Economic evaluation in health (also known as pharmacoeconomic in case of medicines) identifies, measures, and values costs and outcomes of alternative healthcare technologies, and can be performed alongside controlled clinical trials, but analytical modelling is usually used. Decision trees and Markov models are the two most common approaches used in economic evaluation. The biggest advantages of a decision tree are clarity, simplicity, and straightforwardness. On the other hand, the main advantage of the Markov model is its ability to incorporate complex events into the simulation, which is practically impossible to do with a decision tree. Reimbursement policy in Serbia mandatorily incorporates economic evaluations to promote availability and accessibility of the prescription medicines. To show current pharmacoeconomic value of a medicine, budget impact analysis and the cost-effectiveness analysis should be included. The latter should be conducted using appropriate modelling techniques. However, since no official methodological guidelines about the modelling and economic analysis exist, the submissions by marketing authorization holders vary greatly. The future of pharmacoeconomic modelling depends on the research area of interest, with new frameworks and approaches being developed. more...

- Abstract
Godinama su žene bile ograničene u mogućnostima napredovanja i razvoju karijere, no s vremenom dolazi do sve većeg uključivanja žena u menadžment. Nadalje, utvrđeno je da žene imaju veći stupanj obrazovanja te razvijenije menadžerske vještine u odnosu na muškarce, menadžere LJR., For years, advancement and career development opportunities for women were limited, but over time, increasing involvement of women in management is evident. The more frequent inclusion of women in organizational structures has a significant impact on contemporary and substantial changes in organizational structure and managerial functions, methods of communication, problem-solving and decision-making. Based on the sample of medium-sized and large Croatian companies, this research examines the proportion of females positioned as human resource (HR) managers. It analyzes the level of knowledge, skills, and personality traits they possess, at the same time comparing those with the same data collected on their male counterparts in the same managerial positions. The results of the research show that women are more represented in management positions in the field of human resources management. Moreover, women as HR managers poses higher level of education, as well as more developed managerial skills compared to men, HR managers. more...

- Abstract
Stress is one of the most significant factors that can influence the academic performance of students. To explore the causes of stress in students, the crosssectional online survey was conducted during semester (in 2019 year) and during examination period (in 2020 year) period at the University of Belgrade - Faculty of Pharmacy. The main results indicated that female gender was the most significant predictor of stress during the examimation period, and the most frequent stress sources were limited time to prepare exams and/or colloquia. The role of family, friends, and boyfriend/girlfriend showed to be of great importance in stress reduction during the semester and especially during the examimation period. The most frequent manifestations of stress were feeling nervous, tired and worried. For stress reduction students usually listened to music and talked with friends. Therefore, student’s obligations and their overall living conditions should be observed comprehensively. These results may indicate further actions to decrease stress levels in students, and need for academic environment that may help students to achieve the best academic performance. more...

The present study evaluated the psychometric properties of a self-report scale for assessing Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) symptoms according to the DSM–5 and ICD–11 among 3270 college/university students (2095 [64.1%] females; age mean 21.6 [3.1] years) from different countries worldwide. Croatian, English, Polish, Portuguese, Serbian, Turkish, and Vietnamese versions of the scale were tested. The study showed that symptoms of IGD could be measured as a single underlying factor among college/university students. A nine item symptom scale following DSM–5, and a short four-item scale representing the main ICD–11 symptoms, had sound internal consistency and construct validity. Three symptom-items were found non-invariant across the language samples (i.e., preoccupation with on-line gaming, loss of interests in previous hobbies and entertainment, and the use of gaming to relieve negative moods). This study provides initial evidence for assessing IGD symptoms among college/university students and will hopefully foster further research into gaming addiction in this population worldwide especially with taking into account language/cultural differences. This systematic literature review aimed to provide an overview of the characteristics and methods used in studies applying the Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALY) concept for infectious diseases within European Union (EU)/European Economic Area (EEA)/European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries and the United Kingdom. Electronic databases and grey literature were searched for articles reporting the assessment of DALY and its components. We considered studies in which researchers performed DALY calculations using primary epidemiological data input sources. We screened 3,053 studies of which 2,948 were excluded and 105 studies met our inclusion criteria. Of these studies, 22 were multi-country and 83 were single-country studies, of which 46 were from the Netherlands. Food- and water-borne diseases were the most frequently studied infectious diseases. Between 2015 and 2022, the number of burden of infectious disease studies was 1.6 times higher compared to that published between 2000 and 2014. Almost all studies (97%) estimated DALYs based on the incidence- and pathogen-based approach and without social weighting functions; however, there was less methodological consensus with regards to the disability weights and life tables that were applied. The number of burden of infectious disease studies undertaken across Europe has increased over time. Development and use of guidelines will promote performing burden of infectious disease studies and facilitate comparability of the results. more...

AGE discrimination ,MEDICAL personnel ,CRONBACH'S alpha ,ELDER care ,AGEISM ,OLDER patients - Abstract
Ageism is the existence of stereotypes, prejudices, and discrimination against the elderly. It is prevalent in the general population, but also among healthcare workers. The aim of this study was to develop and test a new scale for assessing the willingness of pharmacists to offer pharmaceutical care to elderly patients. The study was designed as cross-sectional, testing the reliability of the newly created questionnaire. The questionnaire was prepared through the work of a focus group, following the eight-step method, and administered via the internet. The WPhCareEld scale showed good internal consistency and reliability (Cronbach's alpha was 0.726) in a sample of community pharmacists, and its factor analysis showed that the scale measures four domains: willingness of community pharmacists to care for elderly patients through direct and indirect communication with prescribers, how the pharmacists value elderly patients, and whether the pharmacists have prejudices against elderly patients. The study confirmed the reliability and internal consistency of the newly designed questionnaire for measuring the willingness of community pharmacists to provide pharmaceutical care to elderly patients. Background/Aim. Osteoporosis mainly affects women in the early years following menopause. The aim of this study was to determine the level of knowledge about osteoporosis and osteoporosis related risk factors in postmenopausal women in Serbia. Methods. The study included postmenopausal women regardless if suffering from osteoporosis or not. Assessment of knowledge was carried out by using the Osteoporosis Knowledge Assessment Tool - Shorter Version (OKAT-S) questionnaire that was validated for Serbian population. Answers to the 9 questions were coded as 1 -true, or 0 - false or “do not know”. Also, the following risk factors data for osteoporosis were collected: age, the onset and duration of menopause, body mass index (BMI), data on fractures, the incidence of falls, smoking, lifestyle (active, sedentary), regular sunbathing, calcium and vitamin D supplementation, intake of milk and dairy products. Results. A total of 132 postmenopausal women responded to the questionnaire with the response rate of 90.41%. Their knowledge varied from 27.94% to 74.26% of the correct answers, with the average OKAT-S score of 4.5 (SD = 2.55), which was 50% of the maximum possible score. Only 2 participants (1.47%) filled the all OKAT-S items correctly, while 11 (8.09%) of them did not have the proper answer to any question. A reduced bone density (T-score below -1) was registered in 40.91% of the women, previous fractures in 49 (34.51%), and more or less 3 falls registered in 9.59% or 4.79%, respectively. Conclusion. The Serbian version of the questionnaire OKAT-S revealed generally poor knowledge on osteoporosis among postmenopausal women in Serbia. Developing effective interventions and public health programms could be helpful in general education towards understanding osteoporosis and risk factors. Promotion of preventive measures and healthy behaviour may prevent or at least slow down the accelerated bone loss in postmenopausal women. more...

Objectives: Evidence suggests that both N-Acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) and NAC in combination with propolis (NAC-P) reduce symptoms of acute bronchitis and improve Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL). This study aimed to compare the impact of NAC and NAC-P therapy on acute bronchitis patients' quality of life. Design, setting, and subjects: A randomized, single-blind parallel-group study was achieved at Municipal Institute for Lung Diseases and Tuberculosis Medical Centre, Belgrade, Serbia. Patients with acute bronchitis were randomly assigned into two groups to receive NAC (200mg three times a day) or NAC-P (200mg+80mg three times a day) orally for a minimum of ten days. HRQoL of patients was measured twice (at two appointments) using the Leicester Cough Questionnaire (LCQ) and EQ-5D questionnaires. Results: The study included 42 patients in the NAC-P group and 43 in the NAC group. The correlation between the LCQ total score and Health State Values (HSV) was positive and statistically significant in the NAC-P and the NAC groups at the second appointment. The differences between values of EQ-5D scores were slightly higher (but not statistically significant) in the NAC-P group compared to the NAC group, indicating a more remarkable improvement of HRQoL using NAC-P. Conclusion: NAC-P and NAC may improve HRQoL in patients with acute bronchitis. EQ-5D scale values indicated that NAC-P might improve quality of life more than NAC. Our results may provide the basis for better decision-making by healthcare professionals when choosing the right therapy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] more...

Background/Aim. Pharmacists' competence represents a dynamic framework of knowledge, skills and abilities to carry out tasks, and it reflects on improving the quality of life and on patients’ health. One of the documents for the Evaluation and Competency Development of Pharmacists is the Global Competency Framework (GbCF). The aim of this study was to implement the GBCF document into Serbian pharmacies, to perform assessment and self assessment of the competencies. Methods. The assessment and self-assessment of pharmacists’ competencies were performed during the period 2012−13 year in eight community pharmacy chains, in seven cities in Serbia. For assessment and self-assessment of pharmacists competencies the GbCF model was applied, which was adjusted to pharmaceutical practice and legislation in Serbia. External assessment was conducted by teams of pharmacists using the structured observation of the work of pharmacists during regular working hours. Evaluated pharmacists filled out the questionnaire about demographic indicators about the pharmacist and the pharmacy where they work. Results. A total of 123 pharmacists were evaluated. Pharmacists’ Professional Competency Cluster (KK1) had the lowest score (average value 2.98), while the cluster Management and Organizational Competency (KK2) had the highest score (average value 3.15). The competence Recognition of the Diagnosis and Patient Counseling (K8), which belonged to the cluster KK1, had the lowest score (average value for assessment and self-assessment were 2.09, and 2.34, respectively) among the all evaluated competencies. Conclusion. GbCF might be considered as an instrument for the competencies' evaluation/selfevaluation and their improvement, accordingly. more...

Pseudomonas aeruginosa ,Antibiotic utilization ,Antimicrobial resistance ,Serbia - Abstract
Background In Europe, Serbia occupies a high position in antibiotic utilization and antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Aim The aim was to analyse utilization trends of meropenem, ceftazidime, aminoglycosides, piperacillin/tazobactam and fluoroquinolones (2006–2020), and the reported AMR in Pseudomonas aeruginosa (2013–2020) in Serbia and to compare with data from eight European countries (2015–2020). Method Joinpoint regression was used to analyse antibiotic utilization data (2006–2020) and the reported AMR in Pseu- domonas aeruginosa (2013–2020). Data sources were relevant national and international institutions. Antibiotic utilization and AMR in Pseudomonas aeruginosa data in Serbia were compared with eight European countries. Results There was a significantly increased trend for ceftazidime utilization and reported resistance in Pseudomonas aer- uginosa, Serbia (p < 0.05) (2018–2020). For ceftazidime, piperacillin/tazobactam, and fluoroquinolones resistances in Pseu- domonas aeruginosa an increased trend was observed, Serbia (2013–2020). A decrease in both the utilization of aminogly- cosides, Serbia (p < 0.05) (2006–2018) and contemporaneous Pseudomonas aeruginosa resistance (p > 0.05) was detected. Fluoroquinolone utilization (2015–2020) was highest in Serbia compared to Netherlands and Finland, 310 and 305% higher, similar compared to Romania, and 2% less compared to Montenegro. Aminoglycosides (2015–2020) were 2550 and 783% more used in Serbia compared to Finland and Netherlands, and 38% less regarding Montenegro. The highest percentage of Pseudomonas aeruginosa resistance was in Romania and Serbia (2015–2020). Conclusion The use of piperacillin/tazobactam, ceftazidime and fluoroquinolones should be carefully monitored in clinical practice due to increased Pseudomonas aeruginosa resistance. The level of utilization and AMR in Pseudomonas aeruginosa is still high in Serbia compared to other European countries. more...

Therapy of urinary tract infections differs for complicated and non-complicated infections and site of infection. The aim of this paper is pharmacoeconomic analysis of different strategies in management of urinary tract infections from the perspective of Republic Fond for Health Insurance. The decision tree was constructed to evaluate costs and effectiveness of different strategies used for treatment of non-pregnant, adult women. As a positive outcome of the treatment number of cases where simptoms disapered is used. The results implied that the least costly strategy available is empiric treatment. More expensive but with greater outcomes was the strategy involving laboratory test together with empiric treatment. Although the empiric treatment proved to be cost-effective and in accordance with current recommendations and guidelines for therapy, recognition of the impact of this strategy upon antibiotic resistance may lead to conclusion that the dipstick strategy is superior strategy. more...

Empirical application of antifungal drugs in the treatment of invasive fungal infections (IFI) in febrile neutropenia represent significant cost, but it is essential in patients with leukemia and after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Numerous clinical studies have shown little difference in the efficacy of amphotericin B and caspofungin in IFI empirical therapy, but it does not reflect their cost-effectiveness. The aim of this study was to compare the costeffectiveness of caspofungin and amphotericin B lipid complex (ABLC) in the empirical antifungal therapy in patients with febrile neutropenia using model-decision tree, from the perspective of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). We used the cost-effectiveness analysis, for a period of 14 days of therapy. In model we combined data on efficacy from randomized clinical trials, while the costs were taken from the Drug list or service fee NHIF. The total cost per additional cured fungal infection with caspofungin was 639,750.06 RSD, while with ABLC was 2,153,403.61 RSD. In the sensitivity analysis, using different weights of patients (50kg or 70kg) and different doses of ABLC, caspofungin was again most cost-effective strategy for empirical antifungal therapy. Caspofungin, in addition to a better safety profile, is more cost-efficient than ABLC. This fact should be kept in mind when choosing a therapy for the treatment of IFI in patients with febrile neutropenia. more...

In steel frame buildings the role of the beam-to-column connection is crucial for assuring structural integrity, and due to their complexity and non-linear behaviour, the bolted configurations of this type of connection are usually the most vulnerable elements of a building. In order to assess the behaviour of a bolted steel connection, the simplified model of the equivalent T-stub is used. Based on previous experimental studies on a parametric set of T-stubs, the aim of this study is to optimise a numerical model in order to validate the experimental data and produce a fully calibrated finite element model, created with Abaqus/Explicit FE software package. To model properly the nonlinear behaviour of the component, an analysis of the properties of the model was conducted regarding the finite elements properties, analysis properties and discretization. The solid finite element properties considered were such as the number of nodes, integration, contact and true stress-strain material definition, including damage criteria. In this context, the assembly was subjected to a transient quasi-static explicit FE analysis using mass-scaling features. The results are expressed by comparison of Force-displacement curves obtain via numerical analysis and experimental testing. more...

- Abstract
Analiza načina i efekata otkaza (FMEA) pokazala je da su predložene korektivne mere postigle značajno unapređenje bezbednosti sistema u 36 od 38 slučaja potencijalnog otkaza sistema, uz smanjenje ukupne vrednosti kvantifikacije prioriteta rizika (RPN) za 45,08%., In the first phase of the research, a critical analysis of published collaborative pharmaceutical practice (CPP) models was conducted, and conceptual dynamic model of CPP in health and social care of the elderly population was developed. Desk analysis was used to review the publications from electronic databases and provided a tool in the form of guides and checklists for decision makers and regulators to achieve the preferred effects of collected collaborative practices, through models` identifications and activities which needed to be conducted in order to implement the most applicable collaborative health and social care for the elderly. The search was repeated in December 2021 and a decrease in the number of publications in 2020 and 2021 was noticed, caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional study on the attitudes of older people (65+) towards interprofessional collaboration and CPP was conducted with a methodologically based (Delphi method) and developed questionnaire, with good psychometric characteristics. The research was conducted in nursing homes in Serbia, and the respondents mentioned the lack of visibility of the elderly population and insufficient information as the biggest problems faced by the elderly in the health and social care system. Finally, prospective systemic risk analysis was conducted in the processes of drug prescribing, dispensing and administering to nursing home users, in order to identify potential errors, quantify and rank the priorities of associated risks, and define corrective measures to reduce risks to patient safety. Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) showed that the proposed corrective measures achieved a significant improvement in system security in 36 out of 38 cases of potential system failure, with a reduction in the total value of RPN (Risk Priority Number) by 45.08%. more...

- Abstract
Introduction An online interactive repository of available medication adherence technologies may facilitate their selection and adoption by different stakeholders. Developing a repository is among the main objectives of the European Network to Advance Best practices and technoLogy on medication adherencE (ENABLE) COST Action (CA19132). However, meeting the needs of diverse stakeholders requires careful consideration of the repository structure. Methods and analysis A real-time online Delphi study by stakeholders from 39 countries with research, practice, policy, patient representation and technology development backgrounds will be conducted. Eleven ENABLE members from 9 European countries formed an interdisciplinary steering committee to develop the repository structure, prepare study protocol and perform it. Definitions of medication adherence technologies and their attributes were developed iteratively through literature review, discussions within the steering committee and ENABLE Action members, following ontology development recommendations. Three domains (product and provider information (D1), medication adherence descriptors (D2) and evaluation and implementation (D3)) branching in 13 attribute groups are proposed: product and provider information, target use scenarios, target health conditions, medication regimen, medication adherence management components, monitoring/measurement methods and targets, intervention modes of delivery, target behaviour determinants, behaviour change techniques, intervention providers, intervention settings, quality indicators and implementation indicators. Stakeholders will evaluate the proposed definition and attributes’ relevance, clarity and completeness and have multiple opportunities to reconsider their evaluations based on aggregated feedback in real-time. Data collection will stop when the predetermined response rate will be achieved. We will quantify agreement and perform analyses of process indicators on the whole sample more...

Background/Aim. Overweight and obesity may lead to a large number of health problems. Prevention and adequately timed treatment can lead to successful body mass regulation. The aim of the study was to analyze body mass index (BMI) of the examinees, usage of dietary supplement for weight loss (DSWL) by gender and particular products, types of information source and types of information about DSWL which provide doctors and pharmacists. Methods. The survey was conducted in the region of the town of Niš. The survey was carried out among a random sample of 505 participants, 243 men and 262 women, older than 15 years. The tool used was a questionnaire. Results. There is a positive association between aging and BMI. DSWL are used by 20.39% of the examinees. The most of the examinees that use DSWL were overweight and used it for esthetic reasons. Before the use of DSWL, women usually practice diets and men practice fluid consumption. Television is the most important source of information about DSWL. Health care professionals mostly provide information about DSWL consumption (64.08%), and only a third of them provide all the information (usage, eating regime, fluid consumption, and physical activity). Conclusion. The prevalence of obesity emphasizes the need for concentrated efforts to prevent obesity in the early age. The only way to reduce the risk of DSWLs misuse is providing all of the necessary information by the health care professionals. As pharmacists are in the direct contact with patients they have the most important role in rational and effective use of DSWL. more...

- Abstract
Introduction: At the Faculty of Pharmacy University of Belgrade, the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (0SCE) was introduced to assess clinical competences and communication skills of pharmacy students following their 6-weeks practice in public pharmacies during the 10th semester. Methods: The OSCE consisted of one patient case that was presented to the student firstly in a short written form. The patient case had at least one drug-related problem that the student was expected to identify and solve. A teaching assistant played the role of the patient and a teacher assessed the communication skills and clinical competences during the student's interview with the „patient" using a structured form (checklist). The student had limited time (7 minutes) to identify and solve the drug-related problem(s) and to councel the patient. The use of a Drug register and Pharmacotherapy guide were allowed. Results: One hundred fifty students completed the OSCE so far. The students could achieve O-40 points during the exam, according to their performance. The maximal point score was achieved if the student obtained all relevant information from the patient”, identified and solved the drug-related problem(s) and offered appropriate information. The minimal point score (0) was assigned if the student made an error which could harm the patient. The median result of the OSCE was 28 points (interquatile range 10), while 7 students (4.7%) scored 0-9 points, 12 (8.0%) scored 10-19 points, 68 (45.3%) scored 20-29 points, 58 (38.79%) scored 30-39 points and 5 students (3.3%) scored 40 points. Conclusions: The introduction of the OSCE was successful and enabled the teaching staff to obtain a more accurate knowledge of the students’ clinical competences and communication skills as well as to identify gaps in the competences in skills which need to be improved. - Abstract
The global face of community pharmacy is changing. The trend in decreasing number of healthcare professionals, and partial overlapping of their roles, lead to development of new community pharmacy services that integrate multidisciplinary collaboration. The community pharmacy services development is recognised in several of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) development goals including goals for pharmacists’ education. According to the newest FIP report, community pharmacy services globally, apart from dispensing and supply of medicines, are categorised as: 1) services involving clinical decision-making for treatment initiation, continuation, or modification; 2) providing medicines and pharmaceutical care beyond the pharmacy premises; 3) disease screening; and 4) providing first aid/immediate care (1). Implementation of community pharmacy services should be based on scientific principles to achieve their effectiveness and sustainability. Implementation science aims to provide methods and strategies for effective service implementation. Based on many implementation researches several theories/frameworks were created to facilitate analysis of elements of each implementation step: factors/determinants which influence implementation, strategies and tools for evaluation (2). Further improvement and development of new community pharmacy services should be guided by global trends in development of community pharmacy services and strategies for their implementation. A few decades ago, knowledge acquired during education and career progress lasted for many years. However, due to turbulent technological, economic, political, and other changes, acquired knowledge becomes obsolete much earlier and requires continual upgrade and development, mainly through lifelong learning. Not only are employees within different organizations aware of this situation and invest in their career development to stay competitive, but current students also follow the same path, securing their knowledge and skills development throughout the education process. Generally, skills are distinguished as hard and soft ones. Hard skills enable entrance to the labor market, usually including technical skills acquired during education, training or gaining work experience. On the other hand, soft skills are perceived as a potential for an employee’s further development. The research was conducted at the University of Split, Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism in 2020.-2021. and was focused on final year (undergraduate and graduate) students and former (graduated) students. The main goal of this research was to investigate potential differences among current students, considering undergraduate and graduate students, but also among current and former (graduated) students. These differences focused on the importance of attained skills and training for their employment and further career development, perceived by each group of respondents, as well as the current level of possession of hard and soft skills in general. more...

- Abstract
Antibiotics are the gold standard in treating and preventing recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs), but their widespread, irrational use leads to the development of antimicrobial resistance (1,2). The aim of this study was to analyze the use of antibiotics in patients with UTIs symptoms. An online survey for patients was disseminated by researchers and community pharmacists during the winter 2020/21. The study was approved by the Ethical Committee of the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Pharmacy. The study included 736 respondents, 31.5 years of age in average, and most of them were women (80.8%). Approximately 40% of patients reported that they experienced symptoms of UTIs in previous years, and 49.3% of patients did not seek a counsel of health care professionals, and rather had used therapy following the advice of friends, family members or by their opinion. A smaller number of patients used antibiotics in therapy (n=178, 24.2%) prescribed by the doctor (79.2% of patients), and in some cases without prior consultation with a doctor (20.8% of patients). Antibiotics successfully treated 70% of UTIs. According to data collected from 133 patients, 17 different antibiotics were used in UTI treatment. The most used antibiotics were: ciprofloxacin (23.3%), cephalexin (17.3%) and fosfomycin (14.3%). Antibiotics used for UTIs treatment didn’t comply with the European Association of Urology guidelines. Considering that the use of medicines could be initiated by patients and therefore be unreported, the use of medicines for UTIs should be analysed both from clinical patients’ data records and individual patients’ reports. Antibiotici predstavljaju zlatni standard u lečenju i prevenciji rekurentnih infekcija urinarnog trakta (IUT), ali njihova učestala, neracionalna upotreba dovodi do razvoja antimikrobne rezistencije (1,2). The use of medicinal plants has significant impact on human health (1,2). Approximately 13.000 medicinal plants are used worldwide (1), and in developing countries 65-80% of the population uses them for medicinal purposes (2). The aim of the study was to examine the awareness of patients in the city of Belgrade about herbal products. Quantitative, non-experimental research was conducted using a purpose-built questionnaire in public pharmacies during February 2020. The survey involved 954 respondents, mostly women (66.5%); 39.1% of respondents aged 20-40 years. Most of the respondents were employed (65.2%), with secondary school education (45.2%). The vast majority (97.3%) used medicinal plants/herbal products, mostly occasionally, as needed (38.4%). The main motive for their use was health improvement (75.2%), while 16.2% used them to treat diseases. The primary sources of information on medicinal plants/herbal products are pharmacists (45.1%) and the media (24.2%). About a third of the respondents (37.3%) stated that they knew the difference between herbal medicinal products and dietary supplements. 52.9% of respondents claimed that herbal medicinal products are effective, but less than synthetic drugs, while 61.5% claimed that they are safe, but with certain side effects. A third of respondents (32.9%) had difficulty understanding instructions for use and they needed additional explanations. Majority (70.6%) received advice from a pharmacist when buying a herbal product. Pharmacists are health professionals who have adequate knowledge of medicinal plants/herbal products and have a key role in advising patients in order to implement the proper use of herbal medicinal and other herbal products. Medication non-adherence is recognized as a global problem associated with financial burden for patients and healthcare funds. At the European level, different Medication Adherence Technologies (MATech) are in use. The European Network to Advance Best practices and technoLogy on medication adherencE (ENABLE, COST Action 19132) was launched to: 1) identify current practices for Medication Adherence (MA) support by healthcare professionals; 2) create a structure for the repository of existing MATech that could be used by different stakeholders; and to 3) prepare guidance for sustainable implementation of MATech across European healthcare settings. ENABLE gathered different healthcare professionals and academics from 39 countries, to achieve the set of goals during a four-year period. Several cross-European studies were conducted employing stakeholder consultation (Delphi) and survey methods, including analysis of current practices for assessing and supporting MA in routine care, as well as barriers and facilitators to managing MA, work on medication management during COVID pandemic, reimbursement pathways of adherence interventions and protocols to identify the best practices and technologies. The MATech repository was designed by ENABLE members, and consultation of different stakeholders is currently in progress. The repository structure includes information about the MATech product and provider, goals and content related to managing MA, and information about the scientific evaluation and implementation. A cross-European expert survey identified a limited number of MA enhancing interventions that are currently subject to reimbursement. ENABLE identified the need for collaboration, infrastructure, and reimbursement to enhance the uptake of MATech in daily practice. - Abstract
Emotional intelligence (EI) represents a set of skills that may help in the appraisal, expression, and effective regulation of our own emotions and the emotions of others (1). Pharmacists’ ability to communicate positively and create bonds with patients may have an impact on patients’ health outcomes during the provision of pharmaceutical care (2). Despite evidence that supports the hypothesis that developing EI in healthcare professionals (HCPs) may increase their capacity to improve patients’ health-related outcomes, little is known about it in pharmacy practice. Our study aimed to critically appraise available data on the potential impact of EI on pharmacy practice. The search of papers in English published between 2000 and 2021 was performed in the PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase databases, by defined inclusion criteria. Only four papers were selected for further analysis. In the study on the pharmacy leadership programs, it was found that they may support the enhancement of EI levels. Another study suggested that hospital pharmacists’ EI may influence the reversal of the negative correlation between autistic-like traits and empathy. A positive correlation between EI and entrepreneurial orientation was found in a study that involved practicing community pharmacists. One of the studies emphasized pharmacists’ superiority among various HCPs in the social skills, self-motivation, and self-awareness EI sub-domains. Further research is required to provide evidence on the potential impact of EI and EI development programs on the pharmacy practice, and patients’ health-related outcomes. Such studies in Serbia would add strong value to the evolution of pharmaceutical care. Emocionalna inteligencija (EI) predstavlja skup veština koje mogu pomoć i u proceni, izražavanju i efikasnoj regulaciji sopstvenih emocija i emocija drugih (1). Beograd more...

- Abstract
Telepharmacy impacts pharmacists’ involvement in healthcare provision and health care outcomes (1). This service was implemented in Slovenia since September 2020 (2), opposite to Serbia where this service is not yet implemented. The objective of this study was to compare views of community pharmacists from Serbia and Slovenia in regards to their understanding of the concept of telepharmacy, perceived risks and facilitators, as well as views on overall capacity to implement such services. Semi-structured interviews with community pharmacists were conducted in Slovenia and Serbia from October 2020 to March 2021. Interviews were transcribed ad verbatim, coded, thematically analysed and results were compared for each major emerged theme. In total, 33 community pharmacists accepted to participate (10 from Slovenia and 23 from Serbia). Pharmacists from both countries expressed great interest, motivation and understanding of the concept of telepharmacy. Participants agreed that the services should be charged and remunerated mostly by health insurance funds, and complement the provision of pharmaceutical care in person. They both shared doubts regarding adequacy of pharmacists’ involvement in provision of healthcare, recognising telepharmacy as a tool to enhance it. Participants from Slovenia expressed concerns regarding standardisation, regulations and personal data protection surrounding telepharmacy. On the other hand, participants from Serbia believed that implementing telepharmacy is not yet possible due to lacking regulatory, financial and organisational infrastructure. Slovenian telepharmacy service model may present a good example for profound understanding of facilitators, risks and barriers related to development and implementation of a new pharmacy service in Serbia. - Abstract
Patient factor such as older age is one of the key factors that influence medication adherence. The number of people over 65 years of age is increasing in Serbia and thus the number of patients with chronic conditions which leads to increased number of medication used. The study about the medication use in Serbian patients over 65 years was a part of the European Union’s Horizon 2020 EuroAgeism project. The questionnaire used for this study was designed by the main research institution Charles University, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Kralove. The study included 450 patients over 65 years. Patients were recruited by pharmacists and data were collected in community pharmacies in three cities located in geographically different regions in Serbia (150 patients from each city). The self-reported medication adherence was estimated as a percentage value, from 0% as non-adherent to 100% as total adherent patient. Most of the patients were female (59.1%) and was old in average 73.0 years (SD=6.9, Range: 65-93). The average number of prescribed medications was 5.0 (SD=2.7, Range:1-14, Med=5) and the most prevalent was cardiovascular disease (89.1%). The average value of self-reported medication adherence was 92.4% (SD=13.4). The most common reasons for non–adherence were forgetfulness (55.8%), fear of side effects/addiction because of taking too many medications (11.0%), high price (8.7%), and complexity of medication regimen (8.7%). Correlation between number of drugs and adherence value was positive, but not statistically significant (ρ=0.06, p>0.05). This study has confirmed that older patients tend to take multiple medications in a day. Even though our expectation was that more drugs would affect medication adherence, the correlation was not statistically significant. Since forgetfulness is the most common cause of non-adherence, community pharmacists should remind patients more about the proper medication use. more...

In this paper, it is shown that internally oriented accounting in close connection with financial accounting is a prerequisite for successful management and decision-making process. Cost accounting and management accounting are not defined by law and are intended for internal users, therefore they place the responsibility for accounting for the choice of the manner and level of their implementation. Cost accounting in the budget sector of the Republic of Croatia is still not sufficiently developed to enable efficient management of public funds and cost control. On the other hand, insufficient application of management accounting in the budget sector prevents quality decision-making. more...
