Background: Although not definitively proven, there is commonly accepted to be a latitudinal gradient in the distribution of multiple sclerosis (MS), which is more frequent in temperate zones. The European Mediterranean countries are situated in a zone of median frequency, although ever increasing figures have been noted in the last decades.Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the current prevalence rate of MS in the province of Malaga, Southern Spain.Methods: The capture–recapture method (CRM) uses independent sources of data and permits the number of non-registered cases of a given disease to be estimated, and by doing so, to avoid ascertainment bias.Results: Use of this method showed the estimated prevalence rate of MS in the province of Malaga, Southern Spain, to be 125/105 (95% confidence interval: 102/105–169/105), higher than the figures published previously.Conclusions: Although we recognize that these data need to be confirmed in further studies and in other areas of the country using a similar method, we believe this study is the first to find such high figure of prevalence, being very similar to the figures reported in recent years in other southern European countries. The effect of providing differential information regarding achievement criteria while making informal questions related to everyday life and whose formulation does not require a specialized training was evaluated. Achievement criteria defined as the specification of the requirements an individual must meet or to which he should adjust .Previous studies have indicated the need to evaluate the conditions that allow the development of question-asking skills in different contexts. One of the necessary elements of this task may be the previous specification of the criteria a question must meet (specification of the achievement criteria). The experimental design involved the exposure to different achievement criteria. Participants were 60 students from high school, as well as college undergraduate and graduate students. Results indicated that the groups exposed to the more specific criteria developed a greater number of questions, and these were more relevant to the situation. Undergraduate and graduate students performed more effectively than the high-school ones. Findings are discussed in terms of the implications of being able to pose pertinent questions (in academic contexts)

In this study was examined the response of carbon steel to atmospheric corrosion after one-year exposure in Valle de Aburrá, a subregion located in northwestern Colombia. The study involved the assessment of material mass loss and corrosion rate, the characterization of atmospheric aggressiveness, and the analysis of the morphology and composition of corrosion products in five different sites. Climatological and meteorological factors were assessed by testing for chloride content, sulfur dioxide levels, and time of wetness (TOW). The analysis of corrosion products was conducted using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Raman spectroscopy. Based on corrosion rates, two sites exhibited a more aggressive environment, with a corrosivity category of C3, while the remaining sites were categorized as C2. The study confirmed the presence of lepidocrocite and goethite phases on the surface of carbon steel at all test sites. Ammoniacal thiosulfate has been used lately as an alternative lixiviant for leaching gold from sulfides ores which are not amenable for cyanidation. However, the oxidation of the sulfide minerals generates products that inhibit the dissolution of gold and can promote the degradation of the leaching solution. The complexity of the ammoniacal thiosulfate leaching system has prevented the unification and clarification of the mechanisms of oxidation of sulfide ores used for gold extraction. In this study, a method combining polarization curves, Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and in situ Raman spectroscopy was implemented to investigate the oxidation process of high-purity pyrite. Pyrite samples were dispersed in carbon paste electrode (CPE-Py). The polarization curves of CPE-Py exhibited an increase in current values for overpotentials greater than 0.1 V, indicating the initiation of mineral oxidation processes. Subsequently, a maximum current was observed initially, followed by subsequent decrease, indicating the occurrence of passivation processes on the electrode surface. Hydrodynamic polarization curves demonstrated that the overpotential at which the passivation process occurs is independent of mass transport, suggesting that the passivation products were formed through solid-state transformation. Impedance spectra revealed that at overpotentials below 0.1 V, a partially resolved capacitive semicircle was observed, which was associated with the resistance encountered when charge was transferred between the solution and the surface layer interface. This resistance decreased as the polarization overpotential increased, implying a decrease in charge transfer kinetics. At higher overpotentials (0.3 V-0.4 V), a second capacitive semicircle appeared, linked to the oxidation of one or several species present in the mineral. In situ Raman spectroscopy was utilized to identify the oxidation species of pyrite in ammonia-thiosulfate ((NH 4 ) 2 S 2 O 3 ) leaching solution at a pH = 10.2. The composition of the species varied depending on the applied anodic potential. At low anodic potentials (0.1 V), Fe(OH) 2 and thiosulfate (S 2 O 3 2- ) were formed, while at high anodic potentials (0.4 V), iron products such as Fe 3 O 4 and γ-FeOOH, as well as sulfide species including thiosulfate, tetrathionates and sulfates (S 2 O 3 2- , S 4 O 6 -2 and SO 4 2- ) were formed., Competing Interests: The authors declare that they have no known competing financial interests or personal relationships that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this paper., (© 2023 The Authors. This study investigates and compares plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) coatings produced on wrought Ti6Al4V alloy substrates with those resulting from electron beam powder bed fusion (PBF-EB). For a duration of 1000 s, a phosphate/silicate electrolyte with a current density of 50 A/cm 2 was employed to fabricate the coatings. Surface and polished cross-sections of the coated specimens underwent SEM and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses. The obtained coatings exhibit differences of up to approximately 18% in thickness and formation, as well as in their anatase phase. The anatase phase is present at a level of 54.09% in the substrates processed by PBF-EB and 38.54% in wrought substrates. After 1000 s of PEO, the coatings formed on the wrought substrates exhibited higher porosity and larger pores (>1 μm) compared to those produced on the PBF-EB specimens. The PBF-EB coatings had lower porosity because they contained fewer pores larger than 1 μm. Multiple techniques have been developed and implemented around the world to monitor structures and minimize the costs of repairing, maintaining, and losing ceramic building materials due to environmental factors. Understanding the different degradation phenomena that affect ceramic building materials and evaluating their condition can help reduce material losses caused by deterioration and the need for interventions. This study reviews the main forms of atmospheric degradation that affect ceramic materials and the commonly employed methods to evaluate their deterioration. The aim is to illustrate the different types of atmospheric deterioration that affect ceramic materials and to demonstrate the current monitoring methods and testing. In addition to a literature review, a bibliometric analysis was conducted to highlight the available tools to counter atmospheric deterioration. The analysis shows that CO2, sulfates, and temperature are the most important types of degradation for ceramic construction materials. It was also discovered that due to their porous nature, ceramic construction materials require careful control as contaminants and water can easily penetrate them. Atmospheric corrosion maps can be used to conduct a fast and graphical assessment of material deterioration in specific geographic environments. These maps are a key tool for selecting the most adequate materials in terms of corrosion resistance, maintenance, and cost-efficiency in outdoor constructions. Several studies have evaluated the effects of environmental factors and pollutants on building materials at local, regional, national, and international levels. However, not enough atmospheric corrosion maps are readily available, possibly due to the complexity of the variables that should be considered to construct them, which include weather, meteorological, and pollution-related factors that vary in space and time. This article presents a thorough literature review of atmospheric corrosion maps published between 1971 and 2021 mainly indexed in the Scopus database. It is complemented with a detailed review of books, journals, and projects by research centers that focuses on the methodologies, parameters, and tools that have been used to construct said maps. Background: The high incidence of eating disorders (EDs) means that its treatment is approached from various perspectives, among which we find emotion-focused therapy (EFT). Therefore, the main objective of this systematic review was to know the effectiveness of EFT for eating disorders., Method: A systematic review of PubMed, the Cochrane Library and the Psychology and Behavioural Sciences Collection was carried out without a time limit and in a population with an eating disorder diagnosis., Results: Eight studies fulfilled the eligibility criteria: (1) six studies treated the population with binge eating disorder (BED) five were group treatments, and four included the combined modality; (2) one with BED, bulimia nervosa (BN) and Eating Disorder No Otherwise Specified (EDNOS); and (3) one for a single case of anorexia nervosa (AN). The duration of treatments ranged from 12 weeks to 18 months, and all studies used the original EFT protocol. Specific variables of each type of eating disorder were studied, as well as comorbid symptoms., Conclusions: It seems that the results coincide in the existence of post-treatment improvements both in eating psychopathology and in affective symptoms, although with variable data during follow-up. Additive Manufacturing (AM) or rapid prototyping technologies are presented as one of the best options to produce customized prostheses and implants with high-level requirements in terms of complex geometries, mechanical properties, and short production times. The AM method that has been more investigated to obtain metallic implants for medical and biomedical use is Electron Beam Melting (EBM), which is based on the powder bed fusion technique. One of the most common metals employed to manufacture medical implants is titanium. Although discovered in 1790, titanium and its alloys only started to be used as engineering materials for biomedical prostheses after the 1950s. In the biomedical field, these materials have been mainly employed to facilitate bone adhesion and fixation, as well as for joint replacement surgeries, thanks to their good chemical, mechanical, and biocompatibility properties. Therefore, this study aims to collect relevant and up-to-date information from an exhaustive literature review on EBM and its applications in the medical and biomedical fields. Retrotransposons are a type of transposable element (TE) that have amplified to astonishing numbers in mammalian genomes, comprising more than a third of the human and mouse genomes. Long interspersed element class 1 (LINE-1 or L1) retrotransposons are abundant and currently active retroelements in the human and mouse genomes. Similarly, long terminal repeat (LTR)-containing retrotransposons are abundant in both genomes, although only active in mice. LTR- and LINE-1-retroelements use different mechanisms for retrotransposition, although both involve the reverse transcription of an intermediate retroelement-derived RNA. Retrotransposon activity continues to effect the germline and somatic genomes, generating interindividual variability over evolution and potentially influencing cancer and brain physiology, respectively. However, relatively little is known about the functional consequences of retrotransposition. Today, tissue regeneration is one of the greatest challenges in the field of medicine, since it represents hope after accidents or illnesses. Tissue engineering is the science based on improving or restoring tissues and organs. In this work, five formulations of chitosan/poly(vinyl alcohol)/graphene oxide (CS/PVA/GO) nanocomposites were studied for the development of biodegradable films with potential biomedical applications. The characterization of the films consisted of Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The antibacterial activity was evaluated in vitro against Gram-positive bacteria Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus and Gram-negative Salmonella spp. and Escherichia coli , by contact of the film above inoculum bacterial in Müeller⁻Hinton agar. On the other hand, in vivo tests in which the material implanted in the subcutaneous tissue of Wistar rats demonstrated that the formulation CS/PVA/GO (14.25:85:0.75) was the best antibacterial film with adequate degradation in vivo. All together, these results indicate the potential of the films using nanocomposites of CS/PVA/GO in tissue engineering and cell regeneration., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest.

Rationale: No neuroprotective or neurorestorative therapies have been approved for ischemic stroke. Bone marrow mononuclear cell intra-arterial transplantation improves recovery in experimental models of ischemic stroke., Aims: This trial aims to test safety and efficacy of intra-arterial injection of autologous bone marrow mononuclear cell in ischemic stroke patients., Design: Multicenter, prospective, phase II, randomized, controlled (non-treated group as control), assessor-blinded clinical trial. Seventy-six stroke patients will be enrolled. Patients fulfilling clinical and radiological criteria (e.g. age between 18 and 80 years, middle cerebral artery ischemic stroke with a National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score of 6-20 within one- to seven-days from stroke onset and no lacunar stroke) will be randomized to intervention or control group (1 : 1). Bone marrow harvest and intra-arterial injection of autologous bone marrow mononuclear cell will be done in the intervention group with two different doses (2 × 10(6) /kg or 5 × 10(6) /kg in 1 : 1 proportion). Patients will be stratified at randomization by National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score. Patients will be followed up for two-years., Study Outcomes: The primary outcome is the proportion of patients with modified Rankin Scale scores of 0-2 at 180 days. Secondary outcomes include National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale and Barthel scores at six-months, infarct volume, mortality, and seizures., Discussion: This is the first trial to explore efficacy of different doses of intra-arterial bone marrow mononuclear cell in moderate-to-severe acute ischemic stroke patients. The purpose of this study was to assess the bone speed of sound (SoS) through lifetime of a large Mexican population sample by determining the SoS from the radius and tibia using quantitative ultrasound (QUS). This is a cross-sectional evaluation of participants in the Mexican Health Workers Cohort Study. QUS measurements were performed using Sunlight Omnisense 8000P; Z- and T-scores were calculated for both sexes at the distal third of the radius and midshaft tibia, both on the nondominant side. A locally weighted regression smoothing scatterplot model was used to identify different phases of bone accretion and loss. A total of 9128 participants aged 1-75 yr were measured with QUS. Bone SoS accretion began 5 yr earlier in girls than boys (p<0.05). Maximal SoS or peak bone SoS was noted at 28 yr in the radius and at 22 yr in the tibia. Postmenopausal women (45-50 yr) showed significant SOS decrease at both sites (p<0.05) compared with men. Using the locally weighted regression smoothing scatterplot model, we found 5 different phases that constitute the biological development of bone over the life course, from ages 1-6, 7-12, 12-25, 25-50, and 50-75 yr (p<0.05). Our study shows the age- and sex-dependent changes and different phases of bone development expressed by SoS measurements of the radius and tibia. Purpose: A critical limiting factor of cell therapy is the short life of the stem cells. In this study, glucose containing alginate microspheres were developed and characterized to provide a sustained release system prolonging the viability of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) in a suspension for clinical application., Methods: The glucose microspheres were satisfactorily elaborated with alginate by emulsification/internal gelation method. Particle size was evaluated by light diffraction and optical microscopy. Shape and surface texture by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Zeta potential, infrared spectra and release studies were also conducted. Also, rheological properties and stability of hMSCs suspensions with microspheres were tested. The viability of hMSCs was determined by trypan blue dye exclusion staining., Results: Microspheres of 86.62 μm, spherical shaped and -32.54 mV zeta potential with excellent stability, good encapsulation efficiency and providing an exponential release of glucose were obtained. hMSCs had better survival rate when they were packed with glucose microspheres. Microspheres maintained the aseptic conditions of the cell suspension without rheological, morphological or immunophenotypic disturbances on hMSCs., Conclusions: Developed microspheres were able to enhance the functionality of hMSC suspension. This strategy could be broadly applied to various therapeutic approaches in which prolonged viability of cells is necessary.

This position paper has been written by a multidisciplinary group of experts appointed by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Its aim is to present the state of the art of knowledge about osteoporosis in Mexico. A review of the scientific papers in Mexico and information about diagnostics tools and treatment is discussed along with some research recommendations for the future.

Background: Many filamentous fungal genomes contain complex groups of multicopper oxidase (MCO) coding genes that makes them a good source for new laccases with potential biotechnological interest. A bioinformatics analysis of the Aspergillus niger ATCC 1015 genome resulted in the identification of thirteen MCO genes. Ten of them were cloned and homologously overexpressed., Results: A bioinformatic analysis of the A. niger ATCC 1015 genome revealed the presence of 13 MCO genes belonging to three different subfamilies on the basis of their phylogenetic relationships: ascomycete laccases, fungal pigment MCOs and fungal ferroxidases. According to in silico amino acid sequence analysis, the putative genes encoding for functional extracellular laccases (mcoA, mcoB, mcoC, mcoD, mcoE, mcoF, mcoG, mcoI, mcoJ and mcoM) were placed under the control of the glaA promoter and overexpressed in A. niger N593. Enzyme activity plate assays with several common laccase substrates showed that all genes are actually expressed and code for active MCOs. Interestingly, expressed enzymes show different substrate specificities. In addition, optimization of fungal pigment MCOs extracellular production was investigated. The performance of the widely used glucoamylase signal sequence (ssGlaA) in McoA secretion was studied. Results obtained suggest that ssGlaA do not yield higher levels of secreted McoA when compared to its native secretion signal. Also, McoB synthesis was investigated using different nitrogen sources in minimal medium liquid cultures. Higher yields of extracellular McoB were achieved with (NH4)2 tartrate., Conclusions: Aspergillus niger is a good source of new laccases. The different substrate specificity observed in plate assays makes them interesting to be purified and biochemically compared. The homologous signal sequence of McoA has been shown to be a good choice for its extracellular overexpression. From the nitrogen sources tested (NH4)2 tartrate has been found to be the most appropriate for McoB production in A. niger.

2-Dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE) (also known as deanol) has been used as an ingredient in skin care, and in cognitive function- and mood-enhancing products. It is marketed as a free base or salt, and in theory, the two forms should be equally effective and able to substitute for each other in pharmaceutical formulations. Detecting possible alterations in the active principle is a basic part of preformulation studies. Accordingly, this study compared DMAE and DMAE bitartrate to identify potential alterations or differences between the free base and the salt that might compromise the long-term stability of cosmetic preparations at different temperatures, and also compared the behavior of the base substance and derivative alone and in solution. Samples were analyzed with different physicochemical methods such as differential scanning calorimetry, ultraviolet and infrared spectroscopy, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.

1,3-Dipolar cycloaddition reaction of nitrone 7 and chemo-enzymatically obtained alkenediols 12 and 13 has been used in the synthesis of pentahydroxylated pyrrolizidines (8 and 10) and indolizidines (9 and 11). The pyrrolizidinic and indolizidinic skeletons were built after internal n-alkylation of the suitably functionalized pyrroloisoxazolidine intermediates obtained by the necessary protecting group manipulations. This method expands the scope of cycloaddition reactions in the synthesis of new and highly polyhydroxylated sugar-like alkaloids.

Objective: To compare costs of diagnosis and annual treatment of osteoporosis and hip fracture between the Instituto Nacional de Rehabilitación (INR) and the protocol used by the Seguro Popular de Salud (SPSS)., Methods: Direct costs gathered in a prospective study with real cases at the INR are presented, and then this data is re-analyzed with the methodology and protocol for the SPSS to estimate the costs of those cases if treated with the SPSS protocol., Results: Important differences were found in the cost of hip fracture: the SPSS estimates ($37,363.73 MXN) almost double the INR cost ($20,286.86 MXN ). This discrepancy was caused by the different types of surgeries the INR and SPSS protocols call for (the SPSS assumes that all hip fractures will necessitate a hip replacement) and the cost of subsequent hospitalization. A prospective study at the SPSS is needed to validate these results., Conclusions: Important differences were found between treatment of the same osteoporosis related problems at the INR and SPSS. We recommend revising the SPSS protocol to include less costly surgical treatments.

Sequential enolate alkylations of (S)-N(1)-methyl-5-methoxy-6-isopropyl-3,6-dihydropyrazin-2-one and (S)-N(1)-p-methoxybenzyl-5-methoxy-6-isopropyl-3,6-dihydropyrazin-2-one proceed with excellent levels of diastereoselectivity (>90% de) affording quaternary alpha-amino acids in high enantiomeric excess (>98% ee) after deprotection and hydrolysis.

To determine the gene expression of IFNAR1, IFNAR2 and MxA protein and the association with IFNbeta treatment response in MS patients. MS patients treated with IFNbeta had a significant decrease in IFNAR1 and IFNAR2 expression, and a significant increase in MxA compared to non-treated patients and healthy controls. Also, those patients who had a good response to treatment had a significant decrease in IFNAR1 and IFNAR2 expression compared to non-responders, non-treated patients and healthy controls. IFNbeta influences the expression of its receptors, and is greater in patients who respond to IFNbeta treatment. This down-regulation could be indicative of the response to IFNbeta.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is associated with genetic susceptibility and unknown environmental triggers, possible viral infections, but the specific etiological mechanism that subsequently develops into an inflammatory/autoimmune cascade of events is poorly understood. Recently, genetic variants of 2',5'- oligoadenylate synthetase 1 (OAS1) gene, a critical enzyme involved in innate antivirus response, have been associated with differential enzyme activity and type 1 diabetes in both case-control and family studies. We hypothesized that polymorphisms in the OAS1 gene could influence the susceptibility to MS. To test this hypothesis, we conducted a case-control study of 333 patients with MS and 424 healthy controls and genotyped two OAS1 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) by restriction fragment length polymorphism method: rs 10774671, A/G SNP altering the splicing site at the seventh exon, and rs 3741981, a nonsynonymous (Ser162Gly) A/G SNP in the third exon. Haplotype but not single-marker analysis revealed an association of the haplotype created by the G allele at rs 10774671 and the A allele at rs 3741981 with the susceptibility to MS (P value = 8.8 x 10(-5)). Subjects carrying this haplotype had an increased risk of MS comparing with those not carrying it (odds ratio = 4.7, 95% confidence interval 2.1-10.9). Our findings indicate that the OAS1 gene polymorphisms may confer susceptibility to MS or serve as markers of functional variants and suggest that OAS1 activity is involved in the etiology of the disease. Future studies in a larger sample and association analysis with functional variants will clarify the role of the OAS1 gene in the susceptibility to MS.

Objective: To study the relationship between human leucocyte antigen (HLA) genotype and clinical response to interferon-beta (IFN-beta)., Methods: We analysed the HLA class II genotypes of 96 multiple sclerosis (MS) patients treated with IFN-beta. The patients were classified as responders or non-responders according to clinical criteria: one or more relapses or a sustained increase after 1 year treatment compared with the year prior to IFN-beta therapy of > or = 0.5 points on the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS)., Results: There were 66 (69%) responders and 30 (31%) non-responders. Baseline clinical characteristics were similar. We found no association between HLA class II alleles and clinical response to IFN-beta., Conclusions: HLA genotype does not appear to influence the clinical response to IFN-beta in MS patients.

The highly diastereoselective samarium diiodide and D(2)O-promoted conjugate reduction of homochiral (E)- and (Z)-benzylidene and isobutylidene diketopiperazines (E)-5,7 and (Z)-6,8 has been demonstrated. This methodology allows the asymmetric synthesis of methyl (2S,3R)-dideuteriophenylalanine 27 in > or = 95% de and >98% ee, and (2S,3R)- or (2S,3S)-dideuterioleucine-(S)-phenylalanine dipeptides 37 and 38 in moderate de, 66% and 74% respectively. A mechanism is proposed to account for this process.

A highly diastereoselective conjugate reduction using SmI2 and D2O has been demonstrated on a homochiral benzylidene diketopiperazine template, giving methyl (2S,3R)-N-acetyl-2-amino-2,3-dideuterio-3-phenylpropionate in 93% de and 90% ee after deprotection, hydrolysis and N-acetylation.

Enterogenic meningitis is an infrequent cause of central nervous system infection. Among these causes the Currarino syndrome may be found presenting sacral agenesis, presacral mass and anorectal stenosis. This syndrome normally causes enterogenic meningitis in the early years of life. The case reported corresponds to a 24-year-old male presenting polymicrobial meningitis with fecal flora germs (anerobic enterococci, Bacteroides fragilis and Escherichia coli). These clinical findings led to radiologic lumbar study with the diagnosis of Currarino syndrome. The existence of neuroenteric fistulas justifies the development of fecal flora meningitis. The nosology of the syndrome as well as the therapeutic strategy are reviewed.

We report a new case of short-lasting, unilateral, neuralgiform headache attacks with conjunctival injection and tearing (SUNCT). This rare headache, described in 1978, shares clinical traits with trigeminal neuralgia and cluster headache and its diagnostic classification as a unilateral headache with autonomic involvement has been the subject of considerable debate. The etiology of SUNCT is unknown, although it is considered a highly difficult pain to treat. We discuss our patient's symptoms and response to treatment with carbamazepine.

We report two cases of encephalopathy with cortical blindness associated with reversible bioccipital lesions in transplanted patients (of the kidney and bone marrow) who were being treated with cyclosporin A. We briefly discuss the pathogenesis of symptoms and review the literature.

The association between frontal dementia and motor neurone disease has been known for years now although its existence as a nosologic entity in its own right is still subject to debate. Lack of strict histological criteria and inspecificity in complementary tests which might otherwise lend weight to such a diagnosis prevent our considering it as much more than a mere clinical syndrome. We present here the case of a 56 year old female patient who developed a type of dementia with frontal characteristics associated with motor neurone disease. We discuss the clinical picture and review the relevant literature.

Internal carotid artery dissection at the cervical level is a known cause of stroke in young patients. The usual clinical presentation is strong ipsilateral cephalea and oculosympathetic paresis or ischemic symptoms in the affected artery. Paresis of the lower cranial nerves due to local compression in the space behind the parotid is rarely found and may complicate the diagnosis by leading physicians to look for anomalies in the vertebro-basilar territory. We present a patient with internal carotid artery dissection at the cervical level diagnosed by angiography. Symptoms at presentation were hemicranial cephalea accompanied by Villaret's syndrome. We point out the importance of keeping this diagnostic possibility in mind when looking for the etiology of subacute paresis of the lower cranial nerves.
