Introduction: Febrile neutropenia (FN) is an oncologic emergency requiring immediate empiric antibiotic therapy. Although carboplatin plus etoposide combination chemotherapy is associated with a relatively high frequency of FN, the risk factors are unclear. Hence, this retrospective study aimed to identify predictive markers of carboplatin/etoposide-induced FN. Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort analysis of patients with previously untreated small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) who received combination chemotherapy with carboplatin (area under the concentration curve: 5 mg/mL·min, day 1) and etoposide (80 or 100 mg/m2, days 1–3) between July 2007 and June 2022. FN was assessed during the 21 days after initiation of carboplatin and etoposide therapy according to the Japanese Society of Medical Oncology's definition. Fisher's exact test for categorical variables and Mann-Whitney U test for continuous variables were used to compare the two groups. Statistical significance was set at p values <0.05. Explanatory variables with p values <0.05 in the univariate analysis were included in the multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results: Among the 176 eligible patients, the incidence of FN during the first cycle of chemotherapy was 25.0% (44/176). Multivariate analysis revealed that co-administration of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) or potassium-competitive acid blockers (PCABs) and body mass index (BMI) were significantly associated with FN (p = 0.0035 and 0.0011, respectively). Patients with both co-administration of PPIs or PCABs and a BMI ≤22.509 kg/m2 presented with significantly higher frequencies of FN compared with the other patients (13/24 [54.2%] vs. 31/152 [20.4%] patients; odds ratio: 4.56, 95% confidence interval: 1.70–12.48; p = 0.00147). Conclusion: Patients who received carboplatin plus etoposide for SCLC with co-administration of PPIs or PCABs and a BMI ≤22.509 kg/m2 more frequently present with FN than those without the two factors. High-density nitrogen plasma was produced using a high-power pulsed power modulator to sputter titanium targets for the preparation of titanium nitride film. The high-power pulsed sputtering discharge unit consisted of two targets facing each other with the same electrical potential. The titanium target plates were used as target materials with dimensions of 60 mm length, 20 mm height, and 5 mm thickness. The gap length was set to be 10 mm. The magnetic field was created with a permanent magnet array behind the targets. The magnetic field strength at the gap between the target plates was 70 mT. The electrons were trapped by the magnetic and electric fields to enhance the ionization in the gap. The nitrogen and argon gases were injected into the chamber with 4 Pa gas pressure. The applied voltage to the target plates had an amplitude from −600 V to −1000 V with 600 μs in pulse width. The target current was approximately 10 A with the consumed power of 13 kW. The discharge sustaining voltage was almost constant and independent of the applied voltage, in the same manner as the conventional normal glow discharge. The ion density and electron temperature at the surface of the ionization region were obtained as 1.7 × 1019 m−3 and 3.4 eV, respectively, by the double probe measurements. The vertical distribution of ion density and electron temperature ranged from 1.1 × 1017 m−3 (at 6 cm from the target edge) to 1.7 × 1019 m−3 and from 2.4 eV (at 6 cm from the target edge) to 3.4 eV, respectively. From the emission spectra, the intensities of titanium atoms (Ti I), titanium ions (Ti II), and nitrogen ions (N2+) increased with increasing input power. Provincial clans and dynasties have long been crucial in Thai electoral politics. Their influence was felt since before the 1969 poll. Post-1988 and post-1992 political space gave clans room to expand in power. But their sway has been interrupted by several factors, including military coups, changing constitutions, and national transformations. Thailand's March 2019 general election, December 2020 provincial administrative organization elections, and March 2021 subdistrict administrative organization elections demonstrated the persistence of provincial clan influence owing partly to the 2019 end of military dictatorship but also to the needs by national parties to partner with provincial political families to achieve success and finally because local clans saw an opportunity to revitalize their power. In 2022 Thailand, provincial clans and dynasties appear to be alive and well. This study examines the historical evolution of provincial dynasties involved in Thai electoral politics in four different provinces. The study analyzes the reasons why only some provinces have experienced clan (familial) domination, strategies for and obstacles to dynastic family control over provincial politics, and the future of dynastic provincial families in Thailand's democratic future. The effects of an AC electric field on ice nucleation temperature and nucleation rate were investigated by freezing distilled water while exposing it to varied AC electric field strengths and frequencies. To eliminate the influence of ion injections and electric field concentrations at a metal electrode surface on ice nucleation, distilled water filled in resin cuvettes are used as samples. The samples are exposed to AC electric field induced by parallel plate electrodes placed outside of the cuvettes. The cuvettes and parallel plate electrodes placed in a freezer with an inside temperature fixed at −15°C. The electric field strength in the sample is 2 or 7.5 kV/m and frequency varies from 50 Hz to 10 kHz. The ice nucleation temperature and the nucleation rate of distilled water increase with increasing the electric field strength and the frequency. © 2023 Institute of Electrical Engineer of Japan and Wiley Periodicals LLC.
