenskog mjerenja i analize rezultata s praktičnom primjenom na primjeru proizvodnog miniranja na kamenolomu u Ljubešćici. Na temelju rezultata mjerenja izrađen je proračun dopuštenih količina eksploziva po stupnju paljenja, s obzirom na to da se pokazalo kako je smanjenje količine eksploziva najbolji način reduciranja vibracija tla prilikom miniranja. In solid and very solid rocks, exploitation usually begins with the drilling of blast holes and blasting. On the other hand, blasting is known for its adverse effects on the environment. Ground vibrations, fly rock, and air blast are the most significant examples of such influences. The detonation of an explosive charge releases a large amount of energy. One part of the available energy is converted into kinetic energy, i.e. the energy of seismic waves, and a smaller part is converted into the energy of airwaves. Such forms of energy are harmful and can cause damage to nearby buildings. In order to avoid negative consequences of drilling and blasting works which are carried out for the purpose of exploiting a technical-building stone, it is necessary to perform control measurements of ground vibrations and air blast during each blasting. The measurement is performed by using small portable seismographs, whose input units are a three-component geophone and a microphone. The microphone measures the pressure of an air blast wave, and a three-component geophone measures ground vibrations, i.e. the velocity, displacement, acceleration, and frequency of seismic waves. To keep the undesirable effects of blasting within the limits prescribed by a norm, it is necessary to properly design the parameters of blasting such as the depth and diameter of boreholes, the stemming length, the firing interval between boreholes, etc. The thesis presents the procedure of field measurement and the analysis of results with their practical application on the example of production blasting at the quarry in Ljubešćica. Based on the measurement results, a calculation of the allowable quantities of explosive charge detonated per delay was made, since it became evident that reducing the amount of explosive charge is the best way to reduce ground vibrations during blasting.

U ovom diplomskom radu prikazan je postupak modeliranja nastajanja procjednih voda u odlagalištu komunalnog otpada programskim paketom VHELP. Kao podloga za model korišten je poprečni presjek odlagališta komunalnog otpada Totovec kojim upravlja gradsko komunalno poduzeće Čakom d.o.o. iz Čakovca. Programskim paketom Visual HELP provedene su analize osjetljivosti izlaznih parametara (količine nastalih procjednih voda) s obzirom na kvalitetu ugradnje geomembrane u gornjem brtvenom sloju i s obzirom na koeficijent propusnosti odloženog otpada. Rezultati modeliranja ukazuju na važnost kvalitete ugradnje geosintetika budući da su analize pokazale da će u slučaju loše ugradnje nastati bitno veće količine procjednih voda. Povećane količine procjednih voda predstavljaju značajan pritisak na okoliš i povećavaju rizik od zagađenja. Također ne treba zanemariti i ekonomski aspekt zbrinjavanja povećane količine procjednih voda što u konačnici može dovesti do povećanja cijene zbrinjavanja otpada za krajnjeg korisnika. This master thesis presents the procedure of modelling the formation of leachate from a municipal waste landfill by using a software package VHELP. The cross section of the Totovec municipal waste landfill was used as a basis for the model, which is managed by the joint-stock utility company Čakom from Čakovec. The Visual HELP software package performed sensitivity analyses of the output parameters (quantities of generated leachate) with regard to the quality of a geo membrane installation in an upper sealing layer and with regard to the permeability coefficient of the disposed waste. The modelling results indicate the importance of the quality of geo synthetics installation, since analyses have shown that in the case of poor installation, significantly higher amounts of leachate will occur. Increased leachate amounts put significant pressure on the environment and increase the risk of pollution. Also, the economic aspect of disposing of the increased amount of leachate should not be neglected, which may ultimately lead to an increase in the cost of waste disposal for the end user.

Zbog modernog načina života ljudi sve više borave u zatvorenim prostorima, bilo to u vlastitom stambenom objektu, na poslu ili u prijevozu pa samim time i kvaliteta zraka postaje sve važnija tema. U zatvorenim prostorima može doći do značajne razlike u temperaturi i vlažnosti zraka, koncentraciji prašine, lako hlapljivih spojeva te razini radioaktivnosti u odnosu na okolinu. Upravo je zato važan monitoring navedenih fizikalnih parametara kako bi se ustanovio njihov utjecaj na ljudsko zdravlje. U ovom je radu korišten senzor DHT22 za mjerenje temperature i vlažnosti zraka, GeigerMüllerov brojač za mjerenje radioaktivnog zračenja te kalibrirani uređaj Airthings Corentium Pro za mjerenje temperature, vlažnosti i tlaka zraka te koncentracije radona. S obzirom na to da je Airthings Corentium Pro kalibriran za mjerenje koncentracije radona, naglasak rada je na mjerenju radioaktivnosti u zatvorenom prostoru i njezinom utjecaju na ljudsko zdravlje. Spajanjem senzora na Croduino, hrvatsku verziju mikrokontrolera Arduino, omogućeni su različiti načini snimanja podataka poput snimanja podataka na računalo pomoću programskog jezika Python, slanja na platformu ThingSpeak putem interneta i snimanja na SD karticu. Sva su mjerenja izvedena u prostorijama Geotehničkog fakulteta. Analizom rezultata mjerenja sa senzora i usporedbom s Airthings Corentium Pro utvrđeno je da senzori nemaju velika odstupanja. Due to modern way of life people increasingly spend their time in closed spaces, whether in residential buildings, at work or in transport, and therefore the topic of air quality is becoming more important. There can be a significant difference in indoor air temperature and humidity, the concentration of dust, volatile organic compounds and radiation level in comparison to the environment. That is precisely why monitoring of indicated physical parameters is important in order to establish their effect on human health. In this paper, a DHT22 sensor was used to measure air temperature and humidity, a GeigerMüller counter was used to measure radioactive radiation and a calibrated device Airthings Corentium Pro was used to measure air temperature, humidity and pressure as well as a radon concentration. Since the Airthings Corentium Pro is calibrated to measure radon concentrations, the emphasis of the paper was placed on measuring radioactivity indoors and its effect on human health. By connecting the sensors to Croduino, a Croatian version of an Arduino microcontroller, various ways of recording data were provided such as being recorded on a computer by using the programming language Python, sending to the platform ThingSpeak via the Internet and recording on an SD card. The measurements were performed on the premises of the Faculty of Geotechnical Engineering. By analysing the results of measurements performed by using sensors and by comparing them to the Airthings Corentium Pro device it was determined that the sensors do not deviate significantly.

Inženjerstvo okoliša kao grana inženjerstva služi za očuvanje, zaštitu i upravljanje okolišem. Problemi vezani uz zaštitu okoliša svakim danom postaju sve veći i potreba za rješavanjem tih problema raste. U inženjerstvu okoliša primjena geodezije se očituje putem kartografskih prikaza, digitalnih modela terena i tomu slično. Geodezija je znanost koja se bavi prikazom Zemljine površine i određivanjem položaja točke pomoću koordinata. Kroz povijest razvili su se razni geodetski instrumenti i metode izmjere, a koriste ih stručnjaci iz područja geodezije koji se nazivaju geodetima. Uostalom, geodetske proizvode koriste i stručnjaci iz srodnih područja. U ovom završnom radu obrađena je tema koja se tiče uloge geodezije u inženjerstvu okoliša s ciljem prikaza određenih geodetskih metoda i instrumentarija koji se klasično koriste u geodeziji pa tako i za potrebe praćenja promjena u okolišu. The aim of environmental engineering, which is as a branch of engineering, is to preserve, protect and manage the environment. Since the problems concerning environmental protection are getting bigger every day, there is a growing need for finding a solution to them.. In environmental engineering, the application of geodesy is manifested trough cartographic representations, digital terrain models and alike. Geodesy is science that deals with the representation of the Earth’s surface and determining the position of a point using coordinates. Throughout history, various geodetic instruments and survey methods have been developed and used by geodetic experts, which are called geodesists, as well as by other experts from similar fields. This bachelor thesis describes the role of geodesy in environmental engineering with the aim showing how some traditional geodetic methods and instruments can be used for monitoring changes in the environment.

Klizište se definira kao dio kosine na kojoj je zbog poremećaja stabilnosti došlo do klizanja i premještanja mase tla ili stijene iz nestabilnog položaja u stabilan. Glavnim uzrokom klizanja smatra se voda (saturiranost pora u tlu vodom). Klizišta predstavljaju vrlo ozbiljan problem današnjice pa su stoga adekvatna terenska istraživanja od velike važnosti za određivanje uzroka klizanja i sanacijskog rješenja. U ovom radu opisani su, prezentirani i interpretirani rezultati terenskih istraživanja klizišta na dvije lokacije, i to na području Samarice i Petrovskog. Od geofizičkih metoda izvedena je geoelektrična tomografija, višekanalna analiza površinskih valova i seizmička refrakcija. Geotehnički istražni radovi obuhvaćali su statičko sondiranje konusnim penetrometrom i dilatometrom te dinamičko sondiranje teškom i lakom udarnom sondom. Analiza je pokazala izvrsno nadopunjavanje i preklapanje rezultata geofizičkih i geotehničkih metoda. Iako istražno bušenje predstavlja najizravniju metodu istraživanja, vrlo je skupo i dugotrajno, te se dobivaju samo točkasti podaci. Rezultati istražnog bušenja na području klizišta Samarica pokazali su dobru korelaciju s rezultatima ostalih geofizičkih i geotehničkih metoda. Terenski istražni radovi bez primjene sondažnog bušenja na području klizišta Petrovsko pokazali su se vrlo uspješnim u detektiranju dubine klizne plohe. Nakon provedenih istraživanja predložena su sanacijska rješenja. Uspješnost sanacijskog rješenja provjerila se analizom stabilnosti prema Bishop-u, pri čemu faktor sigurnosti definira stabilnost kosine. Za slučaj stabilne kosine faktor sigurnosti mora biti veći od 1. Landslide is defined as the part of the slope on which, due to stability disturbances, landslides and displacements of soil or rock have occurred from an unstable position to a stable one. The main cause of sliding is considered to be water (saturation of pores in the soil with water). Landslides are a very serious and current problem today. Therefore, adequate field research is of great importance for determining the cause of landslides and remediation solution. This paper describes, presents and interprets the results of field research of landslides at two locations, in the area of Samarica and Petrovsko. Geoelectric tomography, multichannel analysis of surface waves and seismic refraction were performed from geophysical methods. Geotechnical investigations included static sounding with a conical penetrometer and dilatometer and dynamic sounding with a heavy and light impact probe. The analysis showed excellent complementarity and overlap of the results of geophysical and geotechnical methods. Although exploratory drilling is the most direct research method, it is very expensive and time consuming, and only point data are obtained. The results of exploratory drilling in the area of the Samarica landslide show a good correlation with the results of other geophysical and geotechnical methods. Field exploration works without the use of sounding drilling in the area of the landslide Petrovsko proved to be very successful in detecting the depth of the sliding surface. After the research, remedial solutions were proposed. The success of the remediation solution is checked by stability analysis according to Bishop, where the safety factor defines the stability of the slope. In the case of a stable slope, the safety factor must be greater than 1.

Voda je najzastupljenija tvar u građi svih živih bića i nezamjenjiv sastojak hrane. Čini oko 60 – 70 % tjelesne mase odraslog čovjeka i neophodna je za život i zdravlje. Voda nije samo vitalna potreba već je i resurs koji se koristi u svakodnevnom životu. Dobra kvaliteta vode ključna je za ljudsko zdravlje, društveni i gospodarski razvoj te ekosustav. Rastom populacija degradira se prirodni okoliš pa osiguravanje dovoljnih i sigurnih zaliha voda postaje sve izazovnije te se zbog toga provodi monitoring kakvoće vode. Ispitivanje kakvoće vode za kupanje uključuje terenska opažanja i laboratorijska ispitivanja. Tijekom uzorkovanja bilježe se podaci vezani uz izgled vode, a laboratorijska ispitivanja provode se u ovlaštenim laboratorijima zavoda za javno zdravstvo na području županije u kojoj se nalazi lokacija kupališta. Ispitivanje kakvoće vode provodilo se na jezeru Šoderica koje se nalazi u Koprivničko – križevačkoj županiji. Jezero Šoderica je umjetno jezero koje je nastalo zbog iskopa šljunka, a koristi se i kao kupalište. Rezultati analize su pokazali da su svi analizirani pokazatelji kakvoće vode u skladu s Pravilnikom te da je voda zadovoljavajuće kakvoće za kupanje. Water is the largest part in the biology of all living creatures and an irreplaceable component of their life source – food. It makes up 60 to 70% of a grown man's body weight and it plays a vital role in the quality of people`s life and health. It is not only a vital need, but also a resource that is used on a daily basis. Good quality of water is essential when it comes to our health, social and economic prosperity and the ecosystem itself. As the world's population rises, its negative impact on the environment becomes increasingly negative and as a result it becomes increasingly difficult to secure and maintain proper and safe water supply rates. . It is for this reason that monitoring the quality of water is essential. The testing of water quality (meant for bathing) conducted in this paper included field observations and laboratory research, during which data were collected concerning the appearance of water. This research was done in alaboratory of the Natural Health Department of the region in which the bathing location known as Šoderica is situated. Lake Šoderica is an artificial lake created due to the excavation of gravel, and it is also used as a bathing area, which is why the water quality test was conducted. The results showed that all analysed parameters were in accordance with the Ordinance and that the water was of satisfactory bathing quality.

Prilikom seizmičke pobude tlo i kruta konstrukcija koja se nalazi u tlu ponašaju se na određen, njima svojstven način. Trenutak kada se temeljno tlo i temeljna konstrukcija ne mogu uskladiti i sinkronizirati na način na koji se deformiraju zove se interakcija temeljnog tla i konstrukcije. Rješenja interakcije traže se preko direktne i indirektne metode.. Direktna metoda koristi se češće u akademskoj zajednici, dok indirektna metoda češće svoju primjenu nalazi u inženjerskoj praksi. Ovaj rad predstavlja pregled teoretske osnove interakcije temeljnog tla i konstrukcije. Također su prikazani konkretni načini rješavanja interakcije, prvo pomoću modela opruga i prigušivača, a nakon toga pomoću računalnog softvera indirektnom metodom. U petom poglavlju prikazan je rad u „free to use“ programu ADONIS, koji se često koristi u rješavanju inženjerskih problema. During seismic excitation soil and a rigid structure located in it behave in a certain, inherent way. The moment when foundation soil and a structure in it are unable to align and synchronize in such a way that they both deform is called soil – structure interaction. There are two main methods for solving soil – structure interaction, a direct and an indirect method. The former is more often used in the academic community, while the latter is more often used in an engineering practice. This paper represents an overview of the theoretical basis of a soil structure interaction. Also, this paper gives an example of modeling soil and structure with a system of springs and dashpots and it also shows how a computer software is used for solving interaction with a direct method. The fifth chapter presentsa computer program ADONIS, which is often used for solving problems in geotechnical engineering.

Odlagališta otpada su objekti namijenjeni za zbrinjavanje otpada. Odlagalište otpada „Jerovec“ je aktivno odlagalište komunalnog otpada u Varaždinskoj županiji. Zbrinjavanje otpada njegovim odlaganjem je najmanje povoljan način zbrinjavanja otpada. Odlagališta otpada mogu imati negativan utjecaj na okoliš u kojem se nalaze. Taj nepovoljan utjecaj može se očitovati prvenstveno u onečišćenju zraka i podzemnih voda. Kako bi se negativan utjecaj smanjio na najmanja moguću mjeru, provode se brojne analize i ispitivanja prije izgradnje odlagališta, za vrijeme rada i nakon zatvaranja. Jedan od alata koji donosiocima odluka pomaže u tome je procjena rizika. Landfills are facilities intended for waste disposal. Landfill site „Jerovec“ is an active landfill for municipal waste in Varaždin county. Waste management by disposing of waste is the least favourable way of its management. Landfills can have a negative impact on the environment in which they are located. This adverse effect can be manifested primarily in air and groundwater pollution. In order to minimize the negative impact, a number of analyses and tests are carried out before the construction of landfill, during its operation and after its closure. One of the tools that helps decision makers do this is risk assessment.

Geotehnička sidra važan su element tijekom izvođenja različitih zahvata u rudarstvu i građevinarstvu. Sidra se ugrađuju radi stabilizacije, ojačanja i poboljšanja čvrstoće i krutosti geomedija. U radu su opisane vrste geotehničkih sidara, projektiranje sidra, način izvedbe, postupci i rezultati ispitivanja koji su dobiveni standardnim pokusima čupanja u terenskim uvjetima prema relativno novoj normi EN ISO 22477-5, koja tek zadnjih nekoliko godina postupno ulazi u našu i europsku geotehničku praksu. Normom se uvode novi standardni postupci ispitivanja i odgovarajuća terminologija u ovoj domeni. Cilj rada bio je približiti nove postupke i metode ispitivanja te terminologiju koja se koristi u navedenoj normi zainteresiranim stručnjacima u praksi. Geotechnical anchors are an important element during the execution of various interventions in mining and construction. Anchors are installed to stabilize, strengthen and improve the strength and rigidity of geomedia. The paper describes different types of geotechnical anchors, anchor design, method of execution, procedures and test results obtained by standard pulling tests in field conditions according to a relatively new standard EN ISO 22477-5, which has recently entered our and European geotechnical practice. The norm introduces new standard testing procedures and appropriate terminology. The aim of the paper was to make experts from this field familiar with new testing procedures and methods as well as the terminology which is used in this norm.

U ovom diplomskom radu su opisani projekti koji su provedeni i još se provode u Gradu Metkoviću sa ciljem smanjivanja i iskorištavanja komunalnog otpada. Grad Metković ima odlagalište otpada „Dubravica“ na kojem se provodi jedan projekt sa četiri faze u svrhu poboljšanja odlagališta i smanjivanja otpada na samom odlagalištu te izgradnja sortirnice i reciklažnog dvorišta. Drugi projekt je kompostana Metković koja bi uvelike utjecala na smanjivanje količina komunalnog otpada i bolje iskorištenje biootpada. Svaki projekt je u radu detaljno opisan. This graduate paper describes projects that have been implemented and which are still being implemented in the town of Metkovic with the aim of reducing and exploiting municipal waste. Near the town of Metkovic there is a waste disposal site “Dubravica”, where a four-phase project is being implemented in order to improve it, to reduce waste as well as to build a sorting plant and a recycling yard. The second project is a composting plant Metkovic, which would greatly contribute to the reduction of municipal waste and which would improve the utilisation of biowaste. Each project is described in detail.

Tema diplomskog rada je poboljšanje tla korištenjem šljunčanih pilota. U radu su objašnjeni osnovni pojmovi vezani za ponašanje tla, šljunčani piloti te je prikazan projekt sanacije tla u mjestu Virovitica. Cilj metode je da se slabo nosivo tlo zamijeni kamenim materijalom i tako poveća nosivost, smanji ukupno i diferencijalno slijeganje te ubrza konsolidacija. U praktičnom dijelu rada prikazani su rezultati istražnih radova, rezultati proračuna vezanih za nosivosti šljunčanih pilota i procjenu slijeganja s ciljem smanjenja slijeganja i povećanja nosivosti problematičnog tla. The topic of the graduate thesis is soil improvement using stone columns. The paper presents basic concepts related to soil behaviour, stone columns and the project of soil improvement in Virovitica. The aim of the method is to replace low bearing capacity soil with a stone material and thus increase its bearing capacity, to reduce the total and differential settlement and to accelerate consolidation. The practical part of the paper presents results of field research as well as results of calculations related to the bearing capacity of stone columns and settlement assessment with the aim of reducing settlement and increasing bearing capacity of problematic soil.

Navodnjavanje je agrotehnička mjera u biljnoj proizvodnji kojom se tlu dodaju potrebne količine vode za optimalan rast i razvoj biljke. Osnovni prirodni čimbenici o kojima ovisi količina, kvaliteta i pouzdanost biljne proizvodnje su tlo, voda i klima. Za naše klimatske prilike glavni izvor vode u tlu čine oborine pa se za potrebe navodnjavanja prvenstveno razmatraju podaci o oborinama. Na teritoriju RH imamo dva vodna područja: vodno područje rijeke Dunav i Jadransko vodno područje. Usvajanjem NAPNAV-a postavljeni su temelji za razvoj navodnjavanja u RH. Na Jadranskom vodnom području najviše evidentiranog navodnjavanog zemljišta ima Splitsko-dalmatinska i Zadarska županija, dok najmanje ima Ličko-senjska županija. Najveću površinu svih klasa pogodnosti poljoprivrednog tla za navodnjavanje ima Splitsko- dalmatinska županija, dok najmanju ima Dubrovačko-neretvanska županija. Melioracijske jedinice prioriteta za navodnjavanje i uređenje tla – poljoprivrednog zemljišta, definirane su analizom i namjenskom interpretacijom pedoloških i hidropedoloških pokazatelja kao i vrednovanjem pogodnosti poljoprivrednog zemljišta za navodnjavanje. Izvori vode za navodnjavanje na jadranskom vodnom području mogu biti: podzemna voda, voda iz vodotoka, jezera i izvora, voda akumulirana u prirodnim i umjetnim akumulacijama. Irrigation is an agrotechnical measure in plant production which adds the necessary amounts of water for optimal growth and development of plants. The basic natural factors on which the quantity, quality and reliability of plant production depend are soil, water and climate. For our climatic conditions, the main source of water in the soil is rainfall, so for irrigation purposes, precipitation data are primarily considered. On the territory of the Republic of Croatia we have two water areas: the water area of the Danube River and the Adriatic water area. With the adoption of NAPNAV, the foundations have been laid for the development of irrigation in the Republic of Croatia. In the Adriatic water area, the Split-Dalmatia and Zadar counties have the most recorded irrigated land, while the Lika-Senj County have the least. The largest area of all classes of agricultural soil suitability for irrigation has the Split-Dalmatia County, while the smallest has the Dubrovnik-Neretva County. Reclamation units of priority for irrigation and soil management – agricultural land, are defined by analysis and purposeful interpretation of pedological and hydropedological indicators as well as evaluation of the suitability of agricultural land for irrigation. Sources of water for irrigation in the Adriatic water area can be: groundwater, water from watercourses, lakes and springs, water accumulated in natural and artificial accumulations.

Gospodarenje otpadom bavi se uporabom multidisciplinarnih pristupa u rasponu od inženjerstva, humanističkih znanosti, sociologije i biologije. U ovom diplomskom radu prikazan je način gospodarenja glomaznim otpadom, kao i problemi te perspektive ove vrste otpada. Razina razvijenosti zemlje utječe na gospodarenje glomaznim otpadom. Osim toga, u radu je također opisana vrijednost ove vrste otpada, te je istaknuto kako će društvo iskorištavanjem njegovih potencijala samo dobiti, umjesto izgubiti resurse. Spomenuto je koliko je važno uspostaviti učinkovit sustav gospodarenja otpadom. Točnije, sustav koji djeluje u skladu s hijerarhijom gospodarenja otpadom i zalaže se za održivo gospodarenje otpadom. Sustav gospodarenja glomaznim otpadom u Republici Hrvatskoj do sada još uvijek ima neiskorišteni potencijal za ekološki prihvatljive gospodarske i socijalne aktivnosti. Waste management uses a multidisciplinary approach ranging from engineering, humanities, sociology to biology. The paper presents the management of bulky as well as problems and perspectives concerning this type of waste. The level of development of a particular country impacts bulky waste management. Also, the paper describes the value of this type of waste and it emphasizes that by exploiting its potential societies can only gain, and not lose resources. The paper states that it is important to build an efficient waste management system, more precisely a system that operates in accordance with the waste management hierarchy and which is directed towards sustainable waste management. So far, the bulky waste management system in the Republic of Croatia has had untapped potential for environmentally friendly economic and social activities.

U ovom diplomskom radu prikazano je rješenje osiguranja denivelacije tla pomoću potpornog zida od armiranog tla na aerodromu Čilipi. Pravilnik o aerodromima nalaže da minimalna širina osnovne staze za vožnju iznosi 47.5 m mjereno od središnje osi. Prijašnje stanje nije zadovoljavalo taj uvjet, jer je već nakon 25 m od središnje osi počinjala depresija duboka do 10-ak metara. Problem je riješen izgradnjom zida izvedenog kao Terramesh sustav maksimalne visine 18 m i dužine 524 m. Uz ostale primijenjene metode poboljšanja tla prilikom izgradnje zida, metoda armiranog tla čini glavninu projekta. Metoda armiranog tla koristi armaturu, u današnje vrijeme najčešće izrađenu od plastičnih masa, koja služi za preuzimanje vlačnih naprezanja u tijelu nasipa te obloge ili lica zida. Opisana metoda još uvijek je u razvoju i pruža mogućnosti za mnoga daljnja istraživanja i rješenja. This thesis presents the denivelation solution with reinforced soil walls at Čilipi airport. The minimal width of the taxiway strip required by airport policies is 47.5 m, as measured from the central axe. The previous state of the soil did not meet this requirement, as there was a 10-meter-deep depression located 25 m from the central axe. The solution included building a wall, constructed as a Terramesh system wall, with a maximum height of 18 m and the length of 524 m. Among other methods of soil reinforcement that were applied in the construction of the wall, MSE is the main method used in this project. MSE uses soil reinforcement, most frequently made of plastic mass, which takes on the tensile stress in the embankment’s body. It also uses facing for aesthetic purposes. The described method is still being developed and new possibilities for research continue to emerge.

Otpad i njegovo gospodarenje od velike su važnosti za budućnost i održivi razvoj. Odabir pravilnog načina sustava gospodarenja komunalnim otpadom, njegova učinkovitost, ekonomska održivost i prihvatljivost u velikoj mjeri ovisi o njegovom sastavu. Komunalni otpad ima brojna korisna svojstva, koja se odvojenim prikupljanjem i pravilnim zbrinjavanjem mogu materijalno i energetski oporabiti i time doprinijeti smanjenju količina otpada koji se odlaže na odlagališta. U radu provedena je analiza sastava i količina komunalnog otpada koji je sakupljan po jedinica lokalne samouprave u okviru organiziranog sakupljanja otpada. U svrhu zadovoljavanja ciljeva Europske unije, izrađena je projekcija budućih količina po pojedinim sastavnicama, kao i ukupnih količina komunalnog otpada na području Brodsko-posavske županije, te su analizirane mogućnosti iskorištavanja vrijednih komponenti otpada. Brodsko-posavska županija teži održivom gospodarenju komunalnim otpadom koji će doprinijeti smanjenju količina otpada koji se odlaže na odlagališta i njegovih nepovoljnih učinaka na okoliš, te povećanju obrade odvojeno sakupljenog komunalnog otpada, što je vidljivo iz prikazanih rezultata istraživanja. Waste and its management are of great importance for the future and for the sustainable development. Choosing the right way of municipal waste management system, its efficiency, economic sustainability, and acceptability largely depends on its composition. Municipal waste has several useful properties, which can be materially and energetically recovered by separate collection and proper disposal and thus contribute to reducing the amount of waste disposed of in landfills. The paper analyzes the composition and quantity of municipal waste collected by local self-government units within the organized waste collection. To meet the objectives of the European Union, a projection of future quantities by individual components, as well as the total amount of municipal waste in the Brod-Posavina County were made and the possibilities of using valuable components of waste were analyzed. Brod-Posavina County strives for sustainable management of municipal waste, which will contribute to reducing the amount of waste disposed of in landfills and its adverse effects on the environment. It will also increase the processing of separately collected municipal waste, which is evident from the research results.

Dravska depresija ima veliki potencijal za iskorištavanje geotermalne energije zbog izrazito povišenog geotermalnog gradijenta koji je iznad svjetskog prosjeka. U radu se objašnjava kako je geološka prošlost utjecala na razvoj povišenog geotermalnog gradijenta u Dravskoj depresiji. Također, definira se geotermalna energija i navode se razlozi zbog kojih se smatra energijom budućnosti. Na području Općine Legrad postoji ležište geotermalne energije i planira se izgradnja geotermalne elektrane. U radu se objašnjava način njezinoga izvođenja, proces rada i navode se posljedice njezine izgradnje. The Drava Depression has great potential for the exploitation of geothermal energy due to a markedly elevated geothermal gradient that is above the world average. The paper explains how the geological past influenced the development of the elevated geothermal gradient in the Drava Depression. It also defines geothermal energy, and states reasons for which is it considered the energy of the future. There is geothermal energy in the area of the Municipality of Legrad and a geothermal power plant is going to be built. The paper describes the way it is going to be built, , how it is going to operate and what the consequences of its construction are going to be.

U ovome diplomskome radu se obrazlažu seizmičke aktivnosti i seizmička djelovanja prema Eurokodu 8, odnosno prema važećem nacionalnom dodatku HRN EN 1998-5/NA: Projektiranje potresne otpornosti konstrukcija - 5. dio: Temelji, potporne konstrukcije i geotehnička pitanja. Sam rad obuhvaća načela seizmičkog projektiranja na relativno jasan i kratak način te ih povezuje sa odredbama Eurokoda 8. Pomno obrađuje temeljne pojmove vezane uz seizmičke aktivnosti, seizmičke hazarde (primjerice likvefakcija, slijeganje tla), tipove lokalnog tla, seizmičku analizu, utjecaj seizmičkih djelovanja na konstrukcije, projektiranje s obzirom na Eurokod 7 (HRN EN 1997): Geotehničko projektiranje, te na samome kraju obrađuje specifičnosti Eurokoda 8. Eurokod 8 se temelji na svjetskom znanju i europskim iskustvima vezanim uz protupotresnu gradnju te je uz kombinaciju znanja i iskustva o seizmičkoj aktivnosti pojedine države, moguće do sigurne mjere zaštiti građevine i spriječiti ljudske i ekonomske gubitke prouzročene seizmičkim djelovanjima. This master thesis explains seismic activities to Eurocode 8, according to the valid national appendix HR EN 1988-5 / NA: Design of seismic resistance of structures - part 5: Foundations, supporting structures, and geotechnical questions. The paper covers the principles of seismic design in a relatively clear and concise manner and connects them with the provisions of Eurocode 8. It also carefully deals with basic concepts related to seismic activities, seismic hazards, such as liquefaction, subsidence, local soil types, seismic analysis, the impact of seismic actions on structures design concerning Eurocode 7 HRN EN1977: Geotechnical design, and finally deals with the specifics of Eurocode 8. Eurocode 8 is based on world knowledge and European experience related to earthquake construction, and with a combination of knowledge and experience on the seismic activity of each country, it is possible to safely protect buildings and prevent human and economic losses caused by seismic actions.

Diplomski rad Tehničko-tehnološke karakteristike plitke geotermalne bušotine VTT-1 u Varaždinskim Toplicama sveobuhvatan je rad koji kreće od povijesnih izvora, geološke analize tla, preko suvremenih istraživanja i problema sa svrhom skretanja pozornosti na višenamjensku upotrebljivost Varaždinskih Toplica ne samo u pogledu ekološke svijesti (veća poraba obnovljivih izvora energije), već i ekonomske. Varaždinske Toplice nedovoljno su iskorišten obnovljiv izvor energije koji se u ovom radu detaljno analizira s ciljem da se povlačenjem određenog financijskog resursa omogući ekonomično i ekološki osviješteno maksimalno iskorištavanje tog oblika obnovljivog izvora energije. The graduation thesis Technical-technological characteristics of the shallow geothermal well VTT-1 in Varaždinske Toplice is a comprehensive work which presents historical sources, geological analysis of soil and modern research. The paper also emphasizes positive aspects of the geothermal well in Varaždinske Toplice, not only in terms of environmental awareness (more efficient exploitation of renewable energy sources), but also its economic benefits. Varaždinske Toplice is an insufficiently used renewable energy source, which is analyzed in the paper in detail with the aim of withdrawing a certain financial resource to enable profitable and environmentally friendly maximum exploitation of this renewable energy source.

Otpad je tvar ili predmet koja se odbacuje, namjerava ili mora odbaciti. Često se smatra pokazateljem gospodarske snage te razvijenosti društva. Neizbježno nastaje kao posljedica svakodnevnih ljudskih aktivnosti te je jedan od ključnih ekoloških problema današnjice. Djelovanje otpada može uzrokovati emisije u tlo, vodu i zrak, a posljedica tih emisija su negativni utjecaji na zdravlje ljudi i okoliš, koji ovise o količini i svojstvima otpada te načinu kojim se gospodari otpadom. Pravilan način zbrinjavanja otpada je razvrstavanje te pohranjivanje u spremnike za odvojeno prikupljanje otpada. Najčešći postupak zbrinjavanja otpada je odlaganje otpada na odlagališta. U radu je analiziran vodeni eluat sitne frakcije otpada uzetog sa Županijskog centra gospodarenjem otpada Marišćina. Rezultati su pokazali da vodeni eluat ima izuzetno visoke vrijednosti ukupnog organskog ugljika (TOC) i dušika (TN) kao i električne vodljivosti. Vrijednosti ostalih analiziranih parametara također su povišene što ukazuje na potrebu odgovornog postupanja sa otpadom jer postoji velika opasnost od onečišćenja okoliša i podzemnih voda. Waste is a substance or an object that is discarded, which is going to be discarded or that must be discarded. It is often considered to be an indicator of economic strength and development of a society. It inevitably arises as a consequence of everyday human activities and it is one of key environmental problems nowadays. Waste can cause emissions into soil, water and air, and the consequence of these emissions are negative impacts on human health and the environment, which depend on the amount and properties of waste and the way it is managed. The correct way to dispose of waste is to sort it and store it in containers for separate waste collection. The most common waste disposal procedure is to dispose of waste in landfills. This article analyses liquid eluate of fine waste fraction which was taken from a county centre for waste management Marišćina. The results showed that the liquid eluate had very high values of total organic carbon (TOC) and nitrogen (TN) as well as electrical conductivity. The values of other analysed parameters were also elevated, which indicates the need for responsible waste management because there is a high risk of environmental and groundwater pollution.

Površinski aktivne tvari, ili tenzidi, u okolišu završe: ispuštanjem u rijeke nakon procesa pročišćavanja otpadnih voda ili izravnim ispuštanjem kanalizacije gdje ne postoje uređaji za pročišćavanje otpadnih voda. Najveće količine tenzida nalaze se u otpadnim vodama tekstilne industrije, industrije deterdženata, kemijske industrije, industrije agrokemikalija, farmaceutske industrije, kozmetičke, industrije papira i iz domaćinstva. Za određivanje anionskih tenzida u otpadnim vodama korišten je potenciometrijski DMI-TPB tenzidni senzor. Karakteristike tenzidnog senzora određene su na modelnim uzorcima pomoću direktne potenciometrije i potenciometrijskim titracijama. U pet uzoraka otpadnih voda nisu detektirani anionski tenzidi iznad granice detekcije DMI-TPB tenzidnog senzora. Metodom standardnog dodatka anionskih tenzida, u dva koncentracijska područja, utvrđen je niski negativni utjecaj složenog matriksa realnih uzoraka otpadnih voda na mogućnost određivanja anionskih tenzida pomoću DMI-TPB tenzidnog senzora. Surface active agents, or surfactants end up in the environment: through discharge waters from the wastewater treatment plants into or by the direct discharge of raw sewage where no wastewater treatment is available. The highest concentration of surfactants are released by a textile, detergent, chemical, agrochemical, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and the paper industry as well as households. In this paper, a potentiometric surfactant sensor was used to detect anionic surfactants in wastewaters. The surfactant sensor was characerised by direct potentiometry and potentiometric titration. In five samples of wastewaters no anionic surfactants were found above the detection limit of DMI-TPB surfactant sensor. A standard addition method was employed by adding anionic surfactants, at two concentration levels, to wastewater samples. There was no signifficant influence of the wastewater complex matrix on anionic surfactant detection by DMI-TPB surfactant sensor.

Pojam hidrotermalna ležišta označava geotermalne vode u podzemnim ležištima. Hidrotermalna ležišta klasificiraju se prema stupnju istraženosti fluida, vrsti geotermalnih ležišta i temperaturi ležišnog fluida. Geotermalna energija može se koristiti na više načina, a najpoznatiji je proizvodnja električne energije. Geotermalne elektrane rade na tri principa. U sva tri procesa para se koristi za pogon električnih generatora. Tokom rada geotermalnog postrojenja postoji mogućnost neželjenih emisija u atmosferu, vodu i tlo, a osim toga elektrane proizvode malu količinu buke, utječu na upotrebu zemljišta, može doći do slijeganja tla, inducirane seizmičnosti ili pojave klizišta. Međutim, za razliku od elektrana na ugljen utjecaj geotermalnih elektrana na okoliš je minimalan i ne predstavlja problem. Najveći utjecaj na okoliš primjećuje se prilikom izgradnje geotermalnog postrojenja zbog strojeva, vozila i materijala korištenih u izgradnji. The term hydrothermal reservoirs refers to geothermal water in underground reservoirs. Hydrothermal reservoirs are classified according to the degree of fluid exploration, the type of geothermal reservoirs and the temperature of a reservoir fluid. Geothermal energy can be used in several ways and the most famous is the production of electricity. There are three principles of geothermal power plant operations. In all three processes steam is used to drive electric generators. During the operation of a geothermal plant, there is a possibility of unwanted emissions into the atmosphere, water, and soil. In addition, power plants produce little noise, affect land use, soil subsidence, induced seismicity or landslides may occur. However, unlike coal-fired power plants, their environmental impact is minimal and does not create a problem. The greatest impact on the environment is observed during the construction of a geothermal plant due to machines, vehicles and materials used during their construction.

Geotermalna energija iskorištavana je za rekreacijske svrhe tisućljećima, ali samo za proizvodnju električne energije nešto više od stoljeća. Iako je geotermalna energija jedinstvena među obnovljivim izvorima energije zbog svojih osnovnih mogućnosti i mogućnosti opskrbe toplinom iz obnovljivih izvora, njezino iskorištavanje i dalje znatno zaostaje za drugim obnovljivim izvorima. To se uglavnom može pripisatinesigurnostima u pogledu raspoloživosti resursa u slabo istraženim ležištima i financijskim izdacima u ranoj fazi istraživanja. Napredak u tehnikama karakterizacije ležišta počinje sužavati granice nesigurnosti istraživanja, kako poboljšanjem procjena geometrije i svojstava ležišta, tako i pružanjem procjena temperature na dubini prije bušenja. Napredak u tehnologijama bušenja i upravljanju potencijalno mogu znatno smanjiti početni kapital, dok se operativni troškovi dodatno smanjuju učinkovitijim upravljanjem ležištem i sve učinkovitijim sustavima za pretvorbu energije. Povećana svjesnost o blagodatima geotermalne energije, te sve veći tehnološki napredak mogu dovesti do toga da geotermalna energija postane glavna vrsta obnovljivih izvora. Geothermal energy has been used for recreational purposes for millennia, but its exploitation for generating electricity started just over a century ago. Although geothermal energy is unique among renewable energy sources due to its basic capabilities and the ability to supply heat from renewable sources, its exploitation still significantly falls behind other renewable sources. This can be mainly attributed to uncertainty regarding the availability of resources in poorly explored deposits and financial expenditures at an early stage of exploration. Advances in reservoir characterization techniques are beginning to narrow the limits of exploration uncertainty, both by improving the estimates of reservoir geometry and properties and by providing temperature estimates at depth before drilling. Advances in drilling and management technologies can potentially significantly reduce start-up capital, while operating costs are further reduced by more efficient reservoir management and increasingly efficient energy conversion systems. Increased awareness of the benefits of geothermal energy along with technological advances can lead to geothermal energy becoming a major type of a renewable energy technology.
