The objective of this article is to investigate the viewpoints of both undergraduate and graduate students of English regarding online education in the aftermath of the Corona virus pandemic, which commenced in March 2020 and resulted in immediate, hit-or-miss changes within the higher education sector. To realize this aim, the study examines the perspectives of graduate and undergraduate students in the English Department at The Hashemite University in the fields of literary, cultural, and critical studies. Consequently, fifty graduate students were asked to write a well-thought essay in which they express their opinion about their experience in online education. On the other hand, eighty-four undergraduate students had to respond to a questionnaire designed to express their opinion within a scale of different responses. The results for both groups show that there is no significant difference between their attitudes. In general, there is a propensity to endorse a novel educational approach that integrates the traditional on-campus education with the most recent online off-campus education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The female protagonists in Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter (1850) and Fadia Faqir's My Name Is Salma (2007) face similar themes and explore the effects of adultery on women. Despite their different temporal, geographical, and cultural contexts, the novels fight oppression and marginalization. The authors carefully and delicately place the stories in a framework of crimes, marginalization, and dissent. The researchers use feminist critical analysis of the two texts to build an innovative argument that highlights the texts' many dissents. Hester Prynne's and Salma Ibrahim El-Musa's internal and external battles about giving up their lives, identities, and daughters disrupt cultural and religious standards. Hester commits adultery, refuses to reveal her daughter's biological father, and is, therefore, punished. This article examines the absurdity of wars and grounds their intersecting contours of enormous death (physical and psychological), destruction, and trauma notwithstanding their location, grounds, pretext, or repercussions. It underlines the scathing critiques of their constituencies in Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five (1969) and Ahmed Saadawi's Frankenstein in Baghdad (2013, trans. 2018), two novels articulating a striking disdain for the ethics and myths of the so-called "just wars." The researchers, sharing the novelists' moral qualms about wars, bring these two novels together in a potent critique uncovering the cruelties of wars, which have led to the dislodgement and demise of millions of people all over the world, not to mention the psychological insecurities and anxieties instigated by war. To illustrate, the horrible car bomb explosions besetting Baghdad in the aftermath of the 2003-American invasion of Iraq are equated with the Allies' firebombing and leveling of Dresden in Eastern Germany. Hence, Dresden and Baghdad lapse into waves of horror and massacres committed in the name of justice, and Vonnegut and Saadawi, whose awfully poignant firsthand war experiences enticed them to foreground the tragedies of war, interweave nonlinear antiwar narratives reminiscent of the mismatched body of Whatsitsname in Frankenstein in Baghdad and Billy Pilgrim's disheveled appearance and lack of training as a soldier in Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five. This study analyzes the centrality of peace and place in Wendell Berry's environmental poetry. It harbors on their intersection in order to construct a feasible argument about Berry's vision of sustainability as constituted by peace and place. It further links the theoretical premises of ecocomposition to practice through critically analyzing Wendell Berry's selected peace poems: "The Peace of Wild Things," "The Want of Peace," "Window Poems," and "A Standing Ground." Adopting an environmentally holistic approach, this article presses for a unitary act of shared responsibility in order to protect and preserve our ecosystems. It thematically investigates the outcomes that environmental sustainability would have on the human identity. Importantly, the poet in these poems exhibits an alarmingly detrimental rift in his relationship to the human society due to his lack of any bioregional belonging there. However, his awareness of his ecological identity--that is much strengthened while being in the natural world--sustains peace and equilibrium into his life. Berry's poetic diagnosis of such ecologically critical issues actually highlights the indispensable role of ecocompositionists and locates the dynamics of peace and place as environmental tropes necessary for sustaining nature. In "The Thousand-and-Second Tale of Scheherazade," Edgar Allan Poe presents his criticism of the Orientalist discourse of his time, explaining ultimately the conditions that empowered and sustained this discourse for a long time. This authorial standpoint is traced and reconstructed in the process of three stages. First, Poe introduces an Orientalist narrator who constructs a typical Orientalized text by creating a sequel to the frame story of the "Arabian Nights." Second, the narrator's text is deconstructed in a way that renders Poe clearly dissociated from the multiple narrators within his story and attracts attention to his counter-Orientalist attitude. Third, the complex structure of the tale, composed of different narratives within a frame story, and the gaps and contradictions within these narrative levels reflect necessarily how the Orientalist discourse of Poe's time is based upon a process of simulations that makes the whole system of Orientalism devoid of any truth.
