SRP requested that Logan Simpson conduct a Class 111 cultural resources inventory of 1,946 acres within Mine Areas J-19, J-21, and N-11 Extension South in Peabody Western Coal Company's, Kayenta Mine Complex (KMC). This is part of a larger environmental impact study (EIS) for the continued operation of the Navajo Generating Station (NGS) and the KMC from December 23, 2019 to December 22, 2044. Reclamation is the lead federal agency, and the BIA and OSMRE are cooperating agencies. Re-permitting of the NGS-KMC is a federal undertaking and must comply with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. A cultural resources inventory is required under 36 CFR § 800 (as revised in 2004), the regulations implementing Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. SRP requested that Logan Simpson conduct a cultural resources inventory of PWCC Mine Areas J-19, J-21, and N-11 Extension South and record any cultural resources encountered to current standards and prepare National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) recommendations for each site. Logan Simpson was also tasked with evaluating the NRHP of six sites recently recorded in the mine areas.

The Salt River Project Agricultural Improvement and Power District (SRP) requested that Logan Simpson conduct a Class 111 cultural resources inventory of 275 miles (7,200 acres) of the existing Western Transmission System (WTS) right-of-way (ROW) in Arizona, Utah, and Nevada. The project area is a linear easement of 200 or 330 ft in width for the existing extra-high WTS voltage transmission line. The transmission line is part of the NGS transmission system and extends from the NGS near Page, Coconino County, Arizona, to the McCullough Substation near Henderson, Clark County, Nevada. The WTS is owned by Reclamation, NVEnergy, and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. This part of a larger effort by Reclamation, Peabody Western Coal Company, and SRP to seek various federal approvals to allow the NGS and the Kayenta Mine Complex (KMC) to continue operation from December 23, 2019, through 2044. Repermitting of the NGS-KMC is a federal undertaking and must comply with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. A cultural resources inventory is required under 36 CFR § 800 (as revised in 2004), the regulations implementing Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. SRP requested that Logan Simpson conduct cultural resources inventory of the variable-width transmission line ROW to record any cultural resources encountered to current standards and prepare NRHP recommendations for each site. No new ground disturbing activities are proposed within the ROW at this time.

At that time, OSMRE will become the lead federal agency assuming NHPA responsibility.
