6. Distribution network reconfiguration for energy loss reduction

Abstract

A new method for energy loss reduction for distribution networks is presented. It is based on known techniques and algorithms for radial network analysis - oriented element ordering, power summation method for power flow, statistical representation of load variations, and a recently developed energy summation method for computation of energy losses. These methods, combined with the heuristic rules developed to lead the iterative process, make the energy loss minimization method effective, robust and fast. It presents an alternative to the power minimization methods for operation and planning purposes. 7. Energy summation method for energy loss computation in radial distribution networks

Abstract

A method for energy loss calculation in radial distribution networks is presented. It is based on the statistical representation of the influence of different load curves in the network upon element power flows and on the oriented ordering of the network elements. Also, the paper proposes the use of different, but constant, voltages at each node, instead of nominal voltage at all nodes. The procedure is very simple, and it involves four steps: element ordering, calculation of second moments, power flow calculation with average loads at nodes, and energy loss calculation in network elements. The presented results illustrate that the algorithm has advantages over methods that use nominal voltage at each node for accuracy, and advantages over methods that calculate accurate energy losses for speed. 8. Voltage correction power flow

Abstract

A method for power flow solution of weakly meshed distribution and transmission networks is presented. It is based on oriented ordering of network elements. That allows an efficient construction of the loop impedance matrix and rational organization of the processes such as: power summation (backward sweep), current summation (backward sweep) and node voltage calculation (forward sweep). The first step of the algorithm is calculation of node voltages on the radial part of the network. The second step is calculation of the breakpoint currents. Then, the procedure continues with the first step, which is preceded by voltage correction. It is illustrated that using voltage correction approach, the iterative process of weakly meshed network voltage calculation is faster and more reliable.

Abstract

Во овој труд, ќе биде прикажан процесот на модернизација на контролните системи на термоблоковите во ТЕ Битола, филозофијата на управувањето, процесот на тестирање и добиените резултати во реални услови за обезбедување на соодветна секундарна резерва за македонскиот ЕЕС преку ставање на термоблоковите во т.н. фунцкионален AGC (Automatic Generation Control) моде и обезбедување можности за нивно далечинско управување од НДЦ во Скопје. Добиените резултати потврдуваат дека после модернизацијата термоблоковите во целост ги задоволуваат препораките на UCTE и ЕNТSO-E за нивно вклучување во системот на секундарна регулација на македонскиот ЕЕС.

17. State of the art and tendency for increased power efficiency of electric machines and drives

Abstract

The paper considers the latest trends in design of electric machines and drives from the aspects of power efficiency and the increasing cost of electric energy. The most important issue thereby is the amount by which the power losses can be reduced, i.e. the efficiency of the motor can be increased, when new materials and advanced knowledge, construction and technology are utilized. The special interest is paid to industrial induction motors since they consume most of the generated electric energy and are widely used in electric drives with or without speed control. Two examples of induction motors have been considered. The ratings of the first motor are 22 kW, 400 V, which is a typical low power motor for wide applications. The ratings of the second motor are 2500 kW, 6000 V, which is a high power motor manufactured and utilized piecemeal. The possibility of reducing the power losses in the motor by means of design, i.e. by increasing the volume of its active parts, and the influence of the increased volume on the price of the motor and the reduction of pollution of the environment have been analyzed in detail.

Abstract

In the paper an overview of achievements known in the world in the area of construction and application of various electric generator systems for wind turbines is given. Using the available literature and other technical data a comparison is made between the following commonly used types of generator: induction, synchronous with classical excitation, synchronous permanent-magnet and doubly-fed induction generator. A basic concept and some selected details from the design and construction of the first wind generator developed and built in Croatia are given. The generator is three-phase, low speed, 60 poles, designated for direct-drive, power rating 1000 kVA. At rotating speeds between 10 rpm and 30 rpm, the generator voltage and frequency change in the range of 250-690 V and 5-14, 5 Hz. Based on experience acquired by carrying out the first project involving construction of the wind turbine and generator system, the other types of generator are also considered and the optimal solutions are sought for future constructions. Some theoretical and practical significance is given to the possibility and justification for construction of a direct-drive permanent magnet generator, which is estimated to be the most promising technical solution.
