Nicotine and tobacco withdrawal in the process of substance use disorder (SUD) treatment is considered to have beneficial effects for the patient's abstinence from substance use. The purpose of this study was to implement smoke-free men inpatients unit at the Department of Addictology where the changes in symptoms of smoking withdrawal were measured in fourth and seventh week of SUD treatment. From qualitative point of view, the goal was to determine the readiness of the unit, and the whole department for the smoke-free regime along with drawing implication for clinical practice. Withdrawal symptoms were present in low rate, the most present were urge to smoke and increased appetite. From qualitative point of view, the crucial prognostic factor of successful implementation is considered the consistence of the staff of the whole department and creation of an algorithm of therapeutic interventions when the abstinence is violated. When it comes to clinical implications, patients can benefit from the insight of how smoke-free regime can be beneficial for their future abstinence from the primary substance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MENTAL health services , *SMOKING cessation , *TOBACCO use , *PSYCHIATRIC treatment , *SMOKING - Abstract
Tobacco use is associated with high morbidity and mortality rates. The prevalence of tobacco smoking is significantly higher among patients undergoing psychiatric treatment compared to the general population. Despite clear evidence of positive effects resulting from the cessation of smoking in patients receiving mental health treatment, quitting smoking still remains a controversial issue among specialists. In 2018, Military University Hospital Prague introduced a pilot fully non-smoking environment at the acute psychiatric care department. Part of this concept is a complex ban on tobacco use during hospitalization (including new forms of tobacco and nicotine products). The project proved to be viable, it doesn't significantly complicate the course of hospitalization and the acute psychiatric care department is already permanently in a non-smoking regime. All support is available to patients to bridging the period when they can't smoke. Because smoking cessation has an impact on the plasma concentrations of some psychopharmaceuticals, monitoring is established in teamwork with a clinical pharmacist. At the same time, the smoking cessation in psychiatric treatment is full of many myths that still prevent professionals from introducing non-smoking environments. The aim of this article is to contribute to a further discussion on the spread of non-smoking policy in psychiatric and addictology workplaces. Three years of experience from the psychiatric ward in Military University Hospital Prague show that it is possible to implement and adhere to it without negative consequences. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Background: The aim of the current study was to assess the prevalence of the (problematic) consumption of alcohol, tobacco, and cannabis as well as the (problematic) use of social media, e‑products, computer games, and gambling among apprentices. Method: Cross-sectional survey of 4591 apprentices at 17 vocational schools from Bavaria, Schleswig-Holstein, and Hamburg. Data was collected using questionnaires between March 2021 and April 2022. The primary endpoints were the 30-day prevalence and the problematic consumption and usage behavior of the mentioned substances/behaviors using screening instruments. Results: Among the assessed substances/behaviors, social media were used most frequently by the apprentices with a 30-day prevalence of 97.7%, followed by alcohol (64.3%) and computer games (55.8%). Cigarettes were consumed by 35.1%, e‑products by 17.9%, and cannabis by 15.4% of the apprentices. Of the apprentices, 12.2% reported having gambled in the past 30 days. Rates of problematic use were 47.4% for alcohol, 18.0% for tobacco, 6.2% for e‑products, and 1.6% for cannabis. Problematic use of social media was indicated by 45.0% of the apprentices, of gambling by 2.2%, and of computer games by 0.7%. Discussion: These results suggest that apprentices constitute a risk group for problematic substance use, indicating increased need for intervention.

- Abstract
For successful health promotion and prevention, it is important to define and understand target groups. While most campaigns and interventions take basic characteristics such as demographics (e.g., age) or socioeconomic characteristics (e.g., educational attainment) into account, there is often a lack of knowledge about behavioral characteristics (e.g., smoking opportunities), psychographic characteristics (e.g., motives for exercising) or health-work characteristics (e.g., ability to work despite chronic diseases) of different target groups. Accordingly, a one size fits-all approach is problematic because it bypasses the individual characteristics of the target groups and is less effective and efficient. Against this background, target group segmentation presents an opportunity that needs to be seized. The aim of this workshop is to introduce the idea, process and requirements of the segmentation and tailoring approach. With the help of three empirical examples, we will illustrate its application and discuss the benefits and potential challenges. The first example focuses on the “TPF Target group profiles” project on tobacco prevention. Based on the collection of detailed information on the behavioral and psychographic characteristics of adolescents and adults, segments were derived, specific prevention messages on smoking prevention and cessation for the respective target group profiles were developed, tested, and were made accessible to health professionals on a digital platform. The second example summarizes findings from several projects in the field of exercise and sport promotion. Thereby, different possibilities for tailoring target-group specific measures will be introduced. For example, target-group-specific sport and exercise programs can be developed based on individual motives and physical condition. The third example, based on an SNSF project, sheds light on labor market integration among older workers with different health profiles. We examine which s

Aims: The Motivation to Stop Scale (MTSS) is a single-item English language scale for predicting attempts to quit smoking. The aim of the study was an external validation of a German version of the MTSS (Motivation zum Rauchstopp Skala, MRS) based on a sample of current tobacco smokers in Germany. Methods: We used data from the first 18 waves (June 2016–May 2019) of the DEBRA study (German Study on Tobacco Use): a nationwide, face-to-face household survey of persons aged 14 years and older with one follow-up telephone interview after 6 months. We analysed data from 767 current smokers. The MRS was used at baseline (level 1–7 = no to highest motivation). At follow-up, the number of quit attempts since baseline were measured. We conducted logistic regression analyses and calculated the discriminant accuracy of MRS using the Area Under the Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve (ROC-AUC). Results: At baseline, 61.1 % (n = 469; 95 % confidence interval (CI) = 57.7–64.6) of current 767 tobacco smokers were not motivated to quit smoking (MRS level 1–2). Overall, 185 of the 767 smokers (24.1 %; CI = 21.1–27.1) made at least one quit attempt between the baseline and follow-up survey. The odds of reporting a quit attempt increased with increasing motivation to stop smoking on the MRS: odds ratio = 1.37, 95 % CI = 1.25–1.51. The discriminative accuracy of the MRS was ROC-AUC = 0.64. Conclusion: The MRS is a brief and valid measurement for assessing the motivation to stop smoking in the German language. TARIFF laws , *CULTURAL property , *CULTURAL history , *ETYMOLOGY , *ADVISORY boards , *WEDDINGS - Abstract
The hospitality and table culture refer to a traditional reflection of sharing and division culture that has been shaped and passed down from generation to generation throughout the historical process. This article deals with the types of the guest (konak), dishes that served to the guests and the connection of this concept with the view of ülüş in the Kazakh culture, which carries the traditional features of Turkish hospitality from the past to the present. This article also explores the naming and types of presentation of dishes in the hospitality. Also, it focuses on the cultural meaning and legends about animal limbs in the hospitality. The guest is usually stated by the word konak in Kazakh society. Besides, the guests can also take different names depending on the days (wedding, birth, etc.) and for what purpose (celebration, relatives visit, etc.) they came. The tables that were established in meetings such as advisory council and toys, and the manner and amounts of the dishes in these tables were also called ülüş in Turkish culture. The ülüş, which is used in the meaning of portion, share and parting political and social terms, also refers to social status based on sharing and the gift given to the person in today's Kazakh society. In the Kazakh culture, from the meat and bone pieces that prepared on the dishes, it is known to whom the dish will be presented. Because the serving process is determined by the rules (töre) in the Kazakh culture. Although the Kazakh hospitality culture and dishes are still alive among the public today, they were not written down and their function within their own culture was not defined. Therefore, this article aims to reveal the rich culture of hospitality of the Kazakhs as well as the application of the view of hospitality in social life. This article was prepared based on the descriptive method. The descriptive method, which was used in this article, is based on the emergence of a cultural element, its meaning within its own culture and the determination of its usage areas. Also due to the lack of written resources in the identification of dish types, semi-structured interviews were conducted with Kazakhs living in Kazakhstan. While the issue of ülüş has mostly been studied in the meaning of the word in the cultural history, this article tries to reveal the existence of the view of ülüş and uses it as a tool to interpret the guest entertaining culture based on the hospitality and dishes. Furthermore, this article tries to assess the Kazakh hospitality culture, how this hospitality took place, to whom served the various limbs of the animal and their meanings, the way each dish was prepared and its contents in the context of social relations. By touching on the place and meaning of animal limbs in Kazakh folk legends, this article tries to determine how to transmit this cultural heritage to future generations. It is possible to list the results of this article as follows: from the hospitality and table culture it can be seen that the view of ülüş is still an important factor in the Kazakh culture. It is determinative in the distribution of shares and regulating social relations. In addition, it can be said that it still determinates social status in the Kazakh culture. However, while the hospitality and the dishes served to the guests were applied according to a certain custom and law in the Kazakhs, in the following periods it is seen that it became a tradition with sociocultural change [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The prevention of smoking and exposure of children and adolescents to passive smoking is an important health policy objective. The repeatedly collected data from the KiGGS study show a significant decline in tobacco consumption and exposure to passive smoking. Both tobacco control policy measures and prevention programmes may have contributed to this. Nevertheless, there is still room for improvement in tobacco control policy, in particular in the area of tobacco advertising bans. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Since 2010, sociologists have noted that teenagers drink less alcohol and smoke a smaller number of cigarettes each year than in previous years. This paper analyses the association between family background and the decline in alcohol and cigarette use in the Czech Republic between 2010 and 2018. The data are from the international HBSC (Health Behaviour in School-aged Children) study, from the years 2010, 2014, and 2018. The bachelor thesis only discusses cases from the Czech Republic, the data have thousands of cases, so they are robust enough to perform quantitative analyses. The analysis focuses only on alcohol and conventional cigarettes as the two most common addictive substances consumed by adolescents. Family background is examined in terms of parental presence in the household, ease of communication between parent and child, and family wealth. Secondary analysis showed an association of family wealth with the amount of alcohol consumed and cigarettes smoked. Children from wealthier families drink alcohol more often than children from the opposite end of the spectrum, and conversely, children from poorer families smoke more cigarettes. The data does not have the potential to observe causality, only correlations could be observed. The main conclusion of the paper is that the decline in...

Title: The use of chewing tobacco among athletes and its effect on the body Objectives: The main objective of this work is to find out the spread of chewing tobacco use among athletes and to identify the reasons that lead to its use. The secondary objective of the work is to describe the negative effect of chewing tobacco on the human body. Methods: I used the questionnaire survey method in my work. I created two questionnaires. One designed for athletes, which consisted of 22 questions. The second was intended for coaches, which consisted of 10 questions. Respondents answered YES/NO questions and they had the option of choosing from one or more answers, and some questions were open- ended. Some questions were mandatory. The questions ranged from general to specific. The questionnaire survey was anonymized and distributed over the Internet. The time required to fill out the questionnaire was approx. 5 minutes. Results: I found that 45.9% of the 61 respondents use chewing tobacco. For almost the majority of respondents, someone else in their vicinity uses chewing tobacco. Among the most common reasons why respondents use chewing tobacco is dependence on the product, this motive was mentioned by 36% of athletes. Most respondents are aware that chewing tobacco can cause cancer (27.8%) and receding...

- Abstract
Smoking is the single most significant health risk and the leading cause of premature mortality in industrialised countries. One of the major objectives of public health is to reduce tobacco consumption in the population. As the tobacco tax statistics and population-wide studies show, the sale of cigarettes and the proportion of adolescents and adults who smoke have decreased significantly in the last 25 years. This positive development can also be referred to a strengthened tobacco control policy in Germany. Nevertheless, there is further potential for improvement, especially when it comes to consistent and nationwide smoke-free laws, tobacco tax and comprehensive tobacco advertising bans. - Abstract
Introduction: There is a lack of information regarding factors associated with successful smoking cessation on a population and European Union (EU)-wide level. Our study seeks to explore individual and country-level factors associated with abstinence after a recent smoking cessation attempt across the EU. Methods: We obtained data from the March 2017 Special Eurobarometer 87.1 (n=27901). Regression analysis was performed on a subset of 1472 individuals who made quit attempts in the past 12 months. Sociodemographic, policy and country-level factors were assessed using logistic regression among smokers and ex-smokers who attempted to quit approximately 12 months before the survey date. We defined and examined the Cessation Ratio (ratio of number of recent quitters to those who did not succeed) across 28 EU Member States. Results: In all, 14.9% (n=1018) of current smokers and 8.80% (n=454) of exsmokers attempted to quit in approximately the last 12 months (n=1472). Cessation Ratios ranged from 0.182 (95% CI: 0.045–0.319) in Estonia to 1.060 (95% CI: 0.262–1.860) in Sweden. There is a quadratic, U-shaped relationship between odds of quitting and smoking prevalence. The lowest odds of cessation were observed at a prevalence of 26.3%, with higher odds of cessation observed above and below this point. Respondents who reported financial difficulties were less likely to quit (AOR=0.66; 95% CI: 0.52–0.83). There was no association of likelihood of success with other sociodemographic factors or the Tobacco Control Scale treatment score. Conclusions: These findings highlight a need for exploring reasons behind the variation in likelihood of abstinence following a recent quit attempt, in order to design policies targeted at population groups or countries that need greater support.

- Abstract
Snus is an oral smokeless tobacco product which is usually placed behind the upper lip, either in a loose form or in portioned sachets, and is primarily used in Sweden and Norway. The purpose of this review is to examine the reported effects of snus use in relation to specified health effects, namely lung cancer, cardiovascular disease, pancreatic cancer, diabetes, oral cancer and non-neoplastic oral disease. The review also examines the harm reduction potential of snus as an alternative to cigarettes by comparing the prevalence of snus use and cigarette smoking, and the reported incidence of tobacco-related diseases across European Union countries. The scientific literature generally indicates that the use of snus is not a significant risk factor for developing lung cancer, cardiovascular disease, pancreatic cancer or oral cancer. Studies investigating snus use and diabetes have reported that high consumption of snus (estimated as being four or more cans per week) may be associated with a higher risk of developing diabetes or components of metabolic syndrome; however, overall results are not conclusive. Snus use is associated with the presence of non-neoplastic oral mucosal lesions which are reported to heal rapidly once use has stopped. The most recent Eurobarometer data from 2017 reported that Sweden had the lowest prevalence of daily cigarette use in the European Union at 5% whilst daily “oral tobacco” use was reported to be 20%. European data published by the World Health Organisation in 2018 indicated that Sweden had the lowest rate of tobacco-related mortality and the lowest incidence of male lung cancer. Overall, prevalence statistics and epidemiological data indicate that the use of snus confers a significant harm reduction benefit which is reflected in the comparatively low levels of tobacco-related disease in Sweden when compared with the rest of Europe. The available scientific data, including long-term population studies conducted by independent bodies

- Abstract

- Abstract
Damit leistet der Aufsatz einen Beitrag zur Werbe-, Konsum- und Mentalitätsgeschichte der Bundesrepublik., 'HB-Männchen Bruno' was one of the most successful advertising characters at the time of the German economic boom, or Wirtschaftswunder, in the 1950s and early 1960s. His popularity even exceeded that of the federal chancellor. It is widely accepted among advertising experts that ‘Bruno’ may be considered as a 'classic example of efficient brand guidance'. This article traces the history of the origins of this advertising character and its underlying advertising strategy. Furthermore the article aims to reveal the formula underpinning the success of this figure as well as the conditions of its decline. The essay thus contributes towards the history of advertising, consumption and mentalities in the Federal Republic of Germany.

- Abstract
Vorhersagegenauigkeiten von bis zu 100% belegen d, Food adulteration has been a major problem ever since. The main reason for food adulteration is usually the greed for profit of manufacturers or importers. In addition to economic damage, such economically motivated adulterations frequently involve health risks for the consumer. Efficient methods for quality control of food products are therefore essential. The aim of this thesis was to develop such efficient methods using Direct Analysis in Real Time Mass Spectrometry (DART-MS). The present work is a cumulative dissertation consisting of three first-authorship articles and two co-authorship articles, all of which have been published in peer-reviewed journals. Publication 1 deals with the differentiation of two species of the genus Curcuma, which are used as spices. Using DART-MS and near-infrared spectroscopy in combination with multivariate data analysis, highly efficient models were created to distinguish these species, allowing even unknown samples to be easily assigned to one of the two species. Publication 2 deals with the qualitative analysis of tobacco products. For this purpose, multivariate models were created using DART-MS and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LCMS) to represent the geographic origin of tobacco leaves. In addition to qualitative analysis, nicotine content of tobacco leaves was determined using both methods. High correlations (>0.96) comparing both methods show that DART-MS is easily suitable for semiquantitative analysis of nicotine in tobacco leaves. Last but not least, publication 3 presents two methods for rapid discrimination of four species of truffles. Once again, DART-MS and LC-MS were used to create multivariate models for rapid and simple species identification. Prediction accuracies of up to 100% demonstrate the suitability of both methods for rapid quality control of black truffles. In summary, DART-MS combined with multivariate data analysis is ideally suited for rapid and efficient screening of food products, thus fulf, Abweichender Titel laut Übersetzung der Verfasserin/des Verfassers, Dissertation Universität Innsbruck 2022

ADOLESCENT smoking , *COLLEGE students , *TOBACCO , *TOBACCO smoke , *CIGARETTE smoke - Abstract
The problem of smoking has to be seen as a serious public health phenomenon conditioned by many factors. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this paper was to measure the extent and type of impact of selected socio-economic variables on tobacco smoking and the views on the risks associated with its use among students. METHODS: The data set was obtained on the basis of a questionnaire survey. SAMPLE: 748 full-time students at Slovak universities (290 males and 458 females). RESULTS: Relatively, the greatest effect is a student's (temporary) job alongside their studies. Out of the thirteen items on tobacco use, the impact of employment was found significant in eight of them. In all cases, employment had a negative influence. Female students showed a significantly lower prevalence of lifetime use of water pipes and seemed to be more concerned about the risks of occasional cigarette smoking in comparison to their male counterparts. The last major determinant is the type of faculty. The medical faculty played a significantly positive role in students' experience with water pipes. Students majoring in health-specific fields reported significantly lower levels of the lifetime use of water pipes. The impact of the other potential determinants under study was insignificant. CONCLUSIONS: We can conclude that being of female gender and majoring in health-oriented fields are factors which have a significant positive effect on the prevalence of tobacco use and opinions about the associated risks among full-time Slovak university students. On the other hand, students' employment has a significantly negative impact. Students who work show a higher prevalence of tobacco use and also spend more money on it. A finding of major concern is that students who work tend to use tobacco together with alcohol, and a significantly larger number of them found it difficult to quit smoking. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the German context, there is hardly any quantitative data about the implementation of school tobacco polices that include the perspective of both teachers and students. The aim of the study is to investigate the associations between implemented school tobacco policies and the perceived prevalence of smoking at the level of school staff and adolescents. The repeated cross-sectional study (2013 and 2017) is based on pooled responses of 13- to 17-year-old adolescents (N = 2393) and school staff (N = 85) from 25 schools located in the West German metropolitan region of Hanover. In linear regression models, average marginal effects (AMEs) with 95% confidence intervals (CI95%) and robust standard errors for perceived tobacco prevalence are reported separately for school tobacco policies assessed by teachers and students (scale 0-6). All models were controlled for sociodemographic, school-, and smoking-specific covariates. On average, adolescents perceive a smoking prevalence of 30% ([Formula: see text]; s: 24.0) for their school. A comprehensive school tobacco policy is consistently associated with lower school smoking prevalence both from the point of view of teachers (AME: -3.54 CI95% -6.49 to -0.58) and students (AME: -1.69 CI95% -2.52 to -0.86). The number of smoking friends (e.g., "most of them are smokers" +14%: AME: 14.13 CI95% 10.46 to 17.80) and the type of school are the most relevant determinants of a high school smoking prevalence. School types with a nonacademic track report a 15% (AME: 15.03 CI95% 10.13 to 19.93) higher prevalence compared to grammar schools.Progressive school tobacco control policies should focus more on school types with nonacademic tracks, certain groups at risk, and those schools that do not strictly enforce school tobacco policies.HINTERGRUND: Für Deutschland sind kaum Daten zur Implementierung schulischer Tabakkontrolle bekannt, die sowohl die Perspektive von Lehrer- als auch von Schüler*innen einbeziehen.

The clove cigarettes (kretek) industry is the second largest employer in Indonesia, after the Indonesian government. Between 4 and 17 million people are employed in this industry, including areas such as cultivation, trading, transport, advertisement and production of clove cigarettes. The Indonesian government depends on the kretek industry because of its important economic function. This paper contributes to tracing the historical development of kretek, considering economic, social and political aspects. The article raises the question which factors have determined the consumption behaviour of smoking? Why has betel chewing increasingly been replaced by smoking kretek cigarettes? Which steps has the kretek cigarette taken since its invention and what factors have mechanization, political intervention, tobacco control and advertisement played for the development of the kretek industry? What image do kretek cigarettes have today, what are its patterns of consumption and what infl uence do multinational enterprises have on the development of kretek?

This thesis entitled " Student's awareness of selected village and town elementary schools in the Rakovník district about the risk of using addictive substance - alcohol, tobacco" is divided into two main parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part is devoted to the characteristics of addictive substances, their history and describes the manifestations of addiction, treatment of addiction and prevention of addiction. Furthermore, the theoretical part is devoted to the problem of substance use by children and adolescents, the consequences and specifics of substance use in children and adolescents are described. Alcohol and tobacco are discussed in more detail. A chapter is also devoted to prevention. The practical part focuses on the investigation of pupils' awareness of the risks of using addictive substances - alcohol and tobacco - by evaluating a questionnaire survey. The results of the practical part showed that pupils had a fairly good knowledge of legal addictive substances, practically without distinction, whether they were pupils of a village school or an urban school. The survey also showed that more emphasis should be placed on the harmfulness of legal highs, because, according to the survey, pupils have a lot of experience with these substances due to the attitude of society,...
