Vaccination is critical to every responsible healthcare system, yielding several health and economic benefits. However, skepticism is a major challenge to vaccination adherence among parents globally. Mothers are primary decision-makers on children's vaccination; therefore, this study aims to assess maternal knowledge, attitudes, and adherence to children's routine vaccination in Jordan, identify the main sources of related information, and explore the awareness and hesitancy related to elective vaccination, which is not incorporated into the national vaccination program (e.g., varicella, flu, meningitis, and meningococcal vaccines). A descriptive, cross-sectional design was conducted to collect data from 533 Jordanian mothers between August and November 2023. Participant mothers completed an online self-administered questionnaire comprising demographics, knowledge, attitudes, and adherence to children's vaccination. The surveyed mothers in general exhibited high levels of knowledge, attitudes, and adherence concerning children's vaccination and a relatively moderate level of adherence concerning elective vaccines. The mothers' perspectives of reluctance towards elective vaccines were explored. The primary healthcare center and physicians were the most prevalent sources of mothers' vaccine-related information. Future efforts should implement tailored health education campaigns that address specific knowledge gaps, such as misconceptions about contraindications and side effects, promote awareness about elective vaccines, and engage healthcare providers to facilitate informed decision-making among Jordanian mothers and improve children's vaccination coverage. Purpose: This paper aims to explore examine the therapeutic potential of head-mounted display (HMD)-based Virtual Reality Relaxation Therapy (VRRT) sessions for people individuals with dementia in Jordan. Design/methodology/approach: This cross-sectional survey recruited 75 dementia-diagnosed elderly individuals from three Jordanian care homes. A VRRT intervention comprising 10 tailored RT sessions held over the course of five weeks was administered to the participants. Apathy, cognitive performance, anxiety and depression were evaluated before and after the intervention to determine any changes. The Person-Environment Apathy Rating Scale's (PEARS) Arabic translation's validity and reliability were also evaluated. Findings: The VRRT intervention yielded noteworthy results in reducing apathy, as indicated by a substantial decrease in PEARS scores from 17.20 to 11.15. The findings of the study revealed that the participants demonstrated enhanced cognitive abilities, as evidenced by a significant rise in their Saint Louis University Mental Status ratings, which increased from 15.11 to 19.70. The levels of anxiety and depression exhibited a significant decrease subsequent to the implementation of VRRT, with anxiety levels decreasing from 13.66 to 8.23 and depression levels decreasing from 13.62 to 9.33. Furthermore, a notable 70% of participants demonstrated statistically significant decreases in indifference. Practical implications: This study makes a significant contribution to the advancement of innovative treatment approaches aimed at addressing the needs of the aging population, hence enhancing health outcomes and raising the quality of care in Jordan. Originality/value: The effectiveness of VRRT in reducing apathy among Jordanian senior citizens residing in nursing homes has not yet been fully investigated. Therefore, this paper seeks to assess the effectiveness of HMD-based VRRT by conducting pre- and post-intervention evaluations. This research aims to provide valuable insights into the applicability and significance of VRRT in the Jordanian context, contributing to the development of culturally appropriate and cutting-edge therapeutic interventions for older individuals in Jordan. The study identified: a moderate positive correlation between stress and resilience; a weak negative correlation between stress and job performance; and a weak positive correlation between resilience and job performance. Conclusion: It is essential that nurse managers, leaders and policymakers implement measures to mitigate the stressors encountered by nurses, increase resilience and foster effective coping mechanisms. Background: Nursing performance is a key indicator of patients' care quality and safety. Most healthcare research tools are available in the English language; however, nurses around the world can employ these tools if rigorously adapted and cross-culturally validated. Aims and objectives: This study aims to provide a cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the six-dimension scale of nursing performance to be used among Arabic-speaking nurses. Design: The study employed a descriptive, correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. Methods: A five-step cross-cultural adaptation process was adopted. The scale was administered to 216 Jordanian nurses between January 2022 to April 2022. SPSS and AMOS were used for descriptive and correlation analyses and testing the six-dimension model through structural equation modeling (SEM). Results: The current study produced a valid, reliable, culturally adapted Arabic language version of the six-dimension scale of nursing performance. The internal consistency of the tool was supported by a Cronbach Alpha's value of 0.99. The model's goodness of fit indices were: CFI = 0.96, RMSEA = 0.048, and CMIN/df = 1.49. The exploratory factor analysis (EFA) of the scale identified three factors with eigenvalues greater than 1.00., explaining 75.22% of the variance. A subsequent EFA, specifying six factors, yielded 79.79% explained variance. All item factor loadings exceeded 0.30, confirming the scale's robust factor structure. Conclusions: This study proved that following a robust cross-cultural adaptation process results in a reliable and valid measure of nursing performance to be used among Arabic-speaking nurses. The study supports the dimensionality of nursing performance as evidenced by the SEM results. Therefore, the findings have the potential to considerably enhance studying nursing performance in healthcare fields in Arabic-speaking nurses. Relevance to clinical practice: The validation and cross-cultural adaptation of the Arabic version of the Six-Dimension Scale of Nursing Performance have direct implications for improving the quality of nursing services, enhancing patient safety, promoting cultural competence, and supporting the professional growth of Arabic-speaking nurses. Background: Although breakfast skipping among university students is a significant concern, its prevalence and the contributing factors among university students have received little attention in the literature. This study aims to determine the prevalence of skipping breakfast among Jordanian university students and examine the associated factors and variations in rates of skipping breakfast by day of the week. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among undergraduate students between March and May 2022 through a self-questionnaire. A convenience sample of 891 students was chosen at four Jordanian public universities. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The prevalence of skipping breakfast among university students was 66%. The reasons for skipping breakfast were having no time due to oversleeping and having no feeling of hunger (59% for both), followed by having no energy to prepare the breakfast and making no difference (49% and 48%), and not being able to afford to eat or buy breakfast (19%). There is a strong correlation between eating fast food and skipping breakfast. With whom the student eats breakfast is significantly associated with breakfast skipping, revealing that the highest percentages of skipping occur with friends. About 63% of students skipped breakfast through university days compared with 37% on the weekend, while 37% of them had breakfast through university days compared with 67% on the weekend. Conclusions: A high percentage of university students in Jordan skip breakfast. More attention should be paid to correlating factors and developing interventions to help students adhere to the breakfast. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: A healthy diet plays a significant role in preventing and treating various diseases, including colon and breast cancer. Purpose: This study aims to evaluate knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to nutrition in breast cancer prevention and to explore the relationship between demographic characteristics and nutrition practices for breast cancer prevention. Methods: A cross-sectional web-based survey was conducted to assess the level of knowledge, attitudes, and practices concerning breast cancer among 1511 women in Jordan. The survey underwent content validation and received IRB approval from King Abdullah University Hospital. Results: A total of 1511 participants completed the survey. Knowledge levels, with a mean score of 12, significantly varied based on education level (p-value = 0.04), field of education (p-value = 0.001), and physical activity (p-value = 0.001). The mean scores for attitudes and practices toward nutrition-related breast cancer prevention factors were 21.5 and 37, respectively. Conclusion: The study found that education level, family history, physical activity patterns, and sleep habits were factors associated with nutrition knowledge and positive practices, potentially reducing the risk of breast cancer. However, increasing nutrition knowledge alone was not sufficient to change dietary behavior. Implications for Nursing: Risk reduction strategies can be enhanced by incorporating evidence-based practices, such as those identified in this study. Additionally, current prevention and treatment options, including education, counseling, and psychosocial support, should be further developed to increase nutrition-related knowledge, attitudes, and practices for breast cancer prevention. Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a serious public health issue at the global level, with cultural differences in its nature and prevalence. Most of the current evidence related to IPV comes from Western countries; however, there is a lack of evidence of IPV in developing countries such as Saudi Arabia. The issue of IPV has been investigated in Saudi Arabia only recently, and data have been inconsistent and inconclusive. Hence, we conducted a systematic review of the extant literature devoted to IPV prevalence, risk factors, and outcomes as well as Saudi women's help-seeking behaviors. Various databases, such as PubMed, CINAHL, Medline, PsycINFO, and reference lists of the reviewed studies, were searched to identify relevant studies by using different keywords. The review included 16 studies that met the inclusion criteria, which revealed several findings. There is no national representative prevalence study of IPV in the Saudi context. Various IPV definitions were used with limited evidence for the reliability and validity of the used IPV measures. IPV is a prevalent issue among Saudi women, but rates are comparable to those of other countries. There are various individual, relational, and sociocultural factors that increase women's vulnerability to IPV victimization. However, limited information is available regarding IPV protective factors. More importantly, IPV experiences negatively affect Saudi women's physical and mental health status. Saudi women rarely seek formal support for IPV. This review also highlights the lack of IPV data and inconsistencies in defining and measuring IPV. Aim: The study aimed to examine the relationship between structural empowerment and attitudes towards computer use among nurses. Background: Empowering organizational structure is a significant factor affecting employees' attitudes and behaviours towards using organizational resources. Health information technologies were proven to improve health care quality. No previous studies examined the relationship between structural empowerment and attitudes towards computer use. Methods: A cross‐sectional correlational design was used. Self‐reported questionnaires were completed by 200 Jordanian nurses. Descriptive statistics, Pearson r correlation and linear regression analyses were used to address the research aim. Results: Structural empowerment was significantly and positively associated with attitudes towards computer use. Dimensions in structural empowerment that predict positive attitude towards computer use were access to opportunity (β = 0.382, p =.000), formal power (β = −0.252, p =.006) and informal power (β = 0.176, p =.046). Conclusions: Strengthening access to empowerment structures is essential to increase nurses' work efficiency. Improving empowering structures can be achieved by enhancing opportunities to increase professional knowledge and skills towards computerization. Implications for Nursing Management: Nurse managers should promote work conditions that motivate nurses towards positive recognition of innovation through efficient collaborations with the information technology teams. Background: Medical errors (MEs) are serious but preventable threats to patient safety. Annually, 421 million hospitalizations take place worldwide, from those an estimation of around 43 million MEs occur. Low‐middle income countries account for two‐thirds of these MEs. Aim: To examine the prevalence and contributing factors predicting MEs and its reporting among Jordanian nurses and nursing students. Methods: The study used a cross‐sectional descriptive design. A total of 178 nursing students and 123 bedside nurses participated in this study. Study data were collected through a five‐section newly developed survey. Results: MEs are highly prevalent in Jordanian hospitals. More than 70% of nurses and nursing students have no previous training in preventing and reporting MEs. The most prevalent type of MEs were related to changing positions for bedridden patients followed by medication errors, iatrogenic infections, and falls. Staff shortage was the main cause of MEs from participants' perspectives. Conclusion: A central concern of these results is the need for providing effective programs on identifying and preventing MEs in health‐care settings and integrate these programs into graduate nursing curriculums. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, multiple regression and independent t-tests. Results: Questionnaire responses were received from 250 nurses, yielding a response rate of 89%. This study identified that 68% of respondents intended to leave their job. Being older, more experienced and with a higher level of education increased the likelihood of nurse turnover. Nurses working in the university-affiliated hospital had a higher intent to leave compared with those working in public hospitals. Conclusion: This study found that a high proportion of nurses working in hospitals in the north of Jordan were considering leaving their jobs, and nurses' characteristics had a significant role in determining anticipated turnover. The results of this study could provide policymakers and stakeholders in Jordan with guidance to develop policies and retention programmes that could improve nurses' work environment and reduce turnover. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to investigate the level of structural empowerment and explore its relationship with job performance among nurses. BACKGROUND: Empowered nurses display more authority and an awareness of the accomplishment of their contribution to organizational goals. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted with a convenience sample of nurses in 4 hospitals in Jordan. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire. RESULTS: A total of 195 nurses responded to the questionnaires, including 88 males (45.1%) and 107 females (54.9%). Overall, participants perceived their work environment to be moderately empowering. There is a significant positive correlation between structural empowerment and job performance. CONCLUSIONS: Highly empowered nurses display higher performance than less empowered nurses. Nurse managers must create an empowering work environment that supports nurses' job performance positively through structural empowerment. Applying structural empowerment in the work setting is crucial for ensuring the highest quality of patient care, improving nurses' performance, and reaching the organizational goals. Objective: This study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of the Conditions for Workplace Effectiveness Questionnaire-II-Arabic Version (CWEQ-II-AV), which measures structural empowerment among nurses. To enhance the usability and credibility of the CWEQ-II among researchers within Arabic-speaking countries, a valid and reliable Arabic version of the measure is necessary., Methods: A cross-sectional research design was used. From December 2018 to June 2019, 275 nurses working in 4 hospitals participated in the study. Reliability was assessed by examining internal consistency and split-half reliability. A confirmatory factor analysis was performed to evaluate the factor structure of the CWEQ-II-AV., Results: The psychometric properties of the CWEQ-II-AV were excellent regarding the six-factor model (opportunity, information, resources, support, formal power, and informal power). The results showed the following fit indices meet the criteria set a priori: comparative fit index (CFI) = 0.96, root mean square of error approximation (RMSEA) = 0.06, and χ 2 / df  = 2.08. Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.95 for the total questionnaire and ranged between 0.83 and 0.89 for the individual subscales. Background: Predicting nurse turnover is important to prevent expensive and avoidable staff loss. One factor that may influence nurse turnover is nurse managers' leadership styles. Three main leadership styles have been identified: transactional, in which leaders give contingent rewards; transformational, in which leaders inspire and motivate; and passive-avoidant, in which leaders are absent., Aim: To assess the effect of nurse managers' leadership styles on predicted nurse turnover in Jordanian hospitals., Method: A descriptive, cross-sectional, and correlational study design was used. The Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ-5X) was used to assess nurses' perceptions of their nurse managers' leadership styles, while the Anticipated Turnover Scale was used to assess nurses' intention to leave the job. The questionnaires were distributed to 280 nurses in three public sector hospitals and one university-affiliated (teaching) hospital in the north of Jordan., Results: Responses were received from 250 nurses working in a variety of clinical areas, yielding a response rate of 89%. The respondents perceived that the transactional leadership style was the most common among their nurse managers, followed by the transformational style and passive-avoidant style. It was also identified that, on average, respondents had a slight intention to leave their jobs. The transformational leadership style was found to reduce predicted nurse turnover, while the passive-avoidant and transactional leadership styles had no significant effect on this., Conclusion: Understanding the effect of nurse managers' leadership styles on predicted nurse turnover may improve retention.
