The 8th Shuttle/Mir Mission (S/MM-08) installed with RRMD-3 (Real time Radiation Monitoring Device-3) type which is similar to a case of the 6th Shuttle/Mir Mission (S/MM-06) aims again to conduct real time measurement of dose equivalent over the almost whole LET (Linear Energy Transfer) range including the smallest LET. RRMD performs downlink of all information of the data. For events exceeding the downlink rate, RRMD performs downlink only the number of the events as error counts, and evaluates LET distribution and dose equivalent obtained from the data with all information which contained sufficient statistics by considering the error count to all information data. In S/MM-08, in order to verify this evaluation method, a simultaneous operation of RRMD and onboard data recorder were attempted in the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) region with high error counting rate. However, a simultaneous operation of real time downlink and recording by the data recorder could not be performed because of technical limitation of the produced data recording system. Therefore, the real time measurement based on the data recorder in the SAA region could not be evaluated. Thus, only the real time measurement of galactic cosmic ray was carried out. The measured results of galactic cosmic ray in 75.18 hours are as follows: average absorbed dose rate of 0.202 mGy/day, average dose equivalent rate of 0.587 mSv/day, and effective quality factor of 2.90. Read-out from simultaneously mounted TLD (Thermoluminescence Dosimeter) which was recovered on the ground was incomplete because of failed read-out equipment. Therefore, the effective data were not obtained. Measurement with CR-39 (plastic track detector) gave LET distribution similar to the previous results, which was compared with the results based on RRMD-3., 今回、シャトル・ミールミッション8号機(S/MM-08)は、6号機(S/MM-06)の場合と同様に、RRMD(実時間放射線モニタ装置)3型を搭載し、最小LET(線エネルギー付与)を含むほぼ全LET領域に渡る線量当量を再度実時間計測することを目的とした。RRMDではデータの全情報をダウンリンクしているが、このダウンリンクレートを越えるイベントに対してはエラーカウントとしてその個数のみをダウンリンクし、十分な統計量の全情報をもつデータから得られたLET分布、線量当量を、全情報をもつデータとエラーカウントの比率を考慮し評価する方法を用いている。今回の8号機では、この方式の確認のために、計数率の大きなSouth Atlantic Anomaly(SAA)領域において、同時にデータレコーダを搭載、働かせることが試みられた。しかしながら、製作されたデータ記録のシステムの技術的制約からリアルタイムダウンリンクとデータレコーダによる記録とが同時に行うことが出来ないため、結果として、SAA領域でのデータレコーダによる実時間計測の評価は出来なかった。すなわち、銀河宇宙線に対する実時間計測のみが行われた。75.18時間の間の測定の結果の銀河宇宙線による平均吸収線量率は0.202mGy/dayであり、平均線量当量率は0.587mSv/dayであり、実効線質係数は2.90であった。また、同時に搭載されたTLD(熱ルミネセンス線量計)は地上帰還後、読み出し装置のミスで、中途半端な読み出ししか行えず、有効なデータとはならなかった。CR-39(プラスチック検出器)は従来通りのLET分布が得られ、RRMD-3の測定結果と比較がされた。
