Simple Summary: Potential curative options for hepatocellular carcinoma include liver transplant, surgical resection, and ablation. Unfortunately, only 15–30% of patients are eligible for curative options at the time of presentation. Therefore, it is crucial to explore and evaluate treatment methods than can potentially convert nonsurgical candidates into surgical candidates. One such treatment option that can be used as a conversion strategy is yttrium-90 radioembolization. This study examines the success rate of using boosted dose radiation segmentectomy to convert nonsurgical candidates into eligible candidates for transplant or surgical resection. Background/Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of boosted dose yttrium-90 radioembolization (TARE) as a modality for conversion therapy to transplant or surgical resection in patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods: In this single-center retrospective study, all patients with a diagnosis of HCC who were treated with boosted dose TARE (>190 Gy) between January 2013 and December 2023 were reviewed. Treatment response and decrease in tumor size were assessed with the RECIST v1.1 and mRECIST criteria. Milan and University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), criteria were used to determine transplant eligibility, and Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) surgical resection recommendations were used to evaluate tumor resectability. Results: Thirty-eight patients with primary HCC who were treated with boosted dose TARE were retrospectively analyzed. The majority of the patients were Child–Pugh A (n = 35; 92.1%), BCLC C (n = 17; 44.7%), and ECOG performance status 0 (n = 25; 65.8%). The mean sum of the target lesions was 6.0 cm (standard deviation; SD = 4.0). The objective response rate (ORR) was 31.6% by RECIST and 84.2% by mRECIST. The disease control rate (DCR) was 94.7% by both RECIST and mRECIST. Among patients outside of Milan or UCSF, 13/25 (52.0%, Milan) and 9/19 (47.4%, UCSF) patients were successfully converted to within transplant criteria. Of patients who were initially unresectable, conversion was successful in 7/26 (26.9%) patients. Conclusions: This study provides further real-world data demonstrating that boosted-dose TARE is an effective modality for conversion of patients with unresectable HCC to transplant or resection. The main objectives of the present prospective clinical study were to evaluate the survival and success rates of implant-supported zirconia single crowns fabricated with a full digital workflow for the rehabilitation of mono- and bilateral agenesis of maxillary lateral incisors after 2 years of clinical function; biological and technical parameters affecting the prosthetic restorations were recorded, as well as the patient-satisfaction score. Twenty-two patients showing mono- or bilateral agenesis of the maxillary lateral incisors were included in this study, and a total of 30 narrow-diameter implants were inserted. Thirty screw-retained monolithic cubic zirconia single crowns with internal connections were fabricated. Objective outcome evaluations were performed by means of the Functional Implant Prosthodontic Score, whereas the patient-satisfaction score was evaluated using Visual Analog Scales. Descriptive statistics were performed and the Kaplan–Meier analysis was run to analyze time-to-event data. After 2 years of clinical function, the overall FIPS found in the present study was 9.2, whereas the average patient-satisfaction score was 8.7. The Kaplan–Meier analysis at the 2-year follow-up reported a cumulative survival rate of 100% and a cumulative success rate of 93.3%. The implant-prosthetic rehabilitation with a full digital workflow proved to be an effective and reliable procedure for the functional and aesthetic treatment of the agenesis of maxillary lateral incisors in the short-term. Clinical investigations with wider sample populations and longer observational follow-ups could be useful to validate, in the long-term, the clinical outcomes of the present prospective clinical study. Porous tantalum trabecular-structured metal (PTTM) has been applied to titanium orthopedic and dental implants. This study evaluated the healing pattern of bone growth into experimental PTTM cylinders (N = 24; 3.0 × 5.0 mm) implanted in the partially edentulous jaws of 23 healthy volunteers divided into four groups. Six PTTM cylinders per group were explanted, prepared, and analyzed histologically/metrically after 2, 3, 6, and 12 weeks of submerged healing. PTTM implant osseoincorporation resulted from the formation of an osteogenic tissue network that over the course of 12 weeks resulted in vascular bone volume levels in PTTM that are comparable to clinically observed mean trabecular volumes in edentulous posterior jaws. This case series describes a treatment method in which the natural tooth was used as the temporary and permanent reconstruction after immediate implantation in the esthetic zone of periodontally compromised patients. Five patients with a hopeless tooth in the esthetic zone due to periodontal causes were included. The tooth was extracted, and immediate implantation protocol was followed. The extracted tooth was adapted over a temporary abutment during the osseointegration period, and the same tooth served as the final prosthetic reconstruction with a customized zirconia abutment. Esthetic outcome was satisfactory to the patients, and no biologic or prosthetic complications were observed up to 3 years. Inadequate restorative space can result in mechanical, biologic, and esthetic complications with full-arch fixed implant-supported prosthetics. As such, clinicians often reduce bone to create clearance. The aim of this paper was to present a protocol using stacking computer-aided design/computerassisted manufacturing (CAD/CAM) guides to minimize and accurately obtain the desired bone reduction, immediately place prosthetically guided implants, and load a provisional that replicates predetermined tissue contour. This protocol can help clinicians minimize bone reduction and place the implants in an ideal position that allows them to emerge from the soft tissue interface with a natural, pink-free zirconia fixed dental prostheses. Simple Summary: There is an unmet need for novel anticancer therapeutics that work differently to current standard-of-care therapies. BOLD-100 is a unique clinical-stage anticancer compound that is based on the rare metal, ruthenium. Understanding the bioactivity of BOLD-100 can accelerate its development towards approval and into clinical practice. The aim of this study was to use a large panel of cancer cell lines to formulate a sensitivity profile of BOLD-100 across various cancer types. BOLD-100 demonstrated increased activity in cell lines from esophageal cancer, blood cancers, and bladder cancer. These indications are in addition to the gastrointestinal cancers currently in clinical development, thus opening new opportunities. Using the sensitivity profile for downstream bioinformatics and pathway analysis revealed associations between cancer cell lines' sensitivity to BOLD-100 and ribosomal gene expression, including several genes coding for large- and small-ribosomal subunits. These findings provide evidence that ribosomal processes may be a critical component of BOLD-100's mechanism. BOLD-100 (sodium trans-[tetrachlorobis(1H indazole)ruthenate(III)]) is a ruthenium-based anticancer compound currently in clinical development. The identification of cancer types that show increased sensitivity towards BOLD-100 can lead to improved developmental strategies. Sensitivity profiling can also identify mechanisms of action that are pertinent for the bioactivity of complex therapeutics. Sensitivity to BOLD-100 was measured in a 319-cancer-cell line panel spanning 24 tissues. BOLD-100's sensitivity profile showed variation across the tissue lineages, including increased response in esophageal, bladder, and hematologic cancers. Multiple cancers, including esophageal, bile duct and colon cancer, had higher relative response to BOLD-100 than to cisplatin. Response to BOLD-100 showed only moderate correlation to anticancer compounds in the Genomics of Drug Sensitivity in Cancer (GDSC) database, as well as no clear theme in bioactivity of correlated hits, suggesting that BOLD-100 may have a differentiated therapeutic profile. The genomic modalities of cancer cell lines were modeled against the BOLD-100 sensitivity profile, which revealed that genes related to ribosomal processes were associated with sensitivity to BOLD-100. Machine learning modeling of the sensitivity profile to BOLD-100 and gene expression data provided moderative predictive value. Skin cancer is one of leading cancers globally, divided into two major categories including melanoma and nonmelanoma. Skin cancer is a global concern with an increasing trend, hence novel therapies are essential. The local treatment strategies play a key role in skin cancer therapy. Nanoparticles (NPs) exert potential applications in medicine with huge advantages and have the ability to overcome common chemotherapy problems. Recently, NPs have been used in nanomedicine as promising drug delivery systems. They can enhance the solubility of poorly water-soluble drugs, improve pharmacokinetic properties, modify bioavailability, and reduce drug metabolism. The high-efficient, nontoxic, low-cost, and specific cancer therapy is a promising goal, which can be achieved by the development of nanotechnology. Metallic NPs (MNPs) can act as important platforms. MNPs development seeks to enhance the therapeutic efficiency of medicines through site specificity, prevention of multidrug resistance, and effective delivery of therapeutic factors. MNPs are used as potential arms in the case of cancer recognition, such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and colloidal mediators for magnetic hyperthermia of cancer. The applications of MNPs in the cancer treatment studies are mostly due to their potential to carry a large dose of drug, resulting in a high concentration of anticancer drugs at the target site. Therefore, off-target toxicity and suffering side effects caused by high concentration of the drug in other parts of the body are avoided. MNPs have been applied as drug carriers for the of improvement of skin cancer treatment and drug delivery. The development of MNPs improves the results of many cancer treatments. Different types of NPs, such as inorganic and organic NPs have been investigated in vitro and in vivo for the skin cancer therapy. MNPs advantages mostly include biodegradability, electrostatic charge, good biocompatibility, high drug payload, and low toxicity. However, the use of controlled-release systems stimulated by electromagnetic waves, temperature, pH, and light improves the accumulation in tumor tissues and improves therapeutic outcomes. Background: The increase of multi-drug-resistant organisms has revived the use of silver as an alternative antibiotic-independent antimicrobial. Although silver's multimodal mechanism of action provides low risk for bacterial resistance, high local and uncontrolled concentrations have shown toxicity. This has resulted in efforts to develop novel silver formulations that are safer and more predictable in their application. Optimization of silver as an antimicrobial is crucial given the growing resistance profile against antibiotics. This article reviews formulations of silver used as antimicrobials, focusing on the mechanisms of action, potential for toxicity, and clinical applications. Methods: A search of four electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, MEDLINE, and Cochrane Library) was conducted for relevant studies up to January 2022. Searches were conducted for the following types of silver: ionic, nanoparticles, colloidal, silver nitrate, silver sulfadiazine, silver oxide, silver carboxylate, and AQUACEL® (ConvaTec, Berkshire, UK). Sources were compiled based on title and abstract and screened for inclusion based on relevance and study design. Results: A review of the antimicrobial activity and uses of ionic silver, silver nanoparticles, colloidal silver, silver nitrate, silver sulfadiazine, silver oxide, Aquacel, and silver carboxylate was conducted. The mechanisms of action, clinical uses, and potential for toxicity were studied, and general trends between earlier and more advanced formulations noted. Conclusions: Early forms of silver have more limited utility because of their uncontrolled release of silver ions and potential for systemic toxicity. Purpose: To determine in vitro the protection potential against discolouration of two OTC (over-the-counter) desensitising products on enamel and dentin in comparison to a standard toothpaste and water by means of a spectrophotometer.Materials and Methods: A total of 96 samples of bovine enamel-dentin complex and 48 of bovine dentin were alternatively immersed in red wine, tea, coffee or water after having been treated by a sodium monofluorophosphate- and calcium phosphate-based product (Curodont Protect), an amine fluoride-based toothpaste (Elmex Red), a stannous chloride-based toothpaste (Elmex Protection Erosion) or distilled water (negative control). Initial (T0) and final colour (T1, after 4 weeks of immersion in staining solutions) of each specimen were assessed by a spectrophotometer. Statistical analysis was done by means of repeated measures ANOVA followed by Fisher's LSD post-hoc test. Differences between T0 and T1 were considered stastistically significant at p ≤ 0.05.Results: When enamel samples were measured over a black background, ΔE00 values (T0-T1) varied from 2.2 (SD 0.7) for amine fluoride-based product/water to 53.9 (SD 7.6) for amine fluoride-based-product/red wine. When dentin samples were measured over a black background, ΔE00 values (T0-T1) varied from 5.4 (SD 0.9) stannous chloride based product/water to 61.6 (SD 3.7) amine fluoride-based product/red wine.Conclusion: Specifically, the application of the sodium monofluorophosphate was able to statistically significantly (p ≤ 0.05) reduce discolouration induced by the staining solutions tested only on the enamel-dentin complex, while distilled water and the stannous fluoride-based product were able to statistically significantly (p ≤ 0.05) reduce discolouration induced by the staining solutions tested in pure dentin samples. This review focuses on the therapeutic effects of ions when released in physiological environments. Recent studies have shown that metallic ions like Ag+, Sr2+, Mg2+, Mn2+, Cu2+, Ca2+, P+5, etc., have shown promising results in drug delivery systems and regenerative medicine. These metallic ions can be loaded in nanoparticles, mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBGNs), hydroxyapatite (HA), calcium phosphates, polymeric coatings, and salt solutions. The metallic ions can exhibit different functions in the physiological environment such as antibacterial, antiviral, anticancer, bioactive, biocompatible, and angiogenic effects. Furthermore, the metals/metalloid ions can be loaded into scaffolds to improve osteoblast proliferation, differentiation, bone development, fibroblast growth, and improved wound healing efficacy. Moreover, different ions possess different therapeutic limits. Therefore, further mechanisms need to be developed for the highly controlled and sustained release of these ions. This review paper summarizes the recent progress in the use of metallic/metalloid ions in regenerative medicine and encourages further study of ions as a solution to cure diseases. The aim of this study was to compare the interproximal papilla stability of restorations supported by computer-aided design/computer-assisted manufacture (CAD/CAM) abutments to those supported by prefabricated stock abutments in anterior areas over a 2-year follow-up. Abutments were selected depending on implant inclination and thickness of buccal peri-implant soft tissues from the following: zirconia stock, titanium stock, zirconia CAD/CAM and titanium CAD/CAM. Differences between the height of the papilla tip were measured (REC). Results: REC values of titanium and zirconia CAD/CAM abutments were significantly lower than those of titanium and zirconia stock. The epidemiological correlation between obesity and cancer is well characterized, but the biological mechanisms which regulate tumor development and response to therapy in obese cancer patients remain unclear. The tumor microenvironment plays an important role in protecting cancer cells by altering the delivery of anticancer therapy to the tumor tissue, reducing the efficacy of treatment. Obese tumor microenvironment provides additional benefits to the survival of tumor cells against anticancer therapies by altering the extracellular matrix composition, angiogenesis processes and the immune cells profile. Nanotechnology, and in particular gold nanoparticles, are being researched as a theranostic strategy for cancer treatment due to their ability to sensitize cancer cells to radiation and photodynamic therapy, enhance delivery of drugs to tumor cells, and in diagnostic applications. Adipose tissue and the obese tumor microenvironment may alter the activity of nanotherapeutics. In this article, we reviewed the current state of our understanding about the mechanisms by which the obese tumor microenvironment may alter the delivery and efficacy of anti-cancer treatments, and why the use of gold nanoparticles may represent an interesting strategy for cancer treatment in the obesity setting. Background: Many studies explained the importance of remineralisation of early carious lesions with various remineralising agents. In the present study, we incorporated the remineralising agents in a dentifrice, applied that in artificial enamel caries and evaluated their remineralising potential and compared the efficacy among the three.Aim: To evaluate and compare the remineralisation potential of a dentifrice containing bioactive glass, casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate and novel laboratory synthesised strontiumdoped nanohydroxyapatite paste in artificial enamel caries.Methods and Materials: 120 enamel specimens were divided into 4 groups of 30 specimens each, based on the type of dentifrice applied: GI - conventional toothpaste (control group), GII - calcium sodium phosphosilicate (Novamin), GIII - casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (GC tooth mousse) and GIV- Novel strontiumdoped nanohydroxyapatite paste (SrnHAp paste). Specimens in all the groups were subjected to demineralisation, and calcium/phosphorous ratio was analysed followed by remineralisation and the mean calcium-phosphorus ratio was assessed using a scanning electron microscope and energy dispersing X-ray analysis.Statistical Analysis: Data were analysed using IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows Software, version 22 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA). Descriptive statistics were used to calculate the mean and standard deviation. Kruskal-Wallis, ANOVA and Mann-Whitney tests were used. The level of significance was set at 5%.Results and Conclusion: All except the control group showed a net increase in calcium and phosphorous values after application of the respective remineralising agents in respective groups. Inter-group comparison revealed that Group IV - SrnHAp paste yields higher net calcium and phosphorous values than other groups. Purpose: This study examined medication use by individuals with tinnitus who were seeking help for their tinnitus by means of a psychological intervention. Method: This study used a cross-sectional survey design and included individuals with tinnitus enrolled in an Internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy trial (n = 439). Study participants provided demographic details, completed various structured questionnaires and provided details about the medications used. The self-reported medications were classified using the United States Pharmacopeial Medicare Model Guidelines v7.0. Results: Current medication use was reported by 67% (n = 293) of the study participants. Those currently using medication were older; had consulted their primary care physician, had greater tinnitus severity, depression, anxiety, and insomnia when compared with those not reporting any current medication use. The top 10 medication used included cardiovascular agents (n = 162; 55.3%), antidepressants (n = 80; 27.3%), electrolytes/minerals/metals/vitamins (n = 70; 23.9%), respiratory tract/pulmonary agents (n = 62; 21.2%), anxiolytics (n = 59; 20.1%), hormonal agents/stimulant/replacement/modifying (thyroid; n = 45; 15.4%), gastrointestinal agents (n = 43; 14.7%), analgesics (n = 33; 11.3%), blood glucose regulators (n = 32; 10.9%), and anticonvulsants (n = 26; 8.87%). Some associations between type of medication used and demographic or tinnitus-related variables were noted especially for the cardiovascular agents, electrolytes/minerals/metals/vitamins, and anxiolytics. Conclusions: This exploratory study indicated a large percentage of patients using medication and a range of medications. Historically, outcomes reporting for radioembolization with yttrium-90 ( 90 Y) of hepatocellular carcinoma has included patients across the range of Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) stages. With the potential for curative radiation segmentectomy for BCLC 0/A patients and evolution of systemic therapy for BCLC C patients, focused review by group is of increasing interest. In this review, we report on efficacy of 90 Y in patients with intermediate (BCLC B) and advanced (BCLC C) hepatocellular carcinoma as well as expected toxicities. Thoughtful and accurate dosimetry is critical to obtain the safest and most efficacious yttrium-90 (Y90) radioembolization of primary and secondary liver cancers. Three dosimetry models are currently used in clinical practice, namely, body surface area model, medical internal radiation dose model, and the partition model. The objective of this review is to briefly outline the history behind Y90 dosimetry and the difference between the aforementioned models. When applying these three models to a single case, the differences between them are further demonstrated. Each dosimetry model in clinical practice has its own benefits and limitations. Therefore, it is incumbent upon practicing interventional radiologists to be aware of these differences to optimize treatment outcomes for their patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To test whether or not different types of CAD/CAM systems, processing zirconia in the densely and in the pre-sintered stage, lead to differences in the accuracy of 4-unit anterior fixed dental prosthesis (FDP) frameworks, and to evaluate the efficiency. Method and Materials: 40 curved anterior 4-unit FDP frameworks were manufactured with four different CAD/CAM systems: DCS Precident (DCS) (control group), Cercon (DeguDent) (test group 1), Cerec InLab (Sirona) (test group 2), Kavo Everest (Kavo) (test group 3). The DCS System was chosen as the control group because the zirconia frameworks are processed in its densely sintered stage and there is no shrinkage of the zirconia during the manufacturing process. The initial fit of the frameworks was checked and adjusted to a subjectively similar level of accuracy by one dental technician, and the time taken for this was recorded. After cementation, the frameworks were embedded into resin and the abutment teeth were cut in mesiodistal and orobuccal directions in four specimens. The thickness of the cement gap was measured at 50× (internal adaptation) and 200× (marginal adaptation) magnification. The measurement of the accuracy was performed at four sites. Site 1: marginal adaptation, the marginal opening at the point of closest perpendicular approximation between the die and framework margin. Site 2: Internal adaptation at the chamfer. Site 3: Internal adaptation at the axial wall. Site 4: Internal adaptation in the occlusal area. The data were analyzed descriptively using the ANOVA and Bonferroni/Dunn tests. Results: The mean marginal adaptation (site 1) of the control group was 107 ± 26 μm; test group 1, 140 ± 26 μm; test group 2, 104 ± 40 μm; and test group 3, 95 ± 31 μm. Test group 1 showed a tendency to exhibit larger marginal gaps than the other groups, however, this difference was only significant when test groups 1 and 3 were compared (P = .0022; Bonferroni/Dunn test). Significantly more time was needed for the adjustment of the frameworks of test group 1 compared to the other test groups and the control group (21.1 min vs 3.8 min) (P < .0001; Bonferroni/Dunn test). For the adjustment of the frameworks of test groups 2 and 3, the same time was needed as for the frameworks of the control group. Conclusions: No differences of the framework accuracy resulting from the different CAM and CAD/CAM procedures were found; however, only after adjustment of the fit by an experienced dental technician. Hence, the influence of a manual correction of the fit was crucial, and the efforts differed for the tested systems. The CAM system led to lower initial accuracy of the frameworks than the CAD/CAM systems, which may be crucial for the dental laboratory. For centuries, silver has been recognized for its antibacterial properties. With the development of nanotechnology, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have garnered significant attention for their diverse uses in antimicrobial gel formulations, dressings for wound healing, orthopedic applications, medical catheters and instruments, implants, and contact lens coatings. A major focus has been determining AgNPs' physical, chemical, and biological characteristics and their potential to be incorporated in biocomposite materials, particularly hydrogel scaffolds, for burn and wound healing. Though AgNPs have been rigorously explored and extensively utilized in medical and nonmedical applications, important research is still needed to elucidate their antibacterial activity when incorporated in wound-healing scaffolds. In this review, we provide an up-to-date, 10-yr (2010-2019), comprehensive literature review on advancements in the understanding of AgNP characteristics, including the particles' preparation and mechanisms of activity, and we explore various hydrogel scaffolds for delivering AgNPs. 3D printing has been in use for a long time and has continued to contribute to breakthroughs in the fields of clinical, physical, and rehabilitation medicine. In order to evaluate the role of 3D printing technology in treating spinal disorders, this paper presents a systematic review of the relevant literature. 3D printing is described in terms of its adjunctive function in various stages of spinal surgery and assistance in osteoporosis treatment. The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the protective effect of short-pulsed CO2 9.3 μm laser irradiation against erosion in human enamel without and combined with TiF4 and AmF/NaF/SnCl2 applications, respectively, as well as compared to the protective effect of these fluoride treatments alone. After polishing, ninety enamel samples (3 × 3mm) were used for 9 different treatment groups: 4% TiF4 gel (pH 1.5, 24,533 ppm F-); AmF/NaF/SnCl2 rinse (pH 4.5; 500 ppm F-, 800 ppm Sn2); CO2 laser (average power 0.58 W); CO2 laser (0.58 W) + TiF4; CO2 laser (0.58 W) + AmF/NaF/SnCl2; CO2 laser (0.69 W); CO2 laser (0.69 W) + TiF4; CO2 laser (0.69 W) + AmF/NaF/SnCl2; negative control (deionized water). TiF4 gel was brushed on only once before the first erosive cycling, while samples treated with AmF/NaF/SnCl2 were daily immersed in 5 ml of the solution before cycling. Laser treatment occurred with a CO2 laser (wavelength 9.3 μm, pulse repetition rate 100 Hz, pulse duration 14.6 μs/18 μs, average power 0.58 W/0.69 W, fluence 1.9 J/cm2/2.2 J/cm2, beam diameter 0.63 mm, irradiation time 10 s, air cooling). TiF4 was applied only once, while AmF/NaF/SnCl2 was applied once daily before the erosive challenge. Surface loss (in μm) was measured with optical profilometry immediately after treatment, and after 5 and 10 days of erosive cycling (0.5% citric acid, pH 2.3, 6 × 2 min/day). Additionally, scanning electron microscopy investigations were performed. All application measures resulted in loss of surface height immediately after treatment. After 5 days, significantly reduced surface loss was observed after applying laser irradiation (both power settings) followed by applications of TiF4 or AmF/NaF/SnCl2 solution (p < 0.05; 2-way ANOVA and Tukey test) compared to fluoride application alone. After 10 days, compared to after 5 days, a reduced tissue loss was observed in all groups treated with AmF/NaF/SnCl2 solution. This tissue gain occurred with the AmF/NaF/SnCl2 application alone and was significantly higher when the application was combined with the laser use (p < 0.05). The concentrations of (Zn, Fe, Mn, Ni, Cu and Cd) were determined in the leaves of Adhatoda schimperiana, Phytolacca dodecandra, and Calpurnia aurea. Zinc, Fe and Mn were found in the range of (in mg kg−1): 179 to 342, 163 to 255 and 14 to 198, respectively. Copper was not detected in C. aurea, Nickel was found only in A. schimperiana 21 mg kg−1) and Cd only in P. dodecandra (5 mg kg−1). Leaves of P. dodecandra contained about two times of Zn and four times of Mn than that of the other plant species. Graphene films have attracted much attention as a heat dissipation material due to their unique thermal transfer behavior that exceeds that the performance of graphite. However, the very high thermal annealing temperature (~ 3000 °C) required to reduce the graphene oxide (GO) films leads to high manufacturing costs and restricts its broader application in thermal management applications. In this study, a modified-graphene (m-Gr) film was fabricated by vacuum-filtering GO suspensions with added glucose, followed by thermal annealing at 1000 °C. Oxygen-containing functional groups were effectively eliminated during annealing and activated carbon atoms from the decomposition of glucose molecules repaired defects in the graphene sheets to restore large areas of the π-conjugated structure. The as-obtained m-Gr films showed excellent in-plane thermal conductivity ~ 1300 Wm−1 K−1 and much more efficient heat removal than pristine-reduced graphene oxide films. Background: Striae distensae (SD), an unsightly cutaneous condition characterized by epidermal atrophy, can affect the quality of life of women. Objectives: The aim of our study was to compare the efficacy of a neodymium:yttrium–aluminum–perovskite 1340 nm non-ablative fractional laser (NAFL) and the microneedling (MN) technique to treat striae alba (SA). Materials and Methods: NAFL and MN were used to treat striae on the longitudinally divided abdominal surface of 20 women classified as Fitzpatrick skin type III or IV (five sessions at monthly intervals). Photographs and skin biopsies were obtained during pretreatment and after the third and fifth treatment sessions for all patients. Patients and two independent evaluators assessed the clinical response using the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale. Results: Patient-reported evaluation showed improvement of striae using both modalities, with no statistically significant difference between the groups. Collagen and elastic fibers were significantly increased (p < 0.01) after the third and fifth treatment sessions, with no significant difference between the modalities. In addition, Dermatology Life Quality Index scores showed significant improvement (p < 0.001) after the third and fifth treatment sessions compared with pretreatment values, with average values of 8.4 (standard error [SE] ± 1.21), 3.17 (SE ± 0.55), and 2.64 (SE ± 0.60), respectively. The mean pain score using the Visual Analog Scale in the MN group versus the NAFL group was 5.23 (SE ± 0.31) versus 2.39 (SE ± 0.22) [p < 0.001], and the mean duration of adverse events in the NAFL group versus the MN group was 4.03 days (SE ± 0.45) versus 3 days (SE ± 0.37) [p = 0.02]. Conclusion: NAFL and MN are safe for treating SD, particularly in individuals classified as phototype III or IV. MN is a useful non-technology-dependent, low-cost alternative therapy for SA. Using gold-silica nanoshell as a reference nano-agent, this work has performed preliminary numerical parametric study to investigate the feasibility and if feasible the efficiency of using a single nano-agent to achieve theranostic goals. In total, seven generics of gold-silica nanoshells have been tested including the R[50,10] (radius of the silica core is 50 nm and thickness of the gold shell is 10 nm), R[40,15], R[55,25], R[40,40], R[75,40], R[104,23], and R[154,24] nanoshells. A planar tissue model has been constructed as the platform for parametric study. For mathematical modeling, radiant transport equation (RTE) has been applied to describe the interactions among laser lights, the hosting tissue, and the hosted nanoshells and Penne's bio-heat equation has been applied to describe the hyperthermia induced by such interactions. Effects of different nanoshell generics on the diffuse reflectance signal and hyperthermia temperature transition have been simulated, basing on which the potential of a certain nanoshell generic as theranostic nano-agent has been evaluated. It has been found that it is highly feasible for gold-silica nanoshells to be engineered for theranostic purpose and nanoshell generics that are preferentially scattering should be explored for good theranostic candidates. On the condition that nanoshell generic with the right optical properties has been located, a moderate nanoshell retention in the target tissue site is already sufficient to induce effective theranostic effects, which indicates that theranostic nano-medicine might not have a stringent requirement for the delivery technique. Among nanoshells that have been tested, the R[55,25] nanoshell seems to be a promising candidate as theranostic nano-agent. Further testing on it is highly recommended. Nanoshells that are preferentially absorbing such as the R[50,10] and R[40,15] nanoshells are efficient photothermal agent and could be used for therapeutic purpose only. In this research article, the synthesis, structural characterization, and biological, DNA binding and anticancer properties of pyrimidine incorporated Schiff base ligand L and its [CuL2](ClO4)2 (1) and [ZnL2](ClO4)2 (2) complexes are reported. The isolated complexes 1 and 2 have significant antibacterial and antifungal properties, greater than those of ligand L. The interaction between protein and L were analyzed by an in silico method. The intercalative binding of the prepared compounds was proved from electronic absorption, fluorometric, cyclic voltammetric and viscometric methods. The calculated binding parameters such as, Kb (2.65×103, L; 7.74×103, 1 and 2.99×103, 2); Ksv (3.30×103, L; 4.31×103, 1 and 3.89×103, 2), and Kapp (2.15×105, L; 3.30×105, 1 and 2.82×105, 2) indicted that complex 1 has better interaction ability than L and complex 2. The in vitro anticancer properties of L, and complexes 1 and 2 against human cancer (MCF-7, HeLa and HEp-2) and normal (NHDF) cell lines were determined by the MTT assay method. Objective: The beneficial mechanical properties of zirconia, together with the adhesive techniques, provide a wide range of clinical applications, including the construction of thin structures and minimally invasive adhesive restorations. Clinical Considerations: A periodontal disease‐related missing maxillary central incisor, in a pregnant patient with chronic periodontal disease in the first trimester of pregnancy, and with type II diabetes treated with resin‐bonded fixed partial denture using the missing tooth cemented to a zirconia framework and then bonded to the abutment teeth. Conclusions: According to the systemic conditions presented in this case report, using a low‐cost technology and the missing tooth it was possible to obtain an easier and satisfactory esthetic and functional result. Background and purpose — With a rapidly increasing population in need of total knee arthroplasty (TKA), there is renewed interest in cost-saving all-polyethylene designs. Differences between metal-backed and all-polyethylene designs in initial component migration assessed by radiostereometric analysis (RSA), a proven predictor for late aseptic loosening, have been scantily reported. The purpose of this study was to compare implant migration and clinical outcomes of all-polyethylene tibial components versus metal-backed trays of similar geometrical shape. Patients and methods — In this randomized controlled trial, 59 patients received a cemented Triathlon condylar-stabilizing implant (Stryker, Mahwah, NJ, USA) with either an all-polyethylene (n = 29) or a metal-backed tibial component (n = 30). RSA measurements and clinical scores (the Knee Society Score, Forgotten Joint Score, and Knee Osteoarthritis and Injury Outcome Score) were evaluated at baseline and postoperatively at 3, 12, and 24 months. A linear mixed-effects model was used to analyze the repeated measurements. Results — A statistically significant difference in mean migration after 2 years was found in favor of the all-polyethylene group, with a mean maximum total point motion of 0.61 mm (95% CI 0.49-0.74) versus 0.81 mm (95% CI 0.68-0.96) for the cemented group (p = 0.03). However, this difference was smaller and not statistically significant after post hoc adjustment for surgeon effect. Both groups showed comparable improvements on all clinical outcome scores over time. Interpretation — The Triathlon all-polyethylene tibial component showed less migration, suggesting a lower risk of late loosening as compared with its metal-backed counterpart. Purpose This manuscript describes the technique of real-time MRI-guided sclerotherapy for low-flow venous malformations in the head and neck based on our institutional experience. Materials and methods Ethanolamine oleate is used as the sclerosant and is mixed with gadolinium for visualization during the procedure. The five procedural steps include: (I) an initial tri-plane T2-weighted sequence to visualize the lesion; (II) a T1 FSE or trueFISP sequence to assess needle placement and advancement within the lesion; (III) a tri-plane T1 FLASH sequence to monitor sclerosant injection; (IV) a T1 FSE or VIBE sequence to assess sclerosant coverage of the malformation before needle removal; (V) a post-procedural tri-plane T1 fat-saturated sequence to confirm sclerosant coverage of the lesion. Periprocedural medications typically include steroids, antibiotic prophylaxis, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication. Patients are typically admitted for overnight observation. Hyperthermia is an anti-cancer treatment in which the temperature of the malignant tumor is increased more than other adjacent normal tissues. Microwave, ultrasound, laser, and radiofrequency sources have been used for hyperthermia of cancerous tissues. In the past decade, near-infrared (NIR) laser for cancer therapy, known as photo-thermal therapy (PTT), was expanded in which the photo-sensitizer agent converts the light photon energy to heat. The heat following PTT can destroy cancer cells. There are some photo-sensitizer agents which have been used for PTT; however, owing to recent advances in nanotechnology, noble metal nanoparticles like gold (Au) nanoparticles (GNPs) have been used successfully in PTT. GNPs have some desirable specifications, including simple and controlled synthesis, small size, high level of biocompatibility, and surface plasmon resonance (SPR). The SPR effect of the GNPs increases the radiative properties like absorption and scattering; therefore, they can be used in PTT. In this article, we reviewed recent in vitro studies of PTT using GNPs in literature. At first, we focus on the physical properties of GNPs, their interaction with infrared radiation, and physical parameters governing the interaction of infrared radiation with the GNPs. Then, we review the passive and active targeting of GNPs using the different coating to induce the thermal damage in cancer cells using low-level laser PPT. The GNPs' cellular internalization into cancer cells is a challenge which is consequently considered. In this review, we also summarize the results of synergistic cancer therapy studies on the combination of radiation therapy as a routine cancer treatment and PTT: in which significant improvement occurs in treatment efficacy. Introduction: Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is a serious complication after total hip arthroplasty (THA) and bearing material's associations to PJI prevalence is largely unknown. The main purposes of this study were to determine if revision for infection varied depending on the type of bearing surface used in primary THA and to study whether patient or implant related factors had an effect on this variation. Methods: A total of 177,237 primary THA procedures from the Australian Registry (AOANJRR) were analysed. 3 bearing surfaces were compared. Metal-on-highly cross-linked polyethylene (MoXP) bearing had been used in 95,129 hips, ceramic-on-highly cross-linked polyethylene (CoXP) in 24,269 hips, and ceramic-on-ceramic (CoC) in 57,839 hips. Revision rates for infection were compared between the 3 groups. Results: Both MoXP and CoXP had a higher revision rate for infection compared to CoC hips (hazard ratio [HR] 1.46 (1.25, 1.72), p < 0.001) and HR 1.42 (1.15, 1.75), p = 0.001 respectively). Patients aged 70 years or less had a lower revision rate for infection when a CoC bearing was used. This difference was independent of sex, and prostheses selection. No difference was evident if the femoral component was cemented or a head size of 28 mm was used. Discussion: In this registry-based material, use of a CoC bearing was associated with a lower risk of revision for infection in patients younger than 70 years when cementless femoral components were used. The purpose of this study was to compare the depths of cure of a proximal box preparation filled in bulk with various approaches: filled with a bulk-fill or conventional composite; placed with a new perforated metal matrix, a traditional metal matrix, or a clear matrix; and polymerized with either occlusal-only or tri-sited light curing. After tri-sited curing, the use of the new perforated metal matrix band resulted in a depth of cure that was not significantly different from that achieved with the use of metal bands (removed during curing) or transparent matrix bands. Adequate polymerization was obtained at depths of more than 5.0 mm for the bulk-fill composite and more than 4.0 mm for the conventional composite when tri-sited light curing was used. Tri-sited light curing resulted in a significantly greater depth of cure than occlusal-only curing. The perforated metal band may be used as an alternative to the use of solid metal bands or transparent matrix bands to provide similar depths of cure for composite resins, with the possible benefits of malleability and the ability to leave the band in place during tri-sited light curing. Positive effects of irradiation with ultraviolet (UV) light or treatment with non‐thermal plasma on titanium and zirconia surfaces have been described in various studies. The aim of this study was to assess and compare the changes in the physicochemical surface conditions of titanium and zirconia surfaces after a short treatment with UV light or with non‐thermal plasmas of argon or oxygen. Titanium and zirconia samples with moderately rough surfaces were treated for 12 min either in a UV‐light oven or in a non‐thermal plasma reactor that generates non‐thermal plasmas of oxygen or argon. Changes in surface conditions were assessed by confocal microscopy, dynamic contact angle measurement, and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). No changes in roughness occurred. Ultraviolet irradiation and non‐thermal plasma significantly increased the wettability of the titanium and zirconia surfaces. X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy showed an increase of oxygen and a significant decrease of carbon after treatment with either method. Thus, ultraviolet light and non‐thermal plasma were found to be able to improve the chemical surface conditions of titanium and zirconia following a short exposure time. This study evaluated the influence of different finish line designs and abutment materials on the stress distribution of bilayer and monolithic zirconia crowns using three‐dimensional finite element analysis (FEA). Three‐dimensional models of two types of zirconia premolars – a yttria‐stabilized zirconia framework with veneering ceramic and a monolithic zirconia ceramic – were used in the analysis. Cylindrical models with the finish line design of the crown abutments were prepared with three types of margin curvature radius (CR): CR = 0 (CR0; shoulder margin), CR = 0.5 (CR0.5; rounded shoulder margin), and CR = 1.0 (CR1.0; deep chamfer margin). Two abutment materials (dentin and brass) were analyzed. In the FEA model, 1 N was loaded perpendicular to the occlusal surface at the center of the crown, and linear static analysis was performed. For all crowns, stress was localized to the occlusal loading area as well as to the axial walls of the proximal region. The lowest maximum principal stress values were observed when the dentin abutment with CR0.5 was used under a monolithic zirconia crown. These results suggest that the rounded shoulder margin and deep chamfer margin, in combination with a monolithic zirconia crown, potentially have optimal geometry to minimize occlusal stress. Objective: The aim of this study was to comparatively evaluate the efficacy of strontium-89 chloride (89 SrCl2) in treating bone metastasis-associated pain in patients with lung, breast, or prostate cancer.Materials and Methods: The 126 patients with lung cancer included 88, 16, 15, 4, and 3 patients with adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, nonsmall cell carcinoma, mixed carcinoma, and small cell carcinoma, respectively, and the control group consisted of patients with breast (71 patients) or prostate cancer (49 patients) who underwent 89 SrCl2 treatment during the same period. The treatment dose of 89 SrCl2 was 2.22 MBq/kg.Results: The efficacy rate of treatment in the lung cancer group was 75.4%, compared to 95.0% in the control group. Approximately 67% of patients with lung cancer and bone metastases and 47% of control patients exhibited mild-to-moderate reductions of leukocyte and platelet counts 4 weeks after 89 SrCl2 treatment.Conclusions: 89 SrCl2 can safely and effectively relieve bone pain caused by bone metastasis from lung cancer. However, its efficacy was lower in patients with lung cancer with bone metastasis than in those with breast or prostate cancer with bone metastasis, and its effects on the peripheral hemogram were also significantly stronger in the lung cancer group. Due to the molecular complexity of many diseases, combination therapy is becoming increasingly important for a better long-term prognosis and to decrease side effects. In this presented work, a kind of AB 2 Y-shape supramolecular micelles based on the metal-coordinated interaction between histidine and iron-tetraphenylporphyrins (Fe-TPP) had been successfully prepared which exhibited excellent acid-responsivity in acidic aqueous solution (pH < 6, similar to tumor micro-environment). To verify the application for drug delivery, doxorubicin was loaded at neutral. Then the anticancer efficiency was evaluated in vivo towards HeLa and MCF-7 cells. The obtained date indicated that the loaded drug released at tumor acid condition because the micelles disassembled. Importantly, the existence of Fe-TPP being as photosensitizer obviously improved the anticancer efficiency, confirming that synergistic chemo-photodynamic therapy could effectively enhance cellular proliferation inhibition. A series of 24, 26-membered RuII2 metallamacrocycles containing 1-{3-[(1 H-imidazol-1-yl)methyl]benzyl}-1 H-imidazole ( m-bib) and 1-{4-[(1 H-imidazol-1-yl)methyl]benzyl}-1 H-imidazole ( p-bib) ligands have been synthesized and characterized. X-ray crystal structures of [Ru2(η6 -p-cymene)2( m-bib)2Cl2](CF3SO3)2 ( 2), [Ru2(η6 -p-cymene)2( m-bib)2Cl2](SbF6)2 ( 3), [Ru2(η6 -p-cymene)2( m-bib)2I2]I2 ( 6), and [Ru2(η6 -p-cymene)2( p-bib)2Cl2](CF3SO3)2 ( 8) were determined and found to exhibit chair-like conformations. In general, the complexes exhibited little or moderate anti-proliferative activity towards cancer cells [human lung cancer cells (A549), breast adenocarcinoma cells (MCF-7), cervical epithelioid carcinoma cells (HeLa)] as well as normal liver cells (L02), except [Ru2(η6- p-cymene)2( p-bib)2Cl2](NO3)2 ( 10) (IC50 = 16.7 µ m), which had activity comparable with the anticancer drug cisplatin (IC50 = 15.8 µ m). A large number of medicinal plants is traditionally known in Kenya and used for treatment of various diseases, for example diabetes, where metals are supposed to be involved in pathogenesis and therapy. Therefore, detailed investigation of the concentration of a large number of metals in medicinal plants is required for improved understanding and optimisation of the therapeutic role of metals and also to exclude potentially toxic effects. Our study focused on the determination of 30 selected elements in 19 medicinal plant species each collected from 3 sampling locations in Nyamira County, Kenya. The obtained comprehensive data set showed large variability and multivariate data analysis revealed that the differences in the elemental composition were stronger dependent on the plant species than on the sampling location. In addition, hot water extractions were performed to mimic the traditional preparation of medicine from the plants. It was found that the mean extraction efficiencies were below 20% except for B, Mg, P, K, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Rb, Mo, Cd and Tl, which are mostly essential elements apart from Cd and Tl. Sequential (ultra)filtration of the extracts was applied as novel approach for molecular size-fractionation of the extracted elemental species. The results indicate more than 50% low molecular weight species (<3 kDa) for Mg, Mn, Co, Ni and Zn while predominantly larger size-fractions (>3 kDa up to <5 μm) were detected for V, Cu, Al and Fe. To determine the survival rate and marginal bone loss (MBL) of zirconia dental implants restored with single crowns or fixed dental prostheses. An electronic search was conducted up to November 2015 (without any restriction regarding the publication time) through the databases MEDLINE (PubMed), Cochrane Library, and EMBASE to identify randomized controlled clinical trials and prospective clinical trials including >15 patients. Primary outcomes were survival rate and MBL. Furthermore, the influence of several covariates on MBL was evaluated. Qualitative assessment and statistical analyses were performed. This review was conducted according to preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines for systematic reviews. With the applied search strategy, 4,196 titles could be identified. After a screening procedure, 2 randomized controlled clinical trials and 7 prospective clinical trials remained for analyses. In these trials, a total of 326 patients received 398 implants. The follow-up ranged from 12 to 60 mo. Implant loss was mostly reported within the first year, especially within the healing period. Thereafter, nearly constant survival curves could be observed. Therefore, separate meta-analyses were performed for the first and subsequent years, resulting in an implant survival rate of 95.6% (95% confidence interval: 93.3% to 97.9%) after 12 mo and, thereafter, an expected decrease of 0.05% per year (0.25% after 5 y). Additionally, a meta-analysis was conducted for the mean MBL after 12 mo, resulting in 0.79 mm (95% confidence interval: 0.73 to 0.86 mm). Implant bulk material and design, restoration type, and the application of minor augmentation procedures during surgery, as well as the modes of temporization and loading, had no statistically significant influence on MBL. The short-term cumulative survival rates and the MBL of zirconia implants in the presented systematic review are promising. Strontium is an alkaline earth metal that has similar properties to its neighbours in the periodic table, barium and calcium. Early experiments showed that strontium had the effect of reducing bone loss and increasing bone formation. Its properties in humans were investigated and it was shown to be an effective treatment for osteoporosis, a disease with a significant health-economic burden. Only when extensive clinical trial data were analysed, after many years of treatment had elapsed, did it become apparent that strontium increased adverse cardiac events in those who took it. This pharmacovigilance eventually led to the medicine being withdrawn from the market and is a good example of how important the assessment of real-world data is in assessing medicine safety. Zirconia has become one of the most popular materials in dentistry. New high-translucent zirconia ceramics have favorable optical properties and can be applied as monolithic full-contour restorations in various clinical indications for posterior and anterior teeth. However, having reliable cementation protocols is fundamental for clinical success of indirect ceramic dental restorations, including those made from zirconia materials. Resin bonding supports ceramic restorations and is necessary for onlays, laminate veneers, and resinbonded fixed dental prostheses. The APC zirconia-bonding concept is based on decades of research on how to achieve high and long-term durable bond strengths to high-strength ceramics. It includes three practical steps: (A) airparticle abrasion, (P) zirconia primer, and (C) adhesive composite resin. This article discusses the history and development of high-translucent zirconia and explains the necessity for proper cementation. Background and Aim: Dentinal hypersensitivity is a relatively common problem experienced in clinical dental practice and is characterized by short, sharp pain in response to stimuli such as tactile, thermal, evaporative, osmotic, or chemical. Several agents and treatment modalities have been used in the treatment of this condition. This study was conducted to compare the efficacy of four commercially available toothpastes in the reduction of dentinal hypersensitivity (DH), based on the hypothesis that calcium sodium phosphosilicate (CSPS) group had a better efficacy of the four.Settings and Design: This study design was a prospective, single-blind, randomized, parallel clinical design.Subjects and Methods: A total of 160 cases (93 males and 67 females; aged 20-60 years) were randomly divided into four groups: Group 1 - toothpaste containing 5% potassium nitrate; Group 2 - toothpaste containing 5% CSPS (NovaMin); Group 3 - toothpaste containing 10% strontium chloride; and Group 4 - a herbal formulation. The patients' DH scores for tactile, thermal, and evaporative stimuli were recorded on a visual analog scale at baseline, 2 weeks, 1 month, and 2 months.Statistical Analysis Used: The data were analyzed with Wilcoxon signed-rank test, Kruskal-Wallis test, and Mann-Whitney U-test (P < 0.05).Results: The four desensitizing kinds of toothpaste containing different active agents were effective in relieving dentinal hypersensitivity. Background: Severe bone loss during a revision total knee arthroplasty (TKA) remains a challenging problem. The purpose of this study was to determine the midterm clinical outcomes, fixation as evaluated radiographically, and survivorship of tantalum femoral cones used during revision TKAs in patients with severe femoral bone loss.Methods: From 2003 to 2011, 159 tantalum metaphyseal femoral cones were implanted in 157 patients at a single institution. Knee Society scores, radiographic results, and implant survivorship were analyzed. Two patients were lost to follow-up. Nineteen died of causes unrelated to the surgery but had been followed for >2 years and thus were included in the study. The mean age at the time of the index surgery was 64 years, and 82 patients were male. The mean duration of follow-up was 5 years (range, 2 to 10 years).Results: The mean Knee Society score increased from 47 preoperatively to 65 at the most recent follow-up evaluation (p = 0.1). Radiographically, all 134 unrevised femoral cones were seen to be well fixed without any evidence of loosening. At 5 years, 23 cones had been revised: 14 because of infection, 6 because of aseptic loosening of the cone (all in hinged TKAs in patients with a Type-3 defect), and 3 because of ligamentous instability. The 5-year survivorship was 96% when the end point was revision of the cone due to aseptic loosening, 84% when it was revision of the cone for any reason, and 70% when it was any reoperation.Conclusions: In what we believe to be the largest series of such implants, femoral cones provided a durable and reliable option for metaphyseal fixation during revision TKA with severe femoral bone loss. Background: The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate the efficacy of incorporating trans-arterial radioembolization (TARE) with systemic chemotherapy in the treatment of liver-dominant metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, with the aim of destroying liver metastases and improving patient outcomes.Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 16 patients with liver-dominant metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma who underwent TARE between February 2012 and August 2015; 15 of these patients also underwent concurrent systemic chemotherapy. Patient outcomes were assessed using Response Evaluation Criteria In Solid Tumors (RECIST), Version 1.1 and included disease response, median overall survival from the time of diagnosis of metastatic disease, and median overall survival following receipt of TARE. Treatment-related adverse events were assessed using Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE), Version 4.03.Results: The median overall survival from the time of diagnosis of metastatic disease and following receipt of TARE was 22.0 and 12.5 months, respectively. Overall and liver specific disease response were assessed for 13 patients with follow-up imaging available at the time of study (range 2-13 weeks post TARE). Four patients (31 %) demonstrated partial response and five patients (38 %) had stable disease in the liver at follow-up. One patient developed grade 3 elevation of total bilirubin three months post-treatment and another patient developed radiation cholecystitis directly following TARE. No treatment-related grade 4 or 5 toxicities were seen.Conclusion: TARE can be safely combined with systemic chemotherapy for the treatment of liver-dominant metastatic pancreatic cancer. Platinum complexes which are most studied metal complexes due to their importance as adjuvant therapy of cancers aiming to induce tumor-cell-death. Some of the platinum-based antitumor drugs like cisplatin, carboplatin and oxaliplatin, have several disadvantages including side effects, cisplatin-resistant tumors, limited solubility in aqueous media, and so on. Thus, to achieve lower undesirable toxicity, enhanced solubility, and tumor selectivity, significant amount of work have been devoted to the preparation of modified platinum complexes. One of the ways to design the new anti-tumor agents related to cisplatin is to change the nature of central metal ion. Among the non-platinum metal complexes studied for cancer treatment, palladium(II) derivatives were readily chosen due to their structural analogy with those containing Pt(II) complexes. This review focuses on anti-tumor property of Pd(II) complexes and makes comparisons with similar property of cisplatin. Then, in the review, palladium(II) complexes have been classified according to their leaving ligands into palladium(II) complexes. In the last part, the most important factors affecting on the anti-tumor activity of the Pd(II) complexes were discussed. Some novel Zn(II) complexes of a new long chain Schiff base ligand have been synthesized. The molecular formula of these complexes is suggested to be ZnLX (X = Cl, Br, I, SCN and N). The ligand and its complexes were identified by elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV-Visible, H and C NMR spectra, thermogravimetry, conductometry, and melting point measurements. Moreover, the crystal structure of the zinc iodide complex was characterized by X-ray single-crystal analysis. This may be the first report on mononuclear four coordinated Schiff base complex based on 1,4-diaminobutane. The complex crystalizes in the triclinic system with space group P. The zinc ion is surrounded by two iminic nitrogen atoms from the ligand and two iodide anions. According to the angular index of Houser ( τ) for description of the geometry of four coordinated centers, a distorted tetrahedron is suggested for the complex. Analysis of interactions between molecules of the ZnLI complex revealed the existence of intermolecular interactions such as C-H···I, C-H···π, and π···π interactions. There are three types of C-H···I interactions in the crystal packing. Each molecule forms six C-H···I hydrogen bonds with four neighbor molecules through aliphatic and alkenic carbons as donor and I atoms as acceptor. These various C-H···I interactions along with other ones lead to the formation of a supra-molecular structure in a two-dimensional network. After characterization of the complexes, thermal behavior and antimicrobial activities of the ligand and its complexes against some gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria as well as against two fungi were investigated by disk diffusion, MIC, and MBC methods. Objective: Snoring occurs as a result of soft tissue vibration caused by a partial upper airway collapse during sleep. This study evaluated the effectiveness and potential adverse side effects associated with the use of a nonsurgical, erbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Er:YAG) laser treatment for patients with snoring conditions.Materials and Methods: In total, 33 patients with different degrees of snoring were analyzed retrospectively. All patients received three NightLase™ Er:YAG laser treatments. Results were measured using a follow-up questionnaire and then statistically analyzed. Any effects that occurred during the first year after treatment (i.e., short-term effects) were followed up with interviews.Results: Laser treatment effectively reduced patients' snoring and achieved a 65% satisfaction rate after three treatments. The greatest improvement and satisfaction were experienced by patients aged ≥50 years. Patients reported additional benefits from this treatment including easier breathing, higher alertness, and increased focus.Conclusion: Nonsurgical Er:YAG laser treatment is an effective and minimally invasive procedure to reduce patient snoring and other sleep-disordered breathing symptoms. The past decade has seen a dramatic increase in interest in the use of gold nanoparticles (GNPs) as radiation sensitizers for radiation therapy. This interest was initially driven by their strong absorption of ionizing radiation and the resulting ability to increase dose deposited within target volumes even at relatively low concentrations. These early observations are supported by extensive experimental validation, showing GNPs' efficacy at sensitizing tumors in both in vitro and in vivo systems to a range of types of ionizing radiation, including kilovoltage and megavoltage X rays as well as charged particles. Despite this experimental validation, there has been limited translation of GNP-mediated radiation sensitization to a clinical setting. One of the key challenges in this area is the wide range of experimental systems that have been investigated, spanning a range of particle sizes, shapes, and preparations. As a result, mechanisms of uptake and radiation sensitization have remained difficult to clearly identify. This has proven a significant impediment to the identification of optimal GNP formulations which strike a balance among their radiation sensitizing properties, their specificity to the tumors, their biocompatibility, and their imageability in vivo. This white paper reviews the current state of knowledge in each of the areas concerning the use of GNPs as radiosensitizers, and outlines the steps which will be required to advance GNP-enhanced radiation therapy from their current pre-clinical setting to clinical trials and eventual routine usage. The present article describes the preparation of β-emitter lutetium-177-labeled zirconia colloid and its preliminary physicochemical and biological evaluation of suitability for local radionuclide therapy. The new (177)Lu-labeled therapeutic radiopharmaceutical candidate was based on the synthesis mode of a previously described zirconia nanoparticle system. The size and shape of the developed radiopharmaceutical compound were observed through a scanning electron microscope and dynamic light scattering methods. The radiocolloid had a 1.7 μm mean diameter and showed high in vitro radiochemical and colloid size stability at room temperature and during the blood sera stability test. After the in vitro characterizations, the product was investigated in the course of the treatment of a spontaneously diseased dog veterinary patient's hock joint completed with single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging follow-up measurements and a dual-isotope SPECT imaging tests with conventional (99m)Tc-methanediphosphonic acid bone scintigraphy. In the treated dog, no clinical side-effects or signs of histopathological changes of the joints were recorded during the treatment. SPECT follow-up studies clearly and conspicuously showed the localization of the (177)Lu-labeled colloid in the hock joint as well as detectable but negligible leakages of the radiocolloid in the nearest lymph node. On the basis of biological follow-up tests, the orthopedic team assumed that the (177)Lu-labeled zirconia colloid-based local radionuclide therapy resulted in a significant and long-term improvement in clinical signs of the patient without any remarkable side-effects.
