We report experimental results of time-resolved 2d-SAXS measurements for a polystyrene- block -poly(ethylene- co -butylene)- block -polystyrene (SEBS) triblock copolymer as-cast film, which was subjected to a planar flow gradually imposed in the heating process of the specimen at a ramp-up rate of 2 °C/min. Before heating, non-equilibrium spheres were formed in the specimen. At 144 °C, the spheres were found to completely transform into cylinders. Some extent of cylinder orientation (0.5 in orientation factor) was already achieved, even at that temperature the strain of the specimen was as low as 0.5. From this fact, the directional coalescence of non-equilibrium spheres along with the planar flow direction (FD) was implied. As temperature increased, it was found the progress of the cylinder orientation parallel to FD as well as the orientation of the ( 1 0 1 ¯ 0 ) planes of hexagonal lattice parallel to the substrate surface. The fraction of the peak-top intensities of the ( 1 1 2 ¯ 0 ) reflections, I ( 11 2 ¯ 0 ) / ( I ( 10 1 ¯ 0 ) + I ( 11 2 ¯ 0 ) ) , was evaluated to examine the change in the orientational state of hexagonal lattice during application of the planar flow. The fraction was found to moderately increase with strain. However, the fraction of the grains, in which the ( 1 0 1 ¯ 0 ) planes are parallel to the specimen surface, is as low as 0.07 even at the highest strain state. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, heat transfer in a square cavity filled with a Phase Change Material (PCM) under a sinusoidal wall temperature during solidification and melting is analyzed. All surfaces of the cavity are insulated except one surface, which is under the sinusoidal temperature change. The governing equations and boundary conditions are made dimensionless to reduce the number of governing parameters into two as dimensionless frequency and Stefan number. The governing equations were solved numerically by using Finite Volume Method for a wide range of Stefan number (0.1 < Ste < 1.0) and dimensionless frequency (0.23 < ω * < 2.04). Based on the obtained results, a chart in terms of Stefan number and dimensionless frequency is obtained to divide the heat transfer process in the cavity into three regions as uncompleted, completed, and overheated phase-change processes. For the uncompleted process, some parts of the cavity are inactive, and no phase change occurs in those parts of the cavity during the melting and freezing process. For the overheated phase change, the temperature of the cavity highly increases (or decreases), causing the sensible heat storage to compete with latent thermal storage. In the completed process, almost all thermal storage is done by the utilization of latent heat. The suggested graph helps thermal designers to avoid wrong designs and predict the type of thermal storage (sensible or latent) in the cavity without doing any computations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A metal-lustrous self-standing film, named “porphyrin foil”, was formed from a glass-forming polymeric porphyrin. The amorphous glass nature of the porphyrin foil played a key role in spontaneously producing a smooth surface. Abstract: We report a case of pulmonary nocardiosis in a 69-year-old man with rheumatoid arthritis who was receiving corticosteroid treatment. The patient received prednisolone for rheumatoid arthritis and antibiotics for his fever and pneumonia in another hospital, but the response to the therapy was poor. After admission to our hospital, he improved following treatment with imipenem/cilastatin for Nocardia asteroides . Pulmonary nocardiosis is difficult to diagnose and should be considered in the differential diagnosis, especially in an immunocompromised host. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
