La concurrence appliquée à la grande vitesse ferroviaire est sans doute bénéfique pour accroitre les performances des opérateurs de transport, comme le montre l'article de F. Antoniazzi et al (2019). Mais l'est-elle pour les territoires ? L'article analyse alors les motivations et intérêts de quatre acteurs différents par rapport à la grande vitesse ferroviaire: les voyageurs, les transporteurs, le gestionnaire de réseau et les territoires. Notre hypothèse principale est que la concurrence renforce la dynamique propre des réseaux qui favorise les pôles, le débit et la massification dans une logique de métropolisation. Elle accentue par conséquent les contrastes territoriaux. Les territoires, eux-mêmes en concurrence, permettent d'amortir à la marge l'effet d'archipel issu des réseaux à grande vitesse. Entre le temps court de la concurrence et celui plus long de la cohésion territoriale, les formes de la régulation entre les différentes parties prenantes restent à inventer.

According to the evolution tendency of the control decision process from a trackside to a train-borne system, various autonomous localization units for railway vehicles were developed. As recommended in railway standards, the design process of each system, here the autonomous localization units (LU), follows the V-model whose first step is to define its availability requirement in order to satisfy the global ETCS system requirements. The classical approach for assigning the subsystem availability is based on the assumption that failure parameters of other units are precisely known. This assumption is too restricted in reality due to the lack of information. In this paper, we propose a new approach that allows taking into account uncertainties in the dependability parameters of the ETCS components for identifying the upper threshold of the LU unavailability to reach ETCS availability requirements. Using fuzzy fault trees, the fuzzy unavailability of the ETCS without the autonomous LU is evaluated. Then, based on its membership function, we assess the satisfaction rate that an advanced ETCS with the autonomous LU can satisfy the ETCS availability target.

The subject of this research is intercity passenger rail transportation in the United States, approached from two perspectives: Amtrak’s traditional rail services and high-speed rail projects. The aim is to understand the workings of public rail transportation policies, what they contain, and how they are developed and pursued by the different actors. The originality of the research lies in its multiscale approach, with a constant back-and-forth between the different scales of analysis, and in its use of several case studies to analyze the territorialization of intercity rail transportation policies. The analysis demonstrates the emergence of a bottom-up approach to projects, notably apparent in the Californian HSR project and in the modernization of the Cascades corridor. This process has even gone to the extreme with the proliferation of private rail projects that stress their independence from government, be it in decision-making, governance, or funding. This seems definitively to preclude any attempt to establish a national framework for high-speed rail, like those found elsewhere in the world, regardless of party-political considerations, i.e. the traditionally greater enthusiasm of the Democratic Party for large-scale federal investment. Two conclusions emerge: first, the development of uniform arguments and recommendations to encourage new rail policies, emphasizing the structuring effects and economic role of highspeed rail, congestion reduction, modal shift; second, a tangible though uneven pro-rail position among public actors at all levels. Priority is placed on improving and modernizing existing corridors for the launch of higher-speed services, and then on hybrid networks that combine different types of infrastructures. There are no publicly backed projects for new lines exclusively dedicated to high-speed rail. Most of the high-speed corridors are in fact “higher-speed” corridors, some of which are intended to become high-speed at some time in the future, such as the Northeast corridor. The territorialization of rail projects entails the design and construction of transportation networks that are more integrated – at least in terms of service provision and physical connection – and genuinely interconnected. After analyzing projects for the upgrading of higher-speed corridors and the construction of new infrastructures, we note the importance of stations and the emphasis on the need for better coordination between transportation and urbanism through support for station districts. Indeed, a rail corridor project – situated at the intersection of political, economic, technical, and territorial interests – is the nucleus of a process of territorialization that materially embeds the infrastructure within urban spaces, and of a process of politicization through the involvement of local actors. Rail projects seem to be an instrument that leads to the implantation of metropolitan scale facilities (stations, intermodal hubs) and to the shaping or reshaping of the urban fabric (station districts, larger-scale district regeneration projects).; Cette recherche a pour objet le transport ferroviaire interurbain de passagers aux Etats-Unis dans une double acception : les services ferroviaires classiques d’Amtrak et les projets de grande vitesse ferroviaire. Il s’agit de comprendre comment les politiques publiques concernant le mode ferroviaire fonctionnent, ce qu’elles contiennent et la manière dont elles sont élaborées et portées par les différents acteurs. L’originalité de la recherche repose sur son approche multiscalaire avec un aller-retour continu entre les différentes échelles d’analyse et sur son ambition d’analyser la territorialisation des politiques en faveur du mode ferroviaire interurbain grâce à plusieurs études de cas. L’analyse met en évidence le fait que s’impose une approche bottom-up pour le portage des projets, c’est le cas notamment pour le projet californien de GVF californien et la modernisation du corridor des Cascades. Cette logique est même poussée à l’extrême avec la multiplication de ces projets ferroviaires privés qui revendiquent leur indépendance par rapport à la puissance publique tant en termes de prise de décision que de gouvernance ou de financement. Cela semble éloigner définitivement toute tentative de définition d’un schéma national pour la grande vitesse ferroviaire, sur le modèle de ce qui s’est passé dans les pays historiques de la GVF, au-delà des considérations partisanes – c’est-à-dire de l’engagement traditionnellement plus fort du parti démocrate dans les grands investissements fédéraux. Deux conclusions en ressortent : en premier lieu, une uniformisation de cet argumentaire et des préconisations pour encourager de nouvelles politiques ferroviaires – effets structurants, rôle économique de la grande vitesse, lutte contre la congestion, report modal ; en second lieu, un engagement à toutes les échelles, tangible mais à divers degrés, des acteurs publics en faveur du mode ferroviaire. Il n’y a pas de projets, portés par des acteurs publics, de nouvelles lignes exclusivement réservées à la GVF. L’essentiel des corridors à grande vitesse concerne des corridors à vitesse élevée (higher speed rail) dont certains ont vocation à devenir à plus ou moins long terme à grande vitesse comme le corridor Nord-Est. Le projet californien, quant à lui, repose en partie sur la réalisation d’une nouvelle infrastructure mais aussi sur l’utilisation de tronçons existants améliorés. La territorialisation des projets ferroviaires passe par la conception et la mise en œuvre de réseaux de transport davantage intégrés – au moins sur le plan de la desserte et de la connexion physique – selon une véritable logique réticulaire. Après analyse des projets de modernisation de corridors à vitesse élevée et de construction de nouvelles infrastructures, nous constatons l’importance des gares et une mise à l’agenda d’une meilleure coordination entre transports et urbanisme par le soutien aux quartiers de gare. En effet, un projet de corridor ferroviaire, qui se trouve au croisement d’intérêts politiques, économiques, techniques et territoriaux, est bien au centre d’un processus de territorialisation qui inscrit matériellement l’infrastructure dans les espaces urbains, et d’un processus de politisation par une mobilisation des acteurs locaux. Les projets ferroviaires apparaissent comme un instrument permettant l’implantation d’équipements à l’échelle métropolitaine (gares, pôles intermodaux) et la structuration ou la reconfiguration du tissu urbain (quartiers de gare, projets plus vastes de renouvellement d’un quartier).

Thorough preparation and anticipation are crucial organizational tools to address those challenges and enable proper reaction to crises. CM requires the joint effort of various stakeholders from different countries: public authorities, private companies, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), etc. need to collaborate under specific, locally different regulations. The present paper includes a brief introduction to the state of the art of CM of international railways with special regard to the topics partnerships, leadership & communication as well as training. As part of a research project, a survey with international crisis management experts was conducted. Based on the survey results, a handbook containing transnational recommendations regarding the involved stakeholders and their responsibilities is developed. Of course, existing CM concepts of relevant organizations are taken into consideration for the development. The handbook was discussed with end-users in the course of a project workshop. In addition, when the crisis management is required, the response is coordinated within the framework of the National Crisis Management System (NCMS). The cooperation between these NCMSs leads to the concept of System-of-Systems (SoS). Based on Supervision Control Theory (SCT), we propose a formal model built from decomposition of NCMSs using a multi-model approach. The resulted framework offers a global view of the SoS and resolves problems of system's dependence and of operating mode management. The proposed model is designed by using the High Level Petri Nets (HLPNs) formalism and is illustrated with a crisis of a railway system. The main result of this paper is the comprehensive knowledge of current crisis management strategies in the context of cross-border incidents. Weaknesses in the existing system are identified and two approaches that seek to enhance CM are introduced.

TRA 2018, 7th Transport Research Arena, Vienne, AUTRICHE, 16-/04/2018 - 19/04/2018; In the context of the Franco-German research project Re(h)strain, this work focuses on a global system analysis integrating both safety and security analysis of international and/or urban railway stations. The Re(h)strain project focuses on terrorist attacks on high speed train systems and investigates prevention and mitigation measures to reduce the overall vulnerability and strengthen the system resilience. One main criterion regarding public transport issues is the number of passengers. For example, the railway station of Paris 'Gare du Nord' deals with a bigger number of passengers than the biggest airport in the world (SNCF open Data 2014), the Atlanta airport, but in terms of passengers, it is only around the 23rd rank railway station in the world. Due to the enormous mass of people, this leads to the system approach of breaking out the station into several classes of zones, e.g. entrance, main hall, quays, trains, etc. All classes are analysed considering state-of-the-art parameters, like targets attractiveness, feasibility of attack, possible damage, possible mitigation and defences. Then, safety incidence of security defence is discussed in order to refine security requirement with regard to the considered zone. Finally, global requirements of security defence correlated to the corresponding class of zones are proposed. A case study based on the works in Re(h)strain is used as an illustration to demonstrate how the above-mentioned security and safety requirements may be implemented and handled at train stations. Therefore, the different security measures proposed for an unaffected flow of passengers are correlated to existing ones, such as video surveillance and security personal patrolling. The results of sensor set-ups realised within the project and tested in real environment show new ways of implementing innovative techniques to security applications. Depending on the technology, sensor portals at the entrances of train stations or sensor nodes distributed throughout the station increase the level of protection achievable for the detection of threats as part of preventive security concepts. The fusion of data gained by different sensor systems, including person-tracking by non-visual object recognition and trailing, enables a core function of a security assistance system. This assistance system makes security personnel aware of threats and the location of possible carriers of suspicious material as a prior condition to successful intervention measures. The high level of automation reduces human intervention to a minimum. In the conclusion it will be recommended to think of international railway stations as complex interconnected systems which are made for sharing traffic flows. It means that thinking about local solutions may produce safety problems to connected zones due to possible overcrowding.

The Channel tunnel and the Eurostar TGV have been a great chance for the Nord-Pas-de-Calais Region replacing it in a European and French geography. The accompanying 'Transmanche plan (Cross Channel)' has provided new infrastructures, regional integration and new opportunities. Channel tunnel, TGV and Transmanche Plan permitted the openness to Europe and neighbourhood regions and replace definitely the Region in a European dynamic. Nevertheless, the present changing economic context, new political philosophy and the wear dried up the driving forces. If the development conditions are there it lacks a new vision and a new engine. The restructuration around the Channel tunnel concession, the Port of Calais and the rail market with new operators could be the challenge for a new development for the Kent - Nord-Pas-de-Calais maritime region., Le tunnel sous la Manche et le TGV Eurostar ont été une grande chance pour le Nord-Pas-de-Calais, le replaçant dans une géographie européenne et française. Le « plan Transmanche (Cross Channel) » d'accompagnement a fourni de nouvelles infrastructures, l'intégration régionale et de nouvelles opportunités. Tunnel, TGV et Plan transmanche ont permis l'ouverture vers l'Europe et les régions voisines et de replacer définitivement la région dans une dynamique européenne. Néanmoins, le changement actuel de contexte économique, la nouvelle philosophie politique et l'usure ont tari ces forces motrices. Si les conditions de développement sont là, il manque une nouvelle vision et un nouveau moteur. La restructuration autour de la concession du Tunnel sous la Manche, le port de Calais et le marché ferroviaire avec de nouveaux opérateurs pourraient être le défi pour un nouveau développement pour la région maritime du Kent/Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

We surf in addition the compatibility of these waveforms to the short packet communication and the MIMO technologies which are fundamental components of future wireless communication systems. Interesting solutions to the faced challenges in that regard are explored.

In accordance with the environmental concerns that national policies still address throughout the world, railways have been extensively studied to provide quantified indicators for assessing construction/operations practices. It is essential to take energy consumption, into account since energy can be measured worldwide, in addition to constituting a global environmental load that is time-limited as regards resource availability and known as a discriminating criterion in comparing transport infrastructure. This article introduces an innovative, generic and systemic method dedicated to determining the energy consumption of a railway line during the pre-project phase by taking into account the complete life cycle of the rail infrastructure, including construction, maintenance and operations. The method developed (called ≪PEAM ≫) focuses on assessing project variants during the design stage and therefore integrates both the geometric longitudinal constraints of the line and the thicknesses/volumes over the entire itinerary as design parameters for input into the various construction scenarios. PEAM combines methodologies stemming from life cycle assessment with a consumption model derived from physical modeling. The models associated with this method are then applied to study the energy consumption of a new high-speed line located in France that also has major implications for the European connections currently under investigation as well. Two project variants are compared in terms of total energy for a 50-year service life and a given characteristic rail traffic, including passenger and freight flows. Results obtained reveal a 30% difference between the two variants, which prior to applying PEAM were considered to be relatively similar.

The phenomena of settlement and wear of the ballast under dynamic stresses lead to high frequencies and high maintenance costs on high-speed railway lines. Studies have shown that these settlements are linked to high accelerations produced in the ballast by the passage of high-speed trains (HST). A layer of asphalt concrete (GB) was introduced under the ballast layer on the high-speed line Bretagne-Pays de Loire (BPL HSL). It is intended, among other things, to reduce the amplitude of accelerations produced at the passage of the HST and thus improve the durability of the track. The BPL HSL spans 105 km, with a sublayer of asphalt concrete under the ballast and 77 km with a granular sublayer (UGM). To evaluate the performance of the structures with bituminous sublayer and to compare it with traditional structures with granular sublayer, four track sections have been instrumented during construction. This article presents the different sensors of the instrumentation, as well as the acquisition system installed to collect measurements. The focus, in this study, concerns the temperature, water content, and vertical settlement measurements made on the instrumented sections. Temperature variations recorded during two years on the railway structure with bituminous sublayer were analyzed and compared with those measured on a classical bituminous pavement. Influence of the bituminous layer on water infiltration and track settlements has also been studied.

New high-speed rail transport infrastructures produce profound time-space changes that make new activities possible. Our aim is to measure the impact of such changes on potential business or leisure travel between cities.We develop a contact potential indicator (Törnqvist, 1970) that measures the possibility of making a trip to a distant location within the desirable time-space prism. The indicator is developed in the context of the high-speed rail line between Tours and Bordeaux.The results demonstrate the possibility of contact from a series of key cities affected by new high-speed rail infrastructure, both before and after project completion. Our analysis shows that Bordeaux benefits greatly from the extension of the rail line: the preferred method of contact to Paris will switch to rail from the current air preference, and several cities that cannot be reached in the current pre-project conditions will become 'contactable'. Other cities that benefit are Angoulême, Tours and Poitiers.; Les nouvelles infrastructures de transport ferroviaire provoquent de profondes transformations de l'espace-temps qui rendent de nouvelles activités possibles. Notre but est de mesurer les impacts de telles transformations sur le potentiel de déplacement pour motif affaires ou tourisme entre villes. Nous développons l'indicateur du potentiel de contact (Törnqvist, 1970) qui mesure la possibilité d'effectuer un déplacement vers un lieu distant dans les contraintes du prisme d'espace-temps de la time geography. L'indicateur est mis en oeuvre dans le contexte de l'ouverture de la ligne ferroviaire à grande vitesse entre Tours et Bordeaux. Les résultats démontrent la possibilité de contact entre un ensemble de villes clés affectées par la nouvelle infrastructure de transport rapide, avant et après son ouverture. Notre analyse montre que Bordeaux bénéficie grandement de l'extension de la ligne : le mode le plus favorable pour réaliser le potentiel de contact avec Paris bascule de l'aérien au ferroviaire, et plusieurs villes qui ne pouvaient pas être rejointes dans les conditions précédant la réalisation du projet ferroviaire, deviennent « contactables ». Les autres villes bénéficiaires sont Angoulême, Tours et Poitiers.

The dynamic response of a mechanically stabilized earth wall to the passing of a high-speed train is modelled using the finite element method. A three-dimensional analysis is carried out, using a specific framework that allows performing the analysis with a moderate computational effort. In the first place, a so-called multiphase approach is used to take into account the reinforcing strips. The moving load is taken into account by performing the calculation in a mobile referential using the properties of symmetry of the train cars and a simplifying assumption of periodicity for the whole train. We also assume a steady state. A partial validation of the approach is obtained by means of a comparison with an analytical solution. The quick increase in displacements induced by the train passing when the speed comes close to the celerity of Rayleigh waves clearly appears in the results. The vertical displacements, vertical stresses in the backfill,tensile forces in the strips and the influence of the stiffness of the soil are discussed.; La réponse dynamique d'un mur en sol renforcé au passage d'un train à grande vitesse est modélisée par éléments finis. Une analyse tridimensionnelle est effectuée, dans un cadre spécifique qui permet de faire le calcul pour un cout de calcul acceptable : d'une part, on utilise le modèle multiphasique pour prendre en compte les armatures ; d'autre part, on prend en compte le déplacement de la charge en effectuant le calcul dans un référentiel mobile ; enfin on tire parti des propriétés de symétrie des voitures et on fait une hypothèse simplificatrice de périodicité du train. On fait de plus l'hypothèse que l'on a atteint un régime permanent. Une validation partielle est obtenue par comparaison avec une solution analytique. L'augmentation des déplacements induits par le passage du train lorsque sa vitesse s'approche de la célérité des ondes de Rayleigh apparait clairement dans les résultats. Les déplacements verticaux, les contraintes verticales dans le remblai, les efforts de traction dans les armatures et l'influence de la raideur du remblai sont discutées.

In this context, rail has several advantages: lower consumption and emissions than road and air modes, larger passenger flow, etc. That is why, many rail infrastructures are planned in the world. Today, the impact of energy is not taken into account during the project design. At the project phase of new rail infrastructures, it is nowadays important to characterize accurately the energy that will be induced by its operation phase, in addition to other more classical criteria as construction costs and travel time. Current literature consumption models used to estimate railways operation phase are obsolete or not enough accurate for taking into account the newest train or railways technologies. In this paper, an updated model of consumption for high-speed is proposed, based on experimental data obtained from full-scale tests performed on a new high-speed line. The assessment of the model is achieved by identifying train parameters and measured power consumptions for more than one hundred train routes. Perspectives are then discussed to use this updated model for accurately assess the energy impact of future railway infrastructures.; Le système de transport n'est pas durable : sa consommation de ressources finies, et son impact sur l'environnement sont trop importante. Nous avons construit un modèle de consommation de train qui a été identifié sur différentes trajectoires. Ce modèle a été utilisé pour évaluer deux tracés de lignes à grande vitesse.

For almost twenty years, California has developed a high-speed rail project. After a homeric fail in the 1980s, the State of California has launched a new project in the 1990s. In 2008, the Californians voted the Proposition 1A, which allowed the State to finance the project. At the same time, the Federal Railroad Administration began to allocate funds for rail and high-speed rail projects across the United States. The 2008 election of Barack Obama, has made the political context even more favorable to the high-speed rail project. Nonetheless, six years later, with the republicans winning the majority in the U.S. Congress, the political struggle about high-speed rail remains sharp. Beyond the political context, essential to understand the spatial issues involved in the high speed-rail project, the Californian project raises three major concerns. First, we will examine the spatial and historical evolution of the railroads in the United States, in order to study the stakeholders and territories involved in the rail renewal. Then, we will question how these projects can affect mobility practices in the United States, but also the consecutive conflicts and their effects on urban restructuration.; Depuis plus de vingt ans, la Californie développe un projet de grande vitesse ferroviaire. Après un échec retentissant dans les années 1980, le Golden State relance un projet dès les années 1990, soutenu cette fois par l’administration fédérée. À partir des années 2000, et surtout de 2008, le projet connaît une accélération due à deux facteurs : le vote de la Proposition 1A en Californie, ce qui permet de débloquer un budget pour le projet, et des fonds fédéraux pour la grande vitesse ferroviaire prévus par la Federal Railroad Administration. Le contexte fédéral et fédéré, en lien avec l’arrivée de Barack Obama au pouvoir, peut donc apparaître comme favorable à la grande vitesse ferroviaire depuis 2008. Pourtant, six ans après et alors que les démocrates ont perdu toute majorité au Congrès, les débats politiques sur la question du financement de la grande vitesse ferroviaire aux États-Unis ne semblent pas s’apaiser. Au-delà du contexte politique, primordial pour comprendre les enjeux spatiaux des politiques ferroviaires états-uniennes, le projet de grande vitesse ferroviaire en Californie soulève trois enjeux majeurs. En partant d’une description des évolutions temporelles et spatiales des réseaux et politiques ferroviaires aux États-Unis, nous pourrons appréhender les acteurs et les territoires concernés par un possible renouveau ferroviaire nord-américain. Il s’agira alors de se demander par quelles pratiques d’appropriation – ou de réappropriation – ce renouveau peut se décliner, mais aussi de s’interroger sur les conséquences territoriales de tels projets, à la fois en termes d’ancrage territorial et de restructuration urbaine.

This paper is based on a development over the past 5 years in France which culminates in early 2013 with the construction of a demonstration of this ballastless trackform on the French network north of Paris. In this paper, we summarise the history of this development, " New Ballastless Track " (NBT) through the conceptual design phases, the extensive laboratory testing, culminating in the construction of the demonstration track. Construction will be completed in June 2013 and train operations are scheduled to start later in 2013. We complete our paper with our conclusions concerning the difference in life cycle costs between NBT and ballasted track. To that end, we confirm the conclusions of many previous studies over the past few years, while throwing some light on the parameters which will tend to accentuate the advantage of NBT.

Les travaux présentés dans ce mémoire constituent une contribution à un domaine de la maintenance corrective des dispositifs techniques : le diagnostic et plus précisément la localisation des pannes. Ces travaux se sont basés sur la mise en ?uvre du diagnostic d'une application réelle, la TVM 430, c'est à dire le système d'espacement et de signalisation en cabine des TGV. Tout en restant proche des problèmes soulevés par cette application, nous avons essayé de proposer une démarche générique applicable à d'autres types de dispositifs techniques. Nous avons opté pour le choix du diagnostic à base de modèle car il est bien adapté aux systèmes sur lesquels peu d'expertise est disponible. De plus la connaissance propre au dispositif est concentrée dans des modèles qui peuvent être crées à partir des seuls documents de conception. Les trois modèles structurel, comportemental et fonctionnel que nous avons utilisés pour contenir la connaissance sur le dispositif ont été choisis en fonction de leur utilisation, le diagnostic, et en fonction des informations disponibles à partir des données de conception. Par conséquent, chaque modèle correspond à un niveau épistémologique et à fait ses preuves dans la littérature dédiée au diagnostic. La démarche utilisée pour créer les trois modèles est issue du génie logiciel (tests unitaires, tests d'intégration, non-régression des modifications) pour diminuer la difficulté de la phase de déverminage. Cette phase de déverminage des modèles est entreprise de manière originale en adaptant la théorie du diagnostic sur des scénarios de panne. Ceux-ci fournissent les candidats que l'on doit obtenir. On ne pose donc plus des hypothèses sur le bon fonctionnement de ces composants mais sur des hypothèses de correction/complétude des observations ou des hypothèses de correction/complétude sur les modèles.

Au cours des dernières années, le concept de système national d'innovation (SNI) a été développé dans le sens d'une représentation évolutionniste de la coévolution entre techniques et institutions. L'objet de la thèse est de discuter les bases conceptuelles des SNI à la lumière de leur application à l'analyse des évolutions de la grande vitesse ferroviaire française. L'apport majeur des SNI est d'intégrer une dimension institutionnelle à l'analyse des dynamiques d'innovation, définies comme processus interactif et cumulatif. Ils permettent notamment de rendre compte de l'idiosyncrasie de l'émergence et du développement du système TGV dans un contexte institutionnel stabilise. Toutefois, les analyses SNI ne parviennent à rendre compte que très partiellement du renouvellement de la représentation de la grande vitesse ferroviaire qui permet d'expliquer des choix techniques récents tels que la définition de matériels destinés à des circulations internationales ou des matériels pendulaires. La thèse défendue est que cette limite tient à l'ancrage évolutionniste des SNI, et de la représentation réductrice de la dynamique institutionnelle qui en découle. L'observation empirique, parallèlement à l'analyse conceptuelle permet de proposer des pistes visant à combler cette carence institutionnelle. Thèse de sciences économiques.

World Congress on Railway Research WCRR'94, PARIS, FRANCE, 14-/11/1994 - 16/11/1994; During several measuring programs under the auspices of the German-French Cooperation (DEUFRAKO), the major sound sources on the high-speed vehicles TGV-A, ICE, and TR 07 were localized using variously configurated microphone arrays. These sources pertain to both mechanically as well as aerodynamically generated sound. Relevant information about the type of the sources is obtained from considering the dependence of the emission level with respect to speed.For the railway trains, the following sound sources or regions of the vehicles relevant to the total wayside noise were identified : wheels of the power cars and middle coaches (rolling noise), bogies (aerodynamic noise), pantographs, inter-coach gaps, flow separation near the nose of the forward power car, as well as cooling fans in both power cars. For the maglev TR 07, mechanical sound sources were localized on the guideway and aerodynamic noise sources near the front and the rear end of the vehicle were detected. Other possible aerodynamic sound sources were localized along the cover plates on the guidance chassis. Moreover, for all three vehicles, attempts were made to determine the magnitude of the turbulent boundary-layer noise.
