This study attempts to enlighten the status of scenario planning studies and their content through a systematic literature review. A search of major databases (Scopus and Web of Science) was performed to determine relevant articles. Fifty-seven articles were identified and analysed according to their categories, themes, topics, and methods-techniques. Based on the content analysis of studies, two main categories, including seven themes, were identified: internal complexity of tourism (tourism planning and development, tourism education, tourism demand forecasting, and tourism types), external uncertainties (climate change and green economy, health care and security, and social media impacts). Though not many studies found, the categories, themes, topics and, methods-techniques of scenario planning studies in tourism and hospitality varies. However, there is still a need for scenario planning studies in tourism and hospitality literature. In this vein, an important implication of this study is that much remains to be done in benefiting from the scenario planning approach to contribute crisis management knowledge in tourism and hospitality research. The article "Plato, Locri and 'the Flower of Italy': Revaluating an 'Ancient' Epithet" by Edward J. Creedy explores the historical significance of the Greek colony of Epizephyrian Locris, known as Locri by the Romans. The article discusses the positive reputation of Locri as "the flower of Italy" attributed to Plato, but reveals that this epithet actually originated from the writings of the Italian scholar Leandro Alberti in the sixteenth century. The article examines Plato's references to Locri in his works and concludes that the title "the flower of Italy" was an Albertian attribution rather than a Platonic one. [Extracted from the article]

AbstractFreedom of association represents a basic human right, giving labor unions an essential role as stakeholders in protecting this freedom. Given this, CSR reports should contain information regarding labor union relations. This study, based on a content analysis of 81 CSR reports from US and European hospitality and tourism companies, examines how the reports depict their relationships with labor unions and, by implication, how they perceive them. In so doing, it presents a conceptual model for understanding the mechanisms that underlie companies’ portrayals of labor union relations in their CSR reports. Our analysis reveals a striking trend: the majority of companies do not mention unions at all, while some only make passing references to specific aspects of unions, such as employees’ rights to freedom of association. Only a minority provide detailed information that covers various aspects of union relations, including the number of unionized employees and the company’s framework for interacting with unions. This paper concludes by highlighting the work’s theoretical contributions and offering practical recommendations for reporting on union relations in CSR reports. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Simple Summary: This study examined the potential of insect-based diets or products for developing rural leisure tourism. The results indicate that insect-based diets or products can help revitalize the economy but are insufficient on their own to drive economic revitalization and stimulate consumption. Instead, improving public infrastructure and tourist facilities, expanding consumer options, and increasing the quality of tourism services and medical care are key for enhancing the use of insect-based diets or goods to stimulate leisure activities, tourism, and consumer engagement. This study analyzed the effects of insect-based diets on rural leisure activities, tourism, and consumption. A questionnaire survey was conducted, with 900 valid samples being obtained. The collected data were then analyzed through descriptive statistical analysis, a t-test, and a Pearson's product-moment correlation coefficient test by using the SPSS 26.0 statistical software. Subsequently, semistructured interviews were conducted to collect expert and public opinions on the analysis results. Finally, literature findings and the collected questionnaire and interview data were reviewed through multivariate validation analysis. According to the results, the public agrees that entomophagy culture and insect cuisine can enhance leisure and tourism appeal. Entomophagy culture can also stimulate rural economic, social, and environmental development as well as rural consumption. However, modern public infrastructure and medical facilities are still required to increase tourism accessibility. Local governments must improve public sanitation, moral standards, and the overall quality of tourism and living environments. They must also attract corporate investment and cultivate entrepreneurship among residents to develop new insect-based tourism and leisure activities, food, and products. These measures can enhance the influence of insects on the sustainable development of leisure activities, tourism, and economies in rural regions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a disruptive technology that is being used by smart tourist destinations (STDs) to develop new business models and marketing services to increase tourists' experiences and sales, revenue, productivity, and efficiency and STDs. However, the adoption of AI applications and platforms requires a high economic budget for STDs that want to integrate this digital tool into their future agenda and tourism development plans, especially when they set them up for marketing plans and operational processes. This iterative technology needs regular maintenance as well, leading to recurring costs and specialised crews in advanced technologies and marketing activities. This study aims to show the impact of AI advancements on STDs' tourism marketing to enhance the quality of services and illustrate their future agenda to improve tourists' experiences. A comprehensive literature review on AI technology and STDs has been conducted to illustrate new tourism marketing in their future agenda. Moreover, this study presents real examples of AI technology in a tourism context to better understand the potential of this digital tool. The findings of the current study support the idea that AI is a multipurpose tool that helps manage, monitor, and analyse sales information; revenue management; minimise prediction errors; streamline operations; and develop better marketing strategies, optimising economic resources, reducing marketing costs, and responding dynamically to changing needs for tourists and residents in STDs. Furthermore, the investment in AI technologies by STDs helps enhance the quality of products and services, and attract new investments, which benefit the regional economies and population's quality of life. This study is the first to address the use of AI to improve tourist marketing in STDs, which is its primary uniqueness. Also, this study identifies new opportunities and initiatives through AI that can be developed to help tourism marketing in STDs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

AbstractThis study addresses a research gap by introducing a pioneering theoretical framework for analyzing the projected image of Accessible Tourist Destinations (ATDs). Building on existing approaches to evaluating destination competitiveness and destination images, this framework was developed systematically codifying relevant literature, semi-structured interviews with people with disabilities, and expert panel consultations. The ATD model was tested by comparing analysis of official tourism websites from Spain and Portugal. The results show that ATDs combine functional attributes, such as technology, with key psychological characteristics, like an inclusive society and a tourism sector committed to accessibility. The findings suggest that a country’s tourism management structure may influence the competitive performance of local destinations. This study advances theories of competitiveness and destination image by incorporating the perspectives of tourists with disabilities. It provides practical insights for Destination Management Organizations (DMOs) to attract a more diverse market. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The concept of sustainable tourism represents a significant challenge for all tourist destinations. In particular, La Manga del Mar Menor is a destination with natural resources that have been affected in recent years by the pressures of mining and tourism. Although numerous studies have been conducted on this destination, none have focused on sustainable tourism marketing through an analysis of tourism promotion campaigns on television and social networks (2019-2023), before and after the pandemic. The objective of this article is to establish a synthesis between sustainable marketing and tourism destination planning [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Wellness tourism is a significant way to improve physical, psychological, and spiritual aspects. However, an appropriate scale for measuring the wellness tourism experience in academic research remains lacking. Most existing research had measured wellness tourism experience using full or part of the well-established tourism experience scales, ignoring the unique context of wellness tourism. Considering these issues, this paper first clarifies the essential connotations of the wellness tourism experience. Then, following the scale development process (literature review, content analysis, expert scoring, and two rounds of large-scale questionnaire surveys), this paper proposes the wellness tourism experience as a multidimensional construct comprising three dimensions, including "regain health," "escape from stress" and "discover oneself." This study provides a scientific and reliable measurement tool for further exploration of the antecedents and consequences of the wellness tourism experience. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

AbstractArctic destinations are continually reshaping their global identities to manage external expectations about the region. Existing portrayals of Greenland often stereotype the area as untouched wilderness or oversimplify its social, economic, and cultural realities. Our study combines visual analysis of cultural landscape and cultural ecosystem services (CES) to unveil a novel narrative in Greenland’s sustainable tourism branding we termed ‘landscape as homeland’. Empirically this research is based on the photographic database of Greenland’s national destination marketing organization. We explore Greenland’s destination branding as a strategic tool to define local meanings of sustainable tourism, homeland, and “Arcticness” in a branding that distinctively positions itself amidst Arctic destinations. Using pictured landscape as a dwelling place discerns locally valued CES, and realigns tourist engagements toward a culturally and ecologically integrated relationship. Applications of these findings extend to other rapidly changing regions seeking to expand economic opportunities, harnessing the synergy between destination branding and sustainable tourism. We reflect on the efficacy of our integrated CES and cultural landscape research to reveal local framings of the tourism-sustainability tension. We highlight the role of destination marketing organizations to bridge the gap between local identity, visitor expectations, and sustainable tourism development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Smart tourism utilizes communication and information technologies to enhance the visitor experience at tourist destinations. Integration of smart tourism concepts is particularly important in rural areas. By leveraging smart technologies, villages can promote their businesses and improve their tourism infrastructure. The aim of this study was to examine and analyze the factors influencing the development of smart tourism in tourism-oriented villages in eastern Kermanshah Province. Method: This study employed a descriptive-analytical research design. Data were collected through a combination of methods, including a documentary review of library resources and scientific journals, as well as field surveys using questionnaires. The information required for the study of smart rural tourism and its indicators was gathered based on the background literature and regional context. Out of a total of 1,191 rural households, a sample of 215 respondents was selected using Cochran’s formula with a 0.065% margin of error. The one-sample t-test was used to measure the level of smart rural tourism according to the type of data, drawing from Pearson correlation tests. To analyze the impacts of the examined factors on smart rural tourism, the CRITIC weighting and COCOSO ranking methods were used based on the type of data. Additionally, factor analysis was conducted to further explore the impacts of the factors on smart rural tourism. For the statistical analyses, JAMOVI software was utilized, while GIS software was employed for spatial analysis. Findings: The results indicated that the concept of smart rural tourism was characterized by a set of indicators related to smart economy, smart governance, smart infrastructure, smart people, smart connectivity, and smart education. The one-sample t-test revealed that among the indicators of smart rural tourism, the indices of smart governance, smart people, smart economy, and smart education were the most important factors in the studied villages. Specifically, the mean scores for smart governance and smart people were 3.95, while the mean scores for smart economy and smart education were 3.90, suggesting these were the most influential components of smart rural tourism in the research context. SUSTAINABILITY , *SUSTAINABLE tourism , *COVID-19 pandemic , *ENVIRONMENTAL management , *TOURIST attractions , *TOURISM websites - Abstract
This work conducts a rigorous examination of the economic influence of tourism in Saudi Arabia, with a particular focus on predicting tourist spending patterns and classifying spending behaviors during the COVID-19 pandemic period and its implications for sustainable development. Utilizing authentic datasets obtained from the Saudi Tourism Authority for the years 2015 to 2021, the research employs a variety of machine learning (ML) algorithms, including Decision Trees, Random Forests, K-Neighbors Classifiers, Gaussian Naive Bayes, and Support Vector Classifiers, all meticulously fine-tuned to optimize model performance. Additionally, the ARIMA model is expertly adjusted to forecast the economic landscape of tourism from 2022 to 2030, providing a robust predictive framework for future trends. The research framework is comprehensive, encompassing diligent data collection and purification, exploratory data analysis (EDA), and extensive calibration of ML algorithms through hyperparameter tuning. This thorough process tailors the predictive models to the unique dynamics of Saudi Arabia's tourism industry, resulting in robust forecasts and insights. The findings reveal the growth trajectory of the tourism sector, highlighted by nearly 965,073 thousand tourist visits and 7,335,538 thousand overnights, with an aggregate tourist expenditure of SAR 2,246,491 million. These figures, coupled with an average expenditure of SAR 89,443 per trip and SAR 9198 per night, form a solid statistical basis for the employed predictive models. Furthermore, this research expands on how ML and AI innovations contribute to sustainable tourism practices, addressing key aspects such as resource management, economic resilience, and environmental stewardship. By integrating predictive analytics and AI-driven operational efficiencies, the study provides strategic insights for future planning and decision-making, aiming to support stakeholders in developing resilient and sustainable strategies for the tourism sector. This approach not only enhances the capacity for navigating economic complexities in a post-pandemic context, but also reinforces Saudi Arabia's position as a premier tourism destination, with a strong emphasis on sustainability leading into 2030 and beyond. This paper applies information dissemination theory, consumer information behavior theory, signaling theory, and value co-creation theory to investigate the effects of companies' online platform operations from a tourism company perspective. We gathered data from 51 listed tourism companies in China between 1992 and 2022 to test these impacts. Results showed that using online platforms could improve listed tourism companies' performance, but not all platforms played the same role. Of the three online platforms we tested, official websites and WeChat accounts had significant positive influences on listed tourism companies' performance; Weibo had no effect. Group research revealed that online platforms most effectively enhanced hotels' performance, followed by comprehensive tourism companies. Resource tourism companies received no obvious impact. Aim: The aim of this study is to understand the development of windsports and the challenges faced by wind-based leisure activities. Methods: The socio-historical dynamics behind the development of wind leisure are analysed on the basis of specialised tourism blogs, as well as a field study carried out in the Northeast Region of Brazil, combining ethnographic observations and semi-structured interviews with 6 wind leisure enthusiasts. All the data is processed using the serious leisure perspective tools developed by Stebbins, and the body ecology tools developed by Andrieu et al. Results: The results show that wind sports provide a dual continuum. First of all, there are the practitioners, from Neophyte to Devotee Worker. Then there is the junction between land, water and air, where wind practices ensure a dual aesthetic. On the one hand, riders are united by a community of flow, emotion and sensation mediated by their relationship with the wind and the creation of play materials (waves, lagoons, trade winds). On the other hand, the tourist development of these practices serves a political narrative based on postcard aesthetics, enabling wind concessions to be traded for the development of wind farms. Conclusion: this original research calls for a more systematic exploration of wind practices and the hybridisation of natural elements, which seems to illustrate the crisis that modern sport and its institutions are going through today. This study focuses on four traditional earthen–wooden villages in Hunan Province, exploring the multifaceted impacts of tourism development on the quality of life from the perspectives of both residents and tourists. Utilizing structural equation modeling, this research examines how macro-level cultural resources, meso-level spatial characteristics, and micro-level traditional architecture influence the development of cultural tourism and its subsequent effects on quality of life. The findings indicate that while cultural resources and spatial characteristics positively contribute to the quality of cultural tourism development, traditional architecture presents a complex challenge. Specifically, traditional architecture negatively impacts quality of life due to maintenance demands and modernization pressures, yet it also enhances cultural tourism through its intrinsic heritage value. Spatial characteristics are identified as the most significant positive factor, indirectly enhancing both tourism quality and overall life satisfaction by enriching the cultural landscape. Additionally, the study uncovers significant differences in how residents and tourists perceive the impacts of tourism. Tourists generally seek enriching and authentic experiences, while residents are more directly affected by the socio-economic and environmental changes brought by tourism. This divergence highlights the need for balanced and targeted management strategies that address the distinct needs and perceptions of both groups at various stages of tourism development. By addressing these dynamic factors, this study offers valuable insights for policymakers and administrators aiming to balance heritage preservation with sustainable economic growth in traditional earthen–wooden villages. The research also underscores the critical role of community engagement and adaptive strategies in fostering resilient and thriving rural communities in the 21st century. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The intense competition amongst travel apps, regardless of their popularity, has made repurchase intention a critical financial challenge for travel providers. By combining the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) framework and the New Economic Geography (NEG) theory, this research examined how city tier disparities influence the experiential features of travel apps and user repurchase intentions. Survey data was acquired from 739 travel app users in China. The findings indicate that a set of context-based experiential features significantly influences utilitarian and hedonic values, and consequently leading to a notable increase in repurchase intentions. In addition, the outcomes of a multigroup analysis revealed that China's users located in tier 1 city (i.e. Beijing) and tier 3 city (i.e. Kunming) had distinct effects on the hypothesised relationships. Theoretically, the research provides extensive implications to information systems and tourism literatures; whilst offering some actionable insights to travel practitioners. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The concept of sustainable tourism development is derived from sustainable development. Building tourism with the framework of sustainable development has become a necessary effective way. This study examined the abstracts and titles of 1783 sustainable development and 692 sustainable tourism development related papers from 2012 to 2021 as textual data sources through the Web of Science core database. Using text mining and semantic network as analysis methods, this paper summarizes eight main clusters of sustainable development and sustainable tourism development in the past 10 years. Based on this, this paper compares the differences between the two researches and explores four potential research areas in sustainable tourism development: (1) threats to sustainability; (2) ecology and health; (3) stakeholder cooperation and roles; and (4) tourism development planning. In addition, the visual network knowledge structure intuitively captures the relationship between the different keywords in the clustering, which provides an important reference value for broadening the future research direction of sustainable tourism development. The text discusses the field of ecolinguistics, which explores the relationship between language and ecology. The special issue of the Journal of World Languages focuses on the influence of language on our perceptions of nature and society. The contributions in this issue analyze various types of discourse, such as advertising, tourism, politics, and online communication, to uncover how language shapes and is shaped by societal imaginaries. Ecolinguistics can be seen as a critical paradigm that challenges dominant narratives and promotes environmental stewardship. It also explores more positive approaches that emphasize cultural sensitivity and inclusivity. The special issue includes research articles that examine topics such as corporate advertising, tourism promotion, indigenous knowledge, youth-generated environmental discourses, animal imagery in digital discourse, news reports on elephants, and the representation of nature in language textbooks. The future of ecolinguistic research lies in exploring indigenous and local knowledge systems, analyzing environmental narratives in media and politics, and intersecting with fields like ecopsychology and environmental education. The goal is to develop a deeper understanding of how language can contribute to a sustainable future. [Extracted from the article]

In recent years, cultural tourism has increasingly embraced museum visits. Museums serve as both cultural heritage guardians and integral parts of tourist destinations, significantly impacting visitor satisfaction and experience. Moreover, online museum reviews have become a crucial indicator of museum service quality, visitor experience, and public feedback in the digital age. An analysis of online reviews on major tourism websites and social media platforms can assist museums in developing appropriate management strategies. This study employed the structural topic model (STM) to analyze online museum reviews, identifying three primary attributes of museums and visitors' personal experiences, as well as 19 sub-attributes. The study confirmed that core offerings have a positive impact on visitor experience and satisfaction, while peripheral services and overall ambiance are also positively related to visitor experience and satisfaction. Furthermore, the results of structural equation modeling demonstrated that visitors' personal experiences have a positive impact on satisfaction. The results of structural equation modeling analysis support all seven hypothesized relationships. These findings will assist museum managers in developing effective management strategies and future plans. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study, leveraging search engine data, investigates the dynamics of China's domestic tourism markets in response to the August 2022 epidemic outbreak in Xinjiang. It focuses on understanding the reaction mechanisms of tourist-origin markets during destination crises in the post-pandemic phase. Notably, the research identifies a continuous rise in the potential tourism demand from tourist origin cities, despite the challenges posed by the epidemic. Further analysis uncovers a regional disparity in the growth of tourism demand, primarily influenced by the economic stratification of origin markets. Additionally, the study examines key tourism attractions such as Duku Road, highlighting its resilient competitive system, which consists of distinctive tourism experiences, economically robust tourist origins, diverse tourist markets, and spatial pattern stability driven by economic factors in source cities, illustrating an adaptive response to external challenges such as crises. The findings provide new insights into the dynamics of tourism demand, offering a foundation for developing strategies to bolster destination resilience and competitiveness in times of health crises. The COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted the tourism sector, disrupting travel and centralising a shift towards domestic tourism. This study examines the changing preferences and demands of travellers to promote the recovery and sustainability of domestic tourism. The research conducted 1 034 online surveys with the general public to analyse their travel behaviours and preferences concerning domestic tourism activities willing to participate in. The findings indicate that despite limited disposable income, a significant portion of the South African population possesses discretionary income and is interested in participating in tourism activities. Travel preferences are influenced by various socio-economic and demographic factors. Changing patterns in destination choices and activities are also noted, which influence travel behaviour and related tourism consumption/ demand for products and experiences, marketing and impacts. Respondents are knowledgeable of and attracted to many domestic tourism products in South Africa, with social and nature-based tourism being prominent. Monitoring domestic tourism trends can inform marketing strategies and product development. Additionally, awareness and communication strategies should be improved, and incentives should be provided to encourage local travel. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DIGITAL technology , *SOCIAL media , *TOURIST attractions , *COMMUNICATION infrastructure , *AREA studies , *TOURISM websites - Abstract
Digital technologies and the practices that follow, from reviews and recommendations on websites to content on social media platforms characterised by real-time connectivity are now inseparable from tourist experiences. Further, the technological, and infrastructural configurations that underpin digital practices in tourism are increasingly impinged upon by non-human actors (such as algorithms and data governance and regulatory measures). This special issue considers the ways in which data in the form of content, digital infrastructures and algorithmic governance shape and transform knowledge generated within and about tourism destinations and the populations who inhabit them. We focus on digital technologies as part of emerging media technologies to emphasise the material and regulatory assemblages that are increasingly inseparable from automated processes that facilitate the collection and appropriation of data on behalf of digital platform corporations. Emerging media technologies in the tourist encounter consider such engagements across different sensory exchanges, where tourists experience other places, landscapes, weather, people, sights and knowledge. Significant issues related to the role of digital technologies such as the inequalities they may perpetuate through the platformization of tourist destinations, the impacts of 'smartness' and the ways in which digital infrastructures are embedded in wider geopolitical relations of territorialization and contestation have been increasingly recognised in tourism geographies, yet comparative regional studies are still limited. We establish a research agenda to call for further, comparative research into the unfolding consequences of the role of digital infrastructures and algorithmic governance in the shaping of tourism destinations and the practices that follow. The development of tourism village websites aims to promote the potential of tourism villages in Indonesia. However, the increasing use of social media has reduced the intensity of websites being used. This research aims to determine whether the tourism village websites still influence tourists to visit the tourism village and whether it is relevant to the government's goals. Data was collected by distributing questionnaires and producing a valid sample of 242 respondents who actively use the Internet and have the potential to travel. The research model design was created by combining the DeLone & McLean IS success model with the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Data were analysed using the Structural Equation Modeling Partial Least Square (SEM PLS). The results show that the variables of information quality, service, and design positively affect trust, usability, ease of use, and enjoyment, positively affecting the intention to use the website. However, trust does not significantly influence the intention to use the website on the acceptance model. The frequent use of the tourism village website positively affects the tourist's motivation for the actual visit. Therefore, deeper analysis is needed to determine the variables that affect tourist confidence in developing acceptance models for further research. In addition, this research has practical implications for the government in making decisions regarding developing tourism village websites in terms of interface, user experience, information, and features. Safari holidays are now a major part of the African tourist industry and food has become an essential aspect of the adventure. In the late nineteenth century, rugged imperialist explorers shot and consumed many of the large African animals, while after the First World War, luxury safaris for the rich became the norm. First as gentlemen explorers, and then as guides on hunting safaris, 'Great White Hunters' and their pervasive ideology of muscular Christianity prevailed. The period from the late nineteenth through the first part of the twentieth century is looked back upon as the golden age of the safari. Today, many safari tourists are provided with 'fine cuisine', but with accompanying 'nods' to the food of this golden age. At the same time, some safari guides provide reenactments of cooking on an open fire in the bush. Safari lodges and camps have had to cater to an increasing diversity of tourists and to manage the disruption caused by the Covid pandemic. Online advertisements for Safari companies depict carefully organized meals with views across the African savannah where dangerous encounters with wild animals may be envisaged. The companies often promote subtle and nostalgic invocations of the past providing the tourists with a 'back in time tourism'. In preparing this article, books on safari cuisine, accounts by safari guides and some individual tourists, and many safari company online websites were studied. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Hotel booking websites to collect information about hospitality products/services are becoming more popular in the hotel industry. As a result, the importance of these websites for tourism firms marketing their services and products through electronic word of mouth (eWOM) on these hotel booking websites continues to grow. Despite its importance, there has been little research on how guests interact with information to increase eWOM. This paper creates a new scale for assessing guest interaction with Meituan.com information to fill this void. To this end, a three-step mixed-methods approach using open-ended surveys and published relevant research is used. Data were gathered from 440 hotel guests in Taiwan, China, and Hong Kong. Using SmartPLS 4, confirmatory factor analysis revealed 33 final items for the new scale. This paper significantly contributes to potential guest behavior by creating and confirming this new scale in the hospitality context. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper examines the government's strong interest in Indonesia's economic activities, especially in the context of post-COVID-19 economic recovery. The objective is to qualitatively analyze economic recovery strategies, especially in the MSME and tourism sectors, which have a significant impact on economic growth. A dynamic systems approach with qualitative methods was applied for collecting data through interviews, observations, and the use of secondary data from authentic articles. The findings highlight the need for support in the MSME sector, including improving the quality of human resources, financial management, tax incentives, credit relief and restructuring, increased working capital financing, product support, and e-learning training. The tourism sector requires innovation and diversification in the areas of product development, destinations, and tourism infrastructure management. This study makes a novel contribution by presenting a qualitative system dynamics conceptual model for post-COVID-19 economic recovery strategies. Future research will focus on testing and validating the components of this model in the context of MSMEs and tourism and will help policymakers, management teams, and relevant stakeholders in their efforts to recover MSMEs and tourism sectors from the impacts of disasters. This will have a significant impact on everyone involved. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Sports have historically played a significant role in influencing travel, the twenty-first century witnessing a notable surge in sports tourism attributed largely to increasing globalisation and the pervasive influence of social media. International sports events hosted by countries and cities serve as potent platforms for tourist promotion, with meticulous attention to detail often reflected across various social media channels. Notably, recent editions of such events have seen women taking on crucial roles. This paper delves into the FIFA Women's World Cup Final held in Sydney, Australia, in August 2023, analysing three distinct corpora to discern linguistic resources--the use of persuasion with personal pronouns and imperatives, among others--shaping tourism media discourse, specifically focusing on gender visibility and promotion of destination excellence. To conduct this research, we compiled a corpus of 11,549 words comprising webpages, online publications and tourism blogs, using AntConc software for the analysis. Our findings reveal that the media employ specific language choices to portray the event and its host city, projecting values such as teamwork and inclusion, often through community engagement. However, there exists an under-representation of coverage concerning sportswomen, with minimal linguistic patterns used to promote their visibility beyond the event's title. Conversely, the host city receives extensive promotion. Consequently, this analysis serves as a pertinent case study contributing to the understanding of sports tourism media discourse representation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Slow tourism has been implemented in rural areas and small towns in China for over a decade. However, the effectiveness of utilizing blogs or vlogs for promoting slow tourism destinations varies significantly. This study explored the reasons for the differences in marketing effectiveness of slow tourism destinations from the perspective of audience resonance. A total of 231 college students participated in the study and PLS-SEM was employed for hypothesis testing. The study results revealed positive impacts of value accord, expectation fitting, and cultural credibility on cognitive resonance. Additionally, there were positive impacts of slowness, self-congruence, and entertainment on emotional resonance. These factors further contribute to audience resonance in slow tourism. Emotional resonance turned out to be the driving factor of audience resonance. In addition, this research has also proved that the degree of resonance is the same whether the information carrier is text, photo, or video. No prior research has quantitatively validated the audience resonance in a slow tourism setting. This study addresses this knowledge gap and adds to the body of knowledge on slow tourism marketing and resonance theory [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The burgeoning field of sustainable tourism in historically significant urban districts has derived increasing attention in tandem with broader urban economic development. The perceived image of a tourist destination significantly affects tourist consumption behaviors and destination choices, while negative evaluations provide destination managers with insights for targeted improvements to tourist amenities, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of these historically significant districts. This study leveraged Python 3.12.3 software to collect online textual data from popular tourism websites, specifically Ctrip 8.71.4 and Mafengwo 11.1.7. Then, ROST CM6.0 software facilitated high-frequency word analysis, network semantic analysis, and sentiment analysis to outline the perceived image and characteristics of the Macau Historic District, a UNESCO World Heritage site, from the perspective of tourists. The findings are as follows: (1) The image of the Historic Centre of Macao as a tourist destination comprises four primary dimensions: cultural (16.02%), landscape (30.85%), emotional (16.97%), and local (36.16%). (2) Tourists perceive the Historic Centre of Macao as a blend of dynamism and tranquility, tradition, and modernity. (3) Emotional evaluations of the Historic Centre of Macao as a tourist destination are primarily positive (85.45%), whereas negative sentiments constitute 5.76%, with recurring themes pertaining to overcrowding, high prices, a lack of interactive experiences at attractions, excessive commercialization, and insufficient public rest facilities. These findings offer valuable directives for the future planning and development of tourism in Macau, a city recognized for its World Heritage status. (4) In summary, the thematic image of the Historic Centre of Macao can be considered authentic, romantic, and commercialized. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The analysis of the spatial distribution of tourism resources and the identification of its influencing factors are crucial for supporting the sustainable development of regional tourism. This study established a comprehensive database of tourism resources in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region (Ningxia) through a combination of literature review and field research. It examined the quantitative, qualitative, and categorical characteristics of tourism resources in Ningxia, and determined the spatial patterns based on kernel density and spatial association analysis. This study also comprehensively evaluated the societal, economic, and environmental factors influencing the spatial distribution of tourism resources in the entire region by employing the geographical detector model to quantify the influence of each factor. The following results were obtained. (1) There were 29218 individual tourism resources in Ningxia, comprising eight main types, 23 subtypes, and 105 fundamental types, and they exhibit a hierarchical pyramidal structure. (2) The tourism resources in Ningxia displayed characteristics of "widespread regional dispersion and limited regional agglomeration". The spatial distribution of tourism resources was highly imbalanced, and most types of tourism resources exhibit strong positive spatial correlation. (3) The altitude, annual precipitation, population density, distance from urban centers, urbanization rate, and per capita GDP were identified as significant factors influencing the spatial distribution of tourism resources in Ningxia. Based on the results, we recommend that the government should formulate tourism development policies in Ningxia based on local conditions to effectively address the spatial imbalances, enhance the sustainability of tourism development, and continue to promote high-quality tourism development in Ningxia. This qualitative study examines the portrayal of Indonesian migrant women workers in Türkiye by major Indonesian online media outlets from 2018 to 2023. Using content analysis, the research explores dominant media representations surrounding workers in Türkiye's care service and tourism sectors. Findings reveal patterns of precarious work, exploitation, and vulnerability to undocumented employment, particularly involving Syrian employers. The study highlights a significant shift in media coverage from sensationalist reporting to echoing government narratives on combating undocumented migration. This shift aligns with Indonesia's labor-export policy reforms under President Jokowi, which aim to promote labor migration to formal sectors and distance the country's image from domestic worker exports. The research demonstrates how media reflects and reinforces state migrant protection policies through "domesticated protection." However, this approach inadvertently perpetuates victimization and potentially exacerbates vulnerabilities by stigmatizing unofficial migration channels. While intended to safeguard workers, stringent regulations may if not already contribute to increased undocumented migration. By analyzing the nexus between media representation, state policies, and migrant precarities, this study contributes to understanding the complex dynamics of labor migration in an emerging corridor, calling for a more nuanced approach to media coverage, policy-making, and future studies that acknowledges both migrant agency and structural challenges [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
